Hey! I need help on an art project, the goal was to pass on a part of the artistic process to others, so I decided to make a drawing tutorial meant to teach you to draw sans from undertale:

it's for anyone to try! whether you've never drawn him or already have a thousand times, whether you're an artist or not, getting a wide variety of drawings will help a lot anyways!

the only requirements is that you follow the instructions given, though you can draw him in any position you would like (this tutorial was made with the idea of teaching the shapes that make up his design and not just the lines for a certain pose) and that you reblog this post with the end product

and of course for anyone who ends ups trying it have fun with it!

auugh finally posting this here because i've seen a few people asking for tips on drawing in the rottmnt art style

this is how i first learnt to really nail down how to draw leo's headshape a few years back, but i find with some small tweaks and adjustments it also works well for the other turtles too :3

Well, those too! But how do people draw you? You aren't made of the same shapes as your brother, after all!

Hmmm, I guess you kind of have a point, but—

...Well! I digressed! Here's a little thing I put together containing a lot of my observations about how artists commonly draw Papyrus! There's a lot of variation, (a lot a lot!) but I have found some common trends! Like building blocks!

A Papyrus-shaped puzzle!

Not pictured here is the variation in the top part of the skull! (What I have depicted as a circle here.) Some people draw it more angularly, or even more like a square.

ARE YOU CALLING ME A SQUARE?

GOOD! BECAUSE I AM ONE! A SQUARE, THAT IS! NEVER BROKEN A RULE IN MY LIFE, NO SIREE!!!

...Hmmm. Anyway! This post is getting long, so there's more under the cut!

WHAT'S A CUT?

Well, this is a tumblr post, so that means that I want to put some of the longer content I make behind a read more line. That will collapse the rest of the text so that it doesn't make it too hard for people to scroll.

TUMBLER? SCROLLING? YOU SOUND LIKE SANS.

Sans uses tumblr?! Oh no...

...Well, onto the rest!

There's a lot more variation of Papyrus's mouth. People can get really creative! But most of the common depictions I see follow these building blocks.

YOU MEAN PUZZLE PIECES!

Yeah! Puzzle pieces.

THIS PUZZLE NEEDS MORE SPIKES! IT IS DISTINCTLY LACKING IN THE DEADLY SPIKE DEPARTMENT.

Wait, no— Papyrus put that down! This is not a spike kind of puzzle!

And finally, eye sockets! I've seen people do them in a lot of different ways, including like Sans's sockets but slightly longer. But again, this is how I see it done most frequently! And Papyrus has a lot of more extreme expressions, such as his eye boggle and his sparkling sockets that adds even more variation.

And that's it for now! There's still a lot I didn't go over, and I don't know if this could be counted as a tutorial? (Though if it helps, that's great!) I'm more just here to ramble about all the cool art I see of Papyrus!

I didn't get a chance to go over Papyrus's nose, nasal ridge, or the way people draw his neck. Not to mention the rest of his body! And his clothes! There's lots more common depictions (building blocks!) there.

PUZZLE PIECES!

Puzzle pieces. Like scarf vs. cape, gloves vs. mittens, round battle body or more square. (Or even a normal crop top!) Shorts vs. bowl, black tight material vs. bare bones...

That's not even getting into the AU Papyri! They also have common building blocks! (Puzzle pieces, I know.)

THEY AREN'T AS HANDSOME AS ME, ANYWAY! EVEN IF THEY ARE ALSO VERY GREAT.

Ahem. ...Debatable. (Fell gives you a run for your money in the handsomeness department—) ...Nah, you're right.

I AM, AND I KNOW IT!

Well. Needless to say, there's a lot to cover! And I've spent... huh. 7 hours on this so far! So I'll leave it off for now and maybe do a bit more if there's any interest.

Sure! :DD

I think the easier way to give some tips is by showing my own process.

(I won't explain here the basics of shading, but if you want I linked a tutorial down at the end of this.)

First off, the program I use is Krita (but any program is ok 👍✨) And here's the brushes I use:

I'd say use at least two brushes. A soft one and a harder one.

To show you I'll use this doodle I did of Murder!Sans (by @/ask-dusttale)

First, flat colors.

Then start shading on a new layer and put it in Multiply mode, then change the opacity at your liking. Don't use black for the shadows! Use a dark color. I usually use a purple or a brown.

Now with the same color, go on a new layer (Multiply mode), and add extra shadows where light has trouble reaching. This gives more depth to the drawing. (To make this process easier I use the Select Opaque option, by right clicking on the Base Shading layer, down in the menu, and then paint on the new layer)

Now fill the canvas with the light's color (or do like me and duplicate the Flat Colors layer, and recolor it if you want the light to be only on the subject). I'm using yellow since it makes a nice contrast with the purple. Put it in Pin Light mode and change the opacity at your liking.

Now I- I can't explain what "Bouncing Lights" and "Sub-Surface Scattering" are, so... go see on internet :''D Basically slap some red and blue over the shadows layer in Overlay mode and voilà

It'd be more noticeable with less light but trust me, it's good

Now let's talk about ambience. We can create many different scenes just by playing with the light and shadow layers! Change their colors, change the blending mode, play with 'em and see what you get:

Also I suggest studying how color schemes work (I'll link you a video down below). I uhh actually kinda suck at color schemes XD but having at least a basic understanding of them it's useful.

Im trying to get ideas for Ocs again like I used to. i used to make Amlost Every day a New Oc-

[Im still thinking about him being in the unamed universe(by / nova2cosmos ) but I don't have ideas for his backstory and all the other stuff yet]

Hes a bit based of shadow mewtwo. And his Name is a Pokemon but in german =)

And im still Not sure If he's good/neutral or a villain. [If you want you people can choose] also im probably gonna hate drawing him. OH AND he can only speak german but understands every other language. because I can decide everything for him >:)

Somthing i thought about while trying to sleep-: A constant sensitivity to cold(i used a translator for this-) He is constantly cold, That's why he wears such clothes so that its not getting too cold for him. His body is not able to get warm and will probably never feel warm. And if it's too cold, it's harmful to him and prefers to stay in “warm/comfortable” places but will go to cold places if he has too. He wont show that hes shivering, he will just act like its normal.
