Because I can't help myself have some vampire Slayer Lando and Watcher Sebastian:

"I'm....I'm going to die?"

Sebastian felt his heart plummet as he turned around to look at Lando. The teenager was staring at him with wide eyes and there was nothing but hurt and betrayal on his face.

"Lando....", Sebastian started but he had to stop because what could he say to make this better? How could any of them possibly make any of this better as Lando looked smaller than Sebastian had ever seen him.

Lando, while being slightly short and lithe, was never small. He filled rooms with his laughter and his wit. He had the sharpest tongue, and Sebastian had often been on the receiving end of his sarcasm. Lando was full of life and fight despite not wanting to be the Slayer, but he wore his destiny like armour and now, now he just looked broken.

Sebastian wanted to bundle him into his arms even though it wasn't his place. He was the Watcher. He wasn't meant to have grown attached to his charge. He was just meant to have wielded him like the weapon the council thought Lando was, and helpe him defeat evil to save humanity.

Yet how could he let him die when Sebastian viewed the teenager as a sort of son after spending a year protecting him and helping him as best as he could?

"It's the prophecy," Sebastian admitted softly because he didn't know what else to say, "The Slayer will face The Master and die at his hands. The Hellmouth will open, and the apocalypse will come"

Lando stared at him for a moment before he started to laugh hysterically. His eyes were wet with tears that never fell as he backed away when Sebastian stepped forward.

"I quit"

"Lando, you can't -"

"I am EIGHTTEEN, Sebastian", Lando threw his arms out as the tears finally fell, "I...I should be worried about college applications and crushes. I should be playing video games with my friends, and...and doing normal fucking things. I should be allowed to live"

"Lando, we can-", Sebastian started, trying to soothe him as tears formed in his own eyes and his heart began to break.

"I don't want to die, Sebastian", Lando whispered as he shook his head, "I'm eighteen, and I don't want to die so find someone else. Anyone else. I don't care about being the Slayer, I don't. I want to live"

Sebastian finally managed to approach him as Lando finally broke. He had seen Lando fight vampires, demons, possessed friends, enemies that they had no right surviving, but this had broken him as he managed to pull Lando into a hug.

He was so small as he struggled against him for a moment before all the fight seemed to leave him and he just cried.

"I deserve to live"

Sebastian cast his eyes up to the ceiling to blink away his own tears as he thought of losing Lando, of having to explain to Jenson that his son was never coming home and would never get to grow up.

This moment wasn't about him. It wasn't about the grief and loss he already felt as he let Lando cry it out because they both knew that at the end of the day, Lando wouldn't fight this propechy because that meant leaving his friends to die.

"You deserve to live", Sebastian agreed, "I am so sorry Lando"

A portion of the fleet is grounded by [freak space event] and, on the planet where they are sheltering, it is Mischief Night, where children dress as fearsome creatures but, if bribed with treats, will not commit acts of vandalism. If you're Han Solo, how do you protect your ship?

Instead of sex with a ghost... long distance sex with a Force-sensitive partner!

Leia is turned into a vampire (or a similar blood-sucking creature in the GFFA) but she doesn't want to kill people, so Han offers to let her feed on him a little every day... and it turns out that's kind of hot.

Late-night Halloween smut! Have Han and Leia just put the kids to bed, or have they partied all night with Luke, Lando, and Chewie before finding themselves alone? How sexy are their costumes, and does it turn the other one on? Which one of them tries to make the sex, ah, seasonal in spirit- including with spooky dirty talk or thematic roleplays!- and do they succeed in getting the other in the mood, or does it devolve into laughter

Not really much to say about this one. I love Villaneve and Eve and Villanelle. I am very critical about the show as a whole though because Sally Woodward Gentle is a homophobic hack. Also, don’t follow if you’re one of those Villanelle stans that shits on Eve. We love both in this house.

Notes: I’m a firm believer that Azula is a lesbian. So while I respect people’s rights to headcanon her differently, I probably won’t follow if you post a lot of shippy stuff of her with men. Not a huge fan of Legend of Korra but I respect Korra as a character.

Notes: I don’t hate Caitvi but I also don’t really care about it either (sorry 😞). To me, the tragic sisterhood of Jinx and Vi is by far the most compelling dynamic on the show and it isn’t even a contest. I have complicated feelings about Silco and his relationship with Jinx. But DNI if you ship them romantically.

The Hunger Games:

Notes: I enjoy both the Snowjanus and Snowbaird dynamics but don’t really know if I ship them in the typical sense. And it must always come with the backing that Coryo was an abhorrent person that wasn’t truly capable of loving either of them in the right way. But I do believe they both haunt him. I very much dislike Mockingjay as a book and believe THG deserved a better finale. Also DNI if you support the way Suzanne Collins demonized Gale and the rebellion in the end.

Star Wars:

Continuation of my previous Slayer Lando:

"Lando!"

Daniel collapsed to his knees beside Lando’s body because that's what it was now. It was a body. A body face down in water and not moving. A body that had belonged to the man that Daniel convinced himself every day that he didn't love.

George fell to his knees beside him. His hands shaking, stakes scattering to the ground as he dropped them to reach for Lando. His body was limp when George rolled him over, and Lando’s eyes were open and un-seeing.

"No, no, no, no. Lando come on", George begged as he shook the smaller body. His hands patted pale cheeks, and Daniel wanted to let go of the demon inside of him to tear apart the entire world for letting it end like this, "You can't be dead. Lando, come on. You can't be gone. Just....just take a breath, please"

This was why Daniel had tried to stay away from the Slayer. He knew that one day Lando would enter a fight he couldn't come back from. He knew that one day maybe Lando would kill him for being the very thing he was destined to hunt.

Lando was always destined to die, and Daniel to live in a world where Lando would be come a memory as the years dragged on.

He could only watch as George desperately started CPR. Tears streaming down his face as he kept going, kept trying to bring Lando back to them despite the fact that the apocalypse was starting as the world shook a little around them.

"George...."

"No, no you shut up", George all but growled despite being human, "You shut up. You...you let him think you didn't care when we all know you do, and you could have been here. You could have stopped this"

Daniel swallowed softly because he knew George was angry. He had every right to be. If Daniel had been here maybe he would have been able to give his life for Lando’s.

He was going to say something when he heard it. A faint little humming almost like a birds wings flapping. A faint heart beat that had him scrambling to tilt Lando’s head back, and ignore George's protests before he sealed his mouth over Lando's, breathing air into his lungs as George paused before he started again.

"I can hear it", Daniel choked, grinning manically as George laughed, "Don't stop"

"Wasn't going to", George responded, and within moments, Lando was struggling under their hands and coughing up water that had clogged his lungs as he blinked.

His hands reached out for them both as he tried to sit up as he shook. His body probably ached, and hurt judging by the bruises on his skin and the destruction around him but his grip was still strong as he coughed and took in ragged breaths as they laughed in disbelief.

After a moment, Lando pulled back from them, looking battered and bruised but determined as he gave them a ghost of smirk.

"Did I miss anything?"

Biography

Roya Kazemi

Roya was born on the road. Both of her parents were professional scammers, spending their lives travelling. They made their own rules, living outside of the law and never remaining in one place long enough to get caught. Their specialty was small towns, the kind of places the Emperor and those who serve him cared so little for that they didn’t even bother investigating their crimes. Their only child, Roya, was born on the backseat of their car, pulled over on the side of the road. They were back on their way within the hour, heading towards their next target. 

For as long as she can remember, Roya has been adored. Her parents showered her with praise, constantly telling her how pretty she was, how clever she was, and granted her every request. Despite spending most of her childhood on the road, she never wanted for anything, and knew everything she owned was stolen. Her parents passed their trade on to her, positioning it like a game, and the thrill of taking what was not hers is a feeling as familiar as an old friend to Roya. 

As she grew under her parents tutelage, Roya grew greedy and entitled. She believed that if she could get away with taking something, she deserved to have it. However, petty theft and small-scale operations ceased to satisfy her like they used to. By the time she was in her late teens, newly an adult and unfamiliar with any other life but the one her family had shown her, she was already looking to something bigger and better. The only trouble was, building something bigger was hard to do when you had to start from scratch every few weeks. Just before her twentieth birthday, Roya bid goodbye to her parents, and set off for the first time on her own.

Mystic Roya

Her first few months in the city weren’t easy. She had never even seen an attempt at putting roots down, and had no clue how to do it for herself. That changed when her mark appeared. Every resourceful, Roya had always had a lucky streak. With her mark, her life-long bout of good fortune made all the more sense. Suddenly, the path ahead was clear. 

It was the biggest con of her life, setting up as “genuine” psychic. She assumed there would be a learning curve, a certain art to reading people that she would learn over time. For the most part, people were far less complicated than they liked to believe themselves to be. All it took was a few vague statements from Roya, blanket “predicitions” that could have applied to anybody. It wouldn’t have been enough on it’s own, but when combined with her talismans, created with her powers and sold to desperate believers, it was hard to deny the power of Mystic Roya. When she promised good luck, she delivered. When she promised love, it was found. She laughs about it behind closed doors, delighting in the games she plays with those who reach out to her for spiritual guidance, but at least she’s laughing all the way to the bank.

Casino Kaz

She loves what she does- really, she does, but Roya has never been very good at the monotonous life. Being in one place for so long is stifling enough, without succumbing to something as mundane as regularity. Roya was naturally restless to begin with, but the storm in which she grew up in only exaggerated this trait. The psychic fraud was fun, and she has no intention of giving it up, but the need for something more developed. Having spent her life chasing thrills, she’s never done well when the thrills disappear. 

Having done so well with her first cultivated persona, it made sense to add another deception to her bow. Mystic Roya was one aspect of who she was, not-quite her, but with enough of her in it to come naturally. The second side of the coin was easier still to slip into. Kaz. Unlike Mystic Roya, there was nothing spiritual about Kaz. They gambled, and cheated, and conned and lied, and loved every minute of it. 

The thrill has always faded quickly, but for Kaz, every day is different, every game is different. It’s enough to keep the excitement alive, and something about her double life keeps her even more exhilarated. Though she still chases excitement where she finds it, for the most part, she’s totally content, happy amassing her fortune and revelling in her success. 

Headcanons

Her mark, the Grifter Cricket, appeared on her lower back, to the left of her tailbone (think a typical tr*mp stamp). She doesn’t know how long it sat there before she noticed it. For her, the transition from human to Night Monster was slow and seamless, reflecting the more subtle nature of her powers. It would be very easy for Kaz to lay low, but her own ego forbids it. She’s always been the flashy type, and never one for laying low when she could be taking center stage. A reckless risk-taker, she never fully thinks of the consequences of her actions. She has luck on her side, though, and for her, that’s all the protection she needs. 

Like most things in her life, Kaz doesn’t take her status as a Night Monster too seriously. She knows the danger, but she simply doesn’t believe anything could happen to her. She knows that everything she has is a direct result of her powers, and isn’t shy about using them to get herself out of almost any situation. Though she doesn’t necessarily shout about her abilities (she’s dumb but she’s not stupid), she enjoys using them and is fairly proud of what she is, even if she can’t express that in the ways she wants to. 

Kaz had a good relationship with both of her parents, but never really stayed in one place long enough growing up to form bonds with anybody out of the family unit of three. Though she was loved, being an only child with no opportunity for friends was a lonely experience for a little girl. She more than makes up for it now, though. Kaz loves making friends, but isn’t the best at keeping them. She’s very much the type of person you’d have a blast with on the odd night out, but keeping up with her over long periods of time can be quite tiresome. For those who can, however, she’s quick to embrace them as found family and accept them as one of her own. 

Kaz has a taste for fine things, and wants nothing less than to surround herself with the best of everything. With the money she has gained, she bought a fancy apartment in the heart of the city. It’s not quite Empire Gardens, but the pace of life there suits her better, anyway. Though she paid for the apartment, she didn’t purchase anything in it. It came fully furnished, anyway, courtesy of the previous owner, and all of Kaz’s own additions have been stolen or swindled. 

Kaz is loyal to the Madhouse Renegades, but only because they best serve her interests. She doesn’t really care very much at all about their mission, nor the plight of the other Night Monsters. Her main concern is what is going on in the here and now, how it effects her, and ensuring her own prosperity. As a result of never settling anywhere any longer than two weeks, she doesn’t really realise the extent of the emperor’s tyranny, nor why what she’s doing matters. It’s all a bit of a game to her, and while she loves the thrill of it, she could easily switch sides if she saw enough benefit in it. She’s pledged her loyalty, but her actual commitment is flaky. 

Despite her success in amassing a small fortune, Kaz is terrible at math. Numbers and data are too objective, and hold very little interest for her, doing little but making her head hurt. She can’t tell you exactly how much she is worth- only that she wants more, and there’s no job too small to be below her consideration.

"The Demand For An Ideal Woman"

"THE DEMAND FOR AN IDEAL WOMAN" Recently, the STAR WARS movie, "STAR WARS: EPISODE I - THE PHANTOM MENACE" achieved a milestone. Twenty years has passed since it initial release in theaters in May 1999. However, there have been other recent or upcoming events within the STAR WARS franchise. One of them is the upcoming release of the third Sequel Trilogy movie in December. Another was the recent release of a Young Adults (YA) novel called "Queen's Shadow", the first stand alone story about the Prequel Trilogy's leading lady, Padmé Amidala.

 Many fans, especially women, celebrated the release of "Queen's Shadow". Written by EK Johnston, the novel focused on a period in Padmé's life, when her career underwent a transformation from the elected monarch of Naboo to a senator of Naboo. This meant that the novel was set sometime during those ten years between "THE PHANTOM MENACE" and "STAR WARS: EPISODE II - ATTACK OF THE CLONES". More importantly, this novel featured the first time that Padmé was the main protagonist in any STAR WARS movie, television production or novel. "Queen's Shadow" also led many fans to contemplate the idea of Padmé surviving the birth of her twin children, Luke and Leia, and becoming a leader for the early manifestation of the Rebel Alliance. More importantly, the novel and the 20th anniversary of "THE PHANTOM MENACE" has revived the fans' never ending complaint that filmmaker George Lucas should have portrayed Padmé as an ideal character . . . a feminist icon. As a woman, the idea of a leading woman character as a feminist icon sounds very appealing. But as a lover of films and novels, I tend to harbor a strong wariness toward such characters - regardless of their gender. Recently, some fans have suggested that Padmé should have been the main character of the Prequel Trilogy (1999-2005) and not her husband, Anakin Skywalker. Considering that Anakin eventually became Darth Vader from the Original Trilogy (1977-1983), I found this suggestion a little hard to swallow. Even worse, I find the constant complaints that Lucas had "ruined" Padmé's character, due to the manner of her death in "STAR WARS: EPISODE III - REVENGE OF THE SITH", rather tiresome and pedantic. As I have pointed out in a previous article about Padmé, I found nothing wrong with a person succumbing to death due to a "broken heart" or allowing one's emotions to affect his/her health. Such deaths have actually occurred in real life. And considering that Padmé was in the third trimester of her pregnancy, had endured a series of traumatic events in her professional and personal life, including a recent attack by a jealous Anakin, the circumstances of her death did not surprise me, let alone anger me. In regard to the idea that Padmé should have been the main protagonist of the Prequel Trilogy Amidala . . . this did not make any sense to me. Like Han Solo and Leia Organa in the Original Trilogy, Padmé was a major supporting character in the Prequel Trilogy. The real focus of the Prequel Trilogy was Anakin Skywalker, which made sense considering he proved to be the catalyst of the Jedi Order's downfall and rise of the Galactic Empire. And in his own way, Padmé and Anakin's son, Luke Skywalker, was the Original Trilogy's main character. Although Ewan McGregor was the leading actor in the second and third films of the Prequel Trilogy, Obi-Wan Kenobi was not the central character. It was still Anakin. And I do not recall any film in STAR WARS franchise being made solely about Obi-Wan. Oh yes, there had been plans for one, but due to the failure of "SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY", Disney Studios had decided to curtail any Obi-Wan solo film. Yet, many did not complain. Many had bitched and moaned about how Lucas treated Padmé's character, because he had conveyed her weaknesses, as well as her strengths. He did the same with many male characters. Apparently, certain people cannot deal with a major female character's weaknesses being on display, unless she is either the main character or in a drama. What am I saying? Many people still cannot make up their mines on whether they want the Rey character from Disney's Sequel Trilogy to be ideal or flawed. On the other hand, I once came across an article - it might have come from "The Mary Sue Blog" but I am not sure - claimed that the problem with Padmé was not that she was not allowed to have flaws. This person claimed that the that moviegoers saw her as a problem solver who never gave up in the first two movies. The article also added that Padmé was not someone who would give up the will to live. A few years ago, I had written an ARTICLE that discussed Padmé's mistakes in all three Prequel Trilogy movies and argued that she was not the "flawless" or "ideal" character that many still regard her as. I had also pointed out that in "STAR WARS: EPISODE III – REVENGE OF THE SITH", Padmé had experienced the loss of the Galactic Republic, the rise of the Galactic Empire, the loss of her husband to Palpatine and the Sith, and his physical attack on her in a brief space of time – within two days or less. As someone who had recently experienced personal loss, I understood why she had given in to emotional despair. I had only experienced one loss. Padmé did not. Just because she was able to not give up and overcome a situation in the past, did not mean that she would always be able to do this. I still recall the "BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER" Season Five episode called (5.21) "The Weight of the World" in which the main protagonist, Buffy Summers, had went into a catatonic state after she failing to prevent her younger sister Dawn from being abducted by the season’s Big Bad, a hell demon called Glory. Buffy had failed to overcome her state of catatonic depression on her own. She needed help and she eventually got it in the form of one of her closest friends, Willow Rosenberg. There was no Willow to help Padmé deal with her emotional state during the downfall of the Republic and the Jedi Order. Padmé had no Willow to deal with the emotional trauma of Anakin's transformation into a Sith Lord or his attack upon her. Instead, she had to deal with going into premature labor and giving birth to twins. I hate to say this, but neither Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda or Bail Organa were as emotionally close to Padmé as Willow Rosenberg was close to Buffy Summers. And instead of providing emotional support to her, the two Jedi Masters and the senator were more focused on her going into labor and giving birth. There is something about today's feminism that truly irritates me. Women (both in real life and in fiction) are not allowed to be flawed. Actually, I think today's feminists and sexist men have that trait in common. Both groups demand that women be ideal in a way THEY believe women should be ideal. For feminists, women should be some all knowing saint, who can kick ass and have a successful career outside of the home. For sexist men (or men in general), women should be attractive or beautiful bed warmers, home carers and emotional crutches. Women are expected to revolve their lives around the men in their lives. Women in real life are not allowed to be flawed - especially if they are famous. And fictional women - especially those who are major characters in an action story - are definitely NOT ALLOWED to be flawed. Especially someone like Padmé Amidala. I do not believe that Lucas had subjected Padmé's character with weak writing. I think too many fans were too prejudiced to allow her to be a complex woman with both strengths and weaknesses. They had wanted . . . no, they had demanded she be some feminist icon. While complaining about Padmé's character, they would always compare her with her daughter, Princess Leia Organa aka Skywalker. The ironic thing is that Leia was no more of a feminist icon than her mother. Leia had her own set of flaws. Yes, she was an intelligent and capable political leader, who was also knowledgeable about military tactics and defending herself. Leia also possessed a tough demeanor and a sharp wit. On the other hand, Leia harbored a hot temper, impatience and a penchant for being both judgmental and an emotional coward. Nor was she the type to be forgiving (except with certain people). Two of Leia's flaws - her temper and being judgmental - were on full display in the 1980 movie, "STAR WARS: EPISODE V - THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK". In that film, she had supported Chewbacca’s angry and murderous attack upon Lando Calrissian, after the latter was forced to betray them to Darth Vader and the Empire. During that scene, both Leia and Chewbacca’s anger got the best of them at a time when it should not have. Neither had pondered over how the Empire had arrived on Bespin before them. Nor did they ever considered that Vader had coerced Lando into choosing between betraying Han and them or watching the Empire destroy Bespin and its citizens. Many fans have also complained that George Lucas had failed to explore Padmé's backstory . . . especially in "THE PHANTOM MENACE" and "ATTACK OF THE CLONES". I found this complaint rather hypocritical. Lucas had never bothered to explore Leia or her future husband Han Solo's backstory in the Original Trilogy films. Yet, no one or very few people have complained about this. When Disney Studios finally green-lighted a movie about Han's backstory, many film goers and media outlets like "The Mary Sue Blog" bitched and moaned about how it was not necessary. I suspect they had made this complaint, because it was easier than criticizing how Disney Studios/Lucasfilm had handled the movie's production and theatrical release. Is it any wonder that I found this complaint that a movie about Han's backstory was not necessary, but Padmé's was? And to this day, no one has complained about a lack of Leia's backstory in the 1977-1983 films. Look, I am happy that a novel about Padmé Amidala has been written. And I find it interesting that STAR WARS fans will get a chance to peek into those years between "THE PHANTOM MENACE" and "ATTACK OF THE CLONES". But I must admit that I found myself getting irritated that so many have used the novel's upcoming release to criticize George Lucas' portrayal of her character. It seems obvious to me that a great deal of their criticism is wrapped around a lot of hypocrisy, an inability to understand human nature and a definite lack of attention toward what actually happened to Padmé in the Prequel Trilogy. I cannot help but feel that some people need to realize that in contemplating feminism, they also need to factor in the concept of human nature . . . and good writing. Good writing or a strong character is not one who can do no wrong or be strong, 24/7. A strong character, for me, is someone who possesses both strengths and weaknesses . . . or virtues and flaws. As far as I am concerned, George Lucas had included all in his creation of Padmé Amidala.
