This is the haunted Rensow Manor in Rensow, Germany. It's not for sale, it's owned by a Danish Countess, and you can stay in the "library apartment" as a short term rental.

The Library Apt. is on the ground floor and was built in the part of the manor that was constructed in 1690.

The Countess has furnished the manor in 17th century furniture and a lot of the rooms are lit only by candlelight.

She has made a great effort to carefully preserve the Baroque era feel of the home and it exudes the dark academia style.

Dusty books line the shelves and heavy paintings decorate the walls. Globes and candelabras sit on tables.

The Countess actually lives here and guests have the apt. that includes a library/living room, bedroom, kitchenette and bath. A small wood burning stove heats the apt.

Carefully arranged tableaus are meant to be creepy.

Even sunlight doesn't brighten the space.

HOW THE HELL DID THE BANK GET A HOLD OF THE MANOR, DID HIS PARENTS NOT PAY THE MORTGAGE??? EVEN THO THEY'RE *RICH*???????? IS THIS SET UP (poorly because it makes zero sense) IN ONE OF THE EARLIER COMICS??

WHY DID BRUCE-MAN BAT-WAYNE, THE AMN WHO IS AS INFINITELY RICH AS THE WRITERS WANT, NOT THINK, "OH! I'll JUST SET UP A FOUNDATION THAT SPECIFICALLY CATERS TO THE PEOPLE WHO FIND THEMSELVES IN HENCHMEN POSITIONS! I CAN, SINCE I'M BRUCE FUCKING WAYNE, SET UP A PROGRAM WHERE IF THEY ATTENDED SOME CLASSES TO TEACH THEM VALUABLE TRADES THEY CAN RECEIVE SPECIAL WELLNESS CHECKS SO THEY CAN SURVIVE UNTIL THEY CAN GET AN HONEST JOB! WHY was the Vandal Savage plot line needed??? The rogues would have teamed up eventually, they did not need Savage to coordinate that and there could have still been a mole in Selina's crew. Then when the rogues finaly strike the Bats and the Cats could have worked together and then finaly talked things out ( if this was writen by a sane person)

also they kill Ra's Al Ghul of screen?? is he dead for good?? explain??

i also want to acknowledge Salina more; even though this was equally her story i barely talked about her and i am sorry. You deserve so much better Salina, both from me and from Bruce. You had an idea that would be considered good in the context of Gotham and what the writers were willing to humor

( even though had the writers been sane she could have offered my earlier proposal to Bruce, but sadly we don't live in that timeline U_U )

Worum geht's?

Willkommen in den großen Ferien der Sinister-Winterbottom-Geschwister! Die Sinister-Winterbottoms, das sind die zwölfjährigen Zwillinge Theo und Alexander und ihre große Schwester Wil. Anstatt die Ferien als Kernfamilie zu verbringen, finden die drei sich bei ihrer bisher unbekannten Tante Saffronia wieder, ohne zu wissen, wo ihre Eltern abgeblieben sind. Schwuppdiwupp landen sie dann im Wasservergnügungspark Fathoms of Fun, der ein bisschen seltsam anmutet mit seinen sargförmigen Flößen, den Mausoleen, die als Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten dienen und dem Wellenbad, das den Besitzer des Parks verschluckt haben soll. Als dann auch noch Wil spurlos verschwindet, machen Theo und Alexander sich auf, um die geheimen Machenschaften von Fathoms of Fun zu ergründen.

Na, hat schon jemand Lemony Snicket oder die Baudelaires auf der Zunge liegen? Der Vergleich liegt nahe. Die Reihe wirkt wie eine Hommage an den Großmeister der schrägen Kinderabenteuer, allerdings etwas weniger raffiniert in Sachen Humor und literarische Anspielungen und dafür sensibler in Bezug auf die Repräsentation psychischer Gesundheit.

Ferienorte der Schauerliteratur

Nach dem Abenteuer im Wasserpark zieht es die Geschwister in den folgenden vier Bänden von einem Ferienort zum nächsten. Sie besuchen einen Spa mit ausgesonderter Kinderbetreuung, ein Ferienlager mit Sport- und Bastelaktivitäten, ein Wissenschaftscamp und einen Rummel. Dort finden sie neue Freunde und Feinde und kommen dem Verschwinden ihrer Eltern immer weiter auf die Spur. Während jedes Buch eine rätselhaft-amüsante, in sich abgeschlossene Story enthält, entspinnt sich in der Rahmenhandlung ein ganzes Komplott an Geheimnissen (auch das: ähnlich wie bei Lemony Snicket), das gern noch komplexer hätte sein können bzw. im letzten Band ausführlicher aufgeschlüsselt werden. Dennoch wird dadurch das Interesse an den Fortsetzungen aufrechterhalten.

Einen Großteil des Charmes der Bücher macht das jeweilige Setting aus. Zum einen sind es die klassischen (amerikanischen) Ferienorte, mit denen viele Lesende nostalgische Kindheitserinnerungen (oder zumindest amerikanische Filme und Bücher) verbinden dürften, zum anderen ist es die quirlige Kombination mit Klassikern der Schauerliteratur. Während der von Fledermäusen heimgesuchte Spa wie ein Ort aus Bram Stokers bekanntestem Roman wirkt und die Geschwister Angst um ihr Blut bekommen, wird in Camp Creepy mit den Themen Gehirnwäsche und verschiedene Persönlichkeiten à la Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde gespielt. Im Wissenschaftscamp rufen Experimente mit Elektrizität Assoziationen mit Frankenstein hervor und der Wasserpark und Rummel bedienen sich verschiedener Motive aus Poes Œuvre, der Mythologie rund um Meerjungfrauen und riesiger Roboter, die an Ted Hughes’ The Iron Man erinnern.

Wortspiele und psychische Gesundheit

Der bereits erwähnte Vergleich mit Lemony Snicket spiegelt sich neben der Handlung und den literarischen Referenzen auch im Schreibstil wider, denn dieser ist gespickt von witzigen Vokabelerläuterungen, Wortspielen und ein bisschen Blödsinn. Wie schon bei den intertextuellen Verweisen wird es hier nie so clever wie bei Lemony Snicket, aber durchaus unterhaltsam, sowohl für Kinder als auch für Erwachsene:

A border is an imaginary line, like the one you sometimes draw across the middle of your room to designate which side is yours and which side is your sibling’s so that you can get as close as possible to the line and fight about it. Borders are literally, exactly, that same thing, only for countries instead of siblings. (Kiersten White: Vampiric Vacation, S. 17)

Was die Sinister-Summer-Reihe den Baudelaires allerdings voraus hat, ist ein sensibler Fokus auf Inklusivität und Diversität. Das zeigt sich am besten an den Hauptfiguren Theo und Alexander. Die beiden sind beinahe das komplette Gegenteil voneinander, ergänzen sich dadurch aber wunderbar und nehmen Rücksicht aufeinander. Theo zeigt Merkmale von ADHS, steht immer unter Strom, liebt es, sich sportlich zu betätigen, ist frech, laut und kriegt ihre Wut manchmal nicht unter Kontrolle. Alexander hingegen ist bedacht und vorsichtig, er liebt Regeln und Ordnung, liest und kocht gern (aber nur nach hygienischen Standards) und wirkt von Angststörungen geplagt. Im Laufe der Bücher verhelfen den Zwillingen diese Eigenschaften oft zum Erfolg. Manchmal müssen sie aber auch über sich hinauswachsen und sich an der anderen Person ein Beispiel nehmen. Insgesamt wird jedoch stark die Nachricht vermittelt, dass sie (und du auch) gut so sind, wie sie sind, dass sie sich nicht ändern müssen, weil sie nicht dem Status Quo entsprechen und ihre Eigenschaften nicht zwangsweise als Makel ausgelegt werden sollten.

Wer die Baudelaires vermisst, schräge Geschichten liebt oder unterhaltsame Ferienlektüre mit Grusel, Witz und Herz sucht, dem gebe ich hiermit die Sinister-Summer-Reihe an die Hand. Allen, die der klassischen Zielgruppe bereits entwachsen sind, würde ich empfehlen, sie nicht unbedingt hintereinander zu lesen; das könnte doch etwas repetitiv werden und deutlicher machen, dass Band 4 schwächelt, aber mit ein paar Wochen Abstand dazwischen, sind sie wunderbare Sommertrips.
