Concluding reflections
We initially feared that the actual level of the basic income would be too low to have a major series of effects on work and labour. However, we soon realized that the liquidity effect was likely to mean that the real value of the money was greater than it seemed and that it could unlock constraints to create mini- multiplier or transformative effects through the influence on work and labour.
Overall, the effects were positive, reducing the extent of short-term labour migration, changing the nature of child work, raising economic opportunities for women, curbing naukar labour, and leading to a shift from casual wage labour to own-account farming and non-farm economic activity. The money helped households to buy more productive assets, which helped to increase economic security as well as raise incomes.
There are also indirect effects to bear in mind, such as the impact of improved health and nutrition that make work and labour more feasible and less onerous. And one should not ignore the possibility that by providing a steadier, more predictable income, basic incomes reduce the adverse shock of temporary periods of unemployment. Households are also less likely to default on debt repayments and thus are less likely to fall into an asset loss cycle.
We believe the effects of the basic income on the pattern of work and labour were positive. Overall, there was an increase in economic activity and thus a beneficial effect on economic growth and incomes.

what's crazy about this for me is that the basic income given was only one third of their normal yearly income

I saw a TikTok asking how people are affording to live rn, honestly I think we aren't. We are surviving. Choosing which bills to pay, what treats are worth it, sharing, pocketing, just doing our best. CEOs/ government peeps are out of touch and I can't wait to enjoy their pancreas fresh out of the air fryer 🥰

Most rich people in my country inherit their money. But you always get told that people need to work to get money. Yeah, but you will not get rich with work. Not under today's circumstances.
In my country they say that work has to be worth again. They always discuss about lazy people who don't want to work and collect unemployment benefits. But these people are in a minority.
Most people who get this money work, but their income is too low for living, or they are unable to work because they take care of their children or their parents or they are too sick for it.
Take me as an example. I desperately want to work but I can't because my health isn't great. I have depression for years. Also my physical health isn't as good as it should be. I should focus on getting better but surprisingly I can't because I am stuck in the thoughts to survive.
I hope that I can focus on my health in the near future and that I'll be able to do that outside a hospital too. If my health is better then I can consider going to work. Before? Not a single chance!

Retirement pensions
Why should we pay pensions higher than average incomes to people who have earned their money by polluting without any solidarity with the rest of the people or with future generations (oil, nuclear, pharmaceutical industries, banks, etc.)?
If they earned more than the average salary when they were working, they were able to invest their money and benefit from it when they retired.
Why not opt for an unconditional / universal basic income with good health insurance that all citizens would receive, whatever their age? Then everyone would have their own strategy for increasing their income. In a rich country, there’s no reason why people shouldn’t be able to feed themselves, treat themselves and eat with dignity (organic permaculture)? Most of the poorest people are under 30. On the other hand, people who live in extreme poverty are over 60.
Why should elderly people be more deserving than people who devote themselves to their loved ones, to art, to social links, or than unemployed people who refuse to do unworthy work? What about the over-55s who no-one wants to work with and who are not yet old enough to retire? 73% of people receiving the minimum old-age pension are women. Prices are doubling every ten years, so pensioners no longer have enough to live on. As women live longer, they find themselves in poverty. We should abolish pensions, family allowances, the minimum income allowance (RSA), unemployment benefits, student grants and all the civil servants who manage them and who cost society so much, and introduce an unconditional universal basic income.

The richest 5% earn more than the other 50%. They are the ones who should pay, they are the ones who are not taxed.
We have to stop always taxing the same people, i.e. workers and companies. We need to tax those who own and inherit the country’s wealth.

It's written by people caught up in the puritan mindset of "suffering to prove yourself worthy". The same mindset behind not accepting the conclusion to the tons of studies done on universal income, the 4 or even 3 day work weeks, abolishing homework, having school days start later in the day + be shorter as well as many many other.
The "I had it tough to get where I am, and so should others!"
And before anyone starts blaming Conservatives/Republicans please note that democrats are as bad as this as any other party. Even here in oh so progressive and socialist little Denmark, our most socialist party, Enhedslisten, voted against universal income.
Why?
Well, you see they're primarily funded by (our definately necessary and absolutely effective unions) who fear becoming obsolete. Despite evidence pointing to unions becoming stronger with UI because they will be a choice instead of something you have to join to ensure your own rights.
Fear clouds vision. If you believe you are in danger of losing your livelyhood you will most likely act in your own self interest with no regard to long term consequences, to the point of blindness and embracing cruelty.
To kill the puritan blight you need to be aware of and fight your own bias and fear. A painful and demanding task easy to ignore without apparent consequences to yourself, it only benefits other people. The people you already don't care about and actively fear robbing you of your security and stability.
Empathy and understanding is the enemy of Puritanism. And empathy is for the most part learned. From parents and other role models during upbringing, from experienced hardship (though this can go both ways as it can just as well trap you in fear) and being taught compassion and love for your fellow human.
Lipservice not included *cough*Evangelicals*cough*.
It is mainly taught by example.
Go be excellent to each other and accept that some people take longer to teach than others, and that seeing results is less important than doing the work. You're planting a tree for the coming generations, not quick-fixing the world. You're showing empathy out of genuine compassion, not trying to gain something. Which is exactly what an enlightened civilization is built on.
Every time a story is like "this enlightened civilization solved war, scarcity, and disease but doing so only made life boring and meaningless because you need Suffering for anything to be worthwhile" I just wonder how they even made it that far with seemingly not even a concept of games or simulated conflict in general.

It just dawned on me that the same people who are against Universal Income because people won't use it properly to live but for things they consider a waste.
Are the same people who advocate for Social Security and how it's wildly abused to fuel gambling addictions in casinos

Guys, this article contains a list of the places in the US that have been experimenting with universal income payments. They've been giving citizens EXTRA MONEY for doing NOTHING. There are no tests to pass. No required qualifications.
If your community is not on this list then you need to get out there and start voting.
Not voting is letting the fascists win.

I would also like to add that we keep talking about money when that shouldn't necesarily be the basis of it.
Money is a thing we invented, a tool, a system or a mechanism and it feels like it's the basis of everything becouse that's what we are used to but that's not really necesarily how it should be. It could be diferent.
To me it feels like we are using it wrong or overusing it. This universal income thing could be done without it: Let's say that instead of giving people a basic universal income, you give them the things they need to cover their basic needs. Just free housing, free education, healthcare, transport... and leave money for the extra stuff. You'd still need money if you want more than the basics that everyone gets, like vacations, videogames, fancy things... that's what you'd work for, it would all be extra. (I dunno if Im explaining myself well)

It's considered normal to fantasize about winning the lottery and not having to work anymore.
It's considered normal to fantasize about owning a business and having others work for you.
It's considered normal to fantasize about owning rental properties and living off of the passive income they generate.
But if you fantasize about a world in which no one has to work, that's considered farfetched. People respond with "you just want to be lazy and leech off of the working class", even though the other three scenarios in which that's actually true are considered acceptable.

Giving a regular cash payment to the entire world population has the potential to increase global gross domestic product (GDP) by 130%, according to a new analysis published June 7 in the journal Cell Reports Sustainability. Researchers suggest that charging carbon emitters with an emission tax could help fund such basic income programs while reducing environmental degradation. "We are proposing that if we can couple basic income with environmental protection, we can save two birds with one stone," says first author U. Rashid Sumaila of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
