Meet the Vampire Armand

The only casting quibble I have (and always seem to have) is that no one seems willing to give us ginger jailbait Armand. And if I had to choose, I’d choose jailbait over ginger because Armand was turned too young himself, and that’s part of why He’s Like That. Marius explicitly warns Lestat off turning people when they’re too young because of how crazy, obsessive, codependent and deeply weird Armand turned out. So yeah, I wanted to see him 17 and cherubic and unhinged. I always will.

Had they race-bent Armand but kept the age (or made him 18, legal but by no means properly adult) that would have been good too. I just think the auburn hair is pretty, but Armand as Indian instead of Ukrainian is cool. However, Ukrainian would have been intriguing if they kept the “stolen by slavers” storyline considering Ukrainian children are currently being stolen by Russia in the war. An interesting topical bent.

Perhaps they thought it in bad taste, considering the horror is so real in Ukraine? Though, man, modern day slavery is alive and well in the modern Middle East and targets poor Asians including Indians. So… I’m not sure the “in good taste” argument would hold. Horror isn’t just horror when it happens to white people and these show runners certainly know that.

I’d love to know why they made the casting decisions they did with Armand. Especially the aging up. If anything a canon-aged Armand would be even more horrifying in the AMC show, where Lestat and Louis have been aged up.
