does anyone else hc dorcas to just appear like a complete loner?
it’s not that there’s anything wrong with her but:
- she has friends but doesn’t have a friend group
- she comes off as closed off at first but it’s only because she’s introverted
- she won’t talk to anyone unless they talk to her first
- people like to talk to her in class but they won’t hang out outside of it
- she’s in a bunch of clubs but the friendships don’t expand from their shared interests
- she keeps to herself and no one thinks much about it
- a lot of people think she’s cool but won’t approach her
- nobody really hates her, in fact, she gets a lot of compliments on her style and everyone thinks she’s absolutely beautiful
it’s just… nothing sticks.
and the whole time dorcas is wishing that someone talks to her and that they grow a genuine friendship that will last but she’ll never make the first move either. so overtime she gets used to her own company and accepts the fact that she’ll spend her teenage years alone.

break - Jegulus Microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - word count: 299
When Regulus played Quidditch, he was unstoppable. He focused all of his energy and abilities on one single goal: finding the Snitch.
While some called him ruthless (and a bit unhinged), his drive and determination got results: he’d never, ever, been beaten. Even when his team lost, he refused to back down until that small, golden ball was fluttering in the palm of his hand.
Of course, his competitive nature sometimes was a bit much. Especially today, when he was just playing a friendly pickup game with his friends.
“Oi, Reg! What’d I ever do to you?” Marlene McKinnon called to him as she rubbed her side where he’d just elbowed her in his attempt to get past. She, Sirius, James, and Barty were playing on one team, while Evan, Regulus, Dorcas, and Pandora played on the other.
“Got in my way!” he called back, only half joking.
But he didn’t let anything, even the friendliness of the game, break his concentration.
That is, until he saw Barty smirk and whisper something into James’s ear, and then the Gryffindor said loudly. “Wow, it’s hot out! Sorry, guys, let me just-”
And then James Potter pulled his shirt from his body, allowing Regulus full view of his bare chest. Instantly, his mouth went dry and he could no longer feel his limbs.
Regulus wanted to scream as he looked from Barty, who was giving Regulus a smug, knowing grin, to James, who was just innocently beaming at Regulus like he wasn’t blatantly trying to distract him.
Like it wasn’t bloody working.
And, ten minutes later, as Regulus stomped into the locker room, he tried to ignore the way Barty clapped James on the back, yelling loudly, “Knew I backed the right team!”
Fuck James Potter and his stupid perfect body.

annual christmas parties… and punches! ✸ regulus black
summary. you bring regulus to your familes christmas party. hugs are given. songs are sung. punches are thrown. kisses are shared.
pairings. regulus black x potter!reader
Regulus Black knew of parties, of course, his family had thrown a lot of them but this was different. The boy sat in the living room watching you as you stood in the hallway talking with a family member, everyone was getting along, everyone seemed comfortable. Sirius was even comfortable enough to be snuggled on the couch with Remus as they talked to the Potters family.
Regulus Black had never felt so out of place.
You noticed when you looked over your aunts shoulder, his fingers gripped onto his drink. Him constantly looking around, Marlene had left him apparently. You excused yourself from you aunt and made your way back to him.
You smiled as you approached him, “Hi, my love,” Your voice was quiet as you sat beside him. He smiled back, “Hi,” his voice was quiet but sad, causing you to frown. You so badly wanted to reach out and grab his hand but now his brother and Remus were approaching so you brought your hand back to your lap.
“Hey, little brother.”
Regulus head snapped up, he was still getting used to being close with his brother, “We’re going outside to… yeah.” He stopped to say smoke but your family was behind him, Sirius was hinting for him to join so you nudged him before you stood up.
“Bring spray, mom will kill you if you bring that smell in.” You said patting his shoulder as you walked away, Regulus stuttered as Sirius pulled him up. You looked over your shoulder to see that Regulus was giving you pleading eyes.
“Sweetheart, your mom needs help with the food,” your father said as he passed you. You smiled walking to the kitchen. When you entered she was looking out of the small kitchen window, she was smiling causing you to look.
Regulus was laughing with the boys causing you to smile too, “You love him, hm?” Euphemia said from beside you making you snap your head to her, she was looking at you with her knowing look.
“Wh-wh—“ you choked on your words as she tilted her head, “Yeah, I think I do.” You whispered as she cooed bringing you into a hug, you groaned as you fell onto her chest with a smile.
She pulled you away with a smile looking out the window before at her daughter again, “I’m glad because you’re happy but also because you’re showing him true love.” She spoke grabbing your face, you smiled.
“Now c’mon, help me with— oh my god, James!” She cut herself off with a yell causing you to jump, you followed her eyesight out of the window again but James stood in front of Regulus with his fist clenched as Regulus held his face, as everyone inside and outside started at them in shock, Regulus punched James.
That sent you out of shock as you ran outside, pushing James as he stepped towards your boyfriend again. “Stop,” you yelled as Sirius walked past you to his brother. James glared at you pushing your hands off of his chest.
“Merlin, sunny. Him?” His voice was full of disgust as your parents walked out of the house, “James!” Fleamont gritted out as he approached his kids, you stepped back with tears in your eyes. “Whatever it is, you couldn’t have waited until everyone left?” Your father stepped in front of James as your your mother grabbed your arm.
James shook his father’s hands off, “Whatever it is, she is dating him, dad.” Your brother pointed at Regulus, looking back at you. He shook his head in shame making the tears fall.
“Okay, chill out, Prongs.” Sirius stated, James scoffed.
“Chill out? You have no problem with this?”
Euphemia snapped her head to look at Sirius, “do not answer that.” She scolded , Looking at her husband, “Deal with him.” Looking at James, you hated the feeling as you walked into your home and your family staring at you. You heard the yelling outside as your mom brought you into the kitchen.
“You didn’t tell him?” She spoke softly, bringing her chair closer to soothe you.
You breathed out, “I never knew how, I wanted to, I did. But he has no right to act like that towards him.” You said, your mother could feel your emotions flowing through you but mostly anger.
“Sweetie, I know, he does not but please take a deep breath in,” she said waiting for you too, once you did she smiled. “Now out.”
The kitchen door opened, “Oh, darling.” You mother cooed, you looked up seeing Regulus with Sirius standing beside him, Remus stood awkwardly behind them. Euphemia left your side to care for Regulus who avoided eye contact with you, you watched his every movement as Remus took your mother’s seat. You flinched when Regulus would wince, Remus grabbed onto your hand.
The door opened once again but you didn’t look, “sweetheart,” you fathers voice caught everyone attention. “Go talk to your brother.” He said, you gave him a look.
He gave you a look, everyone in the kitchen knew you and your father could talk through looks for hours, Sirius was freaked for the first time when he witnessed it.
He cleared his throat, “enough with that, sunny. Go.” His voice was stern, you rolled your eyes but stood up. Fleamont smiled as you walked passed him, he made sure to listen for the back door before he sat down.
You shut the door behind you looking at your brothers back, he knew it was you, he always did but this time he didn’t turn around.
“I really don’t wanna talk to you,” he said without looking at you, you bit your lip.
“Jamie, I’m sorry.”
“It doesn’t mean anything, please just go.”
Your eyes filled with tears, he had never once told you to go. Yeah, you two had fought— sometimes literally, never had he been like this and it made you feel horrible. You opened the door, one of your cousins called your name, you put on your best smile as you approached them, luckily no one asked about what happened for the rest of the day. You were grateful but now as everyone left, you looked for Regulus and he was nowhere to be seen.
“Mom, have you seen Regulus?” You asked as she sat beside you, she shook her head. You frowned looking at James who was back to smiling and laughing with his friends. You mother watched, she hated when her kids argued but this was the worst she’s ever seen it and she’s seen a lot.
You and your mother watched as Sirius and James did horrible karaoke to Christmas songs, you grimaced as they made everyone join. You snuck out of the room as they began to sing, horribly at that. Seeing Regulus through the windows, sitting outside in a small jacket as he watched the snow.
He looked up as you opened the door with a shiver, you said nothing as you sat beside him. The two of you sat in silence for a few minutes before you spoke up.
“I’m sorry,” you murmur afraid if you spoke louder you would start to cry again. Regulus looked at you but regretted it when he met your teary eyes. “It’s not your fault,” he whispered. You smiled softly, “kind of is.”
He laughed under his breath, “Kind of is, but also mine.”
You laughed, “you’re not mad at me, are you?” You dared to ask, he looked at you again with a shocked look. “Why would I be mad at you? Your brother punched me.” He smiled but you frowned, he brought his hand to your face, it was freezing but you didn’t say anything.
“My love, I’m not mad at you. I’m hurt… I’m hurt because your brother doesn’t approve of us and I was terrified that if he didn’t that you would leave me.” He confessed blinking hardly, you stared at him.
“Love, I would never— is there something in your eye?” You asked looking at him oddly, he rubbed his eyes harshly. “Something like that.” He mumbled, you moved his hands from his face.
“Are you crying?”
Regulus let out a scoff wiping his face, “wha- no! I think snow fell in my eye.” He sputtered out, you laughed.
“You’re crying! Holy shit. You’re crying at the thought of me leaving you.” You wanted to laugh and cry at the thought of, Regulus tried to deny but ended up letting his head fall onto your chest as you wrapped your arms around him. “Yeah, I am.” He admitted though it came out muffled, you smiled kissing his hair.
The two of you sat with each other for a while until he said something, “Love, I can’t hear you.” You spoke as he brought his head up.
“I’m freezing, your skin is cold.”
You laughed as he sat up, “I’m cold because it’s snowing out and my freezing boyfriend is laying on me.” You said grabbing his hand to pull him up. He intertwined your fingers after he stood up, the two of you walked into the house hearing laughter upstairs.
Your parents saw the two of you, “Sweetheart,” You looked at your mother who jerked her head. “Go upstairs and warm up, I’ll be there in a second.” You said pecking Regulus’ lips letting go of his hands as you approached your parents. They both said nothing as they looked over your shoulder.
“What?” You laughed looking over your shoulder, your laughter faded away seeing James sulking on the couch. He had a drink in his hand but just stared at it, you bit the inside of your cheek. Turning around your parents looked at you, without saying anything they told you to talk him, again.
You turned around, James looked at you but quickly turned back— he actually turned his body away from you making you laugh as you sat beside him.
“Jamie, seriously I’m sorry but that’s unnecessary.” You said as he scoffed.
“It’s totally unnecessary when my sister has lied to me for months.”
You laughed again, “I didn’t lie, I just didn’t tell you—“
“So all those times I asked where you were and you said somewhere, you were there and not with him?”
You were quiet, you could tell James was actually upset and just covering it up with being dramatic like he always did.
“James, please just look at me.”
“I really don’t want to, you make me sick.”
“Fucking hell, James I swear just look at me and talk to me, I’m sorry! It hurt me to not tell you but look at how you reacted! I was terrified of that, I was terrified of how you looked at me today because I never want to lose you.” You cried causing James to turn around, his eyes filled with tears seeing his sister cry, it always happened.
“You’re never gonna lose me, sunny. I’m just hurt you couldn’t tell me.” He sighed, you frowned.
“It’s not all about me, Jamie. I love him,” you glared at your brother as he rolled his eyes. “I do, Jamie. Please, I’m not gonna do this with you.” You said with a sigh, sniffling James looked at your pleading eyes.
James Potter hated seeing his sister cry, every time you did he made her tell him why and if someone had made her cry. He would prank them for years or even punch them because they broke up with her, just anything he could do to because they made you cry.
Now he was them, he watched as tears continued to fall down your red cheeks. His heart broke thinking of you thinking you would lose him.
“Sunny,” he whispered wiping your falling tears, bringing you into a hug, you sighed softly.
“You’re not gonna lose me, sunny, never.” He said into your hair, you pulled away.
“Okay,” you nodded.” “But that’s not it.”
James licked his lips, “I know, I’m sorry for doing that and saying the things I did to him.”
“I don’t need that apology.” You said as he looked away, “James, you don’t have to love him but just- just please tolerate him.”
“Fine.”
You smiled kissing his cheek as you walked away, walking into your room seeing Regulus tucked underneath a pile of your blankets causing you to laugh. He peeked from them, he smiled as he pushed them to the side as you laid on top of him then bringing them to lay on top of the two of you.
Without a word, Regulus captured your lips onto his. You smiled into the kiss bringing your hands to his hair as his fell onto your hips, “I love you,” he muttered into the kiss.

Animal person
Series Masterlist
Sirius Black x Fem!Slytherin!reader
1.6k words
cw: smoking, drinking, fluff
With a drink in one hand and Marlene’s cat in your lap being pet by the other, sitting on the couch in the Gryffindor Common Room was proving to be more fun than you had imagined. You were only there since Marlene wanted Dorcas there and Dorcas didn’t want to go alone. So, you got dragged from the dungeons to Gryffindor Tower. Conversations surrounded you as the Gryffindors animatedly told stories and jokes fueled by spiked punch. Marlene’s cat somehow managed to purr loud enough for you to hear her over everything around you.
“I swear, she loves you more than me!” Marlene pouts as she is snuggled into Dorcas’ side on the couch.
You laugh. “I’m an animal person, what can I say? They love me.”
As if on cue, the cat looks up at you and mews.
“How come you don’t have a pet then?” Dorcas asks, tipping her cup toward you before bringing it back to her lips.
“Mum’s not as animal-friendly as I am,” you say with a shrug. “So I’m waiting until after Hogwarts when I move out.”
“Going to get your own cat?” Lily asks from the chair next to you.
“No. Dog.”
“Dog?” Marlene gasps.
“I’m a big dog person.”
“Are you now?” James asks, suddenly joining the conversation despite having been in the middle of one with Remus and Peter.
“Yes?” you reply, unsure why that caught his attention.
“You should get to know Sirius then,” Remus says, gesturing to the window off to the side where Sirius is. He’s leaning against the wall, peering out the slightly cracked open window. He blows a puff of smoke out into the night.
“He likes dogs?” you ask.
“You could say that,” James says with a twinkle of mischief in his eyes.
You look at the girls, trying to get a read off of them. They offer no insight to why the boys want to send you in Sirius’ direction.
“Didn’t get the vibe that his family was all that into animals, based on Regulus.”
“Yeah, well, Sirius, he's different than his brother, yeah,” James rattles off. “Bit of a dog himself, if you know what I mean.”
Remus barks a laugh, leaning on Peter who is also laughing. The girls exchange glances of annoyance. You cast a wary look toward Sirius and take a sip of your drink. The cat nudges your now-limp hand, asking for your petting to resume.
“Anyways,” you say, trying to turn the conversation back from the boy smoking at the window, “any of you lot done Slughorn’s essay?”
“I have,” Lily and Remus say at the same time, causing them to smile at each other and laugh.
“Of course our prefects have the homework done,” Marlene says.
“Not going to lie, I’m more than okay I didn’t score well enough to take N.E.W.T. level Potions,” Dorcas says. “Never really liked Slug anyways.”
“He’s our head of house!” you laugh before taking a sip of your drink and then deciding to down it.
“Does not mean I have to like him,” she defends. “I bet they all don’t like McGonagall.”
“That woman is a saint!” James declares.
“A saint who gives you detention once a week?” Lily snorts.
“Sometimes more,” Peter corrects her. “Depends how busy we are.”
“And he’s usually busier than the rest of us,” Remus adds.
You gently shift the cat over to Marlene; it lets out a chirp of protest. You shake your empty cup in a silent explanation to Marlene’s confused look that she gave you. You head over to the punch bowl and refill your cup. Instead of returning to the couch, you decide to humor the Gryffindors and approach Sirius.
“I’ve heard smoking is bad for you,” you say, leaning against the wall opposite of him.
He takes a drag and blows the smoke in your face, causing you to slightly grimace. However, once the smoke clears from in front of your face and you can see his smirk, you take the cigarette from his hand and take your own drag, blowing smoke back into his face.
“Oi! Out the window!” some yells from nearby.
You hand Sirius the cigarette back.
“Keep it,” he says. “I got a whole pack.”
You’re still holding out the cig to him.
“I don’t smoke.”
He rolls his eyes.
“So you’re just going to stand here then?”
You shake your head and take a sip from your cup. Once you lower it from your lips, he takes the cup from you, taking his own sip. When he gives it back, he takes the cigarette back.
“Eye for an eye, huh,” you say, a smile playing on your lips.
“Drinking’s bad for your liver,” he says, looking you up and down. “You’re not a Gryffindor,” he adds after a moment.
“Good observation.”
He looks around the room as if taking account of who is all there. It’s mostly Gryffindors, Dorcas and maybe two Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs. He looks back at you.
“Who’re you here with? Not exactly open invite.”
You take a sip of your drink.
“With you right now, aren’t I?” There’s a hint of flirtation in your voice.
His eyes narrow.
“Who let you in?” he rephrases his question.
“Marlene.”
He looks back at the couch where Marlene was watching them intently. She was still leaning into Dorcas’ side and petting her cat. He hums, coming to a conclusion.
“Meadowes…” He chuckles dryly. “How’s my brother dearest?”
“Apparently less into animals than you are.”
He cocks his head.
“The hell is that supposed to mean?”
You shrug, taking the cigarette for another drag and this time, you blow the smoke out the cracked window. As you do so, the cold night air really hits your face and you relish how refreshing it feels compared to the hot common room.
“I said I’m a dog person and Lupin declares I should get to know you.”
He barks out a laugh and shoots a look towards the boys who are all smiling wickedly as they have also been watching the two of you converse. You look between the boys and Sirius before taking another drag on the cigarette.
“Some joke I’m missing?” you ask, forcibly placing the dying cigarette back in his hand. “Potter said you were a bit of a dog yourself,” you add, imitating James. “But I’d have to be dense to not know what that means.”
He looks back at you, smiling a bit wider now.
“And what does that mean?” he asks, ignoring your original question.
“It’s how you treat women,” you say with an eye roll.
You take a large sip of your drink before crossing your arms. You watch as his grey eyes take you in again. Trying not to feel unsure of yourself, you look him over. He’s still in his uniform, although it’s more disheveled than it usually is, shirt untucked, sleeves rolled up and tie barely hanging on. His hair was partially tied back to be kept out of his face.
“I get good responses from the ladies,” he says nonchalantly.
“But do you deserve it?”
“They leave satisfied and come back for more,” he says with a wink.
He snuffs out the cigarette and pulls out the pack to retrieve another one. You reach out to lower the box and put it back in his pocket.
“It reeks.”
“But you had some!”
“Hmm, no. I don’t smoke.”
He reaches into his other pocket and pulls out a packet of gum. He offers you one and you accept it, popping it immediately into your mouth.
“‘Preciate it. Dory’s already going to kill me for abandoning her tonight; I don’t need double time because of your bad habit.”
“Darling, you already smell of it.”
“Because you blew it at me, instead of out the window.”
“You just have all the answers, don’t you?”
“Most of ‘em.”
“Yeah?” His voice was teasing. “What’s something you don’t know?”
“Why your friends thought I should get to know you.”
“Because I’m an absolute delight.”
You laugh. “Right, and Reg is a fucking ray of sunshine.”
“He’s an acquired taste,” Sirius muses.
“Like you’re not?”
“I repeat, I am a delight.”
His gaze seems to be challenging you to disagree.
“You’re an acquired taste too. And,” you sigh, “it appears your brother is more to my pallet.”
You pat his shoulder and give him a gentle smile before turning to head back to the couch. You can feel his eyes follow you. You pause in front of Dorcas and Marlene.
“Meadowes, do you need me to stay? I’m thinking of heading back.”
Lily looks at you from her chair. “Did he say something?”
“Huh? Black? No,” you say, shaking your head. “Just done with tonight.”
“Fine, go,” Dorcas says. You knew she was far too content to leave Marlene just yet, if at all that night.
Back in your own common room, you spot Regulus sitting on the couch by the fireplace. He’s reading. You plop down next to him and rest your head on his shoulder. You hear him audibly sniff the air.
“Why do you smell like my brother?”
“I was Meadowes’ escort to Gryffindor Tower tonight,” you say nonchalantly. “Surprise, surprise, he was there.”
“Okay, but you smell strongly of him.”
“Smoke and mint gum is your brother’s signature scent?”
“That and those leather jackets…” he mumbles.
You absentmindedly blow a bubble. He gives you a sideways glance.
“At least tell me it was all consensual.”
The bubble pops.
“Merlin, Reg! I didn’t shag Sirius!”
He shakes his head, not believing you.
“He offered me gum when I didn’t let him light a second cig,” you defend, sitting up straighter.
Regulus hums as he turns the page of his book.
–––
“Well, Pads, what did you think of her?” James asks after all four boys had abandoned the common room later in the evening.
“I think you need to stop sending girls my way because they like dogs.”
James and Remus exchange a glance.
“That wasn’t an answer,” Remus says.
Sirius rolls his eyes.
“Alright, she has my attention.”
Peter, Remus and James cheer at their success.

Buried in a Book | R.L.
summary: While you were part of the biggest friend group in Hogwarts, you’re often in your own world to even register the plans they make.
pairing: remus lupin x fem!reader
includes: remus being the best boyfriend in the entire world, reader feeling a little insecure, reader’s last name is rawlings (no, i didn’t realize how close it was to rowling until later 😞)
a/n: someone spam message me to finish my coryo series please 😭🙏
One of the best things about being in Gryffindor were the people you made friends with. From rule-breakers — such as James and Sirius — to heavy rule followers — Lily Evans herself — it was so diverse. You could throw pranks with the marauders while being a prefect. By the end of sixth year, the group was tight knit and it seemed as if nothing could ever ruin it.
But there was one thing they would typically forget about with their rambunctious nature. They always forgot about you in their plans. It wasn’t as if they did it intentionally. No, it was because you were always off in your own world, and when they made plans you didn’t hear them. Usually one of the girls would tell you, or your loving boyfriend, but you felt awful every time.
Today was no exception.
Sirius and Marlene made plans to Hogsmeade during breakfast for the weekend. And of course the rest of the group seconded that call and hurriedly ate their food to prepare for the trip. Being oblivious to everything that was happening, you continued to read your novel until Remus cleared his throat as a small warning.
Hearing this, you put a finger to your last sentence and looked up at him, eyebrows knitting up in confusion at the lack of noise coming from around you. “Where did they all go?”
“They made plans for Hogsmeade about…” He looked down at his watch, tapping it softly. “… Five minutes ago.”
He stacked the plates surrounding their area, your eyes watching his movements in silence. You thought you were listening to them this morning, but the last thing you heard before you got fully immersed was the next prank Sirius wanted to pull on Severus Snape.
Frowning, you carefully put your bookmark into your book and leaned your head on Remus’ shoulder, voice coming out quiet. “I didn’t realize.”
Remus wrapped an arm around your shoulders and pressed a kiss to your temple for assurance. “It’s okay, dovey. You were so invested in your book that I didn’t want to bother you.” He gently helped you up from the bench and pulled your closer to him, his slender fingers tracing patterns on your shoulder. “Besides, I get to have quality time with my best girl.”
A soft smile graced your lips at his comment, but a small part of your mind was eating at you. What if they were talking about something important and Remus wasn’t there to tell you about it? You guessed the girls would, but you would bet they would forget to tell you before you realized they left you.
“Is there anyway specific they asked us to meet then?” You murmured as you entered the Gryffindor common room where only a young first year was sitting by the fire and reading a muggle book.
“I think we both know the answer to that.” He played with the ends on your hair as he pulled around to face you properly. He twisted the ends and watched them unfurl until meeting your eyes.
You looked up and shook your head in amusement as you both said “The Three Broomsticks” at the same time. You scrunched your nose and smiled again when he kissed your forehead as a short parting gesture.
By the time you left the common rooms and made it to The Three Broomsticks, they were just leaving, causing another wave of guilt pass through you.
“There you two are! We were wondering when the both of you would make it.” Sirius pushed in between the both of you to wrap his arms around yours and Remus’ shoulders. “You guys missed out on Evans chugging down her butterbeer because Dorcas dared her.”
You blinked and looked over to Lily in surprise, but the wave of guild began to crash again. “Oh, that must’ve been interesting.”
“Very.” He nudged your side softly before noticing how weary you looked. “You okay there, Rawlings?” His voice got quiet and leaned closer to you. “You and Moony didn’t… You know?”
“Godric, what is wrong with you?” You push him away and dust the invisible dirt off your side. “No, I didn’t realize you guys left us so we went back to the common room before coming here.” You roll your eyes and trudge into Honeydukes with a frown on your face.
“Just a question!” Sirius called after you and look toward Remus instead. He gave him an unimpressed look and peeled Sirius’ arm off of him, raising a brow at the man. “She knows I was joking, right?”
“She does, but she’s not in the mood.” Remus rolled his eyes at Sirius as well before following your steps into the candy-filled store. “And for your information, the time span between leaving us and coming here wouldn’t give us enough time to make it satisfactory.”
Sirius creased his brows in confusion before gaping at his best friend. He looked back at James in shock before watching Remus enter the store with a smirk on his face. “Never in my entire life have I heard Remus John Lupin talk about his game like that.”
You watched young wizards and witches mess with the candy from the corner of Honeydukes, fiddling with your own sweater. Well, technically it was Remus’ but he gave it to you sometime last year. But as you played with the loose thread, the same guilt came back to gnaw on your feelings.
It was fine when it was only you missing out on the unplanned fun, but when Remus misses out on fun that he could’ve seen made you upset beyond belief. You didn’t think your own behavior could affect Remus this badly. And it’s not like Sirius helped when he asked about you and Remus.
“Dove?” Remus rounded the corner and found you biting the end of your thumbnail, making him sigh. He gently pulled your hand away and met your eyes. “What’s wrong, dovey?”
“Nothing.” You mumbled, wiping your hand on your sweater. You grimaced at the feeling but looked at Remus with solemn eyes. “Where’s the rest of them?”
He laced his hand with yours, squeezing it softly. “They went to Tomes and Scrolls. I think they’re buying gifts? I’m not to sure.”
You frowned, “When did they say that?”
“They didn’t. They were just heading in that direction when I left them.” He brought your hand up and kissed your knuckles. He watched your glazed eyes blink to get rid of the wet. “Talk to me, my love.”
You raised both brows at the name and felt your face warm. It was rare for him to call you his love, so everytime it made you feel like a child in a candy store, which was technically half true given the setting.
“Don’t you think it’s kind of annoying I zone in and out of our conversations with that whole group?” You finally spoke after a good second, fiddling with his fingers in anticipation for his answer. “We never get to do anything fun or on time because of me, and I’m not too sure why you still bother with me because of it—“
“Dovey,” Remus gave you a small smile, tilting his head down fully to speak only loud enough for you. “Do you really think I care what we miss with them? As long as I have you with me, I couldn’t care less.”
You gently squeeze his hand, “Don’t you want to hate me just a little bit?”
“Never.” He kissed your head. “Why would I ever hate you for your quirk? I think it’s cute that you get to immersed in your own world when reading. And you know why I love it so much?”
“Why?” You smile and tilt your head up to perfectly meet his own tilted head.
“Because then I get to hear all about what happens from your beautiful voice.” Remus grinned his wolfish grin, adjusting the sweater you have on. “So don’t worry too much about me missing out on those pricks because they don’t talk about anything worthwhile.”
You roll your eyes and let out a noise of surprise when he softly connects his waiting lips to yours. Instantly, you melt and return the kiss with equal passion before breaking apart, smiling giddily at him.
“What was that for?” You lay your cheek on his shoulder as shyness took over your body, especially with so many people around you both.
“Just love you.” He thumbed your waist now, nudging his chin onto your head softly. “And I wouldn’t want you any other way.”

the first time james saw you he lost interest in any other girl, you just looked so soft, so adorable. he wanted to keep you all to himself, away from prying eyes. before you he would tell people he doesn't have a type because before you he didn't, now though, well it's a different story, he just wants to wrap his arms around your plush waist and never let you go. he would gladly die between your thick thighs, buried between them.
one day you came into class and he figures that you must have run out of clothes to wear so you had to wear some of your old ones and that may have been one of the happiest days in his life. your shirt too tight and your skirt too short. he could see how the fabric and buttons of the shirt was struggling to stay covering your chest and your skirt short enough that james could see light stretch marks covering your skin, but also long enough to not cause a scene. no one else took notice of your attire that day, but james did. he couldn't help it, and he swears he tried to look away but he just couldn't, you're just so beautiful. he felt like a creep but he couldn't pay attention to anything else, he wanted to delicately trace your stretch marks with his fingertips. he wanted to do things that he'd never say out loud.
james wants to pull you down into his lap while he see's you making your way to your own table in the great hall. he wants to feel your body pressed against his and smell your sweet perfume. he knows you'd complain about being too heavy, he's overheard you mention it before, about how you think you're too heavy to get picked up or be on top of someone. james wants to impress you, to show you that he can, because of course he can pick you up and of course you're not too heavy for him, you're perfect the way you are and he's strong enough to lift anything and everything. he'd carry you with one hand all the way up a mountain if it would impress you and get you to notice him.
he wants to pinch your chubby cheeks and wants to kiss your forehead. he wants you.
his friends obviously notice this new attraction james has towards this girl but chosen not to mention, that is until he started to constantly bring you up and gushes to them about how perfect and cute you are. this getting very mixed reviews from his friends, lily having pity for you, aware of how he gets when he likes someone, sirius constantly teasing him about you, mary saying how nice you sounded, remus seemed mostly indifferent to the whole thing, marlene telling him to make a move. if james was honest he didn't take much notice of the teasing or the annoyance that they had because he kept bringing you up, he just needed to tell everyone about how amazing you are.
james knows how to pine after a girl and god does he do exactly that and he makes that very known to you. at first you were wary and skeptical of this sudden attention the famous gryffindor quidditch captain bestowed on you, he was one of the most popular students in hogwarts but after a while james broke down your walls with his charming smile and his acts of kindness, walking you to classes and pulling pranks on anyone who says nasty comments about you weight.
soon enough you end up in wrapped in red and gold on your way to support him in a match, his scarf keeping you warm from the harsh weather. after his win you end up running into his arms, congratulating him as he spins you around, you complain that he's sweaty, causing him to chuckle.
cupping your cheek, he lowers his voice and whispers to you, "you're my good luck charm, 'course i won." your face heats up and you shyly smile up at him. "what would i do without my good luck charm. you wanna be m' good luck charm always doll? wanna be mine?" he tucks some of your hair behind your ear, leaning in even closer, " 'cause i'm already yours. no one else for me doll." soon enough you accept to be his girlfriend, on the condition that he takes a shower straight away.

I’ll Crawl Home to Her
Remus Lupin x Fem!Reader
Content: pure fluff , James potters best friend
Authors note: yes this is inspired by work song by hozier because everyone is raving about his Arctic monkeys cover and I need shed light on this absolute masterpiece of a song so enjoy!!
Word count: 1.2k+
You sat up anxiously all night, pacing the dormitory and biting the inside of your cheek. Tonight was a full moon. Lily, Marlene, and Mary sat on the edge one of the beds watching as you paced. Of course, they didn’t know why you were pacing though. The only people who knew Remus was a werewolf were you and the marauders and none of the marauders knew that you two were even dating.
Her and Remus have been going strong since the night in the common room when they both confessed their feelings for each other. The hard part was keeping it a secret from the others. The only reason why they were keeping it a secret was because of James. He was very overprotective of his best friends but especially you.
“Love what’s got you this worked up?” Mary questioned hesitantly watching you pace around the room.
You waved her off muttering a small ‘nothing’ under your breath. Mary sighed standing up and putting her hands on your shoulders.
“The sun is quite literally rising and we have heard you walking around all night.” Mary stated her eyebrows furrowed in concern.
Something switched in your head and you quickly meet eyes with her.
“Wait the sun is rising?” You said in alarm. You were so busy worrying that you had completely lost track of time.
Mary nodded her head while moving out of the way so you could look outside of the window. Your eyes widened as you quickly grabbed your shoes and tied them on.
You had your clothes still on from yesterday so you didn’t even need to change. You grabbed the small thing of chocolate by your bed and quickly made your way out of the dormitory. Leaving the girls to look at each other with looks of bewilderment and confusion.
You felt your heart rate go a mile a minute as you tried to get to the infirmary as quickly as you could. Once you had reached outside of the doors you were out of breath, you heaved a long sigh to then attempted to fix your hair before pulling the door open.
You stepped inside looking around the beds. You looked until you saw him. You felt relief flood through your body as you let out quiet sigh of relief.
You walked slowly towards him seeing him look so peaceful while he slept made your heart warm. You pulled the curtains around him before moving one of the chairs beside his bed.
Once you sat down on the chair then you gently grabbed his hand watching his chest move up and down with each breath. You laid your head on the bed finally letting sleep wash over you now that you knew Remus was safe.
***
You woke groggily feeling your back ache. ‘It was definitely not a good idea to sleep in that position’ you thought to yourself. Until you heard a small laugh.
“Sleeping beauty is awake.” Remus muttered watching you a soft eyes and a small smile.
You looked up and you couldn’t help but let a grin rise to your lips.
“Look the beast is awake.” You countered back with a playful expression.
He laughed before wincing softly. You stood and walked closer to his bedside.
“Bad moon?” You questioned looking down at him.
He nodded with a slightly pained expression. He sighed softly looking up at you. He looked into your eyes and felt nothing but love and contempt fill within him. He lifted his covers in a way to tell you to lie down next to him. You bit your lip wondering if it was a good idea since he was hurt but he seemed absolutely sure.
You climbed under the duvet as he pulled the cover over the two of you. You looked down at his bare chest which had a couple of new bandages.
“I don’t know how you manage to do this every month.” You murmured softly looking down at all of the scars that littered his chest. The new ones and the old ones.
He sighed kissing your forehead “I’ve gotten used to it, darling.” He answered while his fingers played with your hair.
“But being in pain like this? I’m not even sure how you’re letting me lay this close to you.” You acknowledged tracing an old scar from a year ago, you remembered it because it was one of the really bad nights.
“You heal me. I feel no pain when you’re with me.” He admitted softly feeling a shiver travel down his spine at your touch.
You felt your brain go haywire at the admission but you didn’t let it show. You just continued tracing his scars with a small sappy grin.
“Look at me,” Remus said quietly causing you to look up and meet his eyes.
“I’ll always come back home to you. Even if I have to crawl.” He told you with nothing but certainty
You looked into his eyes and it felt like he could read your mind seeing all of your emotions and worries.
“I love you, Remus.” You said watching as a huge grin formed on his face.
“I love you too.” He said before giving you a small chaste kiss on your lips. The kiss was all you needed to feel nothing but reassured by him.
The sound of the curtain opening is what caused the two of you to pull away.
“What the hell!?” The three boys shouted in unison looking utterly shocked.
You felt nothing but embarrassment fill every limb of your entire body as you hid your face in the crook of Remus’s neck.
You felt the vibration of his laughter. Remus was completely unbothered. He knew James wasn’t going to do anything to him especially not after a full moon.
“Since when was this a thing?” James stated in a mix of anger and confusion.
“What’s it been, darling? Almost six months?” He said softly in your ear only causing you to turn beet red.
He laughed at your bashfulness and clarified to the boys that it had been six months.
James didn’t know what to feel, he felt betrayed, angry, and confused. Remus sighed reading his best friend’s expression. Remus knew James like the back of his hand since they had been friends for years.
“James, I’m never going to hurt her. Do you wonder why the week before full moons haven’t been as bad as usual? It’s because of her. She’s my everything now James.” Remus stated, usually he would never admit something like that but loving you and the way you treat him makes Remis want to shout how much he loves you from the rooftops.
James let out a long breath, he knew he couldn’t be mad. It was Remus after all. He watched Remus look at you and the way his eyes softened and the way small smile naturally grew on his face. You were it for him. It would take a blind fool to think otherwise.
“We’ll leave you to it.” James said softly shutting the curtain and left the two of you alone again.
Remus gave him a small nod as the curtain shut before looking down meeting your gaze.
“You mean that?” You spoke delicately.
A childish grin formed on his lips while he nodded his head
“Every damn word.”

If someone asked your peers what was one thing about you that they would say described you best, it was that you liked control.
The fear of the unknown, or better, uncertainty wasn't something you necessarily found charming. Things needed to be handled in an exact science, nothing spontaneous, no surprises.
Not that you weren't into a little fun, but even that came down to a basic formula to you. From parties, to schoolwork, to free time, and of course, to relationships. You would certainly be a RavenClaw if you weren't so ambitious.
That's why, when it first came out that you and Sirius were ‘talking,’ everyone was baffled. In hindsight, it made sense. He was a play boy who never really settled down, and you were a player yourself. Commitment meant opening your schedule to influences outside of your control. A whole other human’s thoughts and feelings, that just didn't fit into your mindset.
That meant a whole new set of rules you weren't ready to create. A whole new ecosystem to tend to. Of course, that also meant foolish things like jealousy, possession, passion. You'd rather stay as far away from that as possible.
So hooking up with Sirius was easy. It was a quick fix to clear your mind and just have a break. You had been seeing each other for months. It started over the summer when James invited you and Lily to the Potters’. You both were left unsupervised for an hour, and what were two wound up teens to do?
This symbiotic relationship followed you into year seven. You and Sirius hardly truly talked before then, but now, talk was truly on the back burner. You'd both find your release in each other and you'd leave. Simple as that. He would have someone to release any tension without having to work for it and you had your own relief without commitment. It was perfect.
Until it wasn't.
See, last week you broke your own rule. You usually never stayed over at Sirius’s dorm. You both agreed it was too intimate, but you were both exhausted, and you figured staying with him once wasn't a horrible idea. He did not complain.
Since that night, he had been acting strange. Stranger than usual, that was. He would avoid you outside of your rendezvous, suddenly too busy with Quidditch practice, without James, and personal study. You ignored it, you were never close to Sirius before so you didn't think too much about him not spending time with you.
Then came tonight. You ran your hands on his bare chest, nails raking down his flawless skin towards his abdomen. His head was thrown back in a loud groan, the music from downstairs keeping it from being anyone's but yours. Your hips rutted cruelly against his pelvis, slow and daunting. You had been at it for an hour now, your bodies were hot, sweat slipped from your forehead as you threw your head back when you managed to roll right into a sweet tender spot.
The sound you let out was ungodly, and Sirius was losing it. Fighting against his tie you used to restrain his wrists. Even in his predicament, he refused to give in. When you faltered, growing closer to coming undone, he cursed and began to thrust up. The slapping of skin was loud and horrific, and paired with his groans and soft moans, your unholy exhales and blubbering nonsense you managed to slip out your lips, it sounded more like a porno scene than a dorm room.
Your legs began to shake, you pulled your nails from his freshly pink skin and ran your fingers up his cheeks and into his hair. You closed your eyes and bit your lip, meeting his thrusts in an animalistic way. His eyes were transfixed on you. How your body was glowing in the moonlight from the window, with a thick sheen of sweat and indented skin where he bit you too hard. You looked like a masterpiece to him, something he never wanted to give up.
“I love you.”
The words slipped through his lips before he could stop it. You both reached your hazy highs. You gave a croak of a moan and fell limp against his form. He was panting and huffing as his cum coated your insides. It felt so perfect. It was perfect for him.
Then, you were untying his wrists, carefully climbing off of him too soon, and the euphoria cleared, and he knew what he had done. He watched as you got up, grabbing his towel and patting yourself dry. Tossing it onto his lap without another word.
He sat up on his elbows and watched as you got ready, putting on the thin black dress that started all of this.
“You're not staying?”
You wanted to ignore him. You wanted to snap and shout at him. If there was anyone you knew who could have kept this just a hookup, it was Sirius Black. And he betrayed your trust. And that made it so much harder.
“No.”
Sirius gave a dry laugh and fell back against his bed sheets. Running his fingers through his hair as he looked up at the ceiling. Merlin, this felt too damn familiar.
“Is it too late to pretend that didn't happen?”
You gave your own sarcastic laugh, grabbing your wand and shoes. You looked back at him, his eyes were wide and glossy, already rimming red. You were unsure if it was from the salt of his skin invading his eyes, or if he was about to cry, but you were weak to his looks. All of them.
You sighed and sat on the edge of the bed, fiddling with your heel straps.
“When?”
“What?”
“When did this become more to you?”
You could practically hear him flinch. To you. There was nothing to you. This meant nothing more than sex to you, you made that clear, but hearing it made Sirius ache.
“It always was.”
“What?”
“I’ve loved you. Since year five.”
You covered your face and groaned. You wanted to be sympathetic, but you were mad. He had been using you, this whole time, for some fantasy in his head, in a world where you were his. It made your stomach turn with guilt. How dare he make you feel guilty for this. He sat up and rubbed the back of his neck, just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
“We're done.”
“Wait-”
“Goodnight, Sirius.”
He tried to reach for you but you had already slipped on your shoes. You walked out the door as Sirius stumbled after you. Putting on his boxers and trying to follow after, not even thinking of making himself not look like hot sex.
“Hey! See ya, {Y/N}!” James called from the doorway and Sirius met his eyes trying to leave. James looked down at Sirius bewildered, he was usually long since asleep after your time together, or at least smoking in bed. His friend looked so defeated. He felt it too. “Woah, you okay mate?”
“Fuck.” Sirius hissed and leaned his back against the wall and looked up at the ceiling. James sounds of concern falling on deaf ears. Why the fuck did he say that?
~~~
“You're staring again.” Remus muttered as he stabbed his eggs with his fork. Looking up to see James’s desperate look, begging Remus to take pity on the sad fool. Remus was officially a prefect, he didn't have to stay up at night listening to Sirius’s woes about you.
“Not creepy at all, by the way. Just…” He sighed and shook his head. “Sorry, I can't lie to him. She won't even come and eat with us anymore, which also means he's banished Lily to the other side of the table too. We're lucky she even comes to our common room to hang with us.”
James rubbed his temple and Sirius scoffed, looking at Remus’s firm expression. “I've banished her? I have? Bloody hell, I caught feelings for one girl and it's my fault she ran with her tail between her legs?” It was two weeks! Two weeks and she refused to talk to him outside of pleasantries.
“Watch it, Pads. You were the one who went too far. Who confesses while they're balls deep in someone?” Remus snapped back and Peter gave a squeak of distress, coughing out a few eggs.
“Wait, what happened?” Peter whined out.
“Sirius confessed to {Y/N}. Not to mention he’s been skipping practice. Slytherin almost beat us!” James muttered and Peter looked like they said he hexed Dumbledore himself.
Remus scoffed at James' concerns.
Another thing about your reputation, everyone knew. Everyone knew you refused to entertain commitment, but Peter was also startled by Sirius’s confession.
“You confessed?” Peter questioned with an open slack mouth.
“Yes, wormtail.” Sirius snapped back.
“Woah.” He mumbled and Remus sighed.
“Let's get your mind off it, Pads, let's go smash bludgers at each other until we get told off by Pomfrey, ya?” James prodded and before Sirius could respond, he was interrupted.
“You will do no such thing. Your mother would look to me if you came back with a battered head, it's a big enough target as it is.” Lily spoke from behind him, wrapping her arms around James shoulders as he leaned back and their lips met. She broke the kiss and giggled at the love sick look on his face. “Yes ma'am.”
She rolled her eyes and pulled back slightly, looking at Sirius with a soft pitiful look and he sighed through his nose. “She told you?”
“Well.. we are best friends, she was bound to.” Lily offered cautiously as James leaned his head into her sleeve and began to nibble on her robe like a damned goat, trying to let out all his bundled up affection. Lily quickly pinched his ear to reprimand him. Making him huff with a whine.
Sirius rolled his eyes at the affectionate display and Lily attempted to move but James just wrapped her arms tighter around his neck, pulling her flush against his back. She rolled her eyes harder this time.
“On a scale from one to ten, how bad is it?” Sirius mumbled and Lily shook her head.
“Well, she feels betrayed, Sirius. She feels like you've been indulging in what isn't yours.” Sirius looked down at his food and poked around at it before he tossed his fork down. “I wasn't indulging. What we had was consensual-”
“But dishonest. And we warned you.” Lily quipped sharply and Sirius flinched a bit. Lily was always a mother-like figure, but she was especially defensive of you.
“Sorry, I just..” Sirius his voice cracked as he rubbed the bridge of his nose and Lily sighed.
“I know..” She whispered. “You did this to yourself, Sirius.”
“I know.” He whispered. He felt defeated.
Lily leaned her head on James, curtaining his face with her long red hair, the brunette is in absolute heaven with his nose pressed to her neck.
“Sirius, just be careful, okay? She's made it clear she's not going to stop her.. life over this.”
Sirius' jaw clenched. He didn't even think about that. Someone else having you the same way he did.
That was a new hell.
~~
When you were seeing Sirius, you both agreed to keep things exclusive, you both agreed that it would keep you both safe to not involve anyone else. Sirius was quickly learning that was a mistake.
He couldn't find himself entertaining a girl without thinking of you, even casuals that he had seen before you just reminded him of the way you looked in his eyes as you commanded his soul to bend to you. Their touch reminded him of your sharp nails wracking down his back as he held himself above the one woman who could truly ever break him.
Weeks without you was torture. He missed the intimacy, of course, but also you. He meant it when he said he fell for you years ago. Sirius was much in the same boat as Remus, he didn't think he deserved the more sweet love in life.
You weren't gentle, you were genuine and to the point. Blunt, no filter and rather brash. It was no wonder the girls seemed to love you. Lily was stern and more parental, Marlene was a party animal but a helpless romantic, Dorcas was hard to read but she had the same blunt air about her, and Mary was more of an observer. You tied them together like a bow. Lily's more rash side, Marlene's more rational side, Dorcas’s honest side and Mary's voice.
It also meant you were all these things to the boys when you met them. Remus and you were naturally drawn to each other, both enjoying the more quiet things. It helped you had prefect rounds together. James and you fit a lot like you'd expect, a much more stern voice of reason to his utter stupidity. Peter even bonded with you, in small comments in passing and clever one liners between you two.
Sirius, however, had to admit he thought you were nothing more than pretty. When Lily introduced you to the group, you fit in far too easily, not to mention you were a Slytherin. Though, your more no bullshit and cut throat attitude quickly turned his indifference to infatuation. It helped that you didn't even spare him the time of day in most cases.
His ideal type.
The attraction was purely sexual. It was supposed to be casual. The shared flirts, the snarky comments, the deathly teasing, only to be followed by your endless heart. When you sat with him after a bad Quidditch accident, when you sat him down and forced him to study for potions because he was failing and just didn't care. You were always there to help him out of the stupid shit he got himself into.
Yet, over the two years you'd known him, that was the most that happened between the two of you. You could hardly call each other friends, because you did that for everyone. He felt like he was nothing to you, just someone to nag and dote on. Your words always meant the world to him, and you picked them carefully, but they were never just his.
Until you were in bed together. He couldn't just let that go.
Now he had to manage to keep himself calm when you were around, because your friends were his and his were yours. He would never make them choose, and honestly, he was selfish. He wanted to be around you in any way he could.
He regrets that now.
Lily and Marlene had brought down an empty glass from their dorm room from Merlin knows what, insisting everyone gather around for a game of truth or dare.
Eventually, everyone was situated around the bottle. James was on the couch, Lily practically on his lap. Remus was on the other side, leaning back and already drinking whatever Peter had brought from their dorm room. Marlene was dancing around the room to a random AC / DC record, with her school skirt hiked up to show off her thighs, and a rich red crop top, just her tie hanging loose around her neck. She was singing a bit off key, but in a charming way.
Sirius would usually find that to be the most captivating part of the night, but every time he even glanced at her he could only think of how you would only ever dance when he coaxed you off the couch. How you'd act so terribly annoyed, before melting into his arms and laughing along with his terrible dance moves. You both would make absolute fools of yourself. It was his favorite part of the night.
Peter got up from his spot across from Sirius as someone knocked. He hurried over to the portrait and opened it, and in came Mary, Dorcus, and you.
Sirius felt his breath hitch and he looked away. James seemed to notice this, but before he could say anything to save the poor boy, Marlene gave a delighted squeal and ran up to you and Dorcas, arms around both of your shoulders. You glanced at her and both you and Meadowes shared a small hidden smile.
“Let's get this started!” Marlene shouted, you winced away at the volume right against your ear. Dorcas just looked taken. You playfully pinched her cheek and she giggled, hurrying over to sit right next to Sirius. You thinned your lips at the sight, you didn't expect them to try and rekindle whatever they had before, but if they did you.. you could be happy for them, you think. That bubbling in your throat was just left over betrayal.
Sirius, however, had his eyes narrowed on you. You ignored it, turning to start and idle conversation with Dorcas who seemed just as unsettled about the position. You put your hand on her back and rubbed it a bit as you looked at Mary who sat on your other side. She shared a sympathetic look with both of you and you bit your cheek. What was that for?
“Who's first?” Remus spoke up to break the tension, and Lily raised her hand. “Oh! Oh! Me!” She quickly spun the bottle and it twirled around to land on Peter.
The game was going steady like that, shots taken for people who refused to do their dares, pretty outlandish and good natured. Eventually, this had devolved into a modest level of chaos, until Marlene spun the bottle. She was clearly a bit tipsy, and her filter had long been dissolved.
You were still trying to keep up the sportsmanship of the game, but when Marlene asked you truth or dare there was no way in hell you'd say dare, terrified she'd ask you to streak or scream bloody murder in the middle of the courtyard. Two dares she's done before.
“Truth.” You mused with a smile and tilted your head.
“Is it true you have a new boytoy already~?” Marlene purred and leaned forward with her chin in her palm. Your face filled with dread instantly. Really? Already? She made it sound like it was some horrible offense. You were sure Sirius had found someone else too, you were never anything more than what happened between the sheets.
Your eyes flicked to Sirius, and he looked stunned. He wasn't even breathing, and you felt a sharp pain in your chest. Feeling the need to justify yourself.
“W-well, it's nothing. But yes, I guess?” You muttered out and Sirius leaned his head back and you winced. What else should you have said? Should you have lied for his sake? Did it matter? Again, you and Sirius were hardly friends.
Lily watched the interaction with wide eyes, watching as you stammered in uncertainty. Waving your hand around in aspiration. Her eyes widened and she hit James best before he could interrupt, gesturing to you. His eyes widened as even James -can't take a hint- Potter caught on to what was happening. No…
Marlene gave a gasp and leaned forward. “Woah, no wasted time, huh, {Y/N}.”
“Is it that big of a deal?” Mary offered in a quiet voice, trying to cut in. Marlene finally seemed to take the hint, and quickly stammered out and back tracked.
“N-no, of course not, just curious.” She muttered on about and tried to quickly encourage you to spin the bottle, but your eyes were locked into place by Sirius’s.
“So uhm,” Sirius cleared his throat and looked away. “Who is it?”
“Does it matter?” You whispered back. It was like you two were in your own private world. Mary put her hand on your shoulder and Dorcas slipped her hand around your lower back. Both trying to comfort you threw the confrontation. It was like everyone could see what you felt before you even knew it.
“It does to me.” He muttered in a low voice and you looked away, slowly hugging your knees and biting your cheek.
“... Barty Crouch.” You mumbled and he gave a bitter laugh, making you close your eyes.
“Really?” He practically shouted and you quickly pushed the girls off and began to stand up. “My brother’s best friend?” He gave a bitter laugh as he watched you gather your things.
“Thank you guys for tonight.” You smiled at the group, quickly trying to defuse the situation, Remus waved his hand and stood up, ready to walk you back.
“Yeah, go ahead. Walk away, again.” Sirius raised his voice and you flat out ignored him, shaking your head and walking to the door. “There she goes folks!” He shouted across the room and you simply sent him an interesting gesture over your shoulder. He scoffed.
The second the portrait closed he kicked the bottle across the room and stomped off to the stairs. “Good fucking riddance.”
He prayed it was missed, but the watery tone in the base of his throat was so painfully obvious.
~~~
You two didn't talk for another few weeks, you stayed away from the Gryffindor common room for dear life. Particularly after James pulled you aside and asked you to avoid Sirius, as his performance in Quidditch was suffering. Lily gave him a firm talking to after that. At first you scoffed it off, but ultimately you listened.
Things were dulling down, you went back to what you could control and the girls didn't entirely mind meeting in the prefect rooms. You were sitting in the mirror, combing your hair in the same black dress, ready to meet Barty up in the Ravenclaw common rooms to celebrate their win against Gryffindor.
“Are you sure you won’t be coming?” You hummed and looked over at Lily who gave a nod.
“Sorry, I’m sure Barty will look after you. I have to comfort a moping giant, I’ll be busy all night.” Lily exaggerated, making you smirk and Dorcas clear her throat.
“All night, huh?” She mused and Lily bit her bottom lip.
“Sometimes losing a game or two has its perks.” She cheeked and Mary gave a dramatic gasp. “Lily Josephine Evans!”
You gave her a scandalized look up and down. “Really now?”
“I have told you before, I can take punishment.” She pushed and Mary threw a pillow at her, making you laugh in absolute delight. You shook your head fondly, unable to stop the bright goofy smile on your face.
“You are awful.” You mumbled and put on a pair of earrings, wincing as you immediately were reminded of how much Sirius liked them. Quickly taking them out and standing up.
“Are either of you coming?” You asked Mary and Dorcas and Mary shook her head. “Sorry, me and Remus are going to study in the library.” She mused and before Dorcas could make another innuendo you sent her a look.
The stoic girl giggled like a mischievous first year. “No, I’m sorry. I have actual innocent things to do.”
You rolled your eyes before you waved them off. “I will see you three another time.”
“Talk to him!” Lily called before the other two muttered out their goodbyes between packing their things.
“Not a chance, Evans!” You shouted over your shoulder. You didn't owe Sirius a damn thing. Certainly not the time of day after the stunt he pulled.
~~~
Sirius was a mess. He had been unable to focus on anything but you for the past two miserable months. He wanted to apologize. He wanted to talk to you, he wanted to see you. You avoided him like the plague, and he didn't know if he was grateful or pissed about it.
He knew only one way to get rid of this aching irritation.
That's how he found himself in a small broom closet with Marleen, his lips were all over hers, his hands on her hips gripping hard at her exposed skin. Marlene was so different from you, but it wasn't hard. To close his eyes and imagine it was your fingers running threw his hair, your lips against his own.
When he moved to her neck, he felt your skin. He heard your voice saying his name so sweetly. “Fuck.. that's my girl.” He whispered against her skin and relished in the slight shiver she let rock her body. “I've got you, {Y/N}. I'm right here.” He breathed heavily.
There was a moment where both of them froze. There was a sharp stinging pain that ran across his jaw as Marlene, appropriately, slapped him. He groaned and stepped back, Marlene slamming the door open to storm out.
Bloody hell.
~~~
You made your way down the empty corridors, looking outside at the moonlit school grounds. It was quiet, just before curfew, not that you were too worried. You had wrapped yourself up in your school cloak and prayed Flinch cared as little as he seemed to about the proper patrols.
There was a loud crackling slap that rang through the silent hall, soon after, a door slammed open a few yards down from you. Your eyes snapped up to watch Marlene rush out of the room. Your eyes widened when you looked at eachother and she looked like a deer in headlights.
You opened your mouth to say something before Sirius stumbled out behind her, muttering a mouthful of apologies.
It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what had happened. Frazzled hair, kids bruised lips, Marlene's neck and Sirius’s… red cheek? You quickly looked away from the two and Marlene looked back at Sirius. He was staring at you with wide eyes.
She huffed and began to stomp away, leaving the two of you in an awkward silence.
“... hey.” He whispered and that snapped you out of it.
You began to walk down the hall, and he quickly ran in front of you, his hands up in front of you to try and settle you. You scoffed and looked behind you before sharply up at him. “Hey- hey, {Y/N}, it's not what you think.” He tried to defend himself. From what exactly? You had no clue.
“What? It's kind of hard to hide it.” You scoffed and gestured to his unbuckled pants. He sighed and began to fix them, your eyes looking away from him. Arms crossed as you waited for him to speak his peace. Sirius shoving his shirt into his pants to straighten himself up.
There was a long silence before Sirius spoke up again. Your eyes drifting back to him. He was a mess, he looked so apologetic. Your heart almost broke, it ached for you to just drag him back to the dorm and forget everything that happened the past few months. You blinked away the thought. No. This is exactly why you avoid relationships. You hated this hurt.
“Uhm..” He cleared his throat. “Where are you heading?”
“What?” You whispered, a bit caught off guard.
“It's not your night for rounds.” He mumbled. “I just figured, you know-”
“How do you…” Right. He would know your night schedule wouldn't he? “Ah..”
Your eyes drifted past him before you gestured to the stairs. “Well. RavenClaw is celebrating their win. Barty asked me to come.” You remarked calmly and he gave a low scoff. You took a deep breath as you prepared yourself for his next out lash.
“You just. Never went with me to the parties at Gryffindor tower is all.”
You rolled your eyes. “That's because I knew you'd be there, Sirius. You always had me those nights, didn't you?”
He stared at you and slowly nodded. “Yeah. I did.” He muttered and bit his cheek. You wanted to kiss his pout away and- Merlin what was getting into you?
“Well, if you don't mind..” You mumbled and walked past him, He quickly called out again.
“Will you uhm.. Will you be at the next game?” He called across the hall and you looked him in his eyes. He was pleading, you had never seen him so.. sad. Bruised cheek and all.
“... do you want me to, Sirius?”
“More than anything.”
You sighed through your nose. “Yes, I'll be there.”
He shook his head, slowly a shy and hesitant smile grew on his lips. “Nice.. nice.. yeah, I'll see you there.”
He stood there and stared at you for a moment. You felt like you lost the ability to breathe.
“Sirius?” You whispered and he looked you in the eyes with this sad bit of hope you knew you’d crush.
“Yeah?”
“Is that all?”
“O-oh, yeah. Yeah, I'll see you there, {Y/N}.” He mumbled and you slowly nodded. He turned and walked back to the tower.
“Yeah. See you.” You whispered to an empty corridor. You stood there for a solid minute. Debating if you should run after him or not. You wanted to. You wanted to but you knew you shouldn't.
~~~
The image of Sirius and Marlene leaving the storage room together was burned into your head. You had been avoiding him, he had a right to do anything he wanted with anyone he wanted, you had called it off.
Even so, with Barty at your neck kissing it sore and your fingers in his hair, you couldn't stop thinking about it. You went through the motions, just dismissing your own thoughts and letting Barty’s hands reach for your bra strap. He paused and you didn't even notice, still staring off out of one of the several windows. The Ravenclaw tower was just encased in them from wall to wall, and with the darkness they just looked like mirrors.
“Are you alright?” Barty whispered in your ear and you nodded.
“Yeah, sorry, just distracted.” You mumbled and he shook his head, pulling away.
“What? What's wrong?” You whispered out and he bit his cheek.
“Come on, don't play dumb.” He chuckled and fell back on a random seat in the vacant room he dragged you in.
“What?” You mumbled and he shrugged, slowly smirking.
“I may be younger, but I know that look. You have been a million miles away. I'm not gonna sleep with you while you're like that, pretty girl.”
You gave a weak and playful laugh, fixing your dress on your shoulder. “Isn't that what this is for, Crouch?”
“Ouch, Crouch?” he chuckled, standing up to pick up your discarded robe and walked behind you to wrap it around your shoulders. “I would normally agree with anything your pretty mouth uttered, but I am not Sirius. I'm not a good substitute, I can guarantee it.”
“What? Don't be crass.” You scoffed, startled with how easily he could see through you.
‘Twelve owls, I'm not an idiot.” He gave you a firm pat on your ass and pushed you on. “Go get that sad sack. I am going to go see if Evan’s is busy.”
You were stunned by the whole interaction. You bit your cheek before you turned and gave him a tight hug. He was startled by this, but slowly pulled you in. Turning you around and shoving you off.
“Okay, you're killing my buzz. Out.”
~~~
You weren't thinking. That was your excuse. When you stumbled out of the tower and walked right past the dungeons. You stopped at the fat lady, knocking on the painting and startling the her awake. She looked at you suspiciously and you gave her a nervous smile. “Just.. checking on some things.” You whispered and she seemed to buy it for the most part.
You snapped your head up as the door opened. Peter looked at you with wide eyes and you looked around him before slipping in. You walked into the common room before you turned to him. “Is James here?”
“No, just Sirius. I can-”
“No need.” You remarked quickly and turned, hurrying up the steps and leaving a baffled and confused Peter behind.
When you got to the door, you knocked quickly. You prayed no one else was there.
The door opened with a hesitance, Sirius peaked out and his eyes grew the size of saucers. “{Y/N}-”
“Are you alone?” You breathed and he quickly nodded. You stepped in and closed the door behind you. Pressing your back to it. Sirius stared at you and you bit your bottom lip. There was a long silence. You didn't even think about what you planned to say when you got there.
He reached out to grab his tie and yanked him close. His lips were on yours without much coaxing needed. He gave a sigh and forced his body against yours. The door behind you jerks at the force. You ran your fingers through his hair and he groaned against your lips. “Sirius.” You whined as his hands grabbed your hips.
“I know, {Y/N}.” He whispered and you looked away, his lips falling to your neck. “I've got you.”
~~~
The next morning you woke up just an hour or so before Sirius to sneak back to your dorms. Once you got there, you passed Lily on her own walk of shame. You both looked at eachother but said nothing of the events from the night before.
You both got ready for the day, and ended up meeting up early in the Quidditch stands. Still, no one said anything about it. “How long are these games?” You asked Lily with a shiver, covering yourself up with a jumper you had taken with you this morning. Not really thinking about having to explain why you had his clothes. Why you left the tower that morning. Really, anything,
You'd don't have to, however. Lily knew. She knew the moment you looked heartbroken at Sirius that night. She knew the separation wouldn't last.
“Could be hours. James has set records with being the quickest seeker, so could even be minutes.” Lily mused and you gave a scoff of a laugh.
“That tells me nothing, you know that right?”
Lily simply smirked at you. “Like you? This morning? Why are you wearing Sirius’s jacket?” She cheeked and you gave a guilty weak smile.
“... yeah, makes sense Lily, I hope Slytherin wins.” You teased and she gave a playful scoff.
“It will take ages!”
Eventually the girls joined and you settled to watch the game.
You were finally able to witness it, what James meant when he said you had his ‘best beater’ distracted. Sirius seemed in another place the whole game. He was being pelted with the bludger, and not as quick with sending it back to their attackers. You were actually quite into the game and startled by every attack.
Sirius however, was just hovering. Trying to piece together what last night was. He didn't see you in the Slytherin stands, and he was wondering if it would be another three months before he heard your voice again. He snapped out of it just in time to send a bludger back that was aimed right to his face. He took a few steady breaths and bit his cheek.
That almost made you panic. You shot up straight as people began to boo him. You covered your face with a groan, the Slytherin stands chanting and cheering for him to continue to fumble. You didn't really think before you launched to your feet and grabbed the edge of the railing.
“Sirius!!” You screamed over the railing and he snapped around to your voice. You both locked eyes and your breath hitched. You held his eyes for a minute before you bit your lip and leaned so far forward over the railing you might've fallen. “Just win this game already! It's bloody cold out here!”
That was all he needed. You, in his house stands. In his jumper. Cheering his name. He nearly passed out. And you turned to look behind him with wide eyes. He moved on instinct. Turning sharply to smack an incoming bludger at a distracted chaser. You cheered for him, this time Lily and Mary joined you in your rowdy cheers, as Lily pulled you back from the edge.
You and the girls watched as James spotted the Snitch, in all honesty, it was the first time you paid attention to anyone else in the game.
James and the other seeker were neck and neck, but Sirius took care of that easily, hitting the bludger at the back of Regulus’s broom and spinning him out of control and giving James the chance to secure the win.
Griffindor screamed out in victory, and Sirius landed. He ran right past James, Marlene, even Alice as they went to congratulate each other, running straight for the stands, passing Lily and only lending him a moment as she laughed. “She went to the school! Think she's sneaking off to her dorm.”
“Bloody hell she is! Not after that!” He shouted, already running off the pit and not even thinking of using his long discarded broom.
You had just managed to avoid the crowds and ran straight up the stairs. You didn't even think until you find yourself in the astronomy tower. You began to pace. You wanted him. You wanted him so bad. You wanted this so bad. The flash of Sirius coming to mind as the final horse crossed the finish line. You were in love with Sirius black. Oh Merlin, have mercy on your soul.
“{Y/N}! {Y/N}!”
Speak of the damned devil.
You turned from your perch on the railing, staring down at Sirius as he stood in the courtyard just below you. Like you were once again, watching him from the stands.
“Sirius!” You shouted down without thinking. He looked up at you and it looked like a scene from a fairy tale. He was looking at you with this stupid smile on his face, a smile you just wanted to kiss so bad.
“How did you get up there so quick!?” He shouted up at you, drawing a small crowd and you laughed. “Did you win!?”
Sirius couldn't even bring himself to be offended that you didn't stay for the end of the match. “We did!” He shouted up and you bit your lip, absolutely love struck with a bright smile. “I'm coming up!” He shouted and you closed your eyes tight, leaning forward over the edge again.
“Sirius Orion Black!” You shouted down and now a crowd was forming. But you could only see each other. He stared up at you with a quirked eyebrow. “Yeah?!”
“I-” You choked out a whisper before you shook your head.
“Sirius Black I'm in love with you! I love your stupid face! Your pretty smile! Your dumb eyes!” You shouted and he took a few steps back with a shocked look. Quickly shoving his way past the crowd to make his way up the stairs to you. You had your eyes closed, you didn't even notice as he left. “I love your stupid dance moves! I love when you hold me! I love when you make those stupid jokes no one else gets but us! I love you, Merlin I fucking love you!” You screamed across the entire courtyard, breath heavy as you slowly opened your eyes and your heart dropped. Where did he-
Suddenly, there were a pair of arms around your abdomen that yanked you from the railing. You squealed and Sirius spun you around. Setting you down and laughing as you looked up at him. Your eyes met and he bit his lip. “{Y/N}?”
“Yeah?” You whispered in faux innocence.
“I fucking love you too.”
He grabbed your cheeks and yanked you into a kiss. It was heavy and intense; your hands found his cheeks in return. You were both so wrapped up with each other, you didn't even notice a much closer audience before you heard Lily clear her throat. Sirius looked up and was greeted by Lily, Mary, Marlene, everyone. Even Peter who all seemed a bit winded. “Leave it to Sirius Black to get {Y/N} {L/N} to do something spontaneous.” Remus muttered and you didn't even seem to notice them. Yanking Sirius into another love filled kiss. Sirius had no qualms with this.
[SUMMARY: Joel acts like he doesn’t like you until he comes across your rapist.]
TW: MENTION OF RAPE. Angst
“What did he do?” His voice was low, eerie like, suddenly he looked angry as you stood still before him.
Ever since Tess had died Joel became more unbearable to deal with. The two of you had only known each other a couple months before she passed away but never got close to one another, if anything Joel acted like he didn’t like having you around. He barely held any conversations with you unless it involved a plan he needed you to be on the same page with him about. Silently he’d share food with you but that was pretty much as far as he’d go.
“Get up, we’re gonna keep moving today” Joel woke you up out of your sleep gathering his belongings as you sighed.
“I thought you said we’d stay here for two nights-“
“Plans changed. We’re leaving soon” you groaned as you got on your feet and began to pack. This journey to Marlene seemed a lot longer than you thought it would be.
“Are you sure Marlene even has what you want?” You asked with a sigh. He didn’t respond instead handing you your weapon so you could follow him out.
Walking with Joel through the woods your foot accidentally slid down a rock making you gasp loudly. Joel quickly turned with his knife ready to attack only to find you straightening your shirt.
“I slipped” he didn’t respond only looking irritated and turned back to continue walking. You didn’t understand why Joel always seemed so bothered by you, had he not promised Tess that he’d look after you, he wouldn’t have stuck around with you. Tess never shared to him the true reason why she wanted him to care for you but when you first met her you had confided in her the brutal things that you overcame. One of them being that you were held captive for a couple months by a group not far out, one of the men in their group being your rapist, you were always afraid to come across this man again. Little did Tess know, this very same man was running things alongside Marlene.
“Joel, have I done something to upset you at any point?” You asked trying to keep up with him.
“No” he responded without looking your way.
“So what’s your issue?”
“I don’t have a damn issue, now let’s keep moving” you gave up at that point not saying a word. Joel truly didn’t have a specific issue with you, he just chose to not allow himself to get close to anyone ever again, he had lost too much.
Finally making it to Marlene’s you followed behind Joel walking in. You had no idea whom Marlene was or anything about the place but being with Joel you just did as he said. Standing beside him a few feet away you were introduced to Marlene. She seemed like a woman who was strictly about business, she spoke to him of the car she had promised.
Of course, tomorrow it would be ready.
You didn’t speak during their conversation, not thinking much of anything until the door opened and a man walked in. Instantly your heart sunk, your stomach turned as the man stood by Marlene confidently before noticing you.
“This is my right hand man, he does what I say, when I say and can always be counted on” Marlene introduced the man beside her, you found yourself unable to speak. You knew who this man was, how could you not?
Edward….you’d never forget his name, one year ago this man made your life a living hell. Your throat felt like it was closing up, your heart racing-
“Look who it is” Edward grinned towards you making Marlene raise a brow at you. Joel turned to you as you looked down taking a deep breath.
“Small world” Marlene muttered but Joel noticed something off with your reaction.
“Anyways, Joel” Marlene got his attention explaining what would happen.
“Tomorrow before the evening I should have a car for you, for now you two can stay in a room I have prepped” Joel didn’t like the idea of staying an extra day but silently nodded and took the offer. Thankfully Edward and Marlene left the room before someone else led you to the room you would both stay in. Your heart felt like it would come out your chest but you couldn’t find it in you to speak. Joel walked ahead of you opening the door to the room. You stood by the door closing it behind you watching as he placed his backpack on the bed without looking back. Your body felt as if it would collapse any moment, you couldn’t stay here, you couldn’t be around Edward yet you knew you couldn’t say a thing.
That night Joel noticed you seemed a bit fidgety but he didn’t say a word. He lay back on his bed and watched as you double checked the locks on the door twice before laying down.
“You know we’re safe here right?” You looked up not noticing Joel had been watching you.
“Y-yeah” you nodded before turning over and facing the wall. That night you didn’t sleep, if anything you hoped Joel would sleep so he wouldn’t hear you crying in the middle of the night. Of course that didn’t work, at one point Joel opened his eyes thinking he was hearing something but he couldn’t make out what it was until he looked over and noticed you seemed like you were trembling. Quickly he sat up unsure of what to do, slowly he got up from the bed and noticed you were whimpering in your sleep. He didn’t know what the hell to do, he’d never seen you like this before but he knew damn well what it felt like. Delicately he placed his hand on your shoulder and tried to wake you.
“Hey” you continued to whimper but wouldn’t open your eyes. Joel cleared his throat and leaned in closer to you prepared for you to be startled.
“Hey wake up” he shook you a little harder making your eyes quickly open. You gasped unaware who was near you, unaware that you had even been dreaming, raising your hand ready to hit whoever it was Joel caught your wrist in mid air.
“Easy, honey”
You looked up at him confused, you hadn’t even realized you fell asleep now here was Joel looking down at you with concern. Once he was sure that you knew it was him, he released your arm as you tried to catch your breath.
“I’m sorry” you whispered.
“It’s alright, just havin’ a bad dream is all” he looked at you for a moment curious to ask you what was it that made you so upset but didn’t say a word.
“I’m right here if you need me” he motioned towards the bed on the other side of the room. You quietly nodded and watched as he got back into bed. Turning away from him you could feel the embarrassment from what had just happened yet you were surpsied by how gentle he handled it. It was a new side you both had seen of each other.
The next day you did your best to stay clear from wherever Eduardo could be, and so you decided to stay in the room.
Just one more day of this, one day and you’d be gone. Joel explained to you that he would be going over something with Marlene leaving you by yourself. You assured him it was fine and sat on the bed reading a book you always carried around after making sure the door was locked. Sometime had passed when you heard the door unlock and you figured it was Joel. Laying comfortably facing the wall you flipped the page hearing the door close behind you.
“What happened with Marlene?” You asked when you felt the touch of a hand on your arm making you turn to see it was the very person you had been trying to avoid.
Edward
Quickly you jumped up, your back against the wall as he smirked at your reaction.
“It’s been a while” you couldn’t speak, you couldn’t believe he was right in front of you.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost” he chuckled placing his hand on your thigh. If you could move any further away you would’ve, he could see how anxious he made you.
“Relax, sweetheart I’m not gonna do anything” he licked his bottom lip pushing his hand further up your thigh.
“I just wanted to say hi to an old friend”
He leaned in and kissed your cheek as you tried to turn away.
“It’s a shame you’re leaving tomorrow, thought we could’ve had some fun” he laughed walking back out of the room and closed the door shut.
In shock you sat there with disgust, the simple touch or his hand on your thigh making you sick to your stomach.
You couldn’t do this, you didn’t care about a damn car no matter how badly you both needed it. Quickly you got up running to the door locking it shut once again afraid he would return.
Where the hell was Joel…all you wanted to do was leave.
After what felt like forever you finally heard the door begin to unlock, your heart jumping at the sound.
“Joel?” You called out worriedly to see his face as soon as the door opened.
“Yeah, it’s me” he walked past you not noticing the panic attack you were feeling in that moment.
You watched as he fold a paper and placed it in his backpack, a knot in your throat you struggled to speak.
“Joel” you finally were able to utter a word in a soft whisper. Going through his backpack he didn’t respond not having heard your voice. You struggled to speak again, stomach turning just at the thought of your rapist knowing where you were…the fact that he came to you when you were alone..
“Joel” you spoke a little louder where he was able to hear you.
“Yea” he responded as he zipped up his bag.
“Joel…I can’t stay here another night” you blurt out.
“What?” He asked confused with your statement still not looking back.
“We’re fine here, it’s just till the afternoon’” he assured you making your panic rise.
“No, I…Joel I can’t stay here” he noticed how your voice trembled and slowly turned to you. His eyebrows furrowed once he noticed the worry in your eyes.
“What’s the matter?” He stood straight fully facing you.
“Can we just go?” You didn’t want to give the reason, you didn’t want to speak of it.
“We’re getting the car tomorrow, its just one more night-“
“Joel please” you whispered taking a deep breath making him take a step closer. He stood silent, he could tell something had terrified you.
“Somethin’ happen while I was gone?” He asked making you quickly shake your head.
“No, no just please-“ you began to hyperventilate.
“I can’t, I can’t-“ you struggled to breathe when someone knocking on the door made you run into Joels arms. Confused he looked down at you slowly placing his hands on your back sensing the true horror you felt.
“Hey, hey it’s alright, it’s alright” he whispered feeling you shake in his arms. It was like the night before, all over again only this time something in your waking life was scaring the shit out of you. The sound of another knock making you grab onto his shirt.
“Give me a minute!” He called out feeling you hide your face against his chest.
“Hey” he whispered low looking down at you but before he could say another word Edwards voice heightened your fear.
“It’s me, Edward” your eyes widened as you silently began to shake your head.
“What is it, darlin’?” Your panic not allowing you to realize the softness Joel had in his voice with concern over you. The door suddenly opening sending you rushing behind Joel.
Edward appeared at the door.
“I was just making sure you guys had what you needed” a smile Joel didn’t trust appeared on his lips as he leaned over to get a peak at you. You felt Joel’s hand reach behind you holding you against him.
Edward could see the defensive look in Joel’s eyes and wondered if you had told him anything.
“What’s wrong with her?” He asked testing what he would say.
“I got her” is all Joel responded with as Edward looked at him curiously. Not saying another word Edward took a step back giving Joel a nod before leaving the room. Joel waited until he disappeared from his site before giving your thigh a tap behind him.
“He’s gone” he assured you making you slowly peak over his shoulder to see the empty hallway that led to the room. Quickly you ran to the door shutting it closed and locking it with each lock it had.
“We need to get our stuff and get out of here now” you ran to grab your bag and his before he tried to stop you.
“Wait a minute, wait-“ he grabbed you by your arms stopping you before you grabbed anything else. Joel was struggling to understand what exactly had you so afraid of this man.
“Joel, we need to go-“
“Talk to me for a minute”
“No! There’s nothing to talk about, I am not staying here!” You screamed trying to break free from his hold.
“What the hell did he do to you?!”
“Nothing!” You tried to shake his hands off you once more but failed.
“We can’t leave without that car, we need that car if we wanna make it-“
“I don’t care! I’m not staying here with him!”
“He’s not gonna do anything to you, darlin’ I promise you that-“ you shook your head in frustration that he wasn’t understanding.
“He won’t lay a finger on you-“
“He already has!” You suddenly blurt out silencing Joel. An intense look in his eyes as he took a deep breath looking down at you.
“What did he do?” His voice was low, eerie like, suddenly he looked angry as you stood still before him.
“It was long ago” you whispered.
“Doesn’t matter” he quickly responded.
“I had told Tess, I never thought I would see him again….it was a year ago…I had nowhere to go and he said he would help me. He’s the man who raped me.” you looked down as a tear rolled down your cheek.
“Did he come in here while I was gone?” He leaned in closer. You looked up and hesitantly nodded when he abruptly walked out past you charging down the hall.
“Joel!” You called out for him trying to keep up but all Joel could see was red.
“What are you doing?!” You yelled as he kicked the door open where Marlene and Edward both were. Without warning he yanked up Edward by his collar throwing him against the wall as Marlene stood up.
“Joel what the hell are you doing?”
“Stay out of this” he looked at her with a look you had never seen and grabbed Edward once again as he struggled to get on his feet.
“Whatever she said she’s a lying bitch!” He tried to poorly defend himself causing Joel to punch him repeatedly. In shock you stood in the doorway watching it all play out, Joel had lost complete control until Edward was a bloody mess.
“Oh my god-“ you whispered.
Joel stood up and walked towards Marlene who backed up not knowing what he would do.
“Give me the fucking keys” he spoke out of breath. Not even trying to fight him she opened the drawer and tossed him the car keys before he looked back at Eduardo.
“Should be more careful of who you have workin’ for ya. Got a rapist on your hands” Joel walked out of the room without looking at you in the eye, taking your hand he led you out.
In disbelief you walked alongside him trying to keep up, at one point looking behind you.
He still wouldn’t say a word.
Joel opened the car door for you and quickly got in the drivers seat before driving off.
Speeding down the road he didn’t take his eyes off it before abruptly pulling over. You could see him though the corner of your eye turning his body fully toward you, you didn’t know what to expect.
“You don’t ever keep somethin’ like that from me again. We clear?” You nodded in silence looking down at your lap.
“We would’ve never stayed there for even one night had I know what he done to you. You ever feel unsafe again I need ya to tell me and you tell me right away”
“Yes Joel” you whispered.
Turning back towads the road he pulled off feeling he came off kind of harsh towards you which wasn’t what he wanted. Unexpectedly you felt him place his hand on your lap bringing you a sense of calmness. He slowly entangled his fingers with yours without looking your way, you had no idea what this meant but one thing was for sure..
Joel made you feel safe.
HOPELESSLY DEVOTED TO YOU — remus lupin.
SUMMARY. — remus can’t help himself, he has to take it off of you.
PAIRING. — remus lupin x halfblood!fem!reader
WARNINGS. — smut; unprotected sex (wrap it up pls!); not much plot but still some;
A/N. — i need some requests! send me some requests!🙏🏻
it’s the first party Lily and James are hosting at their new house, and it oh so happens to be a halloween one. after hours of fighting, your friend group settled on making it costume themed, which has made it tough for you to figure something out.
good for you, your fiancé is a very creative man. not so keen on playing dress-up, but creative nonetheless. you spent a few hours deciding what to wear, and in the end you settle on going as Sandy and Danny from Grease, a musical that over the last few months became your and Remus’ favorite movie.
you can hear Remus grumbling out in the living room, and you giggle to yourself as you finish putting on the bold red lipstick. your eyes focus on your reflection in the mirror, up and down your body in that tight costume, your maroon heels clicking against the floor when you step away from the counter. you ruffle up the curls you made with a muggle curling iron Lily had borrowed you for the occasion, and you leave the bathroom in a jumpy stroll.
„m’ready, Remy!” you hum softly, making your way over to where you’re sure he’s waiting for you, having the biggest smile on your face when you see him.
even though you knew who you were going as, you two decided to keep the exact look of your costumes a secret up until this moment. you think he looks amazing, he always does to you. he’s a bit down spiritually, considering the full moon is in about a week, but he definitely put his best into this. for you.
„you look handsome!” you put your hands on his chest, eyes grazing over his tall figure, and you hear him sigh. his dark caramel hair is brushed back with a lot of gel and styled to mimic Danny’s, the scars on his face faint and whitened from the time that’s passed since he got them. he’s wearing the costume well, simple black t-shirt that clings to his lanky body, black jeans that are taut on him, and of course, a leather jacket.
„thanks, dovey. you look fabulous.” he murmurs, resting his hands on the swell of your hips, thumbs brushing over your hipdips affectionately. he was leaning against the arm of the sofa, and now he stands up, raising his eyebrows.
you nod, and his arm wraps around your middle, hand on your lower back, and he smoothly apparates you both outside the Potter’s house in Godrick’s Hollow. your fingers intertwine as you make your way inside, the party already in full swing. Lily greets you, dressed as Sally Hardesty, and you compliment her outfit while hugging her. she moves on quickly though, going to greet new guests.
as you walk through the house with Remus practically attached at your hip, you see James and Sirius already dancing on the coffee table in the living room. Black dressed as David Bowie, and James… well, you assume is Leatherface (deducting from Lily’s costume), but honestly it’s hard to tell.
you split with Remus when Mary, Dorcas and Marlene drag you away from him, making you take some shots with them and dance.
and oh, you dance a lot. you’ve always loved dancing, your muggle mom being a dance teacher at a prestige academy. when you were little, before you went to Hogwarts, you used to always follow your mom to her private lessons. even now, despite not living in the muggle part of London, you love to wander to those parts of town, looking in windows at dancing studios.
somehow you end up upstairs (smoking some pot with Peter probably hasn’t been the best idea), walking through the hallway with your head turning left and right, watching the walls as if they are the most interesting thing you’ve seen tonight. suddenly you feel a harsh tug, someone pulling you into a bathroom, and you’re ready to scream before Remus’ scent envelopes your senses.
„Merlin, you scared me!” you hit his shoulder, frowning confused as you feel his hands glide all over your body, touching and kneading your flesh.
„sorry. need you.” his mumble against the column of your throat is barely audible, and you pull him away for a moment by tugging at the ends of his hair.
you know he gets like that, soon before the full moon. needy. possessive. heated. sometimes it’s almost like the wolf in him takes over, trying to keep you as close to him as possible, trying to mark you up. you can tell he’s drunk too, his pupils dilated, his breathing rapid.
you only smile, waving your to cast muffliato over the room, so that you won’t be overheard. you also cast colloportus to keep the door locked for anyone who could accidentally walk in on you two.
before you can turn your head back to him, he’s already tugging your shirt off, unclasping your bra, letting both things fall to the cold floor. he stares at your tits, just for a while, quickly leaning in and wrapping his lips around one of your nipples. while his mouth works on your left boob, his hand squeezes and plays with the right one, and you throw your head back in quiet pleasure. he’s got you pinned against the door, the handle digging into your side, but you don’t mind it.
aware of the fact you can’t stay in here for much time, you gently push him off you, dropping to your knees. you grit your teeth when they hit the tiles, your hands reaching out to unbuckle his belt, fighting with it for a few seconds before Remus helps you. he throws the belt away, unzipping his pants and pulling them down along with his boxers. his cock springs out, painfully hard, slapping over his lower torso.
your mouth always waters at the sight of it, the throbbing ache between your thighs always doubling. it’s not very impressive in girth, but it’s long. like nine inches long. uncut, of course. your hand wraps around his base, giving it a gentle stroke, and Remus lets you just have your fun with it for a bit. not for too long though, because he soon gets impatient, and pats your hands away.
his own hand grabs his dick, and he steps closer, slapping his shaft against your cheek.
„open up, dovey.” he rasps out, and once you open your mouth, he puts the tip of his cock on your stuck out tongue, making a tsch sound. with a snap of his hips, he wastes no time pushing his junk further down your throat, making you gag and spit up. he’s mean tonight, set on what he wants, so he doesn’t pull out. he starts to thrust in and out, shallow at first, then grabs a handful of your hair to tug your head in closer. “you like that, huh? i sure as hell do. looking so fucking perfect for me on your knees like that.”
the way he talks, the way his thrusts grow faster and sharper, the way he pulls your hair to control your head movement. it all leads to you clutching your hands at his thighs, tears prickling at the corners of your eyes, and your legs squeezing closed. you reach out, taking hold of his balls and kneading them between your fingers, happy as you hear the grunts escaping his mouth. finally he lets go of you, allowing you to breathe (or more like heave) for not even a minute before he grabs your arm and yanks you up. you grasp the edge of the bathtub, leaning down slightly, your ass on his crotch level.
you tilt your head back, wanting to watch him, and he hooks his fingers into the waistband of your tight leather pants, harshly pulling them down to your ankles. he rips your thongs off, and when you yelp in a form of protest, he slaps your asscheek hard.
“wanted to take those damn pants off the moment you left our bathroom.” Remus whispers, leaning over to nip at your earlobe, his slender digits grazing over your soaked cunt. “fuck, dove, you’re so wet. guess you wanted that as much as i did.”
“Remy, shit…” you whimper as he pushes two fingers in right away, and honestly they go in so smoothly, you’re surprised. he seems surprised too, letting out a low chuckle and pressing a kiss behind your ear, then straightens up.
he stretches your hole for a few minutes, adding a third finger, pumping in and out, curling his fingers inside you to hit the spot he knows makes you see stars. he even lets you come undone on his fingers, your orgasm crushing over you rather suddenly, and you can feel your pulse quicken rapidly.
he doesn’t let you ride out your orgasm though, removing his fingers to replace them with his cock. he’s not gentle about it either, immediately taking up a rough pace, hips slamming into yours in reckless abandon.
you arch your back, moans and whines you let out getting more obscure with each thrust, and you reach back, trying to wrap your arms around his neck while not facing him. he helps you, hands moving from your hips to your waist and pulling you closer, resting his chin on your shoulder as he fucks into you.
“that’s it. so good to me, dovey. taking my cock like a pro.” he coos in your ear affectionately, fingers tracing mindless patterns over your stomach and his pace slows down. “gonna take my load too? or should i cum all over this gorgeous ass of yours?
you know he’s close, he practically always slows down when he’s close to cumming, and you can’t do much more than just nodding your head, feeling like mush in his embrace.
he clicks his tongue, slapping your tit lightly, and whispers. “use your words. can’t take a fucking nod as an answer.”
“inside, Remy. y’can cum inside.” you breathe out, the shakiness in your voice a clear indicator that you’re chasing your next release too. his hands rest on your chest at last, and he’s panting in your ear, while you let out a moan so high-pitched you would’ve cringed at it, if it wasn’t for the fact you’re getting fucked senseless right now.
his hips snap against yours a couple more times before he buries himself inside you completely, moaning and grunting as he stills, cumming deep into your cunt that’s squeezing him and clenching around him so deliciously. you climax at the same time, your legs giving up on you so you lean on Remus mostly, heaving and rasping for air.
it takes you both a while to come back to your senses, but when you do, Remus is peppering kisses over the side of your neck and shoulder, mumbling quiet praises.
“d’ya wanna go home, dovey?” he asks you as your pulse and breathing go back to normal, and you turn in his arms, letting his dick slide out of you.
“yeah. let’s go home.”
can u do something w james potter? a transfer student from america comes to hogwarts and he’s all love at first sight😭❤️do anything u want w it :)
Short n sweet but a good way to get back into writing<3
Your new friends are splayed in the room in front of you. Sirius is sprawled over Remus on the couch, watching him, very lackluster, doing his homework. Mary and Lily are squished into an armchair across from you and James, tangled limbs and giggles as Marlene lay on the rug in front of the fire with Dorcus, tired after supper feast.
The Scottish highlands were a drastic difference from the America you knew. The shops, the people, the boys. Everything seemed so hard to squeeze into. Your accent pushed you away from the people, and your culture pushed you away from fitting in. But they helped. The silly band of tired teens in front of you never once let you stand outside the circle of friendship they’d had formed years before your arrival.
“I could take you to hogsmeade? You know, to look around.” James looks up at you from where he leans against your arm. You sit higher than him, leg draped across his own. It makes his skin tingle.
He’s been a nonstop stream of words ever since supper, only pausing to stuff dining hall food into his mouth. He swears he doesn’t know what he’s going to do when he graduates, the dining haul being a necessary location in his schoolboy life.
He adds factually. “You know they actually have-“
“James,” Sirius snaps, a rubber band stretched too far. “Please.”
“What?”
Sirius only sighs. He doesn’t mean to be cruel to his closest friend.
James’ eyes flit around the room self consciously. All of his friends stare. Very unimpressed.
“What?” He repeats again, a little more desperate, a little more whiny.
“James,” Remus says gently. “Let her breathe.”
James looks to you suddenly, flames coloring his cheeks in the hue of orange light flickering off the grand fire.
It’s apparent James is embarrassed. His silence works its way into the cracks between Mary and Lily, the lulls in conversation between Remus and Sirius, until it becomes too much to handle. Sirius feels bad, he really does, but the way Remus shakes his head disappointedly fills him with something stubborn.
The vibe of the room is ruined subsequently. The boys go up to the dorm, Mary and Lily slip into their own room, shared kisses following, and you find the tangle of girls In front of the fire asleep, Marls arm tugging Dorcas closer.
“It’s okay,” you rush once everyone’s gone. “Hogsmeade sounds fun.”
“Are you sure?” James is insecure, quiet now, away from his friends ears.
You nod adamantly. “We didn’t have anything fun at Ilvermorny.”
He’s out of it now, heated in the face and embarrassed. He doesn’t mean to turn himself away from you, but his friends gnaw at him. They were well-meaning, but that doesn’t stop the green rumble of insecurity coursing through his body. He feels it so intensely he fears he may need to slip upstairs and go to sleep.
“Hey,” You murmur quietly searching for his eyes. When he gives them to you, you look up at the flushed boy through your eyebrows. “Just you and me?”
He stutters for the first time since he met you. “Yeah- uh, yeah, just me and you, sounds cool.”
You nod, leaning over to kiss the side of his mouth sweetly. He reels.
“Don’t be embarrassed.” You whisper, slipping out of the armchair.
“I’m not.” He insists.
You smile, squeezing his arm. “I know.”
He watches you walk up to your dormitory, a hunger in his eyes and a part in his lips.
“We’re not asleep.” Marlene grins. Dorcas snores and Marls opens her eyes. “Well, maybe she is.”
James flinches harshly. “Oh, fuck off.”
I'm not afraid of you now I'm not afraid of you now villain and violent infant and innocent baby both arms cradle you now I'm not afraid of you now. - "Forwards Beckon Rebound" by Adrienne Lenker.
"Russell Adler, I've been expecting you." He hears her cold voice, thickened with disdain and perhaps resentment, which was ironic that he should be displaying such... dislike towards her instead of the way around for giving him so many emotional scars than his time in Vietnam had given him. "I see we bear similar scars now," Marlene, the little terror who's been a painful thorn to his side, simply sat in front of him on some wooden stool as she nodded at his neck.
Just the opposite sides, kid...
"I wasn't expecting a warm welcome, but..." He stated blankly and tried readjusting his restraints. "I would've expected to be somewhere more reclusive... instead of the same room you entrapped me."
"Don't worry, this isn't my safe house. It's just... temporary." Those empty brown eyes of hers bore into his cold blue ones. His sunglasses remained on the creaky wooden floor. "So, I just removed the tracker from your pocket what you intended to put into me and put it in some fishing shop into fish bait. That's gonna be an interesting trip for your little jarheads." She chuckled dryly and played with the sharp edges of the silver blade.
"You never intended to kill me." He broke the silence after a moment of Marlene staring at him. As if she was inspecting the insect caught in a harmless trap.
"Why should I? Getting rid of you doesn't really benefit me," She leaned forward with her knife, the point end flipping to downwards with the handle in her grip. "You're just an CIA officer with not much value for me. Just one of those... potential casualties. I'd rather just let your job do it for me. I learnt a lot from my mother and the organization that taken me in."
"Astraea."
Marlene just stared at him and an unsettling smile dipped onto her features. "Of course, did you know that mercy isn't always a good thing? Especially the one receiving it? That's the lesson I learnt as a child and relearnt it the year after we first met. So, sparing you wasn't an act of kindness. Otherwise, it would've been nothing more a waste of my time." She reached over to fix his hair and paused to grip the scalp. "It's something you should consider learning for yourself."
Adler almost wants to laugh at that and not out of genuineness. More like sarcastically. It made him think these people were creating a merciless killer more than some obedient soldier, he doesn't really want to know if her mother was worst or not.
Marlene Monroe obviously knows what she is doing, and of course, he'll immediately believe she grew up like an seasoned field operator. What kind of mother teaches their child to be a soldier and to withstand torture in a long capacity? And Adler once believed he could've controlled her like he did with Bell a year ago.
He would've been easily compromised like now.
She let go of his scalp and went back to fiddling with the knife in her hands. "My time with them... made me realized we're not so different each other, although there was one difference that stood out. I had more freedom... and then when they took me in by force, it wasn't long before I felt true isolation. You and my previous interrogators in the past made me feel like I had an opportunity to leave the black hole before, but with them..." Marlene slowly leaned in again. "It was like there was no hope for me at all. Just absolute no way out until they just put you to better use. Nothing can make you feel that way compared to their ways."
Adler stayed still and barely budged from her intense gaze. "So the next time we meet and we will... perhaps I can show you what hell is truly like. It's nothing compared to your little MKUltra methods and all. Then maybe... maybe we'll see that little facade of yours break. Soldiers like you break eventually. They always do." She nodded with a little hum and lightly tapped his chin with the end of her knife.
"What happened to going home?" He had to ask since the last time he'd seen her, she was determine to do Astraea's dirty work in exchange to going home. Yet she was still here, continuing to be the war criminal he's hunting down.
Marlene tapped the knife on her own chin and looked thoughtful before rolling her shoulders. "There's nothing for me to go back to. You'll know the feeling of being seen as an actual villain someday, Russell Adler. Trust me, there's no worser feeling than your loved ones seeing you as the bad guy and eventually becoming one." She stood up from her seat towards a silver briefcase to unlock it.
"Now, I have very important matters to attend to than to entertain you and your whack jobs. So... until then, Russell Adler." Marlene finished before putting on a respirator and some little canister inside released gas. "Nighty night." Those empty brown eyes intently stared straight at his face to watch the drug take effect on him.
Adler felt his vision blurring and breathing became heavier. Little dots that slowly turned bigger filled his vision and it wasn't long before he completely blacked out.
Until then...
-
a.n: Beautiful artwork goes to the lovely @sleepyconfusedpotato and on my god, I loved this piece so much! This is more of a concept on how Adler tries to reach and confront the rotting apple of his eye who gave him fresh scars as she explains how she was taught and etc while he was restrained. This wasn't proofread either, so I apologize for any bad grammar detected.
across - Jegulus Microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - word count: 294
It was early. The sun had barely started to peek above the horizon and James didn't want to leave the comfort of the warm bed he was curled up in. But Quidditch practice called, and as the captain, it was a bad look to be late.
So, pulling away from the other person in the bed, he places a soft kiss on his head and mumbled softly, "Bye, love. Have a good morning," all while smiling adoringly.
His only response was a groan, so he chuckled and slipped out of the bed curtains.
Of course, he couldn't just walk out of the room. Nobody knew he was there. So he crept slowly, not bothering to throw on the Invisibility Cloak because of the hour, and tip-toed down the stairs to the Common Room. All was going very well, until he looked across to the opposite staircase and saw-
"Marlene?" he gasped, forgetting who he was and where he was.
"James?" the girl whisper-screamed, eye wide. "What the fuck are you doing here?"
Of course, then it hit him. "I...er..." he stumbled on his words, because the honest truth was that he had no reason for being in the Slytherin Common Room at 4:30am. "I..."
But Marlene was too smart for him. A huge smile formed on her face and she said happily, "You are dating Regulus, aren't you? Dorcas really thought so and I told her there was no way, but-"
"Dorcas?" James interrupted, breaking into his smug grin. "Is that who you've been with? Dorcas Meadowes?"
Marlene turned bright red and snapped her mouth shut, swallowing loudly. "Fine," she said after a moment. "I didn't see you and you didn't see me."
"Deal," James laughed. "See you in an hour at practice?"
"Yup."
Rain, Cinnamon, Cologne, and Conditioner
pairing: sirius black x reader
summary: Amortentia week is always chaotic. Especially so when you're lab partners with longtime frenemy sirius black
warnings: Language maybe, fic from reader's pov
a/n: been forever since i wrote for a marauder, lets hope this is acceptable 🙏🏻
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although Slughorn certainly meant well, there was simply nothing that one could do to hate him a bit less during Amortentia week. Dramatic breakups preceded by "What do you MEAN you smell my sister's perfume!?", and hasty love confessions followed by immediate regret, for a spectator like me this was the best week ever at Hogwarts.
The class smelled faintly of rain and cinnamon to me, a lingering effect of the neighboring cauldrons.
"I honestly have no idea what I'm supposed to be smelling here, like, I am certain no one has smelled this exact smell before."
"James, come on, that is clearly Lavender."
"What?"
"I smell Lavender!" she said, weirdly enthusiastic about the smell.
"Lily, honey, say that again but slowly."
It took her a minute before she realized. Even the smartest people get confuddled sometimes. Of course, she'll never know what it smelled like to him.
Somewhere in the back, I saw Lucius Malfoy almost poke some poor kid's eye out with his wand, and next to his table was Severus Snape, staring menacingly into a cauldron that definitely did not have Amortentia in it. He was a weird kid. Creeps me out still.
Anyway, that brings us to Sirius and I, who couldn't agree on who gets to put the sneezewort in.
"After you," I said, not wanting to bear the brunt of what will follow. You see, Sneezewort gets its name from the fact that whenever it's added to a potion, it produces a puff of smoke that causes those closest to sneeze for a good entire minute.
"Oh, no, go ahead. I insist."
"Well, I insist more."
"I insist the most, then."
"Sirius, come on."
"Hey, you started it!"
"Well, you end it. I don't want to keep sneezing!"
"Oh, good, because it's my favorite hobby, sneezing incessantly."
There was no compromise in sight. That is, until-
"Alright Sirius, I'll tell you what. You convince Peter to do this, I'll get Marlene to go with you to Hogsmeade. For real this time."
"Please, I don't need you to be my wingman, I'm perfectly charming all on my own, thank you very much," he said, signature smirk decorating his face.
"You know you need my hel-"
"Yes I do, I was kidding, thank you so much, I love you."
I shook my head and laughed while waiting for Peter to take whatever bait Sirius was laying out. Sure, he was presumptuous and annoying, and the banter was endless, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't look forward to it every day at this point.
After Remus begrudgingly dragged a red-in-the-face Peter away from our table, we stirred the potion 3 times, and all that was left was to add the pieces of Lovelog. We added them at the same time and instinctively held our breaths and waited for the potion to turn pink, which it did. However, it didn't work.
"Dude, I smell nothing."
"Yes, thanks for pointing it out, (Y/n). Extremely astute observation. 10 points to Gryffindor."
"Oh, okay, sure, be all haughty after fucking up the potion."
"I fucked up? That's presumptuous! For all we know, you screwed up."
"Please, I used Slughorn's recipe down to the smallest detail there is no way it was me. You were the one who kept taking off to 'charm Marlene with your smile' every 5 minutes."
"Hey. I'm playing the long game and it will work. Eventually. Just- Admit that you screwed up, please?"
"Oh, no, no we are not doing this. Remus, could you come here, please?"
"Me? Oh, no, love. I am not getting involved with this," said Remus, vaguely gesturing in our general direction.
James threw a raisin-looking thing at Sirius' head to get his attention which met its mark, followed by a faint 'ow'.
"Oi dickhead! Lily says you're potion's working fine. She smells Lavender."
"Well dip me in milk and call me a cookie 'cause I cannot smell anything for the life of me over that fruity conditioner of yours," said Sirius, in an annoyingly accusatory tone that set me over the edge because well first of all fuck you. second of all-
"Oh, you're one to talk Mr I-must-use-the-entire-bottle-of-cologne. You smell like an axe showroom" Yeah, get his ass, me. "Also, I didn't use conditioner today, you pompous dick."
"Yeah? Well, get ready to feel stupid because I ran out of cologne yesterday. Ha. In your face." Wait, what?
Silence.
Contemplative silence.
A whole lot of good old silence.
Faces contorting in ways like never before as we unpack what just happened, in sweet, painful, silence.
"(Y/n) did you-"
"Uh-uh. Yep. Apparently. And you, uh,"
"Big time, yes."
"Oh, okay, so, uh, what now?"
"We could talk about it?"
Sirius Black wants to "talk it out". Yeah, we don't got this.
"Hey morons, you need to fu-"
"Yeah, thank you, Remus. We got it." "Yeah, Cheers, mate."
joel miller x reader
summary: after ten years, you see joel again.
word count: 16k
warnings: blood, typical tlou canon violence, mentions of death and description of gore-ish wounds
longest fic i've ever writeen! enjoy!
Present day (spring 2035)
It was another typical Tuesday for Joel at Jackson. After his mission to patrol the woods that surrounded the little city, he came back to his home, and prepared something easy to eat with Ellie.
After that, he rested for a bit in his couch, always falling asleep for twenty or thirty minutes. When it was already dark, he went to the local bar to finish the day with a good beer. Maria, his brother's wife, sat down by his side.
"Hey, Joel" The named one turned his gaze to her, leaning his back to the wall. "Are you free tomorrow morning?"
"I wanted to fix the bathroom door" that" he shrugged, "but apart from that, I guess I'm free"
"Great, because Rick rescued a group of three women this afternoon. There is one of them that volunteered for patrol, and if you could go with her to train her a bit, although she is great with the shotgun" She laughed. "That chick almost blows Tommy's head". Joel drank the rest of the beer. "Alright, tell her to be at the stable at 7"
May 2024
The air smelled like summer. You loved summer, because the infected were easier to kill with the strong heat. And also because that allowed you to have some free time from the fireflies.
You joined them five summers ago, when they found you almost dead, with a bullet dangerously close to your chest. They saved you, and you owed them. So here you were. Cleaning the zone from clickers and infected. Since the apocalypse started, you were grateful for your capabilities with the shotgun, thanks to your grandfather and his love for hunting. Thanks to that and your surprising survival skills, you were one of the fireflies best huntress; which meant you worked a lot, but also gained some free time for yourself.
You were sat on the rooftop of a building, killing some time with some old book you have just stolen, when you saw two people running through the perimeter. When you were about to shoot, your walkie sounded. It was Marlene, warning you not to kill them. You scoffed, asking who they were, and she evaded the question. Without feeling satisfied, you grabbed your shotgun and followed them.
Those fuckers were good at running, because after an hour, you lost them. It wasn't until a big arm grabbed you by the neck and put a knife - too close to your liking -, that you guessed they found out.
"Oh my god" The woman smiled, murmuring your name as if it was a foreign myth. "Glad to finally meet you, you are quite de legend around here" She got closer to you, "Joel, you can let her go"
"That won't be necessary" you hissed, taking advantage of their realization to kick him right between his legs. The male fell to his knees. You grabbed back your shotgun, pointing right between her eyebrows.
"My name is Tess, and this man is Joel" She raised her arms, getting back, but without showing a single sign of panic in her gaze. "We won't hurt you if you don't hurt us"
"You can't hurt me if I open your head" You answered, with your finger caressing the trigger.
"We were looking for you, for god's sake" Joel now said annoyed, still on the ground. "Marlene told us where you were. We know her."
"Why would she-"
"Your debt with the fireflies is done" Tess cut you off. "We were here to get you out of the quarantine zone. If you want, of course"
"Or you can stay here and still kiss Marlene's ass"
"Oh, you don't want to mess with me, big boy" You laughed, looking back at Tess. “Your boyfriend should keep his mouth shut, doll.”
"He ain’t my boyfriend" Tess admitted, sighing. "We also came to make you a job offer"
You bit your lip, then lowering your arm. "Keep talking"
"We work as smugglers, and we heard how good you are with your job" Tess grabbed Joel's hand, helping him get up. "If everything we heard about you and that shotgun of yours is true, we would like you to join us"
"You pay good?" You asked. "We pay great, and our job would suit your potential." The brunette nodded. "So, what you say?"
You didn't have much of a choice. You wanted so bad to get out of here. Also, you have done smuggling for free, so what's better than getting paid for doing things you were the best at?
"I'm in"
Present day
It was uncharacteristically cold today. Joel woke up before his alarm went off, taking advantage of these ten minutes to prepare a sandwich for his patrol today. It wasn’t rare that citizens of Jackson found stray people and opened their gates to them.
He got dressed and started his way to the stables, not without before leaving a note to Ellie about him leaving for the morning.
When he arrived, he started to get his horse ready, petting shimmer for a bit. Once he finished, he waited, sitting down in a chair. Then it was seven. He light up a cigarette. Then it was seven fifteen, seven twenty… And when the clock hanged on the stable wall marked seven thirty, Joel was exasperated.
Before he could leave, Maria appeared on his eyesight.
“Sorry, Joel, she had some issues with her prosthetic leg” She then announced: “She’s ready now.”
Joel’s brows furrowed. Then you appeared on his eyesight. His gaze softened, but just for a moment, before getting his guard back up.
“Hey, big boy”
October 2024
“You missed today” A voice behind you said. “You never miss.”
You didn’t have to turn around to know it was Joel talking. You were tired and the last thing you wanted was to talk to him.
“Why? Why did you miss?”
You shrugged. “I suppose you’ll never know.”
The room fell silent again. You started to appreciate the silence after all the loudness that entered to your life for the past months.
“You knew that woman” Joel then said. You didn’t notice when he got closer to your figure. “Am I right?”
You were still quiet, focusing your eyes to the book.
“I thought I knew her” You didn’t know why you were telling him that, you just wanted him to go away. Youb corrected yourself. “She looked like someone I knew”
Joel sat down right next to you, still keeping a distance. He didn’t insist about it. He just fell quiet.
“Doesn’t it happen to you?” You break the silence. “Thinking someone you knew fell sick. Or killing people you knew without being aware of it because of some fucking fungus”
“I think about it all the time” He then said. His voice seemed soft, weak even. “You lost someone because of it?”
“I lost everyone” You laughed at the irony. “But, uhm…” Tears threatened to come out of your eyes. “Five years ago, I lost my sister. And it was my fault.”
“Got infected?” Joel asked. You nodded slowly with your head. “She begged me to kill her, to end her pain. I guess I couldn’t do it.” You shrugged, trying - and failing - to act indifferent about it. “So when I see an infected that looks at least a bit like her, I get scared. It doesn't happen often, and I know it’s not scientifically possible for an infected to keep-”
“I understand.”
You closed your mouth shut. It was your turn to get quiet. “I lost my daughter because of it. I understand”
His words made you realize lots of things, the most important one, how similar you two were. Tried to act out as dangerous and powerful, when on the inside you were just two lost and broken people, who didn’t want nor care to be fixed.
That night, something clicked between you and Joel.
Present day
Joel stood static on his position. It couldn’t be possibly you. He had to be dreaming. He had to.
“I see you two know each other” Maria chirped. “I have work to do. Don’t mess this up.”
The woman disappeared, leaving the two of you alone.
You ignored his burning gaze towards you and jumped to the horse. “Come on.” Joel tried to ignore all the thoughts that were evading his head, and started riding his horse. Once the gates of Jackson closed, he positioned the animal right next to yours.
“How did you find me?” He asked, taking advantage to see your face. You had a long scar that went all through your right cheek. And he also looked at your missing leg, now replaced with a prosthetic metal one.
“You know I am very good at my job” You simply answered. When you looked at him, the male felt cold. “Where’s Tess?”. He took a minute before answering. “She didn’t make it”
You felt bad. Although you shouldn’t, you did. Maybe it was because a tiny piece of your heart still belonged to them. Even after everything.
“Sorry” You mumbled. “Infected?”
“Uh-huh” Joel looked at your leg. “How did you make it?”
You ignored him, riding your horse faster.
February 2025
The glass snapped with the pass of your boots. You were all bloody - thank god it wasn’t yours - and you were also exhausted. Joel followed you close.
You two had a mission around Boston, and Tess couldn’t come with you, she got shot and lost a dangerous amount of blood. “Fuck” He mumbled. “We shouldn’t have accepted it until Tess recovered.”
“Oh shut up you pussy, we can handle this just fine” Your voice said the opposite, but Joel didn’t seem to notice.
All of a sudden, a window broke right on top of you. An infected grabbed you by the shoulders, her mouth too close to your neck. Before you could even process what was happening, Joel drove the bat into the infected’s head. You moved the now corpse to the floor, standing up. “Thank you for that” You laughed. “Lord, you scared me” He said at the same time.
You grabbed your shotgun and smiled at him. He didn’t smile back, yet his lips curled the tiniest bit upwards. You tried to remember every inch of his face. After all of these months together, you started to not dislike Joel and Tess' company, even you dared to say enyoing.
It was usual to start your routine wrapped in cold sheets, only Joel's body keeping you warm. Though you must admit it was nice to lay your trust on him and allow yourself some calm in your life, your job didn't make things easier. With your strong character and Joel's stubborness, you usually ended up fighting, a lot. It wasn't a relashionship what you both had, but for you, it felt like something much more important. You let him inside your head and your heart. You told eachother every fear, every dream, every thought that occupied your minds. Your connection with him was something built with time, patience and trust.
WIth everything you learned since you were with them, there was one thing you yearned for, and yet it was something that seemed imposible. Stability. Stability and a calm life was everything you wanted. It was pretty hard to find, knowing your head had a price in half of the states. But at some misions, like the one you were right now with him, you decided to be selfilsh for a while. You decided to priorize what your heart longed for, not what your head ordered.
So here you were. With one of your legs tangled in Joel's hip. Inside a house that wasn't even yours. Both of you only wearing underwear, your mind focusing on the light sound of the rain from the outside and Joel's calm breaths. "We should get going" Joel whispered, plastering soft kisses in your forehead. "Tess must be waiting for us tonight"
"We already finished the mission, Joel. I can assure you before the sun is down we will be with Tess again. And please, don't name another woman's name after we fucked. It doesn't feel right." Joel chuckled, getting up from the bed. "Sure thing. come on, let's go."
Once you both got dressed and grabbed your guns, you went back to the road. The soft rain turned out to be a pretty loud storm, banning you and Joel's chance to go back as fast as you would've wanted.
It turned out to be a longer journey back home than you anticipated. And by the time you entered the building where youb three were staying, you and Joel shared a worried glance. A clicker sound.
Without further explanation, you reloaded the shotgun and runned to the third floor, where Tess was supposed to be. With every step you took, the woman's shouts became more louder. You killed two runners, who heard your fast footsteps. You didn't hear - or at least denied - Joel's screams to stop and get behind him. You could only hear Tess cries. When you killed two more clickers, you started to think this was serious. Joel screamed your name again.
"Get behind me! For the love of god get the fuck behind me!"
"There's too many!" You shouted back, throwing your shotgun to the floor once it ran away from bullets, and decided to stick with a metal bat instead. "Go get Tess!" The bat found an infected head, knocking it out at the instant. "I'll cover you! NOW!"
Joel failed to look you in the eye. He just nodded to himslef, trying not to think about everything that was happening right now, and just followed your orders. He grabbed Tess as carefully as he could and started running towards the exit, you following behind.
After that, everything happened in less that a minute. Your bat ended up blending with an infected's open head, leaving you unarmed and scared. You still hitted as hard as your could the other infected bodies that seemed every second harder to get rid off. And by the time Joel was on the third floor again, almost leaving the building, a clicker jumped on your back. Tess was the first to notice.
"Joel get back! Get back! She needs you!"
Joel denied, not stopping nor looking back, where you were shouting for help. "We need to leave"
"No! Joel!"
You never seen a clicker so close. You never noticed how behind the fungus, you could still see a human face. You could see the pain the man was in. And stil, with both of your arms holding his cheeks and shoving him as hard as you could, it wasn't enough. You were going to die. You used your last string of strenght to look back. Joel and Tess were gone. They left you. He left you.
The fatigue turned to anger, and the anger turned to rage. Thanks to that rage, you succeded to grab a brick at splash it into the clicker's head, allowing you to catch a breath and try to escape. You thought you made it when a high-pitch scream left your throat. You felt how every tooth burned the flesh of your leg. Your vision was blurry from the inevitable tears that ecaped from your eyes. Taking advantage of how the clicker was eating your muscle, you ripped the clicker's head apart, killing him in the act, leaving you in silence. God, how you appreciated silence. The only sound that was audible were your soft cries. You laid down the cold floor and kept crying. You were going to die. With all the stimoulation that ran through your veins, you didn't hear how at the end of the hall, Joel had come back to you. But when he saw your leg, and your weak figure, he knew you wouldn't last much. He now understood, better than ever, your story with your sister. That night, Joel decided to be selfish. He decided not killing you, even if that meant you would turn into a montser.
He never told Tess the truth, thinking it would be easier for both of them to believe you died that day. A couple of minutes later, when you were alone again, you crawled to a now dead clicker, and removed the knife from its neck. You cut your own leg and with Joel's jacket you stop - or at least tried to stop - the hemorriage.
The next thing you saw was darkness.
Present day
The sun started to hide behind the mountains and the air started to grow colder. You spent all day at patrol with Joel. Even though you haven't talked much, he knew why you were here. At least, that¡s what he thought.
"Come on" He stopped his horse, not daring to lock gazes with you for more than mere seconds. "I know why you're here."
"Oh, you do?" You mocked him, turning your horse around and getting closer to him. "Then why am I here, handsome?"
"To end me" His voice was nothing more than a mere whisper. "I left you, and now you'll get your revenge"
"You're right as always" You smiled at him. "Well, at least on the abadnonement thing. That was rough, even for you, asshole. But I'm not here to kill you. I don't blame you for what happened."
"When I found out you had been staying at Jackson for two years. I got jealous. You got what I wanted. A calm life." You shrugged. "I came here to have that, even if it means seeing you everyday, I just want some peace. I had enough violence."
Joel went quiet. Until his voice cracked. "Maybe we could begin again."
To begin again. To be gifted with another chance. To welcome him in your life again. Your voice sounded soft and yet cold when you murmured. "Yeah, maybe we could."
Routine—a very familiar word to Remus. His days were the same. Wake up, go to work, go home, shower, then sleep. He ate the same thing for breakfast and the same thing for lunch. Dinner was the only thing he frequently changed—maybe one day, he would have pasta, and the next, he would have chicken. He hung out with friends on Saturday, and they went to the same pub every time. The topics were usually the same. Sirius met someone new, someone they claimed to be "The One," only for that person to leave their life. James usually talked about training, Lily, and updates on her pregnancy. Since school ended, things had become... predictable.
You walked into the rickety old record shop, intent on finding your favorite album. It broke on the move to the UK, and you needed it desperately.
Upon hearing the bell ring, Remus looked up. It was part of his routine—to see who had entered his shop—and there you stood, tote bag in hand with messy, windblown hair.
After searching through the Rock section for ages, you practically squeal when you see the album.
Remus looks up as you walk to the counter, "Hi."
"Hi," You smile. Your accent throws Remus off, and he smiles.
He looks at the record, then puts it down, "We have this in a white vinyl," He says, "I— I didn't mark it as colored, so you probably didn't see it. I can go grab it for you?"
You eagerly nod, "That would be fantastic!"
He stands, and you realize how tall he is—it's like he's towering over you.
A moment later, he returns with the other record, "They're hard to come by," He scrawls something on the record sheet, then rings up the album.
You thank him and pay, leaving him to wonder if you'll be back.
The next time you see him, he's with a pretty girl. She's got bleached blonde hair and a cute button nose. She's beautiful. Of course, you recognize the tall man—how could you not? He and the girl make their way to the counter; they both order.
"For Remus," A woman calls out.
Remus—that's his name.
Remus steals glances at you the entire time he's at the coffee shop.
"Who's that?" Marlene asks with a coy smirk.
"I don't know. Came into the shop a couple of weeks ago."
"Oh, so you have a little crush." Marlene is full-on smirking now.
Remus goes red, "What? No." He shakes his head, "No," He repeats, trying to reassure himself that he doesn't have feelings for you.
"Sure," Marlene mutters, taking a sip of her drink.
Remus rolls his eyes.
About a month passes by until you see one another again. You walk into the shop. Remus looks up when the bell rings, and he smiles.
Sirius is there today, and they go up to you.
"What're you looking for?"
You answer, and he leads you to the section as if you don't know the alphabet. He doesn't mean it that way, you know that.
Still, you tease them about it, and their face goes stark red, "Sorry. I just— Sometimes record shops can be confusing in how they order things. Like, when it goes from 'C' to 'D,' does the 'D' section continue on the other side, or does it continue straight across? You know?"
"I'm kidding around," You smile, "I've been here before. Granted, it was just once, but I know how it works. Thank you, though."
"But of course," Sirius curtsies, "Anything for you..."
"Y/n," You introduce yourself.
"I'm Sirius. Like the star," He clarifies, "Like, that's my name. S-i-r-i-u-s," They spell out.
You giggle, "Nice to meet you, Sirius."
"Nice to meet you. I love your silly accent, by the way."
"You're the one with the silly accent," You shoot back.
"Not when my accent is outnumbering yours."
You tilt your head and hum, "Strangely, I understand what you mean."
"It'd be concerning if you didn't."
"Do you frequent this shop a lot?" You ask, flipping through albums.
"My friend is the owner." Sirius shrugs.
You perk up, "Remus?"
Sirius quirks their brow, "You know him?"
You get hot, "No."
He narrows his eyes, "So, how do you know his name is Remus?"
"Well," You whisper, "I came in a while ago. He was really nice when I checked out. Then, a couple of weeks later, I saw him at a coffee shop, and they said his name when his drink was ready."
"You're a creep," Sirius raises his eyebrows.
"No!" You argue.
"Such a creep." Sirius begins walking away; you rush to follow him, "I'm telling him." He says.
You begin to panic, "Wait! No!"
Sirius keeps walking to the front.
"Sirius," You whine, "Stop!"
"Remus!"
You silently will him to stop.
"Remus!" Sirius calls again.
"Lovely lady over here has something to tell you," He smirks.
If looks could kill, Sirius would be six feet under.
"I just– um–" You sputter out, "I just wanted to thank you for helping me with the record last time I was here."
You swear he blushes, but you don't want to look to find out.
"It was no problem," He smiles, "Maybe I could give you a call if any of their other records come in?"
Sirius smirks from the sidelines.
"Um..." It takes a moment to process, "Sure." You nod assertively, "Yeah. I would love that!"
Remus's world has turned upside down—you keep him on his toes. He stays up because, maybe, you'll call tonight. You eat lunch with him sometimes, and gone are the days when he eats the same thing every day. Gone are the days when he closes up shop at 7:00. Gone is routine.
"Do you want to have dinner tonight?" You ask, wrapping the cord around your finger.
"I'm actually going out," Remus responds. You frown, and your imagination runs wild. What if he's going on a date?
"Hello?" He asks, and you realize you've blocked him out.
"Huh? Sorry?"
"I asked if you wanted to come with me. You can meet my mates. If you want." He spits out. Saying it once is nerve-wracking enough; saying it twice is terrifying because what if you say no? What if you don't want to meet his friends? What if–
"I'd love to!" You cut his frantic thoughts off, and his heart swells.
"Really?" He asks.
"Of course!"
So, now, you're standing in front of a random pub, wondering if he's pranking you. It's been about five minutes, and you know that's not a long time to wait, but your anxiety is getting the better of you.
Then, five turns to fifteen, and you're wondering how pathetic you look.
"Y/n?"
Your head whips to the door, "Sirius? When'd you get here?"
Sirius checks their wrist like they're checking a watch, "'Bout half an hour ago. Did the dimwit not tell you to meet us inside?"
You shake your head, "He said to meet him at the bar. So, I guess he didn't quite specify." You shrug.
"Well, come on in," He holds the door open for you.
You thank Sirius and look around for Remus. He's not hard to spot, and Sirius jogs over to their booth before whispering something into Remus's ear. He looks up and smiles brightly.
"You're here!" He exclaims.
"You're here." You say, tone almost scolding him.
Sirius whispers something else to him.
His face drops, "Oh... sorry for not telling you to meet us inside." His mouth quirks to one side in a guilty expression.
You smile, "It's okay. I forgive you." You sit next to him.
"Oh, thank god," He rests his hand on his chest, "A pretty girl being mad at me would've been my death."
Heat blossoms in your chest.
"So..." James begins, "Now that flirt time is over, can I say hello?"
"Ha!" Sirius barks out, "Flirt time!"
Remus gets warm, "This is James, another one of my school friends. James, this is y/n."
All James says is: "You're his lock screen, y'know?"
Remus kicks him under the table.
"I mean–" James smiles, "Hello, it's nice to meet you. I have never seen your face before."
"Smooth," Sirius whispers to James.
You smile at Remus's red face.
"Ignore him, please?" He begs.
You nod.
Sirius and James tell you embarrassing stories about Remus for the rest of the night, and the boy starts to regret introducing you to them as a pair.
At the end of the night, he drops you off.
Rubbing his face, he sighs, "I hope they weren't too much."
You smile brightly, and Remus feels like he could fall to his knees, "I had an amazing time. They're really fun, Remus."
You leave him with a kiss on the cheek—he puts his hand up to the spot and smiles the whole way home.
"I've missed you," You say into the phone.
"I've missed you, too. You should just let me come over." Remus begs for the umpteenth time.
"I don't want to get you sick," You frown, "That would be horrible."
"It wouldn't be the end of the world. We could quarantine together," He smirks, "I could make you soup, and we could cuddle together on the couch and watch some ridiculous rom-com."
"Take a girl out on a date first!" You joke.
"I would if you weren't so busy being poorly." Remus groans.
"So you're asking me out on a date?" You smile and do a little happy dance.
"I guess I am."
He's smug, and you can tell.
A week later, you sit in a fancy restaurant—the kind where the prices aren't even on the menu. Remus is fidgety. He's wearing his nicest button-down, and you think it looks funny on him. He gets red at your comment and looks down at the table with pursed lips.
"I just meant that I'm so used to you wearing those comfy sweaters. You look good, though." You earnestly smile at him.
"You look nice tonight, yourself."
"Well, I'm going on a date with this charming boy. I wanted to impress him."
"I hear he's very impressed."
You insist on paying, but he won't let you. As soon as you pull out your wallet, he snatches it from you.
He kisses you before leaving you at your car, and you don't want it to stop. It's soft and tender, and it's everything you hoped it would be.
One date turns to two, which turns to five, and now you're anxiously pacing in your flat. You're dating Remus; you have been for a few months, and you're not sure when it's an appropriate time to ask the question, but you'll ask tonight. Except Remus doesn't come. He doesn't call, either.
After an hour of worrying, you call Sirius.
"Hello?" He answers—it's obvious he's high.
"Hi. Do you know where Remus is?"
Sirius laughs, "Right here."
"Can I talk to him?"
You hear rustling as Sirius passes the phone.
"Hello?"
"Remus," You whine.
"Hey there. What's going on?" He's calm—too calm. He's also high.
"You were supposed to come over tonight." You frown—it's a fruitless effort. He can't see you.
"Shit. 'M sorry, baby," He frowns, too. You can hear it.
"'S okay. I was just really looking forward to seeing you." You dramatically slide down your wall into a crouching position.
"I'd come over, but, y'know," He wanders off.
"You're so high you can barely walk?" You offer.
He takes it, "Yes."
"It's alright," You sigh, and Remus feels terrible, "Promise you'll come over tomorrow?"
"Promise," He answers.
But then tomorrow comes, and Remus has yet to show up. So you dial his number, but he doesn't pick up. An hour passes until your phone rings, and you're anxious and giddy and hopeful as you pick it up.
"Sorry." Remus's voice is gruff, and you can hear the guilt in his tone.
"It's okay. You can still come over. It's not too late."
"No," He sighs, "I'm sorry, but I can't... I have to break up with you."
Your face drops with your stomach, "What?"
"I can't be with you. I'm— I'm sorry."
"No!" Tears blur your vision, "You can't just tell me we're over. Explain yourself!"
"I just can't do it anymore. It's too hard."
You choke out a sob, "What's too hard? Loving me?"
"No," He sighs, and he sounds tired, oh so tired, "I'm incapable of giving you what you need."
"And who gets to say what I need?"
"Y/n, for your sake, I'm ending this. I can't provide for you in the way you'll need me to."
"Remus," You sigh, "I don't understand. What do you mean you 'can't provide' for me?"
"I can't emotionally be there for you. I'm sorry."
And as you hear the dial tone, you let your sobs out.
You feel empty. Your only friends are Remus's; now you feel like you can't talk to them.
"You're daft," Sirius scolds, "Y/n was lovely, and you break up with her over the phone?!"
Remus hangs his head in shame, "Yeah, I did."
Then Remus looked up and was met with one of his worst fears. He'd been on Lily Evans's bad side more than once, but never like this. He'd only seen this stare a handful of times, but not once was it directed at him, until now.
She marches over to the booth, never breaking her stare, leans close to Remus, and slaps him, "You twat!"
He doesn't know what to say, so he holds his cheek and waits for her to continue.
"You hurt an exceptionally lovely girl for what?! Because you're insecure? Because it was too scary to feel loved so deeply? That girl gave you her all, Remus! And this is how you treat her?" Lily's face is red at the end of her rant, and Sirius tries to hold in their snickers.
Lily narrows her eyes at Remus, "I can read you like a book, Remus Lupin. I know what's going on in that magnificently stupid head of yours! Go apologize to her!"
"I can't," He murmurs, "I've already ruined it."
She rolls her eyes, "You won't know unless you try, and not knowing will eat at you, and you will die confused, sad, and alone."
"She has a point," Sirius agrees, "I mean... we all know you'll just mope around until we push you to talk to her, but by then, it'll be too late. She will have found somebody, and they'll get married, and you'll just be that bloke from when she moved here. Go talk to her."
"What do I say?"
It's almost midnight when a knocking at your door wakes you. Groaning, you get out of bed and make your way to the door.
You undo the bottom lock, keeping the chain in place.
"Yes?" You peek through the crack, surprised to see Remus holding flowers on the other side.
"I'm sorry."
He thinks he's surely blown it when you close the door, but he hears the chain clanking as you fully unlock it.
"What are you doing here?"
Remus wants to cry at the sight of you. Your eyes are bloodshot and puffy, with red tracing your waterline.
"I—" He has a whole script planned out but seems to have forgotten every word, "I have flowers," He settles on.
"For me?"
He nods.
"What are you doing here?" You ask again, taking the flowers.
"I'm here to apologize. I was a dick the other day."
You tilt your head, "You mean the other day when you broke up with me?"
Remus almost doesn't catch the sarcasm, "I'm sorry. I get so caught up in my head—"
You turn from him, "Come in," You mutter as you walk into your kitchen.
He closes the door behind him and toes his shoes off, "I get scared when I let somebody get too close."
"Tea?"
"Yes, please."
He watches as you move around your kitchen, grabbing cups and boiling the water. He's missed you.
"Why let me get close at all, then?"
"Because I like you."
You turn and look at him, "Do you, now?"
Remus sighs, "Look, I fucked up, I know that. Do you think we can try again?"
You walk over to him, "You said you can't give me what I need. What does that mean, Remus?"
"I'm unfit to be with somebody."
"I don't think so. You were wonderful the past three months. So wonderful that I think, if you work on yourself, we can give this another go."
"Can I kiss you?" He asks, leaning in.
"I look terrible," You laugh.
"No," He rests his forehead against yours, "You're always beautiful."
"Kiss me."
