Billy Batson/Cap. M headcanons AKA something you didn't ask for but we are doing
Flossing Marvel jumpscare!
Tumblr media
Billy is homeless by choice. Mostly due to being almost constantly adopted into bad families (boy just has the worst luck). Billy prefers to remain homeless out of the fear that at some point he won't be able to get away from an abusive family. And is absolutely terrified of cops because they tend to take one look at him and toss him in the system or call him a lost cause and try to send him to juvie. Billy does work for Wiz Radio mostly as a result of magical shenanigans i.e Wiz is run by the magical community of Fawcett City. Oh, Billy isn't a big fan of being Cap, I don't know how else to describe it as other than Uncanny Valley for the kid and the fear that he'll end up like Black Adam.
He and Freddy aren't even remotely related familially! Freddy is just some random kid his age that he became close friends with due to mutual loneliness and love of causing problems. Freddy's disability was a result of parental abuse were one of them broke his leg and it was just never properly handled so it just didn't set right. A teacher noticed this and had him placed into her protective custody until his parent was arrested and he had to be placed in foster care due to her inability to meet his needs. He currently lives with Victor and Rosa's family. The other family's backstory remains mostly the same.
Tawky Tawny is a fae trickster two pulled a prank on the wrong person (Titania) and as a result was cursed into the form of a stuffed tiger keychain. Currently he's Billy's familiar as a sort of parole/attempt to prove he's learned his lesson. He was a close friend of The Wizard for a few centuries and is teaching Billy the ins and outs of his inherited role as the Champion of Magic.
Magic lore
The Shazam acronym is as follows:
Sovereignty of Hera
Guidance of Hecate
Council of Athena
Power of Zeus
Fury of Ares
Momentum of Hermes
I always thought it was weird that Capt. Marvel got his power from multiple theological origins unlike Black Adam who was exclusively Egyptian. It was also weird that The Champion of Magic didn't have Hecate as one of his patrons, given her authority as the goddess of magic. I also like the idea the that Billy is beloved by the gods and has multiple blessings outside of the Champion. Like Artemis gave him an understanding of wild creatures and Dionysus making his mind harder to read. Billy is essentially a cryptid due to this, but with magic and a desire to start shit for the hell of it. I have this idea that each member of The Council of Wizards had their own champion and pantheon to draw from. Shazam obviously has the Greek pantheon, but the others had the Norse, Egyptian, Shinto, ect.
Capt. Marvel's duty is less about fighting bad guys and more along the lines of diplomacy, fixing what Black Adam caused. Helping magical communities to coexist and preventing magical threats that could potentially harm both the normal and mystic communities. Also the whole custodian of the Rock of Eternity thing. The Rock itself being a multiversal conduit for all magic does possess a limited form of sentience and will send members of the Shazamily to different realities for various reasons. The Rock tends to send them to those that aren't magically inclined often so a problem gets solved before they are able to return. It's next to impossible to open gates to The Rock in a reality that isn't magically inclined it becomes more difficult at best to return. The same it true for attempting to enter any other dimension i.e The Fae Wilds. I've always enjoyed the nuance of 'my job isn't to punch people, it's to help them.'
The Council of Wizards imposed rules on the Rock's interference;
1)The Rock is forbidden to speak.
2)The Rock is forbidden from taking physical form.
3)The Rock is forbidden to reveal any knowledge unknown to The Champion in any form.
4)The Rock is forbidden from most forms of physical interference (No moving doors)
This can only be rectified if the Council no longer holds control over the rock. Disbandment, forcible removal, or death without an heir.
Physical appearance HC
Billy has lichtenberg figure scars that are weirdly localized, the entire Shazamily does, Billy just has the most. The largest one is on his back starting from the nape of his neck and spreading out at his shoulder blades, he shares this scar with Mary. Freddy and Billy share a scar on Freddy's bum leg, this one going up from the foot to the knee. Darla's scar is on his right hand rising from the palm to the elbow. Pedro's is the left, it starts at the shoulder and ends midway to the hand. Eugene's is on the right leg starting at the mid thigh and ending at the achilles heel. The first scar Billy got is a circle around his heart that spreads across his chest like tree roots, it has no match.
The Champions all share variants of the same costume design (with one exception). Togas with pants, golden braces and boots. They still have the capes (I like those) and the togas match the color scheme with some extra personalization (sans Billy). Mary has the favor of Athena so her's is more armored than normal (and white). Freddy has Hermes so he has sandals instead of boots and his cape is smaller. Eugene is in full on spartan battle armor (Oops all Ares). Darla has a tiara and a longer skirt section. Pedro has the favor of Zeus so his outfit has streaks of charring similar to lightning. They all still have the thunder bolt thing in their chests it's just more obvious that it's a physical part of them.
Now on to my personal fav. Billy is transmasc. I don't know why but I like it. Additionally, Billy is pansexual and has had a lot of boyfriends and girlfriends none of them ended up being what he wanted, leading to a feeling of something being wrong with him. Freddy is gay but thought he was straight for the longest time. I'm just gonna preface this by saying Billy and Freddy being foster siblings is new and they used to just be friends and that is more interesting to me than just siblings. I don't have any strong feelings about the ship, it's fine, I think the potential of a close friendship developing into a close romantic relationship is much more interesting than enemies to lovers. So that's my standing.
Mary is lesbian, she just has the vibes. Darla is to baby to care. Pedro is a bi king. Eugene is the ace icon.

How Blue Beetle is the Hero James Gunn's DCU Needs
Tumblr media
It is no secret the DC Universe has had its fair share of setbacks when it has come to live action films.
From trying to start a universe with Green Lantern, to Man of Steel starting the inconsistent DCEU, it has been hard to watch so many heroes wasted by studio interference, failed universe building, and let's just say, unorthodoxed takes on famous characters (I'm looking at you Joker and Lex).
Now we have an opportunity for a fresh start.
Director James Gunn has a new lineup of films consisting of big swings and fan favorite characters, hoping to build up the DCU we know and love.
In this new marriage between Warner Bros and Gunn, he has inherited 4 children from the previous marriage. The previous box office bomb Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the current box office bomb The Flash, the sequel to one of the biggest DCEU movies Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Blue Beetle, the attempt at a new hero for the DCEU franchise who is somewhat left up in the air between DCEU and DCU.
While some have already chalked this up as another potential bomb, of the 4 movies, this has been my most anticipated.
Unlike the others, Blue Beetle I believe is in a prime slot as the right character, right time, not only to the general public, but to the DCU. Here's why:
1. The Flexibility of Blue Beetle
Tumblr media
Unlike the characters Shazam, Flash, and Aquaman, Blue Beetle is not directly attached the DCEU.
Besides a mention of Batman, and the gear of (the probably late) Ted Kord, Blue Beetle doesn't have many connections to a wider DC Universe. He can exist in either, if they wish to continue one or both.
2. The World Building Potential
Tumblr media
Blue Beetle opens up another part of the DC Universe in multiple different ways EARLY.
As the Scarab is a part of The Reach, this opens up a whole other side of DCU we have never seen, and potentially sets up an invasion storyline.
The Reach also have a deal with The Guardians of the Universe of Oa, setting him up for a potential Green Lantern crossover nicely.
But unlike many other heroes, Jaime Reyes isn't just a member of the Justice League...
Tumblr media
He's a TEEN TITAN!
Jaime opens the door to young heroes existing already! The Teen Titans are a fan favorite, but he is also a member of Young Justice, who are equally as fun.
Tumblr media
This is currently an untapped market for both DC and Marvel (though I'm sure the Young Avengers are coming). Jaime can act as a door between both, offering a perspective as the youngest member of the Justice League, and the senior member of the Titans.
3. Legacy Characters are IN
Tumblr media
A particular kind at least.
If I had a nickel for every legacy character who is (vaguely) attached to a hero they admire, who take on that hero's name, with a similar but different set of powers, who then makes their old costume better, and who happen to be a person of color, I'd have three nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it has happened thrice.
The most famous of course is Miles Morales AKA Spider-Man, who has headed two incredible movies and a pretty sweet video game, along with several appearances in animation.
Tumblr media
The second is fan favorite Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel, who had a pretty solid show and also headed up a video game. While these are not as good as Mile's, they are both in the zeitgeist, and with her big film debut coming up in The Marvels, Iman Vellani has a bright future ahead of herself in and out of the MCU.
And finally, we have Blue Beetle! While he is a legacy character by name, he becomes Blue Beetle AFTER Ted Kord dies in comics, similar to Miles and Peter Parker. He carries the weight and legacy of a hero he never knew, and tries to do it his own way.
That is something audiences are loving right now, and Blue Beetle can tell a similar story.
and finally...
4. Xolo Maridueña is Perfect
Tumblr media
You think I'm overselling him, but I'm not.
If you don't know his name yet, you will soon. As the star of Cobra Kai, Xolo plays Miguel, a kid from nowhere trying to live up to the legacy of man he deems great. If that isn't Jaime, I don't know what is.
Xolo plays every role he has with heart, charm, and has comedic timing to beat. As one of its leads, Xolo helped take Cobra Kai from a YouTube Red Series to one of Netflix's BIGGEST Shows.
And at only 22, he is young enough to play a late teen, and to be in this role for years to come.
In Marvel talk, we can very much be looking at DC's Tom Holland, and Blue Beetle could be Spider-Man Homecoming.
Tumblr media
The bottomline is, I am beyond stoked for Blue Beetle, and as a Latinx fan, I know I'm gonna be there day 1, rooting for its success.
I hope to look back on this 10 years later, as the Justice League unite with Jaime up there with em, three movies under Xolo's belt, a fan favorite, with more to come.
Thank you for reading! If you'd like to support me you can follow me on socials here!

Do toxic fans in some online spaces make it difficult to become or identify as a fan?
Tumblr media
The study of fan culture has a long history, with academic origins linking back to Beatlemania and Star Trek in the 1960s (Rebels, 2021). The digital era has ushered in a new era for fan culture, allowing enthusiasts to create a constant stream of content centered around their passions. Despite being divided by borders and oceans, fans from all over the world have come together on social media to support their favorites' sportsmen, singers, actors, and franchises (Moore, 2023).
But the enthusiasm is frequently accompanied by bad behaviour that spreads like an unregulated infection across fan networks, giving rise to toxic fandoms. Taylor (2023) claims that most negative fandom behaviours take place on online places, especially Twitter.
Tumblr media
Fandom culture turns toxic is due to negative decisions made by individuals within these communities. Toxic fandom in online spaces can indeed make it challenging for individuals to become or openly identify as fans as toxic fan actions encompass a range of behaviours, including but not limited to harassment, bullying, gatekeeping, entitlement, and bigotry. These behaviours not only tarnish the image of the fandom but also inflict harm on everyone involved, from the fans to the actors and the creative professionals working behind the scenes.
Understanding Toxic Fandom Dynamics
Possessiveness
Possessiveness among toxic fans means they believe they own the content they're fans of, acting as if it's exclusively theirs. They see it as their territory, unlike respectful fans who understand appreciation doesn't grant ownership. In Japan, toxic fans of pop idol girls exhibit possessiveness, stalking and harassing the girls if displeased with their choices. This possessive mentality leads to attacks and threats (Lefler, 2023).
Entitlement
Entitlement goes right along with possessiveness, as toxic fans believe they own what or whom they're fans of, expecting creators to fulfil their demands. For instance, they might insist on a specific romantic pairing in a show and send death threats if not met. In contrast, a good fan may express preferences but understands creators may not always comply. They acknowledge not owning the content and respect creators' rights to decide the creative direction. Sometimes, fans identify with likable but flawed characters as a justification for their own negative behaviour (Lefler, 2023).
Feeling of Superiority
Toxic fans often feel superior to less intense or casual fans, even labelling them as "normies" or "Muggles." Wearing a show's t-shirt without being obsessive is frowned upon. They perceive non-fans as unintelligent and shallow, unable to fully appreciate what they're passionate about. This sense of superiority is based on linking fandom to intelligence. In contrast, healthy fans accept diverse preferences, understanding that people enjoy different things. Ironically, the fans who boast the most about their intelligence are often the least intelligent among those who share the same interest. Despite being a minority, they tend to attract media attention (Lefler, 2023).
Toxic Fandoms on Creative Industries
No one sets out to make an inferior film or perform poorly. Everybody involved in these projects gives it their all, and they are typically ardent supporters of the project they are working on.
Criticizing their efforts without offering constructive feedback and highlighting positives can leave creators feeling demoralized. After fans criticized the 2023 film Shazam! Fury of the Gods and targeted director David F. Sandberg, he expressed a desire to distance himself from future superhero discussions due to the toxicity he faced (Moore, 2023). This negativity prompted other filmmakers to share similar feelings.
Tumblr media
Toxic fandoms can seriously impact creators. Jake Lloyd, star of The Phantom Menace, retired from acting, citing public response and bullying as major reasons. Ahmed Best, Lloyd's co-star, faced emotional struggles after enduring years of attacks related to his character, Jar Jar Binks, in Star Wars films. He revealed feeling "alone" and contemplating ending his own life.
The Future of Toxic Fandom
Tumblr media
Regrettably, fandom has become increasingly polarized by issues like diversity and representation, much like they have in many other areas of American and other communities today (Vinney, 2022). Because of this, it appears likely that some fans will persist in disparaging and provoking anyone who supports inclusivity, including other fans and media creators, by mockingly labelling them as "SJWs", which is social justice warriors.
However, it's important to keep in mind that while bad actors frequently yell the loudest on social media, and their negative behaviour is further amplified by publicity, the majority of fans are not toxic. Creating an environment that prevents individuals from engaging in toxic fandom is achievable (Nieto, 2023). Platforms and fan communities could work together to enforce rules against mean behaviour and create more positive spaces. Fans themselves may take the lead in promoting respectful interactions and inclusivity. Celebrities and media might become more active in discouraging toxic behaviour. The key to a healthier online fan experience will likely involve a combination of collective efforts from various stakeholders.

The Fastest Man Alive finally gets his own live-action solo flick with several other superheroes from the DC Universe lending a helping hand. Ezra Miller portrays The Scarlet Speedster who uses his superpowers to travel back in time to change the events of the past, however worlds collide when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future.
Tumblr media
Oddly enough, with a number of superheroes making appearances, there is only one major super villain in this 2 hour and 24-minute affair, General Zod … a Superman villain. The Flash becomes trapped in a reality in which Zod has returned, threatening destruction, and there is no one to turn to. The Flash is left to coax a vastly different Batman (Michael Keaton) out of retirement to help rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian … albeit not the one he’s looking for, and to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows.
Tumblr media
The film starts out with an amazing sequence where the Ben Affleck Batman is in hot pursuit of criminals on his new and improved Batcyle and The Flash is left to rescue babies at a hospital. Watching this sequence of Affleck makes me realize how cool a solo movie with him might have been. Besides a large dose of action, the movie also relies on humor to carry the viewer through a nearly 2 and ½ hour film. Some of the jokes land, but unfortunately most of them don’t. Auspiciously though, the action is enjoyable enough to carry the bulk of this outing.
Tumblr media
After Barry changes the past and returns, he comes face to face with himself, or an 18-year-old version of himself. This eighteen-year-old version of Barry Allen is super too … super annoying. Present day Barry needs his other self to help him resolve the problems that he has created. Ahhh … time travel movies.
Tumblr media
Keaton’s portrayal is both nostalgic and fun. He delivers a couple of legendary lines from his original 1989 Bat-flick while his classic musical motif by Danny Elfman plays in the background during the major events. For a lot of Bat-fans this was a dream come true, although I was left amazed at how spry Batman was at 70-year-old.
Tumblr media
Sasha Calle’s Supergirl was lifeless and with no emotion, very reminiscent of Brie Larson’s unlikeable Captain Marvel. Another female character waisted was Kiersey Clemons’s Iris West; don’t expect any notable love story here. The main emotional draw of this film is the love between a boy and his mother. Barry goes to great lengths for the love of his mom, not realizing one minor adjustment to history has major ramifications throughout time.
Tumblr media
The Flash suffers from two major problems; horrendous special effects and the lack of any real villain. It’s hard to believe that with all the money spent on this flick, the computer animation is flat out cringeworthy in most places. The other thing that really bothers me is how DC has such awesome super villains that Warner Bros. has yet to tap into. The Flash is yet another example of that.
Tumblr media
With all that said, overall, I thought The Flash was still fun and much better than the last couple of DC movie releases (Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods). Even with the bad special effects, the CGI cameos were nice to see and added to the film’s enjoyment, however, like Barry Allen, this film is its own worst enemy. Instead of squaring up against a legendary villain from Flash’s large gallery of amazing rogues, the Scarlet Speedster is left to battle a timeline that he put into place with another, much more annoying, version of himself by his side.

VIDEO QUALITY 📽️ : A
In my opinion, you won't get a better picture quality than here. The Native 4K (2160p) transfer looks fantastic even with the horrible CGI in place. Colors burst on your screen at home that are equal to, if not better than, that on the silver screen.

Although the dialogue is extremely low and hard to understand at times, the action sequences are bombastic and sound wonderful in this Dolby Atmos & True HD 7.1 sound conversion.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will soon make a splash on home video as the final DC Extended Universe flick looks set to become available on home video in time for the spring.
Per ComicBook.com, T he Lost Kingdom will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K UHD on Mar. 12. An exclusive clip from the home release was included in the report, showing Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and Orm Marius (Patrick Wilson) attempting an unlikely escape. The news comes after it was confirmed the Aquaman sequel would make its digital debut earlier than anticipated as the DCEU blockbuster becomes available for streaming on Jan. 23, just over a month after it opened in theaters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The home video edition of The Lost Kingdom boasts several bonus features, including Atlantean Blood Is Thicker Than Water, exploring the dynamic between Arthur and Orm. Along with the digital release, the home video version also includes a behind-the-scenes documentary with director James Wan exploring how The Lost Kingdom came together, a featurette chronicling the Black Manta (Yahya Abdul Mateen II) and other tidbits about key locations and sequences in the sequel.
The DCEU Ends With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
The Lost Kingdom marked an up-and-down end to the ill-fated DCEU, following up from the commercially successful Aquaman, which grossed over $1.15 billion worldwide. The Lost Kingdom has earned over $378 million in global ticket sales against a budget of up to $215 million, with the film reportedly needing to make more than $400 million at the box office to break even. Thanks to its overseas appeal, The Lost Kingdom easily surpassed all other DCEU films released in 2023, including Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash and Blue Beetle. The sequel is closing in on Black Adam, which is next on the DCEU box-office charts at $393 million.
Also featuring Amber Heard, Dolph Lundgren and Nicole Kidman, The Lost Kingdom was panned by critics, receiving a 34% critical rating, though 81% of audience members liked the movie. The likelihood of Aquaman 3 seems low considering fan demand to see the film series has diminished. Wan insisted fan demand had to be high to ensure a potential threequel came to fruition.
The Aquaman franchise is also in jeopardy given the potential of Jason Momoa switching characters in the new DCU. Momoa has long been linked to playing a live-action Lobo in the DCU and has long been a fan of the comic book character, admitting he wants to portray the chainsmoking mercenary.
Bonus Features Revealed
The home video release will contain the following bonus features:
Finding the Lost Kingdom: Go behind the scenes as director James Wan reveals how he and the cast and crew pulled off their biggest endeavor yet, an epic sequel to the largest grossing film in the history of DC.
Aquaman: Worlds Above and Below: When the filmmakers set out to create a sequel that eclipsed the original in scale and scope, they knew they would have to send Arthur and the rest of the cast to all kinds of new wild and wonderful worlds both above and below the sea.
It's a Manta World: Black Manta is more powerful than ever now that he has discovered the Lost Kingdom of Necrus and taken possession of the Black Trident. From inspiration to execution, filmmakers reveal how they leveled Black Manta up to the realm of supervillains.
Necrus, The Lost Black City: Ages ago the great battle for the earth took place here, in this legendary lost Atlantean city. Discover how the filmmakers created the Black City from its "surface city" concept and its inhabitants: Undead Necrusians (Zombies), to its execution.
Escape from the Deserter World: From idea to execution, explore how the filmmakers created this barren desert landscape and the Deserter Prison, how its creatures and inhabitants were brought to life, and how they planned and executed the daring Orm "breakout" sequence.
Brawling at Kingfish's Lair: The Citadel is the last frontier of the ocean, a deep trench filled with sunken old ships, stacked high like a rusty city. From concept to completion, discover Kingfish's Lair, a bar within, where the worst of the worst hang out.
Oh TOPO!: The Tactical Observation and Pursuit Operative Octopus is a living legend and all-time fan favorite. Director James Wan and the filmmakers discuss the decision behind bringing TOPO back to the sequel and its promotion to Arthur's on-screen sidekick.
The Lost Kingdom hits digital on Jan. 23 and will be available via home video on Mar. 12.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023) – Review
Tumblr media
Still trying to work out the kinks of being a team, Billy Batson and his family must protect the city once again against Atlas’ three daughters.
Despite being formulaic, the first Shazam! acted as a playful treat against the darker and more tonally confusing DCEU films. The childishness of the performances and basic approach to its themes were a breath of fresh air and Shazam! Fury of the Gods looks to recreate that success beat for beat. There is nothing new or inspiring about David F. Sandberg’s sequel but it just about achieves the same lightness and humour that the first did.
Tumblr media
The threat in question are Atlas’ three daughters, who are trying to retrieve their powers back that were gifted to Billy. Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu play the older of the sisters, both enjoying the fantastical parts of their roles and offering an element of charisma to their one-dimensional characters. Rachel Zegler also does an admirable job as the third sister, but the performance that has always stood out in these films is the central performance from Zachary Levy.
Tumblr media
Now Billy is an established member of his quirky and wholesome family his fear of losing them comes creeping in. It’s definitely a theme that has a familiar ring to it but does enough to earn the sweeter moments between all of them. Unlike Vin Diesel murmuring “family” under his breath in the Fast & Furious franchise every so often, Shazam! Fury of the Gods has an earnest quality that makes its themes much more heartwarming and relevant to its plot.
It’s highly likely that Shazam! Fury of the Gods will slowly fade in the memory as the Superhero genre becomes more and more saturated. But, its universal themes and consistent humour do just enough to reach the level of the first film. Even if the final battle is a city wide CGI-fest, if Zachary Levy is at the centre it is always worth watching.

DC STUDIOS SLATE - FEBRUARY 2023
A bit late but here are all the updates from the new DC Chapter 1 announcement and what’s to come after the DCEU reset, which you can watch here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wY8XcmrIujE
~~~General notes
-Last month the entire DCEU (DC Extended Universe, DC's live action movies) was announced for a reset (no more Gal Gadot Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill Superman, etc; there were a lot of changes you can look up)
-DC's CEOs are James Gunn and Peter Safran; Gunn (who worked on Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy") is the one heading the reset and rearranging of the DCEU
-Gunn states that DC has been disconnected from film/television/gaming/animation for a long time; he aims to connect them more and create character/actor casting consistency that works within one story (presumably the DCEU)
-Anything outside of this (Matt Reeves' “The Batman”, Todd Phillip’s “Joker”, "Teen Tians Go!", etc) will be clearly labeled as DC elseward (not part of the DCEU)
-Gunn and Safran have begun mapping an 8-10 year plan of DC's future projects; this first chapter is called "Gods and Monsters"
-There will be 4 projects coming out over the next year
~~~2023 Future Projects
Shazam! Fury of the Gods
Gunn states Shazam has been in its own corner of the DCEU but will now connect directly into:
The Flash
The Flash will reset the entire DC universe
No mention of whether Ezra Miller will continue their role as Flash or not, though there is reports that Gunn and Safran are open to Miller's return
Blue Beetle
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
Will lead directly into the Chapter 1 projects
~~~First Look at Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters (not the full slate)
Creature Commandos
Animated TV series
Gunn plans to have characters move in and out of animated works, hopefully voiced by the same actor who plays their live action counterpart (think if Jason Mamoa kept doing his live action Aquaman stuff, as well as voice acted in whatever animated/gaming works the Aquaman character appeared in)
Waller
Live action TV series
Story of Amanda Waller (the one who created the Suicide Squad; she's like DC's Nick Fury)
Waller will team up with members from the Peacemaker franchise
Will be played by Viola Davis; story created by Christal Henry (Watchmen) and Jeremy Carver (Doom Patrol)
Superman: Legacy
Film
Gunn says this will be "the true beginning of the DCU"
Written by James Gunn
Will release in theaters July 11, 2025
Lanterns
HBO live action TV series
Story of John Stewart and Hal Jordan (a few other Lanterns will be peppered in)
Terrestrial-based show (almost like "True Detective" according to Gunn) where Hal and John will act as space-cops watching over precinct Earth; they will discover a terrifying mystery that will tie into the largest story of the DCU
The Authority
Film
Based on the WildStorm characters, who will be brought into the DCU and interact with all the primary DCU characters
Group of heroes who think the world is broken, and will fix it by any means necessary
Gunn's passion project that's a "different look at superheroes"
Paradise Lost
Live action TV series
"Like Game of Thrones with Westeros, but with the inhabitants of Paradise Island"
The Brave and the Bold
Film
Introduction to the DCU's Batman
Story of Batman and Damian al Ghul, based on Grant Morrison's comic run
Damian is an assassin and Bruce Wayne's biological son, who he tries to get in line; this is the story of them and "the beginning of the Batfamily in the DCU"
Booster Gold
HBO live action TV series
Booster Gold is a "loser" from the future who uses future technology to become a present-day superhero to gain love and admiration
"The superhero story of imposter syndrome"
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Film
Will turn Tom King's comic run (under the same name) into a "big science fiction epic"
Supergirl, unlike her cousin, was raised on a floating chunk of the destroyed planet Krypton after witnessing everyone around her perish; this film will explore her as a jaded character
Swamp Thing
Film
Very dark horror story about the origins of Swamp Thing
Will be outside of the DCU yet still feed into those stories
Personal Opinions
-I was never invested much in the DCU, just never seemed as appealing to me as Marvel, but if I hear good reviews I'll give it another shot
-Very relieved to hear the non-DCU stuff is still happening since that's where my DC interests lie
-If "The Flash" resets the DCU its a must watch if you want to keep up after this point, but if Ezra Miller is in it I don't want to watch; that mf should literally be in prison why are they still not fired (they replaced Gal, Henry, possibly Jason, but NOT Ezra? Tf?)
-I don't know much about Blue Beetle but I've seen a lot of hype (I'm also a fan of Jaime Reyes, BB's protegee) so I'll probably check it out (cheers to the BB x Booster Gold shippers lmao happy for y'all)
-I love animated stuff and would love if more comic characters got attention instead of the same lineup we always get so I'll be keeping an eye out for Creature Commandos, the characters look cool (plus its animated). Speaking of underrated character getting a spotlight...
-I AM SO FUCKING HYPED FOR WALLER. She's a hardass recruiter like Nick Fury and Viola Davis is an acting god so I am very pleased to see her getting her own stuff (plus more Peacemaker crew! But if y'all overshadow this series about a plus sized black woman to focus on the white boys in Peacemaker I'm throwing you off a pier); its also got Watchmen and Doom Patrol people working on it omfg its gonna be so good I am vibrating rn
-another Superman movie, they better make it stand out (I heard it delves more into Supes exploring his Kryptonian heritage beyond the powers which will be interesting, especially considering he was originally a metaphor for immigration rights)
-LANTERNS. L A N T E R N S. JOHN STEWART MY FUCKING BELOVED HE'S BACK. no seriously growing up I adored the animated Justice League series and John and Shiera were my favorite part of it, I'm so happy to have John back (also don't know much about the Lantern Corps so it'll be fun for me to learn more); let it be known that if Shiera x John makes a comeback I will actually disintegrate and ascend into Themyscira. SpEAkiNg oF-
-no amount of capslock keyboard smashes can convey to you how much of a slut I am for Wonder Woman and the Amazonians. It simply cannot be done. Any excuse for more Amazons I will latch onto like orphans to Batman, I NEED THIS (plus new amazons maybe? more amazona? Hippolyta? Artemis?? Nubia? yARA-)
-Midnighter. Apollo. Midnighter and Apollo. I would scream but my dog is present (seriously I'm gonna be so annoying about them when this drops, I've waited YEARS for these two). As for the rest I'm not as familiar with them but similar sentiment to Commandos, I'm excited to learn about new characters
-as a batfam stan first and a person second, I'm always nervous about how DC will handle them. I'm hoping it won't just be Son of Batman in (presumably) live action (also side-eyeing Gunn for calling Damian "Batman's actual son" like the whole ass rest of the batfam ain't right there); I'm also wondering why they're completely skipping over all the other robins/batfam and going straight to the current one, some of the others are very underrated and deserve to have their origins expanded on (mainly Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain, Duke Thomas and Tim Drake for on screen stuff); kind of a let down for me that there's no other news but can't say I'm surprised
-ok ngl the pitch for Booster Gold was strong and I am honestly invested (that last line was raw); rip BG stans he literally called your boy a loser im so sorry lmao (but lets be real that's exactly why you love him isn't it?)
-I'm used to a Kara that's very preppy and reactive so seeing her being jaded is gonna be interesting, I'm very excited and might honestly even check out Tom King's source material
-I know next to nothing of Swamp Thing so this'll be a nice way for me and others to get to know the character
Ranking every 2023 film I've seen since January 1 2023 to June 25 2024 from best to worst:
Oppenheimer- Eye opening and a chef kiss of a ending.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: Not as good as the first but still done very well and kept my interest even though I'm over the whole Multi-verse thing.
Poor Things- The message is simple but told in a unique way and was a very interesting watch.
Godzilla Minus One- A serious Godzilla movie is just a better Godzilla movie.
Blackberry- The start of this movie before the time jump is so great but it kinda goes down after that.
Asteroid City- It was a bit hard to follow but I got it pretty well and enjoyed the silliness and serious parts.
Killers of The Flower Moon- Too Long. Felt a lot of it could've been cut but still good and a story worth telling.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3- The stuff with Rocket is really well done but everything else is silly and not as done as well as the other two.
Maestro- I loved Carey Mulligan performance and didn't get the hate for this.
The Killer- I enjoyed it and was into most of it. Don't know what people expected.
John Wick: Chapter 4- If you don't take it seriously it's a fun watch.
Fingernails- Unique film that I enjoyed just for that.
Barbie- Better than I expected but are the male characters suppose to be more interesting than the females?
Nimona- Animation and characters are good but the story is a story you've seen before but told in a different way.
The Iron Claw- Good but felt it could've been better
The Boy and the Heron- I wanted a more personal story or a big fantasy adventure. This tried to do both and didn't work as well.
Late Night with the Devil-A interesting premise done well but not as scary as you would hope.
Next Goal Wins- Heartwarming and fun but maybe not as accurate and a bit cliche.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves- It's like a Marvel fantasy film and that's not necessarily a bad thing
Saltburn- I was a bit confused on how they wanted me to view this movie but it was good film.
The Creator- Liked better than others. Mainly for how it looked and the acting. The story was cliche.
Beau is Afraid- I was so excited for this but its message was so basic for such a weird story and didn't need to be as long as it was.
Hot Potato: The Story of the Wiggles- Didn't realize there was so much drama when it came to the Wiggles
Leave The World Behind- Very interesting premise that led to a letdown conclusion.
Knock at the Cabin- Wish it was done better than it was. It's a better M Night movie but felt it could've been better.
Super Mario Bros. Movie- Everything you heard bad about this movie is probably true but dangit nostalgia got me.
Past Lives- Oh god. I'm sorry okay but it wasn't as good as I hoped but the acting was good!
Saw X- One of the better Saw but nothing beats the first.
Dream Scenario- The premise is good but overstays its welcome.
Evil Dead Rises- It was fine. There wasn't much not to like about it but nothing blew me away either.
Scream 6- Let down from Scream 5 or whatever you want to call it. Too bad this is the end of Scream an (d they're never making another again (you heard me)
The Marvels- Not as bad as people say but felt it needed bigger stakes
Priscilla- A bit boring. Felt it needed more to show or say.
Missing- Gets silly by the end just like the first one but the lead in this was not good unlike the first one.
A Good Person- A very depressing watch with a lame ending.
Elemental- World is weird and doesn't make much sense and it's a Romeo and Juliet story as you expect but I still wasn't bored.
Blue Beetle- I wanted this film to be good so bad but it was so basic.
Stan Lee- Wasn't as biased as I thought but it was big Marvel love fest. 39- Shazam! Fury of the Gods- It's like the Shazam never grew up and he's really annoying in it.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: Feels so long since I've seen this. Kang was good for a bit but nothing else really stood out.
The Flash- I didn't hate this as much as everybody else. Probably mainly because of Ezra Miller performance even though I hate to admit that.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom- I don't know what this was but it wasn't Aquaman.
She Came to Me- The characters were lame for the most part.
Paint- Should've just made a Bob Ross biopic.
Wish- This was like a Disney tribute movie but not done well and just a mess.
Plane- Why did people like this? It was lame action movie that I barely remember.
Every Movie Watched in 2023: Ranked.
Unlike my previous ranked lists of TV, music, and games, I'm gonna try and wrap this up in one sentence thoughts of all the 117 films I watched this year.
117. Norbit. 0.5/5.
Eddie Murphy plays a nerd, an obese woman, and an Asian character, it's painfully unfunny.
116. Due Date. 1/5.
Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis are terrible people with terrible chemistry in this unfunny 2010 comedy.
115. Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey. 1/5.
Besides some decent gore, there's nothing this movie has going on.
114. Clash Of The Titans. 1/5.
Another despairing entry from 2010 enters the fray as Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes fail as portrayals of Zeus and Hades on every level.
113. The Third Saturday in October Part 5. 1/5.
Arguably in the so bad its good territory, but it annoyed me still.
112. Old Dads- 1.5/5.
Old man Bill Burr yells at cloud.
111. Hidden Strike. 1.5/5.
The novelty of Jackie Chan and John Cena on screen together is nowhere near good enough to carry the film.
110. Fast and The Furious- 1.5/5.
The first movie is shockingly more dull than I remembered as a youth.
109. Dark Shadows. 2/5.
The least engaging vampire film I've seen in a long time.
108. Justice League: Warworld. 2/5.
Imagine taking the anthology approach with variants of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman and your movie still sucks.
107. The People We Hate At The Wedding- 2/5.
Ben Platt, you will pay for your crimes.
106. Shotgun Wedding-.2/5.
Another disappointing wedding movie but this one had Jennifer Coolidge so it's slightly better.
105. Vacation Friends 2. 2/5.
Between this and Hidden Strike, this might not have been John Cena's best year, I'm afraid.
104. Shazam: Fury of The Gods. 2/5.
Maybe it's a good thing the DCEU is dead.
103. The Killer. 2/5.
Not bad on a technical level, but not what I was expecting.
102. Five Nights At Freddy's. 2/5.
Either be menacing or be goofy, pick a lane, FNAF!
101. Top Gun. 2/5.
Besides homoerotic undertones, I can barely recall the film.
100. In The Shadow of the Moon. 2.5/5.
A Philadelphia police offers spends their whole life trying to track down this killer and I promise you I cannot remember the plot twist.
99. Police Academy. 2.5/5.
The guy that makes sound effects with his mouth is a beast, I cannot front.
98. White Men Can't Jump (2023). 2.5/5.
Jack Harlow and Sinqua Walls will never be Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes.
97. Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham. 2.5/5.
Batman in the 1920s is fine...I guess?
96. Adult Swim's Yule Log. 2.5/5
Serial killers and aliens and possessed fire logs...there's too much going on.
95. Fractured. 2.5/5
Shutter Island but worse.
94. A Man Called Otto. 2.5/5
Not enough redemption for me to not still think of Otto as an asshole.
93. The Little Mermaid (2023). 2.5/5.
I like Hailie Bailey but the rest of this cast...mm.
92. Final Destination 3. 2.5/5.
Easily my least favorite of the Final Destination franchise.
91. Champions. 2.5/5.
Woody Harrelson coaching a special needs Basketball team has its moments.
90. Extraction 2. 2.5/5.
Didn't see the first one, but the fight scenes here were enough to carry the film at least this high.
89. The Flash. 2.5/5.
Warner Bros banked everything on a movie that harbors a scene that basically parades around long-dead actors in disgusting CGI.
88. Zom 100: Bucket List Of The Dead. 2.5/5.
Not sure how this holds to the anime or manga, but on its own it's fine I suppose.
87. Mars Attacks. 2.5/5.
A deeply bizarre film but some fun moments here and there.
86. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. 2.5/5.
Weakest Conjuring movie so far and it's not really close.
85. Barnyard. 2.5/5.
I liked this movie a lot more as a kid, but I respect it still as an oddity.
84. The Grinch (2018). 2.5/5.
One of the Christmas movies of all time.
83. Infinity Pool 2.5/5.
Deeply disturbing Nipple scene, I cannot.
82. Theater Camp. 3/5
Great cast, but need better material.
81. Renfield. 3/5.
No one matches the greatness of Nicolas Cage as Dracula.
80. Trilogy of Terror. 3/5.
The last story, "Amelia" is the most terror-fueled of the three stories.
79. Final Destination 4. 3/5.
One, it should've been called FD4 instead of "The Final Destination" because that's too confusing, and two, it has the weakest opening death scene of the bunch.
78. Private Parts. 3/5.
Howard Stern's rise to the top is mildly entertaining.
77. Blue Beetle. 3/5.
I like it when George Lopez gets work.
76. Kick-Ass 3/5.
No pun intended, but the fight scenes are pretty kick-ass.
75. Tetris. 3/5.
The second the guy stepped foot in Russia I sorta clocked out mentally.
74. No Hard Feelings. 3/5.
Jennifer Lawrence beating up teens while naked makes her an icon.
73. Totally Killer. 3/5.
A slasher mixed with time travel elements contributes to a fun film.
72. The Woman King. 3/5.
Powerful cast, but the subject matter didn't move me as much as I wanted it to.
71. Strange World. 3/5.
Nowhere near Disney's best, but it's got its moments.
70. Prometheus. 3/5.
I like how it's a prequel to the Alien movies.
69. Mission Impossible. 3/5.
The very first one feels tame, but I'm hoping the rest get more over the top as I try and go through them.
68. Dungeons & Dragons. 3/5.
I'm not into D&D, the game, but the movie was decent.
67. Insidious. 3/5.
Patrick Wilson was better in this than in Conjuring three. Wild.
66. The Last Voyage of the Demeter. 3/5.
It has its moments, but a vampire picking off shipmates drags too much, surprisingly.
65. The Boys of St. Vincent. 3/5.
This movie is why I don't fuck with the Catholic Church and why I make fun of them.
64. Rashomon. 3/5.
Classic movie involving an unreliable narrator trope, but I have a hard time feeling movies that came out before 1970.
63. Seven Kings Must Die. 3/5.
The movie sendoff for the show, The Last Kingdom, is better than the show's last three seasons.
62. Drunken Master. 3/5.
It has some nice fight choreography, but Jackie Chan has a better kung fu flick.
61. Stephen King's Cat's Eye. 3.5/5.
A better version of the Trilogy of Terror with better stories.
60. Silver Linings Playbook. 3.5/5.
Romcom with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradly Cooper is more devastating than funny.
59. You People. 3.5/5.
Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill are a fine duo for most of the film.
58. Cocaine Bear. 3.5/5.
Fun, but I was hoping for it to be more chaotic than it was.
57. Antman & The Wasp: Quantumania. 3.5/5.
Yes, its flawed in many ways, but I don't care cause I like how ugly MODOK looks and Paul Rudd.
56. Terrifier. 3.5/5.
Murderous clown rampage made some good content for a little bit.
55. The Blackening. 3.5/5.
A really funny take on the horror genre and black people in horror films.
54. Loaded Weapon 1. 3.5/5.
A parody film reminiscent of The Naked Gun or Scary movie franchise in some ways and I love that.
53. Lethal Weapon 1. 3.5/5.
Loaded Weapon 1 working off of a classic like this makes sense to me.
52. Don't Breathe 2. 3.5/5.
As someone who didn't see the first one, but ended up seeing this, I think there's some enjoyment in seeing a blind old man harm bad guys.
51. A Disturbance In The Force. 3.5/5.
A documentary about the horrid Star Wars Christmas special is honestly enlightening.
50. Nimona. 3.5/5.
Adequate animation coupled with likable leads give a good time for animation fans.
49. Rise of The Planet of The Apes. 3.5/5.
Caesar yelling "NO" gave me chills, bruh.
48. Stephen King's IT (1990). 3.5/5.
Tim Curry's Pennywise will forever be iconic.
47. Asteroid City. 3.5/5.
For a first ever viewing of a Wes Anderson film, it was a bit confusing at times, but fascinating nonetheless.
46. M3GAN. 3.5/5.
M3GAN was serving the entire time.
45. Kung Fu Panda 3. 3.5/5.
The weakest of the KFP movies, but still has a good main villain.
44. Fearless Hyena. 3.5/5.
This is the other better Jackie Chan movie I was talking about.
43. Elemental. 3.5/5.
The best love story ever told...not really, but it's cute.
42. Tangled. 3.5/5.
Also cute, but I can't look past the age gap.
41. X. 3.5/5.
Mia Goth was serving as well in this horror prequel to Pearl.
40. A.I. 3.5/5.
Very ambitious Spielberg project with tinge of creepiness that I'm unsure if it was intentional or not.
39. Violet Evergarden: The Movie. 3.5/5.
Gorgeous animation, likeable characters, HUGE problem with that age gap.
38. We The Animals. 3.5/5.
Based on a true story, I feel for the plight of these young boys.
37. Jackass Forever. 3.5/5.
Idiots doing dangerous stunts even in their older age remains idiotic fun.
36. Interview With A Vampire. 3.5/5.
Leagues above Dark Shadows as a vampire movie.
35. The Super Mario Bros Movie. 3.5/5.
Lovely animation and a fun take on the Mario franchise in spite of underwhelming voice performances from some, but not all.
34. Final Destination. 3.5/5.
The first one set a pretty high bar to top in its franchise.
33. Suzume. 3.5/5.
It's a good time, but there are opportunities not taken here that infuriate me.
32. Final Destination 2. 3.5/5.
The first scene on the highway is the best scene of anything the franchise provided.
31. The Princess Bride. 3.5/5.
Oh my god, I miss Andre The Giant.
30. Scream 6. 3.5/5.
There is a reason this franchise is arguably the king of the slashers.
29. Juice. 3.5/5.
Oh my GOD I miss Tupac TOO.
28. Knock at The Cabin. 3.5/5.
The classic Shyamalan twist is predictable, but it's still a pretty entertaining movie.
27. SISU. 3.5/5.
Soldier is intent on not letting Nazis take his gold and goddammit I GOTTA respect it.
26. Missing. 3/5.
Maybe the most fun of those kinds of thriller screenlife-type movies.
25. Atlantis: The Lost Empire. 3.5/5.
An underrated Disney classic I wish I saw sooner.
24. The Princess and The Frog. 3.5/5.
Dr. Facilier is one of Disney's coolest villains and his song is one of my favorites ever.
23. Beau is Afraid. 3.5/5.
Did NOT need to be 3 hours, but it definitely wasn't boring.
22. Alienoid. 4/5.
Time Travelling shenanigans lead to unbelievable fun adventure.
21. Venture Bros: Radiant Is the blood of the Baboon heart. 4/5
A beautiful, possible, send off to an underrated Adult Swim TV show.
20. Call. 4/5.
More time travelling shenanigans involved that I like for the most part until the dark ending.
19. One Piece Film: Red. 4/5.
I love One Piece to bits and this film satisfied me immensely as a One Piece fan.
18. Air. 4/5.
Better version of the Tetris movie.
17. Dredd. 4/5.
I respect that Karl Urban never once took off the helmet.
16. Evil Dead Rise. 4/5.
Bloodiest, goriest spectacle that's a triumph.
15. Edge of Tomorrow. 4/5.
In spite of Tom Cruise's flaws, damn if he isn't a movie star.
14. Fargo. 4/5.
Watching all the seasons of the show before seeing the film is really eye-opening to see where the seasons got their influence from.
13. High Fidelity. 4/5.
I could listen to the guys in the film talk about music all day.
12. Fahrenheit 11/9. 4/5.
I got so mad watching this documentary.
11. Speed. 4/5.
Everything on the bus to "Pop Quiz Hot shot" is pure cinema.
10. Oppenheimer. 4/5.
Human meditation on one of the most devastating acts pulled off in human history makes for troubling watch.
9. They Cloned Tyrone. 4/5.
Tyrone gets cloned and its sublime.
8. Another Round. 4/5.
A simplistic premise of seeing how far the human body can indulge while still working is so damn good.
7. Barbie. 4/5.
Not only is its message thought-provoking but it's funny as hell.
6. The Menu. 4/5.
Between this and The Bear, this was a good year for me and cooking-related media I watched.
5. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. 4/5.
Stunning animation, and two excellent antagonists help lend to a stellar animated film.
4. Prisoners. 4/5.
Hugh Jackman losing his shit makes for compelling watch.
3. John Wick 4. 4.5/5.
Action so good I could watch this forever.
2. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. 4.5/5.
If it was like ten minutes longer, it would be at my number one.
Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3. 4.5/5. I almost cried over a CGI raccoon, you bet your ass its my movie of the year.
Upcoming DC Movies: Complete Release Calendar
https://ift.tt/3u2VfrU
The DC Extended Universe is in full swing! With a healthy schedule of upcoming DC movies in development, the DCEU isn’t going away anytime soon, and there’s still lots to look forward to.
So, it’s time to take a look at all of the DCEU superhero movies that will be released over the next few years. And trust us, there are a ton of them on the way, and we expect more details will be announced as we go forward. We have all the release dates for every one of ’em right here, as well as official details, the most interesting rumors, and suggestions for further reading where appropriate.
Thanks to HBO Max, Suicide Squad 2 is on schedule for August 2021, with The Batman, Shazam 2, Aquaman 2, and more due in 2022. There’s a bright future for the newly revitalized DCEU movies!
Here’s how this works, because the schedule is getting a little weird. We’re starting with the DCEU movies that officially have release dates attached to them. Then we’ll get into the stuff that we know for 100% certain is in development, but that don’t have release dates yet. Then we’ll get into some of the long shots, the projects that are announced but quiet or seemingly dead, at the bottom.
Keep in mind that many of these are the CURRENT release dates as of this update, and all of these are subject to change. We’ll keep updating this with more information as we get it…
Our first trailer. Warning: gore & adult language & supervillains & adventure & heart. Can't wait to see it in a theater with all of you on August 6. #TheSuicideSquad pic.twitter.com/HdqlGVP0lB
— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) March 26, 2021
Suicide Squad 2
Aug. 6, 2021
David Ayer going to be too busy with other projects until further notice, and none other than James Gunn (of Guardians of the Galaxy fame) has stepped in to write and direct Suicide Squad 2. This is now called The Suicide Squad, which indicates something of a soft reboot, but expect this to remain a DCEU movie.
The cast is positively bonkers.
Returning from the first film we have Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, and of course Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn Scheduling issues forced Will Smith to bow out of the project as Deadshot.
But then that new cast is wild! John Cena is Peacemaker, with Idris Elba as Bloodsport, David Dastmalchian will play Polka Dot Man. Daniela Melchor will play a genderswapped version of Batman villain Ratcatcher…and there’s more, including Sylvester Stallone as the voice of King Shark! We have a full breakdown of the cast right here.
Pandemic be damned, this one arrives on HBO Max AND in theaters simultaneously, so that August release date isn’t going anywhere.
The Batman
March 4, 2022
So, speaking of movies that had their release dates shifted because of the coronavirus pandemic, The Batman recently had to move from June to October of 2021 after its filming was put on hold fairly early on, and now it has had to vacate its October release slot for March of the following year, thanks to the aforementioned Dune reschedule, and also another production halt after star Robert Pattinson was diagnosed with Covid-19. Fortunately, principal photography has wrapped and this is now well on its way to meeting that release date!
The Batman solo movie has Matt Reeves as director. Robert Pattinson is the new Batman. Not only that, this movie will likely kick off a brand new trilogy of Batman movies. Expect a more low-key, detective focused approach to the Dark Knight than we’ve seen in previous movies.
The Actors Who Have Played Batman
By James Aquilone and 1 other
In addition to Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Jeffrey Wright will play Commissioner Gordon. Jayme Lawson has a mystery role. Andy Serkis is Alfred Pennyworth. And then there are the villains to contend with! The Batman will feature an all-star rogues’ gallery of villains, with Paul Dano as the Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
DC Super Pets
May 20, 2022
OK, fine, this isn’t a DCEU movie project, and it’s an animated movie. But unless you have no soul, how can you resist Krypto, Streaky, Ace, Comet, and the rest of the amazing super pets? They had better be fighting the Brain Globes of Rambat in this movie, otherwise, we riot.
You can read more about DC Super Pets here.
Black Adam
July 29, 2022
Originally slated to be the villain of Shazam, Black Adam will instead be played by Dwayne Johnson in a solo movie. The character is certainly strong enough to sustain his own movie. Adam Sztykiel (Due Date, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul) is writing with Jaume Collet-Serra set to direct.
Black Adam Powers and Abilities Explained
By Mike Cecchini
This is the kind of thing that could work as a nifty prequel to further flesh out the mystical world of Shazam if they choose to go that route. More importantly, this movie will feature the DCEU introduction of the Justice Society of America, including Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher!
We’re currently on the lookout for more info, but Black Adam is supposed to start filming in early 2021, which seems unlikely at this time because of the global coronavirus pandemic. This film had been scheduled for December of 2021, but lost that date with all of WB’s recent release date shuffles. It’ll happen, it’s just a question of when.
You can read a little more about the Black Adam movie here.
The Flash
Nov. 4, 2022
Andy Muschietti (of Warner Bros’ IT movies) is the latest director to try and get The Flash movie to the screen. This project has had a really rough road. Christina Hodson, who clearly made the studio happy with her Birds of Prey script, is writing.
Why James Wan Turned Down The Flash Movie to Make Aquaman
Crisis On Infinite Earths Confirms DCEU Movies With Ezra Miller Cameo
By Kayti Burt
Ezra Miller will reprise his Justice League role as Barry Allen. Kiersey Clemons is Iris West. Ron Livingston will play Barry’s father, Dr. Henry Allen (replacing Billy Crudup who played the role in Justice League). But here’s where things get crazy…Ben Affleck will return to the role of Batman for this movie. And Michael Keaton will ALSO return to the role of Batman for this movie!
How is this possible? Because it’s based on the DC Comics Flashpoint story, which for the purposes of the movies will be used to create a big screen multiverse. Wow.
Oh, and it that’s not enough, this movie will introduce Supergirl to the DCEU, played by Sarah Calle!
This movie has had an extraordinary amount of trouble getting off the ground, so let’s see if the combination of Muschietti and Hodson keep this one on schedule for that release date. Or any release date. But pre-production is well underway, so it looks like Ezra Miller’s Barry will finally get his day in the sun.
Aquaman 2
Dec. 16, 2022
After it made a billion dollars at the box office, you bet your trident that Aquaman 2 is happening! Right now the plan is for James Wan to remain involved and start developing the movie, but he won’t decide whether or not to direct it until there’s a script in place. Fair enough. Patrick Wilson seems set to return, though, and of course, Jason Momoa will be back.
You can keep up with all our Aquaman 2 news right here.
Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods
June 2, 2023
Shazam 2 is now officially called Shazam: Fury of the Gods and…that’s about all we know about it right now.
One thing is for sure, though, this movie will retain the look, feel, and charm that made the first one so successful, since both director David F. Sandberg and writer Henry Gayden are returning. And this time we’ll have an entire Shazam family to help out!
Wait…did we mention the Sinbad cameo? No, really!
Now, let’s get into the projects that are in the works, but don’t have release dates yet. We’ve grouped these roughly in the order we expect to see them based on how far along they are.
Blue Beetle
There’s a Blue Beetle movie in the works. And unlike the character potentially appearing in the Booster Gold movie (more on that down below), this one would focus on Jaime Reyes, the magical tech powered teenage hero who wields the scarab of original Blue Beetle, Dan Garrett. Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss Bala) is writing the script, with Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) directing.
There’s no release date yet, but this is scheduled to begin production in fall 2021, so maybe we can pencil in a 2023 release date.
Read more about the Blue Beetle movie here.
Untitled Superman Project
Ta-Nehisi Coates is working on a Superman feature film with J.J. Abrams producing. No other info is currently available, but it appears to be a reboot.
“To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor,” Coates told Shadow and Act when the news was announced. “I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.”
Will this continue Henry Cavill’s time in the role, or will it take a new approach? Will this be a completely different take on the Man of Steel altogether? Time will tell!
Zatanna
One of the most powerful magicians in the DC Universe is getting her own film, with a powerful writer attached. Emerald Fennell, who wrote and directed the brilliant Promising Young Woman has signed on to write a Zatanna movie for Warner Bros. No other details are available at this time, but you don’t sign an Oscar hopeful for a movie like this unless you’re serious about getting it moving.
The New Gods
Ava DuVernay will direct a movie based on Jack Kirby‘s New Gods. It’s not clear yet whether this will fit into the continuity of the other DCEU movies, but really, it doesn’t need to. The New Gods is a cosmic story of such incredible scale that there’s no reason to try and connect this to earthbound concerns. Tom King, the DC Comics writer who has made waves with his work on the New Gods-centric (and Eisner Award-winning) Mister Miracle series, is co-writing the screenplay with DuVernay.
The New Gods is the story of two worlds, the warlike Apokolips and the peaceful New Genesis, each populated by immensely powerful beings with fantastic technology. Darkseid is the evil dictator of Apokolips, and he swaps sons with Highfather, the leader of New Genesis, and each child is raised on the opposite world. Darkseid’s son, Orion, becomes a troubled champion of New Genesis, while Highfather’s son (raised by Darkseid) revolts and becomes the super escape artist, Mister Miracle. This barely scratches the surface of what this movie is about. We tried to get into more detail about it here.
The Trench
Aquaman director James Wan and producer Peter Safran are working on developing other corners of Arthur’s world in addition to Aquaman 2. The Trench will focus on the terrifying piranha-like beasts seen briefly in the first film, and will be a smaller-scale, more horror-focused movie, and one that won’t feature any of the main characters from Aquaman. A different approach to superhero movie worldbuilding, for sure. Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald are writing.
Read more about The Trench here.
Supergirl
Oren Uziel is working on a script for a Supergirl movie. It’s not clear what kind of ties this will have to the currently dead Man of Steel franchise, especially given the uncertain state of Henry Cavill’s future as Superman.
But one thing is for sure, the DCEU does have their Supergirl! Sasha Calle will be introduced as Kara in The Flash movie, and presumably she’ll lead this one, as well.
Green Lantern Corps
Fairly or unfairly, Green Lantern has the most working against him. The 2011 film failed to kickstart the DC Universe as planned, and received a lukewarm (at best) critical and box-office reception. There are, of course, ways around this.
New Green Lantern Series Expands Cosmic DC Universe
By Jim Dandy
One way is to simply not make Hal Jordan the central Green Lantern of the movie. Thisone may focus on as many as three Green Lanterns, with the main focus on a kind of buddy/cop movie with John Stewart and Hal Jordan. Geoff Johns is writing the script, but there’s no director in place yet, however Johns should be turning in his script soon and that will allow the director search to kick off in earnest. There’s also the recent announcement of an HBO Max Green Lantern TV show to consider. It remains to be seen what (if any) connection that will have to this movie.
We have more details on the Green Lantern Corps movie right here.
Plastic Man
This one is a little further off in the future as all they’ve done is hire a writer. But there is definitely a Plastic Man movie in the works, with Amanda Idoko (ABC’s The Mayor) working on a screenplay. We have some more details on it right here.
Blackhawk
Steven Spielberg has long wanted to make a Blackhawk movie, and he’s finally going to get his wish. And if it was your wish to see Steven Spielberg direct a DC movie, you’re also in luck. David Koepp is writing the screenplay. We have more details on this one here.
Batgirl
Joss Whedon was originally supposed to write, direct, and produce the Batgirl movie, one that was reportedly based on Gail Simone’s recent New 52 take on the character. He has exited the project and now Christina Hodson is writing. There is no director at the time of this writing, and rumor has it that this will be a project set to go direct to HBO Max.
Deathstroke
Joe Manganiello has long been cast as Slade Wilson, known to DC fans as Deathstroke. He even made a cameo in one of the Justice League theatrical post-credits scenes back when that was supposed to set up a Justice League 2 that never happened. But it turns out that the original version of that cameo in Zack Snyder’s Justice League was meant to set him up as the villain of The Batman solo movie (that is no longer the case),
Deathstroke was also once set to get a solo film, written and directed by The Raid‘s Gareth Evans. Despite Manganiello returning for a brief scene as Deathstroke in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it doesn’t seem likely that his solo film is happening anymore, which is a real shame as he would have been great in the role.
Justice League 2
Justice League 2 isn’t likely to happen at the moment given how the first film underperformed at the box office. It once had a release date, but that long since evaporated. Still, “The Snyder Cut” generated considerable buzz on HBO Max, and featured a teaser scene that was very much meant as a preview for what the director was looking for in his dark vision of Justice League 2.
Nightwing
The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay has been tapped to direct a Nightwing movie. Bill Dubuque (The Accountant) is working on a script. No other details are currently available, and this one doesn’t have a release date yet.
Justice League Dark
At one time this was called Dark Universe, until Universal came along and ruined that name with their failed horror movie shared franchise. This one will feature the supernatural characters from the DC Universe. Characters like Swamp Thing, Demon, Deadman, Zatanna, and even John Constantine.
Guillermo del Toro was attached to this one for quite some time, but had to leave the project. Then it was Doug Liman. Now J.J. Abrams is involved as producer for what will likely be an HBO Max series.
And now for the long shots…projects mentioned, rumored, or that haven’t had any movement in a while.
Man of Steel 2
Never officially announced, with no director or writer ever attached…another solo Superman movie starring Henry Cavill seems pretty unlikely at the moment. Especially considering that Henry Cavill appears to be finished as Superman, there’s an excellent Superman & Lois TV series on the air, and the aforementioned movie in the works from Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Cyborg
OK, to be perfectly honest, the Cyborg movie almost certainly isn’t happening. Ray Fisher made his first (very brief) appearance as Vic Stone/Cyborg in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and played a crucial role in Justice League. At one point he was supposed to feature in The Flash solo movie, too, but it’s not clear if that’s still the case.
Crisis on Infinite Earths Ending Reveals New DC Multiverse
By Mike Cecchini
Basically, though…let’s be completely real: this movie isn’t happening. There hasn’t been any movement on it in years, despite once having been assigned an April 3, 2020 release date. As far as we can tell there has been no additional movement on this movie in years. It’s probably dead. Too bad, since Ray Fisher was great in the role.
Harley Quinn
Yes, there’s also another Harley Quinn movie in development! Well, at least there was at one point. Whether this is a solo project or something else remains to be seen. Keep in mind that while very good, Birds of Prey didn’t set the world on fire at the box office, which means that Warner Bros. might be a little more wary than before about additional solo projects for Harley, even with Margot Robbie’s star power. As for what shape this movie was supposed to take in the first place, your guess is as good as ours!
Gotham City Sirens
David Ayer is looking to direct a Harley Quinn and friends “girl gang” movie. Geneva Robertson-Dworet is writing, with Margot Robbie producing. It’s not clear where this stands on anybody’s priority list these days. Ayer has moved on to other projects, and as mentioned above, Birds of Prey wasn’t quite the financial success that Warner Bros. had hoped for. It’s possible that Gotham City Sirens has been put in a drawer for the time being.
Booster Gold
Flash and Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti is going to executive produce and possibly direct a Booster Gold movie. Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class) will write the script.
Joker: 6 Actors Who Have Played the Clown Prince of Crime
By David Crow
Early reports described this as a “superhero buddy cop movie” that would involve Blue Beetle. We’ll get you more updates on this as they become available, but keep in mind there hasn’t been any movement on this in a long time, and the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle movie is probably taking priority for the studio.
Deadshot
Warner Bros. knows they have one of the biggest stars in the world already in costume, so they’re reportedly considering a Deadshot solo movie, as well. But with Smith now having left Suicide Squad 2 this project seems like it may not ever materialize. Unless, of course, switching Idris Elba’s role (he was originally intended as Smith’s replacement as Floyd) means they’re keeping the door open for him down the road.
Lobo
The Lobo movie may attempt to be the DCEU movies’ equivalent of Deadpool. Jason Fuchs must have impressed Warner Bros. with his work on Wonder Woman, because he’s on board to write the script for this one. Michael Bay might direct. But with Lobo appearing on Krypton season 2 and a TV series for the character that had once been put into development (but is probably dead), this might be less of a priority for the studio now.
We have some more info on the project here.
Joker & Harley Quinn Movie
At one point there was yet another Joker-centric flick in the works. This one, a Joker and Harley Quinn movie is absolutely part of the DCEU movie continuity would pick up where Suicide Squad left off. There are currently no additional details available on this one, either. This probably won’t happen, however.
Warner Bros. is very happy with how their R-rated, out of continuity Joker movie performed both critically and commercially, and with Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar win, it’s a safe bet that they’re at least quietly hoping to make him their definitive Clown Prince of Crime for the foreseeable future…even though Joker was never intended to be part of the DCEU.
Not to be confused with…
Jared Leto Joker Movie
Honestly, we’re having trouble keeping track of all these, but yes, there was also yet another Joker solo movie in development focusing on Jared Leto’s version of the character in the works at one point. Apparently, this has long been canceled, but we’re keeping it here to be safe for a little longer.
Alpha Centurion War
Laurissa Owen "Lori" Jones said, "Amelia Himmat Mishra (a bisexual Hindu Black British South Asian Indian woman of color) also known as the Blue Bionic or the Crimson Cyborg," referring to Amelia's bionic left arm after she lost her real left arm in the intergalactic war in the 23rd century to free the Vega System and the Sol System from Earth's colonialism and imperialism and referring to her cybernetic right leg after she lost her real leg in the intergalactic war in the 24th century to free the Andromeda Galaxy and Milky Way Galaxy from the Terran Empire's neocolonialism and occupation. Lori Jones said, "As the daughter of Athena and a homo magi, as the niece of Ares and Aphrodite, as the goddaughter of Mars and Bellona." "I have lived a long time ever since the ancient past and I have met many gods and goddess of many many pantheons." "Such as the Norse, the Aztec, the Celtic, the Mayan, the Greek, the Chinese, the Polynesian Indigenous Pasifika of Moana, the Roman, the Indigenous of Turtle Island, the Japanese, the Egyptian, & the Hindu." "And I see the mark of the Hindu gods and goddesses on you Amelia."
Amelia said, "Back then in the 22nd century I was outed as bisexual by someone I trusted and I had to flee from my home in India." "I went to Kashmir." "Something happened and from then form my eyes changed." "I gained a third eye in the form of ultimate vision." "Its how I met my wife Scarlet Soldier also known as Maysa Nabila Uzun (a lesbian Muslim Black African Egyptian Middle Eastern Turkish woman of color). "I met the goddess that I worshiped Saraswati and she gave me what I always wanted since I was young." “Something from the goddess Durga.” "Wisdom, knowledge, power, control, influence & supremacy." “I could withstand it with my chakra and inherited wisdom from my family’s ancestry and my long lived culture.”
Lori Jones said, "But I do not see just her mark on you." "The gift of ultimate vision from Durga given to you by Saraswati is the most obvious yes." "But I sense the mark of the other Hindu gods and goddesses on you." "You Amelia are like Shazam from the DC Prime Earth that we visited." "You like him have divine and celestial gifts from the gods." "But unlike him you do not have gifts from Greco Roman pantheon but you have gifts from the Hindu pantheon." "Hindu gods and goddesses that you worship like Krishna, Vishnu, Brahma, Lakshmi, Durga, & Saraswati gave you gifts." "And the gods and goddesses that you do not worship like Shiva, Rama, Indra, Parvati, & Kali gave you gifts as well." "As you are their champion and you are their chosen hero."
"You truly truly are the daughter of Athena, Lori," Amelia said as she used her ultimate vision, "only you, Chun Hei Kim, Alex Smith/Lexi Smith, & Maysa know such a thing." Lori Owen Jones unsheathed her two divine and celestial Greco Roman swords of the gods forged by Vulcan. She entered her Amazonian Rage form given to her as the niece of Ares. She then entered her Goddess of War Fury form given to her as the goddaughter of Mars and Bellona. A wraithlike form of Ares, Mars, Bellona, Aphrodite, Zeus, Hera, Jupiter, Hades, Vulcan, Pluto, Juno, Neptune, Venus, & Athena appeared behind Lori.
"You truly wish to challenge me niece of Ares and Aphrodite, knowing full well the gifts I have." "You still wish to fight me knowing the true reason why I can go toe to toe with Chun Hei Kim a container and prison of a dragon emperor god, Maysa Nabila Uzun a ultimate level empath and absolute level telepath, & Alexander Mack Smith/Alexandria Macy Smith the strongest shapeshifter and changeling in all omniverses?"
"Damn right I am." "I never back down from a fight!" "Not as the daughter of Athena, the niece of Ares and Aphrodite, & the goddaughter of Mars and Bellona!"
"Well who am I to turn down a challenge from a war child?!" "I accept your challenge, goddess of war!" roared Amelia as a ethereal Deva and an Asura appeared behind her. Amelia then unsheathed two plasma hard light Khanda swords and summoned four ethereal arms to wield the other four plasma hard light Khanda swords she kept on the waist of her power armor. Amelia's bindi and henna started glowing cobalt as she used the other gifts of the Hindu pantheon.
"I as the second in command of Alexander Mack Smith/Alexandria Smith want to know why he/she/they fear and respect you so much!" she roared as she soared using her power of flight given to her by solar radiation and charged at Amelia snarling as she clashed her swords against hers.
BBC The Graham Norton Show: Who is Rachel Zegler?
New Jersey-born Rachel, who is 20-year-old, can be seen in Steven Spielberg's remake of West Side Story, playing Maria opposite Ansel Elgort's Tony.
Rachel was cast after Steve Spielberg put out an open casting call for actors to audition for the film and she was cast from 30,000 applicants.
Speaking on the show about the process, she said it was "a fairy-tale come true," and added: "I manifested working on the film – I always had a picture of the original film in my locker at high school. 30,000 people went for the role, and I had nine auditions – no job is worth that but this one was!”
She said: "The one thing I asked Steven Spielberg for when I got the part was to still do my senior school musical production of Shrek and he said yes!”
From the age of 14 the star has run a YouTube Channel on which she shares her singing talents, and one of her videos - Shallow from A Star Is Born - has racked up 11 million views on Twitter.
She recently won a Golden Globe for her performance as Maria, too. Of Columbian and Polish descent, Rachel was the first Latina to win in the Best Actress - Musical or Comedy, and the youngest ever winner.
Her next roles will be Snow White in Disney's live action remake and she's also joined the sequel to Shazam!, Fury of the Gods.
Rachel, talking more about her very first film role playing Maria, said: “It’s so cool and unlike anything I could have imagined. It is definitely a baptism by fire. I’ve seen the film nine times and that is enough for me as I find it very hard seeing and hearing myself on screen, but I am very proud of what we did.”
Warner Bros. has left the trailer for the Blu-ray and 4K Extremely HD launch of Zack Snyder’s Justice League unlisted on their official YouTube channel. By now, virtually everybody is aware of the story of how Snyder was pressured to go away Justice League’s manufacturing in 2017 resulting from a household tragedy. Joss Whedon was then introduced in to finish the movie, and in doing so, modified nearly all the things about his predecessor’s imaginative and prescient. The discharge of what’s now referred to as “Josstice League” and subsequent tales of a troubled manufacturing/studio interference led to petitions/campaigns demanding the studio to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut.
Not often do fan campaigns acquire the sort of traction that ultimately provoked the studio into financing Snyder’s Justice League. Following its launch on HBO Max earlier this yr, his four-hour minimize has been universally praised as superior to the theatrical minimize. Regardless of additional campaigning, WB/DC Movies has proven no real interest in restoring Snyder’s plans for his or her DC Prolonged Universe. Regardless, Snyder’s Justice League was a hit, and Snyder took to Twitter again in June to announce the discharge of the Snyder Minimize on 4K Extremely HD and Blu-ray on September 7.
Associated: The Justice League Sequels Would Have Been Unhealthy Information For New DCEU Characters
Underneath circumstances that may solely be described as weird, WB has left the promotional trailer for the Blu-ray and 4K Extremely HD launch Snyder’s Justice League unlisted on their official YouTube channel as of writing this text. For these unfamiliar with the inside workings of YouTube, movies might be made public, non-public, or unlisted, the latter that means it may possibly solely be watched if different folks share it—the video doesn’t present up by way of the algorithm, feeds, or notification bells. The video was posted over two weeks in the past and has garnered somewhat over 80k views due to Snyder-Verse loyalists. Watch, like, remark, and share it under:
Click on Right here to View the Authentic Submit
If it wasn’t apparent earlier than, WB by no means making this trailer public is a transparent indicator that executives need folks to neglect in regards to the Snyder Minimize. It’s value noting that the identical YouTube account posted a public trailer for the Blu-ray and 4K launch of Josstice League not lengthy after the premiere of Snyder’s Justice League, a transfer that was met with harsh criticism. It’s truthful to say that WB hasn’t fared properly within the courtroom of public opinion of the previous few years, particularly relating to their dealing with of the DCEU. That being mentioned, WB and Snyder’s relationship is stranded, and understandably, the studio needs to keep away from controversy surrounding Justice League. Nevertheless, why spend money on slicing a trailer, producing it, after which not put it up for sale? Copies appear to be promoting properly regardless.
It’d be disingenuous to say that followers aren’t excited for upcoming DC Movies together with The Flash, The Batman, Black Adam, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. So, WB’s dealing with of the Snyder Minimize is more and more unusual. Snyder himself has mentioned that the restoration of his universe is very unlikely, and he in all probability has no want to return to the franchise at this level. Along with Justice League’s epilogue, the director has talked at size about his plans for future DC movies. Zack Snyder’s Justice League seems to be to be the top of the street for the Snyder-Verse, and its bodily launch is a good way for diehards to take residence a bit of cinematic historical past. Even when it’s historical past Warner Bros. would moderately be forgotten.
I’m a Skrull, you’re a Skrull, everyone’s a Skrull
Skrulls have been announced as the bad guys for Captain Marvel (that’s Marvel’s Captain Marvel, not the guy who yells Shazam from DC, who is now just called Shazam. Fine.) If you don’t know what that means then ignore this entire post. BUT! If you are interested in the consequences of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, read this shit.
So if Skrulls are in Captain Marvel that means somebody is gonna end up being a Skrull. Skrulls if you don’t know are an alien race in the Marvel comics who mainly are known for being able to impersonate other characters. The Secret Invasion event in 2008 was known for a shitload of characters being revealed to have been Skrulls for possibly decades, erasing entire years and hundreds of issues of their character growth because they had actually been a fucking green alien. Characters like Spider-Woman, Hank Pym (Ant Man) and Elektra were revealed to have not been themselves for years.
Now I don’t think it benefits the MCU to reveal that any character has been a Skrull for years and years at this point. I think it is detrimental to the integrity of the franchise to reveal that, for example, Tony Stark has been a Skrull since the end of Avengers 1 (the real Tony never came back from the portal; he was Skrull).
Now Skrulls can shapeshift so it is POSSIBLE that at any point in the hypothetical Avengers 4/Secret Invasion movie, we see--for example--a Skrull impersonating Spiderman while the real Spiderman is somewhere else. I think this is possible but a stupid idea that will only complicate things so I’m going to ignore it.
In my hypothetical movie, between Infinity War and A4, at least one and up to 3 characters become captured (not killed although you could do that) and replaced by Skrull dopplegangers. These characters will, in my estimation, have 2 distinct characteristics:
1) They will appear in a movie they otherwise have no business being in (kind of like Falcon in Ant Man) 2) They will act slightly out of character in this movie (probably to the ire of fans for up to a year until A4 comes out and it’s revealed they were a Skrull all along).
So: CHARACTERS WHO ARE VERY POSSIBLE TO BE REVEALED AS SKRULLS: Tony Stank/Iron Man Natasha/Black Widow Wanda/Scarlet Witch Hank Pym (original Ant Man) Hawkeye Rhodey/War Machine Sam/Falcon Nick Fury
CHARACTERS WHO MIGHT BE SKRULLS BUT PROBABLY NOT: Star Lord (stupid) Spiderman (also stupid) Steve/Captain America Bucky/Winter Soldier CHARACTERS WHO ARE VERY UNLIKELY TO BE SKRULLS: Dr. Strange Bruce/The Hulk The Vision All other GOTG (Drax, Gamora, Nebula, Groot, Rocket, Mantis) Thor Loki Scott/Ant Man Hope/Wasp Carol/Captain Marvel Black Panther ANY secondary/minor non-hero character (Happy Hogan, Pepper Potts, Selvig etc.)
Why my choices?
My very unlikely pile is mostly based off narrative consistency and logic; Hulk is out because that would just lead to another Hulk vs Avengers fight and we saw that twice already (plus he fights Thor in Ragnarok). Vision is a robot so I just doubt it. Like Hulk, Ant/Giant Man already fought the other Avengers in Civil War so they shouldn’t retread that. Thor and Loki are gods so they shouldnt be able to be Skrull’d effectively, and nobody would notice if Loki were acting evil anyway. All of the GOTG are either weird body types that are ineffective for Skrull reveals (Groot, Rocket, Mantis) or are already green or another colour making a Skrull reveal anticlimactic (Gamora, Drax, Nebula). Strange is magic, bitch. Hope, Carol and Black Panther are all too new to make effective reveals; who cares if Carol is revealed to be a Skrull when she’s only been in like 2 movies?
Star Lord and Spiderman are possibilities as there’s no logic preventing it but I don’t see it happening because they are comic relief type characters (kind of) and neither makes real sense in the narrative to be Skrulls. Imagine trying to say Peter was a Skrull in Homecoming 2. It would suck. Steve and Bucky are just too pure of characters to effectively corrupt as Skrulls without massive fan backlash. (Look at Steve working for HYDRA in the comics right now.)
That leaves Tony, Nattie, Wanda, Hank, Hawkeye, Rhodey, Sam and Nick Fury. (Excuse me for putting like 3 black supporting characters in this tier I swear it’s not intentional.)
I am assuming there are up to 3 Skrulls in the movie. 1 will become a Skrull offscreen between movies, but they are ALIVE and captured by the Skrulls. They get rescued in 3rd act. I think Wanda or Hawkeye are decent picks. Once this Skrull is killed at the end of Act 1 of A4 the rest of the team will be VERY paranoid (almost The Thing like) and start to turn against each other. This ends when one of the others are revealed to be a Skrull as well. Maybe this characer only recently became a Skrull (like within the movie) and the real character actually dies in this movie. This could be Rhodey or Sam or Hawkeye IMO. But they could also just be captured alongside the 1st Skrull victim. (I think Hawkeye is good for either of these because you could make his return mean that Skrull-Hawkeye has been with his family for years which makes real Hawkeye grow apart from them, leading to maybe a Hawkguy Fraction type turn for the character where maybe he appears in a Spiderman movie?) The Avengers, assured that none of them are Skrulls anymore (via magic or technology, don’t care) go to save the guys from the Skrull empire.
Last turn: maybe during the climax is it revealed that a last major character like Nick Fury or Tony is a Skrull, and has been for a while now. Nick Fury is a character this can do the least damage to since Fury is always keeping secrets. Tony however, depending on how long he has been a Skrull, could be MASSIVELY damaging to his character. I think if he is revealed to be a Skrull any longer than “since Infinity War” it will be permanently damaging to the MCU. Dunno what to say here.
Any thoughts?
Zachary Levi, star of DC’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods wants to see Billy Batson face off against Spider-Man’s Peter Parker. Originally an MCU star himself, Levi played Thor Odinson’s companion Fandral in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World and 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. In 2017, he was also cast in the leading role of Shazam, the magical alter-ego of the teenage foster child Billy Batson.
Grossing over $366 million in the worldwide box office and earning positive reviews, a sequel was announced shortly after the first Shazam! was released in 2019. While details about the film’s potential plot have been scant, at last year’s DC Fandome, director David F. Sandberg announced that the sequel’s official title would be Shazam! Fury of the Gods. With DC Fandome 2021 also just around the corner, a new sneak preview is expected to be streamed as part of this year’s event program.
More recently, Levi and some of his fellow cast mates also attended Dragon Con and led a Shazam! panel. According to The Direct, Levi and the cast were asked which Marvel characters they would most like to see their DC superheroes face off against. Levi had two answers, firstly suggesting Thor, because “we’re both like Gods of Thunder” and then moving on to suggest that Spider-Man’s Peter Parker might be the best opponent because he’s “similar to Billy Batson.” Check out his comments below:
“Split decision for me, it’s either fight Thor, cause you know we’re both like Gods of Thunder essentially; shooting electricity at each other. Plus you know, I kinda made a little cameo in that whole situation. Just the irony of it would be fun…
But also, I think there’s only one character, in all of comic-dom, both DC, Marvel, whatever it is, there’s only one character that I think is similar to Billy Batson: and it’s Peter Parker… I think Billy and Peter having a fight would be really fun… they would become friends after the fight!”
The concept of a potential DCEU and MCU crossover event has long been on the wish lists of dedicated fans, and the idea of Shazam facing off against Spider-Man would most certainly be a spectacle for audiences to witness. However, given the difficulties Marvel Studios have previously faced working around the rights issues with Sony to have Spider-Man appear in their own films, it seems highly unlikely that such a crossover with DC would be feasible anytime in the immediate future. Yet, in a world where studios seem intent on continually one-upping themselves and are always looking to develop the next big comic book adaptation, the various studios involved may see the box office potential in collaborating on a Marvel vs DC property at some point in the future.
After all, Spider-Man himself was the first ever Marvel character to meet a hero from the DC Universe. As far back as 1976, Spidey began the trend of Marvel vs DC comic crossover events in Superman vs The Amazing Spider-Man. If Peter Parker can manage to face off against the Man of Steel in the comics, there’s no reason he shouldn’t be able to hold his own against Levi’s Shazam. Until then, however, fans still have plenty to look forward to with Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ upcoming DC Fandome panel.
