I know we all speak and lightly joke about Vishnu's Trickster tendencies....
But if you really think about it, it is not like he used them throughout his incarnations and heavenly deeds. Shree Ram avtar is widely known for being the fairest and just amongst the men, Bhagwan Parshuram is inflammable, yet kind hearted with a simple mind. Bhagwaan Budhha conveyed his message through unfiltered words and nothing more.
So why is his usage of mischief known so widely, to the point its one of his main adjectives to us?
I think the answer lies in the fact that most of the time he used trickery, it was due to something getting in the way of him achieving dharma the sober way.
Amrit distribution? The asurs were mixed amongst the Devas.
Hiranyakashyap? The boon he had.
Bali? He was grandson of Pralhad, whom had been granted the boon of not having his lineage slayed by Vishnu himself.
Bāli(Ramayan)? He had the power to steal half the strength of his opponent
Duryodhan being tricked into wearing a loincloth? Gandhari had accumilated virtue by having been a good woman up until then.
Jayadrath? He had used deception to have Arjuna's son killed aswell
Hence, the one pattern I see in all of this is what I mentioned above: trickery was used to establish dharma when it cpuld not have been done simply.
It is not like Vishnu does not have the power to do things with the flick of his wrist or a blink of his eye, or not do them simply. But, he choses to respect other's wishes and boons and let them know he has not been unfair. He choses to establish dharma and retribute Karma to the likes of Bāli, Jayadrath and his father, even if ways which are not seen moral by the likes of us are involved.
He is the lord of all, and choses to play with deception and mischief to establish dharma as our protector and saviour, does not see himself above what many humans consider "immature" acts and does not shy away from them, accepting them with a mischievous smile the same way he flashes an innocent smile as Ram, all for the prevelance of righteousness.
And even if he does it in times where he has to ensure Karma, it makes sense to everyone. But why go out of his way being mindful of people's wishes if they get in the way of justice and fairness?
Only one readon comes to my mind, and it makes me love him even more.
He loves and respects us mortals even though he does not have to or is required to. He makes for absolute justice and fairness in every sense and not go past people's virtues and boons, simply for us humans to feel heard by him, the almighty. If he isn't the most beautiful, I do not know who is 💖

'Vishnu & Lakshmi' Talon Abraxas
The Symbolic Meaning of Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi
Lord Vishnu is Hindu Myth
Hindu’s recognise Vishnu as the “protector.” He is the aspect of your personality that can dissolve the ego and uphold new Dharmas that enable you to develop peace of mind and bliss.
Ayurvedic teachings describe consciousness as being present. By taking control of emotions present in the five elements and the three gunas, you can take control of your life and master the energies of universal manifestation.
Vishnu is the higher consciousness that guides us and downloads messages that inform us what the right actions are to take. The problem most of us suffer is not knowing when we receive these messages because we are rooted in base consciousness.
Conscious comes to us as a thought, symbolised by Brahma in Hindu mythology. In the “Padma Purana”, Vishnu gives birth to Brahma who blossoms from the lotus flower that sprouts from Vishnu’s navel.
Brahma is said to be the creator of all things. He is the manifestation of ideas in the physical plane. The Lotus flower symbolises enlightenment, implying that consciousness passed to mortals is the Absolute Truth. The instructions to follow.
The Rig Veda states: “Vishnu is the most ancient of all, yet also the most recent. Nothing and no one creates Vishnu, yet Vishnu creates everyone and everything.”
In essence, the Supreme deity is a creative source but serves a greater purpose as the preserver. Escaping the bonds of the habitual mind is not easy and Vishnu has to keep a check that right actions are being followed.
It is said that Vishnu created the world with the right side of his body – that which is controlled by the left-side hemisphere of the brain. Although there are creative aspects in the right-side of the brain, it is widely accepted that most creative powers arise from the left side of the brain.
The right side of the brain is associated with collecting information and analysis. It’s the sensible part of the brain that talks us through what we should really do.
The Incarnations of Vishnu
All matter is conscious which evolves. As Absolute conscious, Vishnu creates the world through Brahma, and Hindu mythology gives an account of the evolution of Earth in the incarnations of Vishnu.
According to legend, Vishnu has reincarnated nine times so far. They are:
Matsya, the fish Kurma, the Turtle (reptiles) Vahara, the pig (animal life) Narasimha, half man, half lion Vaman, the man-dwarf Parashuram the man with an axe Rama – moral man Krishna – philosophical man Buddha – enlightened man
As consciousness evolves in nature it consistently creates improved versions of itself. But Vishnu can only do this with the help of his wife Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
The Symbolic Meaning of Lakshmi
Lakshmi emerged from the churning of the milky ocean on a lotus flower and subsequently incarnates amongst mankind in various forms. Described as ‘the mother of the world’ the goddess nurtures consciousness.
Lakshmi cleans Vishnu’s feet to show her nurturing nature. In chapter 8 of the Vishnu Purana says:
“Vishnu is meaning, she is speech; Hari is polity, she is prudence; Vishnu is understanding, she is intellect, he is righteousness, she is devotion.”
Lakshmi means ‘goals’ and as the goddess of wealth, beauty and love is said to reside in those that are prospering in life. In Hindu art she is always depicted sitting on a one hundred petal lotus indicated she is pure.
Together with Vishnu, Lakshmi is Absolute Consciousness, or The Truth.
Her four arms represent Dharma (doing the right thing), prosperity, perfection and freedom from mental and emotional bondages.
Other qualities of Lakshmi are portrayed through the elephants she is often pictured with. In Hindu esoteric symbolism, elephants represent strength, wisdom and patience, qualities needed to nurture.
The symbolic meaning of Hindu symbols
In ancient myth and Hindu art, Vishnu carries symbolic objects in his four hands and lies on a bed of floating serpents. The serpents represent the wisdom and peace of a calm mind that is freed from anxious thought.
Vishnu’s other symbols are:
Conch = vibrational frequencies and energetic forces that create and sustain all life in the universe. Scientifically speaking, Vishnu is the personification of the Conscious Universe.
Mace = the destructive nature of the god. It symbolizes the dissolution of ego and negative traits or even the destruction of the universe itself.
Bow or Lotus Flower = Both the lotus and the bow represent awakened consciousness that allows you to see beyond the veil of illusion.
Discus = The spinning discus symbolises Purity of mind and used by Vishnu to destroy demons.
The symbolic meaning of Vishnu and Lakshmi relates to the highest forms of human consciousness that we are aware of. Together they tell us what to do, and give us the ability to nurture Brahma into fruition.
Master Mind Content offers online symbolism courses. We have several in-depth guides that explain how symbolism relates to the body-mind-energy connection. Understanding symbolism can help you make important decisions, improve your quality of life and understand more about the world.

Ganesh puja on Vaman Dwadashi 🙏đŸŧ
To celebrate the Vamanji lila, Ganeshji is wearing a yellow prasadi khes from HH Gokulottsavji’s Soma Yagna and has a kamandal (water pot) with him. Four birds represent the four Vedas who have come to sing his praise.
In the Trivikram lila, Vamanji’s foot reached the outermost edge of the universe! Brahma and the sages washed his toe that came up to the Brahma Lok and the water spilled in the firmament of space as Akash Ganga - the Milky Way.
Pichoi at the back alludes to that lila and its darshan 🙏đŸŧ

The Seller of Masks
Valahri Vamane was far more travelled than most, in or out of his country. He had been west of the Great Desert of Myzria and north of the Empire of Niram. He had even seen the Cave of the Blasphemy.
And in all that time and place he had never seen cause to believe that the name of his country was remembered outside of it.
They called it many things, in foreign lands. The Masked Land. Terra Persona. The faceless country.
But he knew what it was actually called.
He came from TeyvÄĢka Muttam, the crumbling Jewel of the West, as it had once been known. Supposedly, according to the ancient legends, the Goddess of Beauty herself had knelt down and kissed the earth in that exact spot, leading the ancients of Terra Persona, the founders of the Old Empire, to build their capital there and name it in her honour.
Even now, it was still the largest city on the peninsula. Even now, the various factions that fought for power in the disunited land considered holding Muttam to symbolize legitimacy.
Valahri had not been back in a long time. There was only one reason he would consider returning, and it had not yet happened. He wasn't sure it ever would.
—
In that year he was living and working in the north, mainly as a seller of masks. They were mostly unadorned, so people could add their own identifying marks. They weren't the fancy ones custom-made by the blind maskmakers for anyone who could afford them, but they did the job all the same.
The masks he wore, the kind he had worn since his return from his travels, were distinct in their own way. He put his own sigil on the forehead of each one, because he wanted to be recognized no matter what he was wearing. In this, he had his reasons.
—
Foreigners to the peninsula never really knew how to blend in. Valahri understood why better than most, since he had been to their lands. They were not cursed and did not have to wear masks unless they wanted to.
So he knew the woman he encountered travelling south in the dry season had to be a foreigner.
That she wore a mask was wise. He had heard stories that foreigners who came to the masked land could sometimes carry the effects of the curse with them for a time after leaving. It was better to get used to a mask now.
"Hello, stranger!" He waved as he rode nearer, calling to her in the common traders' language.
She stopped her horse. When she spoke, it was more cautiously. "And to you as well."
"We don't get many foreigners this far north and east. They usually travel straight to the capital."
"How did you-"
"Your mask. And your accent. You sound like a Westerner."
"Oh..." She sounded disappointed.
"I take it you wanted to blend in more? It's not an easy thing for a foreigner to pose as a native here."
"I suppose I should have expected that. But there's little information available about the specific customs of this land. No one wants to think about it."
"Oh, I've travelled a lot of places. This is a cursed land and a cursed people. It's better if no one thinks about us."
Valahri had his suspicions about what reasons the woman might have for coming to Terra Persona. Most of the foreigners were merchants, and he knew merchants.
This woman was no merchant. Very few casual travellers bothered to visit the cursed land. Which meant she was most likely here for a reason.
And those people... well. Those people generally wanted to discover the secrets of the cursed land – a pursuit that rarely ended well.
Valahri decided that right now, he was going to try and stick with this traveller. "But, if you're so interested, you might want a guide."
The woman's body language was hesitant, but then she nodded. "Are you offering?"
"Yes. Selling masks is, in all honestly, just a side job."
"Then let me introduce myself. I am Karas of Galahra, scholar."
"Well met. Valahri of Muttam. A pleasure to make your acquaintance."
The two continued down the road together. Karas had questions about the accuracy of the map she had brought along with her.
Valahri wondered, in the privacy of his own mind, just how dangerous the scholar's quest would prove to be. The curse made even knowledge of the masked land dangerous outside its bounds.
Well, if push came to shove, perhaps her search could benefit him as well. And perhaps more than just him...
