There’s so much extremism nowadays.

It’s either everything or nothing.

One example I guess that can be drawn back to this site (or I guess just the creative community in general) is creating content.

Why is it always “everything vs. nothing?”

Yes, it’s worrying some conservatives in power are banning iconic literary works such as “Catcher in the Rye”, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, etc. as well as the exploration of darker topics and queer works. If a work simply makes them uncomfortable, they want it annihilated from existence.

However, it’s stupid to pendulum swing to the extreme opposite, believing there shouldn’t be any rules or boundaries.

This right here is true nuance: Banning literary works has been used to censor and silence history, education, minorities (queer, neurodivergent, POC), uncomfortable topics and differing opinions. However, misinformation and simulated abuse for titillation isn’t needed and is a detriment to the masses, only creating a space for normalizing, excusing and even enabling harmful behaviors by feeding harmful attractions and addictions.

And the misinformation part? Ignorance isn’t harmless. An example of this is when a doctor pulled “vaccines cause autism” out of his ass, which is still a “fact” that has stuck with many to this day, being one of the deterrents for vaccinations. Of course there are more examples (eugenics, homophobia, outdated medical remedies& more) but I’m too lazy to go into thorough detail about all that.

Anyways, tldr both can be true at once: we shouldn’t ban everything or allow everything without any restrictions in any regards in life.
