Reposted from @_bethanywalker_ - If we have the belief we’re only valuable when we give, sometimes we don’t even allow a reciprocal exchange because we don’t want the vulnerability of not being needed. ✨ If someone doesn’t need you, they can only want you. If we feel fundamentally unwanted, if we’ve experienced developmental trauma & we don’t know where we stand with people we love, this feels incredibly stressful & our system detects this as threat. ✨ The effects of over-giving lead to burnout & resentment. We feel angry with the world that this is the only way we can be accepted. Sometimes we push people away because either they can sense the dishonesty or we line up to people who #mirror & validate that we are only useful when we give, & we wonder why they have gone when we have given so much. ✨ #Learning to #receive can be uncomfortable because it’s simultaneously challenging core beliefs that say “I’m only [loveable, acceptable, valuable] when... Recently, I was certified on DISC and it has drastically changed my awareness level. I have realized the first quality of a relational leader is the ability to understated how people feel, think and respond. The best way to do this is to get a DISC personality assessment. The reason being is that everyone likes to feel special and be inspired. People like to have direction, have their needs meet, be encouraged and they want to win.
