This oneshot is a little different from most I've posted, its not the usual concepts I'd say.
Allow me to introduce you to the ✨️Informant au✨️
Basically an au where I merged Blue's old canon occupation with the current canon one, a lot of thought has gone into this I despise anything that opposes canon so I can promise that the au's make-up is as accurate as I could possibly make it.
Without further rambling, I hope you enjoy ✨️
--
Sypnosis:It was a good deal they had, he wouldn’t need to participate in anything and Colton would ensure his safety as long as the other man got the information he wanted.
Word count: 2.2k

Blue’s head was pounding.
Mere moments- hours ago he was simply on a walk. His bird was resting, he had just finished cleaning his house and found himself staring up at the ceiling, mind blank with nothing to do. He didn’t have anywhere in mind to go to, nor was there really anyone he found himself tempted to b̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ speak to, the silence was irritating but talking to himself felt stupider than he’d like.
After more contemplation, the man decided going for a breath of fresh air wouldn’t hurt anyone, he’d get to go out and walk around, entertaining himself and getting enough of a distraction to shut his brain up temporarily.
The park was oddly empty, much to his dismay, but it wasn’t something he could fix. The sounds of people talking could always be replaced with music, so that was exactly what he did.
What Blue failed to consider was the significance of that emptiness. He didn’t pay as much attention to the shadows moving around as he should have, the rustling of the bushes brushed off simply as just wind.H̶e̶ k̶n̶e̶w̶ b̶e̶t̶t̶e̶r̶ t̶h̶a̶n̶ t̶h̶i̶s̶, h̶e̶ s̶h̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ h̶a̶v̶e̶ l̶i̶s̶t̶e̶n̶e̶d̶.
Lurking, following him not long behind were some old..familiar faces.
Ones he never planned to cross again for sure, but it seemed like life had different plans.
If it didn’t, he would’ve never found himself in this situation at all. Perhaps it was the music in his ears masking the footsteps, o̶r̶ t̶h̶e̶ d̶i̶s̶a̶s̶s̶o̶c̶i̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ h̶e̶ f̶o̶u̶n̶d̶ h̶i̶m̶s̶e̶l̶f̶ d̶e̶a̶l̶i̶n̶g̶ w̶i̶t̶h̶ r̶e̶c̶e̶n̶t̶l̶y̶, but it was too late to do anything by the time he realized who was on his trail.
The moment they noticed he caught onto their plans, they seemed to stop bothering to hide. Blue did little to stop what he knew was soon to follow.
The men were from a gang he had an..unfortunate encounter with some time ago.
That recklessness was mainly what led him to his current predicament, tied to a chair, watched like a prey waiting to be devoured. To say he didn’t know the reason he was there would be a lie, but his body hurt too much to care. They probably drugged him to loosen his tongue again didn’t they?
The brunette didn’t have too much time to ponder about that, his head was clear enough to process the click of the door. The blond in front of him was exactly who he’d expected, it wasn’t much of a surprise he’d rather make a ‘dramatic entrance’ than simply wait for him to wake up, though.
Despite the pain all over him, he noted that was still relatively unharmed. Probably part of the other one’s orders, their deal never truly ended after all.
Neither of them spoke a word as Colton looked into his eyes, all others previously standing around hung left the moment he stepped into the room. Whether they were dismissed or if it was also another part of his orders, Blue didn’t care enough to think about the answer nor did he listen enough to really tell.
Despite not being the leader of this gang, Colton still held power over everyone. As the son of the boss, his words were not to be refused. The members trusted him, those who didn’t faced consequences. It was simply how things worked. It didn’t matter what they thought or wanted, the final say was his.
Nobody was foolish enough to disobey or look for loopholes, until Blue came along, that was. Up until then, he was in ultimate control. The original reason they crossed paths to begin with was quite clear, but in classic fashion, Blue found himself a multitude of loopholes. Unlike most others, he didn’t hesitate in exploiting them, gaining himself complete freedom and safety in exchange for information.
It was a good deal they had, he wouldn’t need to participate in anything and Colton would ensure his safety as long as the other man got the information he wanted. It may have sounded unfair, seeing Blue got protection and had no real ties to the gang. His hands were left clean, c̶l̶e̶a̶n̶ a̶s̶ t̶h̶e̶y̶ c̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ b̶e̶ f̶o̶r̶ s̶o̶m̶e̶o̶n̶e̶ w̶h̶o̶ p̶u̶s̶h̶e̶d̶ h̶i̶s̶ b̶r̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ t̶o̶ h̶i̶s̶ d̶e̶a̶t̶h̶, and he got complete freedom only in exchange for some intel! Easy for someone like him.
O̶r̶, i̶t̶ w̶a̶s̶ g̶o̶o̶d̶ u̶p̶ u̶n̶t̶i̶l̶ t̶h̶e̶ d̶a̶y̶ B̶l̶u̶e̶ s̶t̶o̶p̶p̶e̶d̶ r̶e̶s̶p̶o̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶, a̶t̶ l̶e̶a̶s̶t̶. S̶i̶n̶c̶e̶ t̶h̶e̶n̶, t̶h̶e̶y̶'v̶e̶ k̶e̶p̶t̶ t̶a̶b̶s̶ o̶n̶ h̶i̶m̶. H̶e̶ s̶a̶w̶ t̶h̶e̶ w̶a̶y̶ p̶e̶o̶p̶l̶e̶ w̶e̶r̶e̶ s̶e̶n̶t̶ t̶o̶ w̶a̶t̶c̶h̶ h̶i̶m̶, k̶e̶e̶p̶ t̶r̶a̶c̶k̶ o̶f̶ h̶i̶s̶ a̶c̶t̶i̶v̶i̶t̶y̶, r̶e̶a̶d̶y̶ t̶o̶ s̶t̶r̶i̶k̶e̶ i̶f̶ t̶h̶e̶y̶ d̶e̶t̶e̶r̶m̶i̶n̶e̶d̶ h̶e̶ w̶a̶s̶ d̶o̶i̶n̶g̶ a̶n̶y̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ t̶h̶a̶t̶ c̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ e̶n̶d̶a̶n̶g̶e̶r̶ t̶h̶e̶m̶.
Their breaths being the only sound in the room made his ears ring, though fortunately it seemed like Colton planned to change that soon. Backing away from him, the other straightened his back without cutting off eye contact, it looked like he still wanted to try uncovering all it was that made up Blue. He always found it funny, the way the other would try to intimidate him by trying to make himself look like an equal, like he could read him similar to a book when they both knew that was something that would never work.
“So” he began, “do you know why you’re here, or do you need someone to spell it out for you?” If the man sounded irritated with him before, it paled in comparison to his current attitude.
“I’m afraid you’ll have to elaborate? It’s been a long time since we met you know, I’m in an awful lot of pain and your lakeys weren’t gentle with me either” Blue drew out. They both knew that was a lie, but it was a natural part of the game they’ve long since known to play.
“Recently, one of our most important spies was discovered,” the blond answered. “She was ambushed by a soldier sent by the Justice Reigns minutes after we had her go out”
“And that links with me how? Did you just want to see me agai-”
Teasing the other in hopes of distracting him was a bad choice, Blue was aware of that. The sounds of a gun being loaded graced his ears, though fear remained dormant. This was merely another intimidation tactic, he was too important to simply kill and it would get too much attention if he disappeared at random, especially now of all times.
“Cut the shit. You are the only person who could have known she was there at all, so tell me, what have you been telling that new boyfriend of yours?” he spat.
Blue raised a brow, feigning confusion before it ‘clicked’ in his head. Colton was only getting angrier as time passed.
“Ah, Dream! No no, you misunderstand really. I didn’t know she was there at all, this is all news to me he must have simply sensed her presence and sent someone, Ink is good at following trails after all” he winked.
“I never told you who it was”
“Even a toddler could make a guess and get it right, there are only two people he would trust with something like this and only a spy can take out another without drawing attention don’t you think?”
With that, Colton went silent, seemingly considering something new. Whenever they spoke, he tended to do this if he felt cornered. When Blue disproved everything he suspected in seconds, all of his defenses fell knowing this was someone he couldn’t play to his will.
Not like others, where simple words got to their heads, made them believe he held them truly dear, that he gave a single damn about them in any form. It was entertaining, an addicting play for the man, but despite how beneficial it was for him, how easy it was the first time, he could never replicate it on Blue.
A shame, he’d have been just as, if not more useful if making him stay was just that easy. Colton didn’t doubt that they’d have gotten along if they both agreed to stay, extraordinary talents simply tend to gravitate to each other eventually.
I̶f̶ t̶h̶e̶ o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ o̶n̶e̶ l̶e̶f̶t̶ w̶h̶e̶n̶ h̶e̶ g̶o̶t̶ t̶h̶e̶ c̶h̶a̶n̶c̶e̶, w̶h̶a̶t̶ w̶a̶s̶ B̶l̶u̶e̶ p̶l̶o̶t̶t̶i̶n̶g̶?̶ w̶h̶a̶t̶ w̶a̶s̶ h̶e̶ p̶l̶a̶n̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ t̶h̶a̶t̶ m̶a̶d̶e̶ h̶i̶m̶ s̶t̶a̶y̶?̶ h̶e̶ c̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ h̶a̶v̶e̶ l̶e̶f̶t̶ f̶a̶r̶ s̶o̶o̶n̶e̶r̶, h̶e̶ w̶a̶s̶ m̶o̶r̶e̶ t̶h̶a̶n̶ c̶a̶p̶a̶b̶l̶e̶ o̶f̶ e̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ f̶o̶r̶ t̶h̶e̶m̶ i̶n̶ a̶ m̶o̶m̶e̶n̶t̶, b̶u̶t̶ s̶o̶ w̶e̶r̶e̶ t̶h̶e̶y̶ a̶b̶l̶e̶ t̶o̶ t̶a̶k̶e̶ h̶i̶s̶ l̶i̶f̶e̶ a̶n̶d̶ s̶i̶l̶e̶n̶c̶e̶ h̶i̶m̶ f̶o̶r̶e̶v̶e̶r̶. “If not you, then who? what are you planning”
Simple, straight forward, plain.
Everything Blue expected from him.
“I’m not planning on anything? Why would I do that?” He shrugged. Well, as much as one could when bound down by ropes.
“The only reason I have kept you alive is because you’re useful, it’s just as easy to find someone else who could do the exact same things you do even better so lying and playing this stupid game of yours is a bad idea. I’ve warned you before and this is the last ti-”
“Except you won’t.”
At being cut off, Colton only paused and glared daggers into the other, seemingly daring him to continue.
“You won’t kill me because you know that it’s not that simple, you know that my death is too inconvenient for you now, too hard to fake”
Silence.
Saying that Blue didn’t enjoy the way the other looked when out of options would be a lie, when control was stripped from him and manipulation failed. Without his two most important defenses, his shield fell apart like a house of cards.
For someone meant to be scary, Blue had grown to find him closer to funny.
He was smart, he’d give him that much, but people weren’t his strong suit. W̶h̶a̶t̶ h̶y̶p̶o̶c̶r̶i̶s̶y̶, i̶t̶ t̶a̶k̶e̶s̶ o̶n̶e̶ t̶o̶ k̶n̶o̶w̶ o̶n̶e̶. Growing up in a gang, pressure to be like this from your only parent to prove yourself worthy enough to take his place does that to a man. Not much to dwell on, though, it was his own fault he succumbed to this. If not, then his sister must have been a saint to not fall to the same fate.
That sweet child- Blue had only crossed Camille twice, but it was enough for him to know this was not the place for her. Well, not like it was fit for any kid her age- but that wasn’t something in his control. She’ll get herself out with some assistance, but he wasn’t needed there.
He wasn't really surprised by the way this encounter transpired, seeing the real head of the group wasn't present made things a lot easier for him. For all he puts up, the one in front of him was quite easy to get to. Although that may just be because of how simple it was to get past his walls, a jaded man but not like those types ever posed any issues.
Blue may have been the first person that came to his mind when trying to discern what gave them away, but it was just as likely he wouldn’t be the last.
They had many enemies who wanted to run them into the ground no matter the cost, anyway.
“If the point of this entire show you’ve put up was to blame me for ratting you out, I’m afraid you worked this hard for nothing. I’m sure you’ve figured I want nothing to do with you anymore?”
The blond’s gaze burned holes into his head once again, but Blue ignored him as he had every other time before.
“If you suspect someone to have done so, you and I both know where you should be looking instead” he carried on, “or maybe, it wasn’t an outer source at all”
“Continue.”
Colton’s voice was demanding, threatening, impatient. If it were anyone else, this conversation would have been long over, but unfortunately it still was not.
“You know, I’ve been hearing things”
The other tapped his foot.
“She could have done that herself. At least, that's what a fool may think. The ones you send to watch me are not as discreet as you want them to be, they are not as dedicated as they want you to believe”
“What are you insinuating”
Another way to say ‘choose your next words carefully before I run your head into the ground’, lovely.
“I simply mean that the one who caused this may be closer to you than you think.”
“Something- someone, has infiltrated us?”
Ah, he didn’t consider that, did he? Blue could laugh if not for the increasing tension.
“All I have to add is instead of accusing me of getting her killed, you should be worrying about whether or not I am next”
Bringing attention to his previous involvement with them was unwise, it put both their lives on the line. The brunette relished watching how the other’s expression fell as he desperately tried to piece together a plan, thinking of every possible suspect. That kind of thing was always left to him, the shorter unable to do that kind of thing very well, hard to blame him when all he knew was to dispose of people on the spot and then think, but oh well.
The distraction finally allowed him to untie the knot positioned right above his hands. Terrible craftsmanship, he must say.
His wrists burned by this point, adding to just how uncomfortable he felt in his body at that moment though for a different reason than usual, for once.
He dug his own grave getting involved with this group of individuals, but he will not let them take him to it.
--
No, Camille isn't a canon character. No, she doesn't have much plot relevance, Asuka and I thought Colton needed more to his family dynamic and its beneficial for writing purposes so we decided to have her exist only as a plot device. Noooothing more-

Realization (Apple Twins’ Birthday Special)
***
Warnings: Fighting (brief), past violence/abuse?/blood, implied self-harm (light)
Synopsis: Nightmare breathed deeply through his nose, his head resting on his hand, his single eye blew wide.
This... this was seriously the worst.
How did he not realize how wrong his thoughts were? How... foreign they were to him? How did he not realize how out of character he was being?
And most importantly, when, and how did he turn into such a monster?
***
This was awful.
No, awful was not even the correct word to describe this situation, perhaps “the worst” was better.
Five hundred years.
Five hundred years of tormenting everything and everyone who came on sight.
For five hundred years, he had done enough things to put even the renowned ruler of hell to shame.
Nightmare breathed deeply through his nose, his head resting on his hand, his single eye blew wide.
This... this was seriously the worst.
How did he not realize how wrong his thoughts were? How... foreign they were to him? How did he not realize how out of character he was being?
And most importantly, when, and how did he turn into such a monster?
As he walked, he could hear the whispers of the villagers, loud and clear. If they knew he had superhuman hearing, he did not know, perhaps the fact he could hear them was on purpose. It did not change how he felt about the whole situation in the slightest.
“It’s that cursed child again...” As his presence was slowly noticed, a woman hid her child’s eyes as she quickly led them back home, shutting the door locked. “What is he doing here? Did we not make it clear he was not welcome here?”
He gripped the book in his arms even tighter, speedwalking to his destination. He wished he could just tune out their god-awful voices.
“Are you sure that’s the same guardian of negativity everyone is talking about?” Someone whispered to another person lowly. “He looks weak and quite honestly pathetic.”
“That’s what he wants you to think!” The other person sneered, sending a death glare to the child. “He takes this appearance and acts all shy so you can let your guard down!”
“If you do that, he’ll reveal the worst monster you’ve ever met.”
That could not be--
“Boss?” A familiar voice suddenly called out from outside the door, knocking. The noise jolted Nightmare out of his daydreaming, blinking. He was still sitting on his bed. “Are you okay? I was supposed to report to you fifteen minutes ago, but you were not in the throne room...”
“Apologies, I’m here.” He responded, shaking the thoughts out of his head, and standing up. He opened the door, and the first thing that hit him was the fresh wave of vague despair that made his tentacles behind sway in content. He frowned; it felt so... wrong.
Empty black holes from where several tear strains filled with tar stared up at him, an equally cold grin stretching the man’s lips. Killer. He was flipping his knife in the air, catching it before it fell to the ground and continuing the action until Nightmare started speaking.
He remembered liking the way he would receive a fresh wave of pain when he would purposely mess with his hand, making him unable to catch his knife in time and ending up stabbing his palm.
From where he was, Nightmare could still see the fresh scars on his hands.
It used to amuse him but now, it was just sickening.
He felt like throwing up.
“You should stop playing with your knife.” The younger one nodded, his knife dissipating as soon as the order was given. “So, about that report?”
“Dust and Horror are on their way to Sciencetale to retrieve the tools you’ve bought like you told them to.” He explained flatly, his smile becoming more disturbing the more he talked. “As for me, I wiped out that village in TimeTale as you asked, they didn’t know anything about the attack on one of our bases though.”
Nightmare sensed a mini spike of disappointment in other as he mentioned his genocide. But it had an odd feeling to it.
Of course it would feel strange.
Nightmare robbed him of his ability to feel emotions as he should.
The thought made him gag, making his subordinate raise an eyebrow.
“What’s going on with you, boss?” He looked at him, quizzically, his hands in his pockets. “Oh, is it because I covered my scars today? I can--” He began rolling up his sleeves and Nightmare stopped him immediately, frowning.
The hints of blood could already be seen and picked up in the air.
“There would be... no need for that.”
“Okay?” He let his sleeve fall back over his palm again. “By the way, Dust called me a few minutes ago and said that they stumbled upon the Star Sanses, should we get going?”
“The Star Sanses...” Nightmare repeated, an image of a beaming Dream coming to mind. He froze, his eyes widening in horror as he realized the last time, he had ever seen Dream being happy was more than four centuries ago.
And that he was the main reason explaining that loss of happiness.
“They said you were a monster?” A younger Dream in a bright sky-blue blouse repeated, looking both offended and horrified. “How dare they say that about you! They certainly have not a shadow of a clue as to what they are talking about!” His cheeks puffed in anger as he crossed his arms around his chest.
“I will give them a piece of my mind!” Dream stood up abruptly and Nightmare had to tug him back down by his sleeve, fearing they might blame Dream’s sour on him again.
“That... won’t be necessary...” He sighed as Dream sat back down.
“But we can’t just let them say that about you!” Dream argued, eyebrows furrowed.
“It doesn’t matter what they say.” A voice at the back of his head was telling him off for lying to his face like that but he ignored it, focusing on Dream instead. “Do you think that of me too?”
“Night!” Dream called, looking upset. “Of course I do not think that of you! To me, you are the best person and brother in the world, you are nowhere near being a monster.”
Nightmare smiled softly. “Then that is all that matters, I could not care less m what other people think of me. If you still like me, nothing else matters.”
“...” Killer tilted his head to the side, the more time passed, the more confused he was.
“Boss?” Nightmare shook himself awake again.
“Tell them to retreat.” Killer’s eyes blew wide open, or rather, they would have been if they were visible and not covered in some sort of tar.
“What?” He shouted in response to this unexpected order, this close to putting his hand on the other’s forehead and checking if he had a fever.
“You heard me.” Nightmare waved his reaction away with the back of his hand, walking past him toward the kitchen. “I want them back in the castle in ten minutes.”
“I uh... okay??” Killer confusedly confirmed, watching the other walking away.
Once the two others were back, he was going to snatch some med from the infirmary. This was not true; surely there must have been a fever dream intervening.
***
“What the fuck are Boss and Killer doing?!” Dust screeched as he jumped in the air, avoiding one of Blue’s attacks and instructing a Gaster Blaster to fire at him. The target in question easily stepped away from the laser beam, replying with another wave of blue and orange bones. “We need back-up over there!”
“Don’t ask me!” Horror shouted back from behind a tree, trying to avoid getting hit by one of Dream’s glowing blue arrows that moved at an impressive speed. He clenched the phone in his hand, impatiently waiting for a new pop-up notification.
Suddenly, he was quite thankful for the fact Dream had no intention of killing any of them. It was obvious that he was only firing all these arrows to keep him from moving and potentially attacking.
If he actually wanted him dead, he would already be ten feet underground.
A new ding.
He looked down at the screen.
And a screech escaped him.
“WHAT?!” The shout was so loud that it even interrupted the flow of arrows, by a millisecond yes, but it was still incredible that it did. Meanwhile, Blue and Dust have stopped fighting altogether.
“What is it?” Dust shouted, slightly worried that they were not coming in the end.
“... BOSS IS ASKING US TO RETREAT.” Blue’s jaw dropped to the floor as Dust choked from surprise, victim of a sudden violent fit of coughing.
“SAY WHAT NOW?!” Even Dream was stunned from shock at the words, his rain of arrows stopping altogether as the last glowing projectile landed in the muddy ground, dissipating in a mess of electric blue particles.
The couple looked at each other in disbelief, Blue silently asking Dream as to what they should do. After all, he was the leader so he should be the one to make the calls.
He told him to stay put for now and observe the situation.
Seeing that the arrows had finally stopped going after him, Horror leaped out of his hiding place, axe in hand to show Dust what he was talking about. He shoved the device in the other’s face and the latter’s eyes squinted at what he read.
There was no misunderstanding possible, Killer wrote right and clear that the two of them were to return to the base in the following ten minutes.
They looked at each other before shifting toward their enemies, who seemed just about as lost as they were.
“I... guess we’ll see you two in our next battle??” Horror said, awkwardly waving.
“I suppose?” Blue scratched his neck, at loss for words.
“And uh, happy birthday Dream.” Dust added.
“Thank you?” A long and awkward silence.
“... I think we’re going to go now.”
“Right, goodbye.”
Dust opened a portal and the two of them hopped inside, leaving Dream and Blue frozen in the same spot. Eventually, Blue managed to sigh.
“I’m sorry about our date Dream, if I knew that things would end up like this...” Blue shook his head, feeling a migraine already settling in. “What even was that about?”
“I wouldn’t be about to tell you either...” Dream whispered, lowering his head. He smiled as Blue intertwined their hands and squeezed his in an attempt to comfort him. “But perhaps... He wanted to have a peaceful birthday for once?”
“Maybe.” Blue shrugged, planting a kiss on his cheek. “Either way, I’m happy to spend time with you.”
“As am I.” Blue tugged him toward a portal leading to a world of stars.
“Come on, we can still save that date and go admire the stars.” He enthusiastically exclaimed, Dream letting himself be dragged inside it.
Lowly, he let out a single sentence.
“Happy birthday, Nightmare.”

Out of curiosity, what exactly happened when blue went to nightmare to ask if he could join the bad sanses? Like did they fight at first? Did nightmare taunt blue prior to him asking? Like what happened?
Probably something like this 💞

I’d like to think that Nightmare was partially the one that sought Blue out in the first place 🤗
After all, as a general headcanon I have for Nightmare is that he loves to collect broken things

Surprised Invited (Christmas Special)
***
Merry Christmas everyone!
I kind of did Dreamberry dirty last year at Halloween so I think they deserve some kind of closure this Christmas so have some fluff!
Enjoy your reading!
***
Warnings: Hurt comfort, self-blaming, strong language, brief mention of violence... what else is there actually?
Ships: Kolour and Dreamberry
Synopsis: “Killer, Dust and Horror, while excellent warriors, are but a little obstacle to get through.” He put his hands on his hips, raising an eyebrow. “Do you see me weak enough to be defeated by them?”
“Of course not!” Blue shot up, almost offended that Dream thought he was underestimating him. “It’s just... wouldn’t it be better if you were to spend Christmas with Papyrus and me?” The idea was so sudden and unexpected that it left Dream speechless, eyes wide.

“Are you sure it’s okay for me to go back home for Christmas?” Blue asked, a worried frown on his face as he stared at the usual polite smile on Dream’s features. That smile never let anyone know what was actually happening in that head of his but today, it only seemed to underline the idea that something was wrong.
However, the other did not seem to want to talk about it, preferring to nod. “I am certain. You know, way before you and Ink came to my aid, I was perfectly capable of holding my own against Nightmare, so you really have no reason to worry.”
“But now he has a team...” He tried to protest but Dream shook his head before he could further comment on his train of thoughts.
“Killer, Dust and Horror, while excellent warriors, are but a little obstacle to get through.” He put his hands on his hips, raising an eyebrow.
Seeing that he was not going to react to his speech yet, Blue kept talking. “I’m sure he wouldn’t mind! Besides, you really do need a break and--” Dream held up a hand while the other was used to rest his forehead. Blue closed his mouth, waiting for his answer.
“... I appreciate the thought.” He began, sighing. “However, I believe it would not be wise to proceed that way. I need to travel a lot to avoid Nightmare finding me and staying in one place for an entire day is dangerous for both the universe itself and its inhabitants. You would not want to put your peers in danger, would you?”
Blue lowered his head. “Well, no.”
“Besides, Christmas is a time to reunite with your family so you really shouldn’t let anyone intrude on that.” He smiled sadly. “After all, you never know when they could be gone or when the next time you’ll have the opportunity to see them again is.”
Blue’s frown deepened as he stood up straight again. “Dream...”
The other patted him on the head. “I appreciate the concern but again, there is no need to worry. I have long since accepted things could not always go in the way I want it to.”
‘It never does.’ Blue wanted to retort but he held himself back.
Dream retracted his hand and that’s when Blue had an idea, he apologized to the other in his head as a wide smile spread on his face. “Then, would it bother you if I were to go back when the party would begin?”
Dream, clueless about the plan Blue just made up, only tilted his head to the side in confusion. “Would it not be better if you were to go back earlier? I heard mortals had a lot to prepare before--”
For once, Blue was the one who cut him off. “I still haven’t bought him a gift and they sell better items around the multiverse than in my world. Besides, I want to wish you merry Christmas too, is that a problem?”
“...” Dream looked away. “Not quite no.”
His smile widened. “In this case, I’ll speak to you again in a few days!”
***
The 24th of December finally turned up.
As discussed, the duo met up again on this fateful day. They both bid each other goodbye as Dream opened a portal to Blue’s home, after this, they would not see each other again for a good moment.
Or so, that is what Dream thought.
Just as Blue turned to the golden rift and was about to step into it, he suddenly pointed to a place behind Dream. “Look out, Nightmare!”
Obviously, hearing that, the other turned around quickly, summoning his weapon at record speed, and already charging an arrow as he questioned how he had not felt the other’s aura yet.
However, there was no one when he turned around. He made a noise of confusion.
“Blue, there isn’t-” The next thing he knew, the latter had grabbed him by the wrist and jumped into the portal, him being dragged into it by default.
***
Blue landed on the snow with a soft crunch, almost gracefully, while Dream tumbled out of the portal and missed faceplanting into the snow by a single step. Dream had placed the portal in a remotely deserted area to avoid causing suspicion, after all, most people were not supposed to be aware of the multiverse’s existence in the first place.
Dream was still in shock when Blue tugged his arm to walk with him toward the main part of the town.
It is only when he felt the first pangs of his empathy acting up and attracting all different emotions that he finally snapped out of it, realizing with horror what Blue was doing. “Blue wait-”
Too late, they had already stepped into the busy street.
Recognizing the man with the bandana, a few people came to greet him. “Hi Sans, merry Christmas! How have you been doing?”
And as Dream tried to discreetly leave the conversation, Blue would hold him by the hand, forcing him still. “Merry Christmas to you too! It has been great; I think Papyrus will like my presents too!”
“That’s great!” Dream could only hope that they would not notice him, too busy talking to the other. Of course, as if on cue, their eyes turned to him. “Oh, who is this? I’m sorry, I don’t think we’ve seen you around yet, who are you?”
Dream cursed inwardly. “It’s of no issue, my name is Dream.”
“What a pretty name!” One of them said before turning back to Blue. “Why did you never introduce us to your friend Sans, he seems like a pretty fun person to talk to!”
“He’s my boyfriend actually.” Hearing that Dream choked on air as the two others gasped.
“HE’S YOUR BOYFRIEND?” One of them yelled, attracting other people’s stares. Dream wanted to scream, now that most people had noticed his presence, it was going to be hard to get away without seeming suspicious or alerting anyone to his foreign origins.
The worst part is that Dream could easily tell this was all part of Blue’s scheme.
“Sorry but Paps is waiting for us, see you two around!” Blue quickly dismissed them after the bomb had been dropped, teleporting them both to his house before anyone else could react and try to stop them from leaving.
The guardian of positivity didn’t even try to protest this time, now well aware that any opposition would be in vain.
His subordinate turned back to him with a proud look and Dream could not help but laugh in disbelief at what had just happened and the general silliness of this whole situation.
“Well, if you wanted me to stay that badly you should have just said so instead of kidnapping me.” He said that with a scolding tone but the smile he was showing contrasted vividly with that idea. “I suppose it would not hurt to spend a few hours here...”
“I was hoping you would say that.” Blue grinned, leading him to the couch. Opposing it, a TV decorated with Christmas lights with a little Christmas tree standing a few feet away from it. At the top of that tree was a bright artificial star that switched between a blue and a yellow hue. “Paps shouldn’t take too long to arrive now. You don’t have to worry about anything, I’ll take care of the explanation.”
“If you say so.” Dream leaned back onto the couch, trying not to show how worried he was about this ordeal. Though, even if he did not show any sign of it, Blue must have guessed he was anxious because he responded to his main concern at the moment almost perfectly.
“If you are worried about Nightmare, you really should not. I asked Color to help me with distracting him.” Dream’s eyes widened as he twisted his neck to look at Blue.
“You did what?” He blinked, trying to make sense of what he had just heard.
“Yeaaah...” Blue laughed, recalling the interaction.
***
After parting with Dream, the first thing Blue did was to call Color.
“Hello?” The other picked up after the phone rang twice, a vague voice that Blue assumed to be Delta could be heard in the background cursing out someone’s mother. “What do you need, Blue?”
“Sorry to bother you Color,” He started, fiddling with his scarf. “But there was something that I wanted to ask you...”
“Yeah?” The shuffling of clothes could be heard on the other side of the line. “What’s up?”
“So basically, I want to spend Christmas with Dream, since he desperately needs a break, but I do not want to have my universe being obliterated by Nightmare, so I need you to distract him that day. Is that okay with you?” He finished and a little silence ensued, before being broken by a hum.
“I mean, sure but it’s going to be hard to take him on head on plus--” He was soon cut off, Blue pretending not to have heard him start speaking.
“I heard from Error that Nightmare was planning on messing with Killer’s soul again that day too since that event would bring back good memories for him--” he said, waiting for the other to process his words.
“HUH?! يلعن شكله ان الشرموطة !” He yelled; the outburst was so sudden a terrified Delta could be vaguely heard asking why he was so angry all of the sudden.
“You’ve switched languages.” Blue tried hard to stifle his laughter, barely succeeding. He had never heard anyone use this before and it was both terrifying and absolutely hilarious. Thankfully, it seemed Color was too caught up in his anger to notice anything.
“I’m going to kill that fucking bastard I-” The rest of the sentence was lost, the other speaking too fast for anyone to really understand him. Though eventually, he did take a deep inhale to slow down. “Say no more, I’ve got the situation covered.” He still sounded pissed.
“Alright, thank you!”
***
“It’s a funny story that I will tell you of later.” Dream raised a brow but did not question him any further.
Then, the front door opened to Blue’s brother who just finished stepping on a recently lit cigarette. His eyes locked on Dream before he sent a questioning look to Blue.
***
As the night went on, Dream found himself simultaneously enjoying the change of pace for once and being the victim of a strong melancholy that wrapped itself around his soul and squeezed harder each time Blue and his brother interacted.
Again, he could not help but feel as if he were intruding.
He should not be here.
That held especially true when Papyrus came back from the kitchen with a Christmas pastry and gave him a slice.
Blue and Papyrus should be able to spend their time together as they wished.
Why was he--
Just before he could tell himself anything else, his phone let out a big beep that had him and his hosts jump. He quickly retrieved the device from his pocket, the name Ink appearing in big font on the lit-up screen with a big picture of said man in a circle.
He excused himself from the table, standing up. He picked up the phone, vaguely hearing Ink on the other side of the line.
“Dream we kind of need your help right now Nightmare and Color are having a fight--”
“DIE, YOU MISERABLE SLIMY SON OF A BITCH!” Came a furious Color, his voice somehow being even clearer than Ink’s. The sound of an explosion echoed in the background.
“KILLER!” Then came an equally furious Nightmare. “NOW IS NOT THE FUCKING TIME TO SIMP FOR THE ENEMY.”
“But he’s so cute when he’s mad <3” Killer yelled back, Dream able to imagine the heart-shaped eye lights in the black void that served as his eyes.
“TORTURE CHAMBER WHEN WE GET BACK.”
“No regret <3”
“TOUCH ONE SINGLE STRAND OF HIS HAIR AND I SWEAR TO GOD THAT CRUSTY ASS OF YOURS ISN’T GOING TO BE THE ONLY THING YOU’LL BE LAMENTING ABOUT.”
“E X C U S E Y O U ?!”
“Colooouuur, I love yoouuuu <3”
Dream coughed awkwardly, thinking that maybe he was not supposed to be the witness of that interaction.
“... Anyway,” Ink started, making Dream focus back on the current discussion. “Could you help us out?”
“Of course, I’ll be here as soon as possible.” He said, hanging up just at the right time to hear Error howling from laughter.
He sighed, turning back toward Blue and Papyrus. “I’m sorry I have to leave because--” He paused, just now remembering that Blue’s Papyrus was not aware of the multiverse’s existence.
“Because...” He had to find an excuse and fast.
“I... need to join my brother.” That was the best one he could come up with and while it was not technically a lie, he still felt a pang of sadness squeezing his soul. He could most certainly feel the concern radiating from Blue, but he chose not to pay any attention to it as of now.
His Papyrus nodded, understanding. “That’s completely fine, family should come first after all. It was nice to talk to you.”
“The pleasure was mine.” He hesitated but finally summoned what seemed to be a plasma lamp. In reality, it was an item that diffused positivity in the form of light but of course, that would be too complicated to explain to someone who had no clue how that worked. “I know it is not much, but I at least wanted to thank you two for showing me so much hospitality.
He could not remember the last time someone had treated him so well in the past years.
Papyrus seemed surprised but accepted the gift, nonetheless. “Thank you, even though you did not have to. Stay safe.”
“... I will.”
Blue stood up from his seat. “I’ll walk him out.” He shared a knowing glance with his brother before accompanying Dream to the house's entrance.
Once they were there, Blue stopped him from going any further by grabbing his shoulder. Dream turned around; eyebrow raised. “What is it?” He did not want to sound rude, but his patience was really being tested today, he could not help it.
“During Christmas time, we have the habit of giving people gifts to celebrate.” He began, teleporting two puppets in his hand. The two dolls were holding hands, both wearing Christmas clothes with one of them wearing a golden crown and the other a blue bandana on its neck.
Dream smiled fondly at them as they were passed down to his hands. “Merry Christmas.”
“I appreciate the explanation, but I was already aware of it.” Similarly to Blue, he teleported a little star pin in his hands that he then proceeded to attach to his bandana.
Blue seemed taken aback, staring at the little pin with wide eyes. “Merry Christmas to you too, Blue.”
He attempted to say something, but the words soon got caught in his throat when the other disappeared from sight. He blinked a few times, chuckling.
One of his fingers traced over the garment, looking up at the fake sky above him.
“Thank you.” He then went back inside.
