So I'm not selling this one and probably not making more because I feel like the person who oxidization- method-cleaned the mouse skeleton did all the work, but I couldn't resist adding some wings (made of snake ribs) and a handmade glow in the dark resin "crystal" base when mounting this little guy. If anyone else doing oxidization cleaning wants to collaborate though I'd consider doing more pieces like this because I'm quite happy with the results.

(across the spiderverse spoiler warning⚠️)

Before going to see Across the Spider-Verse or knowing anything about the film, I happened to be reading Unnatural Creatures (a collection of eerie stories by Neil Gaiman and other authors). The book’s first story (called Inksplot I think), by Gahan Wilson, reminds me so much of The Spot from atsv. The story is about a weird carnivorous black spot from another dimension that appears and reappears throughout a guys house. While The Spot is a person, the spot in the book is more like a plant. Once a character looks away from the spot, it disappears and reappears in a different place with new growth. I just thought it was interesting that The Spot and the black spot/blob are both these sort of all-consuming, inter-dimensional beings. Also, both atsv and the short story end on giant cliffhangers, where it's unclear how either The Spot or spot/blob might be defeated or somehow made less harmful. I can't wait to see Miles Morales and the other characters again, as well as what will be revealed, in the next spiderverse movie!

another note: (Spoiler warning for across the spiderverse and everything everywhere all at once⚠️) I also feel like atsv was totally referencing Everything Everywhere All At Once with Spot’s whole “you threw a bagel at me and also I’ve decided to basically become the Everything Bagel” thing. Which is so fun.

people should depict Pac as weird more, both in his actions but also in being a thing a creature, scurrying up the walls, eating expired snacks (and their containers) without issue, eyes blinking sideways, pupils aren’t the right shape, glows in the dark a little bit. He’s a strange guy.

Monsters are pretty neat! and this town has plenty of them!

Unnaturals are otherworldly creatures that that possess supernatural abilities. They come through openings between the human world and the unnatural world known as fracture, and have been appearing since the early 20th century.

They come in all different shapes and sizes with a monstrous twist!

(There's also a Flora for plant based and Anomalous for one that don't fit the other categories. this chart is old lol.)

But unnaturals most distinguished feature is their glowing eyes that reflect the color of their cores! Cores are crystalized orbs of pure unnatural energy being that it essential to their being. Basically their heart. It allows them to be able to properly take shape in the human world and gives them their abilities.

Cores come in different colors, serving as a tell for how strong, rare, or dangerous they can be.

(based on the light spectrum, the more unnatural energy one has, the higher the core tier.)

Not all unnaturals are dangerous or hostile. Many are docile and live normally among humans. There's still so much about them to discover!

Their presence on earth seems to have affected humans in quite the interesting way! People started to gain supernatural abilities similar to unnaturals. And those type of people are known as potens.

Some niggling, boring part of me insists that they should technically all be bovine because the Borgia crest bears a bull. . . but honestly who cares? I like the way you think. Cesare certainly has the appropriate hair 🦁

Unnatural Habitat 17-4-D

Subject was spotted outside of a home located in [\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\]. Homeowner [\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\] reported before the anomaly was photographed, they saw the lights and many other electrical components experienced a disruption resulting in a minor blackout. The witness included that they heard a voice emanating from the animal subject. Further research is needed.
