Thank you for that fine forensic analysis, Mr. Bodine. Of course the experience of it was... Somewhat different.

The greater part of adulthood [..] lies in the acceptance of oneself as a fundamentally lone ranger, a person adept enough at changing a bulb and making a sandwich to get along more or less without help. One can work at this kind of independence, come to it in stages or all at once, but however much one perfects the art of paying taxes and otherwise keeping afloat, the fullness of adulthood can never be realized until a parent is beyond one's reach. One might, at any time, sever ties and release a mother or father, might maintain such a rift for the rest of their natural lives, but death is irrevocable. Death, after all, puts an end to the argument, but it also prolongs the silence for good. -Julia Armfield, Private Rites

The problem with love, of course, is that it frequently asks too much of unloveable people. It can be hard, on even the best of days, to compel oneself to be selfless and patient and undemanding or even halfway reasonable when one is not given to any of these behaviors.

now that trump has tiktok, twitter, facebook and insta in his pocket, get ready for a massive wave of internet censorship. one of trump's greatest weapons has always been misinformation; it's going to become harder and harder to spread facts and criticism going forward. posts that aren't made invisible will be magically ignored by the algorithm. dissidents will have their accounts deleted and voices erased.
this is a suppression tactic. this is another stage of fascism.

Lmfao I just saw your tags and I'm so sorry / I cannot stop laughing that a tomgreg fanvid was the reason you started watching succession. That is the most devastating / hilarious thing and also so representative of the actual show, you were misled and manipulated into something you wanted and thought was going to happen and in the end it was out of reach and doomed from the start (although I absolutely consider tomgreg to be canon given... everything about their dynamic lmfao)
also I'm realizing this sounds like I'm laughing at you and I 100% am not I promise, I'm laughing in commiseration bc I too have begun watching shows based on fanvids/art/fic/etc thinking it was going to happen and it never appeared on screen lol
My best friend told me I should start watching it and sent me that video without further comment!! I hadn't put together how much it made thematic sense when it comes to the show though, so thank you for that! I'd realized during S1 TomGreg was in fact Not A Thingโข๏ธ but that honestly just made me love that beloved fanvid even more. Shoutout to that YouTube creator for changing my life, and for giving Cruel Summer the music video it deserved.

There are [..] few frustrations to match that of being read a certain way by family members. To be misunderstood is one thing, but the curious hostility of a sibling's approach lies less in what they miss than in the strange backdated nature of things they choose to know. A person can be thirty, thirty-five, and yet still largely described by her sisters in terms of things that happened to be true at the age of seventeen [..] the sensation, then, not so much of being misunderstood as of being understood too well at one time and then never again.
