WHAT IS VEDIC ASTROLOGY? – THE ORIGINS OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY
What is Vedic Astrology? it also known as Jyotish, is an ancient system of astrology that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. It is a form of astrology that emphasizes the connection between the individual and the cosmos, and the influence of the planets and stars on our lives. Vedic Astrology is based on the Sidereal Zodiac, which takes into account the position of the planets and stars at the time of an individual’s birth. This system is also deeply rooted in Hinduism, with many of its practices and beliefs being closely tied to Vedic texts and teachings. Vedic Astrology is unique in its approach, as it not only provides insights into an individual’s personality and life path but also offers guidance on how to navigate life’s challenges and achieve success and fulfillment. Over the centuries, Vedic Astrology has continued to evolve and adapt to modern times, making it a valuable tool for those seeking spiritual guidance and insight into their lives.

Tropical vs Sidereal astrology
EDIT: UPON REFLECTION I'VE REALISED THAT I NEED TO BE MORE CLEAR WITH WHAT IM COMPARING HERE - IT IS NOT ABOUT VEDIC ASTROLOGY AS A WHOLE BUT THE SIDEREAL SYSTEM (WHICH IS ALMOST ENTIRELY SOLELY USED BY VEDIC ASTROLOGERS ONLY).
In my first post, I spoke a bit on how astrology works scientifically, and therefore why I use the tropical system. This post will go a little further into why, but I will re-paste the relevant parts from my first part here.
First, however, I would like to make it clear that when I am referring to Vedic astrology, I am referring to the common understanding of vedic astrology today which is the system which uses sidereal positioning. But Vedic astrology DOES NOT necessarily equal Sidereal. There are Vedic astrologers (though few, and will be expanded upon later) which use the tropical system. I am, however, using this post to explain why I do not use the Sidereal system. I am simply not proficient enough to talk about Vedic techniques and principles as understood removed from its popular Sidereal understanding. So to reiterate, this is not a post against Vedic techniques or Vedas and such, but why I do not follow how it is commonly perceived and practised today.
Sidereal vs Tropical rundown
✎ Sidereal astrology accounts for the precession of the equinoxes, i.e. it relies on where the actual constellations have moved to from our perspective on earth. If you use a sky map app and point it to the sky it will tell you the exact constellation above, that is sidereal positioning.
✎ Tropical astrology does not do this, it uses the divison of the ecliptic exactly how it was thousands of years ago of where the sun was at the vernal equinox - Aries. It is thus based on the seasons.
The science behind astrology - why constellations do not matter (excerpt form my main post):
: ̗̀➛ Astrology has NOTHING to do with the physical constellations. Astrology is based on the signs on the ecliptic (the path of the sun amongst the constellations, which is the plane of the earth's orbit).
: ̗̀➛ The equator has 15 constellations, and the ecliptic has 13. So why do we have 12 zodiac signs? This is because babylonians divided the ecliptic into 12 equal segments of 30 degrees each thousands of years ago. The ecliptic was divided into SIGNS. 12 constellations were just used to identify where in the sky each sign would be, at the time for ease of astronomical mapping/calculation - it is merely symbolic. This is why Opphiuchus is not the 13th Zodiac SIGN, although it is a constellation.
: ̗̀➛ Another reason why they are not based off the physical constellations is because the actual size of the constellations vary massively in size. Below is a representation of this:
: ̗̀➛ As you can see, Virgo, for instance is huge, and on a literal view overlaps into the next segment because the constellations do not all equally fit a 30 degree division. Yet, we do not give scorpio like 5 days for its season, because the physical constellation does not dictate anything meaningful.
This gives us the tropical zodiac, which is to do with the earth's seasons:
: ̗̀➛ The solstices are therefore reference points for Capricorn and Cancer (tropic of capricorn and tropic of cancer), not the constellations themselves. Accordingly, the spring equinox is marked by Aries (with the sun entering the segment of Aries at 0 degrees until 29), and the autumn equinox by Libra. Even though in the Southern Hemisphere, the sun entering Aries is an autumnal equinox, ithe fact remains it is still about the seasons (i.e. what the sun does, maintaining its universal application).
: ̗̀➛ The precession of the equinoxes, are therefore irrelevant to astrology (and this is why vedic/sidereal is, in my opinion inaccurate). The slow change of the direction of the earth's axial tilt, over around 26000 years, cause a precession of the equinoxes. This means, the segment of the sky that used to be identified by the Aries constellation from the earth's position at the time, is now looking at Pisces. But as we know, astrology has nothing to do with the physical location of the constellations. Vedic astrologers use sidereal positioning, aka taking into account the precession of the equinoxes, yet they still divide the ecliptic in the same way. This causes problems, leading to many branches in vedic because few agree on where aries actually even starts.
The problems with Sidereal positioning - its all about the sun!
✣ As described in my first post ( i'd really recommend u read it ngl lol), astrology is symbolic, and its entire foundation is based off the sun. It is the sun which gives us life -> therefore it represents our vitality, creativity, identity etc (as opposed to the rising sign which is our personality, who we are, etc and filtered through our chart ruler). Everything comes back down to this SOLAR-based system -> equinox to equinox. Nothing to do with the constellations.
✣ Moreover, the signs are grouped into the 3 modalities, which all represent the suns status (symbolic significations are interpretated separately depending on the sign but generally the groups represents what the sun is doing). The sign which it currently objectively is passing through bears no significance. E.g:
-> Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricon = Cardinal = sun is crossing the equator when crossing Aries or Libra. When crossing cancer the sun is moving from setting north to south, and vice versa when going through Capricorn. Moving forward, fresh change. -> Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius = Fixed = sun is in the middle of the season it is in, it is 'fixed' and maintaining. -> Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo, Pisces = Mutable = sun is transforming by going through the end of its season, undoing and release before the next season starts with the cardinal signs.
✣ Because the position of the constellation depends on where on earth you view it from, there is no obejctive consensus on where Aries even starts. This had led to varying branches of sidereal astrology such as Lahiri, Raman, Krishnamurti Paddhati, and some western takes on Sidereal positioning like Fagan-Bradley. These branches are symptomatic of being overly pedantic by concentrating on the constellations themselves.
✣ Finally, Vic Di Cara is a famous and rare example of a modern day Vedic astrologer who uses the tropical system. Seems blasphemous, but he delves into some irrefutable points on ancient India's use of the tropical system which I will paste below but I really encourage you to read it. Tldr it is still about the sun (surprise suprise):
"The foundational texts of Indian Astrology unanimously and explicitly define the zodiac based on solstices and equinoxes (i.e. tropical). On the other hand, they also unanimously define the nakshatra based on stars (i.e. sidereal). The current difference between the two - the solstices (ayana) and their marker stars - is described as "ayanamsha." Problem: For many centuries Indian astrologers have applied ayanāṁśa to both the nakshatra and the zodiac - fuseing the two and divorcing the zodiac from its tropical anchors. Solution: Reform... which requires patience, clarity, contemplation and humility from all parties."
CRUCIALLY:
I hope this cleared up any confusions on sidereal vs tropical astrology, and has helped informed your decision on choosing which system to use! I will advise, though, not to mix the systems. This is a common belief for good reason; you would not mix two different languages in a sentence.

𓂀 ASTRO OBSERVATIONS .
☆ TROPICAL.
- DAY AND NIGHT CHARTS ARE A NICE DETAIL TO TAKE NOTE OF WHEN READING CHARTS
day charts: sun is in 7h-12h -> sun is better, jupiter is the stronger benefic, saturn is not as malefic.
night charts: sun from 1h-6h -> moon is better, venus is the stronger benefic, mars is not as malefic.
- THE MC IS THE HEIGHT OF THE CHART AND OPPOSITE THE IC, SO INDICATES WHERE YOU'RE GOING AS A PERSON IN YOUR DEVELOPMENT. IT'S NOT JUST YOUR CAREER / YOUR IMAGE.
my source? analysing birth charts and mc persona charts
- 11H AND INCOME.
wherever the 11H ruler is and planets inside the 11H denote what you will make money from in your career
. * . ⁺ .⁺ ˚ . * . ⁺ .⁺
☆ TROPICAL AND VEDIC.
- SATURN EXALTATION AND FALL EXPLAINED.
:: saw this on twitter and just... sigh
saturn does WORSE in aries for those reasons. being all hotheaded and quick to move and start something vs taking it slow, planning, putting in the work and laying all the appropriate foundations
saturn does better in libra since it's a cardinal air venusian sign and so yes it sits and ponders, creates all the necessary structures, considers both sides (pros and cons etc)
if we think abt saturn as a judge, would u rather want the hot-headed judge or the diplomatic, fair judge? the one who makes a decision quickly or the one who may take too long, but delivers a fairer decision?
just because saturn likes a sign doesn't make the sign bad!!! it means it does BETTER in the sign.
- TROPICAL VENUSIANS ARE SIDEREAL MARTIANS.
while this is seemingly incompatible and contradictory, venus historically ruled over war (aries) and the underworld (scorpio) in several ancient mythologies.
- LEO RULES FAME AND OBSESSION.
as it's fixed fire, leo rules over both fame and obsession. we see famous people dealing with obsessed fans and haters all the time. think of a flame that just keeps on burning and burning.
. * . ⁺ .⁺ ˚ . * . ⁺ .⁺
☆ VEDIC.
- SWATI + MRIGASHIRA DOLL BEAUTY.
left: swati asc + mrigashira moon / right: mrigashira sun + swati asc
- YOU'RE ATTRACTED TO PEOPLE WITH THE SAME DARAKARAKA AS YOU.
the vastttt majority of people in an astrology discord i am apart of have mars darakaraka (including myself)
- JUPITERIAN APPEARANCE.
jupiter individuals have large eyelid space, which makes sense given jupiter's expansive quality. below are some celeb examples, but i have also seen this with people irl.
kehlani - punarvasu asc, kali uchis - punarvasu sun, ice spice - vishakha moon
NSFW - ASHLESHA AND BONDAGE.
ashlesha is represented by the coiled serpent and means 'embrace' / 'entwine' + alexa demie's fairytales photoshoot incorporated a lot of bondage imagery
alexa demie - ashlesha ascendant

Top 5 Differences Between Western and Vedic Astrology: A Quick and Dirty Guide
5. Zodiac Signs: Who's Who in the Sky?
Western: Tropical zodiac, based on the seasons.
Vedic: Sidereal zodiac, based on the actual constellations.
Think of it like this: In Western astrology, you might be a Sagittarius. In Vedic, you could be a Scorpio or even a Libra, depending on when you were born.
4. Planet Power: The Cosmic Players
Western: Sun and Moon are the big players.
Vedic: All planets are important, especially Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars.
Vedic astrology is like a cosmic game of tag, with every planet influencing your life in different ways.
3. Moon vs. Sun: The Inner Self
Western: Sun represents your ego and conscious self.
Vedic: Moon represents your emotions and unconscious mind.
Imagine the Moon as your secret diary, revealing your deepest feelings and desires.
2. Future vs. Past: Predicting Your Fate
Western: More focused on interpreting your personality and potential.
Vedic: More predictive, often making specific forecasts.
Vedic astrology is like a cosmic fortune cookie, offering glimpses into your future.
1. Destiny vs. Free Will: Fate or Choice?
Western: Emphasizes free will and personal choice.
Vedic: More fatalistic, believing in destiny and karma.
Vedic astrology is a game of chess, where your moves are influenced by a higher power.

Do you all remember that meme I shared which was like, tropical vs sidereal and the sidereal guy was like- your venus is very close to the sun so your marriage will be bad and blah blah....??
So I was reading this vedic astrology book in which this guy wrote "Sun conjunct Venus under 10 degrees is a sign that you can become a celebrity and gain fame, and you will notice that many celebrities have this (which they do) but because Venus is the planet of marriage, it being burned because of the Sun will cause issues in married life and that's why so many celebrities have a bad and unfulfilling marriage (which is also true)" and I know that was a meme but it IS true, this is the most noticeable in the charts of actors, singers and all. that meme was a little exaggerated but it holds true. Also, it's even more valid cuz I have a list of all celebrities who are happily married and none of them have sun conjunct venus. That's why people with sun conjunct mercury suck at communication, biggest ghosters to ever exist.
Also, Lisa of blackpink has both Venus and Saturn in Pisces in combustion and you can see the results yourself, and this is happening despite Venus being exalted.
I feel like old indian astrologers are such idiots but if you actually read a vedic astrology book by a GOOD author, then you'll realise why so many western astrologers end up supporting vedic, I feel like India's ancient astrologers had so much of knowledge about astrology and there's an in-depth explanation for every single thing that makes so much sense when you actually try to understand it. Traditional is not always bad.
#astrology#astroblr#Sun conjunct Venus is one of the most common conjunction in astrology I guess that's why everyone's marriage is so.......fucked??

VEDIC ASTRO NOTES #2
by veronicawildewest
(disclaimer: if you get it, you get it. If you don't, go fv' k yourselves)
🖍️ 1st lord connected to 6th house (Vedic astrology) - The characteristics you dislike the most in your enemy, the same behavior you have, but you don't notice it in yourself. Me VS myself is the theme of these natives. (I can attest to this; I have this placement personally. I just realized it and am working on myself)
🖍️What I often see in Vedic astrology texts is that Venus Ketu is disinterested in love, which I find ridiculous. Venus Ketu natives are some of the most intense people I know when it comes to love, obsessive to the point that they have a hard time letting go. Maybe it's because Venus aspects Rahu even though Venus is conjunct Ketu. Ketu will not work without Rahu (and vice versa).
🖍️When transit Saturn aspects one of your luminaries, there are two possibilities I can think of:
Saturn will make you feel the consequences of every decision you make.
You will also experience situations where you need to use dedication/hard work wherever Saturn transits in your natal chart.
🖍️I can't understand the stereotypical "tropical Virgos are hardworking." No, they're not, especially Purva Phalguni Nakshatra.
🖍️However, some stereotypes I understand are why "tropical Scorpios are dark, mysterious, and possessive." They are Sidereal Libra. That's the characteristic of Venus. Fixation on the other half? Venus. Specifically on the Nakshatras, Vishakha Nakshatra.
🖍️The stereotypes that I understand are:
"Why (tropical) Geminis are so charming?" The nakshatras Mrigashira and Rohini are connected to obsession. They have many stalkers (or some of them stalk, but either way, they have many more stalkers).
"Why (tropical) Cancers are known to be manipulative?" Because of the sidereal Gemini. Mercury rules manipulation. It's the Magician for a reason. The motherly aspect and crybaby behavior are because of the teardrop symbolism of the Ardra and the Aditi deity of the nakshatra Punarvasu.
🖍️While discovering and learning about Vedic astrology, I appreciate Western astrology more, not because I hate Vedic (I love both of them). It's just that some stereotypes have been made about tropical/Western astrology, which I listed above. They're not biased (well, it depends on the person, but the system itself isn't) because they explain and intertwine things that I find really interesting and beautiful.
🖍️Additional note to the observation that I made about the Rahu-Ketu axis and trends. The quarantine started when Gemini/Sagittarius and Taurus/Scorpio were in the nodes. It really makes sense to me why TikTok grew in popularity over that time because of Gemini (attention span thing). The Taurus/Scorpio thing represents the finances of countries that are affected when it comes to it (the obvious one is transformation because Scorpio is here). Also, Joe Biden was elected as the President of the U.S.A.
When Rahu is in Aries/Ketu in Libra transits:
Queen Elizabeth died. (sidereal Aries sun)
SZA dropped an album. One of her songs is "Kill Bill," very influenced by Bharani nakshatra (credits to Claire).
🖍️I know they have a placement of Aries and Libra, but these are the topics that are the talk of the town and memorable when you start remembering the year.
🖍️Vedic Twitter is weird. Sometimes, on the other hand, some of their observations really make sense. The weird thing that I found is the romanticization of Moon-Mars synastry. I have this with someone (I am the Moon person). I really hated it. They made me trigger anger in me. Not lust, but pure rage that I don't really like expressing.
🖍️The petty ones that I know are moon nakshatra natives (Rohini, Hasta, Shravana). I just don't agree that (I found someone tweeted about it) Moon nakshatra women are "girl's girl," "support nice women." Eh no, not that they hate other women but no. They just don't, and that's ok. They don't hate women, but they don't support it either if that makes sense (if you get it, you get it)
Additional note to this: Ironically, Hasta is the maiden archetype of nuns (that Claire Nakti mentions in her video), but they're the horniest ones I know too.
🖍️I love that Tropical Sagittariuses are known to be happy, free, and wild (looking directly at Miley Cyrus because she has a sidereal Scorpio stellium). It makes much more sense when Mars is at home in Scorpio. These natives are blunt too. The "darkness" that makes Scorpio a Scorpio is the transformation and hardships they've gone through. Different from Libra though.
🖍️9th house/12th house/Jupiter aren't appreciated as much by me. They're literally about beliefs. Your subconscious/unconscious self. Connection to manifestation for me. That's why they oppose the mercurial signs (magician) and mutable signs. They speak (3rd house)/act (6th house) on what they fear (12th house) or believe (9th house).
It's applicable for all people, you literally don't need a strong Jupiter/Jupiter Rashi to manifest easily.

Divinity of Gojo Satoru
a vedic astrology perspective
keep in mind that every system of knowledge serves some purpose so lets be respectful towards different schools of astrology. keep in mind I'm using
Vedic depictions ( with Hindu deities of nakshatras (constellations) with Vimshottri planetary rulers for each )
Sidereal measurements for planetary placements in the sky
Whole house system
let's begin
time and time again me and my astrology friends have noted that Gojo Satoru is "the stereotypical Sagittarius" according to the tropical astrology - you know the larger than life personality, the "teacher" and the classic funny guy who is known to not commit to women (still not expressively seen in the mangas or anime itself). Moreover his technique is very jupiturian in it's own way - expansive and divine, note the word divine because he has actually quoted few religious and spiritual references during major rebirths of his ( gojo vs toji arc ) and if you don't know what that is I suggest you to read the mangas or maybe wait for the season 2 of the anime. but today i'll be discussing on the sidereal astrological significations of Gojo, the strongest and show you how he embodies this nakshatras and their archetypes surprisingly well.
Gojo satoru is born on the 7th of December 1989 and because i was unaware of any specified birth place i searched up the location of the actual Gojo Shrine which is in Tokyo. Gojo is known to be a kuge family descendant of the sugawara clan, which dominated the imperial courts in kyoto during the heian period.
Sun in Jyeshtha nakshatra
the vedic astrology system uses the current planetary placements in the cosmos thus it is 24 degrees late than the tropical zodiac as vedic astrology uses sidereal calculations.
Gojo is a sagittarius sun in tropical astrology but a scorpio sun in sidereal but don't worry we are on to the same person ( or character ) here.
His sun falls in the nakshatra of Jyestha meaning the eldest and it's nakshatra lord is mercury. An extremely hot nakshatra which is jyestha makes the native be very fire like in nature. Now all of this doesn't go together with satoru right? Well guess who is the presiding deity of this nakshatra - Indra the king of the gods.
jyestha natives are known to be extremely skilled with mercury as their nakshatra lord and mars as their zodiac lord - scorpio - giving them extreme powers to excel in activities like politics and fighting and indra grants the native extreme wealth and its symbol talisman manifests as the native having power and authority. Indra manifests his power on the material plain making the natives have an authoritative position given he was mythologically a warlord aswell.
This highly powerful placements makes the natives the best at their fields, high achievers. and aces very often due to their make it or break it nature along with their often found entitled nature Indra indulges in theatrical pleasures like watching dances and entertaining courtly rituals and also indulges in a sweet drink called soma. Unlike modern myths Indra is one of the most crucial gods behind the 6000 year old hindu texts of wisdom from which we derive this knowledge from thus making it's native wise and clever. Jyestha is the last nakshatra of the second phase of nakshatras, the phase of gaining and nurturing personal power and self identity and vigor and thus is this is where the natives showcase a lot of their prowess.
Connecting that to Satoru we see quite a few themes repeating itself a number of times namely him being the eldest in his friend circle - Geto and Shoko are both a year younger than him, making him the eldest. Gojo is said to come from an rich and esteemed clan giving him the bag in that aspects - riches are at his footstep. Not only that he is the head of this esteemed clan - an imperial clan in real life out of the anime but still - the authority - the king. Not only is he the head of his clan but an important figure in the entire jujutsu society so much so that his birth alone shifted the balance of the jujutsu world. He is the best - the strongest - the only honored one through the heavens and earth. He is the strongest fighter, the strongest sorcerer - sidereal scorpio's ruling planet mars' raw strength matching with the nakshatra lord mercury in magic and sorcery as mercury is between the air and earth realms - between the heaven and the earth. He is the teacher now teaching the basics and essentials of the jujutsu society. he is the head, the King and is supposed to know better than other because no one is above the God King.
Satoru is known to eat sweets, he has a sweet tooth just like how Indra indulges in Soma rasha before wars because it fuels him adds vigor - Gojo consuming sweets to stimulate his brain but ultimately getting a sweet tooth - which unsurprisingly Indra is known to be a very regular customer of Soma aswell.
It's surprising how the nakshatras manifest through characters. More info in future. I don't think i'll be considering the moon sign and the rest of the chart yet as we know very little of gojo satoru even though the significant events of his past does strongly show his moon nakshatra purva bhadrapada where one has no limitations and is free but needs to reign themselves in to pass through the spiritual tests and attain self mastery. i think i'll be making another post on that later on.

is there or could there be a place where sidereal and tropical meet halfway? understandably, its not about the constellations, but shouldn't we take into account the way our universe is constantly moving? "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." Thanks!
I'm not sure if you read both my introduction post and tropical v sidereal one but the latter one especially goes more into why the actual movement of the universe itself is not exactly relevant to astrology. Mixing tropical and sidereal would not really make sense either , it's like using 2 diff languages in the same sentence. However, the extent of which I'm aware u could somehow incorporate it into hellenistic is through the use of fixed stars! I myself don't use them as I've not really looked into them yet but it might something you'd wanna look into and incorporate into the tropical system. Sorry I can't be of more help on this. If you're interested in vedic principles themselves though , many vedic astrologers do use the tropical system so you can definitely do that too.

hi! i just disovered your blog and it's so cool x could you tell me a bit about the difference between western and sidereal charts? in my western chart around 60% of the planets/asteroids are in capricorn and in sidereal the same planets are in sagittarius. i don't feel like a capricorn at all.
also, could you tell me more about what it means to have asteroid aphrodite in taurus, 10H please? or medusa in cap, 5H, whatever you prefer? (going by my sidereal chart.)
Aw thank you so much!! :)
To anyone reading: if you don't want to read the differences of Sidereal vs. Tropical, skip down to the bottom for info on asteroid Aphrodite and Medusa.
Sidereal vs. Tropical
So, I'll admit that I'm new to sidereal astrology.
So, I can't speak on what everything means. But I do know the main differences between the two types. (I'm in the process of learning though. I hope to know more about it so I can feel confident talking on it).
I also hope to talk about this respectfully since Sidereal has a cultural component to it. If I'm incorrect with any of this, please feel free to correct me. I'm a believer in being a life long student (it's the Sag placements), so I want to be as respectful and accurate as possible.
I'm also open to anyone sending in a better description, which I can post and credit you/link your account. I just want to make sure everyone gets correct information.
Sidereal astrology is measured from the fixed stars of the ecliptic constellations.
To make things simple, the sky is always shifting. The earth "wobbles" (also known as the precession of the equinoxes) and Sidereal accounts for these shifts and the wobble. That's the simplest way I can explain it, but it's so much more complex than that. But definitely do more research.
I could be wrong, but I want to say the interpretations of the signs in Sidereal aren't exactly the same as tropical, so that could be a factor as to why you don't resonate with it. I've also heard that a lot of people don't truly resonate until they learn how to read sidereal.
I highly suggest getting your information from individuals who specialize in Sidereal. Try to stay away from sources that water down/westernize Sidereal astrology or sources that don't explain the history/cultural component to Sidereal astrology.
Vedic astrology is based on Sidereal. It has its roots in Hinduism and it's important to understand its history to respect where it originated from and the culture. When I research Vedic, I always remember this.
Western astrology (also known as Tropical astrology) uses seasons (Vernal Equinox).
Essentially, Western astrology looks at where the sun was at on the calendar a couple thousand years ago. It doesn't account for the shifts.
Here''s a link that talks about the science behind it.
This link also has a pretty good explanation.
(The link is concise and easy to understand, however I don't like using the NY Post for Astrology information, but I think it's a good basic intro)
Some people are really passionate about choosing one or the other. I'm more of the belief that a person should stick with whatever they're most comfortable with (but obviously being open minded to learn new info as it's presented) or which one resonates more. I believe every chart serves a purpose and can be accurate if read correctly. So, I'll probably use both once I learn.
I'm also learning Draconic astrology, too. I find they all fit in their own way.
There's a lot of discourse about Sidereal being more accurate. And there are a lot of people who feel very strongly about this. Which, that's their practice and it's based on their experience, which is valid. I don't think anyone is "incorrect" per say. (Unless they're watering it down and rooting it in toxic depictions of new ageism. Which is a whole other topic in of itself, but I digress).
There's also a debate in Tropical astrology with modern vs traditional astrology as well. There's just a lot of discourse altogether. So do what feels right for you!!! Just research research research. As you get more experience, you'll figure out where you fall, what you like, etc.
I'm more objective. I like to look at it all with each of their original purposes in mind. Part of that is understanding how each came to be. But I can't say for sure if one is or isn't more "correct" because of my limited knowledge on Sidereal.
Asteroid Aphrodite (1388)
This asteroid has a lot of themes similar to Venus. It's name is coined for the Greek goddess, Aphrodite. The Goddess of Love.
There isn't a lot of information readily available on this asteroid without digging. But basically, Asteroid Aphrodite can depict your allure, beauty, and your sexual attraction. It mainly deals with outward appearance.
Aphrodite in Taurus in the 10th House
You'll likely appear very sophisticated, organized and put together to others. Earth toned colors likely look best on you.
You might enjoy vintage, classy, or business casual fashion. Necklaces could be a great accessory.
You like comfortable fashion and enjoy having your senses engaged.
You might feel most powerful and goddess-like in work settings or settings where you feel most comfortable.
This is how you'll create the air of allure around you.
Medusa Asteroid (149)
There's not a lot of info out there on this one either. But how I understand it, this asteroid deals with themes surrounding healing, betrayal, and isolation. It's based on the Greek story of Medusa.
It shows us where we've been cast aside or scapegoated. It's where we're blamed for things we did not do.
It can also show us where we can access power to deter others from hurting us. (leaving them 'frozen in fear,' just like the myth)
Medusa in Capricorn in the 5th House
You might experience a lot of misplaced blame in the work place. When you step into your power, you can be a strong leader that others don't want to anger.
You could also struggle with themes of responsibility and completion of goals.
Romance could be a point of contention. You might be forced to do some inner child healing. Once you begin healing, you could find a lot of power through it. You might even choose a career in a healing or helping field.
**Just my interpretation based on how I understand these placements. Others could have a different interpretation**
I hope this answered your question. And I hope this was easy to understand and follow!!!

wellll its hard to make an assumption like that based mostly on his tropical aries venus placement... idk if you're familiar with sidereal astrology but his venus is in pisces (uttarabhadra) which is saturn ruled i'd say he pretty loyal even if he might lose interest fast/take time to find the right person
oh that's an interesting insight.
see, i do know of sidereal astrology but i gotta say, my knowledge on it is more limited compared to tropical astrology. especially for my "as a boyfriend" readings, i focus more on the combo of their tropical natal chart + tarot, which more often than not validates the insights their tropical venus placement gives me. as an example, i got the knight of wands and the devil rx for jungwon more than once, which both point to the flighty and less committed attitude in him. very aries. (i def do see him sticking to the one he loves once he finds them tho! it'll just take more time than the others)
still, i appreciate you giving me food for thought with that, i actually didn't think of it weirdly enough. ☺️ the whole vedic vs western astrology debate has always been confusing me i gotta say, since the signs completely change depending on what chart you look at. till now, i've stuck to western astrology and felt it went in line with my readings very well. but obviously, this is up to everyone's own preference.

Western Astrology vs. Vedic Astrology
Hi and welcome! Happy Pride Month for everyone who celebrates that, by the way. Also, I want to say something before I get into the topic. You know I thank you on almost every post I make for the support you give me. I got over 100 followers and over 1000 notes after just a week of posting astrology stuff here on Tumblr. This rapid growth of my Tumblr account really tells me that someone actually can resonate with my observations and that I'm doing the right thing. Now let's get into the topic! This post is going to be about the differences between Western astrology and Vedic astrology and there's a lot of them. I've been studying Vedic astrology for a year now and I can say that both types of astrology make sense and are accurate, but they're also too different from each other. I'm gonna explain further on this post which differences are present here.
Disclaimer: This post will be based on my own opinion only. I don't force anyone to think like me or to follow certain type of astrology and to judge another type of astrology. My goal is to share the knowledge I've gained for years and to expand someone's horizons if it's needed. That's what my Tumblr account is actually about.
Western astrology is a heliocentric type of astrology where the Sun is placed at the center of this system and that's why the Sun represents our zodiac sign. The natal chart of Western astrology looks like a circle and it reminds of the heliocentric system as well. Western astrology is also a geocentric, because those type of astrologers use the horizon of the planet Earth and they analyze each planet's move while looking at the sky. There's 12 zodiac signs and 12 months.
The Western astrology mostly depends on the seasons (spring, summer, fall and winter) and the signs whose season starts at the beginning of the season (Aries starts the spring, Cancer starts the summer, Libra starts the fall and Capricorn starts the winter) are considered as cardinal signs and the leaders of the zodiac.
The fixed signs are the ones which continue the season (Taurus continues the spring, Leo continues the summer, Scorpio continues the fall and Aquarius continues the winter). That's why these signs are always described as stubborn and undesirable for changes.
The mutable signs are type of signs whose season start between the end of the one season and at the beginning on another season. (Gemini ends the spring, Virgo ends the summer, Sagittarius ends the fall and Pisces ends the winter). That's why they're mostly perceived as adaptable to the almost every situation they're into.
The signs in Western astrology are also divided into a fire signs (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) an earth signs (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn), an air signs (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius) and a water signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces). They're also divided into a masculine (fire and air signs) and a feminine signs (earth and water signs).
Keep in mind that Western and Tropical astrology are synonyms, two different words, but have the same meaning. You can use planets from Sun to Pluto in this type of astrology. Same with the house system, such as Placidus or Whole Sign, you can use any other house system you want in Western astrology.
On the other hand, Vedic astrology is based on the fixed stars, constellations or nakshatras. They are all synonyms. There's overall 27 nakshatras with the 12 signs and each sign has three nakshatras. The Moon and Ascendant (Lagna) are the most important things in someone's Vedic birth chart (Rashi chart or D1 chart) and then the Sun comes after when it comes to the importance of planets. The Moon represents our zodiac sign and our birth nakshatra in Vedic astrology, not the Sun. Each planet rules over the three nakshatras in Vedic astrology. Every nakshatra has its own deity, yoni/animal, symbols and planetary ruler.
The signs go 24 degrees backwards in Vedic astrology, but it depends on which Ayanamsa is used. Vedic astrologers mostly use Lahiri which is the classical and the most used Ayanamsa. You can have Taurus Sun in tropical natal chart, but Aries Sun in sidereal natal chart. Or you can have Taurus Sun in both tropical and sidereal natal chart. It's not always black and white. Mind you that Vedic astrology and Sidereal astrology are synonyms too.
Degrees are so important in Vedic astrology, because the planet with the highest degree in our vedic birth chart is one of the most important planets and it represents our life purpose in general. This planet is called Atmakaraka. The planet at the second most highest degree represents our career and profession and it's called as Amatyakaraka. The planet at the lowest degree represents our partner and future spouse and it's called as Darakaraka. The degrees are important here because of the nakshatras too.
This is how the North Indian style of Vedic birth chart looks like. This is a style of vedic birth chart I use the most, 'cause it's the easiest style for me to analyze someone's natal chart.
This is, on the other hand, the South Indian style of the Vedic birth chart. You can use whichever style of the birth chart you want.
Those are the objective differences of the Western and Vedic astrology. Now I want to get into the subjective differences I personally saw while using both types of astrology.
My personal difference between Western and Vedic astrology is that the Western astrology is generalizing and more obvious, while the Vedic astrology is a little bit deeper and more complex. The Sun represents our external presence and how we behave in outside world, maybe that's why the Western astrology is so obvious and why people from the western society are so egocentric and success-oriented generally. Vedic astrology gets more deeper, because the Moon is the most important planet there and it's associated with our inner world, emotions, mind, home etc. The placements from the Vedic birth chart describe more what we are inside, while the Western natal chart describes what we are outside.
Another difference I see is that the Vedic astrology uses religion and mythology, mostly the Hindu one, while the Western astrology doesn't use religion, especially the modern type of the Western astrology. Like I said previously, each nakshatra has its own deity and mythology, while this doesn't apply to the Western astrology at all.
Okay, that would be it. I hope you enjoyed it and see you very soon. Have all a wonderful day!
Best regards,
Paky McGee

the leo moons side eye made me giggle you can read me on whatever you want whenever you want i would be honoured 🙏🙏
to answer the side note i have been told so yes LOL 😓
omgomg if you want to give a more in-depth description i can def send them! but also do not feel obligated to pls 😭😭❣️
also so happy you went on a tangent!! it was very informative and i really do appreciate it deeply
hey !!! literally no problem ! i love being about to help others learn about astrology. currently making a big master post of all my astro talks and i’m gonna make a new post for sources (online + books; so i’ll def include some sidereal sources!!). i tried to use ur ask to expand on a few things i’d originally forgot about when answering the original sidereal v tropical ask so don’t even worry !! you worded urself perfectly !! 🫶🏾
and you would not believe how much math is used within astrology (hint: a lot) let’s be real, way way back in the day they used to drawn charts BY HAND!!! like we have the privilege to enter it into some fancy online calculator… og astrologers were doing the math ‼️‼️and shout out vedic astrology! a lot of my sidereal / vedic knowledge is a bit secondhand, but i would love to expand my knowledge of it and share it with you guys 🩷 (fave thing abt astrology is that you’re constantly learning)
it’s always good to remember that there’s so much to your natal chart, but don’t let it overwhelm you! if it’s easier, go placement by placement and really get a feel on the energies, and then you can dig into your aspects for an extra ✨wow✨
also hahah. i knew it! from what i can tell, this blog attracts a lot of people with a more maternal or mom friend energy (cancer/moon on the 11H; or cancer rising). my blog also attracts a sliver of virgo energy and a lottt of venusians (soo many of u have libra placements; n i’ve been getting a couple tauruses too).
and i would fr love to look more in depth at ur chart !! 😻😻😻 (that way i can get into that leo moon of urs 🙏🏾)
#✰ dream.astrology#pls i am a gemini … i LOVE to talk n go off on tangents 🙏🏾 especially when i’m knowledgeable about sumn 🙏🏾🙏🏾
