Happy birthday @yeloenk!!!
I've been following you for a while and I absolutely love your art and am very inspired by it!
Everytime I would get a notification about you posting a new one, it would make my day instantly 10 times better.
Also I wanted to draw Vellum for a while and this was a good enough excuse to do so. Hope I got her right :-)
Take care <3

Vellum Redesign!
Tumblr media
I've been shifting my focus back to Vellum, since she was kinda just left on the backburner...
And, revisiting the first ever design of her I made a few months ago, it was way too cluttered & difficult for people (including myself) to draw. So, I wanted to try again, this time keeping in mind her character & what would actually make sense for her!
Overall, just tried to make her design much simpler while still conveying important themes.
Previously, I had two seperate designs for Vellum: a battle armour outfit, and a casual one. Instead of having two separate outfits she wears at work/out in public, I decided to cut it down to one. She wears casual, comfy clothes at home, of course.
I kept the save-point star motif, but added it in more effective areas, since that's what PJ's soul is and her soul is in the same shape! (I'll make a visual for that, eventually.) To simplify her scarf, I removed the star-stripes pattern and put big, white ones on the ends instead.
The sun emblem on her chest signifies her high status in the Paragon.
This design is her final, official design!!
And, that's all for my ramblings!!! Have Vellum and Giby art my friend @bluepr1ntyy drew :333 (+Vel expression doodles)

A little comic I did of my oc Vellum with Lycaon. This is one of their quiet little flirting rituals after getting more confident about their crush.

vellum & family doodles :-)
random fun facts about vell's childhood:
i like to think PJ would be very eager to raise a child to heal his inner child by giving her the childhood they never had <3
dream and cross are very good grandparents and active in lux's life. cross is moreso, since dream is still the guardian of positivity and has to keep up his duties!
cross spoils tf out of vellum. she's his lil princess just like how lux was when she was little 🫶🫶
nerdy uncle gradient definitely plays video games with her. they be mario carting all day fr!!!!

Transparent Desires
Random Passions is a mesmerizing pas de deux crafted by Chicago book binder and book artist Karen Hanmer. Created in 2008 in Glenview, Illinois, it is an artist’s book comprised of laser prints on vellum paper, printed in an edition of one hundred. The enticing red velvet book cover whispers hints of romance hidden within. As the artist herself describes: “Couples from romance novel covers traced on translucent paper layer together and multiple new combinations emerge.”
This piece celebrates the essence of romance without using any words. It effectively conjures tales of passion, heartache, and love conquering all. The distinguished American book artist Barbara Tetenbaum observes:
Karen Hanmer exploits both materials . . . and format . . . to create her orgy of embracing figures. . . . It thrills me to think of the hot action these couples get being so closely bound between the book’s red covers!
Sizzle!

Wordy Wednesday
Vellum: Another term for parchment. Vellum is sometimes used to refer specifically to parchment made of calf skin or lamb skin, but this usage is not very consistent. Calves and lambs, being younger, tended to produce higher-quality parchment without many blemishes and so their skins were in high demand. The term “uterine vellum” is used to refer to parchment made from the skin of unborn calves or lambs. Some early books were printed on vellum rather than paper as luxury commodities.

Provenance mysteries: Opera, quae exstant L. Annaei Seneca
Tumblr media
This edition’s provenance mystery features a three volume set of the collected work of Seneca: Opera, quae exstant L. Annaei Senecae ; cum integris Justi Lipsii, J. Fred. Gronovii, & selectis variorum commentariis illustrata ; accedunt Liberti Fromondi in quæstionum naturalium libros & [apokolokuntosin] notæ & emendationes, printed by Daniel Elzevir in Amsterdam in 1672. It includes commentaries by the noted Dutch humanist Justus Lipsius and botanist Johannes Fredericus Gronovius amongst others.
Tumblr media
As can be seen in the photograph, the book is bound in vellum over boards with a gold-tooled armorial crest on the front (and back) boards. The coat-of-arms has the motto ‘Honi soit qui mal y pense,’ part of the British royal motto, and also used by knights and ladies of the Order of the Garter. The coat-of-arms is probably easily identifiable by someone with the knowledge and skills, but remains a mystery to this writer. There is no other provenance information in the book itself, and no record of its acquisition by the Library.
The book was published during the period when Daniel Elzevir worked with his cousin Louis Elzevir in Amsterdam, printing and publishing a range of classical Latin texts in octavo format, such as this one. The gilt armorial stamp and vellum binding sets this book apart from many of the books in our collection, which tend to have undecorated calf bindings. Vellum and parchment bindings are commonly found in continental libraries, but their presence is not as common in seventeenth century English libraries. Vellum was an expensive material to use as well, suggesting that this was a high status item for its owner.
The book features in the Library’s current exhibition: Mapping the Early Modern Inns of Court. This exhibition highlights some of the areas that the ‘Mapping the Early Modern Inns of Court’ group has explored in seminars and publications: recreation (fencing, revelling, and gaming); literary culture at the Inns; religion and preaching; learning the law and verbal skills; travel and exploration endeavours. Barristers regarded Seneca as a model orator and lawyer, and they frequently studied, quoted, and translated his works. They were taught Senecan verse while still at school, and continued to study, and translate his works as adults.
As ever, if you recognise this armorial device or have further comments please get in touch: [email protected].
