So good, in fact, that Mechi is now "athletic"! I'm not sure how that comes from a knighthood ceremony—and I had very little idea of how to convey it in a drawing—but, uh... congrats, I suppose?

Next up is Kwahu! Yay!

Kwahu did not get a new trait, but that's alright. I already imagine that "his movements are smooth and graceful" without needing the athletic trait.

Mechi doesn't need to be Kwahu's heir; he's already a knight. We're going to call The Empire and politely ask if Ivy can be Kwahu's heir instead, even if it might annoy Mechi a bit. He'll get over it.

I have patience for things like you that need broken into submission, do not worry. I'm also kind at heart so I'll watch and listen intently to see what's really going on with my toy. Maybe we take a break from torturing you and I let you fight back. God I love when they fight back. You can hit me and scratch me and take out all that frustration on me, don't hold back. I am big and strong and I will let you get it out like a toddler exhausting themselves from a tantrum. But when you finally hit that point, where you realize you're in over your head and you forgot your place, I will remind you who's in charge. Were you too aggressive with your hands? I'll tie them back so I don't have to worry about them. Kicked me too much? A spreader bar is an easy solution. Bit me enough to draw blood? Muzzles are perfect for rowdy creatures like you. I don't mind having to restrain you, it's all a good reminder of where you are on the food chain and makes it so much easier to crumble your consciousness. Just let go, just let me take care of you. Stop worrying about it this is too much or if you can take it. You can and you will because I said you will and you'll do anything for me, won't you dear? 💖

broke out my thesis for roommate tonight about how the way penalties are officiated in the nhl betrays a fundamental misinterpretation, on like a league-deep cultural level (that even spills over to much of the outside commentary/analysis), about what, exactly, the essential and original purpose of even having penalties in a sport is (hint: to consistently disincentivize rule-breaking behaviour via negative consequences and therefore enforce a fair standard of play within agreed rules). that's always a fun one. if i think too hard about how bad this league is at executing this utterly basic tenet of any organized competitive sport i eventually develop a three-layer existential-level-migraine.

As someone who is VERY fascinated with adaptation in film (who spent quuuuuuite some time back in college obsessing over it for assignments) and who adores the graphic novel, my biggest takeaway from Nimona is that it is an EXCELLENT adaptation. Especially considering how much that production went through! Like, all of the changes and things they expanded on made sense for the transition from book to movie. My second takeaway is that I love it <3 Please go watch it I beg of you 🙏

I also want to make a post appreciating the culling in Umbar. It's an extremely big, extremely ambitious city, and although it is kinda laggy, it functions really well. While playing normally I've had moments where I would whip my camera around fast enough to just barely see something load in, so I knew they were doing a lot of culling to make it work, but it wasn't until I saw the city from above that I realized just how extensive it is and how well the illusion works. I wish I had taken some screenshots to show just how much of the city is not loaded in at any given time to demonstrate it. But it's overall really effective use of the tool to build the illusion of a really big city.
