First of all thanks for the chapter it was a very good one and I appreciate your work , and sorry for the multitude of questions
Second, I was thinking in the past few days about how much shiki could change things and a sudden though hit me, shiki could possibly kill mahogara right? And if she did so, would that mean Megumi is getting slapped with a special class rank? (And if she did that, how would satoru and the others react)
Third, I was thinking about the balance between the 3 great families and well, I can't really understand why the kamo are among them, like , the gojo have the six eyes and infinity, the zenin have the 10 shadows and mahoraga, but what do the kamo have? Blood manipulation, don't get me wrong it's a cool as hell technique, but I don't think it measures up to the other two(like choso and the death paintings are an exception because their curse blood gives them both poisonous/acidic properties and allows them to turn cursed energy into more blood), idk what do you think?
Fourth, I can't stop imagining geto watching shiki's dance during obon, like I can imagine him being far away enough so satoru doesn't find him, but I can't take the image of geto just being there watching things unfold out of my head
Fifth, do you plan on continuing your Tokyo ghoul or your One piece stories? And i heard you're gonna move your works completely to AO3 , is that true?
Hello and thanks for reading! To answer your questions:
1: To my understanding, in order for the user of Ten Shadows to add a new shikigami to their roster, they must summon and defeat it by themselves.
Quoting Fushiguro from c.117: "You can exorcise a shikigami with multiple people, but doing so nullifies the technique's effect after the exorcism is done."
So, they can pull others into this ritual -but it's a 'useless exorcism,' as the sorcerer won't actually be able to summon the shikigami even if it's defeated. (Unless the shikigami is summoned for a similar purpose as in Fushiguro v. Shigemo, in which case Fushiguro wasn't actually trying to subdue Mahogara.)
TLDR: Neither Shiki nor Satoru can defeat Mahogara for Fushiguro to gain it as a shikigami.
2: I mean... given that the three clans are all stated to be descended from the Three Great Vengeful Spirits, I'd assume that means the three clans all have powerful sorcerers? In some ways you could argue that Blood Manipulation seems to fall short of Limitless and Ten Shadows, but maybe it also has to do with the situation as a whole. For example, say that there's a generation where there's only a Limitless user without Six Eyes and no Ten Shadows, I could easily see a sorcerer with Blood Manipulation from the Kamo Clan come out on top.
If there was ever a blood manipulator at some point in the past who could also manipulate other people's blood in addition to their own, I'd imagine that would be quite terrifying as well.
3: I don't think Geto would've taken the risk to watch Shiki's performance during Obon in person, but he definitely would've learned of it in short order.
4: left hand upon a mirror is discontinued; I don't see myself picking it back up and continuing it. and much madness must make is complete, with a nonzero chance of random au updates if the muse strikes in the future.
Any new stories that I write going forward will be posted on AO3 and not FFN.

In Japan, we are approaching the time of Obon.
“Obon” is a Buddhist festival in Japan to honor the spirit of our ancestors, we welcome back the spirits of the dead during Obon every year. On August 13th, we burn the welcome fire, called “Mukaebi”, to guide the spirits of the ancestors. And when we send the spirits of the ancestors back, we again burn the fire, called “Okuribi”, on 16th.
How would they feel recent situation of Japan or the growing turmoil in the world… :-(

Annotations for “the seventh day of the seventh month”
(Link to the fic if you’ve somehow managed to stumble on this.)
As usual, I am only annotating the big things! If you wanna know more, feel free to hit me up in the comments on AO3 or on Tumblr! There are also a bunch of little jokes and Easter eggs hidden throughout the fic, if you have more knowledge of Japanese religion/Japanese language/my other fics. If you find any of them, please let me know and I will give you a virtual gold star.
Festivals in general - “Wow, Queenie, have you been to a festival before?” you ask. Yeah, you might say that. If I have managed to capture a fraction of the colorful, weird, liminal, sweaty, noisy, marvelous mess that is a summer festival, I will be content.
Tanabata - Tanabata is a festival based on a legend about the weaving maiden (Orihime) and the cowherd (Hikoboshi). They are separated by the Milky Way and can only meet (via a magpie bridge across the Milky Way) once a year. If it’s raining on Tanabata, the magpie bridge can’t form and they can’t meet. Orihime and Hikoboshi correspond to the stars Vega and Altair, respectively. There is a lot more Tanabata Lore that I didn’t really get into in this fic; look it up if you’re interested in learning more!
Tanabata in Morioh - Morioh is based on real world Sendai (S City), which is famous for its Tanabata celebrations (held August 6-8). Morioh’s Tanabata isn’t a one-to-one reproduction of Tanabata in Sendai, but look it up if you want some visual references (and because it’s cool)!
Shrine geography - The exact layout of each shrine is different, but some common features: a main shrine building (that people usually pray outside of), one or more shrine gates, and a shrine office (which is where they dispense charms and fortunes and amulets for household altars). In case you need a refresher, Jotaro’s local shrine looks like this. Assuming that I’ve done my mapping correctly, this is the real-world analogue of Josuke’s local shrine, although the layout of the Morioh shrine in this fic is fictional.
Japan’s two-part summer - Japanese summer is split into the “rainy season” (mid-June to mid-July) and “after the rainy season” (mid-July to September). The rainy season is appreciably cooler and less humid but also...more rainy. July 7 and August 7 thus have pretty wildly different weather patterns, even putting aside geographical differences.
Tanabata wishes - A common way to celebrate Tanabata is to write wishes on little slips of paper and tie them to bamboo. Here’s a visual.
Yukata - A yukata is a summer version of a kimono; please do not ask me to describe clothing and instead look at this visual reference. An obi is the sash used to tie a yukata. Children’s yukata have different patterns than adult yukata (which also have different patterns based on gender); here’s a visual reference. The joke here is that the only yukata Koichi could find that fit him was made for a child.
Gagaku - Traditional court music; it sounds like this. The taiko drum is the big drum (which is also used at shrines, independently from gagaku performance). Festivals will sometimes have live gagaku music...or will sometimes play the same 30-minute cassette on loop over the shrine A/V system for thirteen hours. It’s fine.
The One-Month Delay - All facts offered in this fic are true and accurate. Tanabata has a really wide range of dates when it gets celebrated in Japan, including: the seventh day of the seventh month under the Gregorian calendar (July 7), the seventh day of the seventh month under the Gregorian calendar + one-month delay (August 7), and the seventh day of the seventh month under the lunar calendar (dates variable depending on the year).
Obon - A Buddhist festival honoring the spirits of the dead. Traditionally held on the fifteenth of the seventh month under the lunar calendar, but now officially recognized as a national holiday on August 15 in Japan. Like Tanabata, different areas of Japan celebrate it on different days. The Obon holiday (August 13-15, although some schools and workplaces may give more time off) is one of the biggest travel holidays in Japan.
Festival food - Each region of Japan has its own specialty foods, but there are a lot of Festival Foods™ you can find anywhere. I’m not going to annotate most of the individual foods because I think they’re pretty easy to uncover via Google if you’re interested! “Queenie, is Jotaro right about cucumber on a stick?” you ask. I skillfully dodge the question.
Wait, hold on, it’s just a cucumber? On a stick? It’s (lightly) pickled but, essentially, yes.
Frozen mikan can - Okay, I’ll actually gloss this one, since I do think it’s one of the less common festival foods in this fic. Basically, you take a can of mikan (sometimes called “Satsuma oranges” or “mandarin oranges” in the States) and you...freeze it. Visual reference here. It turns into a solid block of ice and fruit that you painstakingly chisel out with a plastic spoon. Highly recommended.
Miko - If you’ve seen an appreciable amount of anime, you probably already know what a miko is, but they’re the young women (sometimes called “shrine maidens”) who staff shrines. Here’s a visual reference. Some (bigger) shrines have full-time miko, but smaller ones tend to hire high school and college students part-time. Yukako is correct that some people claim serving as a miko is good training for marriage.
Charms - Shrines sell charms for different benefits--they tend to be made out of brocade, often with the benefit and/or the name of the shrine embroidered on them. Here’s a nice visual of a bunch of different types. Some common charms you can find at pretty much any shrine: traffic safety, success in academics, good health, recovery from illness, safe childbirth, success at work, peace and prosperity in the household, business prosperity, etc.
Happi - A type of straight-sleeved coat, primarily worn at festivals. Visual reference here.
Japanese toy guns - Surprisingly common at festivals and pretty unnerving for Americans, since they’re not legally required to make them look fake.
#DO NOT LOOK UNTIL THE FIC GOES UP or ELSE :U#I gotta post so I can link you know how it is#Queenie actually says something on this blog#parallelism palooza#can't believe this is the first set of annotations I've written since Buddhism fic! wild!

★ Aug. 9, 2019 1) Kameya-yoshinaga, Kyoto: okuri-bi (lit. ‘send-off/farewell’-[bon]fires) 2) Senbon-tamajuken, Kyoto: okuri-bi ——– 1) A ball of white bean paste rolled with ‘uiro’ dough. 2) A ball of sweet bean paste covered with translucent dough made with kudzu (Japanese arrowroot starch) and so on. Both with the Chinese character 'dai(large/big)[-monji(character)]’ on the dough. ——– These cake are inspired by an 'obon’*1 event called Gozan no Okuribi (lit. 'send-off’ bonfires on five mountains), which is one of the four main festivals held in the city of Kyoto and also one of the main summer highlights seen in the city. On the evening of August 16, five giant bonfires*2 in the shape of Chinese characters, a ship and a shrine gate*3 are each lit on five mountains*4 surrounding the city, standing out against the summer night sky.*5 ——– *1 'Obon/bon’ is a Japanese traditional custom/festival to honor/commemorate the spirits of one’s deceased family member(s). It is apparently associated with/based on? ancient people’s notion that, during the 'obon’ period, the spirits of the deceased returned to this world (and their homes) and had reunion with the (living) family members. *2 In the 'obon’ custom, bonfires and paper lanterns, etc. are generally thought of as 'guide lights’ to welcome/send off the departed, or put another way, to guide the dead to this world and their home/back to the other world. (The 'welcoming/greeting’ fire is referred to as 'mukae-bi’ in Japanese.) *3 For example, about 200m at the longest part for the 'funa-gata (lit. ship-design)’ bonfire. *4 Or rather six mountains. *5 FYI, please take a look at the posts of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsD6bdCy44A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maPyof5eKqs (About 6 minutes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vxTHoazP7Q (Hard work behind the scenes. I would've loved to see the Xiaolin kiddos sharing their cultures with each other, especially language, food, and holidays. Omi is coded as Chinese (so, I headcanon that his native tongue is Mandarin), but we know that Raimundo, Kimiko, and Clay are Brazilian, Japanese, and American respectively. I headcanon that they're all bilingual, since they all live at the Xiaolin Temple in China, and every thing we've seen written in the scrolls is written in Chinese, which they can read. So, they can speak their native languages, English, and Mandarin. (What exceptionally talented children Master Fung chose to be his students, lol).
They've already experienced Clay's life, a little, when they went back to Texas with him. They woke up at the crack of dawn, herded and roped cattle, Omi milked a cow for the first time ever, etc. It's canon that Clay loves to eat and is skilled in a number of things: wrestling, lassoing, trick roping, whittling, horse and bull riding, guitar, and square dancing. Since he loves to eat, I imagine he loves to cook too. Barbecue is a big part of Texas cuisine, so there's no reason why he wouldn't fire up a grill for steaks, burgers, and hotdogs if given the opportunity. The monks spend every Christmas with Clay's family, more so because they aren't worked to the bone from dusk til dawn.
Moving on to Raimundo: it's canon that he loves to surf, play soccer, and that he knows capoeira. It was mentioned in one episode (when they were all bickering with each other in Ep. 11 - Royal Rumble) that Clay doesn't understand a lick of the music that Rai listens to (and why would you Clay, when it's Portuguese, lol). Rai would most certainly be open to introducing Clay to Brazilian music. I headcanon that he knows how to dance the samba, and would definitely try to teach it to his friends, wherein embarrassment and hilarity would ensue, and that he practices capoeira daily to music. Omi doesn't understand it one bit, since he'd think he was dancing, and Raimundo would have to explain to him, multiple times, that while it is sorta like dancing, it's also so much more than that. (Queue Rai going into the history of capoeira). The closest Omi would get to understanding it is by likening it unto Drunken Fist, particularly because of its constant movement, and Rai would practice it with him, much to Omi's delight. Rai's adamant about them attending Carnival in Rio de Janeiro at least once (and then every time afterwards), since it's a week-long event. He visits home every year during this time, since his family is together, and since he considers the monks apart of his family, they're welcomed too. His family takes a particular liking to Kimiko, much to Rai's dismay (Her fiery spirit would fit right in with the Pedrosa family). When it comes to cuisine, Rai is a pro at Brazilian snacks, since I headcanon that he learned his way around the kitchen by watching his mother and grandmother. He can whip up a mean batch of Pão de Queijo, Coxinha, Frango A Passarinho (Brazilian Chicken Wings), Pastel Frito de Frango (stuffed pastries), etc. Most of it is too spicy for the others, especially the sauces he tells them they must eat with the food or it won't be the same, and the only one who's down for it is Clay, who's philosophy is, "I'll try anythin' once." He loves it.
Kimiko probably has the grandest of times introducing them to her culture. They've already been to Tokyo, but they only went for Shen Gong Wu, so they didn't really get to experience it the way they wanted to. Kimiko makes it a point to bring them back, so they can really get a taste for Japanese culture outside of Goo Zombies. There's more festivals than Kimiko can name, but among them are some of her favorites are Hanami, Tanabata, Obon, Golden Week, Sanja Matsuri, and Shogatsu, but the latter is strictly reserved for Chinese New Year, despite not falling in the same period, for Omi's sake. Without a doubt, she takes them to Kinokuniya and introduces them to animanga. Of all the guys, Raimundo takes a liking to it the most. The one holiday that throws them all for a loop is Valentine's Day, particularly Omi and Raimundo, since V-Day isn't really celebrated in Brazil or China. Kimiko's not exactly known for gift-giving outside of Chinese New Year and Christmas, so when the boys suddenly receive chocolates from her, they have these looks on their faces. Like, "What's this for?" or "What did you do to this? This isn't some kinda trick, is it?" She almost doesn't give it to Raimundo because of this, threatening to give his to Jack instead, but he hurriedly apologizes, because it's not everyday a guy receives chocolates (especially from the girl he likes). Omi lights up and Clay is confused. The U.S. celebrates V-Day, though not like this. Usually the guy does things for the girl he likes, particularly if they're a couple, not the other way around. But Kimiko explains to him how Japan celebrates the holiday, the difference between honmei and obligatory chocolates, and how the girl gives honmei (or homemade) chocolates to the guy she likes or obligatory chocolate (in most cases, store-bought) to people she considers her friends. And, if he returns those feelings, he gives the girl a gift on White Day. Omi and Clay thank her and dig in with fervor.
Raimundo being Raimundo, however, asks her which one his is, obligatory or honmei, to which Kimiko flares up, embarrassed and angry, and throws it and yells at him that it's obligatory. What else would it be? Clay just gives him this knowing look, and that embarrasses Rai more than Kimiko's reaction. (Why, you're about as transparent as a glass 'a water, Rai). Omi doesn't pick up on it, since he's thinking it's Rai just being Rai. That and he's more focused on the fact that he received chocolate.
Omi relishes in all of it, honestly. Being an orphan and being raised in a Xiaolin temple where all he did was train, he didn't really know too much about the outside world. Plus, he's the youngest of the group. Besides Chinese New Year, in which he received gifts from Dojo and Master Fung, he really didn't have much to look forward to. But, now he does, especially since he has such an amazing family in the other monks, including Jermaine. (Seriously, yall, his expression at the end of Omi Town, when the others gave him gifts and called him their family was way too sweet for words). Whether Omi knows it or not, he's a Pedrosa-Tohomiko-Bailey-Fung-Cho.

†: Did they come from a religious family/culture? // ✨: What motivates them? Is it a deep rooted passion/motivation, or is it something they struggle with from time to time?
More & More! Headcanons
†: Did they come from a religious family/culture?
Cor is half Doman (Doma from FFXIV) and Lucian. His Lucian family didn’t bother rasing him, and his Doman side did believe in ghosts and have their own religion of Hingan Kami (Like Shinryuu the dragon) but for the most part, they were so busy they never actively practiced any of it. Maybe a prayer for the dead, an alter for them, a candle lit, an obon dance, but it never meant much to him.
Cor actually didn’t believe ghosts were real until he cut off Gilgamesh’s arm and saw he was in fact a hollow suit of armor. Even now, he doesn’t believe much of anything, the Cosmogony or the Hingan Kami or the general belief in spirits or ghosts. He thinks there’s more logical ways to rationalize things that go bump in the night, and also Cor is pretty simple-minded, and it’s easier to just think that it’s something he can take care of instead of a ghost he can’t really control, so perhaps part is his own comfort, but mostly his experience has led him to be more atheistic than anything else. (Yes I know the Six are real and Cor has probably even seen them but even seeing them or hearing them move around he still doesn’t believe in them being gods, more so just special magical things.)
✨: What motivates them? Is it a deep rooted passion/motivation, or is it something they struggle with from time to time?
Okay, all kidding aside, staying alive is Cor’s main motivation. Being dead seems really counterproductive. However, due to his heritage that I write, I believe he originally joined the Crownsguard to seek citizenship as a Lucian after their family lost it from Niflheim advancing on Lucis when Cor was 12, therefore Cor applied and was accepted into the Crownsguard when he was 13.
After the first battle which would kill a huge amount of soldiers and a handful of other teens from Cor’s old hometown, his motivation turned to revenge, but he was quickly pulled away from his plans and left to stew in resentment over what had happened and how he had done nothing to help his comrades. The urge for revenge was stamped out by Gilgamesh when Cor was finally taken seriously and thrown into a real fight. Cor decided instead he needed a greater purpose to devote himself to.
After that he spent a lot of his time doting on King Mors, and then staying with King Regis, and finally King Noctis. I think he’s been growing and improving himself once he realized giving him something to fight for also gave him something to live for. Even when he got older in Royal Edition I can’t help thinking he was still improving himself, in this case more his tone and mood since he seemed so much gentler. So I think it’s both, it’s something deep, but something he struggles with every day, a huge urge to push himself to be better than he is.)

Tomorrow is a big ass day
So a lot has changed in a very short amount of time.
You are no longer going to SD this weekend for 6.5wk treatment with proton radiation and temodar. You are instead meeting with Stanford LPCH’s superstar Peds neuro team bc ya boi Paul cracked his whip and people got moving!
They thought your tumor type fell under the category of something called ATRT which is basically only found in 0-3yo and there’s like 50 adult cases ever.
But it might still be a rare sarcoma that is just chillin in the brain with the same ATRT mts??? That’s what your current doc and path is leaning toward rn. Which is good bc they have some experience with this type but you’re still rare and special so don’t u worry.
Tomorrow is also your convo with the LPCH fertility team to talk about potentially banking eggs. Maybe there’s not enough time tho. You need 2wks for that to happen and it seems like they want/need to get you on a v intense chemo and radiation regimen ASAP.
So that’s kinda scary.
Idk if I want kids even. But the option would be nice.
I was feeling overwhelmed when nathan started talking about this meeting tomorrow while we were in bed. He has a lot of questions. It started making me feel scared when all day I was feeling super positive and excited to be staying at Stanford.
I asked to talk about good things instead.
He said yes of course.
And he asked me what my dream wedding would be.
I had so much fun thinking about it!
The wedding ceremony would be small, just immediate family, a backyard, super simpy vows, yummy dinner.
Then as I was describing the celebration I want to have with my friends, I realized I basically want a mini obon.
Everyone would be invited. Fam aunties, church aunties, hs friends, ucd friends, ball fam, Stanford friends, old coworkers, jacl friends. Everyone I’ve ever loved spending time with.
And we would have little food booths with my fav types of dishes like taiyaki and yakisoba and spam and udon. And lots of hanging lights and lanterns overhead. And lots of tables or seating for the aunties and people to eat and chat.
Maybe we’ll even put a little game booth lol
And we’ll have an alc booth with mostly just soju and seltzers and beer bc I want soju and I also don’t want people getting too trashed
There will be a big dance floor area too!
And I’m planning on joining the Stanford taiko group and learning how to play. So i want a taiko performance at my wedding.
We’ll start the festival in the afternoon. Nathan and I will dress up. We’ll do a dance together. And we’ll dance with each other’s parents.
And we’ll do a improv story telling of the chicken run and how it was meant to be!
I think people will enjoy hearing it bc mom dad and court sure did. Dad was crying bc he laughed so hard.
And then once it gets a to golden hour and the lanterns are poppin we’ll do obon dancing! The SJ swing performance would be wild. Eijanaika, tankoboshi, hanabi, baseball ondo, shiawase samba, drum dance from sac obon. All the hits!
The party favor could be hapi coats with a dope pattern and say shojinaga and wu on it in English and kanji/Chinese. Everyone would wear it for the dancing.
I think at this point, the aunties will go home and the jams can start playing. No hands, low, pony. The classics for my crackhead friends. It’ll be like Raven but at obon lol. It’d be so fun.
Id want everyone I ever had a game night, threw up next to, cried with, sweat with, or laughed with to be there.
It would be so special.

August is the month the Japanese has a heavy meaning to think about war that brought many victims. At the same time, it is also the month to recollect people who passed away according to the custom of traditional “Obon”. ("Obon” is the Japanese ritual ceremony to welcome the soul of the ancestor from the heaven and to send them off.) Festivals and fireworks to be held during this period include the meaning of prayers to heal the souls of the deceased. __________
Long time no see, dear my Tumblr's friends ! Work and private were so busy in August of this year and I could hardly open my Tumblr :-< But, I also want to start activities again slowly :-D
