Raph slowly getting to understand that maybe his s/o isn't all that mentally stable but they pretend it's fine because they don't want anytjing to appear out of place. Like.. one day.. they explore and start trying to hit him because they just came back from a toxic family outing.. they end up crying after a bit because they feel like after this he'll look at them wrong now..(I crave the angst to fluff today aggression to lovey dovey I got chu fluff)

Raph had always known there was something deeper to you

you never talk about your family, when he asks to meet them you just say "another time"

there always seemed to be just something bubbling beneath the surface with you

that's when it all comes to a head on collision

it had been the worst day

a family outing - a recipe for disaster

you're parents had been fighting, your siblings weren't backing you up, everything you did/said.wore was picked apart

it was the final straw

you got back to the lair and you didn't know if you were going to cry or punch a wall or throw up

everything just felt wrong, your head was spinning and it was like the walls were closing in on you

enter: Raph

"Hey short stuff, how was the day?"

you know he didn't mean it in any kind of way, but it felt like a barb in your side

you lost it

screaming, crying, throwing whatever was closest to you at him

"fuck you fuck you fuck you! I hate you!"

Raph didn't know what he's done but in seconds he closed the distance between the two of you and restrained your arms

you broke free and just started pounding on his chest telling him to back off and go away

he gets hold of your arms once more

"I'm not going anywhere until you tell me what happened. What did I do?"

his voice was stern but full of pain, it brought you back to yourself a little

"nothing" you answer and break down crying in a pile on the floor

"you did nothing"

he scoops you up and carries you to his room, sitting you on his lap on the bed

rubbing your back, kissing your temples

"Just talk to me?"

you explain everything

how your family is dysfunctional, how you wanted him to think you were normal so you tried to hide it, how you can't stand any of them

"hey, hey, hey" he says wiping away your tears "Do I look normal to you? You think I can't handle things that are a little fucked up?"

"I- I just thought that if you really saw me, you wouldn't love me anymore" you say in between sobs

"I wish you wouldn't think I was that mean" he said quietly

suddenly it clicked

your protecting him from yourself was really just hiding, and of course he would still love you if he knew the truth. It was an insult to him to think anything other than that

"I'm really sorry" you blubber

"It's ok, well, it's not really but we'll get through it like we always do. Just...Please know you can talk to me. About anything"

he stays there holding you for a while, the world seems to melt away in the harbour of his arms

tomorrow everything will be ok again
