Celegorm but everything about him is 10x funnier because he's a chronic ainur fucker and just doesn't tell anyone about it. He looks inwards and decides marriage is between elves so deciding to roll around with maiar of the hunt is absolutely valid and not marriage. Who's ever heard of an elf marrying a Maia?
Elven polyamory may be illegal but it doesn't count if he's just ferrying kisses between Oromë and Vána- they're not elves. No, it's not hypocritical, what are you talking about. Just don't tell his father. What? No, not because of the whole polyamory thing, Feanor's just got a thing about Valar. Yes Celegorm is sure that's the only reason he doesn't want to tell his dad.

Note
How are my best friends the horrors doing?!?
No one else seems to be hanging out with them :(
//hugs them//
Yeah, nobody really comes around, sadly. Probably because of the lack of a PFP. Probably should do something about that.

“Okay, we have the chocolate brownie ice cream and the popcorn. What else?” Monnie asked me while I pushed the cart through the grocery store's aisles.
“Oouu, I want pickles!” I exclaimed a little too loudly.
“Pickles! ‘Vana, in a minute, I’m gone start to think your ass is pregnant. Do we need to get a test, girl?” Monnie said, standing in front of the cart.
“Shut up, please. The last thing I want to do is think about being pregnant for that man,” I said, rolling my eyes.
“Damn, he already got demoted. Just two days ago, he was bae and hubby, now he is that man. Baby, you don't play, huh?” Monnie said, laughing into her hand.
“I’m beyond pissed right now. Why the fuck wouldn't he just tell me?” I said as I released a deep breath.
“Well…” Monnie said as she paused in the aisle.
I turned to face her. “Well? What you mean by that?” I asked, crossing my arms across my chest.
“To be honest, Terry probably knew you would beat his ass and her’s, too. ‘Vana, you've changed a lot. But,… that southern girl who was whoopin’ grown ass men wit’ no problem is still there. You ain't to be played wit’, and I think Terry knows that,” Monnie said, raising her hands in defense.
“Okay. You act like I was walkin’ around beatin’ on men. They all had it comin’, Monnie. I was not the problem, but these hands were solvin’ them. How is that my fault?” I asked, tilting my head at her.
“Look, I never said you were the problem. Let’s be honest; you're the only reason, ol’ boy who shall not be named, left me alone. He even told me he was scared of you. Baby, I used that to my full advantage every chance I got!” Monnie replied.
“Wait a damn minute. So, you're tellin’ me that you were tellin’ niggas I was gonna whoop them for fuckin’ wit’ you?” I gasped.
“Hell, yeah. You see ain't nobody fuck wit’ me,” Monnie said, smacking her lips.
“Get the fuck outta here!” I laughed.
Monnie walked up to me and fell out laughing on my shoulder. This was the first I had heard this. I knew men back home were a little intimidated by me, but I didn't realize it was this bad.
I heard someone whispering behind us as we laughed in the middle of the aisle. Monnie’s laughter was cut short as her head shot up to look in that direction. I turned to look over my shoulder. I could see two women at the end of the aisle. They were whispering and giggling back and forth like schoolgirls.
Monnie raised from my shoulder and stood in front of me. She leaned in close before speaking. “Don't freak out, okay? Those two have been following us around. At first, I thought I was trippin’ out, but now, I'm sure. Shorty wit’ the braids also mean-mugged you earlier. You know them or something?” Monnie asked, scrunching her face in confusion.
“No. I’ve never seen either one of them before. I mean… I don't think I know them,” I mumbled lowly. I was overcome with confusion and anxiety. “Look, just don't worry about it. They’re gone,” I said, turning Monnie around to head down the aisle in the opposite direction. Truth be told, Monnie was just as much of a hothead as me.
We continued to walk down the freezer aisle. We were forced to walk around a little longer because I needed to look for my pickles, and then we could leave. At the end of the aisle, I looked both ways before pushing the cart around the corner. I could hear Monnie sigh as she looked behind us.
“If it’s them, ignore it. I don't have time for it,” I said, looping my arm around Monnie’s.
“Hoes better not start. I’m gonna behave for now,” Monnie said, scoffing.
“Monnie!” I laughed, pulling her down the aisle.
I scanned the aisle for my pickles. I was in the mood for kosher baby dill pickles. It’s a shame my childhood obsession never ended.
I spotted the pickles on the bottom shelf. I squatted down to reach for the pickles.
“Damn! Bigger in person aren’t we?” said a woman’s voice.
I turned to face the voice, and both women from before were standing there. They were once again laughing.
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” I asked, standing up to put the pickles in the cart. I stood to my full height and moved towards the women.
“Nah, ignore it. Remember?” Monnie said, placing her hand on my chest. She turned me back around so I was no longer facing them. I grabbed the cart and began pushing it again.
“Monnie, if they keep following us, I'm going to lose my shit. What the fuck was that about?” I questioned. I couldn't wrap my brain around this whole situation.
That’s when it hit me— THE ONE WHO COMMENTED WAS TAYLOR! How the fuck did I miss that? I barely looked at her profile when she sent me the messages and screenshots about her and Terry.
“Monnie, that’s her. That was Taylor. I didn't notice at first. How the fuck didn't I catch that?” I said, face-palming myself.
“Wait which one?” she leaned in to whisper.
“The one who spoke,” I whispered.
“You know what? Let's just pay for our stuff and leave because I already don't like this bitch,” Monnie said, rolling her shoulders. “Havana?!” she blurted.
I looked at Monnie's face. I hadn't heard a word she said. I was dissociating because of my growing anger and agitation.
“Ah, shit. I know that look. ‘Vana, let's just go,” Monnie said, grabbing my arm.
“No, I want my damn pickles. Plus, if they know what's best for them, they'll leave me the hell alone. I'm already mad at the one person who could rel—!” I said before Monnie covered my mouth.
“Fine. Just shut up. I don't need to hear nothing else about what that man be doin' nasty to you,” she laughed.
Five minutes later
beep

“You're total is 13.87. Cash or card?” asked the cashier.
“Cash. Here you go,” I said, smiling at the middle-aged Hispanic woman.
“Out of 20. You're change is—,” she said.
“Now, we both know you don't need any more junk food,” said the one voice I didn't need to hear— Taylor's.
“Girl, don't start. ‘Vana stay focused,” Monnie said through gritted teeth. It was clear that she was becoming irritated with Taylor and her friend.
“Sorry, here's your change,” said the cashier.
“My bad. Have a good day,” I said back taking the change and placing it into my wallet.
Monnie grabbed the bag and pushed me in front of her. I was on high alert and so was she. She was either putting a barrier between me and Taylor or getting closer so she could go off.
As we headed towards the doors, I felt Monnie's grip tighten. I didn't like the fact that I wasn't watching her back. I tried to slow down, so we could walk side-by-side, but she pushed me to keep going.
Once we were at the doors, I felt something hit my shoulder. It was Taylor bumping into me.
“Oops. It was hard not to with you being so big and all,” Taylor said, waving her hands around.
“Aye, you betta chill. I'm holdin’ her off for now, but yo’ lil ass got one more comment before I—,” Monnie started.
“Before you what? She'll get tired before she even reaches me,” Taylor laughed.
“Oop!” said her friend giggling.
“You for sure betta shut the fuck up. Because I'll get on yo’ ass myself!” Monnie said, walking towards the other woman.
“Nope. They're not worth it. If they were gonna do something, they would've already. Let's go!” I called to Monnie while grabbing her arm and pulling her around Taylor and her friend.
“She thinks I'm scared of her. That's cute. Terry might be, but I ain't. Ain't shit about you frightenin’. Bigger they are, the harder they fall!” Taylor yelled as I was turning.
“Little girl, leave me the fuck alone before I snap yo’ ass in half. You know what? What the fuck am I talkin' for? Balls in your court, baby. Make a move,” I said as I eyed Taylor down.
Taylor and her friend just stood there.
“Exactly!” Monnie said.
“My point has been made. Scary asses!” I said, looking Taylor up and down as I walked out.
As I walked closer to the second set of automatic doors, I heard the rumble of an all too familiar truck.
“Uh oh, here comes that man,” Monnie said.
“I'm not in the mood for this,” I mumbled under my breath.
Before I could get through the doors, Terry came barreling in.
“You okay, mama? Look at me!” he said, holding my face.
“I'm fine. You need to check your lil friend. She fuckin’ with me on the wrong day,” I said, moving my head. Right now, I didn't want to be touched.
“I don't give a fuck about her. I love you, and you know that, ‘Vana. Please, can you just listen to me? Come home w—,” he said before being interrupted.
“Not you beggin’ this bitch. Really?” Taylor asked, crossing her arms.
“Shut the fuck up, please. Damn!” Terry barked. His voice was so intense it even scared me.
“Huh? Fuck you!” Taylor yelled at Terry as she walked closer.
I immediately stepped in front of him like a barrier, turning to face Taylor. “Terry, get in the truck. Now!” I yelled.
I turned to see Terry still standing behind me, looking down at me. Monnie was now standing near the door, eyeing Taylor's friend.
“Terence Richmond, get in the damn truck!” I spat.
Terry began to back up before finally turning to walk back out. I looked at Monnie, and she was in attack mode. I was trying my hardest to diffuse the situation.
“Monnie, go. I'm leaving with Terry,” I said, turning Monnie so she could walk out.
Monnie resisted gently not wanting to take her eyes off them. I nudged her a little harder.
“Okay!” Monnie said, throwing her hands up in defeat.
“Thank you,” I said. I walked out to see Terry's truck parked a few feet away from the entrance.
“I said in the truck not outside of it. Please, just—,” I said, closing my eyes and releasing a deep breath.
Before I could finish, I heard the automatic doors open again. I didn't even have to turn around I knew who it was.
“Aw, he don't listen, huh? You know Terry's always been stubborn,” she said. I could hear her walking closer.
I eyed Terry and motioned towards the truck. I wanted him in, now. I looked over to make sure Monnie was still heading towards her car. When I saw that she was, I moved closer to Terry.
“Havana, just get in. Please,” Terry pleaded.
“No, I need you to get in first. Please,” I said, sharpening my gaze. I saw Terry's eyes dart from me to Taylor. I was only doing this so she wouldn't bother him. Lord knows I would go to jail behind him.
Terry opened the door and got into the truck. I immediately felt Taylor's presence behind me. I turned around to see her close to Terry's truck. I took a deep breath and walked around the back of the truck to avoid her.
Terry started the truck as I came around the other side. I could see Taylor's eyes going back and forth between me and Terry. A smirk slowly spread across her face. I knew she was up to something, but I couldn't care. My main concern was getting me, Terry, and Monnie out of here quickly.
Monnie pulled up beside Terry's truck, facing the opposite direction. Before I could even reach the door, Taylor approached Terry's window. Unfortunately for him, he was too busy watching me. Swinging the grocery bag in her hand, she hit Terry's window. I see the glass break as Terry ducks away. Whatever was in the bag was glass as well. So when it broke open in the bag, it slipped out of a hole in the bottom, hitting Terry in the face.
Taylor turned away to run, but I was obviously quicker than she thought. Before Taylor could blink, I was on her ass. I snatched the back of her hooded jacket and yanked her backwards by her braids.
My hands went straight for her face, punch after punch landing without a problem. Her friend attempted to approach me, but Monnie wasn't having it.
I snatched Taylor by her hair, slinging her body into the front of Terry's truck. You could hear the impact as it collided with a thud. I saw red!
A bystander walked up to me, grabbing my hands. I pushed the man back, causing him to stumble.
“Nah, this is what she wanted! She should've left me alone!” I yelled as I continued to beat Taylor's ass. She was fighting for her fucking life. All she could do from this angle was scratch the hell out of my forearms.
“’Vana!” Terry yells. I had never heard him sound like this.
I look up to see a horrific sight. The left side of Terry's face is bloody. Now, I'm internally conflicted— do I continue to whoop her ass or check on Terry? I let Taylor go and push her head into the truck.
I run to the passenger side to open the door and climb in. I grab Terry and gently pull him towards me.
“Baby, look at me! Shit!” I yell, noticing the gash on his cheek.
“Havana, please!” Terry asked, holding his eye.
“I'm done. I'm done. I promise. Hey, let's go!” I said climbing over Terry.
I sat in the driver's seat.
I panicked when I remembered that Taylor was in front of the truck.
I leaned out the window and yelled at the crowd of people, “ Move her or else!”.
Unfortunately, no one was listening to me. Their only concern was me not leaving the scene. Fuck that!
I threw the truck in reverse and gassed it. I heard people begin to yell. I leaned over Terry to yell at Monnie.
“I'm taking him to the hospital! Follow me, please!” I yelled, shaking.
I whipped out of the parking lot and entered the somewhat busy street. Not caring, I drove down the turning lane. As I approached the stoplight it turned red.
“You better not! I'm not dyin', baby. I care about your life too. Relax, ‘Vana. I'm okay,” he said.
I slammed on the brakes at the stoplight. Glancing back and forth between Terry and the stoplight, I found myself growing more and more anxious.
“What's hurting?” I asked Terry as I softly caressed his cheek.
“My eye and my cheek. I feel like there's glass in it,” Terry groaned.
“I know it hurts, baby. We'll get there soon. Okay?” I said, stroking the back of Terry's neck.
Once the light turned green, I turned onto the next street. The hospital was less than a block away at this point. Before I could get there, I heard the wail of a police siren. I looked in the rearview mirror to see Monnie pulling over, but the police cruiser drove past her. I should've seen this coming.
I continue to drive, I don't pull over until I'm at the front entrance of the hospital. I quickly pull out my phone and text Monnie to come get Terry if they allow her. I quickly tell Terry the plan.
“I'm so sorry. I should've just left when we had the chance. I feel so stupid,” I said, feeling myself about to cry.
“Mama, calm down. I'm fine, and I'll be okay. Alright?” Terry said.
I shook my head yes. As I'm focused on Terry, there's tapping on my side of the truck. I turn to see the sheriff.
“Terry?! Hey, son! You good?” he asked leaning to get a closer look.
“He’s hurt!” I said frantically.
“I wasn't talkin’ to you, yet.” he spat, glaring over his sunglasses at me.
“Jim. She didn't do anything,” Terry said, leaning on the window.
“You stay here. Don't fucking move, girl! Terry, we're gonna get you out of there,” the sheriff said, walking to Terry's side of the truck.
He opened the door. I could hear footsteps behind the truck. It was Monnie.
“Listen, Jim. Can she take me in?” he asked, nodding towards Monnie.
The sheriff paused and gave Monnie a once-over. “Fine. Come get him, and be careful. That one is my only concern,” he said, pointing at me.
He helped Monnie lift Terry out of the truck. She pulled Terry's arm over her shoulder. I hated this.
I watched in shame as Monnie walked Terry towards the entrance of the hospital. The front doors opened and a man came out with a wheelchair.
As I watched them sit Terry in it, guilt washed over me. If I would have just left, none of this would have happened. This really was all my fault.
Tears were streaming down my face. As I watched the sheriff walk back to my side, I knew what was about to happen.
“Step out. Hands in the air. Now!” he yelled.
Female victim en route from Dixie's to McGraw General
“Fuck!” I said out loud. That had to be a radio transmission about Taylor.
“Just comply!” he said. His tone was laced with irritation.
I opened the door and stepped out of the truck. I immediately put my hands in the air.
“Do you have anything on you?” he asked.
“No, sir,” I said, calming myself down.
He proceeded to pat me down. “Do you know why I stopped you?” he asked, pulling my arms down.
“Yes, sir,” I sighed.
“Good. Then, you know why you're under arrest,” he said placing my hands behind my back.
Before I could even try to stop it, I broke down crying. Not because I was going to jail but because I was back in the same position I was back home. I had worked so hard to never let this happen again. Yet, here I was getting arrested for assault for the third time.
I felt like all of the progress I had made was in vain. If had let Taylor cause me to regress so easily, had I even changed at all? Or, was I pretending to be someone I'm not?
My mind began to cloud over with thoughts. I was once again the big, angry monster everyone painted me out to be— always angry, aggressive, and ready to attack. The girl everyone avoided and talked about.
As he walked me to his police cruiser, I felt a sense of dread and guilt arise. The thought of not being there for Terry hurt me more than any of the words Taylor said. This was all my fault, and I couldn't even be there for him. All I had to do was keep my hands to myself and walk away, but I didn't. Now, I have to live with that decision and its consequences. What the fuck is going to happen to me now?

the god of the forests once took a lover who was called the fairest among his own people. celegorm the third child of feanor of the noldor was perfectly formed in every way, so much that it was almost as though his mother had simply carved him from marble and then breathed life into him. the sun was reflected in the gleam of his golden hair, and his eyes, though pale, held strange depths.
orome came upon celegorm when the boy, who had just become a man, was hunting deer alone in his woods. great orome, being overcome with celegorm’s fine beauty, transformed himself into a mighty stag, and allowed celegorm to chase him, and then to fell him. when he began to cut apart his quarry, hands warm with blood, orome took on his true form once more, and celegorm looked into the face of his god, and found himself enchanted in turn.
all was well for a time between them, but celegorm was vain as well as beautiful. whenever he lay with the god he would ask: am i not fairer than the queen of spring, who makes the flowers grow? am i not more skilled in bed than your holy wife? and orome implored him not to speak such words, for he feared to incur the wrath of vana his wife, but celegorm did not listen.
and so when ever-young vana heard the boasts of her husband’s lover, she, furious and humiliated, sought to repay him for the insult. she went to nessa her sister by marriage, and they spoke of how this ought to be done.
that night, while his divine lover slept unknowingly beside him, celegorm was awoken by the gentle tune of a flute. as though compelled, he crept from their bed out into the night to follow the music, and as he followed the sound he began to dance. alone in the otherwise silent woods, he spun in circles, again and again. the music sped up, and so did he. the music did not stop, and so neither could he. celegorm’s bare feet began to bleed, but he paid them no thought, and his blood he trampled into the soil that he churned as he danced.
much later, the song ended.
when the sun came up the next morning, orome searched for celegorm, and came eventually to a clearing in the heart of the forest. his lovely corpse lay there in the pale sunlight like an offering, and his feet were bloody and ruined.

Ranking the Valar by how much I hate them.
12: Lorien/Irmo - Idk why, but I kind of vibe with him. His only fault is being Mandos’s brother but he didn’t really do anything to piss me off himself. He seems dreamy & has a nice garden.
11: Orome - He’s cool but he’s still a Vala (who are objectively horrible) at the end of the day. Gets points for not going out of his way to make the Feanorians lives worse though & giving Celegorm a cool but disloyal dog.
12: Aule - Thank you for the Dwarves king! Unfortunately he’s married to Yavanna who I can not stand.
11: Nienna - Her heart seems to be in the right place. I like her.
10: Este - I don’t speak ill of healers on this blog! Even though she failed to heal Miriel I guess, she still made a bigger effort than everyone else.
9 & 8: Vana & Nessa - I just don’t think about them to be honest.
7: Tulkas - His purpose for existing is to beat up Melkor but he’s not even perfect at that. What’s wrong with you dude? Were you asleep when Melkor was making Feanor & Turin’s lives hell?
6: Yavanna - Her entitlement makes me seethe. I guess she did create the two trees but she basically gave away the light for free, she can’t ask for it back. Not the worst though, but I still don’t like her.
5: Vaire - Girl it’s nice of you to let Miriel live with you and all but why the heck were you like “but what about Indis's feelings” when Finwe was talking about how he wanted to give up getting reembodied for Miriel. This ain’t about Indis, why do her feelings matter?
4: Varda - Hallowing the Silmarills was such an a-hole move. The hallowing isn’t even fair, it’s just about who Varda wants to have the Silmarills. Does she think THINGOL is pure hearted? The Silmarill should have burnt him to a crisp.
3: Ulmo - Nothing short of a salty b!tch, thank goodness he’s single because I’d feel bad for anyone who had to put up with him. And why does he like bland ass TUOR so much while hating talented icons like the Feanorians?!
2: Manwe - He’s the 2nd fakest creature in existence after his big brother. Feanor doesn’t want your tears, where were you when your brother was murdering his dad, stealing his work, & previously harassing him for years non stop?
1: Mandos/Namo - F*ck this a-hole. At least Manwe has the excuse of being canonically stupid. He’s just an ass for the sake of it. And what’s his beef with Feanor? Free my king, all his faults are because you decided to shove Indis into his life & allowed Melkor to go free.
The actual #1: Melkor (obviously)

Legends and myths about trees
Forest myths, Estonian traditional beliefs (7)
The world of the Estonians’ ancestors – Metsavana, the old man of the forest
Metsavana, also known as metsataat or metsaisa, is a forest deity in Estonian mythology. Metsavana is a compound of metsa ("forest") and vana ("old, ancient"). The names metsataat and metsaisa translate to "forest father" or "forest old man".
Metsavana is one of the many types of forest spirits found in Estonian mythology, such as Metsaema ("forest mother"Ref) and Metsik ("forest fairy" Ref2). Finnic folklore has links with Slavic mythology, shown in Metsavana's similarities with the Leshy and corresponding other spirits.
Estonian forest spirits are often seen as tricksters, generally benevolent but posing some danger to humans who stray from the path or act against them. In Komi folk religion, he is referred to pseudonymously to avoid catching his notice, using names such as "uncle" (djadja) and "old man".
Each forest has its own metsavana. Metsavana is described as a tall elderly man with an unkempt beard, overgrown with moss. His clothes are made of birch and he wears a large birch hat and boots. Metsavana rules over the forest, deciding how plentiful the hunters' harvest will be, and he can speak with the birds and animals. They can be the protectors of wild animals, for example bears, wolves, snakes and foxes.

I know many people don’t care about the norse spirits, either following the general witchblr lore ones or not following any at all, but i feel like I at least need to tell my followers how Honestly the spirits are kinda more important than the gods in terms of acts of devotion/veneration/offering/service/whathaveyou
If the gods are the ceos of giant corporations then the spirits are the corner shops run by a family that lives in the same house or the food truck near your job, there’s very few ceos but they hold amazing power, there’s a lot of small under-appropriated businesses and service workers that the world can’t function without
Pour one out for the askafroa who lives under the most important tree, give a snack to the nisse or He Will Leave and take his luck with him, suck up to the rå cuz they’re honestly kinda dangerous, warn before you pour liquid on the ground or the vettr will hold a grudge (not good, very bad actually)
Yearly reminder to take care of the spirits near and in your home and be careful of the dangerous ones
Avoid beautiful strangers that you have a bad feeling about
Consider leaving a snack for the nisse in your home and an offering to the most influential tree in your area (I’ve recently learned that some cacti have wood inside and thus also kinda count as trees)
Leave a snack out for the rå that have moved to the city due to settlements popping up in their areas (leave a sandwich on a park table, leave a granola bar on a subway station bench)
Don’t enter running water on your own (this is just generally water safety advice as well, always have a buddy)

Do you think Vanalliea would want to see you self flagellating over her? Because from here all that “I don’t deserve to talk about it” looks a lot more self-pitying than genuinely remorseful.
Are you really upset because you hurt him? Or just because, in doing so, you lost someone important to you?
Tumblr media
> His wings flare out with his sudden surge of emotion, almost as though they were a threat display.
"How fucking dare you speak to me like this about him. As if a faceless coward has such a right to question if I am upset for only myself. I cared, I loved him."
Tumblr media
"Cantare was a kind person. A beautiful soul-- If I could go back and get kicked off of Saral before we'd even met, solely so they could have their home back, I would do so in a heartbeat."
"And you will not speak her name and act like you know her, wretch."

Mmmmm I wanna do sumthing.
So Damien, as a character, is made up of three key components/fatal flaws. Loyalty, Wrath and Envy, Protectiveness being an offshoot of the first two. I really want an arc where it’s people seeing Damien for who he sees himself as, a monster.
It’s put the best way by himself, in his own diary, YO KELLY ROLL THE CLIP-
“November 2nd, 2023. | Seeing them again after so long is… frustrating. Why are they acting so kind to me? I caused most of this to happen. I caused them to die. Nothing has made sense since I left my old life, my old name. I guess that’s on par with the whole Harbinger thing Hareal was talking about…
No matter what that means. It was great seeing them again, but I always felt like there was something I didn’t deserve this in the back of my mind, screaming at me that I caused their downfall and that I was a horrible monster… persistent thoughts from 3 months ago, nothing new.
Overall, good enough day. I didn’t cry when I saw them. Vana told me Alecks was alive again, I’m going to go off and look for him later this month. See you tomorrow, feelings. -Damien H”
Anyway, basically speaking, I want people to suffer like Damien has, to see what he sees and to feel the pain that he’s in constantly, cuz I am ITCHING to let angsty Damien out.

An Oath of Feelings - Final part
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pic credit: @reeeereeeereeereee
Arulmozhi made his way through the long corridor. He swore he saw Vanathi just a minute ago , her jasmine-decorated long hair fluttering in the soft breeze, her voice echoing as she laughed at a joke of one of her Sakhis. Goodness! when did he became attuned to her so much? Now he understood what his Anna was saying about love- it was sweeter than honey, addicting than any intoxicant in the world and it strengthens one's resolve, not weaken it. He thought of all this while he stood in the empty corridor, wondering how his Anna was able to survive all those years not able to see Nandini when he himself was feeling morose after not seeing the stealer of his heart for a day. Maybe he should talk with Vanthiyathevan? No, he dismissed that line of thought immediately. There was no limit to how much Kundavai teased him after the incident the other night about his brave-but-utterly reckless attempt at window jumping. And how dare Vanthiyathevan join in when he was the one who suggested the idea in the first place? No, he isn't going anywhere near those two. He will prove his love on his own. Thus deciding, he retraced his steps back to his chambers.
Once his footsteps started to fade away, Vanathi came out of her hiding place behind the pillar and gazed at the retreating figure. Maybe she was taking this a bit far? Should she talk to him? But what result would that give? He may say something sweet and she will fall for it and then he would go back to ignoring her again. What she wished, what she craved was for him to show his feelings for her, feelings that her Akka claim exists. Many a time she has seen Vanthiyathevan kissing the back of Kundavai's hand or whispering in her ear or simply gazing at her when she was preoccupied by some other task. He was indifferent to the fact that they were other people watching or making remarks about them. How many times has she imagined her Yaanai pagan gazing at her so, of him whispering sweet nothings in her ear or him standing close to her in public so that everyone will know they belong to and with each other. She wondered if all these fantasies will come true or remain the same. Her train of thoughts was broken by one of her Sakhis.
"Vanathi, why didn't you tell us you were playing hide-and-seek with Ponniyin Selvan?" her sakhi taunted her.
"Oh be quiet!" Vanathi whispered in annoyance before walking off.
--------------------------------------------
Vanathi has never really been jealous of her Kundavai Akka, in fact she greatly admired her Uyir Thozi's intelligence and courage. But at this moment, when she was sitting with her in her chamber, preparing for the evening aarti, she realised she was envious of Kundavai - not of her reasoning and understanding but of her success at a fruitful relationship. Ever since they had been acquainted with a certain Vana clan prince, she had seen a budding affection forming between the two. She didn't exactly knew when it became solidified but once she heard him call her Akka an 'Apsaras' and saw Kundavai's face turn as red as kumkum and she knew - this was not a mere flirting. She heard a genuineness in his voice, the same genuineness she heard when he earlier declared " Uyir ungalodayathu Devi". She thought of all this when she kept glancing at Kundavai, who was humming while arranging the Pooja thali. Just then a servant came in " Ilaiya Piratti, Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan is seeking permission to enter" .
"Let him in " Kundavai said excitedly
"Speak of the devil and the devil is here" mused Vanathi. She was quite fond of the Vana Kula Prince and already considered him as a brother but she was still disappointed that he didn't attempt to give some good advice to Ponniyin Selvan despite their close friendship.
Vanthiyathevan came in " How are you this evening, ladies?" He asked . His sense of formality was often times confusing. In public, he resorted to formal titles such as 'Ilaiya Piratti' and 'Kodumbalur Ilavarasi ' but in private he called her as 'Devi' or even 'Maya Kannan' while he reserved the sweetest of nicknames for his lady love.
"Vanthiyar, do you have any news for us?" Kundavai asked
"Devi, things are as you know. Sendhan Amudhan will reach Thanjai in 2 days time" Vanthiyathevan replied
Vanathi was confused. What? Sendhan Amudhan is coming? But why? Suddenly she remembered Arulmozhi's oath of bestowing the crown. Surely he didn't say it seriously? Surely he only said it to spite her?
"And Samudrakumari will also be joining him. They decided to have the wedding ceremony the day after they arrive. So much preparations yet to be made" Vanathi heard Vanthiyathevan continuing his narration and Kundavai nodding along. Marriage? What marriage? She realised she said this thought aloud as both faces turned towards her.
" Yes, Maya Kanna. Perhaps you missed out on the news. Ilavarase wasn't joking when he said he wished to hand over the crown to Sendhan Amudhan. He presented the matter with the emperor and he too agreed that this was a rightful decision"
"And what about Samudrakumari?"
"Ah that. Amudhan has always loved Poonguzhali and although she was reluctant at first, as she doubted the genuineness of his feelings she later returned his feelings and has now accepted his hand in marriage. I am not bragging but I may have had a hand in uniting the couple." Vanthiyathevan said with a smirk and earned a pinch in the arm from Kundavai for 'going off topic'.
Vanathi was already in her world of overthinking. So, Ponniyin Selvan wasn't in love with Poonguzhali? Then why did he admit having that conversation with Kundavai Akka? Was there any existent feelings for her in his mind as Kundavai Akka claimed? Now she decided she have to talk to him. At least before she leaves for Kodumbalur. With these thoughts in mind, she stood up.
"Kanne, where are you going?" Kundavai asked
"Akka, I'm just going to meet someone. I'll be right back" Vanathi hoped she was being discreet enough but Kundavai managed to see through it.
"No, you can meet anyone you want after the pooja. Now go, time is ticking "
"Yes Akka" Vanthiyathevan and Kundavai watched a disheartened Vanathi leaving the chamber.
"Ennavale, as much as I like your idea I'm afraid it is lacking action" Vanthiyathevan turned to his lover with a mischievous smile.
"I know my plan doesn't involve tree-climbing or window-jumping like you'd wish but it is effective. It's exactly like you said - they want to come closer. We are just giving them the necessary push" Kundavai said calmly.
---------------------------------------
Vanathi was hyper-focused on her aarti plate as she, along with Kundavai's other companions, made their way back from the temple. All through the Pooja, she prayed for happiness for all and a ray of clarity on her otherwise chaotic life. She was wondering when she would get the answers to all her questions (even Kundavai Akka was not with her, making some excuse after the Pooja that she didn't even pay attention to) .
"Vanathi, are you done playing hide and seek with Ponniyin Selvan?" One of Kundavai's companion started her teasing.
"Aren't you leaving for Kodumbalur anyway? Don't worry , I don't think Ponniyin Selvan would come to find you since all of us would be here to take care of him" another companion chimed in
They had reached the gardens when Vanathi decided to retaliate.
" What is all this talk? Keep your Ponniyin Selvan with you. He wasn't mine in the first place" She said, with her back to them, determined not to show them the sadness in her face.
"I beg to differ Devi"
All of them turned towards the source of the voice and found the object of their conversation standing in front of them.
"You are exceptionally good at hiding Ilavarasi" Arulmozhi said with a triumphant smile, " But now, since I have found you may I have a word with you"
He led her a safe distance away, so that her companions can only watch them and not eavesdrop on them.
" Akka told me I can find you here"
"I wanted to talk to you, Ponniyin Selvare about Poonguzhali..."
He sighed and said " I don't blame you for misunderstanding Vanathi. It is true that once I had a conversation with Akka about my then feelings for Poonguzhali but then I also asked you whether you would believe me if I said my feelings have changed over the months... Because that is what happened"
"What do you mean?"
"I was always under the impression that what you sought after was the throne and Poonguzhali always thought Amudhan's feelings will fade away someday. Then, Vanthiyathevan once asked if we have ever got to know you both as a person and to that we were answerless. So we decided to get to know you both better before making a final decision, just so we wouldn't feel guilty afterwards. Little did we knew fate had other plans"
Vanathi stared at him wondering about the direction of his narration. " In the few months that I got to know you I learned to appreciate your presence and adore your personality which made me confused because I was unfamiliar to this sensation"
"what sensation, Aiyya?"
"I understood you were insecure of the prospective marriage to me, and I wanted to erase that insecurity. I couldn't understand that feeling so I stayed in denial for weeks"
He looked at her then "I met with Poonguzhali again and she admitted she also started to develop an affection for Amudhan's sincerity. We still cared and respected each other but the feelings we began to develop for you two felt..stronger. Finally it was Vanthiyathevan who advised us to follow our heart and that's what we did"
"So you like me?" Vanathi asked. She was hoping this wouldn't be any of her usual dream. Her Yaanai Pagan was actually declaring what she wanted to hear all this time. "Better than that" Arulmozhi said, gazing lovingly at her " Nan unnai katalikkiren"
Saying this, he reached out and touched her hand. The sudden movement caused Vanathi to lose balance and the aarti plate to tumble down.
"Oh Lord, she has dropped the aarti plate. How inauspicious!" One of the onlookers commented.
"No, look closely I think the wick is still burning, so it's not inauspicious " another replied.
Vanathi felt Arulmozhi's hand circle her waist and pull her close to his chest. She gasped and put both her arms round his neck.
"Don't faint on me again Vanathi" He said almost breathlessly, "You made me so worried the last time"
"Ponniyin Selvare, what are you doing? Everyone is watching" Vanathi said, blushing but making no attempt in getting out his hold.
" Let them watch" Arulmozhi said with a grin, quickly glancing at the group of girls standing at a distance away, looking awe-struck.
"If you still wish to go to Kodumbalur, then let me come with you. Not as Ilavarase Arulmozhi Varman but as your varunkala kanavan. I respect your oath and proud of your determination" he continued and smiled wholeheartedly when Vanathi nodded. " I finally understood what Vanthiyathevan said . Sometimes love can be shown better through actions"
"What do you mean?" Vanathi cocked her head to the side and looked at him with confusion.
Arulmozhi simply gave her a smirk and tightened his arms around her, lifting her up and twirling her. Her squealing mixed with his laughter and the loud gasps from the onlookers. Well, not all onlookers. Kundavai and Vanthiyathevan watched the happy couple from the balcony.
"Who knew my Thambi was such a romantic?" Kundavai remarked with a short laugh
" Why Devi? Do you me to twirl you like that? " Vanthiyathevan asked with a wide grin and Kundavai smacked him in the arm.
"Noo" She said playfully "maybe another time?" She smiled sheepishly when Vanthiyathevan raised his eyebrows.

ho ho dear reader
Tumblr media
the entry for 'dun (pronounced dün, sometimes written duen)
Tumblr media
and the entry for dunpa
i mean, is that not accurate? our boy folken is longing and wishing hard as hell.
kawamori frequently referenced buddhist/hindu concepts in his works, such as in Macross, in Haru to Asura, the biopic of (my personal favourite) poet Kenji Miyazawa— who was a nichiren buddhist— and Earth Maiden Arjuna. and i mean. balgus ganesha. lol. (varga/vargas also has sanskrit roots.) both fanelia and zaibach have four generals, and this isn't the only series that references the concept of The Four Heavenly Ministers. in japan, pokemon's elite four are called the four heavenly kings. i need to brush up on it, but i do know freid's whole cultural aesthetic is pulling from the mughal empire and the pillars of ashoka. (key point: the lions.) the series just mashed up what would happen if east met west in ways it didn't in real life but still followed the path of the silk road.
so if not bön (which i suggested here and here, even imagining it could be a retcon) then i'm thinking too about how the chinese translation of van's name uses the character 梵, fán/faan, which is phonetic, but also means lushness, brahman, and is a symbol to denote anything related to buddhism, comprised of characters meaning forest. speaking of which, वन ban/van in hindi/nepali/mewari/etc. comes from the sanskrit ván or vana, and always means trees/forest... as well as a ray of light, and earnest desire :^) if van's name did mean forest that would be so sweet and fitting... lush fanelia... thinking of the scenes when van and folken are young in the forest in fanelia, which is also where the series ends, and van and hitomi have their gentle conversation in the forest after leaving asturia, and when they're together in the woods in adom. like his most honest self is peaceful, and made so in this place. green also symbolises change and is explicitly used for that purpose in both the series/film, so... perhaps! (other translations of similar words बान/بان means keeper/guardian, बन/بن means forest/to become.)
and to be clear, i don't think this is the only thing going on with his/any character's name. their names are all written in katakana vs kanji, to highlight them being names/that we're in a foreign place. hitomi's name is written with hiragana instead of kanji, but we know it's relevant that her name means eye. also... her eyes are green... symbolising action, change, renewal, healing :^)
