alright— !!
starting off strong with madoka magica! rant & heavy spoilers ahead!
i’ve been seeing a lot of madoka magica hate recently, on most of my social media platforms, solely because dudebros love to hate on magical girls, specifically madoka.
“she’s so weak”
“gun level only”
“character x beats her easily”
like alright bro just say you know nothing about madoka and her story and move on. i won’t get too into the details but it’s the fact that madoka, after becoming a goddess, who really isn’t bc she’s a literal concept so she doesn’t exist in anyone’s mind so no one even knows she’s real, who then can literally be anywhere and nowhere at once, due to her being said concept on an (every)universal level; has the ability to REWRITE said universes at a literal whims notice. doesn’t even have to construct the ability she just wills it to be done and it is.
calling her weak when even if she doesn’t rewrite your entire universe’s lore and any abilities attached to said universe, her power scales so beyond she practically one shots everything. and it’s not even like madoka WOULD do any of this! her morals to do good and to BE good are so straightforward and pointed in the morally right direction that she wouldn’t even consider anything a threat.
the only person who is shown to even touch a minuscule amount of her power was demon homura, when feigning death and trapping her in time itself. splitting her from her concept/godlike body. and that ALONE is far more powerful than most characters people pit the magical girls against.
genuinely, i just don’t understand the madoka hate when she’s just as op as any other mc. she’s played dirty solely bc she’s from a “ha-ha” cutesy magical girl anime and it drives me nuts.

Invincible characters react to a naive, humble, gentle black adult madoka reader in her god form and her abilities
(The reader is madoka 18 years old and watches over the invincible multiverse and has awareness of everything thing and everyone in the entire multiverse and every version of mark Grayson and everyone else from both the show and the comics and has been seeing everything that has been going on everywhere in the multiverse and has accidentally landed on earth and chooses to save every one on prime earth as well as still watch other the other worlds too) (the reader is not using her full power at all but only a fraction of it)
Mark Grayson: would be surprised and shock at first by your god form and by your abilities and infinite raw power and the command/ control you have over the universe/multiverse and would actually have a crush on you because of how pretty you are and will be grateful for your help with fight his father and evil versions of himself as well as saving him Anissa and conquest too
Nolen Grayson: Is shock by your god form when you first saw you and how much you know about him, his family, and that you also know about his plans and the Viltrum empire He seriously considers you as a threat and won’t lie you are very beautiful but he can’t let you destroy his plans and after you save mark from him and show kindness without fighting he leaves earth thinking of how much of an angel you are
Thragg: doesn’t care for your kindness and is confused about why you don’t use your full power but is pleased at how you only use a mere fraction of your power to stop your enemies and that nothing proves a threat to you at all and would thank you for your help with bring back his people who were killed by the virus
Anissa: thought nothing of you at first and try’s to hide how surprised she is about how strong and powerful you are and that when she try’s to fight you to test you easily overwhelmed her with your immense strength and mad that you held back and not using your full strength
Angstrom levy: would worship you as a divine being and would be grateful for your help to fix him and his mistakes and gave him redemption for everything he has done and brought his clones back to life and gave them a good life
Atom eve: didn’t like you at all at first because of how beautiful you are and that you could steal mark away if you could and never full understanding about how naive you are and how you help people even villains and monsters with their problems and that your not even using your full power at all and is also jealous that you come from a good place and thinks that you did wasted it on a wise
Allen the alien: unlike everyone else he was not surprised by your form in fact he adores it and how humble and gentle you are and that you don’t want to hurt anyone
Ceil stedman: will consider you a huge threat and will send spy’s to monitor you and keep an eye on you just in case while you are aware of this and allow it

The evil marks: thought nothing of you and thought you were weak to fight them but they soon realized that you are quite powerful and resurrect the ones who had died or turned into a reamiman(sorry if I spelled it wrong) and brought them back to their world’s
Sinister mark: before he could turn insane he thought you are hot and you saved him and the other marks from killing each other in the desert dimension after they were sent there by angstrom levy
Mohawk Mark:would also find you as as beautiful and hot much better then atom eve in every way possible and would thank you for saving him from his death by robot and will be forever thankful to you

oooh! i wanna ask about "unnamed magical girl/superhero world from my dream"!
Absolutely. This is a file of notes that I typed up on my phone in a half-asleep haze after waking up from a really vivid dream.
In the dream I took a sort of observer role, viewing and semi-experiencing the life of a traumatized former magical girl who was attempting to live a normal life and attend college, accompanied everywhere by her ex-team's mascot, a large white rat/ferret thing. The mascot buddy was sapient but couldn't speak and rode around on her shoulder, basically an emotional support companion. She was in some kind of art or writing club, and she had a good relationship with her academic advisor, who was also sort of her counselor and who was working on her with overcoming her anxieties and fears surrounding using her magical powers again--in particular I recall her being encouraged to fly while crossing the street at crosswalks, so she wasn't going very far, or lifting herself up more than a few inches. (This was very much a universe wherein magical powers were a known thing; the impression I got was that it was just, like, a field of study for which some had more aptitude than others, just like gymnastics or algebra or something.) Several times in the dream she was also approached by a pair of teenage boys slightly younger than her who were trying to convince her to come back to their organization and be a magical girl again.
When I woke up, the first thing I did was obviously tell my partner @rudojudo about the whole thing, because we talk out all of our writing ideas together. I didn't want to forget it, you know? And as we spoke I was naturally able to figure out more of the wider context of this world--most of the populated galaxy was legitimately under threat by an ancient evil, which a lot of people were trying to fight. The organization for which this young woman had worked were just extremists who hit upon the strategy of, like, leveraging the explosive power of chuuni tweens and teens who hadn't yet learned yet what was or wasn't supposed to be impossible (or how to restrain and protect themselves) to make great strides against whatever this ancient evil was at the obvious expense of the physical and mental health of these kids they were using up. Definitely some Madoka Magica influence in there, which is super funny since I've never, like, seen Madoka Magica, I've only ever read summaries ages ago. In particularly I really love the idea that this is not a secret organization. They don't have a hidden evil agenda. Everyone knows about them. What they're doing isn't even illegal, because these kids aren't being kidnapped, they're being recruited. There are parental permission slips on file. From my notes in this doc:
Plenty of kids stay with org as adults but many others eventually break with org as they realize “hey this was a fucked-up thing to do to me and I’m kind of a mess about it, and also a lot of these monsters are clearly intelligent people? Let me talk to them and maybe they'll stop being evil?"
Rest of the universe esp. other magical groups view org as, like, an uncomfortable necessity, they do a thing that's pretty terrible but it does work to manage the encroaching evil and look at all these successful adult teams still working with them so really you gotta hand it to them even if you don't like it, right? (Traumatized former members: “You do not in fact gotta hand it to them.”)
The basic point is that my unconscious mind was on some political commentary shit that night and I think it's got some legs.

kyubey's main defense for "why do you cause the suffering and deaths of billions, if not trillions, of children?" is something about how the magical girl system (girls contracting, girls turning into witches, etc) creates energy to combat entropy and the heat death of the universe. while kyubey and incubators as a whole are presented as extremely advanced, logical, and emotionless as a species, this "defense" shows how irrational and paranoid they are.
the universe is still in its "early" years. it is not near its end or even its middle years in any sense of the word. entropy and heat death will not be any concern in the slightest for trillions of years, and that's an absolute low ball amount based on my pathetic math skill guess of the figures. the actual year estimates until heat death i can find all have numbers so large they aren't even written out normally, they're written using scientific notation. a few have said numbers listed like "1.7×10^106yrs (if protons decay)". that is a truly unfathomable amount of time.
yet the Facts And Logic, "why is human thought so irrational?" species is so worked up over this far future event (that is not an immediate threat in any way, shape, or form) that they use their irrational paranoia over it to justify murdering children and causing them to turn into the literal personifications of their own personal misery. "for the greater good" and "the ends justify the means" don't apply when the argument is this backwards.
even if you want to headcanon that maybe entropy was approaching at some point, and they had to beat it back before, which is why they're so worried — it's implied in canon that the present day pmmmverse is in no immediate danger. besides the fact that they'd likely be issuing contracts to literally anyone and everyone if that were the case, all that is said is that madoka witching out caps their necessary quota or something, so they don't need to worry about it for now. this sort of implies that it's not a current crisis, or else why would they stop the second they met this "cap"? why not continue elsewhere to get extra energy?
if incubators are immortal and are concerned for that reason, they have a literal infinite time to figure out a better or more convenient solution. current human theory already has questioned whether things like creating other/new universes intentionally is possible (and seeing that ours exist, "creating universes" is clearly possible Somehow). why not try to contact (adult) humans and exchange information or theories? sure, incubators are supposed to be highly intelligent and almost see humans as cattle, but they've been outsmarted by even human Children before in canon (madoka's wish being the prime example, and that was something thought out by a middle schooler). logic can only go so far, and this is said by someone who, irl, tends to look and act like the -_- emoji when not masking. humans could toss "dumb/silly" ideas at the wall, and incubators could use their advanced technologies and experience to see if they would work. perhaps a solution to escaping the universe/preventing heat death/etc could be found via cooperation, as opposed to "we must murder children because we are scared of something that will happen a zillion years from today, it's not our fault 🥺". many a human idea has been born simply out of "i wonder if this will work?" as opposed to only sticking to logical steps or only doing one thing forever, because you know that One thing For Sure works. even if it's tedious/more trouble than it's worth for the outcome. but incubators do not know or try this, because due to canon implications, it seems their MO has always been "lets murder the populace for miniscule amounts of energy" (as seen by the alien magical girl in one of the games) instead of "maybe we should try to find a solution together".

Thoughts on gender locked magic. Specifically the concepts of Witches. Discussion of gender essentialism and transphobia.
Ok this is a pretty common thing to run into in fiction. The idea that “Only women can become witches.”
But I have always wondered, but Why though? What is the reason only women get access to magic? What about their soul makes that a thing and why is that gender locked to woman as a gender specifically?
These fictional worlds with such a magic system always come with gender essentialism to me. They were not structured to include trans people. More likely because we weren’t a thought to the author.
Would a trans girl suddenly be able to do magic when she realizes? Would she always have had magic? Likewise, would a trans boy suddenly lose the ability to do magic? Did he never have any? People’s individual transitions are so unique, how would that effect their access to magic and how would that not be exclusionary? What about nonbinary people? What are genderfluid people who are women sometimes going to do? It all gets very complicated the moment you consider trans people and anyone whose gender is not binary.
It just strikes me as gender essentialism to say that only one gender has access to magic. I can never understand what in particular makes a character “worthy” of magic because of their gender, If we are going to look at gender with less binary expectations, then gender locking magic kinda goes against that goal.
Why has this cosmic magic or being that gives magic chosen “being a woman” as their qualifications?
If it’s about the oppression of misogyny, there are trans men and nonbinary people who experience that as well with no choice in the matter of how other people misgender us.
If it’s about a specific kind of physical body or genital, then there is no way to make that not exclusionary. If it’s about the trauma that young girls go through (Example: Madoka magica’s answer to this, where that trauma creates Energy to stop the heat death of the universe.) then that *still* becomes trans exclusionary, because there are people whose childhoods may have looked like that of young girls to society but were not, and were still traumatic in extremely similar, or the same ways. (right now i’m talking specifically about trans men and women who came out after adulthood and didn’t 100% know they were trans as kids. Madoka’s system also has no room for nonbinary people. )
The gender essentialist concept of "women are Closer to Nature and More Primal and have Secret Knowledge" also plays into this, and on top of that being something I don’t believe. I don’t think it’s smart to treat any gender as somehow secretly better than another.
Talking a bit more personally here, I did struggle to come out, and one reason because of people, who called themselves progressive feminists(in actuality this was a mindset from radfems), who treated the possibility of me being a boy as some kind of threat or loss. I’m definitely feminist, I want to make that clear. But I don’t stand for any kind of system that treats one gender as better or treats you as some kind of traitor because you didn’t turn out to be a woman.
I think that is the heart of the issue of why gender locked magic hits a sore spot.
The frustration that the experiences I have had, being treated like facets of womanhood. I know I and people like me don’t fit in magic systems like these, that there just isn’t a place there. So that part is alienating all on it’s own. I don’t have fond feelings for this trope. On top of all this, Trans men just aren’t considered in most media. There’s a sense of invisibility to finding representation. That isn’t just what I’ve noticed. Glaad has some stats laid out.
I feel like i’d be more interested in a world with this kind of magic if the point was about breaking and challenging this exclusionary magic system. Or perhaps, centering a transmasc perspective about losing magic because the system is exclusionary and how truly fucked up of an experience that must be in a society that places your value in magic.
Even in the few cases where a magic system is trans affirming to trans woman, trans men don’t seem to exist in the creator’s eyes. I am not going to name where this came from, but it did frustrate me that in a specific world that called itself queer friendly, cis and trans women and nonbinary people could become witches, but trans men got basically nothing. Didn’t seem to exist. A huge flaw in a world I really wanted to like and now just can not engage in without being reminded that people like me don’t belong. I get enough of that in real life.
My personal feeling is “fuck exclusionary magic!” like anyone in these fictional worlds should have the ability to become a witch. It shouldn’t be locked to a nebulous gendered expectation. (It shouldn’t just extend to magic too. Gender locked hair styles and clothing and pitches of voices in games also fall into gender essentialism. “You can’t be X if you look like Y.” Is exclusionary and transphobic, just on it’s own.)

I’ve said it before but there really is no way to truly watch Madoka any more
if you weren’t following week by week making increasingly unhinged theories and having your subbed episodes interrupted by Morning Rescue ad breaks before an Actual Tsunami delayed release on the eve of the in-universe apocalyptic threat arriving, causing Gen Urobuchi to yell on Twitter about how WALPURGISNACHT IS HERE before the triumphant finale hits
then you weren’t really getting the full experience

How does everyone handle Edward's hypocrisy in turning them all (including his daughter who was never one) into humans but keeping himself vampire on the flimsy excuse of protecting them?
Btw, he will not succeed in protecting all 8 of them by himself if a single blood drinking vampire came for them and everyone but Edward knows it. Unless he starts drinking human blood and even then he can't protect everyone in the family.
The time Edward was in a Puella Magi Madoka Magica crossover and got to be a magical girl
Poorly.
Though it's not out of character for Edward and everyone knows it.
Edward has been very verbal about his disdain for vampirism and how he until towards the end in canon believed they didn't even have souls. He views the Cullen lifestyle as a poor substitute for humanity and that of course everyone would want to be human if they could unless they were an out and out monster (which his family is decidedly not).
Edward generally also likes to ask for forgiveness rather than permission and does this several times in canon with other situations.
The point being, the family is not at all shocked that Edward went and decided this for them or that he decided to keep himself a vampire as a form of what he sees as a noble sacrifice. Edward genuinely believes he's doing the best thing he can for his family and that, yes, he personally can ward off every conceivable threat so long as he remains a vampire.
And everyone knows Edward's thinking this way.
Rosalie, who would be the most resentful under normal circumstances, has finally gotten what she wanted and while she's upset she's losing Edward over it (as he has to live away now) she's very grateful for his taking advantage ofthe opportunity.
Emmett would say something but can't with Rosalie right there so he... loves it too...
Esme would never hold this against Edward and isn't surprised given that Edward was given a miraculous wish. She views Edward as the one ultimately losing, here, as he has to give up his family so that they can be human. Esme, I imagine, chooses not to hurt Edward further by pointing out that she never asked for this (at least until the cancer happens).
Carlisle is upset but I imagine would see little point in arguing especially given how much Edward's sacrificed to do this. He wished that Edward had asked first who wanted it and who didn't, and he especially didn't do this to Renesmee, but he's not shocked this happened. There's also a solution for him in which he can become a vampire again. Though this gets strained when Renesmee ends up dying because of this.
Alice is upset but sees no point in arguing when Edward won't listen. Jasper's actually mildly relieved as he no longer has his gift and isn't in constant pain. He thinks Edward should have given everyone a choice but... well... not Edward's style.
Bella and Renesmee are by far the most vocally upset and resentful of Edward choosing to do this.
As for Edward and human blood... he probably does in this universe as in canon he needed the family to keep him on the diet (he couldn't get off the human blood on his own when he tried to return). He'd likely justify it as needing to protect the family from the Volturi and try to seek out acceptable victims again.

Jade Harley from Homestuck would turn into a witch in Puella Magi Madoka Magica!
Cause of Witchification: Already living all in her lonesome in her grandpa's island after his unexplained death, she had nobody but her trusty dog, Becquerel, and her online friends to keep her company. Aside from that, all she was able to do before the events of the comic began was tend to her garden, engage in her little experiments, practice her rifle skills, and explore the kingdom of Prospit through her dreams.
Life within the Medium wasn't so easy, either. After having her dream self sacrifice herself to save John's, the dreams she had experienced were set in the dream bubbles; she was forced to witness the horrifying presence of the horror terrors the first time she had slumbered without her dream self, and is contacted by a dead Feferi during the second. After establishing a conversation with Tavros, he goes on to reveal that it was him who had killed her grandfather to save her; back when she was a little kid, she had almost shot herself with one of her grandfather's rifles, and he had to take control of Bec to redirect the location of the bullet towards him.
Oh, and not only was she tasked to breed the breed the perfect universe frog as the Space player of her team in such a short time due to the doomed state of their session - already causing enough stress as is -, but she had to do so whilst under the threat of, ya know, big bad Jack Noir and the possibility of him slicing her and the rest in half without them knowing. Her sprite was of little use at the time, either, since it was prototyped by using both Bec and the stuffed corpse of her dream self- who was not at all glad to be brought back to life.
Even after all that - after ascending to godhood during the Scratch and managing to save herself, John, and Davesprite from being completely erased from existence -, upon encountering the post-scratch selves of her fellow players' ancestors, she was immediately corrupted by none other than the Batterwitch herself; turning into a nasty, monstrous version of herself who is not afraid to maul her closest friends into strings of flesh. This very corruption, amongst other events, were what kicked off the events of the tragedy that is known as [S]: Game Over.
There's a whole lot that happens, and this is just the tip of the iceberg of the disaster that is Jade's life. Also, her classpect is the Witch of Space, and her story already possesses multiple allusions to the Wizard of Oz; upon ascending to God Tier, she appeared to be a mix of Dorothy and the Witch of the North, Glinda, complete with the ruby slippers. After becoming corrupted by the batterwitch, unfortunately, she had met her untimely end in a manner that directly references the fate of the Wicked Witch of the East; with a house smashing her to smithereens.
#Homestuck#puella magi madoka magica#jade harley#would witch out#we do not acknowledge the sick. perverted. borderline transphobic jokes made towards her in HS^2#Nor do we acknowledge the fact that Rose literally cheated on Kanaya.#Actually- we're just gonna can HS^2 altogether from our minds#Now all of PMMM!Tumblr knows I'm/I was a Homestuck

oh? Don't like Tamers? It ain't my favorite either but usually people like it, any particular reason? Or is it like me with 02, just a general dislike you can't place?
Huh, amazed to realize I haven't actually aired my grievances with it on here before. Peculiar.
So this is absolutely going to turn into a long post, apologies in advance, but the ultimate thesis of fundamental issues I have with Tamers is that it sets out to be a dark deconstruction of a 'Mons series but does very little that's interesting or compelling with it.
(Full disclosure, most of what I have seen of Tamer is the dub version. I have seen a few portions of it in its original Japanese, but not all of it. Due to that, it is entirely possible that some of my issues with the season are better addressed there- however, I have also been told that Tamers was the most faithful dub done thusfar with very little changes made)
I'll try to format into bullets for the sake of cleanliness
-First and foremost, one of the main differentiating factors in Tamers compared to prior seasons is supposedly that Digimon do die when defeated as opposed to being reborn. That's supposed to be a lot of what makes this season 'dark' but I can't help but find it flawed. Characters dying was already pretty important to the first two seasons, even when it came to the Digimon themselves- heck, Wizardmon by himself was one of the most impactful losses in the series overall, and he was never reborn due to having died in the human world. It's hard to feel like this is such an abrupt change to the status quo when it was present in the first season. Not to the same severity, sure, but it feels like far less of a brazen change.
-(Even without straight-up permadeath, the other seasons were still able to have plenty of threats and terrible fates! Even if they would come back later, characters dying was still something treated with weight and sorrow instead of being brushed off. I know it's heavily opinionated, but just having 'and then a character dies' as the end-all be-all bad end starts to feel dull and uninteresting after long enough. I feel like a similar example to this is with the dub version of Yu-Gi-Oh! Shadow Realm jokes aside, it at least offered something a little different as opposed to the more liberal use of killing in the source material. Limitation breeds creativity.)
-In general, I'm just not a huge fan of Konaka's style. That's much more of a personal thing than an actual issue. I think he tends to rely more on atmosphere and dark motifs rather than substance. It feels sort of like his style is an actual example of the mentality that 'Evangelion and Madoka Magica are just edgy deconstructions for the sake of being edgy' that is still alive today, despite the fact that both examples use that deconstruction to say something and make a point.
-(I feel that his work tends to lack a similar sense of substance in Tamers. It's also very hard to not bring up his increasing fixation on conspiracy theories and rallying against 'political correctness' and 'cancel culture' over the last decade or so. While I know those don't overtly tie into Tamers, in hindsight it's easy to see some of those themes in a slighter sense, and in general it just sours a lot of his work in hindsight)
-Explicitly making the first two seasons fictional in-universe made little sense to me. While I don't have an issue with that fundamentally, it's that it completely borks up the timeline when Ryo gets introduced later and how any of that is supposed to work just never gets explained or clarified
-Actually yeah on that note lemme skip ahead and talk about Ryo. I know sixth ranger-types that get added later are common to this series but in my opinion he's easily one of the worst implemented. He might've been neat as a cameo, but he instead ends up being a main character for the last leg of the series. He's a canon foreigner from the Wonderswan games, which only so many people would have been familiar with, but neither his presence in Tamers nor the plot of the Wonderswan titles are given much explanation to get newcomers up to speed on who he is or what his relevance is. He's just kinda here
-He also doesn't really do much to make up for his late introduction and lack of explanation. Really it mostly feels like his main role is to be good at everything, especially in regard to being the one guy that's better at the card game than Rika. While I know a lot of her character development was about learning humility, a lot of that had already been done by the time he showed up, and it feels like an underhanded way of making her appear weaker.
-The cards. I think it could've been a half-decent series gimmick, I mean Xros Wars did something similar and kept it consistent, but that consistency was lacking in Tamers and led it to feel half-baked. The cards served a purpose in a few instances, mostly for evolution, but the modification aspect feels poorly integrated and isn't really used much in the latter half of the season
-The Digital World isn't majorly developed in the story. Which sucks, because I really liked the approach they took to it! It was distinctly different from the Adventure series', being more alien and unsettling. We get information on how it was formed, but I felt it lacked a lot of punch given that we see so little of it.
-The whole arc with the Devas just kinda...stops. We get 90% of the way through and follow them into the Digital World to confront their master (or at least one of them) and then the fight just gets cut off. If we were just gonna be able to have a peaceful resolution and collaboration with Zhuqiaomon anyway why did we go to the trouble of building him up as an antagonist and slaughtering several of his minions. Are none of the Devas especially bothered that several of their underlings just died? Are we going to analyze any implications of their deaths instead of just brushing them off?
-I do love Calumon, I thought his antics were cute, but fundamentally his main purpose was to be a plot trinket.
-Kazu and Kenta were mostly useless to the plot and didn't have much character development, there wasn't much bonding between them and their partners, MarineAngemon was pretty overpowered and it's not explained why a side character is the only one to have a Mega-level as their default partner.
-There are twice as many secondary characters as main characters and almost none of them get much character development. Many times while watching I would think to myself 'why are you even here'
-I think Jeri's arc was interesting in theory, but implemented a little oddly. I felt like her main purpose in the series was to have bad things happen to her and there was a point partway through the D-Reaper arc where it started to feel excessive. I don't understand the point of psychologically tormenting a 10/12 year old for several episodes straight to the point where they try to kill themselves on-screen. She was simultaneously very important to the final arc of the series but does very little of her own volition aside from being a prisoner in need to rescue.
And don't get me wrong, there are things I think the season does very well! I liked Impmon's arc, I like the smaller primary cast allowing for more interpersonal moments and a closer bond between tamers and partners, while also giving the 'Mons themselves a lot more fleshed out personalities compared to the past two seasons (in particular both Rika and Renamon were highlights in term of character development by themselves and with each other), I like the heavier use of computer motifs, and I'm not wholly opposed to the darker tone it tried to go for.
But I think a decent amount of my dislike comes from the sheer amount of praise this season gets. I'd be fine accepting it as a flawed yet ambitious offering that offers plenty of its own original flair, but I constantly see people call it the 'best season by far' pretty much entirely because of its darker themes. I feel it tends to get overhyped for its 'grittiness' despite not implementing it all that well or feeling like it does much meaningful with that darker tone aside from using it for shock value. To me Tamers symbolizes a lot of the internet's tendency to go 'darker = more adult = inherently better than something more 'childish'' so that tends to sour my view of it quite a bit. I just wish its flaws were looked at more often, because I feel fans tend to be a lot more critical of the other seasons and Tamers doesn't get that kind of scrutiny
#suicide tw#oookay that did get long my bad#I am unnecessarily opinionated again whoopsie#I've just seen way too many condescending Tamers fans over the years#I'm sure plenty of them are perfectly lovely#but just let me enjoy 02 and frontier in peace I know they're jank as hell#I'm not here for fucking mozart I'm watching Digimon#ask#digimon#digimon tamers

Hey, question: which is better? The Yashahime anime, or the manga? And why is it so different- did they change all the plot and stuff because the anime had problems or it wasn't' well-received? Just curious!
OH MAN THIS QUESTION twitter still drives me crazy with this one, and it's funny bc once someone brought this up to me to criticize Yashahime but blocked me while i was in the middle of responding to it lmao. i'm gonna answer the second question first then the first one because i have a lot of things to say about it
it's not so much they changed it bc the anime wasn't well received or anything like that- this is a really common thing with manga adaptions of anime originals. animes are a REALLY expensive production, which is why it's usually important for animes to faithfully adapt successful mangas. because if a manga is well received, then by trying to do a faithful adaption they can try to replicate that success and make a good profit. but when an anime original comes first, this changes the dynamic a lot. this is part of the reason The Promised Neverland S2 was such an unholy disaster, S1 was an incredibly good adaption of a very well received manga and S2 completely tried to go in an original direction and it was a disaster.
the more expensive production has been made- so a manga is kind of fanservice if you think about it! so it's actually not uncommon for manga adaptions of anime originals to heavily diverge from the plot! a good example of this is any Yu-Gi-Oh! manga after the original by Takahashi. pretty much all the YGO mangas for stuff like GX, 5D's, ZEXAL, ARC - V, etc all came after the animes and all have pretty divergent plots. same mcs and usually the same settings but sometimes personalities change, they all use different decks, the main antagonist and threats change, etc! i haven't seen it, but to my understanding Romeo + Juliet's manga's plot diverges from the anime. this isn't a universal rule though, Puella Magi Madoka Magica's manga is actually a pretty faithful adaption of the anime!
it's pretty common for these manga adaptions to be like "same characters, similar but different plot" since the more expensive production is already out there, there's not much reason to adapt it into a less expensive form, so the mangakas are often allowed to take pretty big differences in their direction to write "their version" of the story in the hopes it'll attract the same audience who might be interested in a new take on it! so i don't think it had anything to do with the Yashahime anime's overall quality, it was just a pretty standard industry practice. ofc i could be wrong and if anyone knows for a fact feel free to let me know, but that's the norm for these kind of manga adaptions
now as for which is better- there's a very high consensus among a lot of people that the manga is the superior version. the Yashahime anime was plagued with MANY production issues (including, possibly, don't quote me on this, a cancelled s3 due to the company merging which resulted in like a full 12+ episodes worth of content shoved into like three and a half) and a change in directors who had a different vision, whereas the manga has always had a pretty cohesive view of what it wanted to do. Moroha and Setsuna growing up together, Towa's motivations having changed due to her being the one with amnesia, Shiina being able to take advantage of the underdeveloped villains and the strength of one good storytelling telling his vision vs. a bunch of people seem to have really helped it! the anime is unfathomably special and dear to my heart and is my favorite anime of all time despite my many issues with it, but objectively? i would probably recommend the manga first and would say i think it has consistently higher quality (i do need to badly rewatch the anime to compare and contras though)
so yeah, those are my answers! i think how bad Yashahime is is like, extremely exaggerated, but i don't think it's that great either. i would personally recommend you start with the manga and then the anime later maybe if you want more! the manga isn't a flawless masterpiece and updates monthly though: i've heard some conflicting reports saying it's starting to hit near its first half or if its over soon (it does kinda seem like the endgame is in sight), but that's just my personal take! the manga caters a lot more to my personal tastes in characterization and what it means to be good shounen while the anime has more sentimental value to me and especially Towa's characterization there

What does a Composite Ryu look like?
The Death Battle Tournament of Champions has Ryu Vs Goku as one of the choices. It lost to Sailor Moon Vs Madoka Kaname, but it was a close one. But everyone knows Goku beats Ryu, right? That is correct... If we’re talking about straight canon. But this is Composite Ryu Vs Composite Goku. So what does this give Ryu?
Straight Scaling...
As seen with Akuma Vs Shao Khan, Ryu can scale to Akuma. That means he is an Apocalyptic Level Threat who has the potential to wipe out all life on Earth. Still not as strong as Goku, but it is a start...
Non-Canon Stuff...
So in the comics, Ryu has access to a form that allows him to use both the Satsui No Hado and the Power of Nothingness. So he is twice as powerful than Akuma at his best.
Direct Crossover Scaling...
Now here’s where things get real. Ryu fought evenly with Darkstalkers like Jon Tailbain, who can fight people who fight robots who can move hundreds of millions of light years in a short amount of time. He fought evenly with Asura from Asura’s Wrath, who the Vs wiki states at his highest level is Multi-Galaxy. And he even got that Akuma Scaling to ensure he matches all the way. Not to mention King of Fighters and Tekken Scaling. And who knows what Tatsunoko’s roster of fighters bring to the table.
But the real butter comes from the Marvel Vs Series. Able to face Magneto, Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Thor, Dormammu, Mephisto (as a recolor of Blackheart) and Shuma-Gorath. A skilled player can solo the end bosses like Apocalypse, Onslaught and FRIKKIN GALACTUS! But I think the real game changer is Thanos wanting the Satsui No Hado over the INFINITY GEMS! You know, the Stones that can control Reality, Power, Time, Space and all that. Thanos had one of them in his hands, got the Satsui No Hado, and threw it away.
The Marvel Universe is a Trillion Light Years in radius, and that’s ignoring the multiple infinite size comments. And the Infinity Gems were able to protect the universe from another universe colliding in it. So Ryu is packing a lot of power especially since the Satsui No Hado scales to the Power of Nothingness. And that’s with the Direct Crossovers...
Appearance Crossover Scaling...
Smash Brothers, Project X Zone, Family Guy and American Dad, Ryu has been in the most crossovers out of anyone in the Street Fighter universe. He can scale to Guilty Gear, the WWE (with direct links to the Undertaker), Pokemon Deities that are responsible for creating their multiverse, the Power Rangers and pretty much everyone in Fortnite... Which includes Goku. So anything Goku can scale to Ryu can via scaling to him. Granted, this also means vice versa but it shows just how close a Composite Ryu brings into this thing.
But is it enough to beat a Composite Goku? Ignoring Fortnite, maybe? It really depends on what Goku’s crossovers bring. This isn’t just Xenoverse, this would include his numerous crossovers with other anime characters via the Jump Series. But since this match didn’t win, it is not guaranteed to happen. But maybe it could happen...

It is 2am and I'm barely sentient but this thought just came back to me and I need to post it before it goes away forever
I couldn't stop thinking about how ironic it was that Homura went from trying to prevent Madoka from making a contract, to — according to the popular theory right now — being the one creating the contracts? And while yes, it's still deeply ironic, earlier today it clicked for me just how much sense that actually makes for movie verse Homura's arc.
If she's the one making the contracts, she has sole discretion over whether Madoka becomes a magical girl. She decides who fights and who doesn't in her little fake world, and that's like, the ultimate way of ensuring that Madoka is, according to Homura's definition, safe. Or, y'know, I could be wrong and it could be a fun little "hehe contract with demon" thing, but there's no way it doesn't go deeper than that, let's be honest.
Also, fun little aside: poor Sayaka's bandages? I've heard lots of different theories about them and honestly at this stage anything is possible, but if it's Homura purposely engineering things such that Sayaka ends up that way, whether directly or indirectly? As horrible as it is...it kinda makes sense. Like...Sayaka is currently the biggest threat to Homura's universe, as a part of the Law of Cycles that remembers the most of it at the moment. It makes sense that Homura would want to incapacitate her somehow to retain control.
#if u support women's rights u gotta support women's wrongs#(the women's wrongs in question: homura confessing her love for madoka & then immediately entering her creepy possessive supervillain era)#❛ meta: homura.#madoka spoilers#pmmm spoilers#aniplex online fest spoilers

The goddess with pink hair and rose gold eyes
(Hyrule warriors age of calamity x human goddess reader fanfic) (various x reader) botw alter universe
Part 1
( the reader is a powerful goddess with in inner god of her own abilities and was in the multiverse looking over people and when a strange portal opens and brings her to hyrule where she must find a way back to the multiverse and help hyrule’s warriors with their problem against the calamity)
Calm , quiet, peaceful… is what you can call the void I am in as I watch over the multiverse and keep it protected from any thing that might pose a threat to it and I find it interesting that with the entire multiverse and everything in it is at my command and control but I’m not corrupt I just find it enjoyable to watch over it.
I have been keeping the multiverse in order for a very long time and yet still look the same as I did before as I still have the appearance of a 17-18 year old girl and have been caring for the whole multiverse at a very young age since then. And I still have extremely beautiful, long, light pink hair, and light dark skin. Wearing a beautiful, cute, and colorful three layered flowing and frilly pink and sky blue dress (that resembles an alternative version of madoka kaname goddess dress) with tights and pink and white Thigh boots that go above my knees and long finger gloves and on my right hand is a symbol of a big star with 8 sides and 4 dots on the point angles with white wings in front of it and lastly My beautiful yet powerful rose gold eyes. (The rest of the design is up to you if you want) (the star on your hand represents the law of cycle and cause and effect along with everything else. I took the symbol from madoka’s law of cycle)
Oh, and while I do watch over the multiverse I also use my power to summon video games for me to play with to keep myself entertained but my most favorite game the legend of Zelda game series especially the DLC called “Hyrule warriors; age of calamity”
“I love this game so much but I wise I could help them” I said with a bit of an hopefulness but I knew that would never happen.
Suddenly As I turn around to check the multiverse for the one hundred times I saw something that I hadn’t seen before it was a purple and black portal that appeared out of nowhere and it started pulling me towards it as I tried to get away but it was too late as the portal pulled me in and everything went black.
-
A warm and bright light is what greet’s when I slowly open my eyes confused and wondering about what was going on as when my eyes full opened and adjusted to the bright sun above me and the feel of dirt and grass
Wait…sun light, grass, dirt… my eyes shot open and I immediately sit up from where I was laying down quickly looking around my surroundings and saw a pond and crawled over to look and saw how my appearance had changed my dress had turned into a white, small, frilly dress with golden sandals laced up my legs (to which I didn’t like at all) and also realized that I’m in an open field with lots of grass and beautiful flowers and as I stand up I caught sight of a castle not to far way from me which made me confused and started to remember the strange portal that I got pulled into and realized that I might have brought me to a different world so I take a deep breath and close my eyes and try to use my ability to see which world I’m in and not the void. As my eyes were closed and take a calm and focused stance I could feel the wind start to whirl around me as I open my eyes start to glow bright and as I peer through the eyes of a random person and what I see shock and excited me at the same time because the castle from afar had a familiar symbol that I knew immediately as the Hyrule Triforce symbol and I couldn’t help but smile with excitement because I couldn’t believe that I’m in my favorite game?! “Omg I’m actually in Hyrule!” I shout with pure enthusiasm.
After a few seconds I had calmed down and started to think what to do and how to find way back to the void since I had no clue until I hear loud and destructive noises from the village just a few feet away from me and see monsters attacking the people who lives there so decided that I should help them so quickly used some magic and changed clothes I was comfortable with which was a modern long sleeved shirt and style pants along with soft boots and created a pink cloak and put it over my head so that I covered my face so it would be hard to see my face.
As I made my way to the village I see monsters everywhere and the soldiers having a hard time fighting them with their large numbers and some tried to attack me but with my abilities I defeated them easily and help the wounded soldiers by using healing magic as they looked on shock and confusion about my sudden appearance and my ability but I didn’t answer their questions and just started running and fighting the other monsters while helping other people until I found my self outside the gate of Hyrule Castle and turn to see the all too familiar egg shaped teapot laying on the ground powerd down for now and when I approached it to use magic on it to start it without the skein slate(sorry if I miss pronounce it wrong) but as soon as I tried to power it I hear foot steps and turn to see a young man in armor and bright sky blue eyes, dirty blonde hair with his sword drew at me and I recognize him immediately as my favorite character Link.
As we both looked at each other I could see that he is confused and suspicious upon seeing me and my weird looking outfit with my cloak covering my face and doesn’t lower his sword but I didn’t want to blow my cover just yet so I tried to walk away but heavy and loud footsteps caught my and Links attention as we both turn to see a whole group of monsters chasing a young woman with white hair and wearing a ninja outfit she look at us and called for our help while running towards us and ends up tripping over and allowing the shaekin slate to fly in the air. I watched as Link runs forward towards the woman named Impa ( I learned the name with the ability to see the future) as I watched the tablet fly in the sky in slow motion and stare back at the small robot start to power on and the ground begins to shake leaving both Link and Impa confused as I looked on unfazed then a monster try’s to move towards to attack and Link was ready to defend and I start to smile as a huge tower erupts from the shaking ground while Link and Impa looked on surprised and confused. Me and Link turned around to see that Terrako was standing and happily beeping at us and it made me smile even more.
After that “dilemma” Impa was looking up at the tower wondering and Link was keeping an eye on me and Terrako as I played with the small robot with a big smile on my face. Soon Impa turned her attention towards me and started to ask me questions “um… hello there who are you” and “what’s with the weird clothes you are wearing” as Link looked at me suspiciously with his hand close to his sword but I didn’t pay attention to it and was already running with Terrako to the castle with Link and Impa chasing after us yelling to stop. (This is going to be a fun adventure)
I said with a smile.

ALTERNATIVE ALLEGORY: MADOKA MAGICA
Is this just an excuse to use Star Guardian Jinx? Partially, though I’m sort of mishmashing that iteration with some of the ideas presented in Arcane (particularly season 2) and reworking her in a way where she can stand on her own in the MM universe as I understand it. Nobody would expect the brash, confident delinquent called Jinx to have any sore spots, but her refusal to dial back her abrasive tendencies even amongst those who consider her a friend comes from a place of severe self-deprecation, a history of fractured bonds she believes were her fault and the belief that any others she forms are doomed to suffer the same if she doesn’t keep them at arm’s length. Then an offer is given, a contract formed, and a wish granted: "I wish I could stop feeling like I ruin everything." The feelings wouldn't just go away like that; rather, they were healed by a new presence in her life came about. Isha- her family's newly adopted daughter- thought the world of Jinx from day 1, and though she bristled at the thought of being a big sister at first, Jinx came to adore the girl herself. Before she could stop worrying about ruining what good she had in life, Jinx had to find the will to fight to preserve it. She wanted to be a part of Isha's future- no, the future of ALL those she had kept herself from caring about- and she would use her explosive potential to illuminate and blast away the threat of witches to ensure its safety. Her separation from them may make her fiery spirit flicker, but it is not so easily extinguished. She will continue to fight with all the ferocity in her heart for the tomorrow she wants to see.
Let's consider this a starter call for the event! Capping at 3 for now, though any castmates (both LoL/Arcane AND those who are currently part of MM too) will be exempt.
#isola starter call#isola event: alternative allegory#personals dni#Her Soul Gem is over her chest btw (works best with the design and kinda represents a need to protect her own heart)
