it's covered in a thick layer of dust from disuse. none of the cupboards or closets have doors, not when they're so easy to hide behind. the windows are covered in thick black paint that no light can penetrate

but worst? worst is the glass

mirrors, cups, bowels, every single reflective surface is shattered; the glass left lying where it fell

he never cleans it; just steps around the crystalline piles, the shards too fine to hold a reflection

there's little need to guess how they were broken, not when there's a fist-sized hole in the mirror backing in the bathroom. not when fine scars riddle his knuckles, torn from ripping out glass splinters with shaking hands

thinking about the character again (cinderpelt) and it's likely unintentional and a result of either her shifting narrative role from young go getter to wise mentor or a shift in how the books display their own politics but i find something really tragic in-universe in how she develops from a character who will actively and willingly break the warrior code when it conflicts with her own morals (immediately lying to cover for graystripe and silverstream, acting in direct defiance of her leadership to nurse littlecloud and whitethroat back to health) but overtime through her role she gradually grows more god-fearing and pious and embodies somewhat of a "starclan is always right, even when they are cruel, and we need to accept that" position

Jason from the perspective of people who only know him as an acquaintance is so good. He is definitely one of those people who you somehow just know has had something really really bad happen to them. Everyone knows there is something there and no one asks because it wont help anything to have specifics. The clerk at the corner store gets offended on Jason’s behalf when another patron whispers about how scary he is because that guy always holds the door for people and empties his pockets of change in the leave a penny tray. One night he crashes through a rooftop garden and comes back later to leave a note saying sorry along with a hidden envelope of cash to make up for it. When he stops back to check two ladies have waited up to give him zucchini bread and they know by his reaction that he isn’t used to little unexpected kindnesses.

Yes, 100x yes.

I love Jason through outsider eyes. Because when you take away the lens of trauma and assumption and bias his family views him through, you see the person he is underneath so much more clearly. And, sure, Jason might be a bit of an asshole, but he is also a fundamentally good person. He has a heart of gold and life has taught him to protect it with angry words and weaponry.

related to this post but ive been thinking about this a lot after owens final stream because i am so scared of the idea that its going to be brushed off. sneegs very dismissive attitude about the whole thing seems like a bad omen to me, i dont know. it makes sense for yellow to be unbothered about the king dying, since foolish is established immortal and has been unaffected by resets up until this point, but owen put on such a good show from start to finish and told an amazing story and he deserves this. he absolutely deserves to have this carried on after in the way he envisioned. this is a failure on yellows part. it should be an embarrassment that despite "knowing" what owen was up to the jester outsmarted them. he didnt need levels or nirvana or prot 9 gear, he just needed his wit. and it fucking sucks to imagine foolish coming back completely normally and everyone just moving on. this is what i mean when i say i want people to care and i want people to lose. the kingdom of fools lost. they will never get revenge on the person who did this. that should matter. i can only pray stultus will do something to foolish in the afterlife or hell be affected Somehow long term because i might scream if i hear someone say "we let owen do that because it didnt matter to us"

Delightful Distraction

A genderswapped FluffyNight drabble to celebrate reaching 300 followers! This was briefly looked over & written in two sittings! Happy reading!

Ccino hums quietly to the music that's playing in the otherwise quiet café & picks up the dirty dishes of the table that had just left, leaving the building free of customers for the time being.

Carrying the plates carefully with both hands, she walks into the back where the kitchen is & deposits the dirty dishes into the sink, already filled with plates from earlier in the day.

Ccino debates with herself for a moment before grabbing a pair of dish washing gloves from nearby & slipping them on. She might as well take advantage of the lack of customers & get a head start on washing up.

Scrubbing away at a dirty cup, Ccino's unaware of a presence approaching her from behind until there are suddenly arms wrapped around her waist, causing her to jump & tighten her grip on the mug in her hand in surprise.

Looking over her shoulder, Ccino glares at the grinning face behind her, huffing in annoyance. "Was that really necessary?" Nightmare lets out a quiet chuckle as she tightens her hold around Ccino, resting her head on the other's shoulder.

"No, but it was funny." She mumbles softly in response to the question, pressing a soft kiss against Ccino's neck in apology. "Will you ever find it in yourself to forgive me?"

Ccino rolls her eyelights & sighs with a shake of her skull, unable to keep the smile off of her face as she turns back to face the sink. "I don't know, what will you do to make it up to me?"

Nightmare hums as she thinks, grin softening into a smile as she tries to come up with a satisfying reply. "I could always make dinner for us tonight?"

Ccino stands straight & pulls away from Nightmare's hold slightly to look at her, a look of panic on her face as she frantically tries to backtrack. "N-No, it's fine! No further apology needed, I'm good!"

Nightmare huffs with a pout, reluctantly pulling away & taking a step back from the other. "What exactly are you trying to say?"

Ccino pauses to take off the gloves she's wearing before turning to face Nightmare fully. "Honey, you know I love you," she takes the other's hands into hers, squeezing them softly as she meets Nightmare's gaze & continues speaking, "but your cooking could use some work."

Nightmare frowns as if she's upset, but shrugs after a moment as a smile forms on her face again. "Yeah, that's fair." She squeezes Ccino's hands in return, leaning in & pressing a chaste kiss against the other's teeth.

Ccino hums as she goes to kiss Nightmare again, unsatisfied with how short the last one was, only to jump at the sound of the bell hanging in front of the door ringing & signaling the presence of a customer.

She pulls away in a panic, adjusting her apron with a light blush on her face as she walks away from Nightmare & back out to the actual café area, calling out to the customer. "Just a moment!"

Nightmare watches as Ccino walks away with a pout, tentacles drooping in disappointment as she hears her begin to take the customer's order. She had hoped to have Ccino's attention for longer, but that clearly wasn't going to happen.

Nightmare looks over at the dirty dishes that she had distracted Ccino from, sighing & grabbing the gloves that the other had been using. She may as well help her darling out a little since she had distracted her.

Has Mel been offered a haircut?

I know that's not what his hair was like before Swift and I'm wondering if he's okay with that or stuck with it

The means to get a haircut definitely exist aboard the Inferno, but no one's really thought to ask him (and he hasn't asked himself)

He's sort of indifferent to it, I suppose. Hasn't had much access to a mirror either, so he hasn't had a chance to really look at himself since before Mercury. There are still reflections in windows and portholes and other things he may pass, but it's different. Distorted in a way.

It's kind of annoying if he's trying to do anything, but otherwise he doesn't care too much
