Our local museum is a treasure throve of history. For our ceramics elective we were asked to visit 'Made of Clay' exhibition running currently in the Hunt Museum.

Out of all the artifacts I was attracted to this Raqqa style bowl an original of Syrian pottery.

I made my own version by throwing clay on the wheel and then using one glaze by dipping the bowl into it to style it similarly to the Raqqa bowl.

Ha ha! I have found a metal box the appropriate size! 😁 I am one step closer to making my charcoal. Now I just need a metal coat hanger and some softwood and some hardwood. I could use a metal brazier or a barbecue pit for the heating process, but I think I will just clear some space and make a brick fire pit. Useful Stuff: IKEA SLAPPA Towel - Good for Swimming!

I have just started the #glt20daychallenge which is a 20-day challenge to appreciate our husbands daily! This idea came about because I’m aware of how much I’ve been neglecting Hubs since becoming a mother, and I’ve decided to get more Mummies to join in the fun! I first brought Baby Dozer swimming after he turned 6 months old and you can read about my tips on how to bring a baby swimming here. One of the things which is very important, especially if you’re bringing a baby to the pool is to ensure they stay warm. 

Typically, I find that carrying the baby from the pool to the washroom is where it’s easiest for baby to get chilled, especially if your towel is inadequately thick or big. So, if you’re thinking of bringing baby for a swim, the IKEA SLAPPA towel is an essential. 

I received this towel as a gift from a family member and was extremely grateful for this very practical and useful gift after discovering how wonderful it is. 

Let me share with you the good points of this towel. 

1. Comes with a detachable hood

I find the hood very practical because the head is where we lose body heat the fastest. Hence, it is important to cover baby’s head after he’s had his swim. The hood is also detachable which makes it easier to wash and dry the towel, besides giving you the option of using the towel without the hood if you find it unnecessary. The hood is really easy to fasten or detach because they’re snap-ons. 

2. Easy to use

Babies hate fuss and get agitated if you wrap a towel and fuss around them trying to get the towel to stay. The beauty of this towel is you just slip it over baby’s head, pretty much like wearing a shirt and you’re done.

3. No slipping off baby

The towel is shaped like an oversized shirt so once you get baby’s head through the hole in the middle of the towel, it definitely will stay on. No worries about the towel sliding off or exposing skin. 

4. The sides of the towel can be fastened together with snaps 

To further ensure that baby doesn’t get chilled, there are snaps running down both sides of the towel, so you can fasten them beforehand prior to slipping the towel over baby. That way, you can be assured that the wind won’t blow through the sides of the towel, causing baby to get chilled. 

5. Thick

The towel is also rather thick which I think is important in keeping baby warm especially after a swim. It was probably meant for cold climate usage hence making it a good choice as a swimming towel. 

6. Cute!

Finally, this towel is so cute that it’s bound to attract friendly smiles from those around. Every time Baby Dozer uses this towel post-swimming, people will laugh and go, “So cute! He looks like he’s from Star Wars!”
