Just some things I think deserve a super accurate movie/show adaption in a beautiful 2D animation style:
The How to Train Your Dragon series
Gregor the Overlander
Artemis Fowl
The Adventure Zone
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (fr so much was left out of the 1939 film!)
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass
The actual Little Mermaid story (there are a ton of adaptations I haven't seen yet so maybe it exists somewhere but we all know Disney’s didn’t even come close)

i like the Hunger Games a lot but im always gonna be a little bitter it took off when her Underland Chronicles never did. those books were so good and so fucked up. snippets of spoilers for a 20 year old book series for middle schoolers ahead:
cockroaches the size of horses who talk and are actually super chill and great babysitters for human toddlers. these books are the only reason i dont have nightmares about cockroaches anymore
cannibalism happens a lot. at one point a rat the size of a bison says "man go ahead and eat your dead friend, we wont judge" to a spider, who then proceeds to eat her dead friend. everyone but the rat judges.
another rat, who is still relatively a baby, is found later eating his babysitter's liver in an attempt to hide the body.
dude, pandoras death was so fucked up. "wow an island! im starving im gonna have a snack. brb guys" flies a little bit over, is immediately devoured in seconds by bugs and her skeleton crashes into the jungle below
plague book! humans try to commit genocide and blame it on bugs
hey. hey eleven year old. kill this tiny baby screaming for his mother. he sounds just like your baby sister you think just died horribly. kill this baby with a sword. you didnt? you didnt kill a sobbing baby who watched his mother die? we're putting you on trial for treason and will execute you
baby rat gone insane, now 15' tall and leading an army, ripping the head off of his friend/gaslighter, immediately heartbreakingly asking where she went, and then finding the head and accusing a twelve year old boy of doing it
dude gregor is eleven and in the first book willingly leaps off a cliff to his death (despite it being his worst fear) in the hopes itll stop his two year old sister boots from being graphically torn apart and eaten, like he has seen happen to others
thalia's death. they dont just kill unnamed children (they do absolutely kill a lot of unnamed babies onscreen) they also kill beloved named children
"the fireflies had to gnaw ares' claw off of his corpse bc you wouldnt let go of your friends claw. its been almost three weeks and the viscera has dried and glued it to your grip. we cant get it off without breaking your finger. you gotta let go of your friends corpse, twelve year old boy"
twitchtip.
forcing the twelve year old into a prophesied battle where he will die, and making him dissociate so hard for months he blankly allows others to make him cause/be complicit in war crimes
HAHA HEY THE SAPIENT, INTELLIGENT MICE DYING BY THE HUNDREDS SUFFOCATING ON POISON GAS WHILE A TODDLER SINGS A NURSERY SONG ABOUT THE MICE DYING.
the six year old boy losing literally everyone hes ever known and cared for over and over again
just so much violent gore and death for middle schoolers, man. i love it.
hey that was objectively a good and well done ending. and i also loved it. but "hey gregor my husband was in the war. he had ptsd that will never go away just like you" hey hes twelve :( someone help him
prim's death in the hunger games has nothing on the shit collins pulled in the underland chronicles this is like a tiny chunk please read them

there's a word for trees kissing eachother. if you even care.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID : Two of the beech’s lower limbs have melted into one another, their bark conjoining into a single continuous skin, their vascular systems growing and uniting. Living wood, left long enough, behaves as a slow-moving fluid. Like glacial ice – like the halite I had seen in Boulby, like the calcite I had seen in the Mendips, like stained glass in medieval churches which, over centuries, gradually thickens out at the base of each pane – living wood flows, given time. [...] ‘Actually,’ says Merlin, ‘plant scientists have a technical term for this. We call it “snogging”, or to give it its full name, “tree snogging”.’ He smiles. ‘Well, not quite. The technical term is actually “inosculation”, from the Latin osculare, meaning “to kiss”. Inosculation means “to en-kiss”. It can happen across trees and between species too.’ end ID]
- Underland, Robert Macfarlane

Now that the Hunger Games are trending, I would love if people started reading Suzanne Collins other books series, The Overland Chronicles
Because they are so good, intense, and insane. And I feel like people don't give it as much love as they deserve. It has so much death and suffering for a 5 book arc with the protagonist not becoming older than 13, I believe.
Like oh let me just foretell the mass death of a race thur a childrens rhythm

so turns out Suzanne Collins did the whole symbolism-with-dandelions shit with The Hunger Games. i read those books and watched those movies. how did i forget about that.
and yet, it must've had a significant impact on me for it to stick with me for this long.
on the other hand, why didn't we all lose our collective minds about this? why did we stop talking about it? i feel like the state of being a hunger games fan is so common that we just don't talk about it anymore (with the exception of particularly devoted fans). we should! Collins did so much for us and we should be talking about that!
idk. i'm way too tired to properly talk about this, but. god, she did so much for us. and it feels like she's rarely talked about anymore. is it, like, because the ya dystopia genre got so utterly fucked-up and milked dry and we're embarrassed to admit that the book that started it all was actually really fucking good, despite being the beginning of the end for the genre?
are we afraid that she's gonna pull a jk rowling and turn out to be a shitty person? are we worried that we're going to find some fatal flaw in the story?
i don't get it. there's so much to talk about! and her other series, Gregor The Overlander aka The Underland Chronicles! nobody fucking talks about them, because nobody has heard of them! they're so fucking good! an incredible fantasy premise, many of the same themes as THG, and a well-developed romance! do you know how difficult it is to find a well-developed romance these days? and if you're not really one for romance, don't worry - it's a subplot that really only begins to matter in the last book!
come on, people, where is the love for Collins?

okay marethposting time i really like how an established character trait of his is that he is TERRIBLE at taking care of himself. like he refuses to get on a stretcher after gregor's escape attempt (he was bleeding profusely from his forehead at the time), instead trying to help andromeda. then later he offers to be the distraction for the spinner prison break before solovet shuts him down because she JUST stitched up his bleeding thigh wound. and THEN he tries to prepare food but solovet makes him prop up his injured leg. this guy has no self preservation and i love him for it

Please have this very messy drawing that resulted from me randomly remembering that they blindfolded all the younger kids to protect them from seeing carnage, but not 12 year old gregor

Recently reread the Underland Chronicles so I decided to dig through and find the old fanart I did when I first read the series like 11 years ago (wow i’m old) so please enjoy
Featuring my Mark Crilley manga phase, my terrible handwriting lol, ✨copic markers✨, random details I latched on to for some reason, FEELs wtf bro, and me somehow missing the fact that Luxa got a haircut in book one, and spoilers (fr go read these books if you haven't they are so good)
Luxa and Henry (and questionable armor choices??)
Tumblr media
The weave texture was meant to show that their clothes are made of spider silk (Idk what the random thigh pouch is supposed to be tho)
Hamnet and Hazard (and long arms so they can hold hands lol)
Tumblr media
Queen Luxa
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah 13 year old me really latched on to Luxa and tried to make her my personality lolll
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And for some reason the fish-shape crystal thing really stood out to me I guess
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the turtle trapdoor, I remembered that bit specifically during my reread bc I pictured this drawing I did of it. (I also vaguely remember writing (like by hand in my notebook) a mini missing scene fanfic about Luxa using the turtle trapdoor when she snuck out to join the quest in PoB XD)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Don't ask about that size difference lol)
Okay here come the scenes/spoilers (and FEELS)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(and apparently I thought that holding Ares' claw meant his foot instead of his wing)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There you have it lol
I also distinctly remember making like a montage of Lapblood moments (the dart frog jumping near her face, strangled in the vines, sinking in quicksand (all near death experiences apparently, rip she had it rough), and Gregor brushing her fur) bc those were the moments I remembered and kept picturing during my reread. But unfortunately I could not for the LIFE of me find it!
Anyway, looking at your old art is cringeyyyy but it's still kinda fun too. This really is not how I picture the characters or clothing and stuff anymore, I might do some redraws if I ever find the time/motivation (lol as if)
