A little sketch of Ven and his family at the point when he was still in the Underdark... I might continue developing this sketch if even just for me, but I enjoyed trying to get everyone's basic look and feel down :> I put a bunch more info on them under the readmore

The house Ven'axtha belonged to is called House Zau'ar. House Zau'ar's main contribution is creating specialty potions and potent poisons. I would say that they are not *technically* a noble house (at least quite yet). The way Venny describes it when he's older is "A bunch of commoners somehow managing to claw their way up, step by step, on a long staircase to what's most likely nothing".

Essentially, House Zau'ar is one of a few seed houses in a small settlement that's connecting a bunch of raiding routes. Shuraste (and Elaug'onim) founded it; Shuraste is a commoner and Elaug'onim is the son of a minor house noble, both from the same larger drow city (that I haven't named yet). Shuraste is a poisoner who managed to become a relatively accomplished priestess, brimming with charm and ambition. Elaug'onim is kind of a middling wizard who's real strength lies in his cunning and thirst for advancement; he's more or less filling the role of both House Wizard and Patron right now.

Mavnay is their eldest daughter, who strives a bit too hard to further her Matron's drive. She trained with all resources available to her to become a priestess of Lolth. She's a formidable foe and good in a fight, known to be unrelenting and determined. Unfortunately she has noticeably more ambition than sense and foresight, a fact to which she isn't blind to. It's something that makes her unreasonably nervous about the stability of her position, and it's what drives her dislike of + attempts to sabotage Alaunidil.

Alaunidil (later renaming himself Ven'axtha after realizing he's trans) is their second daughter (at this point at least). I know Alaunidil's age as depicted here; somewhere around 30 years old, so still a young drow. Alaunidil was training to become a proper alchemist after Mavnay didn't show much knack for it, though it was planned for her to later on become a priestess as well. She's very cunning and clever, skills cultivated by Elaug'onim, but a bit too proud and motivated largely by doing what's most advantageous to herself (and to a lesser degree, Kiri).

Kirieylin is the youngest child and only son of the house. He's very young here, about 10 years old. He's still shy and quiet, and trying as best he can to meet both the House's and Alaunidil's expectations of him. Kiri and Alaunidil were born very close together, both a blessing and a curse in the eyes of their Matron; more members means a stronger house, but two children so close together meant that a lot of time and resources were going towards raising them. That is to say, her options were to have Mavnay out of commission to raise a child again, only two decades after the previous one, or to let Alaunidil take primary caregiver role. It ended up being given to Alaunidil, who took the opportunity to essentially raise Kiri to be her personal assistant.

I really hope the only reason Kairi has not been at the forefront of kh is because, like nomura often does with the series, he didn’t write a specific and concrete story for her so she could be used at a later point that fit her and the story more and gave him room to really work her in.

She’s the only main character in the series that we truly know basically nothing about which is bananas considering her significance to the story. She’s been a Princess of Heart since the beginning of this story and yet we hardly know what being a Princess of Heart even means? While we really don’t know much about the pasts of most of the main characters we at least know other aspects of their life and personality and abilities because of the journeys we went through with them.

Sure, we don’t know Aqua and Terra’s past and what life on the Land of Departure was like but we’re intimately familiar with their image of themselves, how they view morality and righteousness, their fears and shame and ambitions.

With Roxas, Naminé, and Xion we genuinely know every aspect of their life because we were there for it.

With Riku and Sora we’ve had deep dives (literally) into their subconscious. We’ve seen the worst sides of themselves and the best. We know their morals, their hopes, their feelings. They are easily the two main characters we know the most about.

Even Ven, though his past before and between Khux and BSS is still missing and he’s the most elusive of the main cast, we know about the things he’s chosen to hide from or forgotten against his will. We know about Vanitas and how he was abused by Xehanort (which even Terra and Aqua don’t know much about). We saw his struggle with jealousy and desire and we’ve seen the extent of his anger and his love.

But Kairi? We know a handful of things about her and most of them are just facts, not decisions she’s made or many aspects of her personality. Of Kairi we know,

•She was from Radiant Garden (KH1)

•She’s a Princess of Heart (KH1)

•Her grandma told her about the legend of Worlds and Light, which is connected to the Age of Fairytales (KH1)

•She enjoys writing letters, specifically to Sora (KH2)

•She trained with Axel under Merlin (KH3)

•She is the one who held onto Sora’s image and brought him back / kept him safe (KH1/3)

•She feels strongly about Naminé and thinks she deserves to exist (KH3)

•She was experimented on by Terranort and had her memories messed with (MoM)

And… that’s really it. Of course there are little, nuanced moments scattered throughout the series but they’re very small and rare that it really doesn’t add up to much. Melody of Memory gave us the most tease of the kind of person Kairi is beyond being kind and that’s 18~ years after she was first introduced.

What does Kairi look like at the end of her rope? How does she react under duty and responsibility? What makes her laugh, cry, sentimental? What insecurities does she have? Has she struggled with darkness? What would that look like to her? In depth, how does she feel being left behind beyond “it makes me sad?” There are so many questions to be asked of Kairi’s character and it feels too intentional for her to have “conveniently been forgotten” all this time. Out of 10 protagonists and dozens of other characters both major and minor, she’s the only one with minimal motivations and expressed emotions?

To me it feels like Nomura’s been waiting for the right place to put her and I really hope it’s true because Kairi has SO MUCH POTENTIAL. As a Princess of Heart, as a keyblade wielder, as a student, as a friend, as a person. And it feels like she’s just WAITING to be utilized. I really hope that finally that can happen for her because I know when it does it’ll be phenomenal.

When I first decided upon the setting of CAI, I would become inspired by the Italian Renaissance. Because I included Pale Fire into the world and have it set BEFORE Cold as Ice, CAI now has 18th century technology, weaponry, and clothing.

The architecture is still inspired by the Renaissance, as well as the Olessan cultural, artistic, political, and economic rebirth.

The layout of the city of Olessa has three sections: The Dregs (slums), The Olessan Forum (merchants, temples), and Summas Hill (where the nobility live). Summas hill has man-made canals. These flow over a retaining wall into the Olessan Forum, creating an island like structure that houses the Temple of Amés. Amés is the patron deity of the Olessan Empire.

Silver dragons love the company of humans and will often take the form of an old man or a young maiden. Brennan's preferred human form is a middle-aged man with dark stubble, white hair, and striking gray eyes.

Silver dragons hate injustice and cruelty, but they do not go out of their way to punish or ferret out people who may pose a threat to the world. They are more concern with protecting innocent people and healing their wounds, unless their territory, mate, or offspring are threatened. Brennan is only prodded into action when Amés' offers him a deal to spend the afterlife with his lifemate in whatever way he sees fit.

If their true form has a scar, it does carry over to their other form. This is why Brennan is seen with a scar over his eye. He is blind in that eye and lost his depth perception. His other senses overcompensate, and he can sense his surroundings by utilizing his knowledge of body magick.

By preforming a ritual with blood magick, Alystin becomes a dragon knight. This allows her to have some resistance to the cold, as well as sense when other dragons are nearby. Dragon Knights are unheard of, and Brennan initially protested as many do not survive the initial changing. The Dragon's blood tends to overwhelm the host.

For the Dragon Knight, I was inspired by the classic tales of turning a human into a vampire. The only difference is that the host does not become undead. Having the dragon's dna merge with a human's is a painful process with sees the person running a fever and passed out for as much as two weeks.

The Glorendt Kingdom is based upon 18th - 19th century England. Cities are dirty and overcrowded. It is common to see children toiling away in Workhouses for very little pay. Life was very regimented, controlled, and monotonous as all workers wore uniforms.

The naming conventions of Glorendt follows Irish and Norse naming conventions. Each Glorendine has a given name. Seamus Jorinuson' given name is Darby. Annie will sometimes refer to him as such.

Seamus had his heart broken by Anabelle, and he moved on by starting a friends-with-benefit relationship with his instructor Rosette. Shae would tell Annie that something died within him when he didn't show up in Tokus, and he will never have a legitimate relationship again.

Shae can utilize the ven to allow him to use body magick. He can only heal minor cuts and abrasions as he is not trained. When Annie is injured and they need to get to the surgeon, he attempts to heal her and exchanges some of his life force for hers. She passes out on the way to Jorinuson Manor.

Annie knows that Shae loves to eat, and she loves to cook and bake. During their "friends" phase, she makes several treats for him: dishes like pancakes, pain perdu, and roasted meats. He once said that she was going to turn him into a foppish, Olessan man.

Personality- Lyssa is very impulsive, reckless, and quick to anger. One of her favorite things to do is wreak havoc and cause trouble. Seeing a calm, relaxed happy smile on her face is a rare sight. She doesn't see the fuss with minor gods (being one herself) having a more important role in the Olympian government. She describes herself as a "chaotic bisexual." She’s currently single.

Lyssa lives in a loft in the Little Sparta neighborhood of New Olympus and she also owns a small riverside cottage (by the river Acheron) in the Underworld. She really admires and respects her mother Atë (goddess of mischief, ruin, blind folly, delusion, & downfall of heroes). She's close to her older sister Mania (goddess of insanity). Even though she rags on him, she does genuinely care for her little brother Thrasos (god of boldness, insolence, recklessness, & courage).

She's aware (and doesn't really care) about her nearly non-existent approval rating by the majority of people in Olympius. Due to her nihilistic and brute nature, Lyssa has burned many bridges with the other gods, even Hestia (goddess of the hearth). She does have a small following on Fatestagram, but she thinks it's due to the photos she posted of herself wearing a black leather bodysuit.

She's also a DJ, performing under the name "Lady Venom," taking inspiration from Ares' nickname for her.

She has the standard abilities of a goddess- except shapeshifting. As the goddess of rage and frenzy, she can induce rabies in humans or animals as punishment. She can also induce a blinding rage in other people. She can communicate with all species of dogs and wolves.  

Her go-to drink is a bloody mary. She also likes dark cherry flavored soda, tequila, and beer.

Her favorite ice cream treat is black cherry ice cream on a chocolate charcoal cone. She also likes dark cherry-lime flavored lollipops!

She's good friends with Kakia (goddess of vice & moral wrongdoing), Eris (goddess of strife & discord), Lykos (goddess of wolves), Ganymede (god of homosexual love & desire), Bia (goddess of force & power), Hecate (goddess of magic & witchcraft), Keres (goddess of violent death), Nerissa (goddess of jellyfish), Pannychis (goddess of nightlife festivities), Diochetévo (goddess of sewers, garbage, & waste), Neféloma (goddess of space & dark matter), Methe (goddess of drunkenness), Alala (goddess of the war cry), The Furies, and Nemesis (goddess of retribution). Lyssa hasn't quite warmed up to her mother's girlfriend Limos (goddess of starvation & famine), but she doesn’t necessarily dislike her.

Her official mentor was Enyo (goddess of war, destruction, bloodlust, & devastation).

Lyssa's only serious relationship was with Ares (god of war). They were together for a few years before things ended between them, their break-up resulting in five blocks of damage in New Olympus. They've recently reached out to each other to make amends & are slowly starting a friendship.

She used to have a raging crush on Menoetius (Titan god of rage, violence, & rash actions). Her current crush is Koros (god of surfeit & disdain).

Lyssa owns a couple of businesses (pertaining to dogs) as well as having her own line of hot sauces (Volcanic Pepper Sauce). For other work, Lyssa models for/endorses Hot Intoxication, atelier fantaisie, and La Petit Amour.

Her go-to meal is fire noodles, a few dynamite sushi rolls, and a big juicy steak (cooked medium well) with spicy barbeque drizzled on top.

She owns a collection of electric guitars, knives, and guns.

Lyssa is a HUGE animal lover (particularly dogs). She has quite the number of pets. They're three rottweilers named Diablo, Spike, and Venom, two pitbulls named Cutter and Dagger, a bloodhound named Pickles, and finally four german shepherds named Jalapeño, Sriracha, Ares jr, and Skully.

An article on s4 indicated a reddit theory of W*ll as s5 boss, I have not read it but it resonated after seeing S3 & S4 part 1 back to back. I don't really want this theory to be real, I'd prefer an internal battle of the magic children from the lab vs their killer. However the odd passive characterisation of W*ll in S3 & 4 lead me to think he's the key.

A recurring theme in ST is that when someone or something psychically reaches out, the link goes both ways. W*ll was able to see the m*ndflayer, El saw B*lly's strongest memories. In 1979 v*cna entered a formless dimension and slowly recreated important elements to himself in a disjointed way. In 19*83 this dimension encountered the sensitive and incredibly powerful imagination of W*ll B*ers and began to shape itself. The m*ndflayer worked for v*cna or vice versa seeking out El*ven but the psychic link to W*ll's mind shaped the landscape and the rules of the upside-d*wn and only W*ll can end it. A part of his psyche inhabits the upside-d*wn, i don't think it has intentionality like v*cna's drive to rule the world but it has a great power. He must accept that grieving scared child as a part of himself and embrace love or killing v*cna and closing the gate won't end things. The painting is a revelation. He might be gay, he might be emotionally trapped in 1983-1984 before everything went wrong, he might be both. He is incomplete without the part of himself that lives over there or the healing he needs to do. Part of the story may be that v*cna entered a goblin king style deal or that part of his strong mind gives power to v*cna beyond his pathetic sadism and wish to reshape the world. W*ll's subconscious will is the final boss or a key piece in the mechanics of the upside down. The choice of Alan Turing as his historical hero is two fold, he was gay, bullied but he was a visionary like W*ll the wise most importantly he believed that the mind could be recreated. I think there is a replica or a shaping of the psychic dimension 'in his image' or mirroring the frightened mind used to taking refuge in fantasy. The dgorgons existed before him, v*cna and the m*ndflayer did too, they just floated in a void not a mirror image, the UD existed as fragmented images from the victims until full psychic contact gave fantasy rules, options for escape and the detailed landscapes. Children don't develop full compassion until their mid teens, their minds can be shortsighted and selfish, it's a fascinating area of psych study especially in cases of minors committing acts of cruelty, child soldier emotional arrested development, teen brain injury and anti social tendancies that dissappear with adulthood, we're talking gang recruits, cult recruits, hate groups... a young mind can be relentlessly focused on survival to the exclusion of all others, a concept that's very bleak but very human. Part of growing up is finding out that a childhood friend turned into a violent person. Again, I don't want this storyline but it lines up with an era marked by some violent teen crimes that we have not reckoned with as a society wrt to ages of responsibility and rehabilitation.

Was j*nathan also neglected storywise? No he's made the in character choice to not leave his family and drag down n*ncy's potential and it's making him sad. He's taken a father role, hopefully S5 allows him to trust his brother's strength.

Basics

Name: Vendryth

Nickname: Ven to friends. He also has a number of tacky nicknames in the various small localities he helped out over the years: The Golden Traveler, The Dragon, Trollslayer, Midwinter Hero, ET CETERA ET CETERA. To Neris he is ‘Grandpa’.

Age: Died at age 326. Born 1E 2594, died in 1E 2920. Is Neris’s resident ghost as of 2E 582.

Race: Dunmer

Class: Battlemage and restoration master

Physical Traits

Height: 6ft

Weight: 210 lbs

Hair: Auburn, pulled back in a long braid.

Eyes: Red

Skin: Dark blueish grey

Distinctive features: Full Van Dyke-style beard. A lot of assorted scars from 300+ years of Fighting Things. Really big gaudy dragon tattoo on his chest.

Mannerisms: He has a confident ease moving and existing in the world, and he definitely takes up space in a lounging sort of way. He also tends to relate to people physically—SHOULDER SLAPPER sort of guy.

Voice: Friendly and booming. Bit gravelly but refined.

Fashion: He likes ornate armors and likes to keep ‘em shiny. In the day to day however, he dresses very simply...keeps his shirt collar as open as possible...

Emotional Traits

Personality: He’s very personable and very willing to help people, to the degree that he is prone to butting into situations that initially don’t involve him. He almost never turns down requests for help and can quickly shift to adapt to situations that call for his attention. He tries to behave honorably, though he hasn’t always done so in his interpersonal relationships in the past and is awkward in coming to terms with that.

Likes a good time. Is boisterous and rollicking and sometimes has an air about him that he doesn’t take things seriously, even though as said above, he can rapidly switch gears to handle grave situations. He’s chummy with everyone. A bit flirtatious & slutty. A pro at entertaining swaths of children. Good at calming horses.

He’s very vain, though not arrogant. He’s surprised if someone isn’t impressed by him, but not upset or offended. He does Heroics partly because he has the ability to and thinks it's the right thing to do, but also because he likes the attention. Likes being fawned over. Doesn’t wanna wear a helmet to cover his pretty face.

Religion / Belief system: He more-or-less adheres to the Tribunal (much to the chagrin of Grandson Neris). He doesn’t believe them to be Actual Gods and thus doesn’t ‘worship’ them, but does recognize and respect them as powerful leaders and has no problem serving their will when it comes to the defense of Morrowind. He later became one of Vivec's Buoyant Armigers, and was quite reverent to both Vivec and Almalexia.

He’s wary of all Daedra. Just expects them to be troublesome and either doesn’t involve himself or actively works against them. He’s pretty straight-laced about all that.

Lifestyle

Background: He was born into a minor family in House Telvanni. Despite his lack of Notable Lineage, he proved to be very magically adept, especially in matters of restoration magic. In his early 20s he married a woman named Tendreni Ilyiil. Their marriage was a strategic one centered more on solidifying future power than anything else—his skills, and her more powerful family connections. It didn’t work out, particularly as Vendryth’s interests turned more towards being a healer rather than the acquisition of knowledge or power. He wasn’t good at communicating that it wasn’t working out however. He decided instead to simply abandon Tendreni and their infant child and forgo any connections to his house. While he would come to regret that action as he got older, he never made amends, feeling too much time had passed for it to mean anything.

Over the decades he worked with both the Mages and Fighters guild, intensely studying Restoration but also battle techniques and becoming quite powerful through the ranks as a result. Initially he took contracts through the Fighter’s Guild to assist people. Then he became a bit of a Freelance Hero around Tamriel, chasing the high of Minor Glories in numerous regions. His mastery of Restoration magic enabled him to slow his aging considerably.

His work took on a more concentrated effort when he was a little over 100 years old, in defense efforts against the first Akaviri invasion that earned him recognition among his peers. He would continue to serve in Morrowind's military for a time, and then more specifically for Vivec as a Buoyant Armiger. Through this work he had the flexibility to continue his Pro Bono Heroics around Tamriel, but would respond to calls back home when needed.

By 2840 he was back to his military engagements, operating as a high-ranking healer during the Four Score War. While certainly not always on the front, he was involved for the entire 80 engagement and managed to live through it as a decorated veteran. Unfortunately when Mournhold was sacked shortly after, Vendryth lost his head to one of Mehrunes Dagon’s army while trying to heal someone.

He had an honorable burial in Necrom, though not in the Ilyiil tomb. However, simmering generational anger over his initial abandonment of his first family led to his ghost being tracked down by Ilyiil ancestor spirits who then bound him to protect the family tomb. He was there for 600 years, and lost considerable parts of his memory and identity as the notion of being stuck there for eternity became intolerable and his emotional and mental state deteriorated. He was forgotten by everyone, beyond a few obscure scholars of specific military history, as the people who remembered him died. He became a very angry and violent spirit until he ran into Neris who was reconciling with his own feelings about his family and sense of abandonment. Neris ended up helping to free Vendryth and established a shrine for him in his own house. Kindred spirits in many ways, Neris’s companionship helped Vendryth get a lot of himself back, and Vendryth also helps Neris take his final steps away from House Telvanni.

Place of residence: In life he lived in a fancy Hall just outside Mournhold. As a ghost he hangs out in a dedicated corner of Neris’s library in Middle Of Nowhere Vvardenfell.

Occupation: Local Hero™, Buoyant Armiger, battlefield healer

Habits: He’s very particular about his appearance...a Preener. Will absolutely fuss over his reflection in a breastplate he’s shining. Winds down with smoking assorted combos of psychoactive herbs in the evenings. Tends to touch people’s arms or has a hand on their shoulder or something when he’s talking to them.

Hobbies: Adventuring (and long walks through impressive landscapes), gathering up all the local rumors, fishing, musical inclinations, reading a small always-rotating collection of books he finds in his travels and then leaves at the last inn he stayed at once he finishes them.

Likes: Campfire stories or collective songs i.e. activities that include a lot of people, theater, retelling his adventures, being recognized, quaint little towns with warm rooms.

Dislikes: Having to be sneaky or anonymous in any way (he’ll DO subtlety and anonymity if it is required of him but UGHHHH!), having to constantly confront the mortality/death of people around him, feeling ‘kept’ by anyone, losing sleep for any reason, having to skip meals.

Goals: His interests move from ‘I want people to know who I am and I want stories to be told about me’ notions of fame, and as he gets older it turns more into ‘I want to do what I feel is right and will help people’. He always appreciates public admiration and relishes in it, but ends up feeling a greater responsibility over where he stands in life and how he can contribute.

Relationships

Orientation: Straight, ish. He’s attracted to women, but he’d be flattered and wouldn’t necessarily say no if propositioned by another gender. But the actual attraction wouldn’t be there.

Relationship status: Had a long string of romances and families across the continent, as well as one dedicated long-term partnership with a General in the Four Score War that was his last relationship. As a ghost…..he’s a ghost…

Notable Relationships:

He fathered 37 children (that he knows of) over his first couple centuries. While he was never completely absent, he definitely wasn’t involved in parenting. He’d write everyone, he’d make sure everyone was materially supported, he’d show up and stay for a few weeks at a time with gifts and stories, but wasn’t much of an Active Partner. He very much considered everyone family and had no personal sense of relationship decay over time; this was met with varying degrees of agreement, acceptance, indifference, sorrow, anger, and resentment across all the different parties.

He grew to be a more somber man once he realized he was outliving them all. Not just partners, but a number of his children too.

Tendreni Ilyiil: His first wife. Their relationship was one of circumstance, duty, and politics. They were quite formal with each other, and had differing senses of ambition. When Vendryth left Tendreni was furious about it, largely because of the principle of the thing rather than because she experienced much hardship without him (though raising an infant more on her own was something she was very angry about, though there was family help for her there). She didn’t feel a loss with him gone. She thought he was a childish coward and wrote him off almost immediately for it. She moved on, but her parents harbored a more significant grudge, as did her child to an even greater degree, especially as Vendryth’s name became more widely known and celebrated. These ancestor spirits, rather than Tendreni, were the ones who ended up binding his ghost to the tomb.

Neris Ilyiil: His great great great great grandson, of Tendreni’s line, who ended up saving him from his spectral imprisonment. Vendryth is very fond of Neris and sees quite a bit of himself in the boy. He loves exchanging adventure stories with him, even though Neris’s tend to be a bit different. He’s grateful for Neris’s help and is also more than willing to provide a sense of encouragement, family, and guidance to him. 600 years in a tomb means he lost the threads of all the rest of his family members and doesn’t know where any other descendants are. As a result he’s really close to Neris because Neris is the only thing that makes him feel like he still...Existed at one time.

Lady General whom we are still working on a name for: A General who Vendryth served under in the Four Score War. She initially thought he was underwhelming which he found…completely baffling and intriguing and his conclusion was ‘she is underwhelmed by me not because I’m NOT great, but because clearly she has done something greater and now I need to find out about it’. Was deeply curious about her from the beginning. Rather than his earlier relationships that were built on initial physical attraction and his usual ‘I am going to charm her with my Gallant Hero Energy’, he grew close to her out of circumstance first and then utter respect and admiration for her as they worked together. She was his sense of grounding through the whole war and was the first person he was actually In Love with. He hoped the relationship would continue beyond the war—that he kept thinking would end the next year, and then the next year, etc. It was unrelenting and he likely wouldn’t have stayed if not for this partnership. He felt it was worth all the enduring hardship. She saw to his burial after the destruction of Mournhold.
