Felt like making this post because I realized the other day that not everybody knows about Media Mail! It's less common nowadays, and the USPS doesn't exactly advertise it; it's not up on the board or available at the self-service kiosk, you have to go to an actual post office and ask at the counter.

Media Mail shipping is a cost-effective way to send educational materials. This service has restrictions on the type of media that can be shipped. Media Mail rates are limited to the items listed below: Books (at least 8 pages). Sound recordings and video recordings, such as CDs and DVDs. Play scripts and manuscripts for books, periodicals, and music. Printed music. Computer-readable media containing prerecorded information and guides or scripts prepared solely for use with such media. Sixteen millimeter or narrower width films. Printed objective test materials and their accessories. Printed educational reference charts. Loose-leaf pages and their binders consisting of medical information for distribution to doctors, hospitals, medical schools, and medical students.

Media mail is a much, MUCH cheaper way to send books and other paper materials than UPS, FedEx, or even first class USPS -- today I shipped a box that would have cost something like $50 to send by weight, and instead I was able to send it by media rate for less than $10.

Dejoy made his employees give money to Republicans campaigns, then paid them back in fake bonus money. Becoming a big Republican donor gave DeJoy his current job.

On this day, July 23, 2020, I have once again written to my senators (this time about the post office, which desperately needs emergency funds to survive). I am posting a copy of the letter here if anyone wants to use or alter it to send to their own senators:

I regularly rely on the postal service to deliver work materials, bills, and purchases on time. All of these activities support our economy and the Postal Service is vital to accomplishing these tasks.

The new Postmaster General is deliberately hurting the Post Office by ordering a slow down for mail delivery. Additionally, the Post Office has been as hard hit due to the pandemic. Consequently, the Postal Service is in need of emergency funding.

The Postal Service has served this country for more than 200 years and it is a necessary part of our future. I urge you to ensure that funding for the Postal Service is included in the next economic stimulus package.

I will be watching for your action on this matter.

Biden also wants to make the USPS fleet of vehicles electric, he will also be able to appoint new goveners to the USPS, and would be able to oust Trump’s choice of postmaster, DeJoy.

I've been informed by my stepdad that an employee at the post office he worked for was immediately fired after making a racist remark to a black co-worker. no questions, no fanfare. no validation for an attention-seeker. this is the correct response and I hope this becomes the norm.
