tonight i am thinking about @satellitesoundwave's idea of a taraprowl soulmate au where the name on prowl is tarantulas and not mesothulas, but from tarantulas' side. like. the underlying existential horror of that. you could never have avoided any of it. you try to make yourself something else after your whole life gets ripped apart and then you find out that was actually just part of the trajectory. literally your only option was to turn (get turned) into someone else, completely changed for the person who tried to erase you. and when you lean into it and go back and let it happen, you get told 'no'. like. DAMN. that's the one good soulmate au to me i've decided. i'd have a meltdown too.

Would you happen to know any good let's play series of ieytd? Does it matter if I go straight for 3 or should I start with 1? And does it have any plot, or is it more like a level based completionist type of thing?

Oho!!! I’d definitely suggest you start with 1, due to there being a bit of a plot thread. The games tend to pick up where the last one left off and the story progresses, although the games have their own little self-contained stories.

As for let’s-plays, I don’t have any particular recommendations? Myself I prefer to watch no commentary full playthroughs just because then you get to experience the dialogue uninterrupted, and there’s some great jokes and tidbits of lore in there! I shall link you some videos, though.

so this summer i am nannying a 5 year old who loves miraculous ladybug (my dream) & every day she asks if we can play ladybug and chat noir at the park. these are some comics based on our various games<3

this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.

good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.

sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.

so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.

one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.

the dichotomy between the "immigrant" (someone from the global south who moves to the north) and the "expat" (someone from the global north who moves to the south) makes me feel fucking crazy. a white person who moves to asia is an expat but an asian who moves to the west is an immigrant. & how those terms are politicized and assigned class statuses, like the word "immigrant" tends to imply a blue collar worker (even if that isn't the case) while "expat" implies a white collar worker. the associations with "expat neighbourhoods" in asian countries is very very different from those of "immigrant neighbourhoods" in western nations. also how "immigrants" who dont assimilate are seen as "failing" and bad, lower class, a burden on society, etc. whereas "expats" not assimilating into local culture is expected and viewed as a sign of their higher status. the double standards are so insane
