I'm so sick of this fandom. Let people write whatever the fuck they want without throwing accusations. If you have a problem with it, go and write the fic you want. Contribute instead of complaining. We're not making any profit from fanfiction and it's not up to you to decide what I and other writers can and cannot write. If there's a lack of something, then try to resolve it by contributing instead of “forcing” other writers to do it for you. We're not machines. We're not here to create media for you to consume. It's not made for you but rather shared with you. Stop acting like you have a say in it. Don't start hating on fics if something happens and you don’t like it. It's not yours, it's ours. We're proud of it and that's all that matters. You don't have to read it— you're free to stop at any point. It's okay to not like something but it's not okay to hate on it just because it doesn't meet your expectations. It's free, stop complaining and find something else to read.

Also, stop dissecting and rating fics. It's not for you to pick apart and examine and it's so fucking disrespectful how it's become normal to share the fics you hate/dislike on social media. We are real people with real feelings. It doesn't matter that we shared it online— we do not have to accept it when people shit-talk our fics as if we won't see it because we do.

Oh, and while we're at it, learn how to use ao3. You can exclude ships and tags. It's not always that there are no fics— you just don't know how to use ao3 effectively.

it’s annoying to me as a Fanfic Elder that y’all don’t understand how consent works in regards to reading fanfic

last night I saw a fic that had EIGHT of my favorite tags included and a great summary BUT it also contained a tag for a topic that bothers me. I weighed the pros/cons and decided NOT to read the fic because the ONE tag I disliked was something that could trigger a panic attack if the scene went into any sort of detail - it wasn’t worth risking the eight good tags.

from the first moment I noticed the fic to the moment I decided not to read it, the entire experience was MY RESPONSIBILITY. the author tagged the fic correctly, I knew what my limits were, and I respected them.

if you find a fic with tags you don’t like, JUST DON’T READ IT 

don’t harass the author, don’t post a big whiny rant about it on Tumblr, just keep scrolling

that is your job as a reader.

A gentle song played on the organ, loud enough to echo through the water-filled cave but soft enough to preserve the delicate nature of the song.

The cave was decorated with golden accents and hundreds of candles, tho only a select few candles were lit. Just enough to illuminate the shimmering lake below.

Y/n slept in a shell shaped bed with a bird at the foot of it. A black mesh curtain hung over her, obscuring ber view from what lay ahead.

Y/n's eyes opened slowly as her mind registered the events that transpired. After a second her body jolted upright and she's aware of her surroundings.

The organ still played slowly as her chest heaved rapidly. She's quick to jump out of the bed, keeping from making too much noise.

After untangling herself from the black curtain she looks around unsure of where she was.

To her side was a tall, golden, candle stand that came up to her shoulders. She blew out the candles on top and then took hold of the stand as if it were a baseball bat.

Not realizing its weight, she lifted it with too much ease. Wax from the still hot candles, splashed onto her bare shoulders and onto the costume she still wore after the Opera.

Her breathing hitched and she clenches her teeth, keeping a painful yelp from escaping.

After the wax droplets cooled on her skin, her thoughts returned to the problem at hand.

With delicate dancer's feet, she walks across the path towards the direction of the music.

Making her way up some stairs she peeked over to see the organ, more importantly the man playing it. His hair in perfect shape and the same clothing, without the cloak.

As she walked, she passed scattered fabrics and sewing equipment. Materials matching her costume. One red thread in particular, stood out, not matching the color of the material.

Y/n glances down at the seam of the costume going up her torso, to see a rushed seam, threaded into her dress with the same red thread.

"He tailored it to fit me..?" she whispers as her brain worked out what happened.

She continues towards the organ, only to see her target had vanished.

"It was an urgent fix." he replies to her muttered observation.

She jumps at his voice, startled by how close he'd gotten without her noticing. Her stance turns defensive with her head low and shoulders braced.

"I needed the costume to fit you perfectly."

He stood in front of her, eyes focused on her movements.

She swings the candle stand and keeps distance between them.

How did he know her measurements? Unless he had some piece of her clothing.

"Stay back! Or I swear I'll hurt you!"

Phantom didn't react. Only watched her defensive stance. He knew she'd have questions. What he didn't expect was her hateful gaze.

"Where are we? Why did you bring me here?" she yells as her eyes make quick glances for an exit.

She spots a large open gate on the other side of the water, but that observation took her attention off the Phantom.

He quickly grabs the candle stand making her gasp from fright.

"We're safe. That's all that matters." he says in a calm tone.

Not willing to tempt fate, she drops the candle stand and bolted.

Barefoot she runs down the stairs and straight into the knee deep water.

She trudged through the water as fast as she could, almost swimming. But Phantom was faster.

He pulled the lever down causing the drop gate to descend. Not fast, but fast enough for Y/n to miss her exit.

"NO!" She yells grabbing onto the iron bars that kept her from escape.

"Let me out!" she growls putting her back to the gate with one hand holding her dress up.

Phantom walked towards her, slow enough for her to know she could run if she needed to.

"If you go that way, all you'll find is rubble, and you'll get stuck in the Maze of hallways."

He makes it to right infront of her, before he stops looking down at her frightened face.

"Then I'll ask you again, Phantom!" her words hard and to the point.

"Where are we?" she barked.

Phantom calculated his response for a moment. Then he gave in and sighed in defeat. He knew what he had to do.

"I'll show you. On the condition, you listen to what I have to say, and at the very least, put on something warm."

His words caught Y/n off gaurd. Her face goes from pure anger, to softened confusion. He cared for her? Why?

She looked back at the long stretching hallway behind her, many different ways she could get lost and starve to death trying to find her way back out.

Without thinking, she bit onto her thumb nail. A stressed habit.

She looked back into his eyes. Those pleading eyes eyes that were begging for her to give him one chance.

This made a thought pop into her head. To 'Read the words that come from your partners eyes.' Something Erik said to do.

She looks directly at the man infront of her, finding the meaning behind his words. Her head slowly nods up and down, after a long pause of silence.

Phantom's gaze softened and his lips almost turned to a smile. He turned away from her and trudged through the water back to the stairs.

A little stumble made him suddenly stop and wince, grabbing his leg.

Y/n's subconscious reaction was to jump forward and help. But then she remembered who she was with and quickly retracted her hand.

Instead, she opted to only ask. "Are you alright?"

Phantom steadied himself with a deep breath, then continued walking.

"Just an old wound, my dear."

Another thought pops into Y/n's head. Or rather, a twinge of familiarity. But she couldn't place it. His worded mannerisms, movements. Simply the way he walked? It was so familiar.

Shaking the thought off, she walks back to solid ground where phantom gave her some clothes of his.

She wore a white shirt and black trousers along with a thick heavy coat to keep warm. A familiar smell came from them, mixed in with the dust accumulated over some time. But again, she couldn't place it.

After she was semi-fitted for the cold Paris air. Phantom lead her through many halls, twisted paths and up a large almost infinite staircase.

Slowly, the walls turned to greyed lime stone and extravagant statues came to view. Y/n's heart burned with denial watching the familiar red velvet seats come to view.

A fallen chandelier in the center of the large room, and ashes painted over any and all nearby objects. Heavy statues on the verge of giving way and debris risking a dangerous fall. They stood on the stage looking over a burnt Palais Garnier.

Her hands clasped over her mouth, and her heartache turned to long awaited tears. Her home, reduced to debris and ashes. Doomed never to shine with golden musical theater, again. Memories burnt to nothing.

She sobs into her hands and finally her knees buckle in on themselves.

Erik stood behind her. All he wanted was to hold her close, hold her until her tears ran dry and her sadness faded, never to return.

"W-why did you bring me here!? To see what your distraction caused! Does seeing me cry bring you joy?"

Her breathing rapid once again and she clenched onto the cloak. Panic, Stress, anxiety! All of the sudden, her trauma came flooding back.

Triggers all around her. The burnt beam's on the stage. The crushed glass pieces of the chandelier. Even the thought of going backstage to their rooms made her shudder.

This is where she spent days training with her father, where he spent years slamming her child body into walls if she danced incorrectly.

This is where she, Christine, Meg, as young girls, snuck out to watch the rich ladies in sparkling dresses come in, to see the adult performers.

All because one person couldn't wait! One person couldn't let go of a girl he loved and didn't love him in return. A deformed face, a beautiful singing voice, experienced in all things theater!

She stood up suddenly and spun around to look at him. Her glittering tears flying through the air.

Her thoughts crashed together and aimed to one person.

"Why ERIK! Why!"

Her words echoed powerfully through the Opera house. His name repeating over and over until they faded out.

At first, Y/n was taken aback at her own words. An undermined thought she'd never thought to explore or question. But it all lined up too perfectly.

Perhaps she knew from the start. When she pulled him from the fire. When he avoided the question of his past. Violent tendencies. His love for Christine. But in Y/n's love for all things, how could she just leave him.

Phantom only watched her, both of their hearts pounding in sync. His head drops down, not looking at her.

"Y/n.." he barely whispers.

"Don't! Don't say anything!" she hushed him immediately. Making everything silent so she could hear her own speeding thoughts.

She walks closer to him. A creaking from her footsteps on stage, and hesitation in her movements.

Suddenly she was face to face with him, the monster? The man she grew to love?

Her hands move to his and mask. A slowly lift from the bottom. Time moved slow, as the air shifted. Finally, Erik appears before her again.

"Look at me Erik." her voice cracks at her demand.

Erik is slowly to meet her eyes. His guilt burnt so bright. But his need for her forgiveness simmered in a sliver of tears.

Y/n was angry, so incredibly angry. The man infront of her was both a deceiver, and a liar! But he was also her roommate, her colleague, her love.

" 'Read the words that come from your partners eyes', that's what you told me, remember?" She repeats a bit of advice she got from none other than Erik.

She takes his jaw, nor harshly, but enough to emphasize her anger.

"So read my eyes now."

Erik Stood strong for a moment, looking at her. Reading her every emotion and thought with clear understanding. Wet eyes, opposing to the fire burning within them.

"You want an explanation." he says plainly, his large cloak waving heavily in the wind behind him, engulfing her.

"If I'd told you, the day of the fire. You'd have reacted worse than you are now. I was so very ready to leave the inn that night. Prepared to leave everything and go search for my angel of music."

He finally touches her cheek. A black leather glove brushing over her now frosted tears.

"Then my savior stood at the windowsill. Crying for a love who should've been in my place. And I couldn't leave."

He chuckles deeply as his other hand joins the one on her cheek.

"If you know how easily you can command me, just by looking at me with those tearful eyes, I'd be at your mercy. An eternal slave."

He held her face delicately, making sure her attention was on nothing but him. A little furious hamster in the palms of his hands.

"Christine was my angel of music. But you're the goddess of every beat from my heart."

A slow kiss onto her head as he beacons her ever closer with the smooth voice she'd become addicted to.

"You've captured my soul, my darling Y/n. And you've enslaved me to your every tear. I love you."

He confesses in a small ice covered whisper.

She knew, more than anything she couldn't forgive him so easily. She stood there, holding that haunting mask in her hand, knowing how much pain and desire such a mask bought.

His hands on her cheeks, carefully holding her like the most precious rose.

She felt her lip quiver before quickly biting down on it, trying to keep her heart contained for a little longer.

"And if I don't love you? If I still love Aloïs?" she lied though her teeth. Selfishly testing his answer. Searching for any reason to leave her yearning heart behind in the snow.

"Then I'll simply have to use every ounce of my power to convince you to spend an eternity of this, before your eyes. A haunted face that holds horror, and a soul where distortion lies."

All she needed to hear was that. That he'd fight for her and not simply let her go again. She clenched her teeth, there was one last thing she had to be sure of.

"And.. Christine?"

Erik paused for another second, carefully lifting his hands away to scuffle in his pocket. Two rings. Aloïs's and Christine's layed in his palm.

As if it was the easiest decision he made, he simply twisted his wrist diagonally. Dropping the two jewels into the dust and snow.

"She may have had my heart once. But you carry it now."

Y/n glanced down at the rings. Perhaps selfishly, she laughed, and quickly pushed her palm over her eyes, wiping the tears off her eyelashes.

"You're such a fool, such a horrid lier, quick to anger, quick to fight! Quick to capture my heart."

She took a small breath, not being able to stop the smile that forced itself onto her lips.

"I love you too."

Days ago I saw an antiproshipper post saying proshippers arguments and criticizing us, so now it's time to make a similar post but from proshippers' point of view criticizing antishippers' mentality. This would be long so prepare yourselves.

"Proshippers are pedophiles"

Of all the things antishippers say, this is the one that annoys me more. Because no. Proshippers aren't pedophiles. Proshippers are people who believe in not harassing people for a ship, people who believe that liking some fictional content doesn't determine your irl morals. That's what proship means. Not whatever definition antishippers invented to pretend they're the good ones.

"You can consume media with murder and cannibalism because they aren't romanticized"

In what world you live in?? There are a lot of media that romanticize murder or at least make it seem less problematic than it is irl. And people who watch that media suddenly starts killing everyone around them? NO. So why liking incest ships/age gap ships would make you an incestuous person or a pedophile??

"If you aren't a pedophile or like incest, then why do you write about it? Why do you write about two siblings having sex if you don't want to fuck your sibling?"

If George Lucas doesn't support genocide, then why he made a movie with the Empire blowing up a planet? If [X] famous writer doesn't support [X] then why did he write about it? Seriously, man, you need help if you think that writing about [X] thing makes you like it irl or makes you want to do it irl. There are a lot of writers that included some "problematic" things in fiction, and no matter how they portrayed those things in their book/show/movie it isn't a reflection of their morals.

"Proshippers always criticize antishippers for not liking their incest/age gap/pedo fic"

Actually, no. We don't criticize antishippers for not liking some fics or some fanarts. We criticize you because you tell us we are groomers/pedophiles without knowing us irl. We criticize you because you're asuming something about us that isn't true. You don't like an incest/age gap/minor x adult ship? Then block the content and go on with your life. No one is forcing you to like it. No one is forcing you to read fics about that ship, to watch fanart of that ship, or to like that ship. The only thing we want is for you to be anti-harassment and stop calling us things we aren't.

"Stop normalizing/romanticizing child x adult/incest ships"

Then stop normalizing toxic yaoi ships. Then stop normalizing toxic yuri ships. Then stop normalizing murder. Then stop normalizing cannibalism. Then stop normalizing loving villains. If you don't want something that is bad in real life romanticized in fiction then you don't want anything that is bad in real life romanticized in fiction. And if you accept some things being romanticized and some things not being romanticized, then you're an hypocrite, because a bad action is a bad action, no matter what it is. You don't want some ships being """normalized"""? Then don't normalize characters being tortured / murder / cannibalism / some toxic ships.

"You should be raped/tortured and die/kill yourself for liking this ship"

Yeah, because liking a fictional ship with fictional characters obviously makes you deserve being tortured. Because obviously what proshippers do with FICTIONAL characters is more important than what happens to REAL people. You are telling a REAL person to die/kill themselves for a fucking FICTIONAL SHIP and you are the good one in this story?

"You need therapy for liking this ship"

Proshippers would need therapy if they were pedophiles. But I have news for you. Proshippers. doesn't. mean. pedophiles. They just like certain ships you find disgusting. I repeat it: Ships. S-H-I-P-S. Of fictional characters. So unless they're REAL pedophiles, they don't need therapy. Besides, having in mind that you harass proshippers and tell them to kill themselves for a fictional SHIP, I think you are the only one who needs therapy.

"Children could see this ship and think it's okay"

There are a LOT of media children can't see because they are not old enough to see it. And this works exactly the same way. If they aren't old enough to difference reality from fiction, if they aren't old enough to think "this is bad irl and I'm not gonna do it" then WHY are they seeing content NOT made for them??? "Children could see [X] and think it's okay" Then why someone isn't controlling what they see on the internet or telling them that whatever they saw they can't do i irl???

"Victims of pedophilia/abuse don't deserve someone romanticizing their trauma".

First, who says proshippers are romanticizing their trauma? It's just a ship, they're not romanticizing anyone's trauma (if anything, they would be romanticizing whatever happens to the character, not what happened to a real person). And second, you're seriously telling me that some victims don't deserve people romanticizing their trauma but some victims deserve to be told "you deserved your trauma, you deserve to be raped, you deserved to be abused"? Don't pretend you care about victims. You only care about victims who cope the way you want them to.

"If you don't want to be harrassed then stop posting your weird fics/fanarts"

I said it once, but you know that's the same argument homophobes/transphobes use? "If you don't want to be hated or bullied for being gay/trans, don't be gay/trans" "If you don't want to be bullied then don't be a freak". You will probably say "but it's not the same because I'm not homophobe/transphobe", and yet, you have the same purity mentality they have but with another topic.

"Groomers could use some proships to groom children"

Groomers can (and will) use ANYTHING to groom children if they want to groom them. Don't act as if proshipping was the only way children can be groomed. There are a lot of things groomers could use to groom children and proshipping isn't the only one.

"Proshippers don't care about the pedophiles in their fandom"

A LOT of us have Pedos DNI in our bios (or said in other posts/comments that we don't support real pedophilia) so your argument is stupid. And you're acting as if pedophiles could only be in the proship fandom. PEDOPHILES CAN BE EVERYWHERE. In the proship fandom, in the antiship fandom, in WHATEVER fandom you think about. For the last time, Proship Fandom DOESN'T mean Pedophile Fandom. You can find good and bad people everywhere, and "proshipper" isn't "bad and pedophile" while "antishipper" is "good and non-pedophile".

"Proshippers are just porn addicts"

As I said it before: there are ASEXUAL proshippers. And not everyone is THAT interested in fics with sex, you know? There are proshippers who don't like fics with sex, and I'M MYSELF AN EXAMPLE OF THAT. I always search for General or Teen and Up Audiences, not Mature or Explicit fics in AO3, you big idiot. So stop asuming all proshippers want to """sexualize""" minor characters or want them to have sex with adults.

"Proshipper with trauma shouldn't post their fics in the Internet"

If you don't want proshippers to post the fics they want, then no one should be allowed to post the fics they want. I myself don't like age regression ships, so stop posting fics about it. I myself don't like main characters being tortured, so stop posting fics about it. I myself don't like fics with killing on them, so stop posting fics about it. You don't like that idea, huh? Then shut the fuck up and understand already that it's possible to find in Internet fictional content you find disgusting. And unless there's a REAL child getting hurt, just block the content as I do with the tropes I hate.

It can affect reality, but only if you let it affect reality. You see incest in some shows? You see murder in some shows? You see cannibalism in some shows? Then what you do after seeing those shows it's up to YOU, because YOU are the one who needs to think "no matter how this is portrayed, this is disgusting in reality and I will never do this to anyone". If you decide to do what you saw in a show... Then it's a YOU problem, not the media's problem. You think Game of Thrones fans suddenly started to have sex with their family members because of Game of Thrones' representation of incest? Fucking no, because they know Game of Thrones is fiction AND real life is real life and they're NOT the same thing.

whew...... least favorite ships..... now thats a bold question HAH and i may have some. ah. Bold answers hah.

im generally pretty open to most ships, its just a matter of like. either i already liked the ship / was really into the ship or im more neutral about it and you just gotta convince me why i should at least give it a shot or be like "this could be good in certain circumstances". i dont usually care if a ship is toxic or "problematic" per say bc 1. this is rezero and sooo so many ships in this show arent 100% healthy lbr and 2. i will like a ship if its like. complex, and if theres problematic stuff, then its done for a reason - like it's not just there willy nilly. but thats just my personal feelings on it yep!! :o fiction is different from real life and all that.

that being said like. you know, kinda like you said - the obvious answers would be like subaru x any minors and just any sort of incest ships bc like. i do not see the point of it. that and you know, like a lot of people, i tend to avoid these sorts of ships with 99.999% of fandoms im in. i aint here for incest or shipping adults with minors. and i know theres like fandoms like game of thrones where this sort of thing IS relevant in the story, but with rezero - like it just is not relevant here and adds nothing unless youre into that. i do get that fictional stuff is different from real life and its not necessarily an indication of someone's character. i also definitely know this bc ive cowritten a gluttony if selfcest fic for this fandom as a very extreme crack treated seriously story hahh. but yeah like. ships between family and adult x minor are Not For Me in this fandom. i dont feel like it adds anything to the story and its also like Really out of character.

granted, i cant really say much on that bc ive written and posted selfcest for this fandom but like. in my defense, i did way too much research for that fic (..............i researched a lot of psychology stuff) and also gluttonybaru is Canonically Not Normal about subaru. the more you think about gluttonybaru the worse he gets HAH. like. dude has canonically kissed subaru via emilia's book of the dead....................

but obviously ofc i do not condone any of this ^^^^ in real life.

anyway on a lighter note!! im not a huge fan of most ships between subaru and *insert a female side character here*. like im not a big fan of like. subaru x anastasia, subaru x priscilla, subaru x elsa, subaru x yorna, subaru x pandora, like... the list can get kinda long bc people in this fandom in certain english spaces like to ship him with like any girl ever, it feels like sometimes. it gets to the point where sometimes i feel like subaru is just the self-insert to be shipped with women that people have the hots for.

like with most content about these sorts of ships, its hard for me to see much point to it - and there IS potential there. there is almost always potential in so many different tropes and ships, and theres some cool fanart in this fandom with these ships!! but you know, i hear about people suggesting ideas with these ships or writing fic about these ships and its just not my cup of tea bc it really sacrifices the characterization of all these women. and elsa is like already sexualized enough okay and its almost never nuanced and taking into account her backstory :( like i could be convinced to ship these ships with like idk 20k to 200k words of relationship and character development, but as it stands i personally really dont like them hah ;-;;; and also priscilla is clearly more into women okay (she canonically talks about how men are only allowed to fantasize about her and nothing more or she'll cut off their heads!!) and anastasia seems more into like julius and priscilla so like. HAH.

subaru x crusch is not something im a big fan of but im pretty open to it hah, i just havent seen much fancontent about them that really piques my interest :,)

anyway i also just. dont like the idea of taking a gay subaru ship and genderbending only one of them due to homophobia. and ill emphasize and underline that last part - due to homophobia - bc ive seen really good genderbend subaru content in this fandom where subarus afab and shipped with like julius or reinhard or something and there was clear effort and passion put into it!! and i do think its interesting thinking about how genderbend aus would affect this sort of thing for sure <3 i really really enjoy seeing the well made genderbend aus in this fandom!!

but i see other people suggesting fic ideas or making fics sometimes where its like fem subaru x male side character or like now-fem side character x subaru but it like its only clearly done bc some people just cant ship a gay ship, they gotta make it straight and then not put effort into thinking how this would change more things. and the female character in the duo now is Especially terribly out of character :(( the homophobia is just so so irritating to me. i go on the fic reddit thread sometimes and i see stuff like. i think once i saw a thread about someone requesting ottosuba and someone else immediately went "oh, with femotto right!!" like. ...... please. they are a gay ship :,,,))))))) let them be gay Sometimes at least!! maybe we can genderbend both of them sometimes??? :,)))

If you've been following me for more than five minutes, you'll know most of this already, but since there are some new folks, let me introduce myself and what you will/will not find here.

I'm a big (probably an understatement) Hudson & Rex fan. Specifically, I'm a huge Sarah Truong fan and probably one of the OG Charah shippers, but I love all of it. The cast, the scenery, the stories. That being said: I am critical of shit the show does that I dislike, or (more often than not) things that I find particularly problematic. I firmly believe in being appropriately critical of the media I consume (h/t to @farfarawaygirl for the creation of my absolute favourite tag), and it's not always going to be sunshine and roses here. I don't do toxic positivity. If you're looking for "OMG Charah are forever perfection and these characters can do no wrong ever," look elsewhere. I don't do character hero worship. Characters have flaws. They'd be boring AF if they didn't. For example, if you were here for my H&R season 4 journey, which also included a bit of a mental breakdown, you know I will just as easily criticise my faves when they're being...not great...in the same breath as I will gush about how much I love them. I try to keep it real.

Occasionally I reblog stuff from other fandoms, but I have a tendency not to use tags for ships/fandoms that get...shall we say, a little *heated* from time to time (IYKYK.)

I'm "fandom old." AKA I was probably reading/writing fic before many of you were born. Why is this relevant? Because I'm not an "I write fic for engagement and kudos and whatnot" person, I'm more "I write fic because I enjoy exploring characters, and sometimes I'll share it on AO3." Basically: I'm probably way too old for this site, and I'm definitely too old to care about things like clout, or being "fandom famous" or infamous, or whatever the kids are into these days. I write because I want to. I don't engage with "you must interact with creations in this specific way or else you suck" takes. I get that there are people who take that stuff very seriously, and that's cool, you do you.

I write smut. If you can't deal with that, don't read it. I'm not going to apologize for including sex scenes in many of my fics. Tags and ratings exist for a reason, and I will always use them appropriately to ensure readers know what they're getting into.

If you know who I am on other social media, no you don't. Seriously. I keep my fandom life separate from my real life for a reason. Please respect that.

I love engaging in lively debate. I don't block often (unless you're a pornbot, which, if so, GO AWAY.) If I do, it's to protect my peace. If you block me, I assume it's for the same reason, and wish you well, or whatever.

5: first headcanon that pops into my head He first took up training to become a bard because he wanted an excuse to get out of doing drills - it was kind of a whim, not something he was taking seriously. But after only one lesson, he realized this was genuinely something he wanted to pursue, and he had a knack for it, which came as much as a surprise to Guydelot himself as it did to anyone else.

6: favorite line from this character "Your music is bad and you should feel bad!" is a strong contender.

7: one way in which I relate to this character We both love Sanson Smyth more than breathing No, maybe it's in that we're both wordsmiths of a sort, but fail at communicating how we feel.

well. ai art is stolen art. it gets its material online, that is fics that were made by other people, and it just mixes it together to make a new fic. its machine art. as contrary to a real person spending their time writing something their passionate about. i agree that people can be passionate about strange and problematic things but i do think ao3 should ban or not accept ai fics as that is stolen content basically. and i think REAL PEOPLE should continue writing what they want. that's my take on it

all fanfic is "stolen art" unless what it's writing fanfic about was in the public domain. most fanfic is about intellectual property which the author has no legal right to use, therefore it is also stolen.

ai does not have to train on other people's material. you could train an ai fic generator on your own manually written fanfiction, or train it on your own original fiction which is literally legally your intellectual property.

but suppose you did train ai on other people's fics without their consent. firstly fanfiction is not copyrighted; if it were, that would be illegal/infringement of the ip rights of the source media. you, legally, have no right to say what other people do with your fanfic. but let's suppose we can deem using some other non-legalist framework that the training material was "stolen"; okay, so why do we take more seriously the stealing done by ai generated fanfic, more so than the stealing done by manually written fanfic? if you write fanfic then you are stealing another author's characters and possibly their worldbuilding and plot too depending on whether it's canon-compliant, canon-divergent, or complete au. some fanfics have complete scenes lifted from the original media, and simply rewrite the prose—but all the dialogue and actions are copied exactly. is that not stealing? did you get permission from the author?

i also don't think that the amount of "effort" put into art makes it more or less genuine. i mean, firstly, suppose there was an ai generated fic that took someone an equal amount of "effort" (assume that "effort" can be objectively quantified; it cannot, but your argument hinges upon that assumption too so we will work on the same assumption) as a manually written fic. maybe you spent a long time setting up the ai and finding appropriate training material for it. or maybe you whipped together a fic super quickly on a whim. or both. either way the author spent the same amount of effort on both the ai generated fic and the manually written fic and put the same amount of "passion" [also cannot be objectively quantified but assume it can, again based on your own argument] into them. do you see these two fics as equally valid works of art? if not, why not? because then that means you think that something other than quantified "effort" or "passion" determines the validity of the art.

finally—what ideological implications does conflating "good art" with "effort" have? what movements and politics are associated with this sort of thinking? what sort of movements and politics have been opposed to "low-effort" or "easy" art? why do you think that is? if you see yourself as ideologically opposed to these movements and politics—how is your opposition to "low-effort"/"easy" art different?

Some background for Keegan, Alix, and Jayden

I know I've hinted at some of the struggles that Alix, Keegan, and Jayden face, but I want to explain a bit more about how this impacts them today, especially with the last fic I posted, I think this background info is helpful.

Basically, they all had crappy childhoods, but for different reasons, and it impacts them differently now.

Jayden struggled a lot with anxiety, especially in high school. There was a lot of pressure on him, both from himself and others. Alix and Keegan both were struggling a lot in high school, and Jayden needed to support them both, on top of coming to terms with his gay-ness, and everything else that comes with high school. There was some friendship drama that stressed him out as well. Charlie joined their family before high school, but it took awhile for her to settle in with them, and Jayden found it challenging for awhile. Honestly though, he probably had it best. He didn't get a ton of support for his mental health though, and a lot of the coping strategies he has are self-taught. He's gotten much better at managing his anxiety, and it doesn't have a huge impact on his day-to-day life, but it definitely crops up in high-stress times, and occasionally in panic attacks.

Keegan feels the impacts of his childhood trauma every day. Keegan's mom married Paul when he was 10, and for a while he seemed like a good dad. Eventually he started being more violent, initially as a form as punishment or a way to vent, but by the time he's 15, the abuse is a daily occurrence. During high school, he got very jumpy and scared, didn't trust anyone, and struggled with any form of physical touch. It took Alix and Jayden a long time to learn the extent of the abuse, and even longer for Keegan to start prioritizing his own safety. He leaves the house as soon as he can, leaving behind his mother, and his step-brother. Alix and Jayden have been his safe people forever, so he has very few reservations when it comes to touch with them, however they have years of history to support that. He is incredibly wary of contact with anyone else though, and it's taken him years to get to where he is now. Typically, unexpected touch is problematic for him, but he can usually manage the stress himself. It doesn't often evolve into full panic attacks anymore, unless he's emotional already or there's another contributing factor, making the touch more for him. Jamie is kind of the exception; Keegan hasn't dated much, and Jamie is the first person who has seriously respected his boundaries and tried to understand how to make him comfortable, and Keegan warms up to him shockingly fast, and is growing more comfortable with Jamie's touch.

Alix has a different kind of trauma. His parents should have divorced in his early years, when it became clear that they struggled to communicate and there was little to no love left between them. But they didn't. As a result, Alix spent many years in the middle of arguments, and witnessing countless negative interactions between their parents. They could find a way to argue about anything, but some of their favourites included money (despite both parents having reasonably well-paying jobs), Alix, and each other. Alix was often trying to resolve things as best he could, and tried to look out for his younger sister, spending most nights with her. By high school the fights had escalated, not being violent exactly, but certainly vicious, and the house was almost always loud. This scarred Alix, leaving him sensitive to angry tones, and loud noises, as would be expected. His friends learned quickly that there could be no shouting... arguments had to be resolved through active communication. In high school, this manifested in a new way for Alix, and they started to struggle with communication, becoming non-verbal for periods of time following disruptive nights at his house. They would get caught in feedback loops, of not being able to physically communicate and being too overwhelmed to process anything. Similar to Keegan, Alix is relatively good at handling loud noises now, but they can definitely still be overwhelmed. Unlike Keegan who's trauma tends to manifest in everyday life, Alix's presents as more fleeting and unexpected. I've been thinking of Alix's trauma response as a version of PTSD episodes, whereas Keegan's is something that he manages 100% of the time. Because Alix will be okay for periods of time, managing unexpected noises and being largely unaffected, but then occasionally he gets overstimulated and every sound is too much, often accompanied by them being non-verbal and it typically takes them awhile to recover.

Keegan, Alix, and Jayden have always been there for each other, and this is basically the only reason that they have survived everything and are as healthy as they are. They could always rely on the safety of each other, and this helped them understand what love is, and how to separate their parents from themselves.

The three of them basically had an awful time for the entirety of high school, and then Keegan and Alix escaped their houses and made a home with Jayden and things started to get better. They still deal with their trauma, and their experiences shaped their personalities, their love languages, and their self-expression.

Anyway, I hope this provides a bit more background info for these guys, especially since it seems like a lot of my fics right now are focusing on some of these parts.

Why is it I'm into the problematic Subway Boss ships (and Volo to some extent) and all there is on AO3 is stuff tagged like it's a Hannibal Lecter fic? That is....Hannibal fic with dog dicks. It seems like an initiation requirement on the blankshipping tag, like they won't let you into the discord unless you do a stupid two-dick werewolf-fuck knotting AU.

I know people here for gardevoir appreciate that I don't post the smut, but there's something honest and normal and uncomplicated about guys who are just into huge fucken garde-tiddies. I might browse the gardevoir tag on Pixiv where 90% of it is huge-ass, gigantic breasts, but at least there's not as much as the sick shit I see for the Train Clowns....and people don't act like they HATE gardevoirs like they do Volo and Emmet.

Take away: Imagine fandoms that are so ugly they make pages and pages and pagesandpagesandpagesandpages of gardevoirs with jugs on Pixiv seem not so bad.
