Mituna is...

Difficult. Much like Damara, he doesn't exactly speak coherently, or have much pleasant to say. He's also a character defined, nay, completely reshaped by trauma; the closest Trollian equivalent in my mind is Ghost Aradia. Mituna needs a big overhaul; like Dams, he has a cool design, a cool name, but not much else. Let's see what we can take from Sollux and the Helmsman and extrapolate into something else.

Mituna Captor is a cadet in the Beforan Psionic Core, and the Page of Doom. He experiences mood swings even more than Sollux, oscillating between a confident high-energy sardonic side and a deeply apologetic depressed one, reflecting the most dualist Class, Page, and its partiularly stark conception of an "unevolved" and "evolved" version of a Player.

His Lusus is a hornet, and he (compreses double leters into one). He leans into yellow-and-black aesthetics, just as Sollux did with red and blue. He's practically blind without his bifocals, and, like his Ancestor, the Cybernet, tends to regard the elder Captor's creation of the internet as a deeply regrettable mistake.

Mituna is deeply frustrated with his societal role; while there are no strict blood hierarchies on Beforus, those born with his/Damara's brand of psionics are under quite a lot of pressure to use their abilities in certain societally permitted ways, such as his already having been funneled into a literal pilot program. (He frequently comes into conflict, potentially of a Pitch variety, with Darmen, who believes him to be a waste of a destiny of flight.)

Mituna's real desire is to join the ranks of Law Enforcement, a fitting occupation for a Doom Player, along with Matesprit Latula; he has studied extensively for the job, though when depressed, admits it unlikely he would ever make the cut. (This is inspired by the old Troll Cops Fanon.)

His Land is the technological dystopia LOPAO, Land Of Punk And Order, and his Chumhandle is tumultArrested.

Wednesday: Kankri.

Pairing: Raphael x Raksha (OC, not Tav/Durge) I consider Tav a separate character with their specific story elements - Raksha never gets abducted by the Mind Flayers, nor she ever gets a tadpole. Her home is also not Baldur's Gate but the city of Helgabal, in the kingdom of Damara! :)

Warnings: 18+ for sexual themes (in later chapters), age gap (Raphael is like... *several* centuries older, if not millennia), slow burn.

Summary: Eleven years before the events of Baldur's Gate 3, Raphael's attentions for a young, ambitious tiefling turn into something deep enough for him to want her as his bride. There's only one problem - Raksha slays infernal beings for a living. (This is pretty much an experiment feat. a Raphael more in touch with his human feelings)

Raphael's mind was so inconveniently clouded by that mortal; a tiefling whose veins bore Archdevil Baalzebul's blood - his father's greatest and most hated rival.

Four long years he'd been watching, stalking her since she started her rise to Paladin Captain at nineteen until now, at twenty-three. If Mephistopheles' ambition to oust Asmodeus mirrored his own, Raksha's rapid promotion wasn't too different from Baalzebul's rise as the Master of the Nine Hells' favorite - but unlike his father, Raphael saw that as something worthy of praise rather than enmity.

Fate was not without irony for the man who adopted and raised Raksha was the head of an extremist sect of the cult of Ilmater, the "Martyred Father" - the young tiefling's zealotry was one of the main reasons she managed to climb the ranks so fast: her dedication to purge the world from vice and sin brought her to the deepest pits of Avernus to fight against evil in its home.

But that didn't deter Raphael from wanting Raksha for himself, even if he was everything she fought against: she was the forbidden fruit, the sweetest he would ever taste.

He would stay in the mirror room at the House of Hope for hours, scrying the tiefling go about her life, without knowing he even existed if not for some fleeting glances whenever he visited the court of the Lord she served, the cathedral she lived at or the training grounds his beloved Paladin would train at along with her companions.

Raksha would look at him and ignore his presence as yet another curious, random person wanting to see the famous Holy Vengeance, whose sword slayed countless fiends from the Hells. Korrilla, sick of seeing the pathetic state of longing her boss was in, decided to prod him into doing something.

"Just go talk to her. You had a thousand mistresses" - the Warlock thought for a split second to her sister - "This... Raksha can't be too different from all the others, no?" "You are right, many were the lovers to entertain me in my boudoir"

Raphael's thoughtful eyes fixated on Raksha's reflection in the Scrying Eye and an almost paternal smile appeared on his lips: she was practicing the speech for her nomination as Holy Inquisitor that would have taken place that very night. He knew she wouldn't have stopped until it was perfect. A formal, high society event that would culminate in a ball was the crowning moment of a lifetime of sacrifices for her.

Korrilla didn't have a hard time figuring out why: personality wise, Raksha was incredibly similar to her master's younger self with her pompous, brash attitude - a pride not unwarranted, given her accomplishments.

"I guess it makes sense" the Warlock thought, shrugging. After all, that was the same man who would fuck an Incubus glamoured to look exactly like him so falling in love for someone who had a brain similar to his wasn't too far off.

"I'll have to ask you to keep an eye on the House for me tonight, Korrilla" - Raphael ran his hand through his hair in a nervous gesture - "I have a ball to attend to"

Sexuality Headcanon: Exclusively attracted to men. He prefers not to be labeled and isn't particularly comfortable with calling himself "gay", but he wouldn't reject the label as violently as Bro would. Kinky as all hell, but unlike Bro I never headcanon him as having an exclusive puppet fetish.

Gender Headcanon: Male. Another of the most masc characters in the comic, though his version of masculinity is markedly less toxic than Bro's. Again, I generally headcanon him as cis, though I appreciate trans headcanons as well.

A ship I have with said character: Dirk <3< any of his other splinters (though for Dirk/Hal there's some pale mixed in there too). Dirkuu. Dirk/Alpha Dave. Dirk/Dave. Dirk/Dave/Karkat. Dirkquius. I could keep going all day. I will happily ship Dirk with almost any dude.

A BROTP I have with said character: Yeah, so, remember how I said I ship Bro<>Handmaid? I also love Dirk<>Damara. I think they could get along terrifyingly well.

Gender Headcanon: Male. Extremely masc. Deliberately invokes toxic masculinity to make himself into a more hateable villain. Deliberately adopts traits from Bro, specifically, whom he sees as having the callous attitude he's going to need in order to play the bad guy.

A ship I have with said character: John. What Ult Dirk really needs is someone who 1) is willing to call him out on his bullshit, and 2) is deeply unimpressed with him. John fits the bill. But I also adore Ult Dirk's obsessions with Jake and Dave... god, Ult Dirk is so good for some really unhealthy, obsessive relationships.

A BROTP I have with said character: Terezi. See again: Ult Dirk needs people around who will call him on his shit.

A NOTP I have with said character: Most female characters except Rosebot, I guess, though I'm not entirely opposed. I'll read fics with these pairings if they have an interesting premise.

A random headcanon: He ran an underground puppet black market on Earth C and once talked Jane into doing a collab and releasing some Crockercorp-branded smuppets.

General Opinion over said character: Yeah, so, Ultimate Dirk is the actual reason I'm obsessed with Dirk. The question of why Dirk would choose this path is so fascinating to me, because although I definitely don't think this is the only way Dirk's character could have evolved, I do think it's plausible. My greatest frustration in this fandom is that fuck-all no one understands Ultimate Dirk except me. I understand

meulins sort of interesting to me because she's a non-purple blooded non-religious coded religious troll. and by non religious coded i mean, unlike porrim and kankri who i'd argue are religious-coded but not religious themselves, meulin has very little connection to the disciple at all because of kurloz. she was quite literally yanked away from her rightful group and into a whole different religion, one that isn't even exactly like..... open to other bloods? i think thats super interesting. i also think thats why meenah says her sympathies have been "swayed" towards kurloz's religion specifically because she can't exactly BE a juggalo, she's an oliveblood, but she's as close to being a member as someone can be without being purple.

the interesting part for me though is that religion is, essentially, divided into two sections on beforus and alternia. those who are the leaders (signless, kankri, karkat, lowbloods in general like the captors and nitrams) and those who follow (ghb, kurloz, damara, handmaid, dualscar, cronus, serkets) and obviously that isn't treated as religion on alternia because alternia is somewhat of a pseudo-areligious state with the exclusion of purples, which are more akin to a cult than an actual official religion like christianity. and if that isn't the fucking truth man poor underpriveleged people make religion and uppercrust fuckingfeeds off of it. anyways meulin is one of the first trolls i can think of who is inarguably "religious" in some way that isn't immediately connected to the signless, which i don't really regard as a religion but a "religion coded myth" as theres no worshiping practices towards the signless. he's more like a revolutionary myth than a jesus figure. no offense to jesus

Not to homestuck post in 2023 but it really is insane how hard it fell off a cliff after act 5. Act 6 sucks so much ass I keep finding new things to hate about it.

All these plot lines tied up perfectly only to ditch the mechanics of the premise to instead focus on giving every character the worst arc possible.

All the characters people cared about doing absolutely nothing while being miserable and completely irrelevant so that we can focus on new characters who are bland or unlikable (except maybe roxy and Callie), most of whom are straight up caricatures (including the literal racist caricature Damara).

And then after watching these dogshit character arcs and story happen it’s all undone anyway so it doesn’t even matter. Most of the story doesn’t matter and all the good characters spent years in time prison for nothing. Especially vriska who ended up having no character development at all and everything interesting thing about her was erased. One of the most popular characters!

And then after the retcon the story is still unsatisfying 😭 tbf I’m not even sure how it could have been saved at that point.

Not that the comic was clean before but this is also when Hussie’s racism really became apparent between Damara, HIC, and the whole Caucasian thing.

And then the epilogues… how did they get published because whoever betad those should have killed him on the spot

Witches are incredibly potent. They can see their aspect everywhere around them, can draw it in, can touch the entire range of its domain. A witch is cloaked in their aspect.

But here is the caveat. Unlike Heirs and Maids and some others who sort of reach inside and unearth their aspect, Witches stand solidly separate from theirs. It is similar to the relationship between a sponsor and a warlock, and for the mastery of their aspect, they are gonna pay. Arguably a Witch has a quietly antagonistic relationship with their aspect. The rules of the universe are immutable to Jade and lead to her isolation and trauma. Damara is lousy with Time and her long, long, long life is horrific. Feferi's position as royalty has her marked for death from the moment she's hatched and its arguably what leads to her death.

A Witch gets all the power and all the cost to use it. They are casting from HP all the time. But the spells are so fucking useful! And even if they try to sit on their hands and try not to use them, the aspect is not kinder. It will not spare them, there is no Denying the Call. What Witches need, more than anything, is support. After all, they're the high-damage DPS!

The Witch's greatest strength is resilience, as they are just better at struggling through to the other side after so much practice.

The Witch's greatest weakness is trouble forging meaningful connections because they believe knowing them must surely be a burden. Knock that off!

Alpha Polytrolls

Unlike its beta equivalent, there are no sexuality conflicts here. Everyone is dating everyone. No exceptions.

It took Kankri far too long to realize this meant he wasn't celibate anymore.

Latula was the one who got the idea to help Damara and Rufioh make up, even dragging everyone else into helping her stage an intervention. She'll be damned if any of her partners aren't getting along.

Meulin is constantly smug about all her otps being canon. She's the best shipper in the world and she knows it.

Whenever Kankri gets on a roll, his current partner cuts him off with a kiss. He blushes snd keeps trying to stammer out a rebuttal, but that just gets him more kisses. Pretty soon, his bright red and trying to disappear into his sweater to avoid looking his smug partner in the eye.

Kurloz's powers allow him to spend time with any and all of his partners at any time. He might not physically be there, but with psychic powers, he might as well be.

Cronus still hits on everyone like a sleazy pick up artist, despite the fact they're already dating. It's just tradition at this point.

Meenah aggressively spoils all of her partners. No one is going to date her and not have a massive castle made mostly of gold.

Mituna kicks everyone's ass in video games and will bring this up every time he wants to rib one of his partners.

Kurloz sometimes leaves the hive without facepaint on, solely to see how long it takes for his partners to start blushing like mad. Porrim usually lasts the longest, natural flirt that she is.

Aranea will happily pay you to listen to her talk about everyone's dating history.

The only time Horus swore was when he first saw Kurloz without face paint. Now everyone's competing to get him to say "hot damn" again.

No one gets her partners to blush faster than Porrim. No one.

Kurloz habitually distracts his partners with certain thoughts while they're trying to do something else. It's how he sometimes manages to beat Mituna at video games.

They all share clothes so often they sometimes forget what belongs to who.

Rufioh is a 5. Very average. Sweet, awkward, very weird relationship and self-steem issues going on. It all balances out on just... Eh.

Mituna fluctuates between a 1 and a 7-8. If you catch him in the right mood he's fluffy and nice. But otherwise not so much.

Kankri is a 1. Do not. Hug Kankri. He WILL lecture you about personal boundaries and somehow imply that your hugging skills leave a lot to be desired while tooting his own horn.

Meulin. 10. Just. 10. Fluffy soft catgirl. If you can handle the ear-piercing screeches, she's just. Great.

Porrim is a 10, too, but in a different way. She will make you feel things. Probably gently caress your face while you pull back and away from her.

Latula is a 6. Strong, firm, nice hugs. Bit TOO strong for comfort though.

Aranea is a 8. She's nice! It's also a known way to get her to stop talking for a bit, if you're getting tired of overly-long lore dumps!

Horuss is a 2. Unlike Equius, your bones won't break. Like Equius, you're now soaked.

Kurloz is... He's probably fine hugging? He also probably will slip something in your pocket while you get close, that will eventually lead to a chain reaction that helps in the coming of Lord English? Physically a 6-7. Causally a 1.

Cronus and Mituna are probably the most unimportant dancestors within the useless dancestors. At least you got shit like Meulin being mind controlled by Kurloz, Horuss x Rufioh x Damara having their love triangle drama, & Latula, Kankri, and Porrim are on their own delusions for the living trolls to see and reflect on who they are (Kanaya, Terezi, and Karkat). But there is absolutely nothing for Cronus and Mituna. Even if Mituna would be Latula's girlfriend, there is nothing much deep about their relationship besides being a mirror to how close Sollux and Terezi were as friends. Even then, that side is barely explored as Sollux almost never sees Terezi by Act 6.

Damara: Much like Rufioh, she thinks it's trash. But again like Rufioh, she can't seem to quit it. It's one of the few things she enjoys without all the sburb baggage so she goes back to it every now and again when she's feeling especially despondent.

Rufioh: He never particularly cared for it, despite being a trashy romance character himself. He doesn't think it's bad or anything it's just not his cup of tea and he's cool with leaving it at that

Mituna: I feel like he just kinda hated it when he was fully cognizant, like he would make snide remarks about it on the side but mostly just leave that pile of nope alone. But after he busted his brain (and lost any semblance of impulse control) he will go apeshit at the drop of a hat when he hears it, and sometimes when he doesn't. If he really doesn't like something he will find a way to bring it into the conversation so he can crudely insult two things at once.

Kankri. Not in the slightest, nor does he really care about it one way or the other, but he really plays up how "pr96lematic" (god I hate that word, it's a non-descriptor) it is just so he can look woke. He'd like to stop, he really would, but he's entrenched himself too deep at this point and there's no going back now. He's going down with his ship and ego in flames

Meulin: Yes. She adores this book, cover to cover. She's read it multiple times, seen the films over and over, owns the collectors editions, even has a cosplay at the ready. Not that slapping on a khaki skirt and some white makeup is hard, but it's still there. She is a die-hard fangirl and she is in the team Jacob camp for life. She thinks Ed Wood is neat but Jacob is just a heartthrob

Porrim. No, she thinks it's reductive and pedantic and portrays ladies as flighty broads who can't do anything for themselves. While she's all for woman authors and sordid romances, this is definitely one author she wishes didn't take off

Latula: Between you and me, I think Latula is the biggest nerd of the bunch who plays up her "r4d g1rl cooln3ss" factor because she's really insecure over a lot. I also think she's into troll period dramas, which is just Star Trek but Gray, and b-list romances which includes Twilight as The B-List Romance. She reads this every now and again, and like most pleasures for her, it's a guilty one. She loves it dearly but knows it's cringe and that is the last thing she wants to be seen as.

Aranea: Being the shy, nervous, nerdy bookworm she is, you would assume that she's gung-ho about Twilight, but I would say otherwise. She may be a shy, nervous, nerdy bookworm who fell in love with her alt-self for how badass she is/was/would be, but she is still an academic and after reading Twilight for more than ten minutes she finds the plot, writing, and dialogue insulting. While Mindfang may be the stuff of legends, this is not that. It's a dusty paperweight with pages

Horuss: I'm honestly torn here, because like all Zahhak's, he's a huge hornball. But even by Zahhak standards, he's curmudgeonly. Like, I think that's a thing that people forget. His more positive attitude was something he only started doing recently at the behest of his new moirial Meulin, and that's because he saw how happy his ancestor was with Nepeta and wanted some of that for himself. Otherwise he's as sour as they come. I'm getting off track. I think, given how recent a development his willingness to try an attitude shift was and that's come with mixed results, I don't think he's truly pulled his head out of his ass enough yet to give it an honest go, so I'm gonna say no he thinks Twilight is just trash that even he wouldn't indulge in

Kurloz: Ugggggghhghgghgghgh again with the clowns. Kurloz, Kurloz, ughghghhh I'm gonna say no because unlike Gamzee he's always been sober and he's pretty hardass about most things. He's not very self indulgent so I can't see him doing that at all.

Cronus: Are you kidding? Yes this human loving weirdo loves all things human, especially their trash. You could call him the garbage man with how much trash he's picked up. If homestuck were written early you can bet your life and come out unscathed on him being a die-hard Twilight fan

Meenah: Like Cronus, her tastes can get pretty trashy. But unlike Cronus she needs a little bling or ka-ching to catch her interest. What I'm saying is it's not flashy or packs enough punch for her to look at it for more than five seconds before moving on.

Selfish Vs Unselfish

Jesus. Yeah I have nothing to comment here, I’m going to read this later when I haven’t just woken up.

You know the drill. Put it under ‘Read More’. A matter of perspective it can be, but there can be an objective truth to sort that out. Let me e x p a n d on this matter using Homestuck and some philosophy. And for those who missed the last ask on Active/Passive divide, please do remember that these labels are on a continuum, not strictly boxed categories. “UNSELFISH” or UNSELFISH - The passive classes lean more to this. How? By being group-oriented. Like support classes in RPGs, their asset comes mainly from a drive to benefit others. Roxy is one of the best examples of this. While she was passive-aggressive in her pursuit of romance, she is ultimately willing to put her self aside and bettering herself if that meant making sure the group stays together. She does this by, to quote Dirk, never turning the tables to make a talk about her when she knows her friend needs something.

She wants to be of use to her group. However, the downside to this is that, as passively Roxy can be, she often needs them as well.

How would you know if a class is truly passive when a character just been a really selfish a-hole through the story? It’s how they mainly rely on others as well. Let’s use Aranea as the main example of a selfish passive Sylph of Light that tries to emulate a Thief. Aranea says that Sylph is a healer type of class that involves boosting others, even excessively. However, while she claims that she merely wants to help and shepard the Alpha timeline by taking control of it, Meenah says otherwise. What Aranea has been doing is a self-aggrandizing act to get into the spotlight and not sit on the sidelines anymore, much like her fellow Serket. Like Kanaya, she is meddlesome. She asserts that what she does is for the good of all, even if that means doing something others would object to. They don’t want that. But, she does it anyway.

At first, she complies when the recipient refuses, but when it eventually comes to her ultimate takeover plan, everyone else comes second. She may believe that she’s just granting their wishes, but her underlying motive is ultimately selfish- albeit by excessively “helping” others for her own cause. Aranea failed to learn what Mindfang did:

“8ut as I sit here deciding what to do with the damna8le little sphere, I understand my error. It was not in failing to chart a course through future events to turn my fortune’s tide, even so many sweeps from now. It was in 8elieving the future was mind to know, and fortune mine to control.”

Now let’s use Rufioh and compare him to Roxy. Both of them are Rogues. Both of them are group-oriented characters that act selfishly from time-to-time. The difference is that Rufioh is more selfish. He’s extremely affable to the point of being a doormat to please others all while trying to be polite about romantic advances despite being a flirt himself. He’s reluctant to voice his own reason that he wants to leave his matespritship with Horuss. Sounds familiar? He’s the Jake of the love triangle. Rufioh cheated on Damara and never takes responsibility from it, focusing on Damara being a crazed scorned girl.

Passive players that fail to balance supporting others and fulfilling their own desires often end up being thrown in a loop. Forcing your solution solution on others for 'their own good’ is selfish. Your concern on how others perceive you may be sprouted from your own insecurity. Whenever you make a donation to the less fortunate, how can you be certain it’s not without the purpose of staving off guilt, doing it because it simply aligns with your moral code, or because it feels good?

AG: Was that selfish of me? I dunno.

It’s a gem to see volunteers whose instincts are to help people to make life more bearable, mind you. But they’re also doing that because they want to see them better and it’s often their own desire to do so and fulfill that dream.

ENLIGHTENED VS UNENLIGHTENED SELFISHNESS

-I’ve rambled on this a bit. Here’s a recap:

*Unenlightened Selfishness is… pretty much the archetypal self-centeredness that makes people jerks. It’s whenever you do something for yourself with little to no regard to other people’s desires. It’s the greedy shark hoarding all the treasure. It’s when you try to justify your actions with a perspective of “everyone else is selfish, so I’m entitled to be an asshole to everyone too”.

*Enlightened Selfishness or Enlightened Self-Interest is the opposite. It’s when you respect that everyone has their own wants and needs by compromising and coinciding them with your own. It’s like a deal. It’s the Golden Rule. You scratch my back, I scratch yours. It’s when you do things for other people for the good you’ll get from it, even when the payment is simple politeness and being generally nice. Society expects each individual to benefit the community in turn by working. We work with the expectation that others work for us. Unlike the first, this form of self-interest benefits both parties. Another term is Selfish Altruism.

We see an exercise of selfishness burning brightly through Vriska’s arc.

Vriska is accusing (Vriska) for being selfish despite being selfish herself. Remember her popular hero quote?

VRISKA: I only ever wanted to do the right thing no matter how it made people judge me, and I don’t need a magic ring to do that. VRISKA: You don’t have to 8e alive to make yourself relevant. VRISKA: And you don’t have to 8e a good person to 8e a hero. VRISKA: You just have to know who you are and stay true to that. VRISKA: So I’m going to keep fighting for people the only way I ever knew how.

And a few panels after that, she does this.

Sure, her resurrection got everyone’s attention, but also annoyance. A lot of their personal problems aren’t truly solved, just put on a temporary chokehold by someone with a stubborn, assertive personality. She’s taking charge so that her team won’t be in poor condition for the big fight, but also to, well, be in the spotlight. She doesn’t care how others think of her, she just wants to help… but also because it makes her important, even if that means overpowering her friends, including her moirail Terezi. Vriska’s the active counterpart to Roxy in both class and aspect. A positive part of this is that it’s easier for Vriska and other folks like her to be self-driven.

What am I getting at? It’s a matter of intention. Are they doing it to mainly benefit others? Or are they acting to benefit themselves? Even if it’s grey, there’s often a tint or shade that’s lighter or darker that makes someone lean somewhere. It doesn’t matter how they see themselves and how they perceive their own actions, it’s their motivation that defines the line. Accidents don’t count. It’s the will. Looking at one’s intention is a way to objectively sift through the blurriness of it their actions, even when said intention is subconscious. You can also simply take the Active/Passive divide on strictly class roles in terms of RPG abilities alone if you’re not keen on the personalities of the bunch.

Meulin leijon: shes similar to nepeta in the cuddle aspect, she loves to be the little spoon and likes to lay ontop of you like a cat.

Porrim maryam: She also loves the honeymoon cuddle position! she loves to be close with you and be able to see your face. she thinks you’re very attractive and loves to be able to lean in and kiss you.

Latula pyrope: she’s definitely the big spoon! she loves to hold onto you and thinks you’re super duper radical.

Aranea serket: she’s also a wild sleeper like vriska, she can and will accidentally push you off the bed, but unlike vriska she’s actually sorry about it. otherwise she likes to be back to back!

Horuss zahhak: he actually likes being the little spoon! he’s more afraid of hurting you than anything so he prefers to be the one being cuddled. he also likes it when he lays on you.

Kurloz makara: this absolute UNIT, this BEANPOLE, this TANK.. he loves it when you cuddle up to him or lay across him. or he can hold you in his arms and he’ll be content.

Cronus ampora: he is very touch starved because this motherfucker gets NO love. you’re his first matesprit so his first time cuddling is with you. he’s the big spoon and loves to hold you close, sometimes too close as if he’s afraid you’ll leave.
