"I'm Going Slightly Mad" and Good Omens 2
YES!! This song is ABSOLUTELY in Good Omens Season 2. Just like the other coffee shop scenes, I didn't hear it until I saw it in the X-Rays! (So is The Show Must Go On, see my post about that). It's in Episode 5. Nina already called Crowley out on being an item ("bit on the side") with Aziraphale. This is about 13 minutes into the episode. (My apologies, if anyone knows how to do screenshots or GIFS, please message me or comment so I can figure out how to capture this visually). The scene I'm referencing is where Nina is all alone and has the chalkboard displayed on the counter and starts getting emotionally abusive texts from her partner. These texts are displayed on the chalkboard, and then Nina erases them away. The scene RIGHT BEFORE this is where Crowley calls Aziraphale over as he sits at the French restaurant drinking some wine and hiding from Jim/Gabriel, worried about being "smited? smote?"..."Smitten, I believe." He is WORRIED, he stayed up all night WORRYING about what could happen. The scene RIGHT AFTER Nina erases texts from the chalkboard is Crowley confronting Jim/Gabriel about trying to destroy Aziraphale and telling "my only friend to shut his stupid mouth and die...and I did not care for it." Crowley goes TO THE EDGE and tells Jim/Gabriel to jump out the window. This is UNHINGED Crowley...and yes, indeed he is "Going Slightly Mad."
Crowley isn't the only one, however, "Going Slightly Mad," and I'm curious why and how Nina is also "going slightly mad." I don't think it has anything to do with her abusive relationship, but rather all the weird stuff that is going on around her. Think about all the times that Crowley and Aziraphale are trying to influence them...they are FOCUSED on Nina and Maggie getting together. Think about their power TOGETHER when they made the miracle SO BIG it sent alarm bells off in Heaven. Do you think those miracles towards Nina and Maggie could have a...strange effect on them? Is that why they can't be "hypnotized" after the demons storm the bookshop? I still think something odd beyond what we can see is going on, but even if it's just the miracles pointed in their direction, at least Nina is sensing something weird. She even expresses this in Episode 5 to Aziraphale and to Maggie. She knows Something is going on, and she can't quite put her finger on it.
This song really is a great look at how both Nina and Crowley are feeling "slightly mad" about things going on around them. The other thing it COULD mean is that..."we, as the audience" are also going "slightly mad" since we know something is weird and we can't quite put our fingers on exactly WHAT is going on. FOR EXAMPLE...I just think it's interesting that the coffee shop is ALWAYS playing Queen songs (just in instrumental versions), just like the Bentley...
It's just all these small details that I freaking love! Here are the lyrics if you want to see what I mean!
I'm Going Slightly Mad, Queen
When the outside temperature rises And the meaning is, oh, so clear One thousand and one yellow daffodils Begin to dance in front of you. Oh, dear
Are they trying to tell you something? You're missing that one final screw You're simply not in the pink, my dear To be honest, you haven't got a clue
I'm going slightly mad I'm going slightly mad It finally happened, happened It finally happened. Oh, oh It finally happened I'm slightly mad
Oh, dear!
I'm one card short of a full deck I'm not quite the shilling One wave short of a shipwreck I'm not my usual top-billing
I'm coming down with a fever I'm really out to sea This kettle is boiling over I think I'm a banana tree
Oh, dear
I'm going slightly mad I'm going slightly mad It finally happened, happened Finally happened. Uh, huh Finally happened I'm slightly mad
Oh, dear!
Ooh-ooh-ah-ah, ooh-ooh-ah-ah
I'm knitting with only one needle Unraveling fast. It's true I'm driving only three wheels these days But, my dear, how about you?
I'm going slightly mad I'm going slightly mad It finally happened It finally happened Oh, yes It finally happened I'm slightly mad! Just very slightly mad! And there you have it!

Let there be Light
You probably noticed that one of the lamps in Aziraphale’s bookshop goes out after he gets into the elevator, clearly visible in the final shot. But of course this is Good Omens and the lamps aren’t just lamps, so let’s slither inside for a better look at what’s going on. Sometimes a little perspective change makes all the difference.
Tumblr media
The twin lamps are actually statues of two brass cherubs facing the interior of the bookshop — their own world — just like the two angels we saw Before the Beginning facing the creation of the solar system, their current home. Aziraphale always on the left, Crowley on the right.
Tumblr media
The fact that it’s the right — Crowley’s — lamp that broke at the end of the Final Fifteen can mean two things. Either the light of his life has left him that morning and the lamp reflects his loss, or just like a porch lamp it indicates that he’s the one not home, but in Heaven.

"Yandere x reader twst characters!" "Yandere first years!"
No, I just want a twst au where the first years decide to test how far they can go with insanity with how many horrors they deal with in one school year. Yuu included.
Yuu should act like the leader they were meant to be instead of being just a background piece.
Ace may not have a UM of his own and constantly gets underestimated, but knows how to put his wits and misdirection to good use.
Deuce may be slow when it comes to learning new things and is trying his best to be an honor student to make his mom proud... But he now knows that an honor student doesn't have some other qualities of his and that it can help him in more ways than one.
Jack may be a person who follows his principles well, but maybe, a little bit of personal justice wouldn't hurt. Especially when it comes to his pack.
Epel isn't going back to his old days, he swears! Even if it is tempting sometimes. But ever since he finally started to understand what Vil meant after that conversation with Deuce from VDC, as well as some tips from Yuu... Playing the "poison apple" is quite satisfying once he got used to self-restraint.
Ortho might act optimistic and innocent most of the time because his personality was set to be that of a child, but he's also... very overprotective of those he considers family. He's constantly learning more about the world around him, which also extends to the people he surrounds himself with! So, he shouldn't have much of a problem with... terminating threats to those he cares about. The line between right and wrong is blurry in NRC, after all!
Of course, there's nothing like murder or anything like that!... But the psychological damage/reputation/injuries are enough to scar anyone who goes far enough to do anything funny is quite... unfortunate.
The best-case scenario is when you get spooked enough as a warning! But I don't recommend trying again though. :D
You don't want to be one of the people who are foolish enough to do the same despite having a clear mind, unlike those who Overblotted, do you?
I may or may have not randomly written this after remembering the english lyrics to this song exist.

Season One meta posts in 2024? Yes, very much so. We need more of that.
Will this be slightly unhinged? Yeah, probably, so welcome back to Alex's unhinged meta corner.
Everyone has probably connected the kiss back to the wall-slam scene in Tadfield Manor by now, but while I was re-watching it for the nth time and combing through it frame by frame like a mentally sane person, I realised just how orchestrated it was from beginning to end.
I assume we can agree that Aziraphale called Crowley nice on purpose to get a hint of intimacy out of him, but I think this time it is very different from the other instances during which he reacts with anger to being called nice.
My first main observation is the way Aziraphale positions himself.
We pick up after Crowley's explanation about the non-lethal shooting happening outside, and they are facing each other at an angle, with Aziraphale having stopped a few steps behind him.
Tumblr media
Now, until the slam itself, Crowley doesn't move, he remains where he is, waiting. (We'll come back to that in a bit)
However, instead of remaining at a safe distance or standing literally standing anywhere else, he walks a small curve to then stop right in front of Crowley. Not at his side or a little bit away or at a respectable distance—no, right in his face. You can judge his position by looking at the wooden door (?) in the background.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The following camera position makes it hard to see the amount of distance between their faces, but we know that he must be close enough so that Crowley can immediately grab his coat without problem.
Excuse my art skills, but just to make sure everyone is on the same page, have a little drawing showing their positions and movements.
Tumblr media
Now, that manoeuvring takes Aziraphale a few seconds, and what does he do? He stalls. Look at what exactly he tells Crowley:
You know, Crowley, I've always said that, deep down, you are quite a nice—
There are a lot more words than necessary! He could have shortened that sentence but he didn't, and on top of that, if you listen to him say it, he makes two noticeable pauses, one after 'Crowley with a little look outside, one after 'that'. By then he has reached his final position, so no more stalling, he can try to finish his sentence now.
Alex, you might say now, of course Aziraphale did it on purpose, but Crowley only reacted to what he said.
And to that I respond, nope, he was 100% in on it.
I know because when Aziraphale stops in front of him, he waits. He does not move, he doesn't shut him up even though he has heard the same spiel hundreds of times—no, he is waiting and allowing Aziraphale to initiate their little game.
This face is not the face of someone who is already angry or confused about which words will tumble out of Aziraphale's mouth. He even arches his eyebrow in a motion that I personally interpret as 'go on'.
Tumblr media
Crowley is listening and waiting for the signal, and the moment Aziraphale says 'nice', he grabs him and pushes him up against the opposite wall. It's an extraordinarily quick reaction, the kind you have when you know you're about to act and what you'll do.
Some further evidence that the entire moment was orchestrated by the two of them.
Aziraphale stretches out his arms behind him to brace himself against the wall, he was expecting to be moved that way and intentionally put himself into a position that would allow Crowley to do so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Additionally, by grabbing his lapels the way he does, Crowley can make sure that the back of his head doesn't hit the wall. If you watch the clip by yourself and slow it down, you'll discover that Aziraphale gently rests it against the wall on his own while Crowley is talking.
Tumblr media
Aziraphale is completely relaxed not only because he knows Crowley would never hurt him, but also because this entire thing is a game that they willingly participate in. It is dangerously under-negotiated, sure; luckily they more or less agree on the ground rules.
Obligatory close-up with the noise squish because I am a blorbo connoisseur and not a heathen. The little eye gaze at the lips, and if you ask me, and this is my post so you ARE asking me, Crowley is very much looking at Aziraphale's lips from behind his glasses.
Tumblr media
But I have one more observation to make!
I could never quite put my finger on why exactly the scene felt off, but now I am convinced it's because despite the act, Crowley isn't actually upset. There ARE times when Aziraphale actively crosses a boundary and endangers him with his compliments, but this is not one of them. The growling, him baring his teeth, the fact that he is pressing their entire bodies together, him leaning in thar far, and also what the FUCK is he saying?
The excerpt from the script books:
Tumblr media
First part okay, I can buy that, a bit basic but alright. But 'nice is a four letter word'? Where exactly was he going with that and how was that sentence going to end? It's close enough to the topic to pass as real for any outsider who might overhear them, but if you actually listen and try to comprehend it—yeah, no, he was about to go full gibberish.
The goal wasn't to yell at Aziraphale about calling him nice, it was all about prolonging the physical intimacy by holding a monologue.
If you still don't believe me, have a look at their faces when they get interrupted.
Crowley has a "whot?" expression on his face and not a single hint of anger or annoyance. Aziraphale has an expression I will lovingly call "perish you peasant and let my demon husband slam me against a wall in peace".
Tumblr media
If someone gave you only this picture—no context, nothing—what would you assume they were doing before someone rudely interrupted them? Based on what the fuck is happening on their faces and the complete lack of distance between their bodies, you'd probably assume they were snogging each other senseless.
Which they were, in a way, just without the lip contact.
I rest my case.

I've got the very weird feeling Nina would be the type of gal pal that would try and convince Crowley to get into Tinder/Grindr and when he does cave, she takes the phone from him and starts swipping right in every single possible person without looking at faces or details or anything, not because she cares and lowkey feels guilty over the whole breakup (she does, but don't let Crowley - much less Maggie - even dream about it), but because she really really wants to see what happens like a social experiment. And because she's chaotic, cmon

I know that this has probably been said to death atp, but the most heartbreaking part of The Final Fifteen (™️) is that THEY WERE BOTH RIGHT.
All Crowley has ever wanted is to run away with his angel, whether it's to Alpha Centuries or just Aziraphale's bookshop. He was RIGHT to say that heaven and hell are toxic. He was RIGHT to say that they don't need them. He was RIGHT to say that he's better than that, that THEY'RE better than that. Crowley's a demon for a reason; he doesn't have faith in innate goodness, he knows that heaven and hell will break their promises. He's suffered SO FUCKING MUCH at the hands of both, and watched Aziraphale suffer for heaven's sake, and he's RIGHT to know that they deserve better.
But as much as he loves Crowley, Aziraphale could never give up on something without at least trying to fix it. There's no way that he could've just left, because that's not who he is and that's not the Angel Crowley loves. He believes SO DEEPLY in the good in the world, in the potential for change, so he could never pass up the opportunity to 'fix the system' - to make heaven a place where no one has to feel like he did again. Whether or not it works (and it will, in small, seemingly insignificant ways like the scriveners getting new offices, and the rules on who can go to earth loosening, and that little bit of rebounding kindness cycling around and around even the most toxic place), he had to try because THAT'S WHO HE IS. He's an angel in the best sense of the word, and he was RIGHT that he could make a difference. And, as much as we all hate to admit it, the metratron was RIGHT. Aziraphale will be a wonderful leader.
So I like to think that, once they get past the initial anger, despite the heartbreak they're both feeling, they understand each other.
And they're proud.
Aziraphale is proud of Crowley for acknowledging his worth and, in a smaller, guiltier way, for telling Hell exactly where to shove their job offer. He's proud of him for knowing that, even alone, he's better than that.
Crowley is proud of Aziraphale for still being the angel he fell in love with, and he's praying to someone other than God that Aziraphale is making the Metatron's life HELL (pun intended). He's proud of him for his kindness, and selflessness. He's proud of his determination to break the cycle.

The summer that was never supposed to end
Tumblr media
You’ve probably noticed how in Good Omens 2 Crowley’s eyes are brighter, more saturated, as if glistening with liquid gold. We’ve already covered his hair. And it’s not only the visual aspect of him — even in objectively stressful conditions, Crowley appears mature and put together, way cooler and more protective than before. Even his faults are heavily romanticized in the past and present scenes, reminding of the S1 body swap, when Aziraphale projected his love to him on the way he played the demon in Hell.
It’s not just the demon. The whole season is more vibrant, bolder, filled with sunshine. Just like a summer that was never supposed to end. Like a memory of a loved one seen through the eyes of someone who thinks of them every day until the end of the world.
S2 seems ridiculously saturated, whimsical, and full of red and gold, just like a certain demon. Aziraphale not only painted his bookshop in his image, but literally colored the whole world in Crowley’s colors. It was such lush and saturated and blooming with warmth and hazy light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s either that all the newest events are just another memory seen through a certain angel’s eyes, or said angel actively made it appear this way — as in, his feelings grew so strong that they’ve started to warp the reality around him. And it’s a well-known fact that Aziraphale has a tendency to affect his surroundings, either unconsciously, when his presence in the bookshop literally lightens up the sky seen through its windows, or very much consciously, when he takes over the position of a master puppeteer and manipulates people with or without the help of his miracles.
Tumblr media
S1 was more dramatic and apocalyptic, but not particularly gray — at least not as much as the color grading typically used in portrayal of similar apocalyptic narratives. S2, at least as seen through Aziraphale’s own La Vie En Rose lens, is vibrant and saturated. And those colors drastically fade in the heavenly light of the elevator during the credits, suggesting that they won’t be as visible in the course of S3.
But I don’t want to ramble about the apocalypse sandwich and the three-act structure here, so let’s circle back to S2.
Tumblr media
Good Omens 2 was really set in a summer that was never supposed to end. But it did, autumn crept in, and there was no chance of hearing the nightingales sing. They all had left by the time an angel and a demon finally kissed.
In the most literal sense: the very last nightingales usually migrate from the UK to their wintering grounds in Sub-Saharan Africa in the first days of September.
Aziraphale was right that nothing lasts forever — and the passage of time on Earth is marked by subtle details invisible to the immortal eyes.
The main thing about autumn migration is how sudden and hard to predict it is. The birds start disappearing gradually, often without notice, until at some point they are no longer here. Much like the angel leaves the bookshop — their shared nest — to spread his wings and fight.
Tumblr media
And it was basically announced on the poster.
Can you see the migratory formation of birds up in the sky? It looks like Aziraphale is the last one to get off the ground and fly.

-the bookshop-
aziraphale: *examining a bouquet of flowers*
aziraphale, curious: do you know where this came from?
gabriel, shrugs: nah, they arrived this morning, boss. no note or anything.
aziraphale, sighs: I wish you wouldn’t call me that.
crowley: *enters*
aziraphale: ah, crowley! someone sent some beautiful flowers-
crowley, panics: *runs forward and frantically starts eating the bouquet*
aziraphale, trying to stop him: crowley! have you lost your mind?
crowley, mouthful of leaves and petals: you should know better than to accept gifts from strangers, angel. I thought you were clever.
aziraphale, very confused: what are you talking about? it’s a bunch of flowers! I thought it was a very thoughtful, lovely gift
crowley, gesturing: yeah, well, in future, don’t. just...leave it.
aziraphale, suspicious: why?
crowley, sweating: mind your own business *runs off*
gabriel, sweeping up the mess: he’s probably worried about hay fever.
aziraphale: ...
-the record shop, a few moments later-
maggie: *tidying*
crowley: *bursts in*
crowley, exasperated: stOP helPINg me. I can HANdle It.
maggie, unfazed: if you don’t ask him today, it’ll be poetry next.
crowley, gasps dramatically: you’re worse than our lot *leaves*
