Why laughter truly is the best remedy for dealing with hardship in life.

I love to laugh.  Through my laughter, I’ve found my strength as a person.  Instead of becoming bitter or falling into a permanent despair, I have developed an uncanny ability to find humor in almost anything and it’s saved me from the abyss more than a few times.  It started out of necessity in dealing with childhood traumas that to one degree or another, we all go through.  Pain is relative and what might seem trivial to some may be unconsolable anguish to others.  In my experience on this Earth, I’ve come to see that when allowed, time heals all wounds.  When enough of it has passed, we can look back and jokes can be cracked about some of the worst things we have been through in life and feel powerful for it.  While there is always a time and place for serious matters, it is just as important to be able to laugh at ourselves and our circumstances. 

The only constant in this world is change, willpower and adaptability are our superpowers as human beings.  The secret ingredient to the secret sauce of happiness is simple in statement but hard to master in practice.  It is about shifting perspective into not taking yourself too seriously.  An image of the joker popped into my head and asked me “why so serious?”  I had to pause and mull it over in my head.  The psychotic jester and 2010’s most popular edgelord Halloween costume is correct in this statement.  Why do we take ourselves so seriously when the world can be so whacky and insane.  There’s a classic line from my favorite character in my favorite show that struck me upside the head like a semi truck with a license plate that says “Truth” on it.  “Announcing your plans is a good way to hear God laugh.” - the Gem Saloon’s owner and proprietor,  Al Swearengen.  My interpretation of these wise words are that the best laid plans in the world can be derailed by some unforeseen thing as random as a donkey fart.

There is a method to the madness that we can’t and were probably never meant to fully understand.  We don’t know what happens before we are born, when we sleep or when we die.  That can be hilarious when brought into perspective.  Each and everyone of us is thrust into a reality that each and everyone of us experiences uniquely.  We are given the miracle of self awareness with little to no guidance on who we are, what we are supposed to be or why.  All of our souls together pilot meatbag bodies through space and matter with a finite amount of time to try and make sense of a chaotic world.  If that isn’t funny then you’re not paying enough attention.

Mankind's biggest fear is of the unknown and what may be waiting for us in it.  Fear is always shrouded in darkness.  Darkness can never and will never be able to stand in the light.  This is one truth that cannot be disputed in any form.  In science, the law of conservation of energy states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed.  Only converted from one form to another.  Light is a form of energy and darkness is a lack thereof.  Keeping this in mind, we can come to the conclusion that darkness is weaker than light.  This also applies to life and emotions in that things that we would consider as dark do not last forever.  We need to feed it with our energy and that only lasts as long as we can tolerate it.  If that can be considered true then the opposite would be love which just exists.  Laughter, joy and a state of happiness are always preferable to misery and always more rewarding in existence.  Dismissing obvious concerns of physical safety, what we fear more times than not is a lie.  Allowing the grip of fear to take hold can lead to inaction, which in turn causes us to lose both in life and opportunity.   Fortune favors the brave and courage is action in spite of fear.  When we face what we fear, we always end up relieved that we pushed through and it is never as bad as what we first thought it would be.  The more we see fear as a lie, the less power it has.  The less power it has, the better our lives become.
