The hate on Roxy because she's a "bitch" and a "narcissist" and... wanting to get Gregory? (When literally everyone besides Freddy is also trying to kill him???) Is so fucking stupid and just shows how much you people hate female characters. I'm about to go in-

First of all, the bad talk at Gregory in SB was because she was hacked by Vanny, (even her behaviour when you see her through the vents in her room) obviously there was no way she'd actually talk like that to a KID, but alot of you seriously believe that. And yeah, ok, she says a few mean things, so what? SO WHAT? If this was Monty's, or maybe Bonnie's personality instead, would you be spewing hate at them, or continue to simp for them and call their behaviour hot? I know for a FACT that a lot of you would. Not all female characters have to be too sweet or quirky and silly for you to like.

Back to Roxy's bad talk, you may think "Well, none of the others bad talk him!!" Yeah, it's because everything Roxy says to him is actually targeted to herself. The game clearly showed us how she actually feels: crying alone in her room, constantly telling herself that she's not a loser, and questioning if everyone loves her. Her praising herself are reminders to feel like she's still loved more than anything.

And the one thing that boosted her confidence alot was her looks. Her looks clearly meant so much to her, and we see this in Help Wanted 2 as well, so obviously she would be furious and lose it if someone took that away from her, including her ability to see.

And before I say anything else, I just wanna say that no I'm not angry at Gregory at all, he is just a child who was doing everything he can to survive, and if I were in his place, I would've done the same as well to protect myself. But at the same time, I understand Roxy's anger too. If I were someone who had very low self esteem that I reassure and prepare myself everyday to hang on, when one day, suddenly someone hits me with a whole go kart that shatters my entire body, and on top of that, they steal my eyes too? Yes, I wouldn't just be devasted, but I'd be very angry as well. Roxy was taken everything away from her, and was left to rot alone, I don't blame her for being angry at all.

Now more onto Ruin, which shows us her true side all along.

In the dlc, I don't think (Or it's clear at this point) that any of them are hacked anymore, since we assume that Vanny left with Gregory and Freddy in the good ending, and Glitchtrap is gone. But with Chica and Monty, I feel like they've just lost themselves and are completely broken. Even when seeing Cassie, they still tried to kill her. But with Roxy, she was the only one who recognised her when she heard her voice, and even apologized for grabbing her.

Later on, when Cassie stumbles onto Roxy again, this is where we see her TRUE self. Where she's sweet, soft, and not as mean as everyone made her out to be. (The way she gently speaks to her and holds her hand will never not make me cry) We know that from Roxy's lines, she was one of few who actually showed up to her birthday, since her friends didn't and was the reason why Cassie was crying in one of the cut outs we see. But Roxy was there for her, and she still remembered her special day, her favourite cake, and she was her number one - twice.

This part CLEARLY shows you that Roxy isn't a selfish jerk who only cares about herself, she cares about the kids, and she cares a lot about Cassie. There's a reason why she's Cassie's favourite, right? And don't forget that she literally went up against the mimic to protect her!!!

And I do wanna say that, no, this post isn't telling you that you're not allowed to dislike Roxy or criticise her at all, the issue is hating her character and personality when she would've been praised for it and called "hot" if she were Monty, Moon, Bonnie, or if she was Glamrock Foxy instead. (Which is... literally misogyny) Like, even before Ruin, there were people who hated Roxy for being a jerk, but then turn around and praise Monty when we see him being way more aggressive, while theorizing that he was the one KILLED Bonnie over jealousy. Not even because he was hacked, just... jealousy, and that's not him being 10 times worse than Roxy???

Don't forget the details in Monty's Gator Golf minigame, where in some levels, Freddy was always seen separated from the gang, and in the last level, you see Monty performing along side Roxy and Chica, while Freddy was thrown in the trash...

To me, this is clearly because he's jealous at Freddy, and wants to be the star instead. And along side him possibly killing Bonnie...

I'm sorry, but while I do like Monty, he is literally WAY more of a jerk. Alot of you people believe he killed Bonnie, is extremely jealous, way more aggressive, and yet Roxy is the worst of all for saying "I bet you don't even have friends" to a child when she was HACKED? But yeah, also praise the literal child murderer and abuser for being "interesting" and a cool character, but no, Roxy is the worst because she's a bitch. It's just so ridiculous, and I'm not surprised in the slightest, female characters will always get this treatment.

hey anon- i popped into this blog to post something completely unrelated, but seeing this ask i'll just do a semi-brief response to this: (news flash to the me who started this answer- this is no longer brief)

i haven't watched season 4. i've seen clips. i know the spoilers. i don't know that i will actually be watching it, sad as that is for me when there are certain things i wanted to watch develop properly... i might at some point, but it doesn't look to be something i necessarily want to actually properly watch start to finish...

before anyone comes at me for having strong opinions on a season i haven't watched top to bottom- don't. i don't need to have seen every shot to have a very solid understanding. i've seen a lot via socials... i "know what i'm talking about" to the extend i need to here. people are going to have their own subjective opinions, myself included, whether they've seen every second or haven't.

i told my friend on the phone when it came out that after seeing everything it seems like season 4 is more like retcon: the musical: the series...

if anyone has anything Specific they'd like talked about, i'd probably be happy/willing to do so, but admittedly, i'm not super keen on enduring the disrespect that was done to the early two seasons of the series...

also similarly- if anyone wants my thoughts on specific aspects of an alternative season 4... like things i could've envisioned for it pre- like- us getting any content... whether it's end of season 3 compliant or even like- conceptually compliant... i'm down to perhaps talk about that kind of stuff? or a sort of five season thought process... since obviously ending the series in the middle of the school year... pretty odd... especially with how they were acting like oh no this is the End...

my thoughts on this show are largely based in my understanding of the series format and arcs based in season 1 and season 2... season 2 is a very grounded season for all it tries to accomplish with limited degrees of success... i know people dislike it for various reasons, i think i actually like it for some of the reasons some people dislike it. and conversely a lot of people like season 3 for the reasons i dislike it. (and i'm not talking ships here folks- i'm talking stories and i'm talking style)

also for all i'm saying here- and this is definitely not to the degree of a traditional analysis post i would make... i would be willing to get into certain things if i am asked about them specifically.

before anyone comes here to scream at me- the thing i dislike about the season was the way it was done- not certain things being done in general. also i think it's a bit sad that they didn't think the story they were telling in season 4 couldn't stand on its own legs and needed all the associated retcon to make sense... there were ways to pull off a lot of what they wanted to accomplish- while still respecting the series and its roots

i think the conclusion i've come to in large part is that season 4 is not the same show as season 1. this is in a lot of ways, and for a lot of reasons. some out of the writers control. some just- due to changes in climate and in process. i know there's been more effort in the latter two seasons to listen to actors more with what they want, which changes things too. this can be a good thing in some cases and less so in others i tend to think (and this is an opinion i hold beyond this show)... i think there's been some disrespect done to different characters in different ways. i think characters have been somewhat reshaped to fit the narrative the show now wants to follow rather writing a narrative which fits the original characters. (and yes this can be done while having character growth/progression.)

one thing i'm very happy with, to end this post on a positive note: kourtney and her story. from all i've seen- she was handled very, very well this season, and it's wonderful to see how far this girl has come. she was only supposed to be a one episode character in season 1 initially before dara auditioned and changed the game, and i think that shows in kourtney's lack of initial depth that first season. she's gotten so much more to do, and i think dara's talents being showcased in the latter two seasons even more has been a wonderful thing. i'm thrilled- and i also love that kourtney got a very solid college arc, i think that was important to do with at least one of the characters, and i'm pleased it was her. she deserves it.

Here is your reminder that the Octonauts fandom is going to be PATIENT, will RESPECT your boundaries, will WAIT for your possible return to the fandom, and will NOT pressure you into anything. Any Octonauts fan that does otherwise should not count, because they clearly do not know what it means to be an Octonaut.

An Octonaut is patient, kind, helpful, and respectful, even if things don't go the way they want it specifically. They will care for the creatures(in this case, people) that come to them regardless of how they want their day to go.

Octonauts are selfless; they do not let what they WANT get in the way of what others NEED. They do not prioritize themselves over others. If you never return to the fandom again, THAT IS PERFECTLY FINE. Because that is what I'd best for YOU. It may disappoint some, but as long as you are safe, happy, and healthy, it should not matter what people WANT out of YOU and YOUR art.

If you do decide to come back to us, then we welcome you with open arms. There aren't enough of us to form an overall opinion about the fandom, and sadly bad experiences can taint the entire look of our community.

Trust me, I've had PLENTY of bad experiences myself(probably TMI, but I once had someone DM me to roleplay something where them as Captain Barnacles had insomnia, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and a crap ton of other things and I as Shellington had to comfort him and whatnot. And then Captain Barnacles got his arm ripped off and they never messaged me again. This was on WATTPAD. They have since removed DMs, and I can see why. So bad experiences can definitely ruin one's image of the fandom.)

But if you enjoy the Octonauts and that's what you want to draw, don't let idiots stop you!! Octonauts do not discriminate and any hateful person who calls themself an Octonaut never truly learned what it means to explore, rescue, and protect.

An Octonaut is meant to protect and care for their communities, and unnecessary aggression or rude comments should not be tolerated!!! Not by you or by us! Guilt tripping is not good either!

AND: Remember to drink water, eat food, get some rest, and take time for yourself! Have a lovely day/night factual :3

<XD The Octonauts fandom is a tough subject for me for a lot of reasons.. I guess now would be a decent time to finally open up about some of it..

To start, I have had more art theft/reposters, art tracers, copying/heavily adopting all my headcannon/design choices.. in the Octonauts fandom, more than every other fandom combined. Including FNAF. 70% of the time when someone shows me an account that has reposted my art? Its one of my Octonauts comics.

I'm pretty protective of my work and I like to keep things to myself, so having all of these happen so frequently in this fandom has kind'a spooked me away..

And I get it, the fandom is not that big. Chances are when someone has a different/unique/good idea, everyone is going to adopt it into their Octonauts universe. I get it.. but that doesn't stop me from feeling really uncomfortable about posting Octonauts artwork. And I also get that a lot of the people in the Octonauts fandom are really young and don't realize that reposting is theft, or that blatant tracing is theft. That doesn't stop it from being really frustrating to see and very discouraging.. especially when you say "hey, you traced my artwork, please don't do that.." they just straight up don't listen 💀

What's frustrating is that despite not having posted anything Octonauts related in a long time, I STILL deal with constant theft and art tracers. I had to block a few recently after they denied clearly tracing my art and refused to take anything down.

Not even to mention the people who have bashed me for not head cannoning Kwazii or Calico jack as trans.. I totally understand that its a widely accepted headcannon, but my Jack is just a rare male calico and Kwazii is a regular male tabby/calico mix. The constant "why dont you draw kwazii with top scars?? are you a transphobe?? stop misgendering kwazii he's trans!!" is really annoying..

Another thing that really bothers me is the constant crab comic asks. Despite explaining multiple times that I do not want to continue drawing that comic, I still get constant asks like this,👇

This was sent after a simple eye study of the Octonauts. And it said that I'm still on the fence about Octonauts. What part of that post makes you think I'm gonna go back to the crab comic?

I understand that a lot of these people are young and just don't understand that all this stuff is wrong or could be making me uncomfortable. But currently I just don't have the patience to deal with all this junk.. So until I can get my patience back or find a work around for this, Octonauts is officially back on the shelf. 😔

Hey besties this is just a quick PSA that if you comment on my writing and say something along the lines of “nah, this fic pissed me off!” (in a negative way) and then you follow it up by saying that the characters should’ve done things differently, I will block you.

Cause it’s so unnecessary. And rude.

And if a fic pissed you off or you didn’t like it or whatever, that’s fine! But you don’t have to engage with it! You can just scroll by and go read something else!

or, you can write your own! (Though I have found that the people who post the rudest comments have never written or posted any original fics at all… interesting)

Anyway, your comment is not going to change the story, the plot, the characters, or the circumstances. It’s just going to irritate me.

I’ve had the same user (who I will not be naming) comment on multiple fics of mine and tell me that they don’t like my writing, that they don’t like the plot / circumstances, that they think the characters should do things differently, and I would just like to know

That anon is so right. Some blogs that are well versed on this "subject" are very mean and if you "dare" to say something that you think or you "dare" to ask something or make assumptions/share your own theories you are brought down and offended. It is so upsetting and totally unnecessary. Some blogs are very rude and insult heavily. You can't even make a little mistake by saying something that has been proven wrong or by saying a controversial opinion that people come at you, offending, being extremely inappropriate. Now I get why people say that this fandom is soooo toxic, it is true (and the funny thing is that the blogs who say "omg this fandom is soo toxic" are the first people who make all of this actually unpleasant and obnoxious).

I don't really understand why, though. I get that disrespectful anons can be annoying, but if you answer them, don't be like them, or the easiest thing you can do is to block them. However, if somebody presents a theory in a respectful way, it's a really low blow to be disrespectful to them. And why is it a big problem if somebody doesn't remember something? I have had this blog for almost 2 years now, and I, myself, have forgotten a lot of things that have happened. A lot of things went down in the past few years; nobody can expect anyone to remember all of them.

There are a lot of toxic people in this fandom, but that's always been the case, I think. This whole situation showed lots of people's true colors. Don't misunderstand me; calling out their behavior is important and necessary. But it's not just about those things anymore; a lot of people act like they are validated to say anything they want. I doubt they will, or at least that Chris will use the toxic fandom narrative, but there are comments and posts out there that would prove that it's not that far-fetched from the truth.

have you've noticed an increase in hate comments on ao3 fics? (not the A/I bot stuff, I know ao3 sorted that out, i'm talking actual people leaving hate comments, and sometimes it's not even guest accounts). i've noticed an increase in the last few months in the x men fandom and others. more and more people commenting bad faith, outright rude comments. i mentioned it to winter_hiems and she said she'd noticed it too - worked an age on her latest and the first comment she got was a hate message. kind of wondering if it's starting to be a widespread thing because our fandoms only partially overlap

I haven't been posting very much lately so I haven't noticed an uptick in negative comments - in my experience, it sort of comes and goes over time i.e. you get a bunch all in a short period and then it all disappears again for a long time. My guess is that with the increased interest in X-Men from X-Men 97 we're getting a big influx of new or returning fans, and a small portion of them haven't read the memo on fandom etiquette. It doesn't explain what's happening with other fandoms though so I really couldn't guess :(

Personally, I don't have the energy or inclination to deal with bullshit anymore so I just delete anything that pisses me off and permanently block 'em on ao3. Seriously it never ceases to amaze me, the amount of entitlement and sheer dickishness that exists out there over something we do for love, in our free time.

So here we are again, for those of you who are genuinely new and don't know what's acceptable, and aren't just assholes:

Unless the author says 'I welcome concrit', keep your concrit to yourself. Nobody asked you and nobody wants to know how you would write this thing. Just go write it yourself if you think you can do better.

If you have nothing nice to say, back out of the fic. It costs you nothing to shut the hell up.

Authors do NOT prefer getting shitty comments to getting no comments at all. Authors are sharing their love and joy with the world and genuinely want to hear how its making their readers happy - full stop. They did not do hours of unnecessary research, agonize over plot points, edit the damn thing 20x and stay up nights coming up with ideas just so you could tell them how their fic is wrong/bad/stupid/upsets you/is what's wrong with society today etc. The problem is you. It's always you. Shut up.

You’d, quite literally, bumped into him one day. Rufus had been in for a very brief visit, or so you’d been told. Tseng said he’d only been in the building for a grand total of an hour, but before he’d left he’d requested that one of the Turks escort you to the bookshop, to which Tseng had happily agreed. You hadn’t been in months, so the result had been you picking up nearly every book you set your eyes on that looked remotely interesting. Tseng had escorted you safely back to the headquarter’s ground floor before heading off on other business. You were ecstatic about your new haul and the fact that you’d been outside for the first time in ages, so you would be forgiven that your attention was solely on the bag of treasures you held in your hands as you headed on autopilot towards the elevator, not expecting any obstacles to be in your way. It was then that you’d strode confidently into an unmoveable object, so strong that you fell backwards and your bag spilled, books scattering to the floor.

You looked up at what had blocked your path and saw the tall figure of the imposing Soldier, famous for his red leather coat as he looked down at you, momentary confusion across his face.

“I’m so sorry!” You bowed your head, realising just who you’d ran into. You’d crossed paths at events sometimes when Father deemed it necessary, but the two of you had never spoken. Why would you?

“Are you all right?” He’d crouched down in front of you.

“Yes, thank you.” You nodded, keeping your head down as you got up to your knees and started to gather your fallen books. You were reaching for one when a gloved hand beat you to one. Genesis Rhapsodos’ eyes lit up at the title.

“Now, this is an interesting one.”

“You’ve read it?” You didn’t mean to sound surprised and hoped he wouldn’t be offended. You’d only ever seen him with a rather beloved copy of Loveless.

“I have. I won’t spoil it for you though, Ms Shinra.” He smiled. You blushed at the realisation he knew exactly who you were.

“I heard people at the bookshop saying it’s trying to be a knock-off Loveless, but I couldn’t help myself.” You began to pack the books back into the paper bag.

“No comment,” he passed you another two titles. “But nothing holds up to the original.” Genesis watched as you carefully placed the volumes in the bag before he offered you his hand. You accepted – it would be rude not to – and he easily pulled you up to your feet. “I must commend you for your excellent taste – I wasn’t aware you were such an avid reader. Forgive my abrupt remark, but is this why we see so little of you?”

You blushed again at that – he knows who you are and enough to note your absence?

“I…” You hesitated. The reason everyone saw so little of you was that Father hardly gave you permission to do anything but stay in your room. Some days you’d tried to leave and found a Soldier stationed at your door, requesting you stay in there today for your own safety. On the days you were allowed out of your room, you weren’t permitted to leave the building unless escorted, so you spent the day wandering the hallways of places you did have access to, or could follow in the elevator.

You swallowed, “I’m sorry if I’ve come across as rude with my absence, I didn’t mean to. You’re all so busy and I don’t want to be an intrusion to anyone until I can contribute.”

Genesis nodded, but you were pretty sure he could tell you were lying. “Well, permit me to escort you back to your quarters to ensure these books arrive safely at their destination without any further incident.”

“That’s very kind but unnecessary, General. I’ll be perfectly fine from here. I promise to look where I’m going this time.”

“I insist, Ms Shinra. Why shouldn’t a general’s duties include escorting a young lady like yourself safely home?” He then deftly snatched the bag from your hand, holding the books hostage. “Besides, I would like to see what else you’ve purchased today – I’m always looking for recommendations.”

You hesitated, but surely you couldn’t get in trouble over this? He was a General in Soldier and you could hardly boss him around. “That would be very kind, General.”

“Please, call me Genesis.” He replied, offering the crook of his arm. You prayed your face hadn’t gone completely red as you slid your arm through. “Now, tell me, which one are you going to read first?”

You’d made polite conversation back to your quarters, but you couldn’t help yourself when you saw Genesis’ eyes widen as your door slid open, revealing your imposing bookshelves. Your quarters were small but it wasn’t like you entertained. There was a bathroom to the side, and a split living room and sleeping area. You had bookshelves lining all of the walls – a collection you’d started when you were quite young.

“If you have time, you can come in and have a look through the shelves. That’s only if you wanted to, I mean…” You trailed off, cursing yourself. He was a general, surely he had dozens of things to do rather than escort the likes of you back to your quarter and then look through your books…

“I’d love to.”

He’d stayed in your room for nearly an hour, marvelling over the contents of your bookshelves whilst you packed away your new purchases and noted them down in a notebook you kept. You’d told him he could borrow anything he liked the look of and he’d slowly began a small pile on the table. Eventually, his phone had rang. You’d busied yourself with something, not wanting to ease drop but the conversation had been monosyllabic on his side before he hung up.

“My sincerest apologies, but duty calls.” He forced a smile. “I must thank you once again for your hospitality, Ms Shinra.”

“The pleasure’s been all mine - I’ve enjoyed the company. Please, don’t forget your books.” You gestured to the pile and he hesitated, before snatching only one off the top.

“How about I take this one for now? Then I could call upon you again for the next, if you’d have me, that is.” He smirked at that.

“I’d… I’d like that.” You smiled, your heart skipping a beat.

“Excellent.” Genesis headed towards the door, before spinning on his heels and taking your hand instead. “Even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return.”  He pressed a kiss to the back of your hand before he strode out the door, your face matching the red of his coat perfectly.

ive been refraining from commenting on the whole gatekeeper situation because its kinda hypocritical to my own stance, which is and has always been, if it bothers you just keep scrolling. but im doing it anyway because people still need to be reminded of this all the time. no judgement, this is the opposite of how social media algorithms encourage you to behave! the hard truth is, you will literally never get enough information from an anonymous ask to know what the sender is like. anything you think you know about the person on the other side of the screen that's not textually present in that ask is a guess you're making- you don't know. you can't know, it's literally just impossible. you can feel however you want about a public post, but commenting on it in that same space only ever leads to shitty pointless arguments and doubling down and it's a whole mess that MPC has to deal with. if something bothers you that much, you can make a post on your own blog about it, but airing it out here while on anon has not ever been productive; and again, i'm only sending THIS ask because i know that many people who use this blog, for any number of reasons including being neurodivergent, need these clear reminders now and again. scroll past posts you don't like! block tags! curate your space! you're allowed to feel angry and uncomfortable but there is literally no reason to remark on it and start arguments. being anonymously told 'no, actually, youre wrong, and while im at it im going to insult you and assume a bunch of things about you' on the internet has never once changed anyone's mind. this is exactly why directly invalidating ask responses and ex-friend/ex-partner vents are both against the rules here. it just causes completely unnecessary drama in a situation where you could have said nothing or kept your grievances private. and if you come here to say something presumptuous and rude, REGARDLESS of your underlying opinion, people are going to get pissed off, regardless of THEIR opinions. tl;dr your actions have consequences, not every situation requires your input, and getting into an argument online is a choice you didn't have to make. i'm not perfect at this (which is why this ask exists) but internalizing it has saved me a hell of a lot of trouble and time.
