MY DEAR VICTOR
“My dear Victor,” cried he, “what, for God’s sake, is the matter? Do not laugh in that manner. How ill you are! What is the cause of all this?”
“Do not ask me,” cried I, putting my hands before my eyes, for I thought I saw the dreaded spectre glide into the room; “he can tell. Oh, save me! Save me!” I imagined that the monster seized me; I struggled furiously and fell down in a fit.
Poor Clerval! What must have been his feelings? A meeting, which he anticipated with such joy, so strangely turned to bitterness. But I was not the witness of his grief, for I was lifeless and did not recover my senses for a long, long time.
This was the commencement of a nervous fever which confined me for several months. During all that time Henry was my only nurse. I afterwards learned that, knowing my father’s advanced age and unfitness for so long a journey, and how wretched my sickness would make Elizabeth, he spared them this grief by concealing the extent of my disorder. He knew that I could not have a more kind and attentive nurse than himself; and, firm in the hope he felt of my recovery, he did not doubt that, instead of doing harm, he performed the kindest action that he could towards them.
Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus, Mary Shelley (CHAPTER 5)
ah, to be cared for! the unconditional depth and gentleness of it. also have you guys ever listen to the ost for the korean frankenstein musical. sometimes I think about how musical!victor uses his henry's (dupre in the musical, not clerval, but henry all the same) head for his creation. that's also an unconditional something!!
ngl I considered attempting a full bernie wrightson homage for this, but then I thought about how I like having fun and that would totally ruin my hands for the week and settled for drawing a bunch of lines until I got tired of drawing lines lmao

[ID: short animated GIF of izutsumi from dungeon meshi. she runs angled left with swinging arms, a swishing white-tipped tail, and a somewhat sour determination in her expression. the limited color palette is tinted warm and a paper texture overlays the piece. end ID]

Websites we do NOT recommend for systems or those questioning
The Plural Association/Power to the Plurals
Reasoning: TPA (and by extension Power to the Plurals) claims to be a nonprofit, but does not reveal financial information, audits, or annual reports that are common among respected, genuine nonprofits. Most of TPA’s resources are behind paywalls, with options to donate on every page of the website. We’ve written before on why we think TPA/Power to the Plurals is a grift (in the link are sources to back our claims). The creator of TPA/Power to the Plurals has also manipulated statistics to make alternate claims, and does not understand the differences between fusion and integration in disordered systems.
Astraea’s Web
Reasoning: Astraea’s Web is very vocal about being anti-psych, anti-therapy, and anti-recovery. They continually refer to DID as MPD and drive a wedge through the plural community by attempting to separate and distinguish “natural multiples” from “disordered systems.” They have referred to systems seeking treatment or struggling with dissociative disorders as “basket cases” and attempt to claim natural multiples are better than and unaffiliated with systems with complex dissociative disorders. It is their plainly stated goal to demedicalize complex dissociative disorders and have them removed from the DSM! They sensationalize dissociative disorders and rely on stereotypes to get their messages across - on their site, they mention the infamous Sybil case almost twice as much as they mention dissociation or dissociative disorders.
You can read their FAQ to see all of this for yourself (brace yourself - this website is rife with ableism!)
Kinhost.org
Reasoning: Like Astraea’s Web, Kinhost is also anti-psych, anti-therapy, and anti-recovery. They would rather plurals pay for their life-coaching program than seek actual treatment for debilitating symptoms. They scorn therapy and treatment in their Multiple Manifesto, and claim that receiving treatment is akin to “being experimented on” which could not be further from the truth. The system who runs this site has referred to systems seeking treatment and the state of therapy today as a “therapocalypse” and is very open about being anti-recovery for systems who desperately need it.
Websites like these divide the plural community, cause misunderstandings, spread horrible stereotypes and disinformation, encourage infighting, and reject recovery. They perpetuate an “us vs. them” mentality that pits “empowered” (ie natural or nontraumagenic) multiples against systems with or without DID or OSDD who require treatment in order to live happy lives.
We’ve recommended some of these sites in the past before we knew more about the empowered multiple’s movement and exactly what it entails, or how each of these sites have caused tangible harm in the past. However, we will never recommend or advocate for these sites in the future.
Please take care of yourselves and use critical thinking when searching for plurality resources online. Watch out for ableism disguised as resources for nontraumagenic plurals, and remember that all systems are valid and unique in their own ways. No one deserves to be vilified or outcast for seeking healing, recovery, and stability, or for listening to experts and doing research.

unrecommendation: house of leaves. if you've ever read a decently interesting science article and thought "huh, this would be better if it was couched, 50 words at a time, by 700 pages of a misogynist douche talking about random women he's banged, and also THAT part was actually written by a guy who clearly thinks he's the smartest man on earth and can't stop jerking himself off about it", this is the book for you
HELP you're the realest person on earth anon. and we're sharing a brain cell on this one I got halfway through and the interesting format, found footage style horror which I USUALLY enjoy, and cool setting were NOT enough to overcome how much I simply HATED hearing about this couple's marital problems + the random sex some guy was having that sounded mid at best. Ditch him!!!!!

literally do not bother with Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. “oh it’s a seminal work of western literature,” “ohhh it’s the true apocalyptic portrayal of the american west,” “uoohh the depths of man’s violent soul myehehhh” you can flip to any chapter in the book, read masterful prose describing awful shit, and you’ve gotten the gist of it. i get it, that humanity is beautiful and terrible. i got it. we GET IT, CORMAC. CORMAC, YOU CAN STOP!!! take my word that it’s a beautifully-written, horrible book and the point of the unrelenting brutality of man is that it is unrelenting. florals for spring. groundbreaking. (it’s a good book but it just wasted my damn time in a way that No Country or The Road didn’t.)
I have never actually read anything by Cormac McCarthy but lmao and oof in equal measure. Good to know.
I watched the movie of No Country For Old Men though and it was very well done and I hated it.

The thing about maiden rose is that it's such a classic bl and it leans so hard into so many of those old-school tropes (the particular type of seme/uke dynamic is SO classic, and the 'rape-to-love' thing is a big trope- though I actually DON'T think that trope describes MR properly) but for once it did the work to back them up. And the thing about me is that I like those tropes theoretically but no one knows how to make them work. And I'm filtering thru the garbage to find that one cheeseburger. But when you find the cheeseburger... hoooooo boy.

idk why ur "unrecommend a book" tag made me think of this question (maybe i'm just in a hater mood lol), but have there been any books whose fanbases caused u to step away from the book or never want to pick it up? and wut r some books that u unrecommend?
I'm on the periphery of booktwt so I can give u a mile long list of the books I will never pick up bc of the fans omg 😭😭😭 a lot of it is just contemporary romance I rly dislike the people who annotate the most basic dialogue w stars and hearts and I think we need to talk about how a lot of these people have a porn obssesion bc i saw a tweet the other day saying how they abandoned the poppy war bc it didnt have 'spice' !!! THE POPPY WAR !!! anyways. There's a lot of popular books I won't read like the atlas six / addie la rue / any greek myth retelling/ even popular sff really I find it insufferable there's very few books that are popular on gr + twt + ig that I will read 🧘🏽‍♀️ also um if I had to unrecommend... Will say don't ever read a v. e. schwab book their synopses sound rly good but she's never learned to execute it so it's the post boring writing ever just skip her work u won't miss anything <3

book unrecommendation:
my latin textbook by V. N. Yarkho and V. I. Loboda (7th edition, 2002) published by Vizshaya Shkola (tr: Grad School).
you will NOT learn latin this way, you will NOT enjoy reading it, you will NOT be able to navigate it and it will NOT provide you with easy-to-digest information. trust me (<- has a latin exam tomorrow and knows nothing)
the 2018 edition is slightly better, but just. by a hair.
if i vidi, i will comedit. o7
