I just saw ANOTHER post lamenting this change, so I'm just gonna say "fuck it" and make a how to do the thing post, and if I'm misunderstanding the outrage... lol, this is tumblr, I'm sure someone will tell me.

Currently, if you want to go to a post in the middle of a reblog thread, you have to click the empty space in what I call the reblog header. The reblog header is the space that holds a user's name and reblog details, and on desktop, it turns a different color when you move your cursor over it. It's this space:

It doesn't change colors on mobile, obviously, because no cursor, but I think tapping is a little more intuitive on mobile anyway and afaik this particular thing has been this way here for a while now...? Whatever. Anyway, that's how you get to a mid-thread reblog!

(I actually do kinda like this new setup. It's not perfect, it can be annoying if someone's URL is long or if I accidentally click "Follow" instead of the header space. But overall, the space to click into a prior reblog is bigger now and I like that. I don't think I'll have to worry as much about mouse precision or drowsy coordination issues, which is nice. Maybe I'll be able to use the desktop version more.)

However, this means that in order to see "prev tags," you apparently have to click into the notes view and scroll until you find them. That's annoying for those who want to see them, and I can't blame anyone for being irritated. If you're new here you may be surprised to learn "prev tags" is fairly recent, so my recommendation (if you're looking for an alternative) is to put the actual tags from the user you're reblogging from, instead. This was normal prior to the "prev tags" trend if you wanted to share tags without screenshotting them, and it seems like tumblr has made it super easy now. The mobile app now automatically suggests the previous tags, and on desktop, they show up in a dropdown when you click to tag your post. Personally, I like to put "<-borrowing your tags bc funny" or "<-stole your tags for truth" or something right after, so I don't feel like I'm taking credit for someone else's phrasing. But either way, it's handy for your followers to be able to read the tags you liked without having to click to a different blog.

I'm hoping this particular change will be seen as useful after the rocky adjustment period is over.

All this being said, I personally like these particular changes, but I wish Tumblr would not roll out changes as rapidly as they seem to be recently. Either change everything at the same time or give it a rest, holy shlamoly! I stopped using Facebook because it seemed like every time I opened it, something was different, and it became jarring and uncomfortable to try to use. I'm starting to have a similar feeling about tumblr, and I don't like it.

This new tumblr mobile update is making me angry like why move the home blog button to the top corner and make it a weird thing when I open it to look at my blog and likes and stuff and replace it with a tumblr store like excuse me

HM. y'know, i don't know! i'm lucky to have a lot of good meals since my grandparents (mom's side) and my dad are all great cooks, and i've even made some meals that surprised me with how much i liked them. plus, i've gone to a lot of great restaurants over the years.

when i think of my grandparents' cooking, my grandpa makes angel hair spaghetti with the best tomato and meat sauce i've ever had, and my grandma makes some of the best enchiladas i've ever had. and i've had a lot of enchiladas since i often order them when i go to Mexican restaurants

about a most MEMORABLE meal (again, like i said, not actually answering the question bUT OH WELL I FEEL LIKE THIS FOLLOWS THE SPIRIT OF THE QUESTION CLOSE ENOUGH):

so anyway

a while back, i went to a BBQ place with my family. i was somewhere between 12 - 14 years old. i ordered something like a third pound or half pound burger with fries, and the guy taking my order -- it was a small BBQ place, so i'm guessing either he was one of the owners or the restaurant was really informal and laidback -- was like "NO WAY YOU CAN EAT ALL THAT."

my family: "oh she can"

waiter: "IF SHE EATS ALL THAT SHE GETS THAT MEAL FOR FREE"

me, jokingly smug but also sincere: "i'm looking forward to that free meal"

and i ate it all and the guy was way surprised but super happy and i got a free meal XD

This week, I'm going through the recipe links I've saved to see what could be customized, changed, further researched, adapted, etc... into spellwork. I'm not taking them wholesale, obviously -- it's more like inspiration. Most of them will end up being just for personal use (as most of my recipes typically are) but I hope a couple will end up public.

I'm also finalizing my food list for the Spring Equinox this year! I've got recipes pretty much ready to go, they just need to be transcribed. I'm aiming to do a couple somethings about what I do for this particular Equinox in the run-up to it and also after, since welcoming spring isn't just a one-day deal.

January and February were fuckin hard. I'm trying to get back into a more regular schedule for March here and on Ko-Fi!! Stay tuned (:

Hello, Tumblr. 

If you joined us before November 2022 and predominantly post on web, you will be familiar with the two post editors—the legacy editor and the “new” web editor (formerly known as the “Beta editor”).

Beginning May 15, we’ll gradually be working to remove the legacy editor as an option for creating new posts. New posts created on web will be created in the new web editor. We hope to complete this change by July 15. 

This change only affects accounts created before November 2022. Newer accounts already default to the new web editor.

This will not affect posting on the apps because we switched to this new editor on the apps about four years ago. If you use the apps, you’ve been using the new editor all this time!

This will not affect what you can include in a post, only how you get there: You can still include all the different types of media in a post, only now, you’ll do that via the new web editor’s content blocks instead of selecting a post type from the post type bar at the top of your dash. So, if you’re halfway through a text post, and you decide that what this post really needs is your pet reptile, then click on the little red image icon in the post editor, select an image, and voilà. Lizard boy steals our hearts.

If you still prefer to post on web using the legacy editor, please keep reading because the rest of this post is for you.

How can you prepare for this change?

Once we have completed this update, you won’t be able to create posts using the legacy editor. You will be able to edit posts made using the legacy editor, at least for now. 

Start using the new web editor ahead of the switch. This will help you help us troubleshoot any issues you might encounter. It’ll also mean you’ll already know the ropes before the switch is final. 

Talk to us. Send us feedback. Especially if you’re switching from legacy to the new web editor. We want to hear about your experience: Are there any specific workflows or features in legacy that you want to see in the new editor?      

If you use a theme, make sure to check whether it supports posts made using the new web editor, and update it if that’s not the case. 

For those of you trimming reblogs: @rpschtuff has created an incredibly detailed master post that gets into the nitty gritty of that practice in the new web editor.

XKitters: XKit Rewritten was explicitly designed with the new web experience in mind. This means that you will need to use XKit Rewritten when creating posts in the new web editor.
