I went to a local doll fair yesterday and brought my Marie Teacup (she fits safely and perfectly into the Barbie Cakeworthy bag so that was pretty cool). So I thought today would be cool day to show some much clearer photos of my teacup & teacup hybrid!

My first teacup, Marie is from the most recent teacup preorder and is just adorable in the resin color Vanilla Pudding. I had gotten her head separately and my amazing friend @/amberharrisart found a way to get me her body for my bday 🥹❤️ so she has a very special place in my heart! She will probably have many fashion adventures but is currently styled after mori kei.

Aurie, my teacup hybrid happened very shortly after Marie. Because I was absolutely obsessed and wanted another one. Aurie is one of my original faves when I first found DDD, and I styled & named her after one of Fave j fashion icons; Minori! She’s hybrided on a melonpan kit body, the match was unexpected and pleasant surprise. Next thing I knew she’d called dibs on that body. I will say it is a great fit if you happen to have floating teacup head, the head sits perfectly on the kit body’s neck.

Both of their faceups are by me, and supposed to parallel each other on top of pushing as much maximalist decorating I could fit here. Marie’s horn I do not know the maker (and decorated on top), Minori’s is a syntheticephemera (used to be Lorelei’s before her unicorn wig).

Their outfits are a combo of dollmore but most of the accessories, which I feel really make the outfits; are from @/worldruinedsales. Most of my mori & high fantasy styled dolls are styled with accessories from them. And I have to say if you don’t already follow @/worldruinedfactory you are missing out, as they record and post lovely outfit styling flat lays with brand & designer information. An amazing BJD styling resource!

And of course, Marie is a full teacup by @/dodollsdream and Minori is the teacup Aurie head on the human kit body from Melondolls.

5 Years of Aloy

Continuing my character appreciation series, it's time we turned to Aloy.

August 2018. Pretty sure these were my first sketches of her.

I started Horizon Zero Dawn in May 2018 – I can always remember, because it was very appropriately Mother's Day. I think it was the first open world game I'd ever played, and I just found the whole universe to be so engrossing – a mix of postapocalyptic sci fi, the Iron Age, and cavemen vs dinosaurs.

September 2018 (trying to draw a Watcher)

But of course Aloy herself was a big part of the appeal. Can I relate to her? No, I'm not a genius prodigy with no friends. But I can admire Aloy – her smarts, her bravery, her utter fed-up-edness. She's always fun to follow alongside as a protagonist.

January 2019

Playing HZD fell around the same time I decided I wanted to get back to posting online regularly again. This 1/19 picture was one of the first things I posted. I was so surprised and pleased when Guerilla Games reblogged/favorited it on Tumblr and DeviantArt.

June 2019 (Aloy and her early concept horse)

So I associate Aloy and HZD with a pretty positive time in my life.

October 2019 (Aloy on an original unicorn machine, because why shouldn't we have unicorns in the postapocalypse?)

And one thing I especially liked about Forbidden West is that it highlighted Aloy's faults. There were times in Zero Dawn where things came so easily to Aloy and it felt like she was always unilaterally in the right, the one sane person in the universe. Forbidden West showed that she was far from perfect, and I welcomed that.

November 2019

Aloy is generous, self-sacrificial but still aware of her own worth; powerful, driven, and always planning ahead. But she's emotionally short-sighted, inflexible at times, and I think she could actually be cruel under the right circumstances. As with Elisabet, her altruism is a love that ���bruises”.

She's intriguing and inspiring, so it comes as no surprise that I ended up drawing her a fair bit, especially given the fandom still felt so new and vibrant.

Drawing Aloy presents a number of consistent challenges for me. First of all, she's based on a real person. That makes it a lot harder for me to fall back on stylistic shortcuts. Even if I'm not a realistic artist, I still want to catch something of the “soul” of the actor and leave her recognizable.

March 2020

For another, all of Aloy's costumes are intricate. Sometimes I use references, but more often I'll put her in an outfit of my own design, throwing in elements from the different in-game tribes – as I think people would really do, if these cultures really existed. And certainly something that I think “Aloy Despite the Nora” would do.

February 2021

The designers at GG once congratulated themselves that one of Aloy's virtues is that she doesn't care about stereotypically “feminine” things like make up and clothes and jewelry. Along with that just being a bad take on a number of fronts, I've never believed it. The evidence doesn't bear it out.

June 2021 (I think this was right around the Forbidden West trailers started showing up)

The games themselves show Aloy wearing excessive jewelry and make up, tons of different outfits, being totally maximalist with her beads and layers and dinosaurish headdresses and now body paint on top of everything else (or under everything else). Is her appearance the most important thing in her life? No. Because she's currently saving the world. But it's clear she cares about her appearance and there's nothing wrong with that.

December 2021

Moving forward into Burning Shores (which I haven't played yet) and Horizon 3 (which I'm eagerly awaiting news on), I don't know what my specific hopes for Aloy are.

February 2022 (and then Forbidden West finally came out)

I want to see her remained flawed, but then I also want to see her grow. I'd to see her grow happier, whatever form that takes.

April 2022

Maybe a stress-free vacation sometime? I'd say the beach, but bad things happen when she goes to the beach.

May 2023

Whatever happens, I'm looking forward to seeing her again.

I didn’t know how cool the model horse community was. I went out to Hobby Town today and I was amazed by these horses.

I’ll put up the photos I’ve taken and rate each of these horses.

This is a pretty basic horse and what I use as my starting point. This is the most normal looking horse and I like it. A simple black horse sculpt with a flying mane and tail, what more could you want of your basic horse. And as a bonus, it comes with reading material! Nice. 6.5/10

There’s also a girl version of this horse called Black Beauty who I’m not including here but is basically the same thing so I’m rating that horse the same.

Ok next horse! What do we have…

Ooh! A butch-ish unicorn! The mane, tail and feathering on the legs is beautifully sculpted and comes with glitter which looks nice on the all black horse model. I like the silver horn as well.

This unicorn would own a cool, bespoke leather jacket and go to gay bars on Friday nights. They look intimidating, but they’re really a sweetheart. 7/10 very good unicorn.

A water horse! This horse has the same sculpt as the black horse from earlier but a really radically different color scheme. It looks like the sculptor wanted the mane and tail to look like a wave but it kind of reminds me of glass a bit more. I love the effect anyway! The legs and hooves are also translucent, really leaning into the ocean theme which I like. The dappled silver and blue is pretty, looking like foam and ocean water. What a cool horse!

This horse would give me an hour lecture on different species of local fish and ocean wildlife and I would be delighted. 7.5/10 Good horse.

Peace and love on planet earth. This hippy unicorn looks tranquil, and the pastel color scheme is really pretty. I like how the body colors fade into the mane and tail, as though you are the one tripping out when you’re looking at the unicorn. The big ‘ol peace sign is gonna be divisive I imagine but it works for me. It gives it some fun and camp that I appreciate in a plastic unicorn.

This unicorn dodged the draft, protested the Vietnam War, and has done every psychedelic. 7.7/10 a good and lucky horse.

Oh I love this horse. I mean, you know that this is The Gay Horse. This glossy rainbow horse is rearing and ready go and the musculature really standing out thanks to the finish they applied to this horse. I’m immensely delighted by this horse.

I also know for a fact that Jewels is this horse’s drag name and that their name is Jules when they’re not performing. This is a gay drag horse that fucks other gay horses. The unicorn from earlier sees this horse at the gay bar all the time but is too shy to get this horse’s number. 8.5/10 great horse.

The 90s Throwback horse is ALMOST PERFECT. If they had dipped this horse in glitter then there was a good chance I would have adopted this plastic horse. I love the blue and purple leopard print with all my heart. I love that sassy prancing pose! I love the platinum blonde mane and tail with purple tips!! I love the blue hooves! This horse was made for people who love the 90s and maximalist kitsch. I just want them to cover it in glitter and it would be perfect.

This horse is the Britney Spears of horses. They own at karaoke. In 2001 this horse would be sold out. This horse has platinum pop records. 9/10 fantastic horse.

I feel nothing but loathing for the America Horse. I struggle to review it objectively. I am angry that such a pretty sculpt went to this horse. The mane and tail look like Art Nouveau sculpts which is appealing to me. The soft pink gradient on the muzzle is a nice touch, I guess.

But this horse is definitely homophobic. This horse tried to shut down a drag show and calls people groomers. I hate this horse -4/10.

I’ve saved the best horse for last. This was one of the only horses that came with accessories and my god. This horse has everything. A beautiful sculpt. Perfect winter colors. INCREDIBLE SKILL FOR ACCESSORIZING.

This horse has it all. This is the Beyoncé of plastic horses. Opulence. They own everything. I give this horse a 10/10.

daffodil 🌼 do you have siblings? if yes, in what ways do you think you’re similar to or different from them?

I do indeed! I’m the baby of the family - my brother is 6 years older, and my sister 4. My brother and I have inherited our parents’ anxiety, though it manifests differently. We're both childless and single and so stuck in our ways that will probably never change.

It's harder to find common ground with my sister. She's got a cozy middle class life in the suburbs. She and my brother-in-law wanted me to move to her city, and I wanted that for awhile too (my niece and nephew are there) until I spent a few months living there during Covid and realized it's extremely not the place for me (super politically conservative, big car culture while I'm a public transit user, the downtown core is dead after 6pm, what was I even gonna do there!!!) and according to my mother, she's bitter that I didn't choose it over where I ended up and we've barely spoken in months. So I guess one of the major things we have in common is that, just like our parents, we do NOT open up about any simmering issues we've got and simply let them fester instead.

Okay, here’s the thing: I moved into my place in May and I still haven’t done much decorating. I've got my stuff! They're just mostly in boxes, or just sitting on the floor cause I haven't put shelves up.

I started collecting lots of cute silly kitsch awhile back - vintage lamps, lots of unicorns and flamingos and turtles. Cute vintage pink shelves for the wall lined with colourful tropical wallpaper. Most of my basic furniture is white, but everything else I buy in bright colours or patterns, lots of pink, purple, rose gold. Eventually I wanna go for a very maximalist look - vintage hoarder cat lady chic, as my old roommate put it.

i am a school teacher and my wardrobe can best be described as "miss frizzle if she was allowed to be a bit more openly gay".

i am literally always on the hunt for nature and science clothing that is:

1) brightly colorful; shades of beige and colorless fashion will die by my sword

2) realistic; no pink sloths or unicorns or whatever

3) maximalistic; whoever decided that nature inspired clothes need to be minimalist was a fucking coward and I demand to fight them in a Dennys parking lot

I hate that I’m always trying to find cool biology themed stuff to wear but all the “nature inspired” clothing companies just have like two crossed arrows or a minimalistic mountain on a sweatshirt. Fucking lame, that’s barely even nature-adjacent. Put the life cycle of a salamander on a jacket, put hyena skeleton patterns on leggings, put a damn field guide of birds of prey on a peacoat and THEN you can have my money. Do NOT give me a shirt with a leaf on it that says “stay wild” or some bullshit I would much prefer clothing that broadcasts to everyone around me how many teeth an adult Jaguar has or how some pitcher plants can catch and digest rats.

I’ve always said he and I would get along and if his apartment is colorful then I am even more convinced we would because my house looks like le creuset and a unicorn barfed all over it lmao. I’ve got mismatched multicolored chairs, mismatched multicolored walls, mismatched multicolored scatter cushions, mismatched multicolored vases and decorative decanters and stuff on display, yellow curtains, and my boyfriend recently found these art prints where it’s a black and white photo but with accents colorized and I’m OBSESSED with them. It’s funny because my boyfriend’s vision was originally like all black and white and kind of minimalist but I am the most maximalist person in the world and the joke is he’s now complaining about rooms that aren’t brightly colored enough lol. So Joe and I would agree on decor I think.
