starting off strong with madoka magica! rant & heavy spoilers ahead!

i’ve been seeing a lot of madoka magica hate recently, on most of my social media platforms, solely because dudebros love to hate on magical girls, specifically madoka.

“she’s so weak”

“gun level only”

“character x beats her easily”

like alright bro just say you know nothing about madoka and her story and move on. i won’t get too into the details but it’s the fact that madoka, after becoming a goddess, who really isn’t bc she’s a literal concept so she doesn’t exist in anyone’s mind so no one even knows she’s real, who then can literally be anywhere and nowhere at once, due to her being said concept on an (every)universal level; has the ability to REWRITE said universes at a literal whims notice. doesn’t even have to construct the ability she just wills it to be done and it is.

calling her weak when even if she doesn’t rewrite your entire universe’s lore and any abilities attached to said universe, her power scales so beyond she practically one shots everything. and it’s not even like madoka WOULD do any of this! her morals to do good and to BE good are so straightforward and pointed in the morally right direction that she wouldn’t even consider anything a threat.

the only person who is shown to even touch a minuscule amount of her power was demon homura, when feigning death and trapping her in time itself. splitting her from her concept/godlike body. and that ALONE is far more powerful than most characters people pit the magical girls against.

genuinely, i just don’t understand the madoka hate when she’s just as op as any other mc. she’s played dirty solely bc she’s from a “ha-ha” cutesy magical girl anime and it drives me nuts.

I’ve observed that the most popular brands of jerky have - for years - been softening their product to the point where it’s just getting silly now. Like I remember being a kid and damn near yanking my teeth out of my head trying to rip a mouthful off a larger piece and then you had to CHEW for five minutes before you could even flirt with the idea of swallowing.

I shit you not, I just got a bag of Jack Links and took a bite and it just like… melted in my mouth? Like I don’t require teeth to eat this? It’s a really off putting texture as a whole? I just feel like eating “dried” meat shouldn’t be the sensory equivalent to chewing on a wet handful of Kleenex? Bring back real jerky, plz.

one of our customers where i work told me that we should all be using AI to help us write our emails WHILE i was writing an email to him with information he was requesting. he said he uses chatgpt to write all his emails for him. i told him that our customers already dislike the automated portion of our hotline system so much, why would we add another robot to their experience with us. he just laughed and said it was the future and everyone should be doing it. i told him that its not only that, but we have sensitive security information that we legally cannot feed to an AI. he said that made sense. while that is true, the real reason is that im just not letting my computer write my emails for me. im not giving up my humanity to that level. im a writer and an artist, the second i give up creating my art in favor of letting a computer “do it for me” is the second i lose everything that i am.

I think I've figured out why the fact that so many people I know use generative ai to do things like write emails for them bothers me so much is that. Like. You're not even participating in your own life. I get that emails are boring and sometimes even challenging to write but you are communicating with other humans. The words written will represent your ideas and your feelings and you as a person. If you can't be bothered to do that, if you're so far removed from human connection that you don't care if people get the real you or a computer imitating you, then you've already lost. We've all lost.
