🎯PRO TIP🎯 PREPPING AND LOADING YOUR CANVAS . You guys asked for it, so here’s what I do. . I first wipe my canvas down with a wet @bountypapertowels and @mrsmeyerscleanday soap. Those tend to hold up the best and I’ve found the soap to not rub my paint off. I then go over it with a plain wet paper towel and lastly a dry one. . I flip my canvas over and spray the back with water. If you don’t have a spray bottle, you can just pour a little on there. What happens is the canvas tightens up nice and tight so you don’t have to put any cardboard on the back and the weight of the resin won’t droop it down 🤩! Massage the water into the canvas for a few seconds, until it’s evenly distributed. Then flip your canvas back over. Now you’re ready for your loading coat. Mix your resin carefully, according to the manufacturers instructions. This is the most important part of working with resin, after safety. Once resin is properly mixed, pour onto canvas. Use a tool to disperse your resin over entire canvas. I like to use my gloved hands and massage it into the canvas. Once covered, use a heat gun or torch to get any bubbles out. I used a butane torch for this. . Next, I waited approximately 3-4 hours, while the resin was still tacky, and did another coat, called the flood coat. Resulting in an amazing finish!! . Let’s make a tray! Confession : I have a problem. Every piece I make is my favorite 🙈. Why is it so hard to part with art🤷🏽‍♀️? I think this one is hard to part with because of the lessons I learned while making this. You see, I tend to be very passionate about helping people and never think they have an ulterior motive or “hidden agenda”. I made this for a master class last year. I partnered with a local DIY Bar owner several times to ensure things were on track. I should have trusted my gut when I felt something wrong. By this time I had taught over 100 art workshops and was in the process of making my kit. The agreement was to stock my kits in her shop and allow her to teach MY techniques at her shop. But she kept asking for details I felt were unusual, like breaking down everything! I taught this woman everything about fluidart I know. For free... and in good faith looking at this as an investment. She agreed to pay royalties. EXCEPT... none of this was in writing. The day of the master class I’m made aware that one of the students is one of her employees and will actually be teaching my workshops. It felt weird that she never told me about this but I was like whatever right. After everything was said and done, this business deal cost me over $3,000. This lady thought it would be ok to write me a $150 check and pull out. I didn’t take it. It’s probably one of the greatest insults I’ve ever received. She now sells her own pour kits. Some people have no self respect. So here’s the lesson guys: 👉🏽HAVE EVERYTHING IN WRITING.
