Collab I did long ago with @5minmikayuu , I sketched lined and gave color directions, and ygg colored (god I love their coloring)
Same AU as this
At some point I made like, a full on plot cuz I wanted to make a game out of this, and every now and then I still get the urge to, but it's way too complex. Who knows, maybe one day

(( Send “refuse to recover” for a starter where my muse is weak from either illness or injury, but refuses to stay in bed. || @kitxkatrp said: [ "refuse to recover" Yuu to Mika ]
Tumblr media
★ ━━━━━━ It was rare, nearly impossible for Vampires to contract Human illness, yet Mika was one of the few. His head hurt, and his body felt so starved for blood, like he'd go crazy because he was sick.
He could barely pull himself up without aid, but there was no way he'd stay in bed while the others worked to find a cure for him, even Yuuichirou was running around with the others, but checked on him from time to time.
Mika had somehow gotten up by his side, and was bent over against the bed. His legs felt so weak, but he took a step, then another, as the raven haired boy came into the room. The Vampire stumbled and collapsed to the floor, upset at his inability to do anything.

Mika and Yuu Body Language Analysis
Tumblr media
(A conversation between me and a friend where I analyzed the image/scene where the bite scene happens, and they played off it and added more. I also go by Ker so that's me lol)
Mikaela Hyakuya
Mika's right hand being on Yuu's thigh is a sign of vulnerability. This is because he's pressing himself closer to Yuu, willingly putting them into a more intimate position to essentially convey a "I am trusting you with myself" while also sort of a "I am willing myself to trust myself for you." Now, the fact it's a tight grip and not quite relaxed just shows that he struggles to completely let go of it. Which brings us to his left hand. Clutching at the shelf. This side of him shows his hesitance. While he's given in and allowed himself to become a full vampire, it's against his wishes/will. And while he's allowed himself to become vulnerable and trust Yuu, he can't quite bring himself to trust him. Not to mention this scene specifically has Mika facing away from us, almost saying "don't look at what I've become." Going onto his body, he's trying to accommodate Yuu as best as he can. He's not pinning Yuu down or pushing against him, even though he probably has the urge/instinct to. He's resisting the instinct and restraining himself to be as gentle as possible with him. The fact Mika's injured and bleeding as well shows how much he trusts Yuu with himself.
Chrono:
“This side of him shows his hesitance. While he's given in and allowed himself to become a full vampire, it's against his wishes/will.” THIS PART COMES FROM THE FACT THAT THE OTHER TIMES HES SHOWN TO BE HUNGRY, HE TAKES IT. FORCEFULLY GRABBING KRUL'S ARM AND PINNING THAT RANDOM KID DOWN, FOR EXAMPLE.
YUU BEING THE EXCEPTION, HIS FIRST BITE, HIS FIRST HUMAN TASTE (AND WHEN WE KNOW HOW MUCH MIKA LOVES THE TASTE OF YUU IN PARTICULAR) HE STILL MANAGES TO HOLD HIS MONSTROUS APPETITE BACK FOR HIS SAKE (YUU'S) BECAUSE THAT WINS OUT IN THE END. HIS PROTECTIVENESS OVER HIS PREDATORY DESIRE.
Yuuichirou Hyakuya:
Oh boy there's a lot here. Especially seeing the entire scene animated. But for the sake of word limits, I'll do this still frame. Number one: his hand in Mika's hair. He's actively, most likely softly, pushing Mika's head into his neck, thereby pressing Mika's mouth and fangs into his neck more, silently reassuring "it's okay, I'm alright with this." Why? Because as stubborn and naive Yuu may appear sometimes, that boy is awfully and extremely aware of the people around him. Yuu knows Mika hates this. He knows that Mika doesn't want this. But he also knows that he must do this to keep Mika alive. So, just like Mika, he's trying to be as accommodating and gentle as possible. The blood sucking probably feels weird and violating, in a way. Especially because it's against his own nature and instinct, which would tell him to fight Mika off. But just like Mika, Yuu is fighting against his own human instinct. Not to mention his training. And not to mention his hatred for vampires. Yuu's only reaction was the initial bite, the slight wince. (FUCK IT IM TALKING ABOUT THE ANIMATED SCENE.) Immediately after getting bit, Yuu gently lifts Mika and scoots them into a more comfortable and easy position. As he does so, he gently cradles Mika. It would be human nature to squirm and hiss when a vampire is drinking your blood, since blood is your life essence. But Yuu forced himself, forced his body and breathing, to relax. This way, he would make Mika more comfortable and less guilty, even if just a little. He also gently rubs Mika's hair, creating a soothing/caring stimulation, another reassurance. Moving on to Yuu's right hand on the floor, this is also a sign of vulnerability. He could have put it on Mika's shoulder to push him off later, but he's essentially saying "I know I am safe with you, I needn't worry about it." This is also proven with the way Yuu tilts his head back, and let Mika's hand push against his thigh. Adding on: the rubbing could also be seen as a grounding agent. To keep Mika calm and mentally with him.
Chrono:
“This way, he would make Mika more comfortable and less guilty, even if just a little. He also gently rubs Mika's hair, creating a soothing/caring stimulation, another reassurance.” they both take care of each other so wonderfully it's amazing. i worry that i don't depict yuu taking care of mika enough as much as mika does BUT IT DEF GOES BOTH WAYS thats one of the reasons i'm feral for them. they're mutually obsessive and while it CAN be unhealthy, it's ALSO in a healthy way in particular to the way they take care of the others emotional and physical needs since the other cannot take care of themselves. or want to due to their equal self-loathing. i'm getting a lil sidetracked but these soothing gestures he did in this scene, i saw the potential of them BOTH being the caretaker of the relationship. mika just takes his to a greater scale bc like i said, he's nurturing AND his unending loyalty makes him a ferocious protector.
Ker:
“they take care of the others emotional and physical needs since the other cannot take care of themselves.”
THIS. THIS IS THE KEY POINT. THIS PERFECTLY SUMS UP THE ENTIRETY OF YUU AND MIKA'S RELATIONSHIP.
While it could be seen as an unhealthy obsession, this is still good for them. Because they themselves do not believe themselves to be worthy/good enough for comfort. But they do not reject it if it comes from one another. That is the beauty of their relationship. That is the reason Mikaela has not let himself fully die yet. Because he knows. God he knows. That Yuu would never be able to truly live without him. Not anymore. Because was Yuu living before? Even during their separation, Yuu still lived for Mika. He wanted to kill vampires to avenge Mika. For Mika. Yuu didn't truly live, he existed to fulfill something. And Mika is smart, he noticed it. Mika had probably hoped Yuu could move on and live on without him. But deep down, he's keenly aware of the fact that won't happen. Why else do you think Mika asks Yuu to let go of him? Why else do you think Mika isn't the one to leave, if he is so adamant of Yuu forgetting and giving up on him? It's the same reason he's so aware of why Yuu won't do it. Mika feels the exact same way. That's why he asks Yuu to give him up. Because Mika can't give Yuu up either.
*slams table* AHHHHHH
Chrono:
I think mika wanted yuu to hate him. to give up on him, so he tries to emotionally close himself off in that scene and says things that may hurt him even if he would hate to see yuu cry, but he underestimated JUST how stubborn and just how much yuu was willing to cling onto him. that broke him more man.
“you have it just as bad as he does”
Tumblr media
Ker:
Absolutely. That's why he tried to hurt him.
They protect each other, no matter the cost. Whether it's themselves, or the world. This has been proven with actions and words from both sides.
Chrono: it's so crazy how they're so different from each other YET share so many qualities at the same time
Ker: the difference is where the desire comes from. For Mika is comes from selflessness, but for Yuu it derives from selfishness. They're opposites. And that's the point of them.
Chrono: like i love how they're both stubborn, how they had their angry phases, how they bring out the best and worst.... but in spite of it all, what really makes me happy, is to see them finally free themselves from the stresses in the life BECAUSE it's just them two. they're laughing again and say what these theorists will about demon mika simply copying a personality yuu simply wants to see... i think their banter and happiness with each other is genuine.
they're also teaching eachother to be selfish / selfless respectively. like mika telling yuu the whole world matters, not just the ones close to you... and yuu teaching mika its okay to chase his own happiness. there will be a way without comprising anyone's own happiness/life. it will simply be harder.

Shinoa's love for Yuuichirou
Alright, your favorite trashy Sanguu is back with another fucking masterpost. Let's hit it.
So, we know that Shinoa had some kind of thing for Yuuichirou in the beginning; more like a crush or perhaps an affection for him, seeing as he was her junior in the army. We all know about the situation where Yuu is about to turn into a seraph, and Shinoa stops him via. a hug or whatever. Blah blah blah, not the point. What the point is... Guren's retort to Shinoa's question. He asks Shinoa if she has fallen in love with Yuu, seeing as she was so concerned about what went on with the experiments. In turn, she becomes flustered. In my opinion, I see this as the budding of a crush... but I don't see anything Yuu has done for Shinoa that was enough to arise such feeling. Hence, why I'm so fucking confused.
Yuu deadass just went berserk because his friends were getting mauled by vampires and now she just has a thing for Yuu??? It's really confusing, but trust me... we'll get to the main focal point in just a second, just wanted to provide background on where her "feelings" started.
Let's start off with the Shikama fiasco. He possesses Shinoa, common knowledge for those who are caught up with ONS.
From what I've learned demons cannot eat any pure desires. What do I mean by this? I mean anything that's innocent and loving. Love is not enough to feed a demon. I find that any one of the 7 deadly sins, actually, seem to be a preference. [pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony and sloth] From what I've seen, they definitely feed off of lust and greed. Why is this relevant? Shinoa begins to blush furiously and admit to it. Because, Mahiru has instructed her to do so. (I am legit going off of memory right now) Shikama Doji sees clear desire, but he can't consume it which is a sucks to suck situation.
So, is Shinoa in love with Yuuichirou? For sure. Is it well written? HELL NO! It hasn't progressed in a good and meaningful way! Seriously, there should be a reason to love someone. A crush can be physical attraction, but I find that Shinoa doesn't care about his physical body. Is it reciprocated? At this point in time, definitely not. Like, that shit is a HARD no. He done ditched her for Mika, who he had been separated from for four years (among those years, spent with our fucking favorite Ichinose Scumren.) If he is able to make such a quick choice, over SHINOA... If he's able to choose saving MIKA over SAVING THE WORLD... definitely implies romantic feelings. Heavily implies it. We already know that Mika is dead set into Yuu, but with the GureMahi parallels... they may have a bad ending, or a tragic ending similar to that of GureMahi.
In conclusion: YuuNoa is one-sided from Shinoa's end, because Yuu seems to care about Mika and Mika alone; meaning that it's probably going to be a MikaYuu ending at this point in time. RIP......
SEND ME SOME ASKS, I LOVE RANTING
And as always, have a wonderful rest of your night.

I never watched ONS, but I always see you grieving what became of it, so I am interested. Can you tell me what first got you into it, what is it about and why you fell out of it? I don't mind any spoilers because I don't intend to watch, I am just madly curious ^^
[takes a long, deep breath] oh boy where do i even start with this one.
Owari no Seraph is a textbook example of a series with amazing characters and great concepts that then gets completely dicked over by the author's own incompetence with writing. Pair that with blatant queerbait and the guy realizing halfway through that he's lost interest in his own main characters and vastly prefers his mary sue self-insert (Guren) instead, and you've got a recipe for a disaster. Which fucking sucks, because I cannot overstate the fact that the series starts off really strong with really good character and plot concepts, before devolving into an absolute goddamn disaster. Let me try to recount it for you, but keep in mind that it may be inaccurate because I dropped the series in like, 2018 so it's been a Hot Minute(tm)
Alright angry rant incoming. Putting this under a readmore bc it gets long
Basically, the story takes place after a cataclysmic apocalyptic event occurs where almost anyone over the age of 13 drops dead, leaving only a scattered handful of people and a whole fuckload of children behind to survive. After this mysterious event occurs, the vampires that inhabited the world came out of the shadows to round up the survivors and turn them into human livestock to ensure their own survival.
The protagonist of the story is a young orphan boy called Yuuichirou, who- alongside deuteragonist Mikaela and the rest of the orphans in Hyakuya orphanage- are captured and turned into vampire livestock, which the hotblooded and angry young Yuu hates, leading him to swear that he's going to become a vampire hunter and kill them all as revenge. Mika- who at the time was a sort of parental figure to the rest of the younger children and always trying to be sweet to Yuu, who rejected his affections bc both boys were severely abused and traumatized as children- finds a map to escape the underground vampire city that they're trapped in after essentially selling his body to a vampire noble, Ferid. But as it turns out, Ferid was fully aware of their plan to escape, so when them + the rest of the orphans attempt to escape to the outside world, he shows up right before the tunnel to the exit and slaughters them all, leaving Yuu as the only survivor. Yuu runs out, sobbing, and runs facefirst into Guren (the ACTUAL protagonist, apparently, even though he sucks), and a squadron of adult vampire hunters who ~mysteriously~ escaped the apocalypse. As it turns out, these vampire hunters have formed soul-contracts with demons in order to manifest the cursed weaponry required to true-kill a vampire.
(OH AND THERE'S MASSIVE FUCKING MONSTERS THAT MANIFESTED AFTER EVERYONE GOT KILLED RUNNING AROUND RIGHT. THE PEOPLE WITH THE CURSED WEAPONRY HUNT THEM TOO. FORGOT ABOUT THAT ONE BECAUSE THEY BECAME BASICALLY IRRELEVANT LATER. YES IM SALTY ABOUT THAT AS WELL)
That's episode one. The rest of the anime series is basically centered around Yuu trying to become a vampire slayer after a 3-year timeskip, him forming a bond with a demon to get his own cursed weapon, and then getting wrangled into a squad with a bunch of other 16-year-olds to go running around learning how to be a team and murder stuff. This works as well as you might expect, because Yuu is an edgy lone wolf who spends his days crying himself to sleep at night because he misses Mika and is horrifically traumatized by what happened. Then, ding ding ding! As it turns out, Mika WASN'T killed in the attack, but got turned by the vampire queen herself, and spent the three years he was turned trying to find Yuu again so that they could run away together and escape the whole disaster. Except Mika refuses to drink human blood, the catalyst to complete his transformation, and so he's on a timer, too- he's been drinking the blood of his progenitor, but it's been less and less effective at satiating him. And this is a fuckin' problem, because as it turns out, vampires turn into demons when they die. So Mika is basically in full suicide mode trying to save Yuu, then when Yuu realizes that Mika is alive and a vampire he does a 180 on how he thinks about them and goes into full 'no, I'm going to save YOU' mode about Mika, and so on and so on.
Anyways the true hinging point of the series and the greatest strength is centered around Mika and Yuu's love for each other, because when I say these boys were in-love destined-soulmates, I fucking MEAN it. Like, it's straight-up canon that Mika is in love with Yuu, and Yuu is pretty much outright in love with Mika in return. The problem, however, is that this is a shounen manga, so it's heavily heavily implied that Yuu is actually going to end up with Shinoa (a female character who is actually REALLY FUCKING GOOD SO IT REALLY SUCKS SHE GETS SHAFTED SO HARD LATER), despite him talking to her like. twice. And her only ever sending him longing glances and blushes. And then the aforementioned thing of the author getting more interested in Guren than Mika and Yuu comes into play and that's when I dropped it because Guren is the MOST mary-sue a character can get in terms of him being a sheer boring asshole who fucked the whole world up and has zero redeeming qualities and yet everyone in-story (but mika) loves him and follows him for no fuckin' reason.
As for the rest of the plot- It's later shown that the reason why this event occurred was because of a deal struck with a trapped seraphim, and that Guren was the one who caused the whole fucking thing to happen in the first place because he was sad that his squad died (or something like that) so he sacrificed the entire rest of the world to save like, 5 people that get zero character development. There's a really heavy message about found family through the series that felt really great and poignant in the beginning when it was Mika trying to convince Yuu that he was a family group with the other orphans after their own parents both tried to kill them, but then gets twisted later on to be meaningless because Yuu eventually just starts calling fucking EVERYONE family, and Guren uses it as a means of manipulating him. I dropped the manga after this started to happen because the focus turned almost entirely to Guren and everyone else's characterization went out the fucking window to simply 'trust guren he knows what he's doing' minus Mika, who has come to hate all humans left for Very Good Fucking Reasons. Because, as it turns out, the demon-bound vampire-slaying society have the only adults left who survived because THEY were the ones who trapped the seraphim in the first place, and THEY were running experiments on people with certain genetics/affinities to these seraphs to try to turn them into seraphs and harness their near-godly powers. Yuu and Mika and the rest of the kids in the Hyakuya orphanage, as it turns out, were very strong candidates for this type of experimentation, and the reason why Yuu got snatched up by the humans and Mika got turned by the vampires was because they're the human equivalent of nukes in the human-vampire war. Also, the progenitors of all the vampires was a fallen angel and vampires turn into demons when killed because of it. Which is actually really cool.
So it really fucking sucks that the author started neglecting all the other characters to obsess over his beloved Guren and to excuse all of his shitty selfish actions right when he got to the part explaining the whole seraph project thing. And like, the most frustrating part is that Guren as a complex antagonist works really really well, but the author wants nothing more than for him to be the sad, dark, brooding protagonist everyone loves, so that's the treatment he gives him. It's like he decided midway through the story that he's actually really fucking tired of Mika, meh on Yuu, but loves Guren and wanted him to be protag all along, so that's the point where the story goes down the drain. Luckily, this is after season two of the anime ends, and I haven't heard anything about a potential season 3.
That was only half of my problems though- it also had like, the worst fandom I've ever been in by far, and that's saying something because I was in some pretty fucking bad fandoms in my life. It was just full of the most needlessly hostile shit, with my main issue with it being the fact that it was full of ship wars...over the same damn ship. That being Mikayuu. Or Yuumika. Because, as it turns out, fucking NOBODY seemed to be able to get either Yuu or Mika in-character, they had to slap seme/uke stereotypes onto them and the whole war was raged over whether or not someone was mischaracterizing them because Mika was actually the top, not the bottom, or visa versa (I cannot drive home enough that both sides horrifically mischaracterized them either way. And also that Yuu and Mika were 16- not too young to fuck, but certainly too young to know what the fuck they were doing). There were death threats sent and harassment campaigns over this. You were branded as either being on one side or the other and nobody would accept the fact that both views were wrong. And that's even if you were a shipper in the first place- you also had the Yuu/Shinoa shippers who were overwhelmingly homophobic straight men who thought people were stupid illiterate yaoi fangirls for thinking Mika and Yuu were in love (tbf, most of them were weird yaoi fangirls who were simply another flavor of homophobic), or there were the people who thought that Mika and Yuu were adopted siblings because they took the last name of the orphanage they were in (hyakuya) to abandon their abusive parents/called each other 'family' and that EVERYONE who shipped them was an incest apologist (got hit with this one myself). And even if you weren't interested in shipping either, you weren't safe- I've made some of my best friends in that fandom, despite everything, and one of them didn't ship Yuu and Mika, opting for a QPP/adoptive siblings approach. And they got the MOST rancid shit thrown at them for it by the shippers, despite them not caring that other people shipped them. AND there were Mika haters/lovers who thought he was a 'yandere' for being ''''obsessed'''' with Yuu and running off with him despite the fact that it was shown over and over that Mika was severely traumatized by losing everyone he loved and that Yuu was being psychologically manipulated by the army to be a complacent experiment. Granted, this was all my experience in the 2016-2018 fandom cycle, but still. Nasty nasty nasty.
(oh and also Ferid, aka the guy who murdered everyone in the orphanage but Yuu and -partially- Mika, was heavily implied to be vampirically raping Mika bc he was straight-up a pedophile who only drank blood from people under 16 and getting your blood sucked was apparently orgasmically pleasurable/a sex metaphor, was treated as the 'fabulous gay uncle and best mika/yuu shipper supporter' by most of the fandom because after Mika was turned, he continued to emotionally and psychologically abuse him via his love for Yuu. Nasty!)
((Oh and yes, when Yuu finally gets Mika to bite him and drink his blood, that was used as 'proof' that Mika tops and is actually a smirking hardcore seme dom for blushy subby Yuu. Despite the fact that Mika was dying, sobbing hysterically and yelling at Yuu for making him survive as something he despised, and Yuu was stubbornly yelling back about how he'd love him and accept him no matter what and how he'd find a way to save him and thrusting a bleeding arm in his face to try to force him to drink. Nuance and appreciation for characterization was lost on this fandom.))
Anyways. It really really sucks, because the anime is actually very good. I genuinely would reccomend watching it- the animation is amazing and beautiful, the soundtrack gives you chills, and it covers the story right up until the next story beat and it starts swerving down the gutter, so you can feasibly watch it and then stop right there, mentally tallying it as an open/ambiguous ending. But I wouldn't suggest anything other than that, because ohhhhh boy it. it just isn't worth it. believe me. Everything else is worth it for Yuu and Mika and the Shinoa Squad, but that's where it ends
(ofc i could be wrong and the whole thing is looking up by now but i have zero faith thats the case.)

For the mikayuu=selfcest?? questions, I don't think people need to worry
First of all, we still don't know what happened to them after this chapter. Second of all, the mika and yuu we know are still seperate people with seperate bodies and minds. Even if yuuichirou is actually angel Mikaela, we still don't know who tf vampire Mika is?? Seriously does he not have any soul, or is he actually the eyeball yuu? Anyway I like the idea of mikayuu being fused in one way or another. And don't forget, they are Two Souls Towards the Truth
I hope mikayuu fans won't come to hate the manga story just because something didn't go their way ONCE (srsly u can hate the manga for any other thing but this? Nah)

Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign (Manga) - written by Takaya Kagami, illustrated by Yamato Yamamoto, storyboarded by Daisuke Furuya (7.5/10)
Tumblr media
Synopsis
Genres: Dark fantasy, post apocalyptic, action
After the passing of his abusive parents, eight-year-old Yuuichirou is taken in by the Hyakuya orphanage. Soon after, a pandemic sweeps the world, resulting in the deaths of everybody over the age of 13. To make things worse, vampires swarm in and turn the children of the Hyakuya orphanage into livestock.
Eight years later, Yuu aspires to kill the vampires that hold them hostage and to free his family of orphans. His fellow orphan, Mikaela Hyakuya, comes up with an escape plan. This plan goes horribly wrong, as they are intercepted by vampire noble Ferid Bathory who proceeds to massacre them all. Yuu is the only one to escape, and comes into contact with the Moon Demon Company. They offer him the opportunity to join their ranks and exterminate vampires. Fueled by the desire for revenge, he accepts.
Tumblr media
Plot
In my opinion, this series is a unique take on the typical vampire story. At first glance it might seem to be a bit generic, even with its post-apocalyptic twist. However, as the story progresses, you can see that everything is a lot, and I mean a LOT more complex than it may appear at first. What starts off as a revenge story turns into a war story with constantly shifting alliances and different motivations. Suddenly there’s not just vampires but demons, angels, and… dinosaurs? This is both a positive and a negative thing. Positive because learning about the mysteries of the world and character motivations is very interesting and keeps me reading. Negative because there is so much that sometimes I get a bit confused on what’s happening. I think it’s also important to note that this series also has three light novels, Guren Ichinose: Catastrophe at Sixteen, The Story of Vampire Mikaela, and Guren Ichinose: Resurrection at Nineteen. All of these novels are canon and explore very important information that is not shown very much in the manga. These series are all made to be able to be read without reading the others, but with how important they are to the story, sometimes plot points in the light novels appear in this manga without explaining much on what they mean. For example, during one fight scene in the later chapters, a character made an appearance during a clutch moment and I had no idea who they were. The way the scene was framed made me feel as if I was supposed to, so I googled it and found out that this character was more prevalent in the light novels. There aren’t too many movements like this, fortunately.
Overall, the plot is pretty good. I particularly enjoy how it explores the question of, “why is life worth living, even during the apocalypse?” I’m also fond of the biblical themes.
Tumblr media
Characters
There are a ton of characters in this manga. In fact, there are so many that I feel like they forget about some of them (Where’d your revenge arc go, Yoichi? Where’d you disappear to, Narumi?) For that purpose, I am only going to go over who I deem the four most important to the story.
Starting off, we have Yuuichirou Hyakuya. He starts off as moody and rebellious, thinking of nothing about revenge for his orphan family. As he makes friends, his kind hearted nature shines through, yet he’s still hot blooded and impulsive. Due to the awful abuse and trauma he suffered as a kid, he views himself very negatively and lives with the sole purpose of caring for who he declares his family (which is pretty much anyone who is even remotely kind to him). Personally, I love Yuu a lot. He’s actually one of my favorite characters ever. He strives to save those he loves despite whether it’s feasibly possible to do so, a mindset that might be viewed as stupid by most. It’s the apocalypse after all. Most of humanity is dead. Vampires roam the street. There isn’t one person left on earth who hasn’t lost someone dear to them. In times like these, you have to do everything you can to survive, no matter how underhanded. Although, what’s the point of surviving if theres nothing to live for? If there’s nobody to love and be loved by? That’s why Yuu is willing to risk himself to save his family, a mindset that goes against the concept of an apocalypse. That’s why I think he’s a great protagonist for this type of series. On a side note, the vampires in this series are a direct contradiction to this way of thinking. They live forever and cannot die, most feel little to no emotion, and they typically view themselves as superior to humans. They live because they can’t die, but have no actual reason to live. I know this part on vampires isn’t really related to Yuu, but I wanted to take this opportunity to gush on how much I like how vampires are written as a species in this manga.
Tumblr media
Moving on, Mikaela Hyakuya is the secondary protagonist of this manga. He’s Yuu’s fellow orphan who was supposedly slaughtered in the beginning of the story. He is resurrected as a vampire by the vampire queen herself, and aims to rescue Yuu from the clutches of the Moon Demon Company.
Tumblr media
As a child, he is kind and optimistic, acting as a big brother to the other children in the orphanage. After the slaughter of the orphan children and his transformation into a vampire, he becomes apathetic and self-loathing, blaming himself for the death of the orphan family. He grows to despise both humans and vampires, only continuing to live for the sake of Yuu.
Like Yuu, Mika is also one of my favorite characters ever. He’s calm, intelligent, and cares for Yuu above all else. He’s the perfect compliment for the rash and self-sacrificing Yuu.

Next up, Shinoa Hiragi is the leader of the squad that Yuuichiro joins once he formerly joins the Moon Demon Company. While outwardly playful, she keeps her walls up at all times and prevents herself from feeling too many emotions. She spent her life looking after herself and herself only, as she couldn’t afford to do otherwise. This is why she ends up falling in love with Yuu, as his willingness to take care of his loved ones and to live freely is something that is the direct opposite to how she’s lived. While I don’t like the idea of Yuu and Shinoa together and don’t think it will happen either, her affection for Yuu makes a lot of sense for her character. However, I do believe that this series as a whole has a problem with defining many of their female characters by their romantic interest in a male one. I understand that the core theme of this series is love, but I feel like there should be more variation in the types of love that motivate them like their male characters do.
Tumblr media
Lastly, Guren Ichinose is a lieutenant in the Moon Demon Company and the man who took in Yuu when he escaped the vampires. He is also the protagonist of two of the light novels. He’s very strong and goal oriented, but holds a deep care for his friends and strong guilt regarding his past. Yuu is very loyal to him, as Guren was the one who gave him a reason to keep going after the orphan children were slaughtered. I haven’t read the light novels, so I don’t know his character as well as I could, but I do like him based on what I’ve seen in this manga.

Art
I really like the art! However, it can be hard to follow what’s going on during a fight scene. I do feel as if that’s a common problem that I face when reading any fight scene from any manga, so maybe that’s just a personal problem. I would also like to note that the art style has changed over the course of its runtime. I’ve seen a lot of complaints about the new art style, and I definitely also prefer the old one. I don’t think it’s as horrible as some people are making it out to be, but sometimes it does look a bit off. I remember people freaking out over this panel of Guren in particular.
Tumblr media
Overall thoughts
I have been reading this manga for about six or seven years now. I have an attachment to it that I can only describe as Stockholm syndrome, and I admit that the score I gave it is inflated by personal attachment. It has ruined my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Also, I would like to mention that I have only read up until volume 28 as that is the latest physical release in English. I vaguely know some of what happens after that but not in much detail. I’d recommend giving it a shot if you like post-apocalyptic settings and overly homoerotic shounen male friendships.

If I’m dead dead dead honest! I never really cared about Angel Mikaela until this very moment. He’s so kept in the dark and innocent that it’s practically a crime to have killed him (ironic how it’s not) I don’t hate either him or Paimon.

@vampiremikaela liked for a starter!
Yoichi knew how important it was to Yuuichirou that he was able to reunite with his only remaining family who was someone they considered to be their ally now. Despite him being a vampire, they all had the same goal after the small group was able to escape because of the events that happened. Events that lead them to have to deal with wandering around these streets without the help of the people who they once trusted. It was obvious that something was going on, but it wasn’t going to be that easy to get the answers that they wanted since there were a lot of unanswered questions. Mika was Yu’s friend, he was a beloved family member who supposedly had been killed that night. He somehow survived though while Yoichi wouldn’t ask questions since there was a chance it was something Mikaela didn’t want to recall.
It had to be a painful memory for the both of them. While he was familiar with loss since his sister had been taken away from him by a vampire named Lacus. Yoichi didn’t have much to go by when it came to the unknown vampire besides his voice and the name that was given. He wants nothing more, but to take revenge against the one who took his sister away from him.
Mika wasn’t him though, he was someone who could be trusted despite the wariness that he did have. It was understandable since they were strangers, but Yoichi didn’t want him to feel like he was unwelcomed while there had to be something he could do. Something that would help him gain their trust even if it was going to be slow, but they wouldn’t hesitate to protect him. He was Yu’s family which was enough for them, they all wanted the same thing. They wanted to protect the ones who were important to them which included Mika now because of the bond that he had with Yuuichirou.
The brunette didn’t know if the other was willing, but he was going to try since Mika had volunteered to take the first watch. Approaching him though, he fiddled with a random button that stuck to his uniform “Is it okay for me to join you? It’s better to have an extra person watching sometimes.”

FIC 8
Summary:  “At 8 in the morning, Mikaela was the first to leave the apartment.  The light was much clearer at that hour, so Yuichiro allowed himself a peek into the living room.  He started looking around the walls, being attracted by the picture frames that, for some reason, were turned around; he approached one of them and held it in his hands. In front of his eyes, there was nothing more and nothing less than a photograph of him, one in which he apparently held a cheerful expression next to Mikaela;  they were both sitting on the grass somewhere that he cannot determine, but what caught his attention the most in the photograph was that between their intertwined hands, they both wear a pair of matching rings on their ring finger.
The emotions evoked were nameless: surprise?, nostalgia?, confusion?, surprise? People had already warned him about the relationship he used to have with Mikaela, but he didn’t expect that seeing a photograph would shake his feelings so much.  He wanted to cry of sheer frustration at that moment, but he stopped himself.  After all, there was no use in thinking about what it was.”
[Or, Mikayuu have been victims of amnesia shortly before their wedding. Maybe it was an opportunity to reconsider their choices?]

(AKA yuu can turn into a cat but his attempts to steal from mika and run away are thwarted by circumstances time and time again)

FIC 10

FIC 11
Summary: Yuuichirou Amane is a powerful necromancer, and he wishes more than anything that he was not. He keeps his powers a secret from the Hyakuya Church - the religious organization that took him in after an accident that killed his parents - and from his best friend Mikaela, another orphan taken in by the Church. Seven years after coming to the Hyakuya Church, Yuuichirou is sent on a mission with Mikaela, but their small caravan is attacked en route by vampires, and Mikaela is killed in combat. Witnessing this, Yuuichirou has a necromantic meltdown that kills the remaining vampires and priests in the caravan…and revives Mikaela as a vampire. The two are taken in by Guren Ichinose, a necromancer who used to serve the Yuuichirou’s family as his tutor, who has been in hiding with his partner, Shinya, since the fire incident. A necromancer creating a vampire is an unprecedented occurrence, and so the two are tasked with researching connections between vampires and necromancers and experimenting together to test the rules of this strange new magic.
Being stuck together in an elaborate Gothic magic library-turned-laboratory brings up some issues between the two that can no longer be avoided, and the fallout leads to some exciting sensual discoveries.

★ ━━━━━━ Mika shivered, he didn't need to breathe; but his chest heaved anyway as he drew knees to his chest and clasped arms around them. He was horrible, disgusting...a monster. Mika didn't need to be around Humans, let alone Yuu-chan, who wasn't Human but still...
The taste of blood in his mouth made Mika sob a little more, but his gums were still swollen, fangs aching even though he had fed; his body wanted more. His eyes were tired, and they were threatening to close on him.
Tumblr media
His neck shifted to look at Yuuichirou, eyes flickering to his bloody, but healed arm, yes he knew the Daemon within Yuu's cursed gear did that, but seeing the arm healed only made his body want to grab it again, the need to feed again so strong.
"Yuu-chan, please..." He groaned, feeling his mouth salivate as he fought to stay against the wall. "Stay over there. I can't... I can't control myself."
( @preciousangelyu )
-Yu was lying on his back in the dark. He knew this place. It was where he normally spoke to Asuramaru. He felt heavy as he laid there. He glanced around, to find his demon was watching him, looking amused. Yu knew what was coming before he even got to his feet, but he didn't say anything. He just looked at the demon, balancing on the hilt of the sword.
You got guts. He could have killed you.
-"He wouldn't. I told him everything would be fine."
-The other smiled, just a little. You know Yu, there will come a day where I can't save you.
-Yu laughed hand behind his head. "It was just a little blood."
-Asuramaru hopped down and came closer. Don't think you can keep doing this thanks to me. Watch yourself. Now...wake up.
Tumblr media
-Slowly the world came back into focus. Yu didn't feel anything, all though he was covered in blood on his arm. Glancing around he noticed that he was alone, or so it seemed. Yet he could hear something....crying?
-How long was he out?
-Yu sat up slowly and looked at his arm, it was healed. His clothing was the only hint that something had happened. Finally he saw who was crying. He wasn't alone, Mika was still there. "Mika?" he asked as he got to his knees. "Are you okay now Mika?" he asked with concern.
