"Uuurrrgh..."
For once, it seems that Eri appears to be giving the teachers a bit of a hard time. She's real reluctant to eat the green bell peppers on her plate, and as a result, has still not left the table as instructed.

July 9: K/S Origin Story Headcanons
At work today, I started thinking about how, while I’m fine with Kirk and Spock’s first meeting in ST09 and it works well enough for that AU, I emphatically don’t think any of that Academy stuff is also canonical for the TOS timeline. I seem to vaguely remember someone (involved with the film) saying it could work for both. I neither agree with that nor want it to be true.
I won’t go so far as to say it’s impossible, but the main reason I actually do think it’s implausible is that their relative school-ages are different in each ‘verse. That is, they are still the same number of calendar years apart, but in the TOS TL they each started the Academy at 18, whereas in the AOS TL, Spock starts at 18 and Kirk at about 22. So Spock is already several years out of the Academy when Kirk starts in AOS, whereas in TOS they might have overlapped in their education. Thus it seems illogical (sorry) to assume they met in the same way, even if you do think they met before serving on the Enterprise together as Captain and XO.
Do I think they likely knew each other in some other way? I mean... it’s plausible. Starfleet might not be that big, and Kirk canonically knows literally everyone. But considering that Spock spent almost his entire career on the Enterprise with Pike, and Kirk was on a variety of other vessels and planets, I feel like they probably didn’t know each other more than in passing.
And because ‘knew each other in passing’ just isn’t a fun origin story, I personally assume that they did not know each other at all before Kirk got the Enterprise. I use a lot of apocryphal sources, personal heacanons, and random assumptions to make up their back story as I see it, but nevertheless, I just have a lot of feelings about it and love it so much more than any boring enemies-to-(friends/lovers) narrative.
As I said, I thought the AOS backstory worked for AOS--but it does bug me in some ways--this assumption that two men who meet must first see each other as rivals, because men have the emotional depth of wild animals and can only view other men in terms of threats to their place in the invisible Man Hierarchy or whatever. This would be an unnecessarily mean reading if it were not for literally everything else in the reboots’ depiction of gender. In context, and keeping in mind that awful ‘two alpha males’ quote from, I think, ZQ, I think I’m being quite fair and accurate.
So, again, it’s fine for what it is but I do sometimes wish it was something else, and I certainly do NOT wish to import it in any way into the TOS-verse even with some details changed to fit the timeline.
The TOS origin story in my mind isn’t “rivals to lovers” it’s “I want to hate this guy but damn he’s awesome... to lovers.”
Or more specifically:
Spock has his place on the Enterprise. He’s served with Pike on this ship for over a decade, and he clearly developed an intense loyalty to Pike in that time. Pike was certainly his mentor;he was probably also a replacement father figure when Spock and Sarek weren’t speaking. Unlike Kirk, who was flitting around different ships/planet/assignments, the Enterprise was Spock’s replacement home--super important for someone who’s desperate for belonging.
Then Pike takes this sudden promotion, and leaves the Enterprise. I think this was pre-5YM, but nevertheless in the middle of a mission, and very unexpected. Starfleet obviously really wants Pike for this other post because he’s in a position to bargain: he’ll take the promotion and leave the Enterprise IF his protege gets to be First Officer under the new Captain.
At the same time, Kirk is the ambitious young officer who wants to be Captain. And he has this idea that he and his best friend/on-and-off boyfriend Gary Mitchell are going to get their own ship and be first and second in command, and basically run the thing. This plan seems to be working well; he’s promoted to Captain in his early 30s and he’s given the Enterprise, and there’s a spot for Gary there, too. Unfortunately, it’s not the First Officer spot. That’s been taken. That was figured out before Kirk even got the ship--a major personnel decision figured out as part of a deal he wasn’t involved in, that will nevertheless have a big impact on his life, and certainly fucks with his plans. So he gets Gary the navigator position instead, and they figure, good enough for now, and eventually this other guy will move on, and they’ll get to be the team they always thought they would be.
All of this perfectly sets up Kirk and Spock to meet and be rivals--not because men will recoil from potential threats in the form of other men, but because of the specifics of their circumstances. Spock is prepared to be wary of the man who took his mentor’s spot on the Enterprise, and Kirk is prepared to be wary of the man who took the First Officer spot he wanted to give his boyfriend friend.
And then instead of hating or even disliking each other, having to be cool and professional with each other, they instantly hit it off. They just like each other. Spock finds Kirk charming. Kirk sees that Spock is brilliant but also surprisingly funny. They play 3D chess and Kirk always wins! They enjoy each other’s company.
Kirk breaks it off with Gary for good--citing the whole being-his-superior-officer thing, and their friendship becomes awkward, because not only did Kirk ‘replace’ him as XO, he seems to be replacing him as a best friend/most important person, too.
I think Where No Man... takes place pre-5YM and not long after the chain of events that led to Kirk (and Gary) joining the Enterprise crew. I think all of this is very fresh--hence the awkwardness in the elevator scene, and catty Spock lines like “Is that the Gary Mitchel that you used to know (biblically)?” Notably, there is NO animosity between Kirk and Spock in Where No Man. Kirk and Gary are awkward. Spock and Gary fairly obviously hate each other. Kirk and Spock are introduced joking over chess.
Their problem was never being rivals, competitors, or enemies. It was liking each other too much from the start.

Note: But Jayden is the “Mom” Friend.
4. HEAR.
"Burn It To The Ground" ~ Nickelback
Verse 1:
Well it's midnight, damn right, we're wound up too tight. I've got a fist full of whiskey, the bottle just bit me.
Oh!
That shit makes me bat shit crazy.
We've got no fear, no doubt, all in balls out!
The first line represents the mask she wears around everyone in New York. She pretends to be the responsible adult. Making sure everything is taken care of, jobs are being done to the best of their ability. Monitoring everyone so that they do less stupid things that would end up getting them hurt.
And to cope with that amount of worry and near constant hovering she will go out once a week for drinks. She really hates being the only non-hysterical adult in New York on the inside. Because that means everyone looks to her when shit goes sideways. There's only so much she can take.
Chorus:
We're going off tonight,
To kick out every light!
Take anything we want,
Drink everything in sight!
We're going till the world stops turning,
While we burn it to the ground tonight!
Oh....
But just as she is a closeted romantic, she does possess a destructive wild side. Every time she leaves the state she does something that no one would ever believe she did. (This is counting all her verses)
She went to California and met Satan. One Lucifer Morningstar, owner of the night club Lux and consultant for the LAPD. With some successful wooing and very little coercion she raced through the streets with him and had a night of Hellish pleasure.
In another verse; she left and traveled cross country to Seattle where she met and (over a few months) befriended Theo Jansen. A former ER Doctor and now a co-owner of a bar. And after months of going back and forth from New york to Seattle has developed a relationship with him. Taking out of country trips to Canada with him.
When she was in college she went to Miami on Spring break. There she met a tattoo artist and over the weeks she talked to him. Getting to know one another she allowed him to talk her into getting a tattoo.
Verse 2:
We're screaming like demons, swinging from the ceiling.
I got a fist full of fifties, tequila just hit me.
Oh!
We got no class, no taste, no shirt, and shit faced!
We got it lined up, shot down, firing back straight crown.
With the appropriate amount of alcohol, Jayden is not above dancing in public. Sometimes Coyote Ugly style, and not many try to stop her either. Ask Beth about Mardi Gras, no really go ahead.
She knows better about mixing her drinks. But on occasion she will let go of her inhibitions and allow herself the freedom that the liquid courage. Because it allows a break from the tight shell she has made to keep others from getting close. She loses a lot of her cynical and snarky behaviour for a more jovial and shameless persona.
[Chorus]
Verse 3:
Ticking like a time bomb, drinking till the nights gone
Well get you hands off of this glass, last call my ass
Well no chain, no lock, and this train won't stop
We got no fear, no doubt, all in balls out
A little known fact about Jayden: She has been in at least four bar-fights. The more she drinks the easier it is to entice her into a brawl. Most think that they can take her solely based on the fact that is intoxicated. What they don’t know is that she does know how to box, and could semi-professionally. And she does yoga thus adding to her range of flexibility.
Her favorite move when someone has her arms pinned and holding her in a “bear-hug” is to kick up off the ground, using her captor as leverage to execute a dropkick. Yes it will bring her to the floor. But from there she has no fear of falling and thus everything is fair game.
Rule Number one: If you are in a fair fight, you tactics suck.
[Chorus]
Beat: Drums and Bass
As Drums and Bass play off of each other and used to keep the tempo of a score, I have decided to blend them.
Drums~ In this song the drum line, specifically the kick-drum, is a constant and deep beat. And as the song progresses it almost mimics that of a heartbeat. We have all sense the movies and tv shows where the main protagonist is in a fight and it has moments where the audience can hear the slow and fast pace of their heart by use of Bass drops.
Bsss: The deep seductive sound that most people don't really notice. It the that growling rumble that has been given very little spotlight. Take it from the mun who is one, there is a joke about Bass players being the Invisible Kids of a band. Not far from the truth. But in this song the bass line is more pronounced with the part under the verses. The bass takes the lead for the words and often can be used to know where directional cues are.
Guitar: Lead and Rhythm
These two are often hard to tell the difference and most bands do not have rhythm guitarists. This is not the case in Nickelback. Thanks to Wikipedia (Because Mun admits she did not know this) the band is composed of guitarist and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger, and drummer Daniel Adair.
Both Chad and Ryan fill the missing parts with echoing almost battling guitar parts. There is a beat between the two and they are the chaotic nature that runs in all humans. Every person is born with one and it depends on how much you nurture it. The occasional indulgence it what keep us balanced.
Summary: It is safe to say that everything Jayden does outside of New York is part of who she wants to be. It is the freedom of being herself instead of the Leader that everyone expects from her. If she trusts you enough you may one day get to witness the fire under her skin.

"Hey, hey, Eri!" As much as it was his eagerness that wanted him to rush right to the kid, he reeled it back, instead happily walking to her then squatting down in front of her. "Quick thing–have you had ice cream yet?"
“Red Riot-san...!” Just seeing him come by for a visit brought a smile on her face. Eri paused with her drawings, giving him full, undivided attention.

Eri blinked a few times before looking at a particular spot in her room. She coulda swore she felt some kind of energy that’s similar to Momoka’s Quirk. Upon investigation, however, she found nothing there.

“Momoka-san..?” ... Maybe she got caught by Yagi before she could get through...?

Originally, Eri was only going to get herself a nice glass of milk. She opened the refrigerator door, and located where the milk was placed.. but then she noticed the bottle of soda just sitting there without any label on it claiming it belong to someone else. Something about it seemed much more different to other kinds of soda she’s seen...
So she picked it up, inspecting it a little and from different angles. It took some effort, but she finally twisted the cap open, hoping to see what kind of soda it was.

Eri’s looking a little down. Her training sessions with using her Quirk haven’t been going very smoothly lately. Trying to get it to stop had grown more difficult, probably because of how much it’s grown back up to this point, and because of this, she’s become rather discouraged in trying any more.
Poor girl felt too ashamed to look Deku in the eyes. He’s the one she told that she’d try harder, after all. Would he be disappointed in her...?

There's an adorably little mischevious look on her face as she did her best rendition of a 'sinister chuckle'. Eri crawled under her bed to fetch something, only to come back out with a whoopie cushion in hand.
