Camilo secretly feels insecure that his transformation powers are not as good as his mom's and that his true form isn't more basilisk-looking.

so I've seen it in your fics so I just wanted to ask: what was the appeal of Clarvee?

There's not really a nice way to put this: It's Lumity 5178 for the TOH fandom. It's a weird, quirky-ish girl with a bully. For the brief moment it caught the fascination of the fandom, that was essentially the pitch but with one big addition and one big drawback: It had a fuckton more angst... But now you had to write an OC.

Part of what was compelling to me as a writer was this fact that it's kind of an original form of Lumity because we know very little about Vee and we knew fucking nothing about Clara besides her having been around for many of Luz's shenanigans. We didn't even know if she was actually a bully, just that she looks like a human Amity. Meanwhile, one of the big things we know about Vee is she wasn't maybe bullied like Luz... She was tortured. Literally. She grew up in agony and managed to escape. She has baggage, to put it mildly.

But also to be blunt, the TOH fandom doesn't actually like extreme angst. No one I ever followed seemed to actually do anything with Vee. I mean, more people did comics about Amity losing it at Hunter over Eclipse Lake than ANYONE ever did about the fact that Hunter probably was involved in Vee's torture as the emperor's right hand. Bare minimum, A Golden Guard had probably participated in it. The fandom likes the angst they put on the characters that reflects their own traumas and problems but engaging with actual fantasy issues and the like never really seemed to be as big of a part of it, bare minimum by the point of S2B. And that is important because you honestly already by then saw a lot less comics, WAY less animatics and just less more extreme output from most creatives in regards to TOH.

The other half of the problem is that the fandom had done so much Lumity already, including Boschlow which was already a Lumity clone, that even before it was canonical, a lot more people gravitated towards Veesha. After all, Masha is a goth, spunky, weird but also genuinely feminine and a teen and just overall a nice character that is already close to Vee. There's also more of an overt betrayal angle from confessing what Vee is that can mirror allegories to the LGBTQIA+ experience... With the plus side that Masha would be more likely to go "Would" to it than Clara would.

It was a blip of a trend for the fandom and if you actually read that work, you can tell that a lot of the inspiration came from being able to do whatever the fuck I wanted with Clara. That is was, even accidentally, a bit of me flexing my original writing skills as I did a lot of interesting stuff with how she views the world. I don't think Vee ever got a solo chapter, and probably stopped around the time it might have happened, because I just didn't find, nor even now, find Vee all that compelling.

But also Clarvee was also me coping for the fact that the end of Yesterday's Lie left a godawful taste in my mouth from its no win cliffhanger, which I fucking called wouldn't be actually followed up on or enforced by Camila. It was me trying to still love this and have the same passion I did... And well, a year later I'd be essentially done writing for TOH.

Short: Research and Revelations

The bell above the door chimed as Azura Noceda walked into the curio shop owned by her Tia Vee and Titi Masha. From behind the desk, Masha smiled and gave Azura a small wave.

“Hey kiddo. How have things been recently?” Masha asked as Azura approached the desk. Azura gave a small shrug.

“Not bad. Been focusing on my bard studies recently.” The witchling responded.

“And here I thought you'd be chatting with your new girlfriend non-stop, like your moms before you.” Masha's comment caused Azura to blush and stammer a bit, which got a chuckle out of them.

“You shouldn't tease her, babe.” Came the voice of Vee as she slithered out from the back room of the shop before shifting into her human disguise. “Or maybe I should recount how much of a disaster you were when we actually started dating? Especially when you learned the truth.” Vee smirked playfully as Masha blushed and chuckled.

“I mean, can you blame me? My adorkable girlfriend turned out to be an adorkable shape shifting snake woman. How could I not have been even more madly in love than I already was?” Masha gently pecked Vee on the cheek. Vee gave a bashful chuckle and turned to Azura.

“So, what brings you here today?” Vee asked her niece. Azura produced a few drawings from her pockets and placed them on the counter. Masha and Vee leaned forward, looking at them.

“These are carvings from the “tomb” Lily and I explored the other day. And that one at the end is my best recollection of what the armour that attacked us looked like.” Azura said, pointing to the drawings as she explained them. “I tried researching this on my own, but even the back areas of the library had nothing about this. Whatever this is, it's way, way older than any sort of written documentation. I figured, since you two study not only the history but the folklore of the Isles, you might know more?”

Masha picked up a few of the drawings, examining them more closely. They and Vee had heard about the whole incident from Luz. Well, first they heard about Azura and Lily dating (which was long overdue in Masha's opinion, but they didn't get involved in shipping as much as Luz, so they never really said anything), and that lead into the story of how the two got together, which obviously included the armour itself. While Masha had been researching folklore for a while, they hadn't really heard about any living armour. But now, seeing these drawings, a theory popped into their head.

“The Gilded Butcher.” They said, standing up. “You found the tomb of the Gilded Butcher!”

“The… Gilded Butcher?” Azura asked.

“Mash’, are you sure? You thought we had found it before.” Vee said.

“I'm sure.” Masha said with a firm nod. They turned to Azura and put on their best performative voice. “It's said that long ago, when the body of the Titan had barely begun decaying and society was just forming, a mad witch made contact with an ancient being. This creature, a miniature star that fed on blood, made a pact with the witch. If he made the being a body, then it would serve as his enforcer and executioner, helping him to build a mighty kingdom. The witch worked tirelessly for 3 months straight, and by the time he finished the body, it was said that he was more skeletal than the Titan itself. The being entered its new body, but it had deceived the witch. He became the first victim of the Gilded Butcher. After rampaging across the isles for years, eventually, the witches made contact with the demons living on the remote areas of the Titan and forged a pact. Working together, they tore the Butcher apart and sealed it away so no one could find it. It's said that should the seal on the door be broken, the Gilded Butcher will take its revenge on all inhabitants of the Boiling Isles, not resting until every witch and demon is dead!” Masha ended their story with a dramatic flare. Azura stared wide-eyed.

“Wait, but… Lily and I did break the seal. But it couldn't get out. Or at least, it didn't look like it could…” Azura said, fear creeping into her voice. Her Tia Vee put a comforting hand on her shoulder.

“Hey, one thing we've learned is that while there is a portion of truth to folklore, especially on the Isles, it's not 100% factual. If this thing is as old as we think, then this is basically the oldest game of Telephone in Isles history.” Vee gave Azura a comforting smile. Masha nodded in agreement.

“While a great story, my guess is it's probably some kind of invisible magic parasite, and is just puppeting the armour for safety, or something like that.”

“Still, I should go let someone know. Maybe Mama Amity. She can probably get some sort of defense put up around the tomb just in case. And Lily might want to know too.” Azura collected her drawings. “Thanks Tia Vee, thanks, Titi Masha.” Azura gave her aunt and titi a quick hug each and rushed out the door.

Masha chuckled. “She sure is like her moms.” They said with a smile. They shivered a bit as they felt Vee's hand run down their spine. “V-Vee?” They asked, looking over and seeing a familiar look in their lover's eyes.

“We're closing early. I forgot how… hot you are when you tell stories like that.” Vee said breathily, her tail shifting in slightly to wrap around Masha's waist and pick them up.

“And I forgot how hot you are when you get like this.” Masha said with a blush as Vee carried them off into the back.

For those wondering about why Luz isn't the princess... she is.

In my au she and vee were switched at birth accidentally and Luz went with the wrong family who happened to be only visiting Spain and they were returning to France after the wife went into labor. I mean after recovering from giving birth of course. They were nice people, had good standing with the royal family, but unfortunately passed away. The mother passed from unknown illness and the father in a fight to stop a criminal outside of the kingdom.

Caleb and Katherine both decided that Luz would live in the castle with them. They wouldn't want a 10 year old to be out in the world on their own.

So it was decided that Luz would be raised alongside Hunter and they both trained in swordsmanship, archery and combat. Eventually, Luz would not only become the youngest captain of the guard at 18, but also the prince's most trusted companion ( only 2nd to Flapjack).

Though to Hunter, Luz was basically his annoying little sister.

When the plot kicks off the hexsquad is aged up to 18, Hunter is 19 and Gus is 16.

Who’s ready some Skyrim OCs?

First up: my Nord, Prisoner! Yes, I chose that name on purpose. He’s my hc Dragonborn and he’s essentially designed after the character shown off in promo material. I hc that after being captured and escaping Helgen, he chooses to go by Prisoner to shed himself of his prior life (Plus everyone refers to him as “Dragonborn” anyway). He becomes a member of the Blades but he doesn’t kill Paarthurnax because FUCK CANON.

Aranir, my High Elf. Originally from Summerset Isle, he came to Skyrim a few years back to study at the College of Winterhold. He’s a regular mage until the college’s questline happens during the Dragon Crisis. He eventually becomes Arch-Mage as a result of this.

Brynne, my Imperial. A member of the Imperial Army and based out of Solitude, Brynne is heading the Imperial force that intends to execute the Dragonborn in Helgen when Alduin attacks. She escapes with the Dragonborn, but she is suspicious of him for a while. I like to think she eventually has a companion quest where you learn she’s got a crush on Tullius. 

Daro’eena, my Khajiit. She was orphaned at a young age and lived on the streets in Riften for a while, before she eventually found her way to the Thieves Guild, where she became a gifted pickpocket and sneak. Still, she felt like she lacked purpose. Enter the Thieves Guild questline and the Nightingales. She becomes a Nightingale and she finally feels like she has a place in the world.

Deshel, my Wood Elf. Originally from Valenwood, Deshel has come to Skyrim at the request of her people to investigate the dragon attacks and see if they pose a threat outside of Skyrim. She’s not too thrilled about the hash cold of these northern lands. At some point, she has a run-in with the Bard’s College in Solitude.

Kharo, my Orc. Kharo is a powerful and respected warrior among his clan in Largashbur. He’s involved in The Cursed Tribe quest and helps the Dragonborn out along the way.  He also lends his blade to anyone who pays enough.

Razif, my Redguard. Born in Hammerfell, Razif’s parents were slaughtered by Skyrim bandits while the family was in the country. Given Redguards’ aptitude for swordsmanship, he slaughtered them in revenge. He eventually made his way to Whiterun and joined the Companions, training with them until he took up his first jobs when he came of age. He’s also a werewolf.

Turos, my Dark Elf. Originally just a regular member of the Dark Brotherhood of Skyrim, Turos is heavily involved in that faction’s questline. He eventually becomes Listener. He’s silent, deadly, and efficient.

My Breton, Ursale. Ursale is a member of the Mages Guild in High Rock who, during the College questline, is at the college to strengthen the relations between Winterhold and the Guild. She’s friends with Aranir and eventually decides to stay at the College to assist hi, as he is the new Arch-Mage.

Last but not least: Veesha-Tan, my Argonian. Veesha was originally a dock worker in Windhelm, but he got tired of the discrimination he faced there. So, he joined the Thieves Guild to stick it to the nobles that demeaned him. He’s involved in the Theives Guild questline with Daro’eena and eventually takes the role of Guild Master.

His name is Camilo Noceda.

He was more or less named after his abluea Camila.

He is 16 years old.

This is his true form.

His transformation powers are not as strong as his moms.

Camilo can make himself more human looking but not more basilisk looking.

Has to eat magic sometimes like his mom.

Most of the time he can't use magic the "normal" way thanks to being half human, so most of the time, he has to use glyphs like their Tia Luz.

Camilo studies illusion and oracle magic.

He likes to tell fortunes with cards while he's in the human world, like his Zaza used to, but has rarely ever actually used oracle magic for it. Mostly he just does it to mess with people.

Camilo is a tiny bit of a trouble maker and has a lot of his Zaza's engery.

Their palisman is a mammoth named Chilly.

Gravesfield’s local cryptid kid. Frequently terrorizes one Mr Hopkins-

-This is Madrid Noceda! He’s Vee and Masha’s kid.

-He lives in the Human Realm with his parents. When visiting the Demon Realm he typically stays with his Tía Luz and Tía Amity.

-She’s the oldest out of the Noceda cousins and is ready to throw hands with anyone who bugs her lil cousins.

-He/She, demigender, Aromantic Pansexual

-Her palisman is a leech. Their name is Billie! They give everyone in the Noceda-Clawthorne brood the creeps.. (they’re really an absolute sweetheart)

-Apart of the Demon-Human Realm Exchange Program. He live with his parents when at human school and stays over at Luz and Amity’s while at Hexside. He’s in the abomination, plant, and illusion tracks.

-She’s able to shapeshift like Vee! Prefers to stay in her more humanoid-form though (she’s more than capable of hiding that tail she just chooses not to-)

-No real idea on what she wants to do with her life. It’s really starting to bug her that she doesn’t have a direction…

-Enjoys gardening with his Mama and Abuela Camila!

-Naturally has blue hair (like Vee in her basilisk form), she frequently dyes it various, mainly in red (Masha always helps her out otherwise dear Titan the mess-)
