Cassius had made an extra effort to be on-time tonight, it wasn't often that he bothered with the whole dating scene, but if he was going on a date with somebody? He was going to date the shit out of them. He'd arrived so early, he'd managed to get himself a drink at the bar, loitering and lowly judging other matches, sure that he could tell that one guy would absolutely be wearing a glass of flying champagne before the appetizers had finished.

Checking his watch, he decided it was finally time to take his place, and having checked in with the host to show him where he'd be seated, he sat comfortably at the table. A quick check of his phone to see that it was on do not disturb and that was slid firmly into his jacket pocked.

Thats when he saw her. He couldn't quite place her face, but as she headed towards him something told him that it'd perhaps be he that would be wearing that very champagne he'd thought about earlier.

"Hey." He remarks, standing up to greet Valeria as she reached their table.

"huh—" fuck, this stranger was right. It was not who he'd been expecting, and the buzz of his phone in his back pocket was coming about thirty seconds too late.

(he's sure when he checks it that it'll be his friend telling him they're running late, they're always running late, he should know better.)

"Only you." He remarks at an attempt to joke at her question about him pissing off anyone recently. "uh, thought you were someone else, obviously." he comes to a stop a couple of meters away from her, aware that a stranger thats mildly threatened you at six am probably isn't someone you want standing too close. His hand moves, plucking his phone from his pocket, eyes skimming the text, confirming that his friend has just rolled out of bed.

"Sorry, I imagine thats not the good morning you're used to."

Valeria was used to waking up at the ass-crack of dawn growing up since she had breakfasts to make and siblings to get to school before getting to work. And even if she wasn't, since she'd just upended her whole life, it was difficult to sleep for more than a couple hours before she was up and out, wanting to learn the new town she was going to be calling home. In hindsight though, walking around before the sun was really out maybe wasn't the best of ideas on her part and she paused at a nearby bench so she could bring up the map on her phone, figuring she could maybe find a coffee shop or something nearby, when she heard the comment.

Val looked around her before back to the man, raising a brow at him. "Unfortunately you're threatening the wrong person, dude." She told him, motioning around the empty sidewalk around them. "I haven't seen anyone around in a few minutes. Piss someone off lately though? This may be some sort of retribution."

"I can't choose one, that's like choosing between children. They all bring something different and I know that the nature of this business means they won't be here forever, probably not even for long but it's nice to have them and all their little eccentricities around while they are."

"You got any idea what Asher'd want for his birthday?" Uly asks his best friend's sister when she seemed less busy than when he had arrived. Though the actual day was a couple of weeks out, he was a bad gift-giver by virtue of usually not caring enough to even try -- but this was an exception.

🫂 PEOPLE HUGGING — generally speaking, do you feel very supported by the people in your life? how strong and cohesive is your support system, if you have one? do you often feel like you're at the front of the line or pushed to the side by the people in your life?

"Yeah, for sure! I feel like I'm always near the top of their lists. Not in an 'I'm number one' kind of way, but if I need something, they're there. Just like I'm there for them. My sister is my longest standing support system, she practically raised me, and she's never given up on me through all the highs and lows of our family. Gillian pushes and motivates me to be and do the best I ever can. She's made me feel so loved.

And sure, I've only known Uly for a little over a year, but he's got my back more than anyone ever has in my life. Everyone's gotta get a ride or die like him. I also have Leo, who's there to cheer me up on a bad day, and whether Angel likes it or not, he is my go-to when I'm having any house issues. I'm very lucky."

Santiago exhaled a sigh of relief once he had ushered the last lingering barfly from the pub and pulled the inside door bolt closed to prevent any wanderers from chancing an appearance.

( Any lights on at Four Leaf drew in his most prolific regulars like moths to a Guinness dispensing flame. )

"That's the last of them," He says as he turns to face Val, "I hope."

Seamus hadn't taken the hint when he had started stacking stools on tables, remaining glued to his own at the bar instead. He knew the Irishman well enough to know he didn't set out to cause trouble but the Jameson and his fiery nature could be a volatile mix.

"Some nights Seamy thinks closing time's a negotiation," He explains as he makes his way behind the bar to get started on his least favorite post close task -- cleaning the draft drip tray.

'Yeah, for sure. I don’t know what cohesive means, but my circle? It’s full of pretty rad people. I’m there for them, they’re there for me. I never feel pushed aside. 

Uly has been there every time I needed him, he didn’t even give me the boot once my studio was fixed after that whack storm. Gillian supports most of my decisions, which is for the better that she doesn’t support all of them, because she looks out for when I’m making a dumb choice like wanting to buy something I definitely shouldn’t. Atticus and Angel both are on my 911 list, not literally, I mean. Unless I start a fire. Val had been my biggest, making sure I was raised and lived to see a future. So yeah, I’m pretty good on the support front, huh?'

Valeria nodded as the other girl spoke, still just not able to wrap her head around the idea of not having siblings since her entire life (up until now) solely revolved around them. She couldn't imagine life as an only child, especially given the life she'd lead up until now. She wouldn't have stayed in Arizona if she didn't have to raise her sisters- so where would she have gone? Would she have ever come here at all? Or maybe gone to school? Like that silly old commercial said, the world may never know. "Definitely a lot of special moments." She replied, her smile softening before she snapped out of the thought and laughed, "But yeah anyways, all these trends that died just...need to stay dead."

"Alright now," Ziggy says, pleased with effort as opposed to any of the other adjectives that could have been conjured by his artistic attempt.

"That is a fantastic idea," He acknowledges, leaving his pumpkin unattended so he could go fetch the reddest red that was available along with a brush to save his hands from wearing the same.

Before he starts his now-murder scene, he lifts his wine glass to his lips to take a swig from it, admiring the woman's own efforts while he did so.

"Has yours ever had a homicidal streak? Maybe it's a suspect in Pumpi Lapone's untimely demise."

Even if it was maybe geared towards being a family-friendly activity to do with kids, Valeria was all too happy to carve a pumpkin while sipping a glass of wine- even if she wasn't very good at it. Maybe she'd convince Asher to come and do it with her next weekend so he could do more of the labor. As she took a sip of her wine she heard the comment then and looked over, even tilting her head to the side a bit as she looked the pumpkin over. "It's giving....effort?" She offered with a laugh. "I for one happen to like the wonky-looking ones anyways. The perfect ones always look fake. Maybe go grab some painting stuff next and splatter it with red and say it's a pumpkin murder victim?"
