Unnatural Law
We Must Protect Rich White Guys
Stephen Jay Morris
7/13/2023
©Scientific Morality
In Al Gore’s 2006 documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth,” he presented factual evidence of an upcoming catastrophe: the climate crisis. Not only did he discuss the urgency of the impending situation, but he offered solutions to prevent it. Solutions such as lowering your carbon footprint and avoiding fossil fuel.
So, what did the oil companies do? They threatened their Republican representatives with ceasing donations to the G.O.P. unless they committed to run a campaign against Al Gore and his “Ecological Army.” Fox News attacked Gore by discrediting him with claims that he used tons of gallons of jet fuel to fly to his speaking engagements. You know? Labeled him a hypocrite. Also in CHUD fashion, they wealth-shamed him and aired aerial photos of his mansion.
You see, to take a left wing view of anything, you must be poor. After all, all leftists must take a vow of poverty, as do Catholic priests and nuns. Donkey shit! If you are going to slander somebody, try not using paralogical arguments.
At any rate, that is a major tactic they use—personal defamation. That way, the focus is taken off the issue and spotlighted, instead, on the individual’s shortcomings. Libel replaces the facts about Big Oil’s destruction of the earth and its atmosphere. Al Gore’s movie was right on the money.
Meanwhile, as the CHUDS are calling Al Gore an alarmist, they are telling the world that transgender people are grooming kids to be homosexuals. These halophiles only want to drink liberal tears. What the fuck are they good for? Sucking off WASP billionaires? Then Trump goes to court and the Newsmax reporters show their ugly, dolorous mugs. They sound almost robotically monotone: “We must protect rich white guys.” “We must protect rich white guys.” “We must protect rich white guys.” Ad-nauseum.
Today, I heard on the radio that Texas hit 110 degrees and two days ago, the state of Vermont experienced unprecedented flooding after nine inches of rain fell in less than five hours. The weekend leading into July 4th saw the highest ever recorded global temperatures. The southern portion of America is experiencing an unrelenting “heat dome,” while the northern portion of the country is seeing tornadoes, hurricanes, violent storms, and other extremes. Any meteorologist will tell you this is not normal for this time of year. If the world unites, we can begin to stop this onslaught of natural disasters. But the conservatives think their money and profit is more important than the welfare of humanity! While farmers’ crops are drying up and blowing away in the wind, the rich are snorting coke off a prostitute’s ass! But leave it to the conservative propaganda machine to spew that these are dignified, American gentlemen who want a clean cut, Christian country.
The only way to fight against this crisis is to counter the CHUD propaganda with educational facts to the contrary. When a liar calls you a liar, you are winning the climate struggle. There is a global youth movement and they pissed to the max. They are willing to damage property to give notice of the planet’s destruction, as well as hold nonviolent resistance protests. We should all support their efforts.
Meanwhile, the political Right is in shambles. The Religious Right is living their “End Times” fantasy, the fossil fuel companies are panicking that their great grandchildren will have to get jobs, and the White Power creeps are worried that all food will become kosher. The Republicans will build a giant tomb in Washington D.C. for Trump after he dies from a massive heart attack.
After Florida submerges into the Gulf of Mexico, oil drilling rigs will be above sea level because human remains become dirty energy. It’ll be better than dead dinosaurs!
America has the worst conservative movement in the history of the world!

Creating connection with science communication
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/creating-connection-with-science-communication/
Creating connection with science communication
Before completing her undergraduate studies, Sophie Hartley, a student in MIT’s Graduate Program in Science Writing, had an epiphany that was years in the making.
“The classes I took in my last undergraduate semester changed my career goals, but it started with my grandfather,” she says when asked about what led her to science writing. She’d been studying comparative human development at the University of Chicago, which Hartley describes as “a combination of psychology and anthropology,” when she took courses in environmental writing and digital science communications.
“What if my life could be about learning more of life’s intricacies?” she thought.
Hartley’s grandfather introduced her to photography when she was younger, which helped her develop an appreciation for the natural world. Each summer, they would explore tide pools, overgrown forests, and his sprawling backyard. He gave her a camera and encouraged her to take pictures of anything interesting.
“Photography was a door into science journalism,” she notes. “It lets you capture the raw beauty of a moment and return to it later.”
Lasting impact through storytelling
Hartley spent time in Wisconsin and Vermont while growing up. That’s when she noticed a divide between rural communities and urban spaces. She wants to tell stories about communities that are less likely to be covered, and “connect them to people in cities who might not otherwise understand what’s happening and why.”
People have important roles to play in arresting climate change impacts, improving land management practices and policies, and taking better care of our natural resources, according to Hartley. Challenges related to conservation, land management, and farming affect us all, which is why she believes effective science writing is so important.
“We’re way more connected than we believe or understand,” Hartley says. “Climate change is creating problems throughout the entire agricultural supply chain.”
For her news writing course, Hartley wrote a story about how flooding in Vermont led to hay shortages, which impacted comestibles as diverse as goat cheese and beef. “When the hay can’t dry, it’s ruined,” she says. “That means cows and goats aren’t eating, which means they can’t produce our beef, milk, and cheese.”
Ultimately, Hartley believes her work can build compassion for others while also educating people about how everything we do affects nature and one another.
“The connective tissues between humans persist,” she said. “People who live in cities aren’t exempt from rural concerns.”
Creating connections with science writing
During her year-long study in the MIT Graduate Program in Science Writing, Hartley is also busy producing reporting for major news outlets.
Earlier this year, Hartley authored a piece for Ars Technica that explored ongoing efforts to develop technology aimed at preventing car collisions with kangaroos. As Hartley reported, given the unique and unpredictable behavior of kangaroos, vehicle animal detection systems have proven ineffective. That’s forced Australian communities to develop alternative solutions, such as virtual fencing, to keep kangaroos away from the roads.
In June, Hartley co-produced a story for GBH News with Hannah Richter, a fellow student in the science writing program. They reported on how and why officials at a new Peabody power plant are backtracking on an earlier pledge to run the facility on clean fuels.
The story was a collaboration between GBH News and the investigative journalism class in the science writing program. Hartley recalls wonderful experience working with Richter. “We were able to lean on each other’s strengths and learn from each other,” she says. “The piece took a long time to report and write, and it was helpful to have a friend and colleague to continuously motivate me when we would pick it back up after a while.”
Co-reporting can also help evenly divide what can sometimes become a massive workload, particularly with deeply, well-researched pieces like the Peabody story. “When there is so much research to do, it’s helpful to have another person to divvy up the work,” she continued. “It felt like everything was stronger and better, from the writing to the fact-checking, because we had two eyes on it during the reporting process.”
Hartley’s favorite piece in 2024 focused on beech leaf disease, a deadly pathogen devastating North American forests. Her story, which was later published in The Boston Globe Magazine, followed a team of four researchers racing to discover how the disease works. Beech leaf disease kills swiftly and en masse, leaving space for invasive species to thrive on forest floors. Her interest in land management and natural resources shines through in much of her work.
Local news organizations are an endangered species as newsrooms across America shed staff and increasingly rely on aggregated news accounts from larger organizations. What can be lost, however, are opportunities to tell small-scale stories with potentially large-scale impacts. “Small and rural accountability stories are being told less and less,” Hartley notes. “I think it’s important that communities are aware of what is happening around them, especially if it impacts them.”

Increasing Adoption of Liquid Sodium Silicate in Cleaning Products
The liquid sodium silicate solution is ideal in the composition of cleaning products, such as detergents and soaps, to prevent the emulsion of fats and organic oils, corrosion, alkalization, reduce the calcium, and minimize magnesium hardness. Furthermore, the deployment of liquid sodium silicate in cleaning products acts as an alkaline buffer, thereby ensuring the superior consistency and strength of the cleaning product against low and high acidic agents. The rising disposable income, growing awareness of the health benefits of a clean environment, increasing health consciousness, and rapid urbanization are some of the key trends accelerating the growth in the production of cleaning products.
For instance, according to the recent data published by the International Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance Products (A.I.S.E.), a European Union cleaning products association, in 2021, the cleaning products industry in the European region was valued at USD 34.0 billion and in 2022, it was USD 35.9 billion, showcasing a year-on-year growth rate of 5.2%. Likewise, the industrial cleaning sector in Europe was valued at USD 7.4 billion in 2021 and USD 9.2 billion in 2022, an annual growth rate of 19.1% as opposed to the year 2021. Therefore, the increase in the production of cleaning products is fueling the utilization of liquid sodium silicate to control viscosity, thereby propelling the market growth.
The Booming Building and Construction Activities is Amplifying the Market Growth
Liquid sodium silicate is an important material in the construction industry, particularly for producing concrete as a self-healing agent to improve the structure’s durability and strength. Additionally, liquid sodium silicate is used on concrete floors to harden them, leading to dust-free concrete floors and to shield previous building elements from the damaging effects of moisture. The increase in the development of new construction projects is ascribed to prominent determinants, such as increasing infrastructure development for airports, new office building development, increasing investment in residential houses in developing economies, and rising renovation activities.
For example, according to the recent statistics published by the Construction Products Association, a global association for the construction industry, the global construction industry registered a year-on-year growth rate of 2.8% in 2022. Furthermore, according to Statistics Canada, an official government of Canada website, Canada residential construction registered a monthly growth of 1.6%, reaching USD 11.9 billion in August 2023. Also, according to the recent statistics published in the 2023 European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC) report, the investments in European Union housebuilding projects were valued at USD 576,826.5 million in 2022, showcasing an annual growth rate of 2.2%. Henceforth, the rise in building and construction activities is spurring the demand for liquid sodium silicate, which, in turn, is boosting the market growth.
Beneficial Technical Properties of Liquid Sodium Silicate is Boosting the Market Growth
The key technical properties associated with liquid sodium silicate include a molecular weight of 140.08, density of 1.37 g/mL, melting point at 0°C, boiling point at 100°C, pH of 11-12.5 (20°C), and refractive index of 1.42. Thus, liquid sodium silicate is a viscous liquid that is deployed in a wide variety of applications, including as a deflocculant in casting slips, a cement for producing cardboard, a drilling fluid to stabilize borehole walls, and an adhesive for glass or porcelain. It is also used in powdered laundry and dishwasher detergents, as it aids in removing fats and oils, neutralizing acids, and breaking starches and proteins.
The recent innovations in cleaning products range are creating a lucrative opportunity for the liquid sodium silicate industry growth. For instance, in February 2023, Ecolab, a leading manufacturer of cleaning products at the global level, unveiled Ecolab Scientific Clean, the latest range of consumer retail product lines ideal for application in residential, industrial, and commercial facilities. The primary focus of the products is to ensure high-quality sanitization. Hence, the significant technical properties associated with liquid sodium silicate are fostering their adoption across a wide range of end-use industries, further augmenting the market growth.
The Revenue Advancement of Various End-use Industries in the Asia-Pacific Region
The Asia-Pacific region is experiencing substantial construction activities, driven by urbanization, infrastructure development, and population growth, which has increased demand for liquid sodium silicate in the construction industry. Furthermore, the demand for professional cleaning services is increasing in Asia-Pacific since consumers are becoming highly concerned about cleanliness and hygiene. As a result, the end-use industries, such as building & construction and cleaning products, are registering growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
For instance, China’s 14th Five-Year Plan focuses on energy efficiency, green building development, and urban renewal, with estimates of overall investment in new infrastructure during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). These developments indicate China’s commitment to and investment in the commercial space and construction industries by 2025. As a result, the growth of the various end-use industries in the Asia-Pacific is driving the growth of the liquid sodium silicate market in the region.
Impact of COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 resulted in revenue losses for various end-use industries, such as building and construction, oil and gas, and pulp, as the production activities were halted, the supply chain was disrupted, and there was a workforce shortage. The decline in the revenue growth of the above end-use industries resulted in losses for the liquid sodium silicate.
However, the demand for cleaning products was exponentially high as the need for hygiene products increased in 2020. For instance, according to the International Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance Products (A.I.S.E.), in 2020, the European cleaning products industry registered an annual growth rate of 4.7% compared to 2019. Hence, the sudden surge in the sales of cleaning products due to the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the market growth.
Impact of Russia-Ukraine War
The Russia-Ukraine war led to sanctions and supply chain disruptions, increased prices and product shortages, and environmental damage. These factors resulted in several major players exiting their business operations in Russia.
In March 2022, Procter & Gamble (P&G) announced the reduction of its product portfolio in the Russian market, focusing only on basic health, hygiene, and personal care items. The company also stated that it was ending all new capital investments in Russia and “significantly reducing” its portfolio to prioritize these essential products.

🍿 - your muse's door was the first one mine saw. my muse is injured. will your muse help a stranger? ( wanda )
wanda's been calling the quaint small town of grafton, vermont home for only a few short months. coming upon it out of wanting to disappear from everyone who might come looking for her and allowing herself to think it was possible, she fell in love with how out of time it felt. how detached from the rest of the world you could feel without any powerlines dangling over your head. traffic plugging the roads. thousands of people flooding every corner. gazes trailing after you on the sidewalk. expectations breathing down your neck. so? she stayed. thinking it'd be only for a little while. and the little while hasn't worn off yet.
there hasn't been many knocks on her door. a few welcoming her to the town. some visitors from the market who noted the newcomer and wanted to introduce themselves. a pastor who thought he'd invite her to church on sunday. the markings of a small town lifestyle that people needed to sate their curiosities as much as they needed to satisfy their want to be friendly and welcoming. she's been here long enough that they let her be now. on her long driveway that sits back off the road. it's easy to forget she's there.
which is why when she found him propped up against her door hurt? a slow churning in her stomach grew into a damn near cold-blooded panic. her initial thought was that someone put him there. that someone found her and was waiting for her to take a bait that they knew she would. because she wouldn't brush off some hurt and bleeding person who needed help just because she wanted to be left alone. it was with a clenched jaw but wide, surveying eyes she took him in. cautious calculation but trembling from worry hands that tended his wounds and made sure they were cleaned. the deepest were tethered together by means she only contributes to them being 'not as deep as she thought'. no magic involved. no not at all.
that was two days now. she's made sure he's gotten rest. made sure that he ate whenever he needed. always tending to those wounds with cleaning solutions and medicine given to her from the small town doctor and pharmacy. and, maybe, they worked a little too good. or maybe the doc knew what the hell he was doing after decades of practice. doesn't matter. she's never once questioned what brought him to her door. not until today. when the morning cracked through the window in rays that split apart through white, sheer curtains.
wanda was sitting at her kitchen table. black painted nails tapping against the ceramic mug filled with freshly brewed tea when caed appeared. green eyes lift and meet his. a smile greets him. just like an empty mug does between a filled coffee pot and a kettle of hot water.

Interim remedies such as soil removal or groundwater extraction attack pollution hot spots and contamination source areas where a spill occurred or, in the case of most military bases, toxic AFFF firefighting foam was used in training or emergency responses.
They are stopgap measures designed to stem the flow of contamination into rivers, lakes and groundwater while a larger, more encompassing remediation plan is developed. [...]
Besides Michigan, states with bases on the interim remedies list include Washington, Virginia, Vermont, Texas, South Dakota, South Carolina, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Dakota, New York, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Illinois, Colorado, California, Arizona and Alabama.
===
TL;DR - Following long-term pressure from Congress and the Pentagon, the DoD is putting interim solutions into action to help clean up contamination of groundwater around military bases and prevent future problems. This is currently happening in Michigan and is soon to be expanded to bases in multiple other states. The interim plans are basically a stopgap to start reversing existing damage while more permanent and effective solutions are found.

• A rare orchid, once thought to extinct for 120 years, was just rediscovered in Vermont.
• Medications designed to treat bone loss may also have a possible happy side effect: they seem to have the potential to lower the risk of ovarian cancer.
• Fog nets have begun to see use across Africa, and have generated copious amounts of water for people throughout the continent. They are looking to see if they can be used in California next!
• Houston has housed 25,000 homeless people with apartments of their very own!
• After being absent for almost 10 years, the most endangered type of sea turtle nested on a beach in Texas once more.
• The makers of Call of Duty had a goal to get 100,000 veterans in need into meaningful jobs… and they succeeded!
• More people have reported after the pandemic’s heaviest stretch, trust in their neighbours was higher than ever.
• The pandemic has also made people donate in higher numbers than ever before.
It’s not perfect and not a total distraction from everything that’s going on, but I thought it be nice to have something good out there to think about, too. Have a good day!
These are all very good and positive things, anon. Thank you for this <3

If you care about the environment, back Warren. Not Sanders.
I’m not an American, I’m a Brit. But what I’m about to say here is valid across all countries. It’s not your fault if what I’m about to say comes as a surprise to you, the main stream media have collectively failed to challenge and inform you about it.
A while back, Bernie Sanders posted this:
This is entirely accurate. Climate change is a major issue, and we need a competent strategy to deal with it.
Bernie also posted this:
This is disingenuous. Yes, we need to transform our energy systems, but there are many ways to do that. Some fall more to the ‘pragmatic’ side, similar to the UK’s stance (use gas to end coal, while building nuclear and offshore wind). Others are on the ‘purist’ side, such as Germany (No more fossil fuel capacity, phase out nuclear, wind and solar).
Bernie is a purist, and that’s bad.
This is the Vermont Yankee power station:
Built in the 1970′s, it produced 70% of Vermont’s (Bernie’s home state) electricity. It received an extension to run into the 2030′s but was shut down in 2014 due to being undercut by cheap gas power.
The US reactor fleet has a 100GW capacity, and produces 20% of the countries power. It is their largest source of carbon free power. By extending the plant licenses, a common and highly regulated practice, most of them could run safely into the 2030′s, 2040′s and, in some cases, 2050′s.
Many older reactors though suffer from a financial double whammy. On one side is cheap natural gas electricity, on the other is subsidised renewables. Providing financial assistance to keep these plants open is one of the cheapest ways of stopping more emissions.
Bernie Sanders opposes any license extensions, any financial help, and any new nuclear new build.
This is a NuScale SMR
It is a mass producible small reactor that is passively safe. It CAN’T melt down. It’ll be cheap, easy to build, and has been privately financed by a set of US companies. It is one year away from passing through the US licensing requirements, with the first plant planned for operation in 2026-2027.
Under Bernie Sanders plans, a decade of work and investment, and a potential critical tool in the fight against climate change, will be dealt a hammer blow.
But that’s not the only problem with Bernie:
The US shale revolution dealt a hammer blow to coal, allowing the country to meet the Kyoto protocol targets without even trying. Not only is it a vital transition fuel (until the last coal plant is shut down), but it’s got a strong future in a carbon neutral world.
This is a prototype Carbon Capture power plant
Like the Nuscale SMR’s, it’s a project that’s been ticking along in the background, pushed on by private backers. It uses the Allam Cycle, named after it’s inventor, to produce electricity at the same efficiency as current gas stations, alongside pipeline ready pure CO2.
I repeat, it’s carbon capture and storage at the same price as current electricity. This is a monster of a game changer, with the first commercial plants planned for 2022-2024.
Bernie Sanders, though, is opposed to CCS in all forms. Like nuclear, he calls it a false solution.
But couldn’t we run on renewables regardless?
Even if you feel concerned at a climate activist throwing away some of our best tools, you might feel that their drive towards the solution more than makes up for it. After all, you can run the country on wind and solar, can’t you?
Well, you can. But it’s nigh on impossible to do so.
Despite what climate activists tell you, the wind isn’t always blowing everywhere:
Above is a graph showing the change in wind production from season to season. Below is a closer look at how wind production across Europe (I couldn’t find one for the USA) can nosedive at the same time. Madrid is as far away from Helsinki as New York is from Los Angeles. Even across a continent, the wind isn’t always blowing everywhere.
Solar, meanwhile, varies everywhere according to the seasons. In northern latitudes such as the UK, a solar panel might produce ten times more power in the summer as in the winter. Even in California, solar in the summer can produce 1.5-2X what it does in the winter.
Which, in southern desert states, is good. They need little heating in the winter, and aircon in the summer. Big desert solar arrays at low latitudes are a good source of energy. Less efficient, inherently badly optimised and far more expensive rooftop solar further north (where you need lots of winter heating) are about as useful as Mao’s backyard furnaces were at making steel.
But what about batteries?
I’m sure many people will now talk about storing power. However, the idea that we can economically do this (similar to the idea that the wind is always blowing) is probably one of the most successful bits of fake news ever spun. Let me illustrate.
This is Vogtle units 3 and 4:
With a project cost of $17 billion, renewable energy enthusiasts like to paint it as a perfect example of the failures of modern nuclear.
This is Tesla’s Big battery:
Costing $50 million USD, Renewable enthusiasts like to paint it as a triumph of renewables.
The big battery stores 129mwh of electricity, which equates to $387 per kwh of storage. Or, $0.387 billion per Gwh. For $17 billion, you get 44 Gwh of storage.
Vogtle will produce that same amount of energy in just over 18 hours.
Even if you use the most expensive, finance inclusive, cost for Vogtle, it will still fill the equivalent storage potential in 29 hours.
To run a fully intermittent grid, we’d need days if not weeks of storage. Or, we could spend a fraction of that money on nuclear power, and be done.
But what about pumped Hydro?
Again, let’s use a sense of scale to explain how much you’d need. Something big, like this:
Lake Erie and Ontario are separated in elevation by 99m. Assuming you use dams and locks to turn them into a giant upper and lower reservoir, how much energy could you store?
By draining 1m of water from the smaller Ontario, and pumping it into Erie, you could store 4,600GWH of electricity.
The US uses around 2,740 per day on average. So you’d have a viable short-term store for the entire country. It wouldn’t be seasonal storage.
The equivalent storage using batteries would cost over $1.38 trillion. This is enough for 81 Vogtle plants. They would have 194GW of capacity, and produce 4196GWH a day.
Using Nuscale SMR’s at the current quoted price (which could come down if you get a dedicated assembly line going) you could get 328 GW of capacity.
What about seasonal storage?
In countries with winter heating seasons, you need a reliable source of energy or people will freeze and die. Even with Nuclear, you’re at the peak of energy requirements, so it’s uneconomical to build to that point.
Instead, you can use biogas, biomass and waste to energy. Stockpiling your fuel throughout the year, you can burn it when most needed. Even better, in many cases you can convert existing fossil fuel plants.
Credit where credit is due, Bernie Sanders is pro bio-energy (as opposed to some (even purer) greens). At the same time, he is anti-waste to energy.
So what is the point of this?
The point is that we can’t simply add ‘Wind, solar, batteries’ and get an energy system that works. There are serious technological limitations and economic realities. Long term energy storage is incredibly cost prohibitive. The wind doesn’t always blow everywhere. In any case, if we only have a short time to stop emitting carbon, why shoot your biggest contributor of green energy at the same time?
Germany lost a decade due to its closure of its reactors, and still has some of Europe's dirtiest electricity. Had they closed the Lignite plants in North-Rhine Westphalia instead, they’d of cut their emissions while opening up giant pits like the Hambach mine for conversion into pumped storage sites. I’ve done the calculations, they could run the country for half a day on that level of storage.
In contrast, France is the only developed country to turn a dirty grid into a clean grid. They did it decades ago with nuclear, but there are those in power who want to shut reactors down early. They don’t care that they can build out renewables anyway, and export the extra energy or use it for transport. They care more about killing nuclear than saving the planet.
This is why Warren is better than Sanders.
Elizabeth Warren wants a green new deal and medicaid for all, just like Sanders. Unlike him, she’s open to keeping the US nuclear fleet going. She’s open to new reactors and CCS. Both have a plan and a drive, but hers is open to more options and focuses on what the real enemy is. Bernie is a purist. Purism sounds good. But wherever you look, it’s the pragmatists that have always performed better.
I care strongly about the environment and global warming, which is why, if I could, I’d vote for Warren. Because you can’t say that global warming is the biggest threat we face and then throw away our best tools against it.
