Looking good @conanthebeatbarian ! • Today's tonal adventure sees us setting off from D*A*M Meathead via Barber LTD SR and a lovely Italian Colorsound Powerboost clone into a very clean Boost with EQ before finishing off with a 3 flavoured muff circuit in the Barber Trifecta.

OBSCURED BY CLOUDS, 1972
Wedged between Meddle and The Dark Side Of The Moon, Pink Floyd released Obscured By Clouds. The band's second outing as composers for a Barbet Schroeder film (the first being More), the material consisted of music for the soundtrack to the movie La Vallée.
Either side of a Japanese tour, the songs had been hastily written and recorded during two one-week periods in February and March in the Strawberry Studio at the Château d'Herouville, near Paris. Musically ahead of its time, it contained excellent harmonies between David and Richard Wright both vocally and instrumentally. Along with the bullet Strat, David Gilmour used The Black Strat for the recording.
Exploring what could be achieved utilising the additional second socket, an XLR wired as a send and return that David had recently fit to the guitar, he used it with his usual set up of equipment consisting of Hiwatt amps with Wem 4 × 12 cabinets plus effects: a Binson echo, Fuzz Face distortion, Dearmond 610 volume/tone pedal, Vox Wah-Wah, Univibe and Colorsound Power Boost. The recently acquired newly developed EMS VCS3 and AKS Synthi synthesisers offered an additional range of sounds.
Despite the hectic recording schedule the album gained critical praise and contains some powerfully sublime moments, exhibiting elements of what was to come with The Dark Side Of The Moon
Disc & Music Echo called it "an amazing album” …

Humphrey Barclay - phaser-collection
"All phasers (or PhasOrs), all different. One cannot have too many phasers. . The two black Maestros (PS1A and PS1B) are slightly different. The much scarcer PS1B revision on the right has a rate control. . The Shin-Ei Univibe is not usually thought of as a Phaser, but that's what it is. As is the Schaller Rotor Sound from Germany. These were all rotating speaker emulators, to begin with. . The big orange Schulte Compact Phasing A top left is the "krautrock" phaser. The Mu-Tron BiPhase is in the short lived violet colour. . The EH Polyphase and Roland Phase Five are envelope sensitive, so the phase effect varies according to pick attack, which is trippy and expressive. . Controllers - Univibe treadle and Schulte control box omitted for space reasons. The Maestro PS1B has the hard to find foot controller (these were originally designed for keyboard players and were positioned at that level - hence the coloured Lowry switches. The Mu-tron Opti-Pot allows for real time control of several parameters. . There is a notable omission, the MXR Phase 90 - I'm waiting for a Bud box at a less than extortionate price. Also I forgot my Boss Ph1-r, which is a worthy box, if a bit newer. The DOD Vibrothang is newish, but discontinued and in my view a classic."

Jimi Hendrix, the iconic guitarist, left an indelible mark on music history. His groundbreaking techniques and innovative approach continue to inspire generations of guitarists. Let’s delve into the musical genius of Hendrix and explore the theory behind his captivating sound.
The Hendrix Chord: A Signature Sound
The Hendrix chord is a distinctive voicing that Jimi used extensively. It’s a 7#9 chord, combining a major third with a minor third (enharmonically, the #9). You’ll recognize it in songs like “Foxey Lady,” “Purple Haze,” and “Spanish Castle Magic.” Hendrix’s rhythm playing drew heavily from funk. He incorporated syncopated rhythms, muting, and slurs. Here are some funk-inspired techniques:
• In “Foxey Lady,” Hendrix uses an F#m7 chord (F#-A-C#-E) against a low F#. The 4th finger bars the notes E and A at the 5th fret. This shape is synonymous with his style.
• Single-Note Riffs: Songs like “If 6 Was 9,” “Voodoo Child,” and “Gypsy Eyes” feature single-note riffs within the A minor pentatonic scale. Use muting, trills, and bends for authenticity.
Sonic Innovation 🎸
Hendrix’s mastery extended beyond technique. He experimented with effects like Dunlop Rotovibe, Univibe, and wah-wah. These psychedelic sounds became integral to his sonic palette. And even beyond all the theory and technique, Hendrix poured raw emotion into his playing. His solos told stories, evoking feelings of love, freedom, and rebellion. Listen to “Little Wing” or “Bold As Love” to experience this lyrical magic.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience was the band that catapulted Hendrix to international fame. Formed in London in 1966, it consisted of Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell on drums. Their chemistry was electric. Hendrix’s guitar wizardry, Redding’s solid basslines, and Mitchell’s intricate drumming created a sonic landscape that defied conventions. Together, they produced hits like “Hey Joe,” “Purple Haze,” and “The Wind Cries Mary.” The band’s collaborative spirit fueled their creativity. Hendrix’s songwriting blossomed, drawing inspiration from blues, psychedelia, and rock. Redding and Mitchell provided the canvas for his musical visions.
The Essence
Hendrix’s relationship with his bands was complex—part friendship, part artistic collaboration. They were his canvas, amplifying his genius. Whether in the studio or on stage, these musicians shaped the magic that became Jimi Hendrix’s legacy.
Remember, the synergy between Hendrix and his bands transcended mere music—it was an alchemical fusion of talent, passion, and innovation.
In summary, Jimi Hendrix’s genius lies not only in his technical prowess but also in his ability to connect with listeners on a profound level. His legacy endures, inspiring guitarists to explore new horizons and push boundaries. Remember, as Hendrix once said, “Music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.” 🎸🌎

SUPER-FUZZ - brand collection
"some history about the legendary Super Fuzz ... it got its humble start in 1967 as a stand-alone unit called the "Baby Crying" Fuzz, made by the Japanese brand Honey. ... A: the original designer of the Super Fuzz is still a mystery! (yes, Fumio Mieda, designer of the Univibe, did NOT also design the Super Fuzz) B: production of the FY-6 (Super Fuzz) ran for 10 years! And, C: in that time they were licensed to an almost endless list of brands, small shops, importers, and distribution companies. ... We find plenty of Super Fuzz wedges dated well after 1970, with the latest I've come across is 1977! And that's a pretty insane revelation considering that most of us thought they were somehow all made between 1968 and '69."
