oikawa tooru has a bad habit of breaking promises and running from his first love. or: the four times oikawa breaks his promises and the one time he keeps one
( a / n ) - oh my god this is my magnum opus... my baby.. its a little bit of angst and a little bit of fluff and a little slice of life. u go through ages 6 to 28 LMFAO. iwaizumi + you + oikawa were such a fun trio to write for and i hope u guys enjoy !!
gn! reader | 2k words | happy birthday OIKAWA
Oikawa Tooru has a guilty conscience and a bad habit of breaking his promises.Â
For every promise made and every promise broken, Tooru repents: 200 yen slid in a saisen-bako, a ninety degree bow, two wishes at a shrine. An offering to counter every promise he breaks, ample water to wash away his sins, and apologies written on wood.
( Iwaizumi has made the grand suggestion of: Maybe not breaking your promises? on several occasions, but Tooru canât help it. )Â
Heâs broken four promises and made eight wishes so far: four on blue Tanzaku and four atop Ema boards, followed with a prayer and an offering if the promise broken was particularly heinous or particularly his fault.Â
He breaks his first promise at six years oldâ one made with you and Iwaizumi when the three of you were four and freshly neighbors. It was Tooruâs birthday, and he had promised this:Â
I swear that I will take us all to the Ryokan before I turn six.
Itâs a small promise: one that neither you nor Hajime had expected him to follow through with. But Tooru believed it, and Tooru had tried. He takes every single chore and odd job in the Oikawa household, scraping together a two-year-old Ryokan trust fund with mismatched coins and crumpled bills. He saves his allowances and puts everything in a glass jar next to his bed, and dreams.
Two Julys pass. Oikawa blows out four candles and then five, the jar gets bigger, you start Elementary school, and you and Hajime forget about the Ryokan. And then, on the third July, when Tooru turns six, you and Iwaizumi find Tooru mumbling about a broken promiseâ courtesy of his failure to take the three of you on an all inclusive trip to that Snow Monkey Ryokan that Iwaizumi wanted to go to.Â
So he apologizes through prayers at a shrine and two wishes under a red Torii gate. Itâs a thirty five stair climb to the neighborhood shrine: Hajime and Tooru race up and you come last, but the view is gorgeous and Tooru feels considerably less guilty.
It is 100 yen for each wish on a colored paper strip. Hajime says theyâre called Tanzaku. Hajime drops one coin, Tooru drops four, you drop two. Seven thunks, four wishes.Â
Tooru gets the honor of tying your tanzaku on bamboo branches as the tallest of your trio, and with it, the honor of reading your wishes.
Iwaizumiâs wish is messy and scrawled on bright redâ Tooru tells him to Please work on your handwriting, but itâs legible and all well wishes for volleyball and you and Oikawa and cicadas.
Tooruâs got two wishesâ a cyan one and a turquoise one, but he only lets you and Hajime read the cyan one. His cyan one is a little neater than Iwaizumiâs and reads:
Sorry I couldnât take us to the Monkey Ryokan.Â
He hangs the red one on his tippy-toes. Cyan next. Hajime cheers a little when Tooru hangs turquoise next to your pink one, and then asks:Â
âWhaddya need two wishes for anyways?âÂ
He shrugs.Â
âGuilty conscience, maybe?â
Youâre thirteen when Tooru promises that he is going to ask you out in two years. Tooru is not allowed to date until heâs in high school, so he tells you under a blanket of stars that when the two of you are a little older, he will ask you out properly and maybe take you on a date.Â
He walks you to school every morning. Hajime comes too, but the pink skies before the sun rises are for you and Tooru. Moments before you make it to Iwaizumiâs block are moments that Tooru gives you his scarf, and then his gloves, and when the wind bites at your cheeks too hard his jacket is draped over your shoulders. On rainy days, Tooru holds the umbrella and laughs as your fingers brush and your cheeks flush. Some mornings he brings you toast: and tells you in hushed whispers to eat it before Iwa-Chan sees.Â
Oikawa and Iwaizumi walk you home after cram school and volleyball practice. Hajimeâs house is firstâ so Iwaizumi bows first, heads back inside first, waves goodnight first. When the door closes and the light turns on, the black sky and twinkling stars are for you and Tooru. He always says Good Night saccharine sweet with a smile like the sun that makes you feel like you really canât wait to turn fifteen.Â
Oikawa blows out fourteen candles. The three of you graduate in blue and walk home like usual. Summer passes, another July goes by, Oikawa blows out fifteen candles, and high school starts.
You learn several things in your first year at high school: you really like the student council, Hajime is actually pretty smart, and Tooru is afraid of commitment.Â
Tooru is popular: he is athletic and tall and the Volleyball Clubâs golden first year. He smiles at the girls in his class, he slings arms around their shoulders, he winks when he passes by the student council room, and he preens a little and shines a lot.
Oikawa is fifteen when he goes on his first date with a girl from another school: and when he tells you and Iwaizumi after he gets home, he plays dumb as Hajime gives him a look and takes you home, overhearing Iwaizumiâs apologies and your crestfallen voice as you say something about a promise.
Oikawaâs chest hurts that night so he walks to the shrine with 200 yen in his pocket and a sorry scrawled on two pieces of colored Tanzaku.Â
Oikawa turns sixteen and goes to the shrine again.Â
This time, itâs a broken promise with a girl in his class. She was popularâ she smelled like cotton candy and reminded Tooru of strawberries and daisies, so when she asked Tooru out, he had said Sure, and he had smiled like she was the sun.Â
But heâs a bad boyfriendâ a terrible boyfriendâ because heâs only there when itâs convenient and he ditches her for volleyball practice and maybe sometimes he catches himself thinking about a certain childhood friend when she holds his hand and buys him milk bread at lunch.Â
She was sweet and she was terribly pretty, but he doesnât feel anything when she kisses him or when she rests her head on his shoulder.
Iwaizumi asks him what heâs running from after practice one day. Tooru knows Iwaizumi is asking why he is running from you.Â
Tooru is a little scared of how you make him feel too much. Oikawa likes being in control and Oikawa likes stability, so when he realizes that his heart thumps erratically whenever youâre around and he finds himself all consumed with thoughts of you and a burning desire to please you; he rejects and refrains. And runs.
His girlfriend dumps him after a few months. Tooru says sorry, removes her phone contact, and faintly remembers a promise he made with her four weeks ago.Â
I swear Iâm not in love with someone else.Â

from: tooru (23:32) um please donât do that ever again
Oikawaâs fourth promise is one to himself and one to Seijoh.Â
We will make it to Nationals.Â
He doesnât leave his room for a week when he breaks it. Heâs inconsolable. He says heâs sick: heâs got a bad fever, itâs contagious, heâs bedridden, heâs fine. But the lights are never on in his room, his curtains are always drawn, and you know that Tooru devoted everything for a chance and a dream and a volleyball.Â
He comes to you first. Heâs standing in your doorway and there are bags under his eyes and he says, Hi, and then, Iâm fine. He tries for a smileâ and then you give him a look, and suddenly heâs in your arms and sobbing.Â
He cries for two hours. Tooru ugly criesâ his chest racks when he sobs and his arms are tight around you and digging into your back. Oikawa Tooru is not weak: but he is not a prodigy. Â
He falls asleep in your bed with his head in your lap and your hands in his hair, but his eyebrows are furrowed and heâs shifting a lot and heâs probably having a nightmare. You call Hajime before gently shaking Tooru awake.Â
He blinks up at youâ all puffy eyes and tousled hair and swollen cheeks, but he sees you and he softens.
âWanna go to the shrine?â
Iwaizumi still grumbles the whole way up the thirty five steps, but heâs quiet as Oikawa slips two coins into the saizen-bako. Hajime wraps an arm around your shoulder as the coins rattle in the box and you know heâs upset tooâ his hands are slightly shaking and he keeps sniffing. Nationals might have been Oikawaâs dream but Iwaizumi was also a dreamer, and sure, Oikawa was going to go, but they were going to go together.
Tooru hangs two Ema boards and for the first time, he bows at the Honden. Two claps. Head down and hands together as he prays. Iwaizumi joins him: and you watch as Oikawa apologizes to him and Hajime shakes his head- because it was Hajimeâs promise too.Â
Oikawa is twenty-eight and on a plane when he finally keeps his first promise.Â
Itâs a small promise: but a promise nonetheless, one that he made before he left for Argentina. He tells you he loves you at the airport but he has his boarding pass in one hand and his passport in the other. And you tell him you love him too, but also that heâs being unfair, and no you wonât go out with him. And Oikawa knew you would say that, but he still finds himself making a promiseâ a promise you laugh at because Oikawa Tooru never keeps his promises.
If weâre still single in ten years, Iâm going to find you, and Iâm going to ask you out.Â
You cry, and Tooru wraps his arms around you and cries tooâ and then Iwaizumiâs there, and Iwaizumiâs crying, and you donât know which part of you is Oikawa or Iwaizumi. Oikawa leaves for Argentina with a heavy heart but a hunger for the future.Â
In the ten years that pass he plays a lot of volleyball. He tans a lot. He learns some Spanish. He tries beach volleyball. And then, he buys a plane ticket on his birthday.Â
from: y/n (21:12) happy birthday tooru !! me n hajime r having an honorary drink for u. hope ur having fun in argentina!!! hajime and i say te amo !!!!
from: tooru (21:15) iâd like a hot sake plssss thank u!!! ( ËâżË )
from: y/n (21:15) LMFAO. no. me and haji r drinking ASAHI DRRRRRRYYYYYYYY for u bro also hajime got BUFF wat the hell hope ur tanning good in argentinaÂ
from: tooru (21:16) well tell BUFF iwa chan that ill be there in 5 and i want a HOT SAKE and also YES i tanned good SO EYES OFF IWAIZUMI
from: y/n (21:17) ? what? ur funny lol ⊠TOORU?
Tooru is twenty eight and might retire soon. Thirty five stairs is too many to climb and keeping promises is far more fun than breaking them. So he taps your shoulder, hands Iwaizumi your bouquet, and takes your cheeks in his palms to tilt your chin over.Â
âHi!â He says.Â
Tooru bends down to kiss you.Â

oikawa is back in japan for the first time since renouncing his citizenship. the very moment the plane wheels graze the concrete runway, he feels the difference.
he feels the difference over a warm bowl of chinese noodles, when iwaizumi catches him up on athletic trainer life, complaining about salary and overtime, cracking jokes about how tooru would never relate, âhe's got it good.â
his volleyball career skyrocketed, after all.
he feels it bumping into hanamaki at the convenience store, when buying melatonin gummies to help with the timezone adjustment. his former teammate feigns starstruck, theatrically gushing and pleading for his autograph. makki shows him a picture of his girlfriend; teases him about a bet made in high school. oikawa remembers the fight he had with you, about not having enough time. about choosing volleyball. about priorities.
he feels the change when he kicks off his shoes haphazardly in his parents' house, dreading the absence of a nagging mother, who would tell him to set them aside where they actually belong. he reaches for the light switch, the muscle memory of home still ever present - it doesn't take him long to find.
in that dimly lit sanctuary of his childhood, he learned something new.
at twenty seven, oikawa tooru learned that maybe change isn't bad. not always. not if it meant strawberry cheesecake. not if it meant happy birthday, idiot! piped neatly in vanilla frosting across the top. not if it meant watching you fight sleep (losing), as you wield a kitchen lighter in your left hand, candles in your right. you waited.
not if it meant he could see that look on your face, when you wake up on the bed, with your back to his chest, his chin hooked over your shoulder, absolutely livid over the fact that he surprised you, when it was supposed to be the other way around.
not if it meant that though everyone will change eventually, he can sign a truce with difference for now, because being able to recognise difference is the evidence that something is worth missing. and until the day he has to miss you instead of have you, he'll cherish every moment. even if it one day becomes a memory.
tooru knows now,
that to be loved is not (just) to be known.
TO BE LOVED IS TO BE REMEMBERED.

The air was charged with excitement and anticipation as athletes from around the world gathered in the Olympic Village for their first dinner. The buzz of conversation filled the dining hall, a blend of languages and laughter. Toru Oikawa, the star setter for Japanâs beach volleyball team, scanned the room with his trademark confident grin. His eyes landed on a table where a group of female beach volleyball players were seated, their camaraderie evident in their animated discussions.
Among them, one woman caught his eye. Your laughter was infectious, your presence magnetic. You were talking to your teammate, your eyes sparkling with excitement. Oikawa nudged his own teammate, who was busy devouring a plate of pasta.
âWhoâs that?â Oikawa asked, nodding towards you.
His teammate glanced over and shrugged. âNo idea, but sheâs definitely out of your league.â
Oikawa rolled his eyes. âWatch and learn.â
With a self-assured stride, he made his way to the table, flashing his most charming smile. âExcuse me, ladies,â he said smoothly. âMind if I join you?â
You and the women looked up, some blushing, others giggling. You raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. âIf youâre looking for an autograph, Iâm afraid youâre mistaken. Weâre not celebrities here.â
Oikawa chuckled. âIâm not here for an autograph. Just thought Iâd introduce myself. Toru Oikawa, Japanâs beach volleyball team. And you are?â
You exchanged a glance with your teammate before responding. âyn ln. Nice to meet you, Oikawa.â
He took a seat beside you, undeterred by your cool demeanor. âYou know, yn, I heard the best way to relax before a big game is to spend time with someone interesting. How about we go for a walk later?â
You smirked. âAnd you think youâre that interesting, do you?â
âAbsolutely,â Oikawa said with a wink. âI promise, you wonât regret it.â
You laughed, a sound that made his heart skip a beat. âSorry, Oikawa. Iâm here to win gold, not to play games. But good luck with your matches.â
He watched as you and your teammate stood up and left the table, your laughter echoing in his ears. For a moment, he was stunned by the rejection but quickly brushed it off. There were plenty of other fish in the sea, after all.
The next day, Oikawa and his team decided to catch the womenâs beach volleyball games before their own practice. The stadium was packed with cheering fans, the atmosphere electric. As the match started, Oikawaâs attention was immediately drawn to the court where you and your teammate were playing.
You were a force of nature on the sand, your movements precise and powerful. Oikawa found himself captivated, unable to tear his eyes away. Your skill and endurance were unmatched, and as the match progressed, he could feel his admiration growing.
âWow,â His teammate muttered beside him. âSheâs incredible.â
Oikawa nodded, his eyes never leaving you. âYeah, she is.â
When the final point was scored, securing your team the gold, the stadium erupted in applause. Oikawa watched as you celebrated with your teammate, your joy infectious. In that moment, he knew he had to see you again.
After the match, Oikawa made his way to where you and your team were gathered. He approached you with a confident stride, his heart pounding in his chest.
âCongrats on the win, yn,â he said, his voice warm. âYou were amazing out there.â
You turned to him, a hint of surprise in your eyes before it was replaced with amusement. âThanks, Oikawa. Didnât expect to see you here.â
âI couldnât miss a chance to watch such an incredible match,â he replied. âYou really stood out.â
You rolled your eyes but couldnât hide your smile. âIs this another attempt to ask me out?â
âGuilty as charged,â Oikawa admitted with a grin. âHow about we celebrate your win with dinner tonight?â
You shook your head, still smiling. âSorry, but Iâve got plans with my team. Maybe another time.â
He sighed dramatically. âYou keep breaking my heart, yn. At least come watch our game tomorrow. I promise itâll be worth it.â
You hesitated for a moment before finally saying, âWeâll see.â
Despite your noncommittal response, Oikawa couldnât help but feel a spark of hope.
Throughout your time at the Olympics, you and Oikawa seemed to run into each other constantly. Each encounter was filled with your usual banter and playful teasing, creating a tension between you that was impossible to ignore. Oikawa's persistence never waned, and each time, you would laugh and turn him down, but always with a smile.
One morning, you were in the gym, focused on your workout. The rhythmic sound of weights clinking and the hum of treadmills filled the air. You were in the zone, completely absorbed in your routine, when a familiar voice interrupted your concentration.
"Hey, yn! Need a spotter?"
You looked up to see Oikawa, grinning from ear to ear, a towel slung over his shoulder. You rolled your eyes but couldn't help the smile tugging at your lips. "I think I can manage, Oikawa."
He feigned a look of disappointment. "Oh, come on. Let me help. I promise not to distract you... too much."
You shook your head, but moved aside, allowing him to take position behind you. As you continued your reps, you could feel his eyes on you, and it made your heart race a little faster. Despite his playful demeanor, he was genuinely helpful, offering tips and encouragement.
After your set, you sat up, wiping sweat from your brow. "Thanks for the help. Didn't think I'd see you here so early."
He shrugged, taking a seat on the bench next to you. "I could say the same about you. Thought you'd be sleeping in after that intense match yesterday."
You smirked. "Rest is for the weak."
He laughed, the sound warm and infectious. "Spoken like a true champion. How about we grab a smoothie after this? My treat."
You shook your head, still smiling. "Nice try, Oikawa. Maybe next time."
He sighed dramatically. "You keep breaking my heart, yn. But I'll keep trying."
Another evening, you found yourself in the dining hall, scanning the array of international cuisine laid out before you. You were reaching for a plate of sushi when a hand beat you to it.
"Great minds think alike," Oikawa said, holding up the plate with a triumphant grin.
You rolled your eyes, grabbing another plate. "Don't you have your own food to eat?"
He shrugged, following you to a nearby table. "Food tastes better with good company."
You sighed but didn't protest as he sat across from you. As you ate, the conversation flowed easily, filled with your usual banter and playful teasing. He regaled you with stories of his teammates and their antics, and you found yourself laughing more than you'd expected.
"You're not so bad, Oikawa," you admitted after a particularly funny story about his teammate's failed attempt to cook ramen.
He placed a hand over his heart, feigning shock. "Was that a compliment? From the great yn? I'm honored."
You laughed, shaking your head. "Don't let it go to your head."
He leaned forward, his expression turning serious for a moment. "I mean it, though. You're pretty amazing, yn. On and off the court."
You felt a flutter in your chest at his words but quickly masked it with a smirk. "Flattery will get you nowhere, Oikawa."
"We'll see about that," he replied, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
One afternoon, you decided to relax by the pool, hoping to get some peace and quiet. You found a secluded spot, laid out your towel, and settled down with a book. The sun was warm on your skin, the sound of water splashing around you creating a soothing background noise.
Just as you were getting lost in the pages of your book, a shadow fell over you. You looked up to see Oikawa, dripping wet from the pool, a wide grin on his face.
"Fancy seeing you here," he said, shaking his wet hair like a dog, droplets of water splashing onto you.
You held up your book as a shield, laughing despite yourself. "Do you follow me everywhere?"
"Only when you're somewhere interesting," he replied, plopping down on the towel next to you.
You rolled your eyes, but couldn't suppress a smile. "And what makes you think I want your company?"
He shrugged, stretching out beside you. "I figured you could use some entertainment. How's the book?"
"Better before you showed up," you teased, closing it and setting it aside.
He laughed, a deep, genuine sound. "Always so harsh, yn. So, how about a swim? Bet I can beat you in a race."
You raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Is that a challenge?"
He nodded, eyes sparkling with excitement. "Absolutely. Loser buys dinner."
You considered for a moment before standing up. "You're on."
The race was close, both of you pushing yourselves to the limit. You felt a thrill of competition, matching Oikawa stroke for stroke. In the end, you won by a hair, emerging from the pool breathless but triumphant.
Oikawa climbed out after you, panting and laughing. "I guess I owe you dinner."
You smirked, wringing out your hair. "You can keep your dinner. The victory is enough."
He shook his head, still smiling. "One of these days, yn, you're going to say yes to me."
You laughed, grabbing your towel. "Keep dreaming, Oikawa."
As you walked away, you couldn't help but glance back, finding him watching you with that same mischievous grin. The tension between you was undeniable, but you were determined not to let him win so easily.
As the Olympic Games drew to a close, Oikawa realized his time was running out. On the last day in the village, he made one final attempt to find you. He went to your room, but it was empty. He searched the dining hall and common areas, but there was no sign of you.
Desperate, he spotted your teammate and rushed over. âWhere is she? I need to see her.â
âShe left for the airport about an hour ago,â your teammate replied. âHer flight isnât for another three hours, though.â
Heart pounding, Oikawa hurried to the airport. When he arrived, he scanned the crowded terminals until he finally spotted you at the baggage check-in.
He jogged over, slightly out of breath. âWait!â
You turned, surprised to see him. âOikawa? What are you doing here?â
He took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts. âI know weâve only known each other for a few weeks, but I couldnât let you leave without telling you how I feel. Iâve never met anyone like you. Youâre incredible, and I canât stop thinking about you. Can I at least have your number? Maybe we could go out sometime once weâre back home.â
You looked at him, your expression softening. âHow did you know I was here?â
âYour teammate told me,â he admitted, his eyes earnest. âI could have asked for your number from her, but I wanted to do this right. I wanted to tell you in person.â
You smiled, a genuine, warm smile that made his heart race. âThatâs surprisingly romantic, Oikawa.â
âSo, will you give me your number?â he asked, hope shining in his eyes.
You nodded, pulling out your phone. âAlright. Hereâs my number. And maybe, just maybe, we can go out sometime.â
He grinned, relief and happiness flooding through him. âI promise you wonât regret it.â
As you walked away to board your flight, Oikawa couldnât help but feel that this was just the beginning of something amazing. He watched you go, his heart light with anticipation for what the future might hold.

kiss me maybe:
summary: finding a flier for the volleyball's kissing booth was surprising for two reasons. a) kuroo had created one of the worst fliers known to mankind and b) oikawa tooru, the school's resident pretty boy was capitalizing off the rumors surrounding him. still, you couldn't deny your attraction to the setter, and he couldn't hide that you were the only one he wanted to kiss
pairing: oikawa tooru x g!n reader
word count: 12.6k (please give this a chance)
genres + themes: college!au, sort of friends to lovers(?), fluff, angst, kuroo being an occasional menace, iwaizumi being the sexiest friend you can have, kiyoko being an icon, romanticized college experience, oikawa being an idiot but yours
warnings: cursing, a tad suggestive in some parts, absolutely not proofread
a/n: hi there i am back with a long fic. anyways this thing is my lovechild and probs the most fanfic thing ive written. its really just a fluff monster (lol) and i hope you give this a chance <3 also dedicated to @chimielie because her stuff gave me the inspo to write ily lia thank you for being so talented
It was said that Oikawa Tooruâs kisses were mythical.Â
Some claimed that one press of lips from the kingly setter was like a hit of a drug, sudden in a way that sent you reeling.Â
To some, his kisses tasted like the finest candy, hand served on an ornate dish.Â
Most magically, it was claimed that a kiss from Oikawa Tooru could heal even the most broken of hearts. Just one thread through sun bronzed hair could make you forget about the most painful memories.Â
And of course, like any celebrity would, he knew about each and every rumor.
Naturally, you reckoned you were bound to see the dreaded flier sooner or later. It sat there still, taped onto the tiny bulletin board outside of the Organic Chemistry I room. It was the worst godawful flier youâd ever seen in your life. In front of you was a myriad of colorful borders, and even more whimsical fonts atop of a cardstock page. It seemed to call out to you with its boldness, as if to say âkiss meâ with its scrawling typography.Â
Mystic Kissbooth, it read in an infuriatingly ornate font. Come and kiss your woes away (and kiss ours away too â a mutually beneficial fundraiser!)Â
âI see youâve seen our handiwork,â chuckled a voice. You didnât have to turn around to recognize Kuroo, who simply leaned against the bulletin board in an attempt to catch your expression.Â
Not that he would. You werenât going to give him that luxury.Â
âNo wonder itâs such shit,â you laughed, gesturing to the list of names at the bottom, âIâm honestly ashamed to even know you.â
âHey,â he frowned playfully, ruffling your hair as he began his signature large strides. Curse him and his stupidly long legs. âThat was heavily inspired by your Canva templatesâŠ..you knowâŠ.the bad ones.âÂ
You let out a long and dragged out sigh while you followed your best friend (unfortunately) to one of the secluded benches on campus. Beneath the hustle and bustle of students as they sprinted to class, it was almost peaceful to rest your legs for just a moment.Â
Relaxing onto the bench, you placed your backpack at your side, creating a wedge between you and Kuroo, whoâd taken the seat right next to you. He didnât seem to mind, simply casting a grin in your direction.Â
For starters, you werenât sure how to feel about the Canva invasion. Yes, it was a design platform, and yes, youâd tried (and failed sometimes) to create infographics whenever Kuroo needed a helping hand. It was just a tad surprising to discover that Kuroo had drawn his inspiration from your least successful works.Â
âWhatâs this whole thing about?â You decided on asking after a lengthy pause. Kuroo cast his gaze to meet your own, his grin almost glued into place.Â
âWell, not that weâre in any trouble, but the volleyball club could use some funds. Weâve been trying to set up some pretty competitive matches and practice games, but we need the fuel to do it. Oikawa thought this was a great way to make use of all the attention we have.â
âNo wonder. Heâs probably the most popular one on the teamâŠ.though Iwaizumi is honestly the one to be looking at.âÂ
âRude,â Kuroo huffed, âThereâs a lot of other people to be interested in, you know.â
âHopefully you donât mean yourself,â you chuckled, dodging a playful hit on the arm from Kuroo. âBut in all seriousness, a kissing booth?â Kuroo paused for a moment, seemingly mulling over a proper response, when Iwaizumi entered your frame of vision.Â
There were times you wondered why Iwaizumi Hajime didnât consider a career in modeling. From where he stood, the sunlight almost seemed to caress his skin, tanned and sun bronzed from a summer spent playing volleyball on the beach. Upon seeing you and Kuroo on the bench, he extended a quick wave before jogging over, arms flexing as he got closer.Â
âStop ogling him,â Kuroo smirked, âYou could stand to be a bit less obvious.â âShut up,â you muttered just as Iwaizumi ended his jog to stand in front of you.Â
âNice to see you here,â he beamed, his eyes meeting your own, âI barely see you around these days. Did Kuroo scare you away from the club?â âNo not at all,â you smiled, moving your backpack to make space for the handsome spiker. Some of the students on the nearby path stopped to turn at the three of you, and Iwaizumi, none-the-wiser, took a swig from his water bottle.Â
He was never aware of the effect he had on people. That was exactly what contributed to his charm.Â
âY/N wanted to know a bit more about the booth,â Kuroo started. âI think youâd explain it better than I could.âÂ
Iwaizumi raised a brow, âItâs just a club fundraiser. I mean, it's the only decent idea that Oikawaâs had in a while.â
âSo he really was involved, huh.â You said (more to yourself than anyone else). The two men looked at you confusedly, before Kuroo finally spoke.Â
âYou know, you always seem to get a bit fidgety whenever someone mentions Oikawa. And you always try to be away from him when you come to our practicesâŠwere the two of you involved or something? Because if you were, I am honestly offended you didnât tell me.âÂ
You aggressively shook your head no, warranting a chuckle from Iwaizumi. âWell, if they were, I think itâs had an impact. You start to see him for who he really is.âÂ
The three of you laughed, choosing to enjoy the fresh breeze.Â
However, even despite the simple beauty of this moment, you couldnât stop yourself from thinking about the booth.
Oikawa stood at the front of the lecture hall, spinning his pen while meeting the eyes of his teammates. At his side was Kurooâs flier, whimsically colorful in all the ways a magical kissing booth (like this one) was supposed to be. Iwaizumi sat in the front, close enough for Oikawa to catch the teasingly judgy stares of his best friend while he waited for everyone to settle down.Â
Finding a free lecture hall had been no problem. All heâd had to do is smile nicely at a few eager students, verify with a few professors, and send a frantic âMEET NOWâ to the club group chat.Â
The real problem was convincing the rest of the team of this idea in the first place.Â
âHey guys,â he beamed, putting the flier down on the desk closest to him, âThanks for showing up on such short notice. You guys are the best.âÂ
âWe didnât come for you,â Makki snickered. âWeâre just here to see what crazy justification you have for this.â âWell,â he began, âWeâve been in the spotlight for quite some time now. A lot of us have been featured in the campus newspaper, weâve made it onto our universityâs podcast, and have you even seen the instagram fanpages for us? Theyâre absolutely insane. So, what better time to take advantage of this?âÂ
âAnd this has nothing to do at all with the rumors?â A voice asked. Oikawa turned to meet the eyes of Semi Eita, who sat on the left corner closest to the door.Â
The team laughed as Oikawa shook his head in faux denial. âAbsolutely not. Why would I ever do such a thing?âÂ
âBecause you're smart!â Oikawa was almost surprised to hear the remark from Bokuto, who sat near Kuroo with his own flier. âAnd itâs a lot of fun.âÂ
The team murmured their respective agreements before the room fell silent again. Oikawa, ever the opportunist, slid into the silence with an explanation.Â
âI was thinking we set it up as sort of a de-stress day after midterms. We could get the other clubs to join in their own mini fundraisersâŠlike a carnival of sorts. Weâll set up the booth with colorful signs and posters, and we kiss based on the cash. We can take shifts to make sure the two of us arenât running the whole show. All proceeds are for our matches and practice games. Sounds good?â âA question. Are you going to make people line up to kiss you?â Matsukawa asked casually.Â
âYou mean us Mattsun. And yeah, a line works just fine.â Oikawa stopped for a moment to admire the unanimous cooperation of his team. âIâll talk to the other club leaders and see if we can come up with a date. If thatâs all the questions youâve got, Iâll see you at practice tomorrow!âÂ
With this, his team filed out the door. He caught Kuroo animatedly discussing a design to attract customers to their booth with Bokuto, mentioning that he had a friend whoâd know just what to do about it. In the midst of his rant, heâd mentioned a name.Â
Yours. A name he hadnât realized he missed hearing.Â
A faint smile crept onto his face at the thought.
Kuroo was a menace. From the minute heâd found you at the library, heâd been nagging you the entire day, practically begging for you to come to their practice.Â
âY/N please,â he whined, attempting his own version of a pout, âIf you see us, you could help design the poster to attract customers.â âI donât think you need help with that.â That much was true. Especially with Oikawa headlining the event. They were guaranteed strong profits.Â
Somehow in the midst of all this pleading, youâd ended up right outside the gym. The sounds of volleyballs hitting the wooden floors resonated off the walls, the sound so clear that you could hear it from your spot near the door.Â
âYou planned this,â you glared, watching Kurooâs smile twist into one of faux innocence. Bastard. Â
âWhat can I say? I am the master of distraction.â He opened the door, swapping his shoes out at the front and walking into the gym to the greetings of his team. You followed closely behind him, carefully striding across the polished wood and shutting the door behind you.Â
The gym had always been grand. Your universityâs colors were plastered onto the bleachers, with a wide curtain separating the different sides of the gym. There was space â so much of it â and the team spread out to practice various skills.Â
For a brief moment, you allowed yourself the childish awe of standing in a space so big.Â
âI forgot how long itâs been since youâve been here,â a voice greeted, âBut itâs good to see you Y/N.â You knew that voice. Youâd know that voice like the moon knew the stars. Youâd know it anywhere.Â
âOikawa,â you said, turning to acknowledge the brown-haired setter. âLong time no see.â
As much as you didnât want to, you drank him in. He seemed to be in high spirits this afternoon, hair artfully tousled in the way he always did, and lips so perfectly smooth that they seemed out of a Chapstick ad.Â
âYou donât really come around anymore,â He said, taking to walking with you around the gym (much to your own surprise). âI was getting a bit worried actually.âÂ
âWhat do you mean?â You stared at a spot a bit beyond the setter, watching Bokutoâs cross court spike slam into the floor with dizzying speed.Â
âWellâŠ.we talked a bunch. And you came here at the beginning of the year. You suddenly stopped thoughâŠ.so I wondered if something happened.âÂ
âYou noticed?â You scoffed. âIâm surprised you paid attention.âÂ
âWhy wouldnât I pay attention?â Oikawa raised a brow in confusion before suddenly, the answer seemed to smack him in the face. âYouâre petty about that?â
âYou barely paid me any mind,â was all you said, meeting Oikawaâs warm gaze, âIt was like weâd never met at all.â
Youâd met Oikawa Tooru on the flight to university. Youâd waved your family goodbye at the gate, hugging them tight to your chest and memorizing the feel of them against you.Â
You walked steadily, pulling your suitcase along as you made your way to the security check in.Â
âEverything goes in a bag! Belts, shoes, phones! Take off your shoes and step aside. Laptops can stay in your bags! Move along!âÂ
You hauled your suitcase into the bin, placed your phone and wallet beside it and sent it over to the TSA associate, taking a minute to place your jacket and shoes into another bin and sending that over too.Â
The gray bins were plain, old and rackety and classic, comparable to a washed out 1930âs movie. You trodded through the metal detector, feeling the cold floor through your socks.Â
When you finally made it through check in, you were met with a TSA associate over your bag, looking straight at you as if youâd committed some heinous crime.Â
âExcuse me,â the TSA officer asked, gesturing to your bags, âAre these your bags?âÂ
âYes,â you affirmed, almost nervously. âIs there an issue?âÂ
âYou seem to have some liquid above the restricted amount. Iâm going to have to take a look.âÂ
For a moment, you were startled. What did you even bring? Youâd diligently packed your belongings and made sure everything was secureâŠ.surely there had to be some mistake.Â
Your breath wavered the minute the officer pulled out your favorite body wash.Â
In the midst of your packing, youâd forgotten youâd slipped it into your carry on.Â
âOh.â Your voice shook as you meant the TSA officerâs eyes, âIâm sorry. Thatâs my favorite one.âÂ
âIâm sorry.â For a moment, it almost seemed like the man had sympathy for you, âBut Iâm going to have to ask you to pour half of it out. If you refuse that, youâre going to have to give it away.âÂ
Every step towards the outside garbage felt like a punch to the chest. While you kept composed on the outside, pouring away half of your prized wash felt miserable.Â
A dying rose. A dying star. Something dying slowly and surely inside.Â
Now youâd have to get another one. Brand new packaging lost to your honest mistake.Â
This sucked ass.Â
You meandered through the security area again, more ghost than person and collected the rest of your belongings. While your voice wavered, you didnât shed a tear, and simply walked along.Â
Somehow, in the midst of all your wandering, you ended up in the departure lounge. In front of you were an array of connected seats with their generic cushioning and the customary TV screens telling you what flight was taking off when.Â
The glass paneled windows to your right showcased the hangar, and from your spot, you could see planes parked out in front. The sun set down in the distance, leaving a watercolor blend of pinks and oranges in its wake.Â
You could almost call it picturesque.Â
You leaned your suitcase against a wall for a moment, scanning the lounge for an available corner. Unfortunately, your plane was packed.Â
The chatter of students was overwhelming, and without a choice, you settled into a seat at the far corner of the lounge next to a pretty-boy who you were certain wouldn't speak to you.Â
They normally never did. Why should it be any different now? And honestly, you didnât want to talk.Â
âThis plane is probably fully booked.â A voice (the perfect blend of warm and deep) said. You turned to meet the eyes of said pretty boy, a surprisingly lovely shade of brown. Light and bright and inviting. Almost like a mocha. Or a latte.Â
âTell me about it,â you laughed, slightly amused by the novelty of the situation. It wasnât common for pretty boys to talk to you. Even less common for you to entertain any conversation, especially when you felt the way you did. âWhen I waved âgoodbyeâ to my family, I wasnât expecting this much of a crowd to tell them about.âÂ
âYeah?â Oikawa smiled, the corners of his mouth lifting upwards invitingly. âI was more surprised at the lack of seats.âÂ
âYouâd think theyâd anticipate a college student stampede.âÂ
Oikawa laughed, the amusement lighting up his whole face. It was a simple laugh â chiming and lovely in the way that all laughs were, but you were certain youâd do anything to hear that again.Â
His presence had a way of putting you at ease.Â
The two of you coincidentally had seats right next to each other on the flight. As the plane lifted off, you snapped a picture of the city lights, twinkling their tiny goodbyes as they faded from view.
The cabinâs lights were dimmed, yet even in the haziness, you could make out the features of the boy next to you.Â
High cheekbones. A defined cupidâs bow. Lips that seemed even softer than the lather of that soap you loved so much.Â
Youâd mourn your soap later. Even if it was an object, your attachment to it simply showed a care for your belongings.Â
What could be more human than that?Â
Oikawa turned to you, gaze friendly as the plane began its mounting ascent.Â
âYou know, the TSA can be real dicks sometimes.âÂ
What the fuck. Who was he? A psychic?
âWhat did they do to you?â
âThey made me pour out half my expensive hair gel. I insisted it fit the requirements but they refused to accommodate me. So mean.âÂ
You couldnât help but laugh at the pout he wore. It seemed even someone as vivacious as Oikawa couldnât charm himself out of aviation regulations.Â
Somehow the whole thing made you feel a lot better.Â
You and Oikawa (Tooru as he later insisted) shared many conversations throughout the flight. Some revolved around human existentialism (with him quoting the âwe were infiniteâ from The Perks of Being a Wallflower). Some revolved around space.Â
Some even revolved around clubs, with him sharing high school volleyball stories and pledging your universityâs team to greatness.Â
When fatigue finally claimed you, the comfort of his shoulder was unmatched by anything youâd ever felt. Heâd extended an invite for you to come and see them practice anytime, and laid his own head atop of yours.Â
Of course, when you showed up for said practice, so had a bunch of other fans. Heâd barely spared you a glance, let alone spoke to you when youâd tried to seek him out.Â
A grand gym and an even grander boy.Â
You just avoided him after that.
âIm really sorry about that,â Oikawa said. While his expressions were genuine, you werenât sure how much you were going to trust it. Certainly, in all the time youâd spent apart, he must have changed at least a bit.Â
To think he was the exact same boy who you met on the plane would be foolish.
âYeah, water under the bridge.âÂ
âNo, not really.â Oikawa paused to study your expression. Beneath all of your nonchalance was something fragile. Admiration? Loathing? He doubted it. âHow long did you plan on avoiding me?â
âAs long as I needed to.â You answered matter-of-factly. âThen again, that was when I thought youâd forgotten about me.âÂ
âHow could I ever do that?â Oikawaâs expression morphed into a worried one, eyebrows knitted together and mouth downturned as if to say damn thatâs an accusation.Â
âWell-â
âLook I meant to seek you out after that day. I saw you there, wanted to come over, but at that point youâd gone off to continue chatting with Kuroo and met Iwa. And classes exist.â
âOkay. Water under the bridge for real.âÂ
His eyes lit up. âYou mean it?âÂ
You nodded in approval, only to be dragged away by Kuroo, whoâd suddenly appeared behind you.Â
âWhat the fuck?â You yelled, not caring much for your use of profanities. Some of the nearby team members snickered as you were pulled to the corner of the gym, in front of an array of poster boards.Â
âWhat?â Kuroo asked, âYou and Oikawa seem to be fine now, so I thought I could ask you some questions about stuff that really matters. Namely posters.âÂ
You were met with various shapes and sizes of poster boards. Some were Elmers Tri-Folds. Some were the cheap foam boards you sometimes saw while grocery shopping.Â
âIf you want a design for your freaking booth,â you began, looking at Kuroo, âGive me some time.â
Oikawa was in the podcast studio. The room was secluded, plastered with posters and heart decals of all shapes and colors. Right beside the door was a framed picture of the volleyball team, with their silly faces frozen in motion.Â
Shimizu Kiyoko walked out from behind the desk, nonchalantly acknowledging Oikawa with a nod. âOikawa, what can I do for you?âÂ
âHey,â he winked, unaffected by her lack of reaction, âHave any idea where I can find your host. Iâd like her to do me a favor.â
âAdvertising.â Kiyoko said bluntly. âI donât think your booth needs any more attention. Our socials have covered it already.âÂ
âWe always love the extra coverage.âÂ
âDoesnât your friend help with all the designs? I think theyâd be the perfect candidate to help with all this.â
âY/N?â He asked, almost dumbfounded by how obvious that answer was.Â
âYes,â Kiyoko smiled. âTheyâre very nice. Iâve seen you talk a few times, though it honestly seems like they donât like you very much.âÂ
âNot true.â He huffed.Â
âWell it makes sense. Especially if the rumors are true.âÂ
People saw Kiyokoâs beauty and shyness and mistook her for a soft and innocent podcast manager.Â
Anyone whoâd dealt with her enough knew she was actually a force to be reckoned with.Â
âThe rumors are whatever you make of them. Iâm simply an opportunist.âÂ
Kiyoko chuckled and for a moment, Oikawa felt accomplished. âYou donât need to tell me this. I already know.âÂ
He leaned against the door, and stretched out his arms in front of him before resting them at his sides again. âWould you at least consider telling the main host to help us out?âÂ
Kiyoko shuffled the papers in her hands, before meeting his eyes. âI wonât give any guarantees, but something tells me that if you do set up a de-stress carnival, your club will be the central focus of our broadcast.âÂ
âThank you!â He beamed, feeling like a weight had been lifted off his chest. âI could kiss you for that.â
âNo thank you,â Kiyoko declined, âIâm not interested in confirming the rumors.âÂ
As Oikawa left the studio, Kiyoko walked into the recording room, a tiny smile on her lips.
Your Canva page lay woefully blank before you.
Youâd promised Kuroo a design if he gave you time and Kuroo, ever the considerate friend, actually stopped bothering you about the poster. He seemed to trust in Oikawaâs judgment, and it seemed that the rest of the volleyball club did too.Â
As a token of thanks, youâd come to the library, your brain and Pinterest providing you at least a vague idea of what it was you wanted to do. However, when it came time to put pen to paper (or more fittingly, hand to mousepad), it seemed that your ideas had been wiped clean.Â
Your disappointment felt like a leaky faucet. Despite the minuteness of the feeling, it seemed to pool the more you thought about the situation. While designing was never an obligation, you owed it to your friends.Â
You sighed, placing your bag onto the hardwood library table and casting your eyes outside. A slowly setting sun was what greeted you, a medley of pinks and oranges appearing onto a slowly disappearing blue sky.Â
How cliche. Considering one's disappointments next to a sunset.Â
âY/N?â A voice called, almost saccharine in the silence of your surroundings.Â
And there he was. Draped in the setting sun like a painted figure, cloaked in a veil of sunlight that skimmed his skin like silk. Oikawaâs eyes were almost honey colored in that lighting, and beneath the darkened shelves, he was almost a mystical apparition.Â
âOikawa,â was all you said, cursing every possible force for him appearing now, looking like that, when you barely had anything to show for it.Â
âKuroo told me youâd offered to help us put together some signs for the de-stress carnival.â Oikawa walked over, stepping away from the sunlight and placing his bag down at your table, opting for a seat across from you. âWhich, in case you were wondering, I got approval for. A lot of the other clubs are going to be there.âÂ
âThatâs good.â You allowed yourself a glance at him. Your pettiness had all but dissipated, but you were still wary of looking at him for too long. He was like the sun, golden and lustrous and magnetic. You werenât quite ready to be pulled into his orbit.Â
âSo,â Oikawa said, taking a glance at your computer screen, âRough designing?âÂ
âYeah. Inspiration has been hard to find and your club is counting on me.âÂ
âIf it means anything to you, we wouldnât have asked for you to do it if we didnât believe in you.â You looked up to see Oikawaâs gaze set firmly on your own, as if tracking your expressions. Under his stare, you felt raw. Vulnerable. If you were a cake, and he was cutting you open.Â
You werenât sure what to say.Â
A beat of silence permeated the space between you, and the two of you made no effort to stop it. It was somewhat comforting. Unsaid words of yours were understood by him.
âIt feels like a lot of pressure,â you finally admitted, letting out a breath you didnât even know you were holding. âI want it to be worth your while.âÂ
âWhy wouldnât it be?â Oikawa was closer. His breath was soft, fanning over the side of your cheek like a secret.Â
âIâm not sure.â Your voice was nothing more than a whisper.Â
Oikawa paused for a moment, as if contemplating something before decisively placing his hand on top of yours.
For a moment, you were startled by the warmth of his palm, grounding you in some way that didnât quite make sense to you yet. Something about this was intimate in all the ways it shouldnât be. Amidst a darkening sky and a slowly dimming library, you could almost consider this clandestine.Â
You waited for the rustle of a bookâs pages or the resounding footsteps of the librarian to break down the moment, but they never came. Â
Oikawa looked at you, seemingly memorizing your features. He said nothing, but a slight smile appeared on his face the second he spotted a stray lock of hair by your ear. You could feel your face progressively heating with every moment spent in this proximity.Â
Damn celebrity setters. Damn stupid stupid beautiful men who do this. Damn that Oikawa Tooru.Â
Gently, as if touching something fragile, Oikawa smoothed down your hair, brushing the tip of your ear with his fingertips. He held your gaze fondly before suddenly, making an incredulous face.Â
âWhat the-â He said, looking at your hair again. âItâs back up again.â He looked at his hands in horror, as if their magic didnât work. âDamn it, thatâs not how that goes.âÂ
You couldnât stop the laughter from erupting out of you at his antics, You swiftly flattened that pesky strand and looked back at him, feeling the amusement pool in your chest at his dismayed expression.Â
âSorry man,â you laughed, syllables coming out breathless, âSometimes stuff doesnât go to plan.âÂ
Oikawa seemed like he wanted to melt into the floor, and feeling the need for some fresh air, you dragged him out of the library. Upon leaving the double doors (and air conditioning), you were met by the lit sidewalk and found the wooden benches by the line of trees.Â
You sat down, gesturing for him to join you.Â
âI donât think Iâve ever seen this one before,â Oikawa mentioned off-handedly, âI mean Iâm here a lot, but Iâm not sure when this was put here.âÂ
âItâs been hereâŠ?âÂ
Oikawa sighed, tilting his gaze to the now dark sky. âYou do have an eye for good things.âÂ
You raised a brow. âWhat does that even mean?âÂ
âThe stuff you make is adorable. And Kurooâs always said that everywhere he brings us are all places you found.âÂ
âReally?â You leaned your upper body onto the bench. âI didnât expect credit from him.âÂ
âHe cares about you,â Oikawa said. âHe gave a lot of shit when he realized that weâd talked on our plane and then not again. But I deserved that.âÂ
âI was petty. But itâs not like I can actually walk up to you.âÂ
âWhat?â Oikawa seemed puzzled, as if this was something impossible for him to fathom. âWhy not? I donât think Iâm that bad.âÂ
âIwaizumi says otherwise.âÂ
âMean. But seriously, why?âÂ
Youâd forgotten how refreshing Oikawa was. Even though you were sitting on a bench, you felt practically weightless.Â
âRumors,â was all you said, gesturing to him.Â
Understanding seemed to flash into his eyes, and slowly, like connecting pieces of a puzzle, it all fell into place. He paused for a moment before meeting your eyes with a grin.Â
âYou know theyâre just rumors right?â He smirked, âI went to a party a while back to kick off club season. There was this one girl who really wasnât leaving me alone, so I ended up leaving. Turns out sheâd told her friends that she and I made out at the party and gave me a whole lot more credit than I was expecting. Not that I mind making out, but Iâm picky.âÂ
âPicky how?â You asked, words leaving your mouth before you even had the chance to think them over.Â
âPicky as in thereâs really only one person Iâve even wanted to kiss since I got here but havenât got the chance to. Iâm hoping they come to the booth. Just so Iâll get to know what thatâs like.âÂ
You felt a subtle twist of something in your chest, though you werenât sure what to make of it. Of course he had his eye on somebody. It was bound to happen eventually.Â
âWhy are you making a booth to do mass kissing then?â A valid follow up question. A guy like him could successfully pull whenever he wanted to.Â
âBecause Iâm an opportunist,â he sighed, âAnd Iâm not even sure if I can make a move properly. I donât function like I normally do when theyâre around.âÂ
âOf course you can. Anybody would say yes to you, Tooru.âÂ
With this, something in him seemed to snap and he immediately pulled you closer, your faces just an inch apart. His hands were firm around your waist, and the sensation was nearly searing. You could feel everything, from his hands to his breath to even the way his eyes seemed to scan your face.Â
The way he looked at you now was like worship.Â
âWhat are you doing?â You whispered shakily. With him all around you you could barely breathe, let alone think.Â
âMaking a move.â His eyes were on your lips. His hand gently left your waist to skim your arm before placing a hand on your cheek. âMay I?âÂ
Your nod was nearly imperceptible before he captured your lips in yours.Â
Soft, was your first thought as you felt his lips brush yours ever so lightly. You leaned into him, relishing the vaguely sweet taste of strawberry Chapstick on his lips as you swiped your tongue over his lips.Â
Oikawa Tooru was a mystic. His fingers tangled in your hair and his lips searched for yours as if he was a lost man and you were his savior. He traced the curve of your waist and kissed you passionately, nibbling your lips when you pulled at his shirt.Â
You could kiss him forever. You moved to nip at the tip of his ear, and his shaky breath had you considering if you should bite down harder. He pulled you back in and you melted into the feel of his lips and hands and the way his touch seemed to awaken something inside you.Â
The way he held you was reverent.Â
When you finally split for air, Oikawa held you close, his smile never wavering. He rubbed a thumb across your cheek, and placed a chaste kiss on your forehead.Â
âThat was magical,â you murmured into his shirt, and you couldnât help but feel the slightest bit happy to hear the laugh you liked so much.Â
You reckoned youâd be able to put together a solid design after tonight.
Oikawa had a skip in his step the following morning. Heâd aced every assessment, finished all his homework, and made major breakthroughs at practice. His sets to Bokuto were so flawless that Bokuto could hardly believe heâd made those shots.Â
Everyone on the volleyball team was certain that something had happened, but Oikawa refused to let up.Â
He didnât kiss and tell after all.Â
âWhat is up with you?â Iwaizumi asked good-naturedly, tipping back a water bottle. âYouâve been in a surprisingly good mood all morning.âÂ
âItâs been a good day,â Oikawa smiled, offering no other details while picking up a few stray balls on the court. The gym floor seemed exceptionally shiny today. Heâd be sure to thank whoever waxed the floor for their services when he could.Â
âSomething definitely happened.â Kuroo chimed in, scrutinizing Oikawa like he was something under a microscope. âThe question is what.âÂ
âAm I not allowed to have good days?âÂ
âNo you are,â Kuroo smirked, âBut a day this good only happens after a sudden surge in popularity which âlast time I checkedâ didnât happen, orâŠâŠdid you make some breakthrough?âÂ
âWith my sets, yes.âÂ
âNo,â Kuroo smiled knowingly. âIâm gonna curse them out for not telling me anything.âÂ
Oikawa hid his surprise with a flash of indifference, though internally he cursed the middle blocker. It seemed that he was just as good at reading people as he was at read blocking.Â
Iwaizumi caught on almost immediately, casting his eyes to his longtime friend, who all of a sudden, was acting like a deer in headlights. He found it odd that the nature of your relationship with Oikawa had transformed seemingly overnight.Â
It seemed that you never truly harbored any resentment against him.Â
Still, he resolved to approach you about it as soon as he could.Â
The minute that you walked through the gymâs double doors, the entire team thought that theyâd summoned you with all the prying they were doing. You hauled something large through the door and placed it against the wall, proud of yourself for the herculean effort it took to bring it through.Â
The minute he registered your presence, Oikawaâs face looked like a puff of cotton candy. His cheeks were rosy with all the teasing and the memories of last night, and when he saw what it was that youâd leaned against the wall, he thought he should run over and kiss you out of pride.Â
âGood morning guys,â you beamed, a smile so radiant that Oikawa had suddenly lost all the focus heâd had all morning.Â
âMorning Y/N,â Iwaizumi greeted, walking over to greet you with a hug and a slight gesture to the object that was now leaning against the wall. âIs this it?âÂ
You nodded excitedly. âI got the inspiration to put it together last night. I think it captures the magic of the booth.âÂ
Iwaizumi leaned to flip over the posterboard and decided that heâd never seen anything more fitting in his entire life.Â
The sign was a pastel wonder, a pale blue at the bottom and moving to a light pink at the top. Across the poster were small and light volleyballs, somewhat transparent against the background as if the pattern was a part of it. The borders of the poster were filled with various lip prints (and even funnier, some hidden Chapsticks).
The font at the center was a far cry from the scrawling archaic font that Kuroo had used on their initial flyers. It was a simple block font, a shade of pink with a glow filter and a pattern that made it look like a light-up sign on the part that really mattered.
The Volleyball Club presents, the poster read, written in a smaller font. Right below that, the light up letters spelled out The Mystic Kissbooth. Help kiss us to greatness.Â
The team crowded around the board, marveling at both its quality and its thoughtfulness.Â
âY/NâŠ.â Bokuto trailed off, his eyes nearly bursting with amazement, âThis is crazy!âÂ
âYeah,â Semi added, âThis is ridiculously good. Kuroo, where the hell have you been keeping them.âÂ
Kuroo simply crossed his arms and smiled with pride. Heâd always believed in you.Â
Oikawa stood shell-shocked at your work, feeling all the days of preparation finally coming together. He looked at you and smiled a smile so genuine, you were glad youâd finally pulled through.Â
You looked to the floor bashfully for a moment before meeting the teamâs eyes with renewed confidence. âThank you. Iâm glad to help.âÂ
Iwaizumi stood at your side, smiling fondly at you before turning his gaze to Oikawa. âHey. Oikawa. What is the deal with the de-stress carnival? When is it, where is it, and where are we setting up?âÂ
Oikawa, still elated, looked around the gym at the team. âIf you want details, I think we should call another meeting.âÂ
âThat is a great idea,â you chimed in.Â
âWanna join?â Oikawa asked (hopefully).Â
âIâm sorry, I donât think I can. Iâve got a date with Kiyoko.âÂ
The team went silent. âYou have a what?!â
The evening hues only made Kiyoko more beautiful. She was dressed casually, wearing classic blue jeans, a tank top, and a cardigan that only accentuated her figure. When she saw you approaching her, a smile appeared on her face instantaneously.Â
âY/N!â She greeted, âItâs good to see you.âÂ
You jogged up to her and pulled her into a friendly hug. âItâs good to see you too!â
You and Kiyoko fell into step naturally, opting to have dinner at one of your favorite places outside of campus. It was a quick walk from where youâd chosen to meet up, and in such good weather, it was a crime not to spend more time together.Â
âI have a lot to tell you about,â Kiyoko began, âStarting with Oikawa Tooru. He showed up in my room and asked for the host. Heâs got to know itâs me right?âÂ
âYeah,â you nodded, âI know you use a modulator to stay under wraps so people take the podcast seriously, but heâs had a very good track record for being perceptive.âÂ
âThatâs a painâ she sighed, âI hope heâs not going to spread it around.âÂ
âHe wonât,â you assured her, âOikawa can understand rumors better than anyone.âÂ
Kiyoko smiled relievedly, though she raised a brow at the mention of rumors. âAre those true?âÂ
You fought the heat that seemed to emerge onto your face the minute she mentioned that. You just hoped it would go unnoticed by her.Â
Her blue eyes, unfortunately, were just as perceptive as they were pretty.Â
She smirked, crossing her arms and stopping on the sidewalk path. âWhen did that happen?âÂ
âDonât worry about it. Letâs keep walking.â You wish your voice had come out more strongly than a murmur.Â
âWhen?âÂ
âLast night.â Damn Kiyoko for getting answers out of you.Â
âAndâŠ?â She raised her brows expectantly.Â
âRumors are baseless but I confirm them. He is magical.âÂ
âI ought to say something about that,â she giggled, and you wanted to bury yourself into your hands to avoid her teasing.Â
âShush.âÂ
The two of you had a lovely dinner and opted to grab a quick drink from the speciality beverage store next door. Kiyoko grabbed a strawberry milkshake and you opted for a tropical fruit floater that theyâd just created. Thanks to Kiyoko, both drinks were on the house.Â
She nursed the straw between her lips and took a drag of her milkshake before meeting your eyes. âI have some information on the de-stress carnival.âÂ
You urged her to continue, and Kiyoko did.Â
âLooks like Oikawa and the other members of clubs decided to officially name it the Cool Down Carnival. Theyâre just going to refer to it as Cool Down for ease. Theyâre planning to organize it the Saturday after midterms and theyâve been working on concessions like cotton candy, caramel apples, popcorn, and a whole boatload of stuff. Administration is also totally fine with this.âÂ
âWow,â was all you could say as a response. You were honestly impressed with Oikawa. He put so much thought and care into a silly rumor that had transformed into one of the schoolâs biggest upcoming events. He was an alchemist of opportunities, taking a rumor of lead and transforming it to gold.Â
âYeah,â Kiyoko nodded, âIâll get social media to cover it for me. So far, nobody doubts that Iâm the manager of the âCast, so it should be fairly reasonable for me to do.âÂ
âOut of curiosity, do you know anything about how theyâre planning to do the shifts of the booth?âÂ
âAll I know for certain is that Oikawa said he probably wasnât gonna do a headlining shiftâŠor a shift at all. A lot of the other members were perfectly fine with taking this on, but there has been some backlash.âÂ
He was planning on not headlining the booth?
Your heart was suddenly very warm and fuzzy in your chest.Â
Kiyoko knowingly smiled at you before tipping at the front register and dragging you outside. The breeze was oddly pleasant, something a bit uncommon for this time of year. It was approaching colder weather, but it felt nearly spring-like.Â
âThe weather isnât making sense,â you said, enjoying the feeling of freedom that came with nighttime out.Â
âIt hasnât been making sense,â Kiyoko smiled, âWeâre anticipating a fresh fair.âÂ
Springs and falls blended together. You found a beautiful leaf on the sidewalk and pressed it to your palm, preserving the feel and look in your memory.Â
âIâm looking forward to it,â youâd finally tell Kiyoko as you parted ways, meaning each and every word.
When Oikawa had showed up at your doorstep in the morning, your sleep-addled brain could barely fathom the reason as to why he would do such a thing.Â
That was, until he walked into your room carrying breakfast in a brown bag.Â
âGood morning Y/N.â He said, voice still slightly raspy from a good night of sleep. (You werenât going to forget how that sounded forever).Â
You greeted him with a morning greeting of your own and sat on your bed, stretching your limbs and analyzing the boy whoâat this present momentâseemed like the happiest guy on earth.Â
âFeel free to help yourself,â Oikawa grinned, grabbing a bagel and a pack of cream cheese from the bag. âI have some updates for you.âÂ
âDoes it have to do with the Cool Down?â You walked over to the bag and grabbed something you liked from the inside.Â
âWow. How did you know about the name?âÂ
âI have my sources,â you winked.Â
Oikawa simply laughed. âI know itâs Kiyoko dumbass. Sheâs one of the sneakiest podcast hosts of all time.âÂ
âSo you do know.âÂ
âObviously.â Oikawa lounged on the chair in your corner. âNobody else is ever working in that office. She should get some people to join her.âÂ
You nodded and shifted to sit next to him on the couch. His warmth was a surprisingly pleasant addition into the morning, and you found yourself leaning into him. He didnât make any move to stop it, opting to pull you in and place his arm over you.Â
âWe have classes soon,â you said groggily, âBut I donât want to move.âÂ
âWe donât have to right now.âÂ
âThanks Tooru.âÂ
âOf course, Y/N.â He smiled. âThough we do have an afternoon meeting on how to divide the shifts. Iâm not sure what weâre going to be doing about me.âÂ
You suddenly felt a lot more awake. You shifted your weight onto your unsupported arm and looked up at Oikawa. âAre you planning to take a shift?âÂ
Oikawa shifted nervously in his seat. âIâm not sure. I may have to for the sake of demand. Everyone is expecting me to live up to the expectation. I think we would be less successful without my involvement.âÂ
You felt a twist of something. Not jealously, but not comfort either. Something between the two. You rose away from Oikawa, walking over to the opposite side of the room where your bed was and met his eyes.Â
âDo you really have to?â you asked, feeling partially unfair. There was nothing official between the two of you at the moment, but youâd thought after the kiss two nights agoâŠ..you thought you had a chance.Â
âI might,â he gulped, âBut you know youâre the only one Iâve ever wanted to kiss.âÂ
You sighed exasperatedly. âI know that you came up with this as a business opportunity and because you thought weâd neverâŠget anywhere, but a long shift is going to be a lot of people.âÂ
âI know,â he sighed, meeting your eyes with an expression in his own that looked a lot like sadness. âBut the fundraiser might just have to come first for nowâ no thatâs not what IââÂ
âPlease leave,â you said, voice wavering a bit, âI donât want to deal with the whole priorities thing right now. We can say we kissed once for fun. Headline it if you must. Later Oikawa.âÂ
You turned away from him and walked towards your closet to find appropriate clothes for the day. You couldnât even stand to look at him right now. Things would become too complicated for you to handle.Â
âY/N, Iâm really sorry.â Oikawa said from behind you, âThat is genuinely not what I meant.âÂ
You turned to face him again, not even able to meet his eyes. âThereâs got to be some semblance of truth in what you said earlier. You love your team Oikawa. They are important. I donât expect you to throw away opportunities for me. Weâre not even dating.â You laughed dryly. âIâd like a bit of space. We can talk a bit later.âÂ
Oikawa seemed like he had a lot more to say, but he wordlessly slipped out of the door, leaving your room noticeably empty.Â
Once heâd left for certain, you collapsed onto the floor and let loose the dam of tears youâd held in for so long.
When Iwaizumi found you in the library, he knew immediately that something was wrong. Your eyes were reddened ever so slightly, covered over by a splash of cold water to the face (most likely), and your usual cheerfulness when you greeted him was a lot less lively.Â
He took the seat beside you, surprised by your lack of response.Â
âHajime,â you said softly, turning over to smile sadly at him, âGood to see you here.âÂ
Correction: something was horrifically wrong.Â
âWhat happened?â He asked softly, wondering what was enough to dampen your normally resilient spirit. Â
âFucking Oikawa,â you laughed sarcastically, âLook at me saying Iâd never get caught up in his web, and then doing exactly that.âÂ
Iwaizumi wrinkled his brow. That day on the bench, heâd known enough to discern that you and Oikawa had some sort of history. That much continued to be made obvious by Oikawaâs constant urge to see you and include you in everything that he and Kuroo didnât think was important enough to invite you to.Â
However, he wasnât sure when you and Oikawa became more than a past set of acquaintancesâŠ.and that stung a little. He understood your reasoning though. Especially if it was as complicated as you seemed to feel at the moment.Â
âWere you guys dating?â
âNo.â You turned to face him in full, and he was struck by the magnitude of just how magnetic you were. Iwaizumi was guilty of being stuck in your orbit. âJust a kiss. Because he sweet talked me into thinking he wanted something.â
âKnowing him, he probably did.â Iwaizumi said, âOikawa has a tendency to be obsessive to get what he wants, but also be blinded by obligations. This was definitely about him headlining the booth, right?âÂ
You nodded, feeling a sudden tightness in your throat at the thought. You werenât ready to confront the morningâs events quite yet.Â
âThat dumbass,â Iwaizumi groaned, âIf heâd told us that he liked you and had actually managed to make a move we wouldâve gladly taken his shift! Who gives a fuck about what the college body wants? Half of them thirst over everyone!â You laughed a bit at the truth of that statement. âYeah, and Kiyoko told me she was also planning on making a little appearance.âÂ
At this Iwaizumi raised his brow. âOh thatâs about to be carnage.âÂ
âAbsolutely,â you giggled, âWho knows? Maybe youâll be the lucky person.â Iwaizumi laughed, a sound that was low and sweet and comforting. âI think Iâll leave it to some of the other boys. They deserve a chance after all.âÂ
The two of you grinned at the mental imagery of the team fighting for a chance to interact with your beautiful friend, and suddenly, Oikawaâs shittiness seemed like something far less relevant.Â
Still, even with the humor of the situation came the very uncomfortable realization that you and Oikawaâ-whatever you wereâ-were done if you didnât come to some consensus.Â
You shoved your hands into your face, wondering how the hell youâd managed to go from avoidant and unattached to too attached. Maybe the rumors had some merit. A kiss from Oikawa was all that it took to get so jumbled.Â
Iwaizumiâs warm palm on your back was what brought you back to your senses. He rubbed his slow circles and sat there patiently until you emerged from your cover of shame.Â
âWhat am I going to do?â you asked, voice raw and vulnerable and everything youâd rather it not have been.Â
âWhatever you want to do.â Iwaizumiâs gaze was genuine, soft eyes studying you. âYouâre entitled to your own decisions. Kuroo and I would never ditch you for Shitty you know.âÂ
âItâs for the team,â you whispered, feeling tears threatening to spill over your cheeks. Your vision was hazy, and you blinked slowly to clear the water from your eyes. âSo then why do I feel like this?âÂ
âBecause you care about him, Y/N.â Iwaizumi squeezed your shoulder affectionately, âYou and him clearly bonded on some intergalactic level, so having that be suddenly shattered in favor of something seemingly less important is going to feel like shit. In fact, he is the real piece of crap here.â âThe team matters.â âThe team is all about relationships.â Iwaizumi said firmly. âI have a hunch thereâs someone in this tournament that he needs to beat. Thatâs why heâs been obsessively orchestrating the perfect way to raise money to have a practice match beforehand. Still, I wonât deny it. Oikawa is an idiot for doing this to you. You have all the rights to move on with your life.âÂ
âI think Iâm gonna take my space from him for a few days,â you eventually responded. âI think Iâll also not visit the booth. Iâll give Kuroo the sign in advance so he can help with setting up?âÂ
Iwaizumi nodded solemnly. âIf thatâs what you need to do, Iâll be your number one supporter. Iâd still love it if you could stop by though. We love having you around.âÂ
You nodded at him. âIâll be there for you and Kuroo. Always. And you guys can hang out with me at the Cool Down when youâre off shift.âÂ
âOf course,â Iwaizumi smiled, âFor you? Anything.â
âHow do you say, âIâm angryâ in French?â The ping of the recording microphone tapped on as Oikawa paced quickly around his room.Â
âJe suis fĂąchĂ©.âÂ
âHow do you say, âI like to go out with my friendsâ in French?â âJâaime sortir avec mes amis.âÂ
âHow do you say, âI went to my friendâs houseâ in French?âÂ
âJe ne veux pas continuer.âÂ
âOui Monsieur. Ă BientĂŽt!â His phoneâs recording feature switched off, leaving him in a silent room once again.Â
He was regretful, so much so that he paced around in his room in the hopes that it would give him some sort of clarity. As much as he wanted to approach you, he knew you werenât ready to talk to him right now.Â
âShittykawa,â he heard from his door, opening with a subtlety and closing with a bang. Classic Iwa move.Â
He turned to face his best friend, who at this moment, seemed to be quite irritated with him. He could feel the lecture as certain as one could feel a thunderstorm in the air.Â
Iwaizumi stood, arms crossed in Oikawaâs room, leaning against the wall and pinning him with a look so strong it might as well have been a thumbtack. Oikawa felt rooted in place, and all the words he initially planned on saying left his mouth.Â
âSo Ushijima Wakatoshi happens to be at a school just a bit over,â Iwa started, âI did my research. Why not play a practice match with them to start to see their setting style? Break down their setter, practice receiving from a left-handed person, and maybe we can beat him, right?âÂ
Oikawa sighed, feeling all the fight leave his body. He made his way over to his pale blue rug and sat down. âI know. Itâs ridiculous.âÂ
âWhatâs ridiculous is what you did to Y/N.â Iwaizumi glared at him. âIf youâd said something about liking them and actually successfully getting them to like you, then we wouldâve been perfectly capable of handling the shifts. Hell, even Kiyoko is coming. That alone will give people incentive to come and kiss us.âÂ
âI made a mistake,â Oikawa cringed. He didnât even want to think about the morning. What was intended to be a romantic gesture ended up being a horrible memory. His attempts to distract himself were futile, and he couldnât help but wonder how Iwaizumi had found you. âBut they probably donât want to talk to me.âÂ
Iwaizumi looked at Oikawa sadly. âTheyâre planning on skipping the booth. Theyâve already decided to give their poster to Kuroo so he can help us with set-up. So donât plan on seeing them.âÂ
He grimaced. âNot coming? Really?âÂ
Iwaizumi nodded. âI was pretty unhappy about it, but weâve got to give them space to process everything.â The minute youâd smiled at him in the airport, talking about âcollege stampedes,â Oikawa knew he wanted nothing more but to know you better. Heâd thanked every lucky star for the seats you had next to each other and relished every moment spent with you.Â
He wondered why you avoided him for the next months, always daydreaming about what heâd say to you when you finally reappeared at practices. Heâd searched for you in your classes, but he always missed you.Â
When you walked into the gym on that fateful day, he thought he had a genuine chance. You were perfect. Your thoughts were exquisite, your smile radiant, and everything about you felt right. When he kissed you, he couldâve screamed to the heavens that his heart was yours.Â
Perhaps that was why his heart seemed to tear a bit at Iwaizumiâs declaration. You wanted to move on from this.Â
âOikawaâŠyou can still fix this you know?â Iwaizumi pulled him up from the rug, noting the reignited spark in his eyes. âYou should probably get the fair set up, find Y/N, and explain yourself. Iâm certain theyâll understand.âÂ
âItâs the least I can do,â he said solemnly, âAnd if they still decide they want nothing to do with me, at least I did my part.â
You found him at Kurooâs place at night when youâd stepped through his door uninvited (like you did at times). In your hands was your laptop, a few pencils, and the sign youâd made for the booth. The last thing youâd expected was to see the person youâd been trying so desperately to avoid.Â
Oikawa, for a moment, looked like heâd seen a ghost. He looked at the door, brown eyes concerned and scanning you as if youâd just walked in through the wall.Â
Nobody said anything. You stood still, too shell-shocked to process the fact that a night before the Cool Down, Oikawa was spending time with Kuroo. In fact, you could barely believe Kuroo had ever allowed Oikawa into his place in the first place, especially when he knew that you were planning on popping in at some point.Â
Kurooâs eyes followed your gaze, finding it landing right on the floor next to Oikawa (as opposed to straight at him).Â
âWell,â Kuroo began softly, âI didnât warn either of you.âÂ
âYou could have,â you said, looking back at Kuroo, âI wouldâve liked to know before I got here.â âBut then you would have never showed up.â Oikawaâs voice was clear, slicing through the silence of the room with a blade of decisiveness that you hadnât heard from him. He looked you over, seemingly analyzing your health since the day heâd fucked up.Â
âI wasnât planning on running into you,â you admitted, finding the courage to meet his eyes. âIn fact, I was literally just coming to drop off the sign for your booth, talk to my best friend, and then go to bed.âÂ
âPlease let me explain myself.â Everything about Oikawa seemed pleading. His face harbored an expression of guilt so boundless that you werenât sure how to react.Â
You wordlessly sat down in the corner chair closest to Kurooâs door, setting your stuff down on the surface closest to it.Â
âIâm sure Iwaizumi must have told you what it was that we were raising money for.âÂ
You nodded.
âI never had the chance to tell you more about what I struggled with in high school," Oikawa said quietly. âI was surrounded by talented players. Some of them are so talented that I thought I never even stood a chance. I realized at the end of my matches that I deserved to be on the court just as much as anyone else.âÂ
âYouâre a damn good setter Oikawa,â Kuroo interjected, âAnd even Semi admires your sets. Heâs from the same school as Ushijima too.â
âThank you,â Oikawa laughed softly, but even the sound was sad. He turned to meet your eyes. âI was out of line trying to say the volleyball club mattered more to me than what we were getting to be. I was worried theyâd be weird at me for flaking, but theyâre my team. Iwa told me theyâd always have my back. Happy setter happy tosses right?âÂ
You took a moment to process everything that he was saying, ultimately coming to one conclusion. He really did feel bad.Â
âWhy are you so obsessed with having a chance to beat someone you had a rivalry with in highschool?âÂ
Oikawa paused, contemplating your question. His brow was furrowed, and his hands clutched anxiously around nothing, seemingly finding the best words to phraseâwhatever it wasâthat he was feeling.Â
âIt was to give myself the confidence to know I can still beat tough opponents,â he said quietly. âBut it was never worth losing you.âÂ
You gently moved onto the floor, kneeling your way over to where Oikawa sat. When your fingertips skimmed his cheek, cool from the fall time air, he seemed fragile.Â
You gently curved your fingers to tuck a lock of his hair behind his ear. âAre you sure you mean it?âÂ
âEvery last word.â Oikawa whispers, and maybe against your better instincts, you pull him into an embrace.
As far as Oikawa was concerned, you werenât coming to the booth today.Â
Cool Downâs set up began bright and early, and despite last nightâs emotional clarity, Kuroo was still the one who showed up with the sign.Â
The booth was placed in a central location, but deep enough into the carnival so that after a sweet kiss, everyone could go and support the other clubs. He hadnât been able to spot Kiyoko quite yet, but he was certain they were bound to cross paths eventually.Â
He walked across the grassy area where the carnival was being set up, watching the glorious âCool Downâ sign being placed at the front of the admit area. Many sports teams and board members of academic clubs were helping organize their own booths.Â
âHey Oikawa! I can put up the banner!â Bokuto shouted from across the field, jogging up to their area with a rolled up âMystic Kissboothâ backdrop.Â
âBe careful!â He yelled back, âWe canât have one of our best spikers getting hurt. I need those cross court and straight shots in perfect condition!âÂ
Bokuto grinned so widely that Oikawa couldnât help but grin back. âYou can count on me!âÂ
He took a moment to slouch against the now filled bouncy castle by their stand, clutching his clipboard to his chest. He could practically sense the excitement seeping into the space as the nearby club members set up their stands.Â
Heâd had the opportunity to survey the space beforehand, and was quite pleased with the nearby stations.Â
The art club created a paint gun bullseye game to win handmade trinkets and jewelry. The president stood proudly at the set up side, excitedly loading up paint into the guns. He could already predict the boyfriends whoâd attempt to win there.
To the other side of them was the statistics clubâs probability stand. Theyâd set up numerous games: cards, a wheel, and even ring toss for the chance to win huge prizes. At the present moment, Kuroo was inquiring about the legitimacy of the airpods in one of the memberâs hands (and yesâthey were legit).Â
âThis is pretty amazing, huh?âÂ
Oikawa snapped out of his reverie, only to see Mattsun sporting his classic smirk. He looked around for Makki, but didnât find him.Â
âYeah,â he admitted, âIâm honestly surprised our little flier accomplished this much.âÂ
âIâm not,â Mattsun chuckled, âYouâve been like this since high school Oikawa. Everyone here is really grateful for the rumors. Speaking of whichâŠthink the culprit is going to show up today?âÂ
Oikawa snorted, momentarily horrified at the soundÂ
that escaped him. âThatâs ridiculous. Iâm not planning on being a headliner. Iwaâs got that covered.âÂ
Makki walked into view just a few moments later, looking thoroughly confused. âWhereâs the rest of the team?âÂ
Kuroo walked over at the exact moment, clapping Makki on the back. âWe decided to give them a little break, considering theyâre going to be doing all the kissing later.âÂ
The group gathered together, and Mattsun pointed to the castle. âWhoâs running this thing?âÂ
âOh itâs just a free fun thing the school is putting up.â Oikawa smacked it for good measure.Â
âHow did midterms even go for you guys?â Kuroo laughed, âI pulled what I wanted in all my classes. Somehow. Orgo was a fucking miracle though. I genuinely thought I failed.â
âI was mostly fine,â Mattsun chuckled, âThough we wonât talk about history. Freaking liberal arts.âÂ
Oikawaâs midterms had gone more or less to plan, but the added emotional stress had made it much more difficult to keep cool.Â
Standing there in that grassy field, he felt more at peace than he did the rest of the week.Â
Maybe today would be okay after all.
You and Iwaizumi were in your room trying to devise a plan on how to attend the carnival. The cool wood of your desk hit your wrist as you spread out the makeshift blueprint of the event that Kiyoko had so graciously given you.Â
Iwaizumi paced along the floor, inspecting outfits that you picked out while you devised a mental list of everywhere you wanted to go to maximize your enjoyment. Economic principles were literally designed off of utility, and you wanted to make sure all your contributions would have the best outcome for the clubs and yourself.Â
Midterms had been stressful, and while last nightâs talk had fixed most of what had contributed to that stress, you still wondered about Oikawa. Â
Iwaizumi was the eventâs new headliner, so what did that mean for Oikawa?Â
You werenât sure.Â
The Saturday morning filled your room with sunshine that was comforting. From your window you were greeted with the multicolored leaves of campus, some floating down leisurely to hit the grass.Â
Iwaizumi, it seemed, had finally picked your outfit.Â
âHere,â he gestured, pointing to one of your favorites. âYou rock this one.âÂ
âWhy thank you,â you smiled, tossing him the blueprint. âIâve finally figured out the order Iâm going to tour the Cool Down.â
Iwaizumi caught the paper in one arm, muscles flexing ever so slightly as he did. You nodded appreciatively. He was going to generate a shit ton of money.Â
He put a pen between his lips ever so slightly as he read the marks on the page. âCotton candy. Art booth. Bouncy castle. Stats games. Chemistry lab. Apple dunk to win candy apples. Physics coaster.â He handed the page back. âThatâs a pretty solid list. I think youâre missing something though.â
You pulled the pen out of Iwaâs mouth (surprised at your boldness) and smiled gently at him. âIâll be sure to pop in at some point or be nearby to support you.âÂ
Iwaizumi nodded, âOf course. I just need to beat you at any and all games we visit after my shift.âÂ
You snickered. âNot a chance.âÂ
Iwaizumi simply smirked in response.
âHey, I need two tickets!â A student hollered to her assistant, who at the present moment, was working on acquiring more admit tickets from the roll theyâd customized for the event. âWe have quite the line here.âÂ
âIâm working on it!â The assistant hollered back, jogging over with the entire row.Â
The line for the Cool Down was large, and you were thankful youâd had the foresight to arrive early enough to avoid a majority of the crowd. Being friends with Iwa had its perks tooâthe minute that the admitting team had spotted him, theyâd immediately ushered you to the front so you were in a position to visit him later.Â
Soon enough, you were at the front of the line.Â
âWell hello there friend of Iwaizumi,â the girl at the front smiled, âHow many tickets do you need?â âJust one,â you said, surprised at the lack of prompt to pay the entrance fee. âWhat about the entrance fee?âÂ
âOh, Iwaizumi took care of that already,â the assistant grinned, handing you a beautifully designed cardstock ticket and tying a wristband around your wrist. âSo you can walk straight in.âÂ
You smiled graciously at the duo. âWow. Iâll go find him and pay him back. Thank you guys.â
Stepping around the ticket distribution center, you walked straight through the decorated entrance area and walked in.Â
For a moment, you were awestruck. The usually empty grass fields were filled to the brim with activity. All around you were the booths of various clubs, all with lines to try them out. You could smell the sweet and tart scent of caramel apples in the distance, and saw a couple trying out the physics clubâs make-shift coaster with a cotton candy in their hands.Â
The late afternoon was brisk and fresh, and you felt the possibilities of the evening unfurl around you. As the sky darkened its hues, the fair would begin to light up from the fixtures that trimmed everyoneâs areas. Everything, from the food areas, to even the Mystic Kissbooth would create a movie-like scene.Â
You decided right there and then that the Cool Down was the best fair youâd ever attended. Youâd never seen anything as well thought out as what you saw today.Â
You made your way to the popcorn area, finding new booths that you hadnât seen on the blueprint. In front of you was a simple dart-throw, with the guarantee of winning a special edition Cool Down shirt if you hit within a certain range.Â
This was intriguing.Â
âHi there,â you said quietly, walking up to the booth. âCan I give this a whirl?â The boothâs president looked up at you shocked for a moment before nodding.Â
âOf course!â He said excitedly, elbowing his shift mate. âY/L/N Y/N, right? We are huge fans of your work. Kuroo has told us so so much about you!âÂ
âMy work?â You asked curiously as they pressed a dart into your palm. âLike my fliers?â âHell yeah,â the president grinned. âPay if you win okay? I honestly want you to get our design out of it. We were inspired a bit by your Mystic Kissbooth sign.âÂ
In the spirit of good fun, you aimed the dart as best as you could, so surprised when you hit a spot very close to the bulls-eye.Â
âHey!â you shouted excitedly, âI actually got in range!â The president smiled excitedly. âAmazing! Whatâs your shirt size?â You told him your size, tucking a good amount of money into the jar. As soon as the soft shirt fabric hit your hands, you were immediately overcome with a sense of pride. The design was beautiful and simple, capturing the essence in the fair in just an image.
âYouâre the design club?â You grinned, âThis is amazing!â âAh thank you,â the president said bashfully, âItâs an honor to get a compliment from you. Youâre more than welcome to join us. Canva art is still art we love.âÂ
âIâll be sure to consider it!â You waved goodbye to the design booth as you made your way deeper into the fair, a t-shirt in hand.Â
âHey there! Want a chance to win a cool plushie? Come right over!â You turned your head to be met with the sewing club with something that looked a lot like âBop-Itâ set up with sheets of papers next to them. Out of sheer curiosity you made your way to the booth, finding a larger crowd than you anticipated. âOkay,â one of the members began, âHere is how this works. You and your competitor will receive a pre-programmed Bop-It machine. Follow the color scheme as closely as you can and note the last color in each sequence on your sheet. If you donât mess up before your partner, you win ANY handmade plush of your choice!â In front of you, you spotted a couple tucking money into the jar and competing against one another. The round was quick, ending when someone clicked the wrong color. The handmade plushie of the winner was adorable.Â
Somehow, all your observations had led you to the front of the line.Â
âHello,â a student smiled, âDo you have a competitor with you?â You were about to share a response when you heard a voice behind you. âYeah, they do. Iâd like to play please.â You were pleasantly surprised to find Kiyoko grinning as she tucked a hefty amount into the jar. The student at the front seemed enamored, and so did the entire line.Â
âShimizu Kiyoko is hereâŠâ they all whispered.Â
âHey Kiyoko,â you smiled, placing your own money in the jar. âPlanning to beat me?âÂ
âOf course.â She grinned mischievously, âI ran a volleyball team. I am competitive enough to beat you.âÂ
The game began as soon as the students got a grip of themselves. You frantically hit the colors and noted them down, only to tie with Kiyoko. Youâd both walked away with adorable plushies, though Kiyoko had forcibly had to ensure that they didnât hand her an extra.Â
âIâm glad to run into you,â you smiled, walking with her further into the grass. âI had no idea what time you were planning to get here.âÂ
âIâm glad I found you.â Her smile was infectious, and soon enough, you stood in front of a candy apple stand.Â
âAre you planning to visit the booth?â You asked her, watching her pay for her apple.Â
âYeah,â she smiled, âOikawa begged me to cover, so I was feeling nice. Though heâs been sulking lately.â You raised a brow. When you saw him last night, you could feel his fatigue. You felt the stress melt out of him when you pulled him in for a hug, but you hadnât realized the extent of his distress.Â
âHe hasnât kissed today at all,â she smiled knowingly, âI think heâs saving an appearance for a special someone.â âHeâsâŠ.not headlining?â You were shocked. After everything, it seemed that he really meant what he said.Â
âNope,â Kiyoko wiped some caramel from her lips. âAnd the boothâs sales have been spectacular.âÂ
Standing there in the field, you were hit with the intense urge to see him. âGo,â Kiyoko smiled, âTheyâve been waiting for you to show up.â âWeâll catch up.â You smiled as you took off in a jog towards the booth. The wind swept your cheeks as you ran, and you could see the evening sun dip into different colors. Beautiful, you thought, feeling the adrenaline pump through your veins.Â
He really had meant everything. You needed to see him.Â
When you arrived at the booth, you were shocked at the line. So many students lined up, money in hand as they waited for their chance to kiss a volleyball player. You were shocked to see the crowd, watching someone hand Semi a particularly large bill before leaning in for a kiss.Â
You surveyed the booth for Oikawa, but you couldnât find him anywhere. You couldnât stop the thrum of your heart in your chest from overpowering your senses. Where was he? What if you were too late? At that particular moment, Oikawa walked out from behind the stand, putting some Chapstick onto his lips. And then, he saw you.Â
You stood in line, a large bill in hand and an expression that seemed almost desperate. Oikawa has never seen anyone look more perfect than you did right now. You held a handmade plushie and a shirt, lips flushed from biting them.Â
You met his eyes, feeling your heart shock at the sensation. There he was.Â
Before you even had a chance to think about what you were doing, you ran out of line to him, shoving the bill into his hands.Â
âTooru,â you said breathlessly, looking at him with an expression heâd never seen before. âKiyoko told me you werenât headlining. I was afraid I wasnât going to find you. Iâm sorry for not trusting you.â Oikawa could hardly hide his shock as the words tumbled from your lips. He studied your cheeks, and smoothed out your wind mused hair with a soft smile. âHey, itâs alright.â You exhaled, looking at him like he strung the stars. âI thought I wouldnât make it in time.â Oikawa simply grinned before pulling you in for a passionate kiss.Â
This was different from the last time you kissed. He cupped your face softly and wrapped his other arm around your waist, tracing a small heart into your back. You could feel the curve of his lips as he kissed you softly, pulling you deeper when you smiled back into it. Everything about this was soft, almost loving. It felt like a truce. It felt like a confession.Â
It felt better than both of those things. When you finally split for air, his smile was nearly blinding. He looked at you like you were a poet and he was your poetry, a product of your purest affections.Â
âGo out with me sometime?â He looked nervous, standing there like he hadnât just kissed you like you were the most special person in the universe.Â
âOf course,â you grinned, pulling him down for another kiss.

listening to you âą tooru o.
synopsis: being the quiet girl had its perks until you were discovered by the only and only Tooru Oikawa. He's made his advances towards you before, to where you shook him off, but this time you both get close. That's when he discovers your huge, loud, adoring familyâa complete opposite from you.
other: high school!oikawa x quiet!fem!reader, reader is Matsukawa's little cousin, family gathering, oikawa falls head over heels, fluff, high school love
You closed your eyes and took a deep breath in, mentally groaning, preparing yourself because you somehow got the attention of Oikawa yet again. No matter how much effort you tried to blend in, no make up, no differing hairstyles from the other girls, nothing to make you stand out, he always found you.
Before he could reach you, you grabbed your lunch and quickly walked towards the door that led to the staircase of the rooftop.
Students werenât allowed up there but you were always swift about it, constantly eating lunch up there without anyone knowing. That was the one place you were safe from Oikawa at.
Once you finally settled down on the ground, you were able to enjoy your lunch that your mother always packs you, with a small note of encouragement too. You sighed as the wind blew, wishing Oikawa would just leave you alone.
You had helped him with a homework question once because you had crammed the math equations in your head all summer before school started so you would never fall behind. It was an anxiety thing for you, all your parents could do was encourage you to try your best and say that it would all work out in the end.
However, when you magically solved âthe hardest question everâ Oikawa claimed, he tried attaching himself to you since.
Every so often Oikawa would try to ask you out, make little flirty comments, or something of the sort since you apparently âsaved his lifeâ with the homework question before it was due. However, it got exhausting trying to avoid this newfound friend, if heâs even that.
You had rejected Oikawa because you knew him, you knew that he was so consumed with volleyball, hence the reason his last girlfriend broke up with him.
Dating Oikawa would not be serious and that went against everything you stood for. You never told him that, you hardly told him anything to be honest. However, that didnât stop him from constantly pestering you to know more about you.
You groaned when the burning sun got too much for you and made you pack up the empty lunch box and head inside of the building.
You wished you could leave Oikawa out of your head but you simply couldnât, he never tiredâto him, this was like volleyball, you intrigued him and now he wonât stop.
âYou know, no students are supposed to be up there, right? I never pegged you to be a bad kid, Y/n-chan.â You didnât even have to turn around to know who was talking to you. Leave it to Oikawa to know where you were at all of lunch.
And the fact that absolutely no one calls you Y/n-chan either was a dead giveawayâand the fact that he immediately put you on a first name basis.
âHi, Oikawa.â You curtly said, trying to get around him and head to class, not really wanting to deal with his antics right after lunch.
âAwe, Y/n-chan, spare me a couple more minutes please?â He whined, still following you to your class, which was separate from his too.
âOkay, fine. What?â You had your limits, and Oikawa always tried to push them, itâs been this way for almost an entire month.
âCome with me after school? I have a surprise for you,â He smirked, wanting you to meet his team. You donât have any extracurricular activities either so it would be perfect.
The bell was about to ring, and for you it made you anxious, you just wanted to be in class and not be late.
âOkay, okay fine. I have to go.â You left him standing in the hallway without any regard to how he was going to be late for class as you rushed into your own.
Oikawa on the other hand didnât if he was late, you agreed to something he asked for the first time ever. He breesly walked to class, not caring about being late nor the slap he got from Iwaizumi either.
Oikawa knew he wanted to prove to you that he actually likes you, he can always see the skepticism on your face when he asks you out.
Granted, heâs gotten discouraged sometimes and wanted to leave you alone but being your friend was better than nothing to him. And, he has priorities too, heâs not just some aloof guy who had tunnel vision for just volleyballâalthough he does love it.
After classes were over, Oikawa tried taking your hand in hisâto which you in the blink of an eye yanked it away from himâhe led you to the gym where he practices. You could hear the volleyballs, the squeaking of shoes, and minimal talking and laughing in the background.
Anxiety spiked in your stomach, âIâm not going in there, you realize that right?â You backed away, a hint of disdain in your voice. After the amount of time heâs been attached to you and didnât realize that you wouldnât do that was kind of weird to you.
âWhat? You donât want to meet my team?â Oikawa asked, with puppy dog eyes, pleading with his hands together.
âNo, Oikawa, Iâm not meeting your teamâI just, I donât want to.â You turned away, adjusting your bag and preparing to walk home, not explaining more to him about the why.
You never really gave Oikawa a goodbye when you leave, you realize.
âWait, Y/n, I wonât make you meet them. Do you have to go, though?â He genuinely asked, devising to ask you to come see something else, wanting more time with you.
âIâŠNo, I donât have to go, just donât make me go in there.â You confessed, letting him have more of your time that you swore to yourself that you wouldnât give him.
âThank you, follow me, I promise itâs nothing bad.â He half smiled, something genuine instead of the smirks he constantly flashes you.
You reluctantly followed him as he led you around the gym, to the backside of it. It was a surprise when you saw a lot of cherry blossom trees, their petals were everywhere, it looked magical.
âThis is where I come to hideout sometimes, I think itâs very calming.â You looked at him in awe, setting your bag to the side once you sat down on the grass. Oikawa knew it was different being with you, you could let Oikawa talk for a while and he would know you were listening because thatâs just who you were.
You were different too, you didnât fawn over him or try to constantly get his attention or make yourself an obstacle in his way when he was in a hurry. Sometimes it was hard to really be himself and keep a facade when he just wanted to be by himself.
He doesnât get that feeling with you though, thatâs why heâs been trying so hard to woo you. He stared at you while you looked around at the trees, probably loving the sight when the wind blew.
It would gently wake up the petals and twirl them around in the air for a small dance before moving them to new spots.
When he settled next to you, being sure not to repeat his mistake from earlier and touch you without your consent, he set his head back onto the tree bark. Being able to talk free of anyone judging him is what he also loved about being with you.
âYeah, and I take my nephewâhis name is Takeroâto volleyball classes on Mondayâs because thatâs when the team takes a break from practice.â Oikawa prattled on, you played with the soft, pink petals that littered the ground underneath the cherry blossom tree.
You never realized that Oikawa actually liked a place like this either. Maybe you put a small stereotype on him when you realized that he was pining for you.
He continued about his parents after finishing telling you about some of his childhood experiences with his older sister, she sounded like a delight.
He left you there to listen to him, which wasnât a pain as you actually got to hear who the real Oikawa was and that made you smile during some of the stories he told you. Once he was finished opening up, he peered his gaze towards you.
He wanted to know you too, you realized that he created this conversation discussion to also hear about you. That didnât happen, you both sat in silence that was only awkward on your end.
He watched your face, tracing every bit of it with his eyes, stamping it to his memory.
Oikawa really fancied being here with you, watching your movements of how you apply chapstick, play with the ends of your hair, and other small tid-bits. However, after a few minutes trail by, he realized that neither one of you were speaking and he was just staring at you.
You could see Oikawa getting curious about your reluctance to talk about your family, you genuinely didnât know where to even start either. You chewed on your lip, which didnât go unnoticed by him either.
Your family was incredible and they have respected you since the beginning so you never had a reason to be ashamed of them.
Moreso, you were ashamed of the fact that you werenât like them. You would give anything to not be the oddball of the family, even though they wouldnât have it any other way.
However, you werenât about to open up about your deepest insecurities to a third year who didnât know anything about you. In his mind though, he was curious about your home situation, the thoughts were endless for him.
What if you didnât get along with your family and he was pushing boundaries he didnât know were there? Or perhaps you had a single parent, or grandparent, or even an aunt or uncle.
He knew that no matter what it was, he wanted to be respectful to you and your kin. After realizing you preferred the traditional ways of dating, he was piecing together the perfect opportunity to ask your familyâor guardianâto date you.
âI want to ask you out the right way Y/n.â Oikawa started, not looking at you anymore but the side of the gym for the fact that he could hear his teammates leaving the gym and realized he skipped an entire practice to be here with you.
âCan I meet your family and ask for permission?â He finished, a caring smile he gave you, only you in that moment. Your heart skipped a beat too, you bit the inside of your cheek, trying to refrain from the blush you could feel coat your cheeks.
You never, ever thought that the Oikawa Tooru would ask you to meet your family in order to ask you out. You figured he would have just gotten bored at that point. You nod, actually allowing it this time. How he figured it out? You have no clue.
You both got up from underneath the cherry blossom tree, you collected some so you could press them later too.
Oikawa made a little stop at the corner store so he could buy flowers for when he asked, it made him nervous when he saw you resisting a giggle as you waited on him.
Seeing you happy like that was something Oikawa never wanted to share with anyone else. He walked a step behind you on the sidewalk to your house because he wanted you to lead the way, obviously not knowing where you lived.
You swiftly pulled out a card from your bag as you both arrived at a pristine white, large gate. You swiped the card through which allowed you to enter, hearing the small creaks from the gate with Oikawa following shortly behind, he was in awe that you lived within an actual gated community.
However, as he followed you, he stared at the sight of quite a large family outside, they were enjoying the weather.
He could tell by the sports that were being played, the smoke from the grill, and small children drawing on the sidewalk.
He smiled at the sight, enjoying the happiness that he got from seeing a family like that. It made him wonderâand get nervous againâabout the fact that he was going to actually meet yours within a few short minutes.
Although, imagine Oikawaâs surprise when you turn down that driveway and wave to your little cousins who were chalking very colorful pictures on the sidewalk.
âWait, Y/n, this is your family?â Oikawa asked, sounding taken aback that this was your family.
You peered behind you as you grabbed the door knob to open the front door, âYesâŠ?â
His brown eyes stared back in awe, and you half smiled, entering the house. After taking off your shoes, you did your afternoon routine in which he just stood there, waiting for you.
He soaked in all of the pictures on the walls, counters, bookshelves, everything. Seeing pictures of you when you were a kid was something he wanted to so badly coo over but he had to do something before he could.
âEveryoneâs outside,â You motioned towards the back, grabbing Oikawasâ attention from the pictures he couldnât help but to stare at.
âOh, okay. Letâs go then,â He gathered himself and accidentally tightened his hand on the flowers a bit too tight as he walked with you. When you both stepped outside onto the patio, he got a full view of your family, they were so picture perfect, like that kind family thatâs in the movies.
However, he was extra shocked, his jaw slacking basically on the ground when he saw Mattsun there.
âY/n, is Mattsun a part of your family?â He questioned, pointing at his teammate, knowing it was bad manners but did it anyway. That gathered Mattsukawaâs attention and came closer to talk to his team captain.
âHey Kawa, didnât know Iâd see you here. You missed practice, Iwaizumi was not happy.â Mattsun smirked, giving you a small side hug, something that you both always gave each other at these family reunions.
âYeah, yeah,â Oikawa rolled his eyes, âI was busy, why didnât you say anything about Y/n being a part of your family? Youâve listened to me talk about her for a while!â Oikawa groaned, embarrassed that he was actually whining to his friend who was kin to the girl he likes.
Mattsun chuckled, âI didnât think it was important, and she wouldâve told you if she wanted you to know, isnât that right?â He looked down at you, making you shimmy out of the side hug.
âGo play ball, I got to find my dad,â You motioned for Mattsun to leave and urged Oikawa to come with you, you swallowed harshly, the excitement that Oikawa was doing this for you never going away.
âThereâs my little girl!â Your dad exclaims as you walked towards him, he had on an apron with âbest cookâ written on it, it was his favorite to use at these reunions. That was mostly to get at his brotherâyour uncle, Mattsunâs dad.
âHi dad, I brought someone who wants to meet you.â You smiled, making way for Oikawa. You hoped he was being serious when he said he would do this the traditional way.
âHi sir, Iâm here because I like your daughter and wanted to know if I had your permission to take her on a date?â He swiftly said, handing your father the flowers, glad that the only sign of nervousness was his sweaty palms that he wiped on his school uniform pants.
âAhh, my wife will love these, thank you. Youâre the one who's been bugging my little girl haven't you? Go ahead, itâs okay.â Your dad chuckled, ruffling your hair, he loved to see that his kidânot accepting that youâre almost an adult within a few yearsâwas happy.
âThank you, sir.â Oikawa smiled brightly, a twinkle in his eyes, and thatâs when you saw the little rosiness on his cheeks, he fancied you so much, you realized.
Oikawa then spent the next fifteen minutes speaking with your family, getting to know them, especially your momânot Mattsun though.
After that, he had asked your mom where you went, âOh, Y/nâs probably in her room, go see if sheâs okay for me.â Your mom winked at him as he waved and went inside.
Once Oikawa finally figured out which room was yours, he gently knocked and went in when a small âcome inâ was heard.
âHi Y/n,â He smiled softly, enjoying to see this side of you, hoping that since heâs done this the traditional way, youâd finally take him more seriously. He watched your form put your book down, your window was open, you liked listening to your family, but enjoyed also being by yourself.
To his surprise, you gave him a wide smile, âHi Tooru,â You said, effectively making his heart skip a beat in response.
Oikawa knew that you were worth the wait to figure out.
a/n: soft oikawa pining for reader jus does smth for me, i hope you like it!! <33 & requests are open!

THEY HELP YOU BABYSIT (FT. OIKAWA TĆRU, SUGAWARA KĆSHI, KAGEYAMA TOBIO, AKAASHI KEIJI)
oikawa tĆru
word count: 410
âare you sure you know how to babysit, tĆru?â you ask suspiciously. âthis isnât going to be like babysitting takeru. she doesnât know you like she knows me.â you had babysat for your neighbors multiple times before--their six year old was the cutest little girl--but oikawa had never met her, and for some reason you had a sinking feeling that he wouldnât be the best babysitter.
âof course!â he assures you. âtakeru says iâm the best babysitter heâs ever had. iâm practically a professional.â
~
âtakeru always goes to sleep when i tell him to,â oikawa mutters.
you sigh, rubbing your temples. oikawa had spent the last fifteen minutes insisting he could get the little girl--akari--to fall asleep. out of curiosity and amusement, you decided to let him try.
his efforts had been wholly futile.
âtĆru, let me do it,â you begin. he had originally tried singing akari to sleep, but he was wildly out of tune and actually started annoying her. that, paired with the fact that you always read akari her favorite story before bed, has resulted in a very unhappy six year old. now youâre starting to see the telltale signs of a meltdown--quivering lower lip, crossed arms, whiny tone of voice.
he huffs, pouting. âi thought bedtime was supposed to be quiet time,â he insists, as you push him out of the chair and onto the ground.
you clamp a hand over his mouth before he can say anything more. you sit down on the chair yourself, next to the bed. âhey, sweetie,â you say to akari. âhow about a bedtime story?â
she perks up immediately. âbeauty and the beast?â itâs her favorite one, partly due to all the colorful illustrations in the book, and partly because belle is pretty.
you grin. âyou remember which part weâre on?â
within minutes, you have her quiet and sleepy. you end the story and close the book softly. oikawa is also quieting down. heâs sitting on the floor, resting his head in your lap and arms wrapped around your waist.
â[y/n]?â akari asks suddenly.
you brush some hair out of her eyes and smile at her. âwhat is it?â
âis this your boyfriend?â she asks curiously. she looks at oikawa, scrunching up her face. âyouâre too cool for him. heâs an idiot. you should date my friend instead. heâs way cooler.â
oikawaâs jaw drops open. âso rude!â he whines.
great. now you have two children to take care of.
sugawara kĆshi
word count: 789
âis it normal for him to climb the curtains?â suga frowns a little, studying the screaming toddler whoâs clinging onto the window drapes.
âyeah,â you say. you had been at your witâs end for the last thirty minutes, finally deciding to call your boyfriend for help dealing with your little cousin. suga is an only child like you, but with his personality you expect him to be great with kids. ânormally i just wait him out, but iâm worried heâll fall and hurt himself.â
he nods thoughtfully. ânot a bad idea in this state. when kids get really upset, they can become physically inconsolable.â
âhow do you know that?â you ask, surprised.
he shakes his head and chuckles. âremember what i want to do in the future? iâve taken so many classes on early childhood and developmental psychology. . .â
~
whatever information heâs learned from those classes, it must have worked. suga asked your cousin why he was so upset--he had a paper cut--and promptly gave him a bandaid. now your cousin is sitting happily at the kitchen table, kicking his feet as he eats the mac and cheese you microwaved. you and suga were originally going to sit with him at the kitchen table, but he wanted independence, so youâve been banished to the living room couch. at least you can still keep an eye on him this way.
you shake your head. âi donât know how you do it. with how heâs acting, we might be able to get him into bed and asleep by seven. he normally doesnât calm down until an hour after that.â
âkids get upset for a lot of reasons,â suga says. âand younger kids cry because they donât know the words to express why theyâre upset. itâs important to understand their feelings and empathize with them. the more you know about their situation, the more effectively you can deal with it.â
you nod in understanding. you realized pretty early on that you donât have the patience to babysit your cousin by yourself. but suga is so gentle and patient with him, and he makes it look so easy. âhey, heâs almost done,â you say. âheâs usually pretty calm after dinner. i can get him to work on some coloring pages or a puzzle.â
suga nods approvingly. âgood things to be doing,â he agrees. âiâll wash the bowl if you get him started on that.â
you hug him. âwhat would i do without you?â
"die,â he says honestly. you roll your eyes, but donât move away when he hugs you back and kisses your head.
your cousin can be extremely loud and obnoxious--youâve never seen another kid climb the curtains like an actual cat before--but when heâs calm, heâs actually pretty good. heâs laying on the living room floor, calmly coloring some drawings you had made for him. heâs picking clashy colors and scribbling outside the lines, but he looks happy with himself, so you donât have a problem with it.
suga comes into the living room with a mug full of warm milk. âyou should drink this before bed,â he says to your cousin, and despite the fact that you have never successfully given him milk before, he drinks it without a peep.
you shake your head. âhe likes you better than me,â you say. âyouâll make a great teacher, kĆshi. kids love you.â
he smiles at this, but you see a proud little blush on his face. âcan you help me get him to bed?â you ask, as he sits on the ground next to you.
he drums his fists on your back. âi think youâve got this. he is your cousin.â
so you try to convince your cousin to go to bed. at first he doesnât agree, and youâre starting to worry heâll freak out and climb the curtains again, but then you remember some advice suga had given you. you offer a bedtime story, he asks for a simple story about a dump truck, and then youâve convinced him to go brush his teeth.
bedtime is a breeze after that; he falls asleep soon after the story. you turn on the fan to circulate the air, leave the door cracked open with the hallway light on, and head back to the living room, where suga is calmly reading a book.
âheâs asleep!â you whisper-cheer, a big smile on your face. a quick look at the clock tells you itâs only seven fifteen--a record.
âthere you go! proud of you.â suga gives you a quick peck on the lips. âiâll make dinner. what do you want?â
you run a hand through your hair and shake your head. âwhat would i do without you?â
âdie,â he says smoothly.
ârude.â
heâs not wrong though.
kageyama tobio
word count: 562
âwhy is there applesauce on the ceiling?â
âshe likes to fling it,â you respond.
kageyama frowns a bit. âand she does this often?â
âany time i take my eyes off of her,â you respond. âdo you think you could distract her for a bit while i scrape it off?â
youâve been babysitting this little girl--who is barely four years old--for almost a year at this point. you had invited your boyfriend, kageyama, to come visit you after his volleyball practice. to be honest, you liked to see him suffer just a bit, and the bewildered look on his face right now is completely worth the applesauce on the ceiling.
kageyama frowns. âhow do i do that?â
you shrug. âiâm sure you can come up with something. sheâs easily entertained.â you pull out a chair and get a spoon and a bowl.
he stares at the toddler, before stepping closer to her. âdo you like to play volleyball?â he asks bluntly.
you stifle a laugh and take out your camera, taking a quick picture of the two. the camera prints the photo out, and you slip it into your pocket to save for later.
the toddler looks up to see him towering over her and bursts into tears. kageyamaâs face scrunches up a little in confusion. he reaches his hand out like he wants to touch her, but hesitates at the last second. âget eye level with her,â you suggest. âso you donât intimidate her as much.â
he takes your suggestion, bending over and resting his hands on his knees. âvolleyball?â he repeats.
you shake your head and get onto the chair, scraping some of the applesauce off the ceiling and into the bowl. one problem at a time, you think to yourself. at least if sheâs still crying it means he hasnât accidentally killed her.
and then sheâs not crying anymore. the silence strikes you as deafening. you jump off the chair and set the bowl of applesauce on the counter, staring in shock and horror at the empty chair where she had been sitting barely a minute ago. youâre alone in the kitchen.
then you hear laughter coming from the living room. curiously, you walk toward the sound.
kageyama is laying on the floor, calmly setting a volleyball to himself. plopped on the floor next to him, giggling and clapping happily, is the little girl. you doubt kageyama is even aware of her, but sheâs fascinated by the volleyball going up and down in the air.
you sigh, shaking your head to yourself. thatâs your boyfriend, unintentionally inspiring new volleyball players everywhere he goes because heâs too cool. you head back into the kitchen and clean up the rest of the applesauce.
the sight you set your eyes on upon reentering the living room is part hilarious, part awkward, and all wholesome. kageyama is sitting on the floor, eyebrows creased in confusion with the toddler in his lap. she tries to climb on him like a koala as he stays completely still. you quickly snap a picture of flustered kageyama, the toddler settled in his lap as she reaches up to pull at his hair. his face is pink, lips pushed into a subconscious pout as he holds her, unsure exactly of what to do.
the camera prints the photo. you take it and hold it up to the light.
cute.
akaashi keiji
word count: 556
âplease stop putting spaghetti in your hair.â akaashi frowns as your little brother drapes long strands of pasta on his head, laughing wildly as he does so.
you fight back a smile. youâve been wanting to see serious, calm akaashi with your brother for the longest time, so you offered to host a study date at your house as long as he agreed to help you babysit your brother. needless to say, he had agreed immediately, and now here you are.
âharuto,â akaashi says sternly. âiâve asked you to stop doing that three times now. iâm going to count to three. if you donât stop putting your food in your hair, youâre getting a timeout.â
whoa. how does akaashi know how to deal with your brother? it had taken you weeks to figure out that haruto understood actions, not words. timeouts and proper consequences were pretty much the only way to get him under control.
haruto obeys akaashi once he counts to two. akaashi thanks him for stopping and offers a trip to the playground to burn off some steam, to which your bother excitedly agrees. akaashi plays a game of i spy with haruto while he puts sunscreen on him. you donât have to do anything as you walk to the playground together. akaashi quietly stands by the slide, watching your brother as he runs around the jungle gym. he agrees to push haruto on the swings and even offers to push you as well. (you agree happily, excited to be the one being pushed for once, which hasnât happened since you were ten.) when itâs time to go, akaashi gives haruto a five-minute warning, and then a three-minute warning, and then a ten-push countdown. and your brother, who usually throws a fit when he has to leave the playground, agrees more smoothly than youâve ever seen.
all in all, the day passes by extremely smoothly. when you get home, akaashi makes dinner--you didnât even know he knew how to cook--and helps haruto with his shower. he gets haruto into bed and fast asleep by nine. throughout all of this, you only have to step in a couple of times, and you can tell by the smile on your brotherâs face that akaashi has been a huge hit.
after haruto is asleep, you two settle down on the living room couch together. you brew some of akaashiâs favorite tea for him, and you finally have the chance to do some homework together. âi hope you donât mind that haruto had so much energy,â you say. âi know you wanted to study.â
he shrugs. âi didnât mind. heâs a pretty good kid. and i know this was just a test to see how well i would get along with him. so . . . howâd i do?â
you chuckle, surprised he saw through you. âiâm impressed, keiji,â you say truthfully. âharuto can be pretty wild. i didnât expect him to listen to you that well. you did good.â
âdid i?â he fidgets with his fingers. âi was worried he wouldnât like me. last night i read a bunch of articles about how to interact with kids. i donât have siblings, so i was worried heâd think i was mean, or not cool, or--â
âkeiji.â you take his hands in yours and kiss him on the cheek. âyou were perfect.â
A/N: inspired by @saraswritingtipps, did some research and got information from the awesome @chloiyoomi (i've never babysat before so i needed help lol)
i don't know how much i like this tbh, i love the idea but because i have no babysitting experience i feel like it still came out a bit weird
shoutout to all the babysitters out there, you don't get enough appreciation đȘ

[4:38 PM] Oikawa Toru [9]
I'm 89% sure the next part will be the last. This chapter is filled with heavy angst but comfort and understanding.
Warning: implied mild smut, angst & comfort but cliffhanging ending
Eighth part Tenth part
.
Toru glared at the new wall that had been replaced between his and Y/nâs unit. He acknowledges his disdain for it. He detested both the physical and emotional distance that had arisen between him and Y/n.
Within a day, maintenance repaired the wall between their units, putting this unbearable space between them.
In the blink of an eye, everything changed, or more like in a heartbeat, everything changed for him and Y/n.
His heart has been numb since the moment Y/n announced she was pregnant and felt like it had stopped beating when she said the baby may not be his.
Everything became a blur at that moment.
âP â plea â se le â leave⊠I need sp â spaceâŠâ she struggled with her stuttering and hiccups from her cries.
Toru was reluctant to leave her alone but to his best judgment, he needed some time to process what she just told him.
How had he not realized the changes? Especially when he had first-hand experience with Lucia when she became pregnant with Mateo.
As he recalled the brushed memories⊠it all began to piece together.
âDonât â donât suck too hardâŠâ Y/n whimpered, blushing from watching Toru and feeling the suction he had on her sensitive nipple.
Another time when he was buried deep inside her, Y/n cried with tears pooling in her eyes. âYou feel⊠you feel so deepâŠâ Â
Toru immediately stopped his movements and caressed her cheek, âam I hurting you?â Â He wiped her tears away and only smiled when she shook her head, telling him he made her feel good.
These were tell-tale signs he remembered going through with Lucia.
It had been 48 hours since he last saw her but it felt like an eternity.
She has not returned his seven missed calls nor the numerous text messages. He knows he should respect her space but he couldnât help but feel the distance between them is only pushing them further and further apart.
For an hour, Toru and Mateo hung out in Mateoâs large playpen together. The baby kept himself occupied with the toys Y/n had purchased him and Toru could only wonder what was running through his sonâs mind.
Did he miss Y/n too?
It was two short nights but Toru spent every second of it going over the scenario.
Y/n was pregnant.
There was a probability that the baby could not be his.
That meant⊠it was that man that had visited her weeks ago?
âWoojin?â the name fell off his lips Â
All he could remember from that first and last encounter was that this person was tall like him, a slightly smaller physique but he and this man had the same dark hair and body complexion.
Toru couldnât help but feel jealous of this Woojin person. Who was he to Y/n and what was their relationship? How long have they known each other?
All questions attacked him and he groaned, making Mateo look at him confused.
âI miss Y/n,â he told Mateo, who instantly perked up at the sound of her name. âYou miss her too?â His son stared at him as if waiting for her to appear. âShould we go see her on the other side?â He picked up his son and together they headed towards the door.
The moment his door swung open, Toruâs eyes widened seeing Y/n leaving her unit as well.
With a suitcase beside her.
Y/n called his name softly, yet he heard the sadness and pain in her tone.
âAre you⊠going somewhere?â He shifted Mateo in his arms, who was squirming at the sight of Y/n.
He sensed the hesitancy as she quickly shut the door to her unit before letting out a deep breath. She approached him with her luggage left by her door.
âWhere⊠are you going?â The question weighed heavily on him, as difficult to utter as it was to bear. His heart throbbed with discomfort, reluctant to confront the truth.
âIâm â Iâm going to Ko⊠rea⊠to Korea for a few days,â Y/n answered, looking at him directly in the eye. She hesitated but reached for his free hand, holding it gently. âI will be back, I promise.â Y/n gazes into his eyes, âIâll come back to you, I will come back to you.â
Toru untangled his hand from hers and drew her into an embrace, murmuring, âwhat is the reason?â
Despite knowing the reason, he understood the rationale behind it and knew that it would only inflict pain upon himself by asking, but he felt compelled to inquire regardless.
Her arms wrapped around his waist, and he felt her fist a handful of his shirt. âI should â I should tell him.â
Toru clenched his eyes tightly shut. He anticipated it, and braced himself for it, yet why did it sting even more?
âI understand,â he sighed, pressing his lips to the top of her head. âOkay, have a safe flight and please come back to me.â
âI will,â she pressed her lips over his heart.
.
Mateo slept soundlessly in Toruâs arm for his afternoon nap. Their large living room seemed larger and too quiet than usual. Even for a short period, his living room was filled with Y/nâs laughter, her singing to the wrong lyrics of Mateoâs lullabies. It felt so lively and filled with lots of comfort that warmed his heart.
After ensuring Mateo wouldnât wake up, Toru laid him in his crib. He reached for Y/nâs wool cardigan that had been in his crib and placed it beside the sleeping baby who found comfort in it.
He closed the door to Mateoâs nursery and turned on his baby monitor. Toru was about to help himself to a cup of tea to calm his nerves when he heard something strange outside his unit.
If Y/n was on her way to the airport, who would be outside?
Without looking at the camera that pointed out to the lobby shared between him and Y/n, he pushed the door open and was ready to confront whoever it was but froze halfway.
Y/n looks up, startled and half crouching. Her luggage was lying flat on the ground as if it slipped from her hand.
âY/n?â He blinked a couple of times, even rubbing his eyes with the back of his hands to make sure he was truly seeing her and that she was not just a hallucination. Over an hour ago he had made a tough decision to let her go, how was she⊠âArenât you supposed to be at the airport? Or on the plane to Korea?â
He walked towards her when Y/n quickly stood up and closed the distance between them, throwing herself at him, and wrapping her legs and arms around him.
Toru caught her, his arms naturally wrapping around her and supporting her weight. He sighed and hugged her tightly.
âI couldnât do it,â Y/n finally whispered, she leaned back to look into his eyes. She quickly explained how she sat at the gates contemplating the situation and made the decision not to get on the plane. âI couldnât go through it. Woojin deserves to know but I think Iâm being too impulsive right now.â She cupped his face and pressed her lips against his. âI should have talked to you, figure this out together⊠thatâs if you⊠want to figure it out together.â
âI do,â he confirmed quickly. One of his hands snaked behind her head, bringing it down to his. âI want to figure this out with you.â
Y/n brushed her nose against his, âI love you. I love you so much Oikawa Toru.â
Toru sighed, and a soft grunt came from his throat. âI love you too, Y/l/n Y/f/n.â Without putting her down, he walked over to pick up her luggage and towed it behind them into his unit.
.
They lay in the middle of Mateoâs large playpen.
âI want to get a paternity DNA test done.â
Toru rolled onto this side and supported his weight on his elbow. âOkay, I think thatâs a good start too. Should we start with me?â
Y/n looked at him confused, âyou?â
Toru nodded, a hand reaching out to palm her flat belly. He couldnât voice how badly he wished and hoped that the baby that was nourishing inside Y/nâs body was his.
It never crossed his mind that he would want another child after Mateo, heâll be honest that he didnât want any more children and would be content with just Mateo. But since his rekindling with Y/n and the current situation, would he be so bold and willing to help her raise a child that was not his own?
âTo rule it out,â he answered quietly, âitâs a small possibility⊠but Iâm willing to hold my breath that this child could be mine.â He reached to touch her hair, âif itâs my baby then you wouldnât have to bother talking to Woojin.â
Y/n sat up and motioned for him to sit up and as soon as he was upward, Y/n crawled on his lap and hugged him.
âToru,â she uttered his name quietly under her breath, âI need to â need to knowâŠâ she paused to take a deep breath, âwill â will you still want to be with me⊠if â if this child is not â not yours?â
No matter how many different scenarios he thought in his head, the one that weighed heavily on him was the high possibility that this child was not his. He asked himself if he would be able to raise a child that was not his own and the answer was yes, he would be able to raise another child that was not his.
If it was Y/n, who was also willing to love another child that wasnât her own, Toru could also love a child that was not his own by blood.
Toru pulled away enough to see her face, he waited until she finally looked into his eyes and he smiled. âYes, I will still want you even if this child is not mine. I will love them just as if they were my own.â
Y/n smiled, her shoulders relaxing as if his response had blown all the anxiety that burdened her. âI was scared you wouldnât want toâŠâ
A lingering, unidentified fear gnawed at him, compelling him to seek answers.
âIfâŠâ he took a deep breath. âIf this child is not mine and is⊠his⊠what â what will you do?â
Please donât say youâll go back to him, he repeated over in his head.
âWoojin and I have agreed to go our ways a few weeks back and I have contemplated on either telling him or not.â Her face bore the unmistakable mark of guilt. âIf this child is his, I know I should not keep it away from Woojin.â
âNo, you should not,â Toru concurred, though inwardly he wished she wouldnât have to confront that man. Yet, he acknowledged that Woojin deserved to be informed about the pregnancy and the child; he deserved to be included in the journey even if he and Y/n had no preexisting relationship. âI encourage you to tell him. If he decides not to be involved in the babyâs life, then thatâs his decision. Youâve given him a choice.â
Toru would have been at a loss if Lucia had concealed her pregnancy and the existence of Mateo from him. Despite the life-altering revelation, being a father to Mateo brings Toru immense pride and joy, and he wouldnât have it any other way. He has no desire to return to his life before Mateo came into it. Â Â
Y/n pressed her forehead against his. âIf this child is Woojinâs, then we will have to figure out how to co-parent but itâll be a bridge weâll cross when we get there.â
The weighty burden he had carried for the past few hours finally lifted. âBut regardless of what decision he chooses, I will be beside you.â
Y/n leaned to press her lips to his forehead, âI donât deserve you.â
âYou deserve me because I deserve you. We deserve each other.â
.
Three weeks later, Y/n was scheduled for the testing.
Toru squeezed her hand, assuring her that everything would be okay. âThe nurse said many have gone through this test and there is nothing to worry about, no risk to you or the baby.â
Y/n nodded, squeezing his hand tightly. âWeâll be okay.â
Sometime after they were separated, they reunited again. The same nurse who took Y/n away brought her back. As if sensing Toruâs presence, she looked up and smiled tiredly while sitting in a wheelchair. She reached a hand out to him, which he took and squeezed it lightly.
âAre you okay?â
She nodded, âletâs go home.â
.
Toru gently pulled the covers up to her chin and carefully got off the bed without disturbing her.
Y/n groans, curling up into a fetal at the loss of his warmth. Once they reached home, she began experiencing cramping shortly after they got home. They were informed that cramping and light spotting was expected and normal. Toru wanted her to stay with him at his unit so he could monitor her.
He swallowed hard, despising the sensation of helplessness and his inability to alleviate her pain. Plating a gentle and light kiss on her forehead, he allowed her to rest while he stepped away to make a brief phone call to his mom to check on Mateo.
âHey mom,â he greeted quietly over the phone, âhow is Teo?â
When Toru and Y/n had dropped him off with his grandma, Mateo displayed signs of distress. He appeared apprehensive in the unfamiliar surroundings, clinging tightly to Toru. When his grandma attempted to reach for him, Mateo recoiled, refusing to go to her â a behavior that shocked both Toru and Y/n, as he had never exhibited hostility before.
They had to ease him in and get him comfortable before leaving him for a few hours.
âTeo is just like you. The moment you and Y/n disappeared and he noticed it, he looked everywhere for you two.â His mom explained, âyou were just like that when you were a baby. But how is Y/n? Is she okay?â
âYeah, sheâs okay, she is resting,â he felt slightly guilty for not telling the truth to his mom about Y/nâs appointment, only saying she was not feeling good and he was going to take her in. âIâll be there soon to pick up ââ Toru loses the rest of his words as he turns his head towards his unit door. âMom, Iâll call you back in a second.â
Walking towards his door, he pressed the button to turn on the camera outside his unit.
His eyes narrowed when he saw someone standing at Y/nâs door, ringing her doorbell and knocking repeatedly on her door.
âY/n!â
Opening the door, he faces the man head-on. âCan I help you?â
Woojin wiped around, his disheveled hair and ruffled clothing told Toru something didnât feel right.
âY/n, where is she?â
Stepping out and closing his door behind him, Toru stood tall, âshe is resting.â
Woojin marched across the lobby and grabbed Toru by his collar. âYou bastard, is she in there with you?â
Toru emitted a bitter chuckle, âit is none of your business if she is with me, you guys are nothing.â
Woojin shoved Toru against his door, growling, âit is my business when she is my woman and carrying my child.â
Toruâs smile dimmed as his eyes narrowed, and then he shoved him away. âLeave before I have security kick you off the premises and banned.â
Running a hand through his messy hair, Woojin chuckled coldly. âYou know it too, is that right?â His silence confirms his assumption. âI will not back down â â
âToru?â
The two men turned their heads as the door slowly opened revealing a pale Y/n who gripped her abdomen. âToru?â Her voice shook, âsome â something doesnât feel rightâŠâ her legs trembled as she looked down at her feet, her white ankle socks soaked with redness.
. . .

back to it â tooru oikawa x reader
a/n: woah hey guys !!! 2 years late heres an oikawa drabble wk: 1.5k reader bumps into competition at a volleyball meet. fluff. oikawa being a brat
the karasuno boys volleyball team pressed through the entrance doors to the unfamiliar high school, eyes gleaming with curiosity as they observed their new environment. the halls were stuffed with parents and friends waiting to support their players, sporting the jerseys of different schools. the line for the concession stand wrapped around the corner.
hinata was a few paces ahead, his head on a swivel as he passed all the playersâ much taller than him. his eyes gravitated to a particularly tall first-year, he was so fixated on looking behind him to realize he was running directly into someone.
âwhatâ? oh my god! i am so sorry! iâm sorry, please forgive me! i wasnât paying attention,â hinata stumbled backward and fell into a respectful bow, his anxiety swelling in his stomach as he clenched his eyes shut.
you looked over your shoulder at him, barely registering that heâd run into you by the time heâd finished his ramblings. you couldnât help but laugh at his overreaction, brushing it off with a shrug and turning to face him.
he shot his head up at the sound of your light giggles, somehow more relieved, as well as mortified. he was paling with fear, taking a small step back and running into the chest of his captain, who laid a solid hand on his shoulder. hinata felt helpless, jaw agape as he made himself smaller and smaller between you and daichi.
he recognized the colors on your jersey, white with deep green lettering that matched the shade of your shorts. there was a volleyball tucked beneath your left arm and your fingers were taped together. hinata peeked behind you, where the rest of your team congregated at the water fountain to refill their bottles. there were duffel bags and knee pads scattered on the floor.
âyouâreâ youâre the iron wall!â hinata pointed with a shaking finger.
âhinata! itâs rude to point,â daichi removed his clasp on the redheadâs shoulder to slap away hinataâs hand. ây/n, i am so sorry about him. heâs one of our first years, he gets overwhelmed pretty easily.â
you laughed, shaking your head. âitâs alright. itâs good to see you, daichi.â
daichi moved hinata to the side so he wasnât between you anymore, but the first-year still observed with wide eyes. you shook hands and, unfortunately for daichi, he couldnât hide the way his cheeks flushed.
kageyama narrowed his eyes as you continued talking to his captain. there was something eerily familiar about you, something wrong. maybe it was because most volleyball players he met ended up being competition, but your friendliness threw him off. and he certainly didnât like the way daichi was enamored with you. âdaichi knows her?â
leaning into his teammate, sugawara answered, âthey went to middle school together, or something, i think. sheâs captain of the girls volleyball team and took them to nationals last year.â
but why were you so familiar to him?
despite how genuine you were, there was a cunning glint in your eye, subtle to his teammates and their lackluster observational skills. from behind him, he could practically hear tanaka and nishinoya reel their tongues back in after catching flies.
âyou went to nationals!?â hinata interjected with an admiring gasp. his eyes seemed to sparkle at the mention of the competition.
âsure did,â you winked at him. he could melt right into his shoes.
daichi laughed heartily. âoh, yeah. itâs incredible to watch her play. donât let her trick you, though. her mind games on the court are pure evil.â
âcâmon, daichi! donât give it away, itâs more fun when they find out on their own.â
if it wasnât for the buzz of conversation filling the hallway, you would have heard him comingâ the fe, fi, fo, fum of his 6â0â stature. he was parading himself through the hallway in his freshly steamed volleyball uniform, so far unscathed from his morning practice. if only you could see him behind you, a narrowed expression of concentration and mischief, his eyes on the prize.
suddenly, it seemed as if the karasuno boys had spotted a ghost. fear struck daichiâs eyes and his words died in his throat, and your face contorted in confusion.
ây/n! itâs lovely to see you here.âÂ
oh, there he is.
oikawa had sauntered up behind you, towering over your figure with a smug grin. he was as ecstatic as ever, eyes squinted with the generous smile that took over his face. it was a regular habit of his to mask his disdain with glee, one of the many things that made him unsettling to be around.
you did your best to contain your excitement but lost the fight against the corners of your lips curling upward. he was insufferable. your stomach turned and you straightened up, relaxing your expression as you turned to face the seijoh player. from behind you, daichi let out a noise that resembled uncertainty, but wasnât strong enough to use his voice.
âoikawa,â you greeted with a thin smile.
âhow was your first game? i heard it was pretty quick.â
âhardly a warm-up,â you corrected. even if the karasuno boys couldnât spot the mischievous gleam in your eyes, it was clear you were ready to match his energy. it sent a chill down sugawaraâs spine. âpretty easy to win when your girl's volleyball team only serves as your fan club.â
tadashi gasped as if the comment was meant to slice him, and was quickly glared into silence by his peer. the team couldnât help but stay silent as they watched the showdown, the strife in you and oikawaâs eyes met in the middle like a clash of lightning, both of you trying your hardest to win the battle.
oikawaâs smile faltered for a millisecond, and your ego swelled as you waited for a rebuttal. âyouâre lucky to hold down the fort as the sole surviving third year on the team. has it gotten to you yet? reining in all those underclassmen by yourself?â he leaned closer, down to your level, and his voice dropped. âthey have pretty big shoes to fill if youâre gonna make it again.â
âh-hey!â hinata cut in. you and oikawa snapped your head in his direction, suddenly remembering he was there. âat least y/n has been to nationals! how can you call yourself the great king if you havenât even gotten that far?âÂ
there was a beat of silence. the redhead only met you minutes ago, hardly knew anything about you, but he would be damned if he let oikawa win. a smile slowly crept up your face, all the while oikawa was frozen in horrorâ possibly embarrassment if heâd ever admit to it.
you threw your head back in a bark of laughter, hugging the ball tighter against your side and resting a hand over your chest. it was hard to contain, and went on too long for oikawaâs liking. his ears were red, and he snapped out of his shock and faced you again with his nose scrunched.
âyou know, i donât call myself the great king!â oikawa cried, crossing his arms as he straightened upâ ever so dignified.
it was the same tone he used when iwaizumi called him out, kageyama recognized it from the countless arguments he witnessed in middle school. oikawaâs pride had been swept away by hinataâs comment. despite how insignificant he found the first year, he knew was right.
the tension in the air has completely dissolved, instead the air filled with a playful breeze as you bickered back and forth. it left the karasuno team dumbfounded and awkward, caught in between it all.
âoh, but you revel in it, donât you?â you said, almost in a purr as you grinned, narrowing your eyes and leaning closer to him.
oikawa stared you down, only lasting a few seconds until he whipped his head in the opposite direction in a poor attempt to hide his blush. you shook your head with a faint giggle yet again, relief washing over your body. it was silly to say you won the interaction, but you couldnât help but revel in the satisfaction of getting him to react like that.
but now, like every other time, you had to be the one to clean it up.
you dropped the volleyball on the bench beside you and wrapped a hand around his bicep. his shoulders relaxed, and you turned to the crows. âsorry about that, guys! i gotta go, but iâll see you after you win!â
ây/n! can you stop saying things like that?â oikawa huffed, his voice barely above a whisper as the two of you began to walk away. you cackled, and he slipped his hand into your own despite the steam coming off of him.
the karasuno team was left dumbfounded as they processed the events that unfolded in front of them. all but kageyama, who hummed with acknowledgment as the pieces started to click together. he slipped away to the nearby vending machine with the other first-years that had reeled in their shock (ie; tsukishima and tadashi) while leaving the upperclassmen to mend daichiâs morale. i wonât lie, man. that was a tough watch, said asahi.
as you rounded the corner you were greeted by iwaizumi at the end of the hall, his anger warping the air around him like a bonfire.Â
âoikawa! what the hell do you think youâre doing? stop messing around with your girlfriend and get your ass back in here!â
âwhy is everyone so mean today?â the setter whined.

summary: just when everyone thought that the flu-like virus which led to a global outbreak four years ago had finally settled down, a new variant struck that escalated rapidly and became out of control. with limited supplies and life at stake, you were left with no choice but to team up with your ex-boyfriend, oikawa tooru, to navigate and seek shelter.
keiya.speaks: this is an entry for @pixelcafe-network 's 2024 spooktober event đ
series masterlist | next part
You wished that all of this was just inside of your head.
You begged the ups that once you open your eyes, youâll be in your favorite figs scrub suit, caressing your Beckman Coulter DxH 900 hematology analyzer, praying that the reagents would be enough for your hospitalâs bed capacity as your laboratory supervisor forgot to place an order for this monthâs supplies.
Or maybe wooing your Cobas e601, hoping that your quality control would be in the range of the mean so you would be able to run all your chemistry specimens smoothly. Maybe when you finally open your eyes, youâll be back inside the laboratory, signing all your patientsâ results as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
However, when your eyelids unfolded and a baseball bat swung towards you that nearly grazed the tip of your nose, you were back in this stinking reality.
âI swear to fucking hell, Tooru, stop spinning the bat like that, you nearly hit me again!â you hissed, trying to avoid the piece of wood for the nth time. Your eyes caught a glimpse of the nip of skin that has been hanging around the bloody barbed wires wrapped around it for heavens knows how long and instantly, you felt your insides turning upside down, nearly throwing the acid of your stomach in disgust.Â
âAww, chibi-chan is annoyed, youâre too cute to be annoyed. You canât be annoyed at me, darling. Youâre stuck with me.â Tooru smiled, his eyes turning crescents while grabbing a few cans of easy-open tuna paella and throwing it into the creaky shopping cart.
Youâre back in this reality where everyone around you has turned into a living deadâbasically zombies. People might think that this is just a foolish tale told by someone like you however, it wasnât. When everyone thought that the Corona virus that set the world into a pandemic four years ago had ended, well it hasnât really ended that well yet.
A new variant mutated and current vaccines didnât work that much into protecting the people. Eventually. Everyone started getting sick again and the cases doubled, tripled, and continued proliferating like hell. Hospitals were full of patients with flu-like symptoms and quarantine was implemented once again. With the lack of research and scientific approach, never have you ever imagined that the simple flu virus that was once contained will mutate into something more damned, something more hellishâand that is taking over its hostâs nervous system and respiratory tract, owning it completely just like the mad cow and rabies disease. At this point, you didnât really understand it that much because thereâs a lot of factors and unknown elements. With that, the once feared virus has already taken over the world again but this time, much worse than the first one.
Two weeks since the virus has flipped Japan 360 degrees, 14 days of being stuck to survive with Oikawa Tooru, your ex-boyfriend.Â
Shit happens for real, right? But when that menace, caramel-eyed, 6 footer guy who dragged his best friend, Iwaizumi Hajime, into his shenanigans suddenly showed up in your workplace with a bouquet of flowers 3 years after your break-up, you felt your blood boiling as the last thing you wanted to see is his face.
And another shit happens is that the very same day he showed his arrogant face to you, thatâs also the day when the whole city went rabid and everyone suddenly started biting each other as the undead symptoms manifested in most of your emergency room patients. It was like a trigger that suddenly detonated, sending signals to all of the infected to attack.
Thatâs how you found yourself in an abandoned grocery, picking up some goods before you eventually hit the road to seek a temporary shelter while looking for a permanent one with your ex-boyfriend, whoâs now taking advantage of the life or death situation to get closer to you once more.
âPhew, looks like we got everything we needed.â
Your gaze shifted to the items inside the cart. Canned goods, instant meals, protein bars, biscuits, some snacks, bottled waters that could probably last up to a few days depending on the consumption, energy drinks, basic medicine and first aid, batteries, ropes, some toiletries and personal necessities, and a box of condoms.
Box of condoms?
âOikawa Tooru, you perverted sex animal!â you felt your face heating up despite the broken air conditioner kept on running, setting the whole area into freezing point.
Tooru was laughing his ass off as you picked up and threw the packets of rubber on his chest. He was bursting so much that he dramatically wiped his fake tears.
âWeâre in the middle of a fucking apocalypse and you still have the time to pull shitty pranks just like that!â you exclaimed, face puffing in vexation. âIf you donât have a goddamn thing to doââ
âGRRAAAGH!â
âFuck!â
A squeal leaped out of your mouth as you saw a flesh-rotting guy approaching Tooru from behind. It let out a deafening howl, echoing in the empty store. Its skin was pale, almost white with purple veins popping in its throat up to its face. The pieces of tissue that were decomposing and filled with maggots were falling into the floor, scattering everywhere. Eyes were bloodshot and scarlet red blood was pouring out of its mouth, approaching the both of you with speed. It can fucking run?!Â
In an instant, Tooru secured you behind his back and gripped on the batâs handle with force. As the raving undead approached, he swung the piece of wood with full strength, leaving a huge missing chunk on the manâs head as the muscle flew away due to the impact. Blood spurted out everywhere and you could see pieces of its brain being tangled in the barbed wires. It fell on the ground convulsing before becoming motionless, indicating that itâs already finally dead again.
âAre you okay, Y/N?â Tooruâs eyes landed on you, checking you from head to toe.
You were frozen in your place, still trying to comprehend what happened. It wasnât the first time that you were attacked yet you could still feel your insides being scrambled whenever youâre placed in the exact situation. You felt like youâll seriously never gonna get used to this scenario.
âY-yeah, Iâm alright. A-are you okay?â you questioned, meeting his brown orbs back. Tooru just laughed hysterically, pushing his hair back and settling the wood just above his shoulders.
âOf course! Itâs the grand king after all.â
Piece of shit. You thought. Heâs already 27 yet the silly nickname that he was given way back in his junior high volleyball days were still fixated on him. Heâs a serious menace.
âCâmon, Iwaâs probably wondering why the hell weâre taking too long. As much as I wanted to say that we took this precious time to make out, Iâd rather not.â he commented as he pushed the cart forward. You could see from his back how his gaze changed, sensing if thereâs still a threat around you.
When the both of you exited the store, you were greeted by your two companies.
âY/N! Are you alright?â Tobio hurriedly went towards you, examining your physical state. âWe heard the noise from outside. We're ready to barge in, you know?â
âOi. Iâm here. Why didnât you ask me too?â Tooru sniggered in annoyance as the black-haired man continued ignoring him as he was not existing at all. Of course, the former did not let it go and started a childish, rivalry eye to eye against each other.
It was just broken when Iwaizumi squeezed himself in between to check the items inside the cart.
âYou guys forgot my snickers, you fuckers.â his forehead creased when he did not catch a glimpse of his favorite chocolate bar that he clearly instructed earlier. You mentally slapped your head as you realized it just now.
âNow Iwa-chan, this is not the right time to freaking enjoy a chocolate bar.â
âShut the fuck up, you trash. Iâll stuff this cart into your mouth.â
âAnd I love you too, Iwa-chan!â
Both you and Tobio stood there with a facepalm on your faces as you watched the two best friends bicker with each other in the middle of goddamn ruins. Some people wouldn't be convinced that they have been friends since high school but they really are.
One of the few good things despite the catastrophe is that you somehow luckily ended up with the people youâve already known. When your workplace turned into madness, Tooru and Hajime managed to pull you away from the crowd of insanity to hide and ended up escaping together safely to the hospitalâs parking lot. However, little did the three of you know that thereâs also a few undead lurking there. You felt the numbness taking over your body as you recognized some of them as your colleaguesâYamaguchi Tadashi, a nurse on the 6th floor and Sugawara Koshi, a pediatric resident. They were moving mindlessly, drool dripping on their lips as they no longer recognized their own self.
Before Tooru could drag you away from it, a familiar Suzuki Jimny in solid kinetic yellow stopped in front of you. The door flew open, revealing Kageyama Tobio, a phlebotomist and your college friend, screaming to the three of you to get inside the car.
And thatâs how you ended up navigating the now ghost roads of Miyagi with these three. The first instinct is to drive to the government facilities in Tokyo to get help; however, it is nearly impossible to reach your destination when youâre unarmed, have no supplies, and do not know what terror lies ahead on those roads. Good thing is that thereâs still electricity and water, however, cellular phone signals and wifi are now down so you couldnât get any help through local authorities. With that, the three of you decided to stick with each other to gather and prepare everything you needed and move little by little at a time.
âMan, you seriously have horrible taste in color.â Tooru spoke to Tobio as he closed the door of his Suzuki Jimny, clearly provoking the younger one instead, all he received was a scoff, ignoring his remark.
âTooru, stop it.â you berated your ex-boyfriend and blew you a kiss instead that made your eye roll heavenly.
In no time, youâre back on the road with Hajime driving, Tobio on the passenger seat, leaving you and Tooru in the backseat. Your itinerary for today is to find a house to stay in for a few days before finally driving out of Miyagi for good since the last house you went to got infested with undead.
Every night, you get nightmares from the images of the undead. Whenever you dream about it, itâs always detailed to the point that you could smell the malodorous odor of the rotting bodies. The terrifying screams were also echoing in your eardrums that sometimes sent a strike of headache on your head. But sometimes, you also dream about your life before all of this happens. Your happy life whom youâve worked hard to achieve. Somehow, you managed to pull yourself together otherwise, youâll lose your sanity and even worse, become one of the undead. However, you really donât know how long you could still hold yourself in one piece.
âA penny for your thoughts?â Tooru managed to tickle your sides as your mind was hastily floating in cloud nine. You turned to him and saw his soft gaze locking on you. You noticed how his hazel hair that matched the color of his eyes is now cropped into a shorter one compared to its length when you were still dating him three years ago. Heâs also wearing a graded specs now whom you did not recall him having one before. His pointed nose and chiseled jaw are now more prominent due to the weight and baby fats he lost. Arms and body became more muscular, skin got a little tanner than usual probably because of his training in Argentina as a professional volleyball player.
Tooruâs really handsome. Heâs got the type of attractiveness where youâll look over your shoulders to glimpse at him once again whenever he passes by. Despite his childish personality, heâs really kind and a gentleman that made him easy to penetrate inside the heart of his crowd. Heâs got the aura wherein he can bring the best out of you when youâre with him. He's like the daylight youâll see when you reach the end of the night sky.
Your relationship with him was stable. You fight but all the arguments are talked and reflected thoroughly. He always gives you whatever you want and need. Handles your tantrums very well and does not hold grudges against you or anyone else. He makes sure that he can show and make you feel all the love languages he could ever think of. Heâs the best boyfriend and best friend youâve ever had. It was so strangely stable to the point that you thought that heïżœïżœïżœs the one youâll marry. However, when he accidentally left his phone in your apartment and you caught a glimpse of a contact with a picture of a girl asking if he had fun last night with her on his text messages, your dream of marrying him and being each otherâs end game shattered.
He tried calling and chasing you for almost a week after that but you didnât give him a chance to explain, knowing that only bullshit will come out of his mouth after he blatantly cheated on you just like that. After that, the only news you heard about him is that heâs flying to Argentina to turn his dreams into reality of becoming a professional volleyball player. He never tried contacting you again after that, not even once.
Three years later, he finally achieved his dreams as heâs all over the news as the best setter CA San Juan has ever had and now heâs suddenly back as if nothing happened between the two of you, alive and kicking.Â
âNothing, just tired.â you lied, not having any energy left to converse with him. You felt a calloused, warm hand placed above your left elbow, thumb caressing your skin. Your eyes flew and saw Tooruâs bruised and wounded hand attempting to soothe yours. âWhat the hellââ
âItâll be alright, Y/N. I promise you. Weâll get through this, just like we always have.â he left out a soft yet reassuring smile before releasing your arm. You donât know why but you felt like a hope ignited inside you. A sense of solace hit as you felt that Tooru never once had second thoughts in you.Â
You find yourself erupting a small smile. Thereâs indeed hope despite the darkest times.
Standing in front of a 2-storey modern house, you clutched your baseball bat as you prepared yourself for a possible undead atack. It wasnât that big but itâs enough for a family of three to live in. The exterior has a monochrome color palette with wooden doors and tinted glass windows that reflect your worn out states. It also has a balcony that has a few clothes hanging on the railing.
âDo you think itâs safe?â Hajime looked up at the towering building.
âI hope so.â Tobio answered, leading towards the door.
Slowly, Tobio twisted the automated door knob that surprisingly opened without any difficulty. The four of you exchanged looks, swallowing the balling lump in your throats as you set a foot inside the house. You were greeted by an eerie silence upon entering the abandoned house. It was decorated with lavish interiors and monochromatic palette, matching with the exteriors. The floor is made with oak wood and the walls are marble that added extra fire to the aesthetics. The second floor has a bathroom, one master bedroom, a guest room with two beds and a balcony that faces the streets. Overall, itâs a nice house and seems like the owner is well-off based on their residence.
Hajime and Tooru checked the second floor and found nothing but a few pieces of clothes that seemingly belonged to a man. However, inside the closet of the master bedroom, they found a leather bag of guns, ammunition and a copy of the firearmâs registration. You were not knowledgeable that much in firearms but you immediately recognized AK-47, M16, and the famous Smith & Wesson Model 27 that you once saw in the anime Banana Fish.
âDamn, so those really exist in real life.â Tooru made an exaggerated comment as the weapons were carefully being laid in the long coffee table by Tobio.
âWeâre already in an apocalypse, you shithead. Guns like these are more realistic than this fucking hell situation.â Hajime retorted, blood is always boiling at his best friendâs idiocratic remarks.
âLetâs just keep these in one place and take it once weâre moving away. For now, letâs stick with our current weapons so we can utilize everything at once.â you proposed, earning quick nods from the boys.
âAh, my darling is so clever! Come and give me a hug.â attempting to cage you in his chest, you quickly dodged your ex-boyfriend's arms and pointed the baseball bat a few inches away from his face.
âDonât you dare touch me, Oikawa.â
âWhy? You loved my touches. You were begging for my touchââ
âShut it!â
You shused him by swiftly covering his mouth with your right hand. You could feel his lips twitching against your touch, eyes forming a curve as he smiled infuriatingly.
âLove birds, take your business upstairs. Me and Tobio will share the guest room, the two of you in the master bedroom so you can make peace with your demons. Donât think of bitching up because I ainât taking any shit today.â Hajime firmly said before grabbing the weapons one by one to store them in the small compartment under the coffee table. You felt your face being flushed with much embarrassment as the two guys witnessed your bantering. Tobio was about to appeal but he met the death stare of Hajime, making him pursed his lips.
You couldnât even remember the last time you shared a room with your ex-boyfriend. The whole 14 days with him, you either get your own space or share a room with all of them. That's why your vital organ is now leaping so hard that it might jump out of your ribcage.
After arranging and dividing the supplies so that it can last for a few days, the four of you improvised a barricade on the door and covered the window so that you wouldnât see the streets outside that holds a few abandoned cars, splurt of blood on the road, decomposing human pieces, and some bodies that are unrecognizable.
Seeing the first-aid kit that you grabbed earlier in the kitchen counter, the memory of Tooruâs wounded and bruised hand suddenly flashed in your mind. Without a second thought, you found yourself getting ice from the functional freezer and wrapping it in a clean cloth before wetting the piece of fabric so that the cold temperature could easily penetrate. In no time, you were now standing in front of the masterâs bedroom, slowly peeking to see if Tooruâs awake.
You saw him sitting on the edge of the bed that is facing the door, clutching a polaroid film in his hand. His face is blank yet a void of sadness was swarming in his brown eyes as he sighed and kept the picture back in his wallet. Your lips parted as you recognized that heâs still using the wallet you gifted him on his last birthday before you broke up.
âTooru?â you spoke, casually pushing the door. âCan I come in?â
He let out a chuckle. âOf course you can.â
With that, you slid your body inside the room. His eyes were fixated on you as you sat down beside him, placing the kit on your lap. Your hands were trembling as you reached for him, which he willingly lifted without any question, gently patting the iced towel on his bruises that he probably got from mishandling the baseball bat.
âWow, never have I ever imagined that Iâll get a special treatment from a medical laboratory scientist. You know you can just kiss the boo boo and itâll go away instantly.â he winked, making you roll your eyes at him again.
âShut up. My treatment fee is really expensive for idiots like you.â picking up the disinfectant, you slowly rubbed it on the sides of the small cuts with a clean cotton ball, earning a winced from him as the sting penetrated the wound.
Tooru was silent the whole time youâre icing and dressing his hand. He knows that whenever you're doing something healthcare related, you donât want to be disturbed as you pour your hundred percent concentration into it. He knows this better than you.
âYou never gave me a chance to explain myself, Y/N.â he opened up when he saw you finished sealing the wrapped gauze pad around his palm. âAt least let me explain this time. I cannot swallow the fact that weâre already in the middle of this goddamn situation and you still havenât got the peace of mind you deserve.â
You could feel his stare burning at you. When you met his eyes, it was full of perseverance as if heâs not going to let you exit the room without listening to his explanation. To be honest, you really donât know to yourself why youâre refusing to hear his side. Maybe youâre afraid of the confrontation. Maybe youâre scared of the fact that he cheated and heâs going to confess it in front of your face. Maybe youâre rejecting the reality that Oikawa Tooru did cheat on you with somebody else.
Gathering all your strength, you let out a deep exhale before speaking. âGive me a reason not to kick you out of this room.â
Tooruâs demeanor changed when he heard those words. It was hard for him to gain your trust once again after everything but if heâs given the chance, he will never let go and prove himself to be worthy of your heart once again.
âIt was a prank.â he started, making your face puzzled. âIt was a fucking shitty prank pulled by my teammate, Kindaichi. I remember him doing the same thing to Kunimi before but we all laughed it off since Kunimiâs single. I donât remember when he did it but I think when I left my phone in the locker. He changed his numberâs contact photo and name into a girlâs name. After that I went straight to your apartment. I seriously forgot the existence of my phone that day since weâre really having fun and I was late for my practice the next day. When Kindaichi heard that I left my phone somewhere, he texted it and thatâs the part where you saw it and thought that I was cheating on you. I confronted him after that with Iwa-chan. That's why I know all of it and he said sorry. I never spoke to him after that.â
He let out a sad smile. âThatâs basically everything. I tried contacting you, calling, messaging, and waited outside of your apartment for three hours but you werenât there. I really wanted to talk with you because we both know that Iâll be leaving for Argentina in a few weeks but yeah, it happened and we canât really change anything about it anymore.â
Tooruâs bandaged hands slowly made its way to yours, clasping both of his palms on your hands. âIâm so sorry that I let it go just like that. I know that Iâm three years late but if thereâs anything that I can do to make everything right again, Iâll prove it to you in any way you want just to trust me once again. Even as just friendsâŠY/N, youâre the best girlfriend and best friend I ever had in my whole life and thinking about everything that happened between us and how it ended just like that puts me in misery.â
Fuck. you thought. You donât know if the world is playing with your vulnerability right now but after hearing everything, you feel like youâre stoned in your place. You feel like your insides are being scrambled and you wanted to vomit every single thing you ate for the last 14 days with him. All this time, it was a prank. A fucking prank that caused so much damage in both of your lives and relationship. A prank that made you lose your former significant other. And the most fucked up thing about it was you couldâve done something to prevent your relationship from crumbling down. It was completely in your control yet you let him slip away from your finger. If it wasnât for your stubbornness, Oikawa Tooru is still your partner until today.
âShit! Y/N, Iâsorry! Fuck, please donât cry.â Tooru panicked when he saw the pooling liquid in your eyes start streaming down your cheeks, eventually wetting both of your hands. You didnât even realize that you were already a crying mess as you hollow your cheeks to prevent the pitiful sobs escaping your mouth.
With much fragility, Tooru enclosed your trembling body into a warm hug that instantly melted all the pain youâve been feeling. You could hear your hearts beating together against each otherâs chest.
âItâs okay. Weâre okay now. I finally found you again. I love you so damn much, Y/N.â he whispered in your ear, right hand caressing your back.
After a few minutes of staying in that position, you finally calmed your hurricane. You pulled away, greeting his worried eyes with your puffy and red ones. Upon meeting his gaze, you felt your heart soften as Tooruâs caramel ones penetrated in yours. His lips formed into a small smile when he saw the way you looked at him.
He will never forget those doe eyes of yours. The very first time he saw your eyes, he instantly fell in love and he knows deep inside that heâll keep on falling in love with you in every chance he gets. In every universe and in every lifetime, his heart only belongs solely to you.
Your faces acted on their own, slowly moving towards each other until your warm lips clasped with each other. The tension that was middling the two of you finally broke today. It started gentle, lips moving together in sync not until Tooruâs hand grabbed your jaw, lightly turning your face to the side to deepen the kiss as he explored the cave of your mouth that he hasnât tasted for years.
You pushed yourself above him, finally straddling his lap and wrapping both of your arms around his neck as the innocent kiss suddenly turned into a heated one. Tooru would lie if he said that he didnât miss all of this. The feeling of being intimate with someone that he hasn't given a chance after your break up because he doesnât want to do this thing if itâs not with you.
Grinding yourself against him, you felt the growing bulge that was now poking your heated core. You couldnât help but to let out a soft moan that made Tooru halt his action. It turned him on.
âY/N, do you want to do this?â he asked, eyes now filled with lust. You nodded, wiping the corner of your mouth. You could feel your cheeks firing up as embarrassment crept in your soul for wanting him.
âWords, love. I need your consensual words.â he commanded you.
Despite the awkwardness youâre feeling, you couldnât help yourself especially when you felt him fully erected under you. âY-yes, Letâs do this.â
Thatâs all it takes for Tooru to gently place you in the bed and continue kissing your unattended mouth. His hands started roaming around your breasts, squeezing both of it tenderly that earned another moan from you. You felt him smirking against the kiss before he humped above you, aligning his clothed bulge that was restraining against his jeans and rubbing it against your clothed pussy.
It ignited a pool of wetness as you felt the hardness being rubbed in you.
âH-hggghâŠShit,â you cursed, eyes shutting from the luscious friction.
âFuck, Y/N. Iâm so hard for you.â Tooru said as he massaged your core with his hand. He felt the wetness leaking from your clothes that made him bite his lip in horniness.
He went down from his position as he pulled the hem of your scrub suits down, completely removing your bottom garment that revealed your wet panties. Tooru mentally cursed at his view. All he did was kiss and teased you and yet, youâre already a pooling mess for him. The way how your body reacts to you is driving him insane.
Slender fingers started circling around your clothed core that sent a jolt of pleasure in your body, making your back arch. Tugging the only piece of your bottoms down, he successfully removed the clothing swiftly. He was welcomed with your dripping pussy for him. He didnât waste another second and devoured it hungrily, tongue nibbling your clit.
âAhh!â you let out a loud moan as his warm muscle made contact with your pussy. He was licking and placing soft kisses before alternating it with sharp circles by his tongue. The way he glides his mouth against it was driving you in nuts, almost making you see stars.
âShit shit Tooru, it feels so good!â you did hesitate to let out another moan when he inserted a finger inside you. When he felt that your walls adjusted to it, he slid another one before moving his digits in and out.
You donât know what to feel due to the intense pleasure that was being thrown at you when he started scissoring his fingers inside. You felt like you could cum with just his fingers. Tooruâs eyes never left your sight and watched how youâre taking his fingers really good.
âF-fuck, Tooru. Please! I want youâŠFuck me! I want to come in your dick,â you pleaded messily as you felt your stomach being tied in knots.
With that, he took his fingers out and started stripping his bottoms. His aching hardened cock finally freed itself and slapped against his abdomen. This wasnât the first time that you saw Tooru naked and this wasnât definitely the first time that you saw his member but shit, its length and size never fails to amaze you.
Quickly grabbing his wallet, he took out a piece of rubber which you quickly recognized.
âYou really took the condoms earlier?â you asked, eyeing at the packet of condom that is now being torn from its packaging.
âJust a few pieces. For emergency.â he grinned as he slid the rubber on his dick without any problem. You laughed as you already expected that from him.
Positioning himself between your legs, he grabbed the shaft and started rubbing the tip against your pussy, almost teasing you. The damn idiot was smirking the whole time and slammed his dick inside you that made you yelp.
âFuck! Tooru, what the hell?!â
âYou like it rough, donât you?â
He started rocking his hips slowly before picking a consistent pace that made him groan in pleasure.
âYouâre so fucking tight and wet, Y/N. Fuck love, I love you and your pussy so much.â he said in between the thrust like heâs worshiping your whole self. You let out a chuckle that was replaced with erotic sounds as he started thrusting in a much faster pace. You felt your walls being stretched out but at the same time, it felt so good that his dickâs the one whoâs stretching you out. Tooru found your g-spot in between the thrust that earned you a loud moan as the waves of electricity slammed your body.
âYes! There! I-itâs so good! Y-youâre so good!â you moaned out as the same spot was abused by his dick repeatedly.
You felt that heâs nearing because his thrust became incredibly faster and impatient. His face was now grunting as beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, lips parted in pleasure. Your stomach starts hardening as your core feels like itâs going to combust anytime. Your insides are tightening so much, indicating that youâre also nearing.
âT-tooru, Mâgonna c-cum,â
âMe too, love. Me too.â
He replied incoherently, thrusting a few times more before pulling his member out, coming inside the piece of latex. You also released the coil that is forming inside you before he could even pull his dick out.
The both of you were panting so hard with your legs trembling and chest heaving. Tooru collapses on your top with a smile, kissing your lips once more before burying his face on your neck.
âI love you, Y/N.â he said, which made you let out a genuine smile.
Meanwhile, across the wooden door of the masterâs bedroom, Tobio was standing with two cups of your favorite 3-in-1 iced coffee that was meant for you and him, right hand completely frozen on the doorknobâs surface as he listened to the alternating erotic moans launching from each otherâs mouth while making love.

"Fuck."
You buried your face in your palms, frustration bubbling in your chest. You told him not to get attached, but here you are, sitting on a bench on a cold and rainy night alone outside a bar. He wanted to be official, but you didn't want anything serious. Just fuck buddies, that was the agreement. You didn't sign up for this, for broken hearts and blocked numbers.
"Well hey there Doll Face, something wrong?"
You looked up from your hands, greeted with the smug expression of a very handsome man. Beside him stood an equally as attractive but less smug man.
"It's messy", you sighed.
"Luckily for you, I like it messy," he winked at you.
Your amused grin was enough for him to take a seat beside you, the other man seating himself on your other side.
"Friends with benefits gone wrong," you sighed. "He wanted more, I wanted to stay the same," you explained with an annoyed groan. You felt his calloused hand slide up your arm, patting your shoulder.
You felt the other man, who had yet to speak up until now, slide a warm hand onto your thigh. "How frustrating, needy people wanting more than they deserve." The deep rumble of his voice went straight between your legs.
"I wouldn't say he was undeserving, I just don't want any commitment," you mumbled shyly.
The first man spoke again, his hand coming up to cup your plush cheek, "Oh, I wouldn't say anyone's deserving of a beauty like you."
When you met the first mans eyes you realized just how close he'd gotten to you, you could feel his warm breath fanning across your face; it smelled of peppermint. You swallowed thickly as he came closer, daring to glance down at his lips. Before you could even look back up his warm lips where pressed against your own.
Without even thinking, you kissed him back, only pausing briefly when you felt the hands of the second man pulling you back against his chest. His big hands moved your hair away from your neck, kissing and licking at the freshly exposed skin.
Your mind was buzzing as the warmth of the two men enveloped you.
However, before you could get very far both men pulled away, the second speaking first, "should we take this to our place? Is that okay with you Baby?"
You couldn't seem to find your voice, opting to nod instead.
With that the two men got up, the second one helping to your feet. Your legs felt like jelly and he let you lean against him, his thick arm wrapping around your waist as the three of you walked to what you presumed was their car.
"No fair Iwa, you're hogging her all for yourself!" The first man whined before slipping his arm beneath yours, locking them together between your now intertwined hands.
"You don't like him better do you Doll?" A cute pout adorned his lips as he whispered in your ear.
"..I-I", you stuttered, your heart beating to fast for you to even think.
"Stop it Tooru, you're messing with her too much. Don't worry Baby, he's only teasing." The second man stroked your waist with his thumb gently as he spoke softly to you.
The first man, Tooru, handed the keys to the second man, who's name you still weren't quite sure about, when you got to their car. It was a very nice lifted black 4 door jeep.
"You drive Iwa, I'm going get her ready on the way back," Tooru said with a mischievous grin.
The second man sighed before pulling your further into him. "Is that okay with you Baby," he asked. Before you could answer he leaned in, whispering in your ear. "Want him to get you all hot and bothered in the back of my car?"
The implication made your core ache, you just nodded dumbly. Tooru chuckled as he pulled you into him as the other man released his hold on your waist.
As the other man, only identified as 'Iwa', climbed into the drivers side Tooru led you to the door behind the passenger side.
He opened the door then looked at you, realizing your were too dumbfounded to climb up into the big car yourself, he chuckled. His big hands slid beneath your plush thighs, leaning in to your ear he whispers to you, "jump, Doll."
Listening to his command, you jump up. He catches you, your tummy pressed against his solid stomach.
You see a mischievous grin spread across his handsome face. He leans into your ear again, his warm breath tickling your neck, causing you to shiver. "Oh pretty girl, I can feel how wet you are down there already."
The way he licks his lips has your your tummy doing front flips. However before he can kiss you the loud rumble of the Jeep revving to life startles you, making you jump in Tooru's strong arms. "Get in the car 'ru," Iwa grumbles.
With a grumble of his own, Tooru obliges, lifting you onto the back seat before crawling in himself.
With both of you in the car, Iwa pulls away from the bar, and the bench where you had been wallowing in your own misery only a few minutes ago. Before you can take in too much of your surroundings Tooru has you back pressed against the back seat of the car, laying between your thighs, his warm tongue playing with your own.
His slender fingers slide from your thigh to your hips, then slip beneath the tiny black dress that adorned your figure, sliding it off your warm body.
He groans as he takes in the sight of you, splayed out on the backseat of his car in nothing but a bra and a lacey pair of panties.
"Fuck your so pretty f'me Doll," his words are slurred and his voice low. There's a predatory look in his eyes as he trails his eyes across your impeccable figure, and you swear he almost starts drooling.
When he finishes taking you in, he presses his firm body against your softer one. He leans into you, nibbling on your earlobe gently before whispering into your ear.
"Gonna let me touch you Princess? Make you feel real good Doll."
You only manage a soft whisper of your own, "please, wan' you to touch me 'ru"
You can tell that riles him up when he feverously presses hot, open mouthed kisses against your neck. You bite your lip to hold back a moan, not wanting to seem needy so soon.
You slide one hand up his back and into his hair, the other one coming to rest on his lower back while he makes an absolute mess of your neck and collarbones.
"Don't forget to actually prep her, Tooru." The low rumble of the other mans voice snaps you out of your little haze. You look towards the front where he sits driving as Tooru pulls away from your neck.
"Yeah, yeah, I got it Haji'. You just focus on the road yeah?"
He doesn't bother waiting for the man to reply, wasting no time slipping your bra off of you, leaving your chest bare before his hungry eyes. He doesn't hesitate before latching onto one of your bare nipples, teasing it with his warm tongue.
You jolt at the sensation, bringing the hand you had buried in his hair up to cover your mouth, and your moans.
You feel him finally slip a hand into your lacey panties. However he didn't touch where you needed him, opting to ghost his lithe fingers over your core teasingly.
You fisted part of his shirt in your hand, a whine slipping from your pouty lips.
You hear a groan escape Tooru's lips from where they attacked your breasts, finally dipping his middle and ring finger into your hot cunt.
You close your eyes, embarrassed by Tooru's gaze burning into your face, watching your expression like a hawk.
You hold the back of your hand over your mouth, holding back moans as he buries his long fingers in your gummy cunt.
The pace of his pretty fingers only increases as he pounds them into your pussy.
Despite your reservations you can't help the pornographic moan that escapes you lips when he hooks his fingers, burying them into that spot that leaves your back arching.
You can hear a breathy curses escape the other man from where he sits in the drivers seat, his knuckles are white from how hard he's gripping the steering wheel, glancing at the filthy scene through the rearview-mirror.
It doesn't take much more of Tooru's ministrations to have your body shaking as you cum on his fingers, a loud moan escaping your lips.
His fingers work you through your high, his plump lips whispering sweet encouragements in your ear as you gasp for breath.
"That feel good Doll? Yeah? I'm gon' make you see stars tonight pretty girl."
Before he's able to say much more the car hums to a stop, you're at their house. You can hear the way Iwa aggressively unbuckles himself, flinging his door open before slamming it shut. You barely able to register what's happening before the back door is swung open too.
"You having fun back here without me Baby? He make you feel good huh?" The sneer of Iwa's voice has you excited as you feel his warm hands scooping you into his big arms.
Before you know it one of his big hands in buried in your hair, the other under your ass to support your weight. He walks with his lips on yours, the open mouthed kiss he has you entranced in is beyond messy, drool slipping down your chin as you cling to his shoulders.
You hear the jingle of keys as Tooru opens their front door, your discarded clothes in his hand.
You moan into Iwa's mouth, your clit bouncing against his hard-on every time he takes a step. When you get into the bedroom Tooru has seated himself on the bed, legs spread, although still fully clothed. Iwa breaks from the kiss, "shirt off Tooru," he grunts.
When his shirt hits the floor Iwa sits you between Tooru's legs, your back pressed against the brunettes chest.
With his arms now free, Iwa tugs his own shirt off over his head tossing it near Tooru's.
Tooru takes the opportunity to tug you back further onto their mattress before sliding his pants and boxers off, discarding them haphazardly over the side of the bed. Then, he's stripping you of your panties as well.
When you feel Iwa's hands on you again, he's fully naked as well. he leans in to whisper in your ear, "what's your name Babygirl? You never told us."
"Y/n."
"Beautiful, I'm Hajime. The devilish one over the is Tooru, though I think you've probably gathered that by now. That is, if that dumb little head of your is even still working."
The sexy smirk that slides across his lips making you dizzy.
You were still panting from the kiss, drool staining your chin, and you can only imagine how many hickeys now adorn your skin.
He crawls onto the bed, his big hands spreading your thighs as he leans into you. "I'm to fucking ruin you tonight Babygirl."
He lets you cup his face in your palms, bringing it closer to your own. "Please..wan' you to f'me dumb," you plead quietly.
That seemed to break any self restraint either man had left.
Hajime pressed into you, kissing you feverishly, as you're pressed back into Tooru's chest.
Tooru is quick begin playing with your perky little nipples, biting more hickeys into your neck while he's at it.
When Hajime's had his fill of your mouth he pulls away.
"Turn around and suck Tooru's cock f'me Baby. You can do that for him can't you dumb little Baby?"
You nod feverishly turning around to face Tooru, who cups your face in his hands, placing a quick kiss to your swollen lips before he lets you go.
You lean down, letting you tongue slip out from between your lips. Looking up at him you lick a slow stripe from base to tip, swirling your tongue around the tip when you reach it.
Tooru lets out a quiet groan, sliding one hand into your hair when you take him into your mouth.
Hajime takes a moments to take in the sight of the two of you, his cock throbbing at the lewd sight.
Then, he leans down, giving your clit a few kitten licks that make you jolt as he slips two fingers into your tight cunt. He had Tooru prep you in the car, but he needed to make sure you were stretched enough to take him.
When he decides you're ready, he lines himself up to your pretty pussy. He takes his time, slowly sliding himself into your warm walls. The sensation of your cunt alone has him letting out a loud groan.
The walls of your wet cunt felt inherently different then Tooru's ass, and he hadn't had good pussy in years.
He slides his hands down your back, pressing you into a deep arch.
Before you know it Hajime's pounding into you from behind, his thick cock stretching you so fucking good it has your eyes rolling back. Tooru has you choking on his, fucking up into your mouth leaving you choking and drooling on his fat cock.
You can tell Tooru is close from his irregular, feverish thrusts that leave your throat sore and your pussy dripping on Hajime's cock behind you.
You feel yourself moaning despite your mouth being full, Hajime pressing two fingers into your cunt as well, stretching you even more.
Finally, you feel Tooru spill his thick seed down your throat while you try your best to swallow all of it, your nose pressed against his abs.
You gasp for air as he lets your head go, your lungs burning from your intense rendezvous.
Your brain tries to grasp what's happening as Hajime's thick arm pulls you up against his chest, still fucking up into you, just much slower than before.
You barely register his deep voice rumbling in your ear as he pulls his fingers out of you.
"Think you can take both of us in your pretty little cunt Baby?"
What?
"Bof' of you?" You ask dumbly, your words slurred.
"Yeah. What do you say Doll? Wanna give it a try?"
This time its Tooru whispering in your ear.
You just nod, not truly realizing what they're talking about until Tooru is bullying his fat cock into your cunt right alongside Hajime's.
You arch backward tears spiling down your face at the intense stretch it brings.
Can't do this.
"T-Too big. Can't take it s'too big." You whine weakly pushing at Tooru's hips.
"Shh.. Baby, you can do it. I know you can do it." You hear Hajime Comfort you as Tooru kisses the tears off your face.
Finally, Tooru bottoms out inside your cunt. "We'll move slowly Baby, promise we'll make you feel good."
They do start slowly, taking turns sliding in and out of your cunt. When you start moaning again they gradually pick up the speed until they're pounding into your fat cunt relentlessly.
You're moaning pornographically, clawing at Tooru's strong back unable to think of anything but the mind blowing pleasure ripping through your body.
By the time the three of you are cumming you've being fucked completely stupid.
"Jus' look at you Baby, not a single thought in that pretty head no more," Hajime chuckles.
You fall into Tooru, not able to support your own body anymore. Luckily he holds in his arms, kissing your face gently as you try to catch your breath.
"There, there Doll, I've got you now."
The last thing you can recall before you fall asleep against Tooru's firm body is the sweet words of both men praising you.
A/n: It's literally 5:20am so I'll proofread this in the morning.

found & lost
ⶠoikawa tooru x gn!reader
ⶠimplied nsfw, suggestive
ⶠfluff, angst
âHi there.â
You set your glass down on the table and turn to greet this person. Shit. You almost forgot about him also being a guest.
âAh, hello Oikawa.â
He chuckles, âSince when do you call me Oikawa?â
If only you could have gone through the whole wedding ceremony without bumping into him.Â
âSince I became an ex? So since the second year of college.â
Your table is astonishingly empty and you suspect that your missing friends are responsible for the conga line thatâs started on the dance floor.Â
âWow, look at whoâs conveniently forgetting years of young love before that.â He then gestures to the empty velvet-lined seat beside you. âMay I?â
Doing a quick check of your surroundings, you whisper, âAre you sure? We donât want to end up on the highschool gossip page.âÂ
Thereâs no such thing to worry about. Oikawa is turning 29 next year. So are you.Â
Still, itâs only half a joke because his current dating life is plastered on âcelebrity newsâ websites instead.Â
He smiles, teeth and all. Itâs so easy to fall back into old ways.
Somewhere in between speeches from drunk classmates and sobbing cousins, Oikawaâs hand finds itself on your knee.Â
âEver wondered why champagne bubbles rise in that straight line?â you ask, tracing the neat trajectory along the glass with your finger .
He tilts his head like it would make more sense at a 45 degree angle. âThis mystery, this elusive phenomenon keeps me up at night. Please go on.â
You laugh at his obvious teasing tone. âIf I didnât know any better, Iâd say youâre making fun of me.â
âYou know I could listen to you talk forever.âÂ
The second he says it, you see it on his face. It flickers in his eyes, flecks of doubt among shards of guilt. Â
You stretch your legs out and the satin of your dress allows his hand to slip away.Â
He knows better than to suggest a future when youâve both decided to leave each other in the past. The old you wouldâve snapped at him for it.
âWant another drink?â
He nods.
His friends find their way to your table, bringing along rambunctious laughter followed by a polite murmuring of apologies. A junior, who you barely recognize, passes his phone number to your sister on a crumpled up napkin and Oikawa comments about the âaudacity of these youngstersâ.Â
You shrug. âItâs old fashioned but cute.â Your friends hum in agreement.
A former teammate reminds Oikawa that he himself tried a similar move on an actress last year and Oikawa vehemently denies it, with his hand on his heart and eyes on you. The warmth from your stomach rises to your cheeks, mirroring the pattern of the bubbling champagne.
Another hour goes by. The line for dessert seems infinitely long so you do everyone a favour by not joining and instead, sneaking away from the main hall.Â
âWhat are we doing?â
âTalking.â A beat. âWe can just talk, canât we?â
One of the little flower girls bumps into Oikawa, ice cream smeared all across her pretty dress, and her mother apologises hurriedly in her attempt to grab her. Oikawa puffs his cheeks out at the child and she returns the silly expression while being carried away.Â
The elevator doors open, revealing warm lights and corporate jazz.Â
Toeing the maroon carpet flooring, you finally ask, âWhat have you been up to, Tooru?âÂ
âWell, Iâm not seeing anyone.âÂ
Of course, the love was hidden in the question. Of course, he easily peels away the layers of insecurity to reveal it .
You canât help but notice that Oikawaâs hotel room is neat. Itâs almost untouched with the exception of a carefully torn teabag sachet near the armchair.Â
Now, his tailored blazer lays discarded on that very chair as your fingers work his shirt buttons.Â
His lips meet yours, soft and pliant, until it breeds a sense of urgency. Pulling away, you murmur, âI missed you.âÂ
He shudders against your body, like a fever that wonât die down.
Thereâs an exchange of kisses, traversing familiar territories of skin, until youâre lying bare under his frame. Youâre wrapped around him, meeting him halfway with each thrust.
âIâm getting old,â he reminds you, or rather himself, as he pauses to rub his lower back.Â
âTooru, youâre still the same.â
Heâs too scared to ask what you mean by that.Â
He moves again before he can let himself go down that road.Â
In this world of winding lanes, is it not reasonable to find your way to a recognizable one when youâre lost?Â
Tomorrow, on the train back home, heâll repeat that to himself. As for now, heâll repeat your name with a stutter that runs from his mouth, down to the motion of his hips.
The sound of your erratic breathing perforates the silence. Heâs wordlessly drawing circles on your back with a nail trimmed far too short, red blooming into pain beneath the bed.
He sits up and says, in a whisper, âI wish you wouldâve said something. Or fought for us to-â
âTo?â
âFor us to- I donât know. To stay together till we figured things out?âÂ
âWhy? You think it couldâve worked out?â Itâs a rhetorical question, at this point.
You hear his head hit the pillow so you turn to face him.Â
He meets your gaze. âProbably not. You wouldâve ended up hating me.â
âYeah, and you wouldnât have even put in the effort to hate me back.âÂ
This is the end of the road. There is no way back.
A humourless laugh escapes his lips. âAnd you wouldâve hated me for that too.â

For prompt 2 for your event, could you do that one Leah and Rob sound. "You don't hate me?" "I could never hate you." with Oikawa? tyyyyyyyyyyy
ââ©â§âË toru oikawa + prompt 2 Ëââ©â§â
ââ©â§âË âso you donât hate meâ âi could never hate youâ Ëââ©â§â
You had always thought you knew Toru Oikawa like the back of your hand. From the days when you first met in middle school, his charisma and infectious energy had drawn you in, and over the years, you had become inseparable. You shared laughter, tears, and countless late-night conversations. So when the sudden shift cameâwhen he started pushing you away, his demeanor growing colder and more distantâit threw you into a whirlwind of confusion.
At first, you thought it was something you had done. Had you unknowingly said something to upset him? Or perhaps your busy schedule had pushed him to the background? The questions buzzed incessantly in your mind, but you couldn't find any answers. Each time you tried to reach out, he seemed to withdraw even further, leaving you feeling lost and adrift.
It was during one of those quiet evenings, when the moonlight streamed through your window, that you finally confronted him. You had just returned from a particularly painful day at school, your heart heavy with the weight of his cold shoulder, and the sight of him at the park, sitting alone on a bench, felt like a last straw.
"Toru," you said, your voice trembling slightly, "what's going on? Why have you been pushing me away? Did I do something wrong?"
He looked up at you, his eyes softening as if he was seeing you for the first time in weeks. He sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair in frustration. The usual charm and confidence that he wore like a second skin seemed to be stripped away, revealing a vulnerability you rarely saw.
"I've been an idiot," he admitted, his voice low and rough. "I didnât want to hurt you, but I didnât know how to handle everything I was feeling. Itâs like every time Iâm with you, I want to spill everything outâeverything Iâve been keeping insideâbut it scares me. Itâs so unnatural for me."
You listened, heart aching, as he continued. âYou make me feel things Iâve never felt before, and I donât know how to explain it. I thought if I distanced myself, it would be easier for both of us.â
You stared at him, processing his words. The silence that followed was thick with unspoken emotions, and the moonlight cast a gentle glow on his troubled face. Slowly, you approached him and took a seat beside him on the bench, your presence offering a silent comfort.
"So you don't hate me?" you asked softly, the fear of losing him gripping your heart.
He turned to look at you, his expression a mixture of relief and regret. "Hate you? I could never hate you," he said, his voice breaking slightly. "The way Iâve been acting, itâs because I care so much. Itâs because you mean everything to me."
The tension between you seemed to melt away with his confession. You reached out, taking his hand in yours, feeling the warmth and the sincerity in his touch. His eyes searched yours, and for the first time in weeks, you saw the familiar spark of affection in them.
"I'm sorry," he whispered. "I didnât mean to make you feel like you were the problem. Iâve just been struggling with my own feelings, and I didnât know how to handle it."
You squeezed his hand gently, offering him a reassuring smile. "Itâs okay, Toru. I just needed to know where we stood."
He nodded, his relief palpable. "Thank you for understanding. I promise Iâll work on this. I want to be better for you, and I donât want to let my own fears ruin what we have."
The night continued with a renewed sense of closeness, the distance that had grown between you now replaced by the understanding and the warmth of a bond that had weathered the storm. As you sat there together, the moon casting its gentle light over you both, you knew that despite the struggles, you were still there for each other. And for the first time in a while, everything felt right again.

oikawa's love language is words.
by that, i don't mean just words of affirmation, adoration, or the like. sure, he's incredibly vocal about his love for you, calling you by the most annoying yet tooth-rottingly sweet nicknames (like sugarplum, honeybun, cupcake, snickerdoodle cookie, pumpkin, shortcake.... i'm sensing a pattern here...) just to â with a completely straight face â tell you how much he adores you and how absolutely perfect you look and how lucky he is to have you in the most embarrassingly adorable way possible (it always leaves you burning red hot in the end and infuriated by his stupid little handsome face not even being affected)
by that, i mean just talking to you in general. he's always put up a front for everyone else so that they can't see how he really feels or get any sense of his real thoughts. but when he's with you, all his walls fall down and leave him bare to your soul. complete authenticity fills every word that leaves his mouth because he knows he can trust you with his life and he knows that you will still care for him regardless of him being "perfect". the moments he talks to you are the moments he feels the most sincere love for you for accepting him as is and allowing him to feel freer than ever. he'd tell you about the mundane details of his day â how heavy the traffic was, the little kid who accidentally hit her own head with her slinky spring, the stupid things he overheard a group of teens talk about â just so he has another reason to speak to you.
inspired by a tumblr post my friend sent me a pic of.

when you wear their jersey
how the haikyuu boys react when you wear their volleyball jersey
character(s): Oikawa, Tsukishima, Kuroo
pairing(s): fem!reader x timeskip!Oikawa, Tsukishima, Kuroo (separately)
contents: very suggestive language, nakedness, taunting, established relationship, shared house, implied marriage proposal
a/n: not proofread! I am currently sick so apologies if it's not that good but it's been such a long time since I had written about the haikyuu boys T^T
ââââââââââââââ±*.ïœĄ:ïœĄâ±*.:ïœĄâ§*.ïœĄâ° âââââââââââ
Oikawa
(a/n I'm completely whipped for this fucker, I literally can't stop writing about him sdjkaskddks)
It had absolutely been a dream of yours to wear his jersey, ever since you two had started dating, so one time before a match you snatched it from his closet, and showed up at the game wearing it.
As he scored his first point, his eyes instinctively scanned the crowd, looking for your face. As he finally detected you, he was surprised to see what you were wearing, but ultimately smiled brightly, giving you a meaningful and eloquent look.
You gave him an innocent one, casually tying it in a knot, revealing your abdomen to him. His smile quickly turned into a grin, and you gave him a naughty smile.
Maybe it was just your impression, but during the rest of the game you noticed he was ever so slightly faster, more powerful and precise
Who would've thought wearing his jersey would've riled him up so much?
After the match, you two went home, but not before Tooru having to deal with a very feisty army of girls that were desperate for his attention.
Some of them did have his jersey as well, but it couldn't even compare to yours: it had Tooru's smell on it.
«So..someone wanted to show off today, huh?» he started, hooking a finger under the knot you had made, pulling you closer to him.
You looked at him through your lashes, faking an innocent attitude.
«I have no idea what you're talking about..I just liked this random t-shirt..» you faked even more, playing dumb.
He smirked, leaning into your charade.
«Oh, so if it's just a random t-shirt, then you wouldn't mind taking it off, right..?»
You panicked a bit, not wanting to take it off.
«To be honest, I'd like to keep it, thank you very much.»
«Oh, so you want to keep it on while I fuck you senseless?»
Tsukishima
You decided to wear his volleyball jersey to bed. It was just a random choice really, but when he came home later that night, you were met with his arched brows.
«Interesting choice of night outfit.» he commented, putting his duffel bag down, and slowly undressing, basically getting ready to shower.
You looked at him, your insides burning at the way he nonchalantly remained naked before you, except for his boxers.
«I hope for your sake that you're not wearing anything under it.»
And you weren't. You were feeling naughty that night, and besides, his jersey was so big compared to your body, that it was enough to cover up to halfway of your thigh anyway.
«Why don't you find out for yourself, Tsukki?» you taunted him, lightly stretching, making the hem of the skirt slide up, almost revealing your intimate parts.
He gave you an intense look. Even through his glasses, you could feel the intensity of his lust, and you were going to rile him up even more.
You beckoned for him to get closer, and he did, leaning his weight on the bed.
Your body was halfway covered by the bed sheets, but it didn't last long: he slid them down, and grabbed you by the ankles, making you slide all the way towards him, since you were so short compared to him (a/n who isn't though? boi is fucking 1.90 m, ffs).
The motion made the jersey slide all the way to your waist, revealing your lack of underwear.
«Would you look at that. Exposed, aren't we?» he taunted you, fingers trailing your thigh, making you shiver.
Maybe you would've worn his jersey more often, after all.
Kuroo
You wanted to surprise him a bit, so you decided to dig in the closet for his high school jersey.
«Found it.» and you put it on, finding out the Nekoma color scheme complimented your features quite well. What a nice added bonus.
As he came home from work, he found you casually working from home in his high school jersey and jeans, making your silhouette look phenomenal.
«Do my eyes deceive me, or are you wearing my high school jersey?» he asked, not sure whether to be confused or flattered, but then the latter option won.
He set the briefcase on the table, coming to you to hug you from behind.
«So?» he urged, wanting to know.
«I don't know, I just wanted to surprise you I guess? And having your surname on my back kinda feels nice too..»
«Oh?» you blushed, not sure how you had managed to actually say it out loud.
«Forget I said anything, I just don't know what got into me.» you swiftly take it back, but you can feel his smile on your neck, as he kisses the crook of it, in a sign of affection.
«Well, if you want my surname so badly, how cruel of me would it be to deny your request, my dear?» and you felt him take something out of his pocket.
You ended up crying of joy that night.

Hugs and Kisses
Oikawa x fem!reader

Masterlist
Dating Oikawa is weird. You and Oikawa started dating about a month ago. You have never been a popular kid. You had your friend group and you did your things just like everyone else. You figured dating him would draw a little bit of attention but not this much. As you walk down the hallway â the same hallway you have walked for two years â people stare at you. You focus your eyes on the floor and try to ignore them. You make your way to Oikawaâs locker, but your lack of attention causes you to run into someone.Â
âOh Iâm sorry.â You look up to see the captain of the baseball team looming over you, his muscular body way too close to you.
âItâs always a pleasure seeing you.â He winks at you with a smirk.Â
âUhâŠâ Something about his voices makes you shrink into yourself. You are about to walk away when you feel arms wrap around you. An involuntary squeak escapes your mouth.Â
âGooooood morning beautiful!â A familiar voice calls as he spins you in a circle.Â
You turn to look at him, âTooru! You scared me.âÂ
âSorry that I want to see my wonderful girlfriend.â He says placing a kiss on your forehead. His eyes drift past you to see the large captain behind you, âOh, hey Hiroto. Sorry, did I interrupt or?â
âNo. Not at all.â You quickly reply.Â
âYeah, just saying hi.â Hiroto says with a begrudging tone. He passes by you, brushing your shoulder and hitting Oikawaâs.Â
âMan I just donât understand him.â Oikawa says, shaking his head.Â
âDoesnât matter.â You hug Oikawa, his warm embrace and sweet smell relaxing you. You let out a soft sigh, âI have to go to class.âÂ
âBut I just got here.â Oikawa pouts.
âMaybe you shouldnât be late.â You press a kiss on his cheek, âIâll come to practice this afternoon, okay?â
âOkay.â You laugh at Oikawaâs pouty face. He really is just a big puppy.
Grabbing the last of your stuff, you close your locker and turn to go to the gym. Standing right behind your locker door is the same guy from earlier, Hiroto.Â
You jump back, âOh, uhâŠsorry. I didnât see you there.â You swing your bag over your shoulder and go to walk around him, but he steps in front of you.
âHey, if you arenât busy, you should come to watch baseball practice.â His scratchy voice makes your brain itch. Â
âYeah, uh sorry but Iâm going to the gym to watch Tooru practice, so uhâŠmaybe another time.â As you walk away, you scratch your head, trying to get off the weird feeling he gives you.
âYeah, another time.â He calls after you.Â
You walk into the gym and Oikawa immediately runs and hugs you. His warm embrace immediately takes away the weird feeling from before.Â
âHey, love.â He mumbles into your shoulder.
Before you can respond, you hear Iwaizumi yell, âLoserkawa, get over here and warm up!â
Oikawa looks up and pouts. You canât help giggling at his silly reaction, âYou should go warm up.â
âBut I wanna hug you.â He whines.
âI appreciate that, but you are supposed to be practicing,â You give him a peck on the cheek, âI will cheer for you on the side.â
âOkay.â Oikawa sulks back over to his team to warm up. You are dating a child.
You watch Oikawa practice and every time he hits a serve he winks at you. You are trying to study, but your book just sits open, while you neglect it to watch your boyfriend show off.Â
Coach blows the whistle to mark the end of practice. He calls the boys over for a huddle while you pack up your unfinished homework. Oikawa runs up to you for a hug but you stick your hand out preventing him
âWhat??â He pouts.
âYouâre sweaty. There is no way you are hugging me like that. Iâll go wait outside.â You tease. You walk outside into the cold air, a light breeze blowing pass. You shiver, wishing you had brought a jacket. Maybe you should have taken the hug, at least it would be warm.
âHeyâ
You jump and turn around to see HirotoâŠagain. âOh uh, hey.â
âYou need a jacket?â He asks, offering his, which is also sweaty from practice.
âUm Iâm good.âÂ
âOh, well, do you want me to walk you home. Itâs kinda late.â He takes a step uncomfortably close.Â
You back up against the door of the gym, âIâm actually walking home with Oikawa, but uh, thanks..â You try not to sound to uncomfortable. He just stands there staring at you and you arenât sure what to do. âUmâŠIâm gonna goâŠâ You open the gym door and quickly walk back inside.Â
You speed walk over to Oikawa and tightly hug his arm.Â
âHey, I thought you were waiting outside?â He looks over at you with slight concern.
âI got coldâŠâ You lie, not wanting to make a big deal out of it.Â
âDoes this mean you will hug me now?â Before you respond, he engulfs you in his sweaty arms, squeezing you tight.Â
âTooru! Youâre so gross!â You say that, but you really donât mind. He makes you feel safe and warm. So for all the teasing, you still welcome the hugs.
You have had weird run ins with Hiroto for a week now. You never knew him before and now heâs everywhere. He makes you uncomfortable, but you donât tell anyone because you donât want to assume anything about him. It is probably just you being overly judgmental. Every time you see him, he gets more and more familiar with you. He will stand closer to you, be more forward. He has asked to walk you home several times now and you are running out of excuses.Â
Normally you have Oikawa as an excuse to get out of conversations, but he is really busy with preparing for his upcoming tournament. You manage to go the whole school day without running into him. Just when you think you will make it the whole day, you run into Hiroto outside the gym. (You were bringing Oikawa dinner since he would be practicing late).Â
âHey, how are you?â He asks.
âIâm fine.â You respond quickly.
âWhat are you doing?âÂ
âUh, I was just giving Oikawa dinner, since he will be here late.â
âSo you are staying here late into the night. Thatâs kind of rude of him to make you stay.â He suddenly sounds judgmental. You donât know how to feel about it.Â
âNo, uh he didnât make me stay. Iâm going home because I want to, not that I donât want to stay. I would stay but I need to do homework andâŠâ You are cut off by him laughing at you. âWhatâs so funny?â
âNothing. You donât have to be so defensive.â He lowers his voice and leans in closer, âalthough it is kind of cute to see you flustered.â
You feel your stomach flip at the statement, âWell, uh, I have to go now.â You slide past him and start speed walking away.Â
Hiroto, with his oddly long legs, catches up easily with you, âIâll walk you home.â
âNo, you donât need to do that.â You say shakily, not making eye contact.
âYeah I do. You canât walk home alone. I donât know why Oikawa would let you walk home alone. If I had a girlfriend as pretty as you, I wouldnât let her out of my sight.âÂ
You freeze outside the school gates, debating whether or not youâre going to stay for Oikawaâs practice. Should you go and get him? No, you canât bother him. He is already stressed out about this tournament. You canât be a burden.Â
âUm yeah, okay. Iâll see you later.â You stare at him, waiting for him to leave.Â
He stares back at you, âWell, lead the way.â You just look at him awkwardly, hoping he will take the hint. âUh, earth to Y/N. Lead the way home.â He waves his hand way to close to your face.
âWhy?â Is all you can think of to say.
âI canât walk you home if you donât walk home.â
âYou donât need to walk me home.â
âYeah I do.â
âNo you donât.â
âYou arenât walking home alone. You let Oikawa do it, so why canât I?â
âBecause Oikawa is my boyfriend and you arenât.â
âClearly he isnât a very good one.â He takes a step forward, backing you into the pillar of the school gate, âWhat do you see in him anyway. He is arrogant and self focused. All he cares about is volleyball.â
âThatâs not true!â You pipe out, increasingly scared of his presence.
âReally? Then why isnât he here to walk you home? Why do you always have to stay late for his practice.â He puts his hand on the brick pillar behind you and leans uncomfortably close to your face. You freeze, âWe all know I would be a better boyfriend than him. I can tell you like me, so just forget about him.â
You are scared stiff, his face inches from yours. You want to push him away, scream, run, something, but you canât move. Itâs like you are paralyzed. Suddenly, he closes the gap and smashes his lips against yours. You let out a muffled scream, eyes wide and filling with tears. He pulls away with a nasty grin on his face. You stare blankly past him, unsure of what just happened.Â
âSince you wonât let me walk you home, Iâll leave you with that.â He winks at you and pats you on the head before walking away.Â
When he is out of sight you crumble to the ground and break down crying. What just happened?
You walk back to your house in tears, confused, uncomfortable, and guilty. How could you have not done anything? Why didnât you push him away or stop him? When you get home, you immediately take a shower. You scrub yourself, trying to wash away the remnants of him. You sit in the shower drowning in tears, scrubbing so hard that you leave a rash. You end up crying yourself to sleep.
You wake up the next day, drowsy and confused. You hope it was all a dream, until you look at your arm where you left the rash. You almost start breaking down crying again, but you manage to pull yourself together. You are supposed to meet Oikawa today for coffee to study for an upcoming test. How are you supposed to face him? You let another guy kiss you and you have the audacity to casually get coffee. Your phone buzzes on your bedside table, Oikawas name flashing across the screen. You pick up and Oikawaâs smooth voice chimes through the phone, âHey love, are you alright?â You freeze. How did he know? âWe were supposed to meet for coffee at 10 right?âÂ
You look at the time and itâs 10:15, âOh crap.â
âItâs okay. I was just texting you and you didnât respond, so I wanted to make sure you were awake.â You can hear his lovely smile through the phone, his comforting presence washing over you.Â
âIâm sorry. I just woke up. Iâm on my way.â Your voice sounds hoarse and like someone who has been crying all night.
âOkay, no rush. Iâll be waiting. Love you.âÂ
âLove you, bye.âÂ
You jump out of bed and rush to get ready. You throw your hair up, put on some random pair of clothes, and grab an apple before running out the door. Luckily the coffee shop is in walking distance from your house, so you make it there pretty quick. You walk in the door, out of breath and see Oikawa sitting at a table in the corner. His face lights up at the sight of you. You walk over and set your backpack down with a thud.
âMorning love,â He pulls you into a big hug, âYou didnât have to run. You look like you just ran a marathon.â He laughs as you press your face against his chest. The vibration from his laugh is comforting enough to put you to sleep.Â
You pull back and sit down, âIâm sorry. I woke up late and I didnât even realize. I forgot to set an alarm last night.âÂ
Oikawa cuts you off by squeezing your hand, âHey, itâs okay. It happens sometimes.âÂ
You give him a half smile, still worn out from everything. He lifts his hand to cup your face, you instinctively lean into his touch. When you look at him, his face is scrunched up in concern, âAre you okay?â
âWhat?â You internally start freaking out. And maybe a little externally too.Â
âYour eyes are all puffy and you look worn down. You arenât smiling like you usually do and your voice is quiet and hoarse, which usually means something is wrong. What happened?âÂ
You are touched that he knows all of these things, but you feel the guilt pound away in your chest. You canât tell him. It would crush him. But you should. But you canât. âWhat, no. Iâm fine.â You lie.
Oikawa is not convinced, âHmm, okay. You donât want to talk about it. Iâll wait until you want to.âÂ
He is so good to you and you are so bad for him. You might just break down and cry at his gentle manner, but you donât. He slides over a coffee cup while you take out your books, âI got your regular.â He smiles.
âThanks, you didnât have to.â You blush at his kindness.Â
âSure I did.â
You spend a couple hours studying for your test. With each tick of the big hand, your heart drops further into guilt. There isnât much conversation save for talking about the test. You donât make eye contact the whole time. Oikawaâs voice was soft and his touch was gentle. He knows something is wrong but doesnât want to pry. Once you feel relatively well prepared for the test, you immediately get up to leave. Oikawa stands with you. He opens his arms for a hug, letting you decide if you want to take it or not. You gently lean into his arms, so desperately wanting to spill your soul to him, but you canât bring yourself to do it. So you opt to linger in his arms for a small moment
He gently pulls you close, kissing the top of your head. He whispers with the utmost care, âWhenever you want to talk, let me know. Iâll be right here.â You stand silent. âIt can be 3am or two days from now. I donât care when, but please call me, text me, talk to me. Donât suffer through it alone.â
You nod as you reluctantly pull away from his grasp. You turn on your heel and rush out before he seeâs you cry. Oikawa dejectedly watches you walk away, having already noticed the tears forming in your eyes. He can only hope that you will come and talk to him later.Â
You practically run back to your house, tears flooding down your face. You feel so guilty. You know itâs not your fault, but it kind of is. You didnât push Hiroto away. You just stood there and let him kiss you. You never said no, you never rejected him. You brought this on yourself and therefore only have yourself to blame. For hours you sit in your room sobbing, overwhelmed, disgusted, and unsure of what to do. You are practically drowning in your tears when you finally canât take it anymore. You have to do something, tell someone. You have to tell Oikawa. He will be mad and probably leave you, but it is better to rip the bandaid off than let the wound fester. Your hands are shaking as you pick up your phone to text Oikawa. You canât bring yourself to call him.Â
Y/N: Can you come over?
Toâ â€ïž: Of course đ„° Iâll be right over
Your eyes eventually dried, probably because you are dehydrated. You get up off your bed, the old springs squeaking as you lift your weight off of it. As you walk pass the mirror, you catch a glimpse of yourself. Your hair looks like a rats nest and there are tear stains on your cheeks. You look like a raccoon who had a really bad day. However, you donât have the energy to do anything about it. You go downstairs and pour yourself a glass of water. Lord knows you need it. You open your fridge, hoping to find food, even though you havenât gone to the store all week. Your stomach screams at you for only having eaten an apple today and then exerting enough energy equivalent to running a marathon. The lack of food in your fridge is almost enough to make you start crying again. As if you needed more help, you hear a soft knock on your door. You drag yourself over not wanting to open it, knowing what awaits you on the other side. Your hands shake as you reach for the door knob. You suck in a large breath and fling the door open. As you see your tall, beautiful, loving boyfriend standing there, you canât help breaking down sobbing again. All the guilt and confusion and pain comes flooding back into you. Maybe if you didnât drink that water you wouldnât have started crying again. Your knees give out under the weight of your sorrow. Oikawa swiftly catches you, immediately pulling you into his arms. His heart snaps in half at the sight of you so broken.Â
âHey shhh, itâs okay. Iâm here now.â He whispers, tenderly lifting you off the ground. He closes the door with his foot and walks you over to the couch. Your sobs resound through the room, each one more broken than the next. Oikawa gently cups your face, âDo you want to talk about it?â
You shake your head, unable to choke out words through the tears.Â
âDo you want to sit here and cry?â He asks kindly.
You grab his shirt, holding on so tight your fists are white. You manage to force out some words, âN-noâŠIâŠI-IâmâŠsor-sorry!âÂ
Oikawaâs face contorts in confusion, âDonât be sorry. You can sit here and cry and I will comfort you for as long as you want.â You fervently shake your head. Oikawa does his best to decipher your gestures, âNo? Do you want to talk?â
You shake your head, trying to force out words. In your effort, you start hyperventilating, everything becoming so overwhelming.Â
âShhh, deep breathe in.â Oikawa breaths in, gesturing for you to follow. You manage a broken breath. âBreathe outâŠBreathe inâŠBreathe out.â
You and Oikawa do this for a few minutes (more like Oikawa does it and you try between sniffles). Once your breath has evened out, your sobs become more controllable.Â
âThere you go,â Itâs not fair that Oikawaâs voice alone can calm you down. âNow what were you trying to say?âÂ
âIâŠIââ
âDeep breaths, youâve got it.â
âIâŠIâm sorry.â
âYou have nothing to be sorry about.â âN-noâŠyouâŠyou arenât g-getting it.â Oikawa looks at you confused. âIâIâŠ.â You start hyperventilating again.
âShhh, deep breaths. One word at a time. You?âÂ
âI-IâŠI cheated on you! Iâm so sorry!!! I didnât mean to! I didnât want to! It just happened and I donât know how and I donât know why I didnât do anything. He just was there and I froze and-andââ
You have lost all control at this point. You are sobbing, rambling on and on. Your face is buried in his chest, tears drenching his shirt. Heâs holding you so gently while you are gripping his shirt so hard. You are shaking and feel like you might throw up. Your head is spinning and you are confused. Itâs so much that you canât process it all. âIâm sorry! Iâm so sorry! Youâre so good to me and Iâm so terrible for you! I donât know why you picked me. Iâm sorry. I know you probably hate me and want to leave me but pleaseâŠplease!âŠPlease donât leave.â Your voice trails off, drowned under your tears. You need him so bad. You want to look in his eyes, hear his soft voice, be held in his arms, but you can barely hold yourself up. Oikawa is probably going to leave you. He is going to drop you and walk out. You need him to say something, do something. Even if it is yelling, even if he is breaking up with you, you need to hear his voice. Suddenly, Oikawa pulls you in his lap and hugs you softly against his chest. You freeze. Thatâs not what you thought he was going to do. Is this his goodbye? Is this it? âI-IâŠâ You try to say something but you just canât.
âShhhh, itâs okay.â His voice is so warm and comforting. You can feel his heartbeat through his chest as his scent envelopes you. âI donât know what happened, but you are not in a good headspace to talk about it clearly. So letâs just breathe.â He takes a deep breath, you following suit. âAnd letâs just sit and calm down for a moment, okay?âÂ
As he hugs you close to him, you can feel your heartbeat start to match his. Your broken sobs slowly turn into small sniffles. You sit in his arms for you donât even know how long. Nothing was said, nothing was done. You just breathed together and existed together. You felt the exhaustion of everything hit you like a truck. You curl up small in his arms and feel yourself start to nod off into a much needed sleep.
You wake up on your couch, eyes puffy, your thoughts muddled. Itâs dark outside even though it was just midday. What time is it? What happened? You were with Oikawa. You shoot upright. Did he leave you? You look around frantically. You have to apologizeâŠyouâŠyouâ
âHey, calm down. Iâm right here.â He comes around the couch from the kitchen. You feel the tension in your shoulders release at the sight of him. He sits next to you and you almost instinctively lean your head on his shoulder. But you remember, âI wasâŠwe wereâŠtalking? Crying? I was apologizing! Iââ
Before you can get all lost in your thoughts, he cuts you off, âCalm down, itâs okay. You were upset and we sat and calmed down. You ended up falling asleep because you used so much energy crying. Itâs been a few hours. I noticed you had no food, so I ordered some. Do you want to eat? Or do you want to talk?âÂ
âI want to talk. I need to talk. WE need to talk.â Your eyes are wide, like a deer in headlights.Â
âOkay, then letâs talk. Slowly and calmly. One sentence at a time.â He settles you down a bit, knowing your tendency to ramble. âWhat happened.â
âIâm sorry. I cheated on you and I feel like a horrible person because you are so good to me and I just ruined it.â You canât bear to look him in the eye.
âWhat happened? How did you cheat on me?â He asks with a hint of quizzical disbelief.Â
âWell he wouldnât leave me alone and I tried to say no but he kept insisting and then he just, he just kept getting closer and I didnât know what to do and then I was backed up against the pillar and then he leaned in and he-he kissed me.â You feel yourself shudder at the memory, that disgusting feeling creeping up again.Â
Oikawa tries to desperately hold himself together, waiting to hear the full story before going and punching a man, âHold on. Who is âheâ?â
âHiroto, that guy from the baseball team.âÂ
âAnd he kissed you?â
âYes, but I didnât do anything to stop him. I just froze when I should have shoved him orââ
âLove, this is not your fault.â His voice is light and compassionate, âHe approached you, yes?â
âYes butââ
âNo âbutsâ. Just a simple yes or no. Can you do that for me love? I just want to get everything clear.â
You nod with a quiet âyesâ.Â
âYou did not want him to approach you?â
âNo.â
âYou asked him to go away and to leave you alone.â
âWell, not in those exact words, but yeah. I should have been more clearâŠâ You stop yourself before Oikawa does.
âYou in some form or fashion attempted to express that you did not want him near you, correct?â
You nod.
âHowever, he ignored said attempt and then cornered you and forced you to kiss him?â Oikawaâs jaw clenches tighter and tighter with each question.
âYesâŠbut I should have moved.â âBut you couldnâtâ
âI didnâtâ
âYou said you froze, right?â
âYes.â
âThat is a totally normal and valid response to fear. You were backed into a corner and someoneâmuch larger than you might I addâwas looming over you. He was in your personal space and violated you. He ignored your signs, ignored your fear, and HE chose to hurt you.â Anger starts seeping out of Oikawa, steam practically fuming from his ears.
âYouâre angry. Iâm sorry. You have every right to be mad.â You start to shrink into yourself again, tears threatening to come back out.Â
Oikawa realizes his mistake and immediately softens up again, âNo, no. Iâm mad yes, but not at you. Iâm mad at him for being such a terrible person and for hurting my princess.â He pulls in his lap again, your back to his chest. He wraps his arms around you like a warm blanket, âYou did nothing wrong. None of this was your fault. You are the victim here, okay? You have every right to feel hurt or upset or whatever you need to feel. You are not a horrible person. You did not cheat on me by any means. Iâm not mad at you. Please donât be mad at yourself. I love you so much and you are so wonderful and amazing and Iâm so sorry you had to go through this. Iâm so sorry that I wasnât there to protect you.â
You spin around to look at him, âDonât blame yourself, please. You didnât know. I didnât tell you anything. I thought he would go away, but he just kept bothering me, day after day-â
âWait, how long has this been going on?âÂ
ââŠwell you remember at the beginning of the week when we randomly ran into him in the hallway?â
âVaguelyâ
âWell, after that I kept running into him and he kept saying weird things and asked me to come watch his practice or if he could walk me home. I always used your practice or you walking me home as an excuse but you were so busy with practice yesterday that I couldnât stay. And then I ran into him outside and he kept following me, insisting on walking me home and thenâŠyeah.â You look at Oikawa, his face slowly burning red with rage.Â
âSo he has been bothering you for a week now?â
âYeah, but I didnât want to say anything because I thought I was being dramatic or looking too much into itâŠbut I guess notâŠare you mad that I didnât tell you?â
Oikawaâs face softens again, âNo, not at all. Iâm sorry that you felt like you couldnât tell me. You arenât being dramatic. What he did was genuinely wrong and you are allowed to be uncomfortable or upset by it. Please if anything, anything, big or small, makes you uncomfortable or scared or upset or anything, please tell me. I want to know. I want to help you.â
You place your hand on his cheek, a soft smile poking at the corner of your mouth for the first time all day, âThank you. That means so much.â You lean your forehead on his, âI love you so much.â
âI love you too.â He closes the gap between you, gently pressing his lips against yours, afraid of making you uncomfortable.Â
You melt at his touch. Just one kiss from him and all your fears and worries fall away. You wrap your arms around his neck as his arms hold you tighter around the waist. You could live in this moment forever. You break apart but keep your head leaned on his. You two just sit and bask in each other for a moment before Oikawa pulls you in for a hug. You relax into him, letting his presence melt away the ice of the past 24 hours. He gently strokes your hair, âI hope you know Iâm gonna kick his ass.â
âDonât get kicked out of school, or worse, get kicked off the volleyball team.âÂ
He laughs at your comment, the vibration running through you, âIt would be worth it for you.â
You sit up, looking at him with a smirk, âAre you saying you like me more than volleyball?â
âI can play volleyball any time with anyone. There is only one Y/N in this world,â He presses a quick kiss on your lips, âAnd sheâs all mine.â
You blush at his flirting, âYou love me. You want to kiss me. You want to hug me.âÂ
âMhm, so what if I do?â He smirks.
âHmmm, Iâll allow it, but only if you bring me some food. I have only eaten and apple today and Iâm starving.â Your stomach growls and you both canât help laughing at the timing.Â
âOkay, anything for you, Love.â He gets up and brings over the ordered food, âBut for real, we are filing a report against him.â
âNo, I donât want to make a big fuss.âÂ
âItâs either that or I beat him to a pulp. Your choice.â He says, taking a bite of his food
âLets do the report.â You lean your head against his shoulder, âBut you would totally win.â
âYou think so?â He says smirking with a mouth full of food.
âOh yeah. Baseball has nothing on your serves.â
âGot that right,â He throws his arm around you and kisses the top of your head.Â
How did you get so lucky to find someone like him?Â
Epilogue
âDid you hear? Hiroto got expelled.â
âYeah, I saw him leaving school today.â
âWhat happened?â
âI donât know but he always made me uncomfortable.â
You hear the murmurs from your schoolmates as you walk down the hall with Oikawa, who is standing awfully tall today. âSomeone looks happy.â You nudge him.
âOf course. Iâm with you arenât I.â He smirks down at you.
âMhm, Iâm sure thatâs why. At least you didnât beat him up.â
âOf course not.â He says with a sly voice.Â
More random voices chime around you, âBro I saw Hiroto leaving school this morning.â
âDude, I heard he got expelled.â
âMust have gotten in a fightâ âYou think?â
âTotally. He had a nasty black eye.â
You smack Oikawa on the arm, âToâ you said you wouldnât beat him up!â
âI didnât!â He holds his hands up in defense, âOne punch doesnât count as beating him up.â You walk away, pretending to ignore him. âY/N wait! Come on, donât leave me like that. He deserved it!.âÂ
You canât help laughing at his little pouty voice.
âIâll make it up to you. Iâll buy you coffee.â He spins you around, giving you the biggest puppy dog eyes he can muster.
âHmmm, a coffee and ice cream.â
âDone.â He grabs your hand happily and continues walking with you.
âDid it hurt? Did he cry?â You mutter.
âOh yeah, big time baby.â Oikawa laughs.
You are a terrible person for laughing, but you have a pass this time around.Â
