Day 3 - Favorite Dynamic
Fuuko and Tatiana! I wanted to put a spotlight them for today since it feels like their friendship’s underrepresented online. Tati is Fuuko’s most significant friend within the Union next to Andy, and Fuuko being Tati’s next to Billy saves her from going with him to Under. It doesn’t always feel like much narrative weight is put into female friendships in the biggest Jump stories, so I gotta appreciate when the effort’s made, especially in a romance-heavy series like this.
other underrated dynamic i like. them. sometimes it takes a lil green guy to activate someone’s Big Bro Instincts

Is loop 101's Phil's biggest improvement on Unfeel actually the ability to retain all 4 of his remaining human senses (as in, the only major damage Unfeel caused was cutting off his human sense of "feel")? I don't think we've seen him eat or express any enhanced sense of smell in loop 100, and among loop 101's Phil's focus was that he can eat the food Sean gave him.
There's no indication that Phil couldn't see, hear, smell or taste in the first place, just that he couldn't speak (presumably because he can't physically feel his mouth to move it properly and speaking is a bit different from moving one's limbs) and most likely lacked tactile senses like texture, pressure, temperature, etc.
Honestly I have no idea how Unfeel was improved in L101 since we got so little indication of how it worked in L100. I've been waiting for Volume 18 to come stateside since I'd expect one of the extras there to go into detail on it
I imagine someone has already found that explanation from the Japanese version, but I haven't seen it yet, and even if I had I can't read it
If I had to guess, though, the main difference seems to stem from Phil's own ability to identify his feelings. We see in L101 that prior to meeting the Union, Phil didn't even believe he had feelings in the first place, so we can assume that was true in L100 too. While we don't know the nature of his L100 tragedy since the aliens didn't exist at the time, we can assume that the drive to save his mother disappeared at a key moment just like in L101
However, even without that feeling, L101 Phil still acted, and in fact still acknowledged the feeling even though the Emotion-Eaters (name pending) could no longer detect it. This suggests that Phil's realization that he had feelings altered his dynamic with Unfeel, and most likely with Entruster as well
We see in L100 that Phil pretty much never acted of his own accord, as he had no reaction when Andy fired his Finger Bullets at the Union and needed to be passively protected by Isshin. In L101, though, Phil is actively making decisions, actively protecting the lives of people he cares for even at the risk of his own life. He did do that at the end of L100 too, but there's no evidence to suggest he wasn't ordered to back then
I believe that what's happening here is that since L100 Phil didn't know he had feelings, he had nothing to give to Entruster and simply became a robot acting as directed by external operators. In L101, though, Phil does know what feelings are, and is able to feel them even briefly before they're negated by Unfeel; in that brief window, Phil entrusts those feelings to Entruster, giving it direction for how to operate, as it's only the feelings in Phil's soul that are negated, not the ones that have been communicated to the vessel he happens to be inhabiting
Like I said, this is all conjecture on my part as Tozuka didn't go into a ton of detail in the series proper, but I'm confident that I'm at least on the right track and the volume extras will clarify whatever piece I'm missing

Do we think Brian (q!Phil's crow on the QSMP) as he sits on Phil's shoulder suddenly pauses, turns his head 180 degrees skyward opens his beak completely and starts spewing random words (chatter donos) in a robotic and gargled way.
Now imagine this during an Order meeting.

Undead Unluck Cinderella!AU: The Masterpost
Hi :3 it's been a while, but i had been non-stop drawing to bring you all the Cinderella!AU cast with UU characters, i will write the basics of the story later bc i'm incapable of writing long paragraphs.
The drawing that made me start this AU
Let's start with our protagonist, Fuuko as Cinderella:
But our dear protagonist needs her mice friends:
We got our mains first: Haruka, Top, Gina, Sean and Chikara, taking the places of Jaq and Gus
I remember that there were mice kids/children, the younglings!
Phil, Bunny, Tatiana, Lucy and Betty (almost forgot her)
Mice! Veronica and Tella are here to take care of them/protect them from the evil cats
With how many chores have to be done everyday around the house, there have to be some specialised mice:
In the kitchen, Billy works with the sweets, Enjin helps with the almost everything (he's too passionate for this job) and Rip cuts the veggies. Yusai can´t be let near the drinks alone, but she always knows the best one for the occasion.
There's so many clothes that need mending and cleaning, the Sewing Team: Latla, Kurusu and Leila, are the right mice to do the job.
(ps. i bet Kurusu and Gina smugled that book to make cute dresses for Fuuko)
Sooo many books to keep clean and organised in this house, good thing Mice Anno Un and Akira are doing their damn best to keep the house library in peak condition, they even have the time to dramatise Fuuko's favorite romance books for everyone
Mouse Feng does everything around the house, why? because he wants to be better than Fuuko in everything
Miscellaneous Mice bcs i don't know in what role do they fit: Grandpa Isshin, Creed, Mei, Shen, Mui, Mui's little brother (do we even know his name?), Ms. Hawkins and Void.
And we can't forget our dear doggo Burn, taking dog Bruno's place
This Au is not complete without some villains
Human! Luna as Lady Tremaine, BUT she's not Fuuko's stepmother, Lady Luna is a distant relative, grandfather's niece and further kinda deal
Lady Luna has three kids:
Big Brother Soul, the kind of person to say "BuT wE aRe FaMiLy" when he does something bad to Fuuko but would absolutely not tolerate any of Fuuko's mistakes
Middle Brother Apocalypse, evil? no, no, no, he's a tsundere, the kind to say "i'm not washing the clothes because i want to help you or anything! it's just that you are too clumsy". Fuuko sees right through his bullshit and thanks him eveytime she can to Apocchy's embarrassment
And Little Bother/Sister Ruin (i'm more inclined to fem!Ruin), she's considerably more aggressive to Fuuko than the rest, her aggressiveness spurred on by her mom Luna and big brother Soul. Apocalypse has tried to help her to no avail.
THE CAT! Why should we limit ourselves to one evil cat, when we can have FOUR?
Shadow hides in the dark corners and stairs, waiting for an unsuspecting victim, putting themselves in the middle of the path to make them trip
Blood wakes up and craves violence, he scratches the furniture, the curtains and people... Fuuko stays the fuck away from this evil cat
Spoil can't be let alone with the food, he steals it but he doesn't eat it, no, he enjoys watching it spoil and the faces of disgust from the people that find his masterpiece, fortunately dogo Burn is always guarding the kitchen.
Seal enjoys watching the desperation in peoples' faces as he slowly pushes the fine glassware from the top drawer to the cold hard floor, unfortunately for Seal, Mouse Feng is always watching
Do you remember the Gran Duke? the poor man was so close to die, but for this AU, we have the Grand Duke and Duchess, Nico and Ichico (Which one is who is up to you)
We got our King! King Juiz, KING JUIZ, KING JUIZ!!!
If you saw the third animated Cinderella movie, you would remember the Queen's paintings, and i decided that we need a Queen (an alive one), salute our dear Queen: Queen Victor!! (do you forgive me for putting him on a dress? 🥺)
At last, we need our prince for this AU, but why have only one?!
Crown Prince Andy and Second Prince(ss) Julia
We need our Fairy Godmother to bring some miracles to life! And i couldn't pick anyone else for this role than my beloved, Spring 🌸
Let him have some fun!!
This is the real last one, but although it wasn't a sentient character, it would be unforgivable not casting Clothy as Fuuko's dress
(Can you imagine what Andy would do to Clothy once he discovers that he's Fuuko's dress? 💀)
That's all the character designs for this AU, and now i can start drawing some scenes for this AU.
Enjoy this AU compiled timelapse for all the designs in the meantime!

Can you tell me more about the negators mapping to fighting game character archetypes? I don’t know much about fgc archetypes but I love UU and this sounds super interesting.
alright so groundwork. Totsuka is a massive fighting game fan. UU is fucking full of references to street fighter already, and he's said before that he wanted to make a manga about fighting games. Dude loves them, so I'm not saying this baselessly. It's to the point where my conspiracy theory is that this started as a hypothetical fighting game roster.
I'll just go through the first few in order and then some notables:
Andy - Shoto. A mixed fighter who specializes at having good tools for any distance. Usually featuring a long-range projectile (parts bullet), a wide reaching mid-screen poke (Crescent series), and an approach option (Fucking flying.) Also, many Shotos have an "install" form, where they unleash a dormant power and transform into a more dangerous, aggressive version of themselves. Come on, dude has a Victor install. Also, "cocky immortal" is a very common fighting game archetype narratively, and one of my personal favorites tbh.
Fuuko - Setplay debuff character. Usually relies on defensive play, mixups, and pokes. When you come to understand the target well enough, you can push your luck, find their pressure point, and land a single glancing hit that applies a debuff that allows you to steamroll the opponent. And like. Falling in love with the opponent and then using that love to understand them is exactly how Fuuko fights. Characters like Londrekia from Under Night are a good touchstone here.
Shen - Chinese stereotype martial artist. This is a common thing in fighting games. Also, they tend to focus really heavily on mixups, forcing the opponent into making bad calls by faking one move and going for another - finding the truth through untruth, as it were.
Void - Bigbody close-range brawler. The dude literally walks into the boxing ring dressed like Balrog from Street Fighter. I mean, come on.
Gina - This is where my theory gets Weird but bear with me. Gina is the bigbody grappler. Grapplers in fighters are slow-moving, highly defensive, and focus primarily on forcing pressure by existing. Grapplers are scary because they don't have to change their position at all to force you to have to play differently. Plus, Gina is associated with her big barrier around her at all times that limits her movement and would make her hitbox larger. Also, her giant Unchange hands are a phenomenal grappler tool. Also, when fighters try to be subversive and make a grappler that isn't a massive guy, they almost always do it by making it a small girl who plays identical to a big guy.
Top - Obligatory rushdown fighter. His new 101 interpretation feels basically tailor-made for rushdown play tbh. Give him a rekka series and we're fucking good.
Rip - Motherfucking CHARGE CHARACTER BABY. This one is entirely because Rip literally has Guile's flash kick and a sonic boom, he does them on screen.
Phil - Full screen zoner. Also the amount of fighting games that have just one extremely weird robot character is absurd, he's basically tailor made to be the obligatory One Robot.
Billy - Copycat fighter. These aren't common anymore, but used to be more common back when sprites were frequent and tracing over another character's sprites was way faster than making a new animation. A character whose entire premise is using other fighters' moves, copying their abilities into an entirely new kit. Mechanically, these characters tend to have weird, disparate kits with a lot of unique options that otherwise would never be on a kit together, allowing them to adapt their playstyle to be the exact perfect enemy to whoever they're facing. Also "bouncing gunslinger" is a very very common fighting game trope, since fighters tend to balance out guns' innate power with weird firing angles.
Juiz - Midrange bait and punish swordfighter. Prioritizes pokes from every angle, allowing you to react and punish everything your opponent can do. Usually calm-collected fencers personality-wise. Maps perfectly to Unjustice's idea - wait until you know what your opponent's intent is, then negate their Justice.
Julia - Protege character who takes after two other members of the cast - being Fuuko and Juiz. Their fighting style usually is a mix of the two, combining their best aspects, copying their moves exactly sometimes, with their own unique aspects in there to show her own persona growing alongside their influence.
Latla - Actively a reference to Rose from Street Fighter. So. Rose from Street Fighter.
Backs - Joke character. You lose to this in bracket, you're going to be posting some real scrubquotes shit.
I can do this for almost every single Negator in the entire manga. The only characters I can't find easy maps to are Chikara, Sean, Tella, Ichico, Lucy, and whatever Unchaste's name was. (this may change if Unchaste actually ever appears again.) But they're all not fighters anyway, they're all support characters or literal children dying of an incurable disease.

I know they're men and this isn't their "uu I'm a boy I don't know how to do stufff" moments, but I'm still taken out by Phil saying he doesn't know where to buy TIGHTS. Literally anywhere??? What do you mean?? Grocery stores have them... Drugstores too... Any clothing store...

Day 2:
I decide to make 2 favorite moments for reasons I ‘ll say later.
My favorite loop 101 moment has to be Andy’s return and the 1 minute fight.
Up until that chapter we have basically zero clue as to Mr Undead’s whereabouts, outside of what I have to call a very misleading shot of him on a camel. Then suddenly, amidst a fight with this huge powerful UMA who gets really close to killing Leila, a random arm flew from nowhere and faceplanted Sick.
With this, Andy with his grin ask for Fuuko’s command and started the best one minute UMA jumping I’ve read.
Andy skillfully calls and commands every Negator available to restrain Sick and obliterating him with Dead Road, then greets Rip and Latla before flying facefirst into a meteor-comet duo is a great way to celebrate a year after him being gone from the story.
One part of this fight I never saw mentioned (likely because people made the connections already but whatever) is that the Andy clone contains so little of his actual Soul to the point where it can only last 60 seconds after landing and only uses physical attacks whereas the Andy on the Sun would probably take at most 3 seconds to skewer Sick’s soul.
It was also this fight that finally allows Fuuko to pursue a Master Rule into its hideout and making her declaration of war against Master Rules not just high talk. It is kinda hard to believe this moment is only 20 chapters ago, and 25 chapters ago we were just barely out of Chikara’s school arc.
Anyway, I had to make a category for the 101th loop, and some could guess why I’m doing this: The best moment of UU thus far for me is obviously, the final minute of Ragnarok.
Before this, everyone pretty much threw everything they had at Sun, with some seemingly push them back ( Chikara, Yusai, Creed-Mico-Phil tagteam, Backs, Andy and the martial arts gang) before getting countered somehow, and Juiz’s sacrifice buying 5 whole minutes, then Victor went berserk.
Within the last minute, the fight to push Sun back or beating them suddenly becomes one to just hold this godly force back long enough for Fuuko to escape as the loss is inevitable. Even the Union’s barrier crumble as Haruka succumbs to her wounds.
From Chikara sliding himself to the Union’s pitfall, Feng’s return after incapitacing Seal (I’m convinced he stealthily used a Soul attack that Seal had no way to defend against) and showing that he cares about what his disciple was fighting for, Kurusu praying and crying in a street corner, the gang fighting Ruin falling down to the Roundtable, to Victor firing his blood beam in conjunction with the staff.
Everyone did one last sacrificial move, be it basically punching God, holding the giant staff in place, blocking with an Untouchable sphere, and using a stasis sight one last time, all for the crying girl less than a meter from getting trampled before the timer ticks 0 and she goes with the uncaring Goddess to the next loop. Honestly I think unless there are actual insane moments in the final arc, this will be the best moment in UU for me.

I think the thing I am anticipating the most with Undead Unluck is actually learning what the f*ck was up with Phil. Like, he is the member of the union we know the least about and drive me crazy with curiosity. Tell me your secrets you little cyborg boy!
Coincidentally, I was just thinking about this earlier today
So I think part of the reason that Phil hasn't gotten his own arc yet is that he's probably a relatively difficult character to make consistently interesting
Given that his entire character is "feels nothing and expresses nothing," he doesn't lend much opportunity for iterations on his characterization; he doesn't have any lines to say, he doesn't have any notable relationships or interactions to play off of, he's just kind of empty
Because he can't express how his backstory affects him, nor is it likely to have even left an impression on him in the first place, there's only so much pathos to be gained from showing us his flashback. It's not like a fight with any given enemy would stir an emotion in him that would trigger a flashback, because no matter what, he won't feel anything
This is why the loop concept is so brilliant; we don't need to be flashed back to Phil's past, we can experience it firsthand and in real-time, right along with our cast! Phil can't feel the pathos, but Fuuko can!

hi kate beanie thank uu for your lovely reply about dnpg's editing from a lil while ago, i'm sorry it took me so long to reply <33 ;o; you've really hit the nail on the head for me with the gen z fast editing and excessive cuts mid-thought, and watching the bubble tea viddy and only a minute in, it's become so apparent that it was the change that bothers me the most ;;; you've helped realise that what i was missing was the pauses and quiet in the old videos, it helped make them so soothing and comforting in a way that feels like i'm just breathing with them. and now that the editors haven taken it away in exchange for quick memes, it's really taken that comfort away and left me wondering why i didn't feel the same comfy joy by the end of the new videos anymore, while instead feeling like i had just consumed another social media content, rather than dnp,, ;_;
hiii :) firstly, thank you so much for writing all of this, and in such a nice tone! i get what you mean, 100%. your conclusion about "time spent to just be" and "time spent to consume" is so good! when i read it yesterday my brain froze for a second with the realisation that you probably worded it perfectly. i would never come to this myself (the consumption part). maybe because i don't perceive youtube content as something i consume. it's never fast for me, since i watch long video essays. but if you compare dnpg's editing to how i scroll through instagram, then yes! there are similarities in pace.
now. about the bubble tea video. yesterday Char @simplydnp said that the pacing of it was better than usual. and after watching it, i have to agree? it is a little bit better, there's definitely some room to breathe. but it still has jumpcuts in the middle of the sentences. for example, at 3:34. either i'm dumb af or we don't hear what Phil says, we only see Dan's edited reaction. and i doubt it was a reaction to Phil saying "it really pleases me". there's a missing shot there (and it's not the only rough jumpcut, i just wanted to show an example). but overall, the editing is chiller than SuperSeizer's usual. which is great, more of that please.
dnpg's pre-hiatus videos are soo slow. no extra cuts or whatsoever. i opened Clickbait not that long ago, and damnnnn the difference is so noticeable, i cried.
