So, I'm literally not even caught up watching C3 yet, but I've been reading the summaries and watching clips of the current stuff, so I think now is the time to finally reveal my idea that I've had since I found out Vax was turned into an orb. I know the details don't quite line up with everything that's happened in the interim and what's transpiring now/in the future, but still.
Obviously, Keyleth and Vex convince the rest of Vox Machina to get the band back together so they can go save everyone's favorite rogue/paladin from his tiny spherical prison. They manage to obtain the orb and destroy the machine thingy, but they can't figure out how to get Vax out of the orb. Pike tries a greater restoration (because she's Pike), but she can't quiet pull his soul away from the binding. So Keyleth has Vax in her pocket for a little while as they try to figure out how to solve this final part of their problem (because obviously that's the safest place for her orb-shaped boyfriend to stay).
Eventually, they decide to go to Vasselheim and go to the temple of the Raven Queen there and ask the acolytes if they have any idea how to get him out of the orb. They're shocked to see the orb and know what it is, of course, but the suggestion is that someone take the orb with them into the communion pool. Percy volunteers because he's already been there once and doesn't want anyone else to have to do it, but Keyleth refuses to let anyone else do it and goes herself instead.
So, Keyleth takes the orb into the communion pool and comes face-to-face with her least favorite deity, explains the situation and asks for her assistance because she knows that the Raven Queen might care almost as much about the fate of his soul as she does. The Raven Queen agrees to assist in the ritual and they hold the orb in their hands together and Keyleth casts greater restoration (cause that's a thing Druids can cast, right?) and the Raven Queen 'helps' and together they're able to separate Vax's soul from the binding and free him from the his tiny spherical prison, so then Vax is there with them once they pop out of the spell and he's very confused for a minute, but then he sees Keyleth and does not care how this happened anymore.
Eventually, Keyleth knows she has to leave and go back to the mortal plane and is willing to do so now that she knows Vax is safe and back where he belongs. But, it's Vax that has more of a problem with this (letting her leave and staying there), so the Raven Queen takes them to the life line weave or whatever we're calling it. Threads of Fate thing and shows them both what she's been trying to avoid Vax figuring out for the past 3 decades which is their own threads. Vax's first winds closely with another nearly identical thread (his twin sister), but just as their threads come a bit apart, another two other threads appear (come into the same area). One begins slowly winding with Vex's (that's Percy's thread) and the other starts intertwining with Vax's (Keyleth's thread). [Basically a long drawn out way of saying soulmates exist, okay?] And at one point a little further along, suddenly Vax's thread is torn away from Keyleth's (when he died). But because, she's the Raven Queen and can pull the threads of fate or whatever, she just kind of waves her hand and Vax's thread pulls back into view and begins twining itself around Keyleth's once more. "I give second chances. Not thirds. Live well." And then she disappears and they're BOTH in the communion pool trying to get to the top and out.
Obviously, no one downstairs knows what's going on or even if the attempt was successful, but Keyleth and Vax are also confused by what just happened. Keyleth notices that Vax's heart rate sounds... normal again instead of barely beating at all like the last time the Raven Queen let him come back. They go downstairs and Vex immediately runs at her brother as soon as she sees him (obviously), but Pike is hesitant at first, but Vax lets her do a medicine check or whatever she wants and she determines he's not undead or whatever he was last time... he's just... alive. And so Keyleth and Vax go back to Zephrah and live their merry lives like they were always supposed to.

Not to mention seeing everyone’s reactions but Liam’s is the most precious 🥺. You never forget your first d&d character…they are very special in so many ways.
If it wasn’t for a simple suggestion from Sam, “let’s play D&D” we as a community wouldn’t have existed or have been a thought. All in the name of love ❤️. Friendship is what brought us these moments from these VAs.
Thank you Critcal Role for not only shaping our childhoods in cartoons or animes we grew up with but for also shaping our adulthoods with characters you made yourselves.
We cannot thank you enough 💜✨

Two for joy - DOUBLE UPDATE Chapters 20 + 21
Tumblr media
Vex pokes her head into Percy’s office. “Darling, have you seen your sister?”
“Can’t say I have,” he says, rubbing his eyes before looking at her properly.
She huffs, making to leave. Percival adds, “I did see a large bear and a rifleman galloping through the halls, though. Headed for the west wing. Captain Leore mentioned something about the launder’s passage?”
Vex smirks. “She snuck off again?”
“I’m afraid so.” Percy opens one arm, pleading for a respite from his work. Vex grants it gladly, crossing the room to press a kiss to his hair. Another to the furrows of his brows. “I worry that she’s got such a habit of evading her guards. Which we have for a reason -”
“Cassandra is a grown woman and knows the castle better than you, darling. And an accomplished swordswoman besides - no one gets on your case for locking yourself in the workshop dusk ‘till dawn.”
When she next pulls back to smile at him, Percy surprises her with a tug - Vex shrieks a laugh, arm coming out to steady herself against the table. “Except you,” he says.
“Except me,” she agrees, and kisses him.
--
“Vax,” Keyleth warns.
“I’m just saying-”
“Vax.”
“- I’m the best one for the job!” he insists.

Married life headcanons? With Percy, Vax and Vex? ✨🖤
Domestic Bliss
To ask for a normal life after so long as an adventurer seemed impossible. But here they were, living with you and so terribly happy.
Percy, Vex, & Vax x Reader
Fandom: The Legend of Vox Machina/ Critical Role
Format: Headcanons
Gender Neutral Reader
Masterlist
Domestic bliss is my favourite thing to write, this is great for me -Finn
Percy
He is so smug about the fact that he gets to call you his spouse. Absolutely the type to refer to you as his husband/wife/spouse and then melt over the fact that he can say that.
Similar to the last point, as you now have a title due to being married to Percy, he will find excuses to use it. It's another reminder that you chose him!
No matter how stubborn this man is with most, he folds like wet paper with you. Percy is awful at saying no to you. He is whipped and he cannot do a thing about it.
All he really wants to do is spoil you with everything he has. What is the point of money and status if not to give you the perfect life?
Cassandra does her best to strike up a friendship with you and thinks it is hilarious that you could easily convince your husband to do anything. She will try and get you to take advantage of this for silly things.
If you become close with his sister, he's done for. Family is so important to him, and you and Cassandra are the biggest parts of his. Having you two get along is all he wants.
Cass makes a comment once about wanting to become an aunt and almost kills Percy.
Vex
Vex is subtler about how incredibly happy she is, but you know the way her eyes sparkle whenever someone mentions you.
There are jokes made about you being Trinket's step-parent. Trinket has decided the correct way to react is to try and make you pet him whenever he hears it. If he isn't expecting it, he gets excited and will knock you over from the force of it. Vex loves this.
Vex'ahlia has a possessive streak and you are well aware of it. She likes having a hand on you whenever she's next to you, and it will become incredibly obvious if she starts feeling as though someone is paying a little too much attention to you. This is when she starts saying 'My spouse," every time she refers to you.
She will say the worst, most blatant, innuendo in front of the party without so much as a blush. If you get flustered, then it's all the more fun.
Vex finds a lot of joy in still being able to fluster you, no matter how long the two of you have been together.
Vax
Vax can't quite believe that you agreed to marry him. On some level, it feels like he has been living a dream since the wedding.
He's so ridiculously soft over you. Vex claims he has heart eyes whenever you aren't looking. She's right.
He has dreamed of having a simple, content life ever since he was a kid. All he really wanted was to have someone he loved and could rely on. You give him so much more than that.
His deal with the Raven Queen haunts him sometimes, when he thinks about how much time he will or won't get to have with you. He promised himself that he would give you all of the love he could for as long as he could.
Vax tries to do small things to make your days easier when he can. For him, that's what love is. Wanting to make someone's life easier, to make them happy. You'll often see small things that he'd done for you without him saying he's done them.

Because i like pain, can i get basically the sunken tomb/those who walk away (tlovm) but it's reader who dies, not vex? She jumps in front of vex as the blast goes off. Can be either Vax or percy x reader.
Turned out to a percy x reader and hope you like the result. Angsty but with a happy ending. 😘
He can’t move. He can’t breathe. His heart has stopped in his chest. Life has ceased to be linear, or perhaps even moving at all. He is stuck in that one doomed moment. He is trapped within his own body with is own bloody mind. He can’t. He can’t. Percy can’t even think or process. He’s stuck in that single image of you. That damned sarcophagus. It looked fine. Everything was fine. Vex gave it a once over. The three of you pushed the top off and there was the deathwalker’s ward still on the corpse of the previous owner. You’d stepped to the end, with Vex. You’d taken to observing the intricate runes on the inside. Vex warned him not to touch but it was too late. He’d reached in and set off a trap. It would have hit her if you hadn’t pushed her aside and in doing so, knocked yourself off balance and into the full force of whatever damned thing hit you.
Some kind of magic struck out, hit you square in the chest and sent you flying like some rag doll. You hit the ground with a sickening smack and crack. That breath, that single exhale that left your body unmoving, that’s where Percy got stuck, watching as the light in your eyes dimmed, those eyes that kept staring at him. They all ran to you but he was stuck. You weren’t moving. You weren’t responding to their calls nor pleas. There was nothing left of you to respond. Once that dawned on him, once it hit him what he had done, had caused, he was left broken. Somehow his legs carried him to your side, where Vax held you in his arms, Vex clutched your hand unable to speak, Pike rushed to heal you but there’s nothing to heal, nothing to be done. You were gone. You are gone. You’re gone.
Things move quickly after. Percy doesn’t know what grace kept him on his feet when he found it within him to join the others. He could not look away from you. Kash had already started whatever ritual he was performing. A resurrection rite. Everything moved so fast. Questions were asked, what happened how did this happen, who was with you? He was but he couldn’t answer. He couldn’t break away from your cold dead eyes. They’ll forever haunt him. They were so full of life just mere moments before when you cracked a joke and smiled, calling him out on his lack of divine worship. He’d retorted with some clever witty remark. Those were the last words he’d spoken to you. He couldn’t even bloody remember them. He can’t even remember your last words.
But then reason hits. It’s not working. The ritual it’s not working. It has to work. It has to work! The Raven Queen, she resides over death and apparently resurrections do not sit well with her or her domain. The others try to suggest things, solutions, but they are not that. Percy finds it within himself to speak some desperate sense; they’re under a lake, where are they going to go? They’re losing time. This has to work now. They can’t give up! He’s begging them, begging anyone, everyone. This can’t be happening! The spell breaks and you’re not moving. Percy’s ears are ringing. He wants to shout and scream and cry but inside him a void begins to grow and leaves him terrified of himself.
Several breaths pass and then, by some miracle, the light returns to your eyes, you shoot up and you’re gasping for air. You’re awake. He’s riddled with guilt once more. You turn to him and stare at him with those damned eyes and while he sees the life in them now, he’s haunted with that blank stare of your corpse.
“What happened?” How is he supposed to answer that question? He was an idiot and should have listened. This is all his fault. He got reckless and greedy and stupid and it cost you your life!
“I touched the armour and you… you were…” He can’t speak the words. The others speak but he does not hear them. “It was an accident.” Why do you keep looking at him. Your eyes should be filled with hatred and anger but you’re not. You’re relieved. You look at him as if this is not all on him. Accident or not, he is still to blame. Luckily distraction comes quickly. The armour is procured and in Vax’s possession for some reason.
You’re back on your feet and a bit wobbly but insist you want to get out of here as much as the others do. Pike has you at first but whether out of habit or sheer guilt, Percy find himself next to you and you lean on him whenever you stumble slightly. He catches you every time you don’t reach for him. It’s definitely a force of habit because each touch is torture. With each touch that scene keeps replaying. Outside on the banks of the lake Vox Machina decides it’s time to take a rest. Everyone’s exhausted and hurt from the fight to get out. Goodbyes are exchanged Zahra and Kash and upon the sunset Percy wanders off on his own. He had the intention of finding Vax, and apologise for what he caused. He did and got punched in the face. Seems that your best friend gave him a smidge of what he deserves. He deserves so much worse but it’s something. But then you have to find him, alone, ass in the snow, processing the pain in his jaw and contemplating every single mistake in his life that could have spared you this fate.
“Percy?” You come up to him. There’s still a slight tremble in your step despite your self-assured expression. No matter how well you might be at hiding your feelings, you always have a tell. You may pretend this doesn’t affect you but he sees it does. That just makes it worse. Still you find it within yourself to try and make him feel better. He wishes you wouldn’t. It’d be easier if you were angry with him, even better if you too decided to take your pound of flesh. Instead you kneel down next to him and look at what must be the mark of his preview to punishment.
“I fell…” He tries a poor excuse but you don’t buy it. Especially not with the extra set of footprints leading away. You place your palm against his cheek. Your touch is cold, he assumes because of the snow but for some reason he cannot help but imagine the worst. Still he leans into your touch.
“Must have been a strange fall. How does one fall on their ass and face simultaneously?” You joke and normally you’d have earned a chuckle or a retort. ‘With great difficulty’ is what you expected him to say or something along those lines but instead you just get silence and downcast eyes that refuse to meet yours. You settle on your knees and bring your other palm to cup his face and lift his gaze to meet yours. Percy bites the inside of his cheek.
“How can you pretend this doesn’t affect you? How can you take this so lightly?” You pull back and fold your hands together to preserve some warmth. Your skin feels wrong, your body feels wrong. Every breath you take you’re suddenly aware of. The blood pumping through your veins, it’s as if you can feel it and it hurts. Everything hurts and you feel as if you’re going to burst any second as if someone could prick you with a needle and suddenly you’d explode. You feel vulnerable and have become so incredibly aware of your mortality, in anything you do, anything you have done; every choice you’ve ever made. It haunts you past, present and future. You don’t know what to do with yourself. You thought of going out into the trees just so scream but that wouldn’t help. You’d just be left with the pain. You thought of ignoring it but that turned on you quickly. You noticed the silence when Percy was around. When you’re near him you feel alive and not some dead person walking. You feel like you can take on this life without being afraid of what happened and what you might face. You feel as if as long as he’s near you’ll be alright. That’w why you came to find him in the first place, didn’t you. You hoped he’d help you see things as they had been before your accident, but that didn’t seem possible.
“Because if I don’t I’ll just be terrified. I’ll break down until there’s nothing left of me and I don’t think I’ll be able to cope. This is all that’s keeping me together. You’re keeping me together.” Those words are harder to speak out loud than you thought, as if speaking them makes them real and undeniable. You suppose that’s true. You can feel your heartbeat in your throat along with your breathing. It just won’t go away and the more you try to ignore it, the worse it gets.
“You died because of me. You shouldn’t even be able to look at me!” There’s so many things running through your head that want to respond to Percy. You manage to stop some of the more irrational ones, the ones you know you’ll regret the moment you speak them.
“Is that what you think you deserve? My anger? My hatred? You won’t get it. Yes, you caused this but it was an accident. That doesn’t make it right but if you are in such desperate need to repent for a mistake, you can do so! I need you, Percy! I need you right now because without you I fear I will fall apart! So please, I’m begging you; do not abandon me now.” You plead. He’s unmoving. You reach out. He doesn’t flinch or turn away. He doesn’t respond so you halt and repeat once more. “Please, Percy. I’m begging you…” You place your hand on his cheek and this time he leans into your palm, even if hesitantly so. You’re about to pull away, seeing that reluctance but before you can his hand clasps over yours and holds it in place.
“I will not ask for your forgiveness-“ You got to speak but he’s not finished yet. “I will not accept it should you offer it to me because I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forgive myself. But you’re right. If this is what you want, I’ll do it. I’d hand you the stars on a silver platter if you asked. I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to make this right.”
“Percy…” You sigh. That’s not what you meant. You don’t mean to ask for his compliance or service. You ask him to be your friend, your confidant, your rock when the tides get too much in the same way he has always been for you. You’re asking him to be himself, nothing more, nothing less but here he is offering you the world.
“I won’t ask you to accept or turn me away. I will be at your whims for however long you wish me to be-“ Percy keeps going. He has to make this right. You give him a chance to prove himself worthy of you and all you’ve given him. You’ve given him the chance to truly earn your forgiveness in your eyes and his. But you interrupt him by literally placing his palm over his mouth to silence him. Once you make eye contact and you give him a silent ‘are you done’ and he nods you let go.
“Then I order you to stop now.” His heart skips a beat. He cannot breathe. “I don’t need a knight in shining armour or some servant at my beck and call. I just need you. I just need you to be here, now. I don’t need the moon on a string, or you begging on your knees. I don’t need you to fetch me some drink or write me my correspondence. I need you to just be you.” That punch hits far harder than anyone could have dealt. It’s the sheer realisation that his life is more valuable than his actions and choices and deeds. His life exceeds a purpose. It’s a terrifying reality but then he looks at you and sees through you, into your own fear and doubt and he sees, that’s what you need. You need someone who understands fear and pain and he does. Gods he knows he does. That’s why you need him to be here and to be him. That’s why you can look him in the eye. You feel like he’s the only one that truly understands right now because he too, albeit a long time ago came to realise how fragile mortality truly is and all the thoughts that accompany that revelation.
“I know.” He whispers nodding to himself. He reaches out. He wraps his arms around you and holds you close. You allow yourself to twist and mould into his side, tuck under his arm and curl against his chest. This feels real. This is real. You can hear his heartbeat and the rise and fall of his chest with every breath; something you had previously not been aware of nor ever focussed truly focussed on unless it was out of the ordinary. You take a deep ragged breath yourself. You feel cold trail down your cheeks from your eyes and only truly process you’re crying when gloved fingers wipe them away. Percy whispers words of comfort; meaningless he might say but these are the words he had wished he heard when he was alone and suffering. You pull yourself closer to him until the tears subside.
There’s still a long way to go. This does not resolve the issue nor Percy’s guilt. This doesn’t make anything right or change anything. It’s the beginning of a road to a better future you carve out together. Wherever it leads, he will be at your side as long as this world allows. He’ll fight tooth to nail to have it be so. He’ll make this right. But most of all, he’ll be there for you.

My Knight Trapped In Armor
Critical Role Vox Machina
Vax x Fem! Reader
Minors Do Not Interact
Tumblr media
You have been with the group since the beginning for this long journey. Currently, collecting all the relics is your main mission. You’ve have gotten ahold of the first of the vestige and Vax had the honor of putting it on…. He was happy about it until he figured out that it will never come off.
You have been with Vax for a long while. You, Vax, and Vex were practically raised together. Ever since they ran from home you have always been there. You saved them from there first big fight. You haven’t strayed since that. You have always been there and helped them recruit the now known Vox Machina.
Vax has always had a crush on you, just didn’t want to ruin the friendship you had. Vex sees you as a little sister, Vax didn’t want to make it weird. He didn’t take the leap of faith until after the falling out at Whitestone to tell you how he felt, of course, with the encouragement of his sister. You returned the feelings and been with him ever since. So, onto the story.
The crew decided to make camp for the night. They found a nice clearing right before night fall so, everything was set up and ready to go before dusk. Everyone sat around the camp fire having normal conversation. Vax sat close to you. His new armor poking you every now and then but, you ignore it because you like the contact with him. Of course, you knew he could never take this off because his deal with the Raven Queen. You don’t even think that he knows how much he can… take of without something happening or being *gulps* cut of. Magic armor is dangerous.
In the middle of a small exchange with Scanlan, you felt Vax’s hand rest on your thigh. You gave him a side eye and he responded with a slight motion with his head. He wanted to go for a walk before it was too dark. You knew his queues by now. So, being the cunning girl you are, you got Grog into the conversation which accidentally (on purpose) made an argument between them about something dumb that somehow everyone else ended up in. As soon as the heat was off of you, Vax took your hand and walked of in the direction he suggested with his head.
You walked for a good 10 minutes before Vax finally stopped in his tracks.
“There. I think we are far enough, Darling.”
He turned to face you finally. He leaned down and gave you a kiss. You just giggled and kissed back,
“I think I know why you brought us out here. It’s been a little while, huh?”
He pulled away slight to lock eyes with you. You could see the lust and love for you run through his head.
“Of course it has. Everything is been chaotic as hell and you have been so badass recently. Finally, I can deal with this pent up heat you cause me. Darling, I would love to have you if you’d let me.”
He brought your hand to his face and kisses it. You giggled once again.
“Of course, My Love. I would love to have you.”
Vax gave you a toothy grin. He pulled you a little farther to the nearest tree and took a seat against it you. You took the queue and sat in his lap. You kissed him. Your hands locking themselves in his dark hair. He kisses back and set his hands on your hips. The kiss continued to deepen. He snaked his tongue into your mouth.
One of his hands reached up and made it’s way into your hair. The kiss finally parted. He used the interlocked hand in your hair to pull your head slightly back. He leaned forward and bit onto your neck. He proceeded to bit and suck on the supple skin. You let out a small moan. You felt the smirk against your neck as he continued down.
When he got to you collarbone, he released your hair. In return, you gripped his and pulled slightly. He growled out,
“Hey, are you gonna be nice or do I have to get mean?”
You gulped,
“N-no, Vax, Sir.”
“That’s what I thought.”
He reached down and grabbed at the hem of you shirt. Your armor has be taken off since the campsite. You knew it would be safe there so, you’ve been without it. You pulled up you shirt over your head and set it on the ground next to you. Your chest was now in full display to him. (With the armor your wear, it naturally cups your breast so, no need for a bra.)
“What a good fucking girl.”
You just let out a small squeak at the statement. The squeak turned into a moan as Vax took a nipple into his mouth. With the help of one of his hands, he played with your breast, switching between them. He nipped, sucked, and pinched at your nipples. All you could do is grip his hair and push your chest into his mouth. You, caught up in the pleasure, subconsciously started grind onto him. He could feel the friction through his armor. He kept his lips around one of your nipples as his hands left to join on your hips.
He pulled you down onto him. The pleasure increased for both of you. He could feel you through his armor, every little movement and pulse your pussy did. The friction of the engravings on the armor hit every friction need that you usually would have. Vax’s lips came off your nipple with a wet pop. Your nipples were now red and starting to swell slightly from the abuse that endured.
Vax removed his hands to reach down to his pants, he felt for and opening, anything that he could use get his cock out. He could only sit there for a second and watch his beautiful girlfriend drunkenly grind on him. Screw it, he wasn’t about to stop her to look for a opening. He’ll look for next time. Right now, he is going to get the both of you off. He grabbed you by the hips and started to grind up into her.
You closed you eyes in pleasure and arched you back. Your gripped his hair tighter and let out a moan of his name. He grunted in response and speed up. He could feel it. She’s getting close, well, he was too. He leaned up and kissed her desperately. You moaned into the kiss and turned it into a sloppy wet kiss. He felt like he needed to step the grinding. He moved a hand to caress the back of her head as he leaned forward to lay her on the grass. The kiss continued as he grinned harder and faster into her. The Vestige he wore increased his speed significantly.
You let out a loud moan of his name. He swallowed the moan. You broke the kiss reluctantly. Vax moved instantly to bite your neck. The coil in your stomach tightened,
“V-vax. I’m close. So so close.”
She desperately clawed at his back, which, of course, was armored. He growled. You knew that he was too. You arched your back off the ground. He quickly moved his arms under you. He quickly attached to one of your swollen nipples. That was all you needed.
“V-Vax-“
You didn’t even finish your statement because the tightened coil snapped. Vax felt how you froze and the pulsation against the armor. He ground down a couple more time before finishing himself, in his armor. And you, your panties and shorts you wore. You both caught your breath as you held each other.
“I love you so much, Baby.”
“I love you so much, My Love.”
After a couple minutes, Vax sat up first and grabbed your shirt. You thanked him and put it on.
“At least it’s dark, no one is gonna see my shorts. I’ll clean them tomorrow when the sun is up again.”
Vax chuckled and helped his Beloved up off the now wet ground,
“Yeah, but, the next question is, I can’t take this off… How the hell are we gonna clean my pants?”
You just giggled,
“We’ll figure it out, My Knight Trapped In Armor.”
Vax just grinned and kissed up before walking back in the direction of camp. You used your abilities to illuminate the surrounding area since the sun already set. You loved this man to death. You know that you would figure out something to make this easier for the both of you to get used to but…. what just happened… Wasn’t half bad.
I hope you have enjoyed this read! If you have anymore requests, I have an request post available. With that, see ya next post!

HIII!!! So I was thinking with the new batch of episodes for the legend of vox machina season 2 , there's been an idea brewing. HEAR ME OUT ON THIS ONE! The in-depth look at Vax becoming the raven queen's new champion was sosososo cool. WHICH GOT ME THINKING, what if that fate was subjected to the reader. Maybe right before Vax was able to go "take me instead you raven bitch!" the reader intervenes. Making it worse, the reader knows that Vax would want to sacrifice his life for his sisters in a heartbeat but the reader does not want him to lose what he could have. So as a way to both save Vax and Vex, you (the reader) offer yourself up instead. Now that you are connected to her, you are deemed instead as the new champion. To make this oh-so bittersweet, Vax and reader? *the other woman blasting from speakers* How he would react maybe? Feeling even more responsible knowing that you will be dealt a gruesome fate. But the reader was always ready to do it because it was for their "friend" </3
Oooh! This hurts the best way 😅💕🥹💔😭💞
I’ll answer this with some headcanons and small drabble too
Tumblr media
Analysis wise - I feel like Vax would still be a bit like his old self, but EXTREMELY on high alert once the party has to go on their quest(s) to Vasselheim and elsewhere. It comes with almost losing Vex, seeing the Matron, and the risk of his significant other now.
Headcanons….
It’s amazing at how well the Deathwalker’s armor adjusts to you, but still it feels weird
Sometimes Vax can’t help but stare in amazement and worry at you in the armor
Anytime there’s a conflict (the Sphinx, dragons, etc.) he’s super protective to you
But whenever you have a “vision”, he’s scared out of mind of what it entails to you. He saw her too just for a brief moment, so he knows/understands.
Vax is always there to talk to you, always checking on you, whenever for whatever. There’s an understanding with you two.
I still would think he’s “fate-touched”/tied to you, but your path is now altered as well.
Drabble
You waited till everyone was asleep after the scare with your new visions. Their breaths calmed you down for a while, but you needed to get some air. Stepping away from the fire, you tried to collect your thoughts. The quiet didn’t last long as you heard the shuffling of his boots behind you.
Turning to face Vax, you had your words prepared.
“I didn’t want to—.” But you were cut off as he scooped you tightly into his arms, head buried into the crook where your neck and shoulder met.
Vax’s arms were tighter around you than the supposed mantle you had just assumed.
“I don’t know what’s to come, but please..please! Tell me, let me in. Let me do whatever I can to help you. Together.”
It would have sounded so lovely coming from him if the cracks in voice didn’t chip away at your heart anymore than they already did. All you know is that you never wanted to be the source of his cries that haunted you in the Matron’s chamber.

The wildest part about people being mad on Imogen's behalf is Imogen herself understood Keyleth's position in spite of her own wishful thinking, helps acquire the blue flowers for her, was the first to acknowledge the Changebringer's help, and the first to say "I'm sorry" to Orym losing more of his people. I'm really baffled to read these "Orym is manipulative" takes and that it was dangerous of Keyleth to validate his anger. Do you think it goes back to the god stuff, or is it just Imodna?
I think a little of column A, little of column B, little of several other things. Since I've been on the "hey could we consider that Imogen and Laudna are adult women who are responsible for their own actions" train for over a year, the specific "Imogen can be mean-spirited as well as unintentionally insensitive" train since at least this past February, and the "Orym is correct and Bor'Dor signed his own death warrant by casting Vitriolic Sphere at a group of people who were not violent towards him" train for a month, let's break it down.
There are a small handful of people in the fandom who just really hate Liam. Per a very salty rant I put into my drafts shortly after 3x63 to describe this type of person, it is a small, scattered, bizarre group of people who for no apparent reason have decided to be foaming-at-the-mouth levels of furious because, as far as I can tell, a nerdy Gen X-er dad who went to Tisch is kind of corny sometimes. Anyway nothing he does will ever sit well with them so we can ignore them forever. Moving on.
Some is Imodna; I thought the whole issue of Imogen and Laudna as agency-less infants against a cruel world would have been ameliorated by them entering a canon relationship (one currently compatible with the 2013 Pinterest board vibes of fanon no less) but it appears to have not been the case. For more on this, see this still relevant post and, while I personally haven't ever written something up, there's just, again, a complete black hole of empathy from a segment of the fandom when it comes to any of the other characters; my post from this morning about Imogen as compared to Caleb touches upon it. You know the Far Side cartoon where a guy is talking to his dog and the dog only recognizes a small handful of words? I feel this is similar, like, they see that Imogen wanted one thing and Orym and Keyleth wanted another thing that wasn't even, as you point out, terribly incompatible, and then the "well if not thing Imogen wants and not 100% deferential to her then BAD BAD BAD" attitude kicked in.
But I do think, in the end, a lot of it does come back to if not the gods exactly, the idea that the Vanguard is, unmistakably, the enemy. They are not the revolution here to usher in a new era of rule by the people. Keyleth is not here to raze Vasselheim to the ground but to have a diplomatic discussion; neither is she here to grant any leniency to the woman who attacked Vax regardless of her connection to Imogen. And she finds the idea of a world without the gods, regardless of her own personal feelings, to be one to be avoided. [sidebar: I hope we get Matt on 4SD; I am wondering, after the one-two-three punch of Hevestro, the Raven Queen, and Keyleth all placing a heavy thumb on the scale opposing the Vanguard if he did not expect the party to be as conflicted about the role of the gods and is trying to wind up an argument that I think as of last episode reached the end of its useful life.] When you couple that with Orym's positive attitude towards the gods, that explains the animosity towards him.
The undermining of Orym's position over the past few episodes has always been one of emotion. First he was not objective - as if anyone else was objective! As if any moral decision is ever 100% objective! We all have biases! What kind of early 2000s atheist forum shit are you on to claim perfect rationality that conveniently matches the ideas that apparently came to you in a godless vision? It's insane. Then it was his grief; grief makes you irrational (unless you're Imogen grieving Laudna, in which case you are objectively right at all times, even as you shout down every other suggestion, beseech Laudna's first murderer, not a month later consider the potential validity of the her second, and try to to undo her immutable past) and remember, moral decisions must be made by the rational. Then it was his impatience (nevermind that Imogen has absolutely no patience). And now it's his anger, and he's apparently been manipulating the party the whole time by...having suggestions for the group which he mentions, and openly stating what he was feeling and what he wanted, and not intuiting that Laudna reawoke Delilah with his approximately no magical ability and then encouraging her to finish a job she had started herself. Because god Rational Objective Conceptual Being forbid women do anything; it is the role of the man to protect their fragile souls from all consequences.
Even more generally I think a lot of people- not just in this fandom, though certainly within this fandom - are terrified of anger. Like, they think they like it - they say they love barbarians (though rage is its own beast and I think very different from the anger Orym and Keyleth exhibit) but most of the discussion of them tends to veer more into angst, and most players of barbarians are often exploring emotions like grief, self-pity (as Ashton says), or frustration just as much if not more so than anger. I think a lot of people perceive anger as this awful thing inside them to be controlled and denied, or alternately to only be let out for whatever they think is a sufficiently righteous cause, and instead sit in an increasingly toxic stew of simmering resentment and conflict avoidance until they begin to think this is not just normal but aspirational - anything but that awful beast they call anger. It's not new in discussions of Keyleth, and it's not limited to her and Orym; I can point to nearly every single character who has had even the slightest of outbursts - even something as mild and controlled as Orym's whispered profanity or less - and I promise you there's been pearl-clutching for every single one of them.
Anyway, you make great points! One of the things that struck me about this episode and prompted my frustration and my post earlier today is that Imogen has changed. I think she's been mulling over Liliana since her appeals to her during the Key's activation were unsuccessful; she hesitantly told Chetney when he asked in Uthodurn that yes, if Liliana's death is necessary, she understands; and I think seeing the utter devastation and pain that was inflicted on Keyleth brought it into focus. She was much more open to FCG and the coin as well. And, you know, if one had embraced Imogen's moral ambiguity in the leadup to the solstice, and the possibility that she could betray the party, instead of shouting that down? Then one could see this as a beautiful moment of growth for Imogen. One could, in fact, if one was so inclined, attribute it to her new sense of ease thanks to her circlet, or even to her nascent romantic relationship. If one, of course, had wholeheartedly embraced Imogen's past moral ambiguity and the possibility of her betrayal.

hi friend, just caught up on critrole (spoilers) and watching orym and nana morri's scene, i couldnt help but think of vax's deal with the raven queen in campaign 1 with the whole 'i'll serve you if you help the person(s) i love'. i dont imagine nana will hold him hostage in the feywild at the end so that bells hells can only meet when they go there but i hope she doesnt. i need that orym x dorian reunion and i need it to not be hindered by orym bein stuck in another plane DX
that was my very second thought, right after "oh shit it's happening, it's happening!!" like. love this from a character perspective and a "lol Liam characters are gonna Liam" angle. haaaaaaaaaaaate it for the potential to upset an Orym x Dorian reunion.
but also? who else would understand "making a very specific deal with an entity who has proven herself to be not precisely benevolent, for the sake of your friends" than Dorian Alignment Change Storm? 👀👀👀

I'm loving the OUAT au, but I have so many questions about details, if you're interested in elaborating.
1. How does Vax escape the curse? Because he is fate touched by the Raven Queen?
2. What role/job does each Vox Machina/Mighty Nein/Bells Hells character have? Including Gilmore, Uriel, Kima, and Allura?
3. Whose true love's kiss breaks the curse, considering Percy x Vex are supposed to be the "true love" couple, but in the show it was the parent/child true love that broke the curse more than once?
of course!
I think he escapes because Vex and Percy ensure that he does. The plan is for him to take Vesper through the tree portal to the new world. Percy and Vex knew they could never escape the curse, not when it was centered around them to begin with. And there was no one they trusted more with their child than Vax. Where things went wrong was in the tree, he was holding Vesper's hand as they stepped through but when he reappeared in our world, she wasn't with him. And he found all of his memories of Exandria wiped and gone. Unbeknownst to them, the Briarwoods had planned for that very thing.
So I elaborated on this a bit on some other posts but here's a complete list!
Vex- works in an accounting firm Percy- an inventor working for Ripley Vax- Not part of the curse Pike- the Dr. Whale of this au Scanlan- a busker on the streets Grog- owns a 24 hour gym Keyleth- works in a greenhouse
Fjord- is a dockworker Caleb- a teacher at the high school Beau- works a boring desk job Jester- a struggling artist Veth- a thief, constantly in and our of jail Caduceus- loner living in a van in the woods Yasha- imprisoned (like Belle)
FCG- the Dr. Hopper of this au Laudna- in a coma in the hospital Imogen- reads to coma patients to help her anxiety Ashton- works a shitty retail job Fearne- owns the B&B Orym- an assistant to Keyleth Chetney- almost never leaves his home
Cassandra- forced to the Briarwoods' daughter Gilmore- owns a pawn shop Kima- is the sherrif Allura- works at the library
3. hmmmm I think that in this au it would be the same, Vax kissing Vesper's head after Delilah tries to kill her for trying to break the curse. He is not her parent, but he does truly love his niece so I could see that working in this au too.

Two for joy - Chapter 17
Tumblr media
(“Do they ever go back?”)
(“Go back?”)
(“To Byroden. To see their hometown, their mother’s grave.”)
(Laura tips her head to Liam.)
--
It’s particularly good luck that Vex is just setting out when there’s a flash of the most obnoxious purple in the courtyard.
“- See, dear?” says Gilmore with a flourish. “My way does have its perks.”
Gilmore? And Keyleth, too. That means -
“Stubby!” Fucker sneaks up on her, even in broad daylight, grabbing her around the middle to swing her up into a hug. Vex laughs - it uses all the air in her lungs and it’s perfect. Vax knows her well enough to put her down before she starts kicking at his legs. “Fuck - I missed you!”
As soon as her feet touch the ground Vex wraps him in a hug of her own. “I didn’t - was getting so used to not having you pop up out of nowhere or putting gross shit in my bed.”
They turn as one to Keyleth and Gilmore, still bickering about magical transport - it’s like pieces of a broken plate, slotted together perfectly. Jagged and dangerous apart, maybe less so if you pretended they were whole.
Vax hums. “Ah, you’ve discovered my motive. Look that way so I can slink off.”
“You can sure try-”
[One for sorrow] [Ch1] [Keep reading on AO3]
