What would you choose? :0c
(note: original image is from HERE (link) - but I edited it to add a wider variety of options.. also added $3 extra to the total, even though I know that makes it more uneven lol, I thought if you're adding 10 whole extra items, the money to spend should at least be increased slightly, if that makes sense..)
#I would get orange juice. black coffee. AND iced coffee ($3) because I love the variety of having multiple drinks#then sausage and scrambled eggs ($8). Then sauteed mushrooms ($3)....AND... hrm.. then spending the remaining $4 would be hard#I wish I could get waffles (as they are my favorite and are superior in every way compared to pancakes. donuts. etc.) but I'm not willing#to give up the other savory things just to get them. so... then maybe I could get a biscuit or english muffin? and just put jam or#honey butter or something on it so it can be my replacement 'sweet and bready' thing instead of something from the $5 row??#OR I could also just assume that having the orange juice plus iced coffee would provide enough of a 'sweet element' to the meal#(since I largely prefer savory foods. I only like a tiny bit of sweet added for variety) and thus forego any sort of#'bready' thing entirely and just get the bowl of beans/onion/tomato (I'd leave the avocado since I don't like the#texture of them really lol). THEN I'd have $1 left to get the milk or the black tea... increasing my total of random drinks..#which is always the goal of course.. as a chronic ''person who is sipping at 5 different drinks at their desk simultaneously always'' perso#OR... I could just do.. waffle. scrambled eggs. sausage. mushrooms. and black coffee and orange juice.. which is... okay variety#augh... so difficult.. As my Ideal Breakfast is like a buffet type thing or something where you have like 25 different things to choose fro#and can get a little tiny bit of everything. My eating style is very much like.. I'd rather pick at a small amount of a ton of#different things than just have a very large amount of only one or two things. Thats why I LOVE sample platter type stuff.#So it's like... augh... the ideal option would be a tiny portion of EVERYTHING actually lol...#Difficult to choose...#ANYWAY.. Also no idea why I added croissant instead of bagel. I only thought about that afterwards. I do actually like bagels.#I've only ever even had a croissant like 2 times in my entire life. Yet I've had many bagels. For some reason it stuck out in my mind more#when I was considering 'essential breakfast foods' somehow... how could I forget them... bagels my beloved...#Blame it on the hot weather... 'What in the blazes? The sun hath obliterated the concept of bagels from my miind!'#(< meant to be said in a silly overdramatic elderly wizard accent or something)#Also I don't think ''bowl of beans. onion. avocado. and tomatos.'' is necessarily a breakfast classic or something gbhjjh#but I was just trying to think of a versatile vegetable-ish side that could be full of common breakfast additions#so people could do stuff like ''oh I get the toast option and then the bowl of stuff and I put the avocado on the toast'' etc.#Like a mix and match. You could mix ingredients from different parts. You could put scrambled eggs and bacon and onion#on the bread or soemthing. etc. I just feel like something is always missing if a Full Breakfast Spread#doesnt have some sort of onions or beans or mushrooms or asparagus or spinach like... some sort of thing that isn't just eggs and meat and#bread.. you know? lol..#But then again.. I am the Sampling Plate Style Variety Lover and Tiny Portion Of Food Picker so maybe thats just a me thing.

is this like a prelude to the romcom with Kate Hudson and Glen Powell that they talked about? xD Will Zoey Deutch and Matthew McConnaughey also do a photoshoot together to rival these two? Hehe... that in itself could be the plot of a romcom ngl

i think its really awesome that there are so many ways to make the same dish that can taste so different but are still so good and recognizably the same thing even if it's not how you're used to it being made
#this bc i got mongolian beef from the family run place down the street#and its a very different flavor profile to how the place i grew up getting takeout from made it but its still recognizable as the same dish#and this one has so many sauteed onions!#world so beautiful and theres so much variety in food#dogwoodbark

literally why do i ever buy a burger. We Have Burgers At Home. They Are Nicer
#post inspired by how i just cooked a burger it was delicious#this isn't like deeply held i understand completely why one would want less-home-accessible burger experiences#(eg very crispy fried onions [annoying to make imo]‚ exotic toppings one would not think of‚ important gimmicks for a gimmick occasion)#and / or be hungry for burger and unable to make own burger for a variety of physical and circumstantial reasons#but me personally i hate novelty and difference and usually can stand up long enough for slicing and cast iron pan usage#so. a personal note for me. just cook burger it is nice. stop being disappointed by local burgers that are simply cooked less well#box opener#frankly a lot of this is that if i make fancy burger at home i don't then need to enter a negotiation re: whether i can refuse cheese#i like cheese but i like to be able to opt in to it. also frankly i prefer my usual garlic aioli-and-avocado substitution more#it serves a cheese purpose (fats‚ enhanced savories) so i consider it a reasonable exchange#but places with fancy burger are soooo offended by my disinterest in their four slices of swiss.

okay in more positive posts! I am making a frittata for dinner and I'm really excited!!!!!!!!!!! 🍳
#got some. zucchini and pepper and onion and feta........some tomatoes to put on top...........#i am excited to slice the pepper.#debating if i should pre cook the veggies SEE. LOOK. I KNOW I SHOULD. I KNOW.#but i personally like still-crunchy veggies in a soft food. like a calzone. i think it's peak textures. and sometimes you need the contrast.#but i dont think my brother appreciates that particular texture. i think he wants them all soft.#But I Need Some Variety.

What do we thing guys? All red brick or do we like the diorite brick? I think I like breaking it up buuuut the white is pretty stark against the deepslate. Given I have NO idea what I will be doing with the background of this underground 'base' soooo. The shape has been fun to work with since I'm building it around something rather than on it's own lol.
#my builds#minecraft#modded minecraft#this is housing the back end stuff of the tea bar#I tore out the side that looked more kitchen-y to relocate later it was such a weird shape#still is but at least its better lol#also which flowerbox are we feeling?#I like the vibrant colors of the supplementaries (left) but I like the 3d rendering of the another furniture (right) one.#obv I'm using a lot of brass casing everywhere but I kinda do want to transition to 'outside' just don't know how yet#I also love all of the 'wild' varieties of the farmer's delight plants as decorations#onions and potatos being my fave#I think I went a little overboard with the greenery on the patio but eh#its a 3 block space its gonna be crowded no matter what#maybe yellow terracotta instead of the diorite?#HMM#I'm gonna try that tomorrow I think that could be quite nice#its a little busy the flatter tone might help#or white terracotta a little pink could mute it a bit#I need to stop posting so late lol

op does a good rant but forgot onions
tfw you see some stupid post that paints medieval peasants eating just plain grey porridge and acting as if cheese, butter or meat was too exotic or expensive for them, and have to use all your inner strength to not just reblog it with an angry rant and throwing hands with people. so i will just post the angry rant here
no, medieval people did not only eat grey porridge with no herbs or spices, they had a great variety of vegetables we dont even have anymore, grains and dairy products, not to mention fruits and meats, all seasonal and changing with the time of the year. no, medieval food was not just tasteless, maybe this will surprise some of you but you can make tasty food without excessive spice use, and can use a variety of good tasting herbs. if you'd ever tried to cook some medieval recipes you would know that. medieval people needed a lot of energy for their work, if they would only eat fucking porridge all of the time they would get scurvy and die before they could even built a civilisation. they had something called 'pottage' which was called that because it was cooked in one pot. you could leave the pot on the fire and go about your day, doing stuff and come back to a cooked meal. they put in what was available that time of the year, together with grains, peas, herbs, meat etc etc. again, if you would try to make it, like i have with my reenactment friends, it can actually be really good and diverse.
dont confuse medieval peasants with poor people in victorian england. dont think that TV shows what it was really like. dont think that dirty grey dressed people covered in filth were how the people looked like.
they made use of everything. too poor to buy proper meat? buy a sheeps head and cook it. they ate nettle and other plants we consider weeds now. they foraged and made use of what they found. hell, there are medieval cook books!
most rural people had animals, they had chickens (eggs), goats (milk and dairy), cows (milk and dairy), sheep (milk and dairy) and pigs (meat machine), and after butchering they used ALL THE PARTS of the animal. you know how much meat you can get out of a pig, even the smaller medieval breeds? the answer is a lot
if you had the space you always had a vegetable garden. there are ways to make sure you have something growing there every time of the year. as i said they had a variety of vegetables we dont have anymore due to how farming evolved. you smoked pork in the chimney, stored apples in the dry places in your house, had a grain chest. people could go to the market to buy fish and meat, both fresh and dried/smoked. they had ale, beer and wine, that was not a luxury that was a staple part of their diet.
this post ended once again up being longer than i planned, but please for the love of the gods, just actually educate yourself on this stuff and dont just say stupid wrong shit, takk
#onions are so important#alium is a dietary hero#depending on how you cook your cropleek and what variety you're using you get so much flavor in so many varieties#like all serious cooks know this but in the medieval context it was even more important because aliums grow just fine in northern europe#but yeah the THING ABOUT A PORRIDGE#is it's just a format you might as well say the meal is sandwich

what does it say about me that the only meat i feel comfortable eating is the butcher scraps
If you put a desirable cut on my plate, I will squirm. It's not desirable to me because I get upset and anxious about it instead. I have no problem with a fat cap ground into paste, a strip of innards, a fragment of bone, or a cup of blood. I can't eat a steak, though. No lamb chops, no pork loin, and no chicken breast. Sometimes a chicken leg makes me feel extravagant and bad.
#internalmelon#some 'normal'#things (like chicken biryani or carnitas or a ham sandwich) feel like exceptions but then out of nowhere i get the shame?#i also dont really like when people put too much vegetables and herbs in the stock?#i only put a leek or green onion and a bay leaf and then maybe a slice of ginger root?#i might add a star anise or juniper berry when i make an actual soup from the stock but i need my stock to be very simple and a bit watery#i try to make it seem like i eat a variety but it is all just a permutation of the same set of safe foods bc i'm hashtag Weird About Food™#i feel like i have the lutheran version of classic lapsed catholic brainworms cause like#if im not constantly busy and denying myself and being pathologically frugal then the “you're actually a horrible person” feelings happen#and if somebody does something unjust to me i just kind of grin and bear it until i totally break down like wtf is that about
