It’s #cowappreciationday … a cute holiday one would think was about celebrating the magical beings that are #cows, but which was really invented as a marketing tactic by fast food giant Chick-fil-a, a company that regularly mocks sentient beings and sells their murdered bodies by the millions. Though the in-store event has been postponed this year, it’s typically celebrated with families dressing as cows and “saving their lives” for the day by eating chickens instead (they apparently go back to eating cows the next day when they’re no longer dressed like them). The company joke of a cow telling people to “Eat More Chikin” is in bad taste at best, but disgustingly tragic when one begins to understand how unique, loving, and deserving of their lives both cows and chickens are. Most people celebrate this fast food “holiday” not because they are cruel, but simply because they don’t know any better and it seems fun and silly. Because of this, one of the most important jobs of sanctuaries is to help educate about and advocate for these gentle beings who cannot speak up for themselves. Please stop eating animals. Please choose plant-based products. Please come cuddle a chicken, hug a cow, and reject the powerful companies, big ag lobbyists, and clever marketing ploys that sell cruelty. The world needs more kindness. Sacramento SPCA turns its back on farmed animals.

Let's show the Sacramento SPCA why an animal-friendly menu policy is awesome. 

Post a photo of your companion chicken, goat, cow, sheep, goat, dog, cat, rabbit— any animal, really— to your FB timeline and TAG the shelter (@Sacramento_SPCA). Or post to their timeline. Ask them to stop serving the bodies of the animals you love to benefit dogs and cats in the shelter. 

Background: The Sacramento SPCA maintained a meat-free menu policy for their shelter events for years, until new CEO Kenn Altine reversed the progressive policy...making Sac SPCA the first shelter in the nation to do so. Ouch!
