"Isn't a gourd, like... a pumpkin?" Obi raised one eyebrow, flicking his tail in confusion. "It's probably a figure of speech, Obi." Thalia held him a bit closer before she could answer to her question. "As far as I know, humans use special needle-like pens that stab the skin multiple times to introduce the ink. It's a painful process, since the stabs are very tiny, but the bigger the tattoo is, the more hurt you get. Then the skin needs some time to heal. When it heals, the skin retains the ink inside and the tattoo can be displayed without the risk of an infection." Obi opened his eyes like saucers at such explanation. "I... I don't think that I'll ever want a tattoo, mommy. That sounds like it hurts a lot!!"

All three fairies looked at Thalia with mixed expressions of surprise and shock. Finally Sparrow spoke. "I... Agree with little bud there, that sounds painful!"

"Buuut..." Zinnia started. "It would be permanent?" she asked, mulling it over.

"But, Zinnia, needles, multiple times, in your skin!" Rowan emphasized.

"Oh, as if you weren't just imagining your blushing rosy apple over here," she said referring to Thalia, "wearing your art on her... permanently." She raised her eyebrows at him.

A blush covered Rowan's cheeks again. "Uh, ah ha... heh, uh..." he said intelligently.

Zinnia fluttered upwards and slapped Thalia on the shoulder in a friendly matter. She had to fly to do it because Thalia was so much taller than she was. "Well, you'll have to tell me more about it later. Say, since you're one of the only non-season associated beings in all of the seasonal lands, you can actually come over to The Place Where Autumn Connects and visit!

"We make wonderful acorn tea. Or tea in general. Tea leaves from other seasons is much too fresh," she nodded to Rowan. "Or hot," she nodded to Sparrow. "Or just cold." She nodded towards the winter gate.

"But we came here to haggle over some berries. I say we get started. Sparrow you wont get those raspberries this time!"

They were nearing the end. Almost 20 days later. Almost.

At this point, Rowan had given up on trying... well, anything. She's too weak, either way. It feels like her body ceased functioning, but her consciousness remains intact. She tried to keep her usual routine up, but that all ended near day 14, when their body outright rejected the apple she tried to eat. Barely a bite, and they were curled up on themself, coughing up the tiny portion of fruit and an excessive amount of saliva. They cried for 20 minutes straight afterwards. There was no recovery or return.

Day 19 is nearing its end. At least, they think so. The last day or two has been... a blur. She remembers Cosmos trying to carry her still when she became motionless on his back. She vaguely remembers falling to the ground. That's where they've stayed for... some amount of time, they don't know anymore. They tried getting up at some point but their limbs refused to answer, so they abandoned that idea as well.

Cosmos stands next to her in her near-dead state, simply observing her and their surroundings. Until Rowan is gone, he shall stand with her, he thinks. He'd tell her if she could hear him. Hopefully the gesture is enough.

With their eyes fixed on the night sky, the last thing she'll ever see, they couldn't help but smile weakly. Lucky. A clear night. Being so far away from any artificial lights, the stars seem to shine twice as bright as usual, illuminating each galaxy in the far, far, distance.

Despite her aching bones, each vein shooting pangs of pain through her, and overwhelming nausea, they feel almost at peace.
