On the one hand I’m loving that the anti-proselytizing bill submitted by UTJ has Israeli secular ultranationalists, Israeli Ultra-Orthodox chauvinists, and American evangelicals at each others’ throats (especially the stunned protestations of betrayal from the evangelicals!). On the other hand, I must reluctantly admit that the bill as I understand it would restrict religious freedom in Israel in a way that seems bad. On the other other hand, I’m not looking forward to sanctimonious protestations about the beauty and importance of allowing proselytizing (possibly from mainstream American politicians), a practice I find offensive.

I will say up-front that I haven't kept up with this particular issue. I am of course against proselytizing to Jews anywhere in the world and in concept agree with Israel banning it, though I fully accept that that is exactly the sort of law that could wind up having massive unintended consequences and cause more problems than it solves.

When it comes to Israeli social and legal issues, nearly every example you look at is "this system is annoying and unfair, and people who really need a manageable work-around can find one, and trying to charge up the middle with a wholesale change would be worse." That's the baseline standard. It is incomparably worse now.

Pagi ini dikejutkan berita duka kepergian seorang rekan, senior di FPsi UI bang @andriis_personal lama sekali tidak bertemu dan berkontak sejak lulus 23 thn lalu. mulai tersambung lagi via FB n IG krn ybs berbagi karya fotografinya di media sosial itu. Sedikit cerita ttg bang Iizh dan kami A95 Psi UI. medio 97an, sy menjadi koordinator kelas IBD asuhan alm bang Noel. Salah satu highlight kelas IBD adl pentas kesenian di Balairung UI. Nah utk pementasan ini banyak sekali tekanan2 dr senior krn konon psi UI selalu dpt gelar juara. Angkatan kami dibagi menjadi dua kelompok n tetap dlm tanggung jawab korlas. Ada dua cerita yg akan dipentaskan, dan mmg pentas IBD ini memakan banyak waktu, biaya, tenaga dan mental teman2 semua. Saat hari2 pementasan mendekat, kita kebingungan utk membuat master recording krn utj pementasan tidak mungkin kita mengandalkan rekaman dari suara mini compound double cassette+creepy microphone. Di saat itulah bang Iizh menawarkan bantuan utk rekaman di studio RRI Bogor. Kebetulan saat itu beliau menjadi penyiar di sana. Fyi Iizh selain jadi penyiar juga multi talenta dan salah satunya adalah pemusik pro. saat itu kyknya Iizh juga sudah jarang beredar di kampus, mungkin krn kesibukannya juga. Jadilah kita berangkat ke Bogor pulang kuliah, seingat sy dg @narotamax @swastikanohara @ramathaharani @rosalynnpasaribu @bagus_adiputrayadnya siapa lagi ya…mungkin @stevanustata @mementoes juga. sampai di bogor kita recording sesuai skenario. Iizh juga byk memberi input bahkan suaranya pun turut direkam dlm salah satu adegan. Singkat kata sampai malam kita di studio RRI Bogor n akhirnya selesai juga rekaman itu utk 2 cerita. Kemudian tiba saatnya pementasan, n tak disangka tim IBD psi UI 95 bisa mendapat juara kalo tidak salah ada 2 piala yg kita bawa pulang, sekaligus menorehkan rekor baru yg tidak bisa disaingi senior nyinyir wkt itu :) Sayangnya baik master recording hilang entah kemana hanya tersisa foto angkatan ini sesudah pentas..
