GUILTY GEAR FRAGMENT
This was a pre-order bonus UMD video for Guilty Gear Judgment on the PSP. The 35 minute movie covers:
How GG Judgment was made.
Bonus episode of the web radio series (probably GG Radio, which was like BB Radio).
GGXXSlash Gatocon (ガトコン?) Gatocon may have been a GK/VG hobbyist convention)
GG Judgment promo video (likely a TV advert that had aired for it)
Promotional videos for confidential/secret titles, etc. (it says "etc," I'm not leaving out text) - This appears to have been a preview for Dust Strikers for the Nintendo DS.
NOTE: Video contains rapid flashing sequences.
🔥 ARCHIVE.ORG - .ISO of the UMD uploaded by ThatRandomMan96; original dump uncredited.
🔥 PROTON DRIVE - UMD converted to .MKV, courtesy of scatterflower.
🔥 YOUTUBE - YouTube upload by Jedello.
#guilty gear#guilty gear fragment#umd#psp#This .ISO was uploaded on Archive of September this year! Wild!!#Super grateful for scatterflower converting it to a more functional filetype lol#I could get the UMD to play through a PSP emulator but the audio/video sync was off and the overall performance was chuggy

A post that was originally meant to be an article in The Diamondback about UMD's reliance on Accuweather to give tornado warnings, despite the fact that the company's CEO is very reactionary.

N95 Masks Nearly Perfect at Blocking COVID, UMD Study Shows
Any common face mask provides significant protection against the virus that causes COVID-19, but N95 masks are most effective at slashing the amount emitted by infected people, according to a University of Maryland-led study released Wednesday.
So-called “duckbill” N95 masks scored highest in the study, which measured the exhaled breath of participants who were tested both masked and unmasked to measure comparative outputs of SARS-CoV-2. The inexpensive masks, which have two head straps and a horizontal seam, captured 98% of exhaled virus, according to the study published in eBioMedicine.
The researchers also found that—in what might come as a surprise to many—cloth masks outperformed the specific brand of KN95 mask that was tested. Surgical masks brought up the rear in performance out of the four types, but even they blocked 70% of the virus, the tests showed. (To reflect the general public's use of masks, study volunteers were not fit-tested for their masks or trained how to properly wear them.)
“The research shows that any mask is much better than no mask, and an N95 is significantly better than the other options. That’s the No. 1 message,” says the study’s senior author, Donald Milton, a professor of environmental health and a global expert on how viruses spread through the air.
The results also suggest that N95 masks, also known as respirators, should be the standard of care in nursing homes and health care settings when respiratory viral infections are prevalent and transmission risk is elevated, the researchers said.

So excited to announce the launch of my project [unhurried] {witness}!
A curation of digital memories, this piece was created under my mentor, Marisa Parham, during the 2022-2023 Scholar-Artist Residency Program of the African American History, Culture, and Digital Humanities (AADHum) Initiative at the University of Maryland (UMD).
[unhurried] {witness} was conceived during lockdown to explore Black play as a form of healing and collective witness of Black American culture, and was envisioned as MySpace meets Tumblr meets your Grandma’s house; ASMR for the soul; community memory exercise; interfacing intimacy; an archive of play; and, ultimately, an ephemeral object of cultural witness.
✨slow play as ritual/alchemization of emotions + analog experiences in a digital space✨
More inspirations included:
-web 1.0
-Covid play
-inside/outside
-adulthood/childhood
-play/work
To experience and explore the project, click here: https://unhurried-witness.aadhum.org.
Designed to be interactive, a series of questions on your memories of the digital experience can be found here and here. All answers will be recorded anonymously and displayed in the guestbook here.
Statement from the African American History, Culture, and Digital Humanities Initiative at University of Maryland on the project:
Welcome [unhurried] {witness}!
Seren Sensei’s #BlackDH project creates a “a digital exploration and a visual representation of analog games such as card games, dice, dominoes, paper crafts, and rhyming hand games/hand motions, as healing cultural process among Black Americans.”

autism taking over. filled with need to buy every single home media release of trigun 98 to fully document them instead of relying on trying to find what are usually broken old webpages on wayback machine and squinting at low quality images and running things through google translate hoping to scrounge one iota of information i'm looking for. this is like the least interesting aspect of the series and i really dont need more than 1 release even tho i own 2 different english version releases on dvd and an incomplete set of the original japanese laserdiscs (with no player to watch them on) & 1 original japanese vhs release. and then there's also the japanese rental video series (vhs&dvd) then the victor dvd release which is harder to find much info on in english. and then flyingdog did a new release of the dvds in a set when badlands came out in 2010. not sure they did any more releases after that bc language barrier and i dont keep up with current things any more. and still trying to find concrete info about pioneer english sub tapes bc they stop being mentioned on the archived webpages for pioneer/geneon once the company name changed--only the dub tapes show up. so thats 2 sets of pioneer english tapes. then the pioneer english dvds and then there was a box set release of those. then a rerelease of the dvds as geneon in the signature series. some weird 4 volumes of a combo release with gungrave & hellsing. a single umd volume with eps 1&2. and then the remix dvds which i own. then funimation i believe they've done 2 complete series dvd sets, i've got the og 2010 one but also that one seems to have been scrubbed from existence i cannot find any archived mentions of it on thier official site while i own the set it's hard to find direct source info it drives me nuts. and this is not even looking into the releases in other regions i know of the australian madman ones and the spain spanish set by selecta vision but i know theres def more. and this isnt even getting badlands in the picture. would love to get the limited edition first release dvd bluray whatever it was from japan. and other regions got more bonuses and nice features vs funimations bare minimum bonus feature disc (boooooo). also the first funi dvd that's what i got. would like a blu ray of badlands at least for the better picture quality bc that was theatrical film so actually animated in higher definition would love to see the detail of the world better than the dvd picture bc you all know im a weirdo who loves looking close at insignificant details. but yea there ig o rambling a wall of text about something no one cares about bu tme lol

so I hate to rain on the parade, I love a good disk as much as anyone, but this kind of thing has happened every few years for a long time now. For example, the Holographic Versatile Disk was proposed in 2003 with similarly high storage capacities:
Here's the source paper, unfortunately behind a paywall:
The type of technology they're using, with multiple layers in one disk, has been around for a a while also. It's used to a lesser extent in DVDs and Blu-Rays, with a current maximum of four layers for both formats.
Hitachi Maxell announced a Stacked Volumetric Optical Disk in 2006, with 100+ layers of storage space.
Now for the difficulties inherent to a product like this. First, recording to this disk makes use of a femtosecond pulse laser, not exactly a common component, or one that's easy to use.
The recording media is composed of something they call "Aggregation-induced emission dye-doped photoresist," an interesting way of doing things. Effectively, they have a solid layer of material that can be written to using a laser at any point in its 3-dimensional structure, and on an extremely small scale. However, as with so many optical technologies, it cannot be erased. This is write-once, read-many media, often abbreviated to WORM. That's one of the biggest difficulties with this kind of thing. Even the longest-running TV shows would have difficulty filling the quoted maximum storage of 1.6 petabytes. And then, of course, you run into the issue of mass-producing written disks. With A DVD or Blu-Ray, a "master" mold can be created and physically pressed into the recording medium, stamping out an entire completed disk all at once. With volumetric recording, no such master can be made. Each disk would have to be written to sequentially, dramatically increasing the time and space requirements of production. Even the paper itself only suggests applications in the datacenter space.
All this to say, it's unlikely this will be a consumer product any time soon. as much as I would love to keep 200tb in a dvd, it unfortunately seems to be restricted to research for now. There are limited applications of high capacity optical storage currently available in the enterprise world, however. For example, Sony makes a cartridge-based optical format that can store up to 5.5tb per cart:
But who knows? Maybe one day we'll all get back to carrying around those big zipper pouches filled with petabytes of media. All phones will have a PSP-style UMD player for tiny disks with mere terabytes of space. A future to strive for.
we're so back
#long post#optical media#rant#it has been too long since I did a research paper#left college 2 years ago and it turns out nobody will assign me essays in my IT job#I should just do one for fun#with a bit more effort than the several hours this took#and I could be wrong! I would love to see optical media come back#But to be honest I think magnetic tape is the play if something like this ever resurfaces#Some sort of stripped-down LTO could still hold well into the terabytes#basically a high density digital VHS#anyways. sorry for the tangent

Libraries, records, and Kore: Archives on Mount Olympus [Part 3]
Continued from part 2
Cross is right to highlight this episode for its strong archivy themes. The 1980s glory, as Cross describes it, as all the Fates wear 80s-style clothing, is amazing, along with the fact that there are no dusty records, just three "radical looking women preserving memories and seeing the future." They are like real archivists that way, for sure! And the fact that the Records Department is a bit like a Blockbuster Video is on point too! I love how they are weaving memories like magnetic tape, then storing them in a format like VHS. Being the webcomic it is, it's no surprise that they are willing to forego existing rules so they can get some wine. Who wouldn't?
Reprinted from my Wading Through the Cultural Stacks WordPress blog. Originally published on Nov. 28, 2020.
While the fandom page for Lachesis calls her a "records librarian," while the pages for Clotho and Atropos say nothing on the subject, I would say she is an archivist, along with her sisters, as she is "responsible for records of enduring value" (i.e. the memories), but is also a custodian of the records themselves, as she is "responsible for the care of archival and other cultural materials." The fact that the memories are made of magnetic tape reminds me of the memory tapes in Infinity Train, which are "copies of the memories of each passenger on the Infinity Train."
The episodes mentioned so far are not the only ones that have archivy themes. In fact, some other episodes mention records of short-term value. This includes Hera's book in episode 82 ("Say My Name") which shows potential suitors, including a page on Kore herself, and a planner put together by Kore noting her past periods in the next episode ("Proserpina is Late"). In that same episode, Kore invites people to a study group at the school library.
Sadly, no one comes to her study group as shown in the following episode, episode 84 ("Pancakes"). I thought I mention that specifically because I organized study groups myself in Spring 2019, my next to last semester to get my MLIS at UMD, and there were times when only one or two people showed up, even though the group had six members. Usually, in those cases, I would just say that a meeting wasn't necessary, and we would just end it then and there. So, I get how depressing and disconcerting it can be to organize a meeting and for very few people (or none) to show up. I thought I'd add that personal anecdote here before continuing.

In a fascinating turn of events, we've (lore server) recently discovered that the GUILTY GEAR XX SLASH Absolute GUILTY GEAR chronicle DVD (PS2 XX Slash preorder bonus) and Guilty Gear Fragment (Judgment preorder bonus UMD movie) have both been ripped and are somehow in a playable state. Fragment needs converted into something else though as the UMD can only be played with a very specific emulator at the moment.
We're also trying to move the GG wiki off Fandom but that's hit some snags. More on that in the future (hopefully...)
I've also been working on a translation of the Guilty Gear article from Character Designer Issue 1. 2003 (thanks Kat). It's the source of the early male Baiken concept art. Lots of text, slow going.
No work's been done on LtA recently—still about 700 words left in C1P2.
Found some rarer Daisuke GG works in the archives that I'm going to clean and post over the next few days. I already posted one of them today.
Outrage is almost fully smoothed out and ready for primer and then paint. I might actually get it done before the 1 year anniversary of me starting this project gets here (sometime in early January, need to look it up).
Still playing Final Fantasy IV. Just completed the cave with the dark crystal in it. This honestly for real might end up being my favorite FF game.
I think that's everything major that's been going on recently. Busy and tired. So, so, tired...
#textpost#Hope the dog doesn't wake me up literally every two hours tonight PLEASE Murphy let me sleep#I tried taking a nap today and then Thunderdome decided to bang on my door#My spirit is never going to find peace

#RudyTuesday On April 3, 1949, NBC Television Playhouse (sponsored by Philco) presented "And Never Been Kissed," a story about teenagers in the 1920s adapted from a novel published earlier that year. The production, seen here in rehearsal, was written by Samuel Taylor and directed by Fred Coe.
Coe's biography, The Man in the Shadows: Fred Coe and the Golden Age of Television by Jon Krampner, was published by Rutgers University Press in 1997. The UCLA Film and Television Archive has kinescopes of many Coe productions and has made some digital transfers. The Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research also has kinescopes.

National History Day, weebly, and the preservation of digital records
Homepage of nhd.weebly.com as of September 11, 2019
In my newsletter back on August 14th, I noted that National History Day had sent me an email asking for "donations since their relationship with Weebly," which had provided their website creation platform, after a ten year run, in hopes that such donations could pay a developer so they could create their own "website creation platform...by November 1, 2019," costing $150,000 in total. I then realized that I still had one website on the platform. In the past, I had already transferred my website about the space race (which I created for the 2010 National History contest) to a separate weebly account. But, I hadn't done that for my one on the war on drugs (which I created for the 2011 contest). I saved most of the pages using the wayback machine of the Internet Archive in almost desperation, but as a second attempt, I tried to log in to my old account.
To my surprise, the log-in worked and I was able to edit the site in all its functions. But, I wondered if this site could be sustained. Will it last on weebly forever? Will I always be able to edit it? So, I contacted the weebly people for assistance, to see what they would say.
This post was originally written in September 2019, but was slightly changed and fixed up in December 2022. It will be published on my History Hermann WordPress blog on Feb. 27, 2023.
What the login page looked like when I logged in on September 11, 2019
I sent them a short message on September 11 about my issue:
Right after, I received a a confirmation that they are "working on responding to you as soon as possible." As I awaited their response, I saved the website's pages on the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, specifically the
the homepage
history of war on drugs overview page
setting the stage page
timeline page
diplomacy page
war on pot page
pop culture perception page
debate overview page
reform or resist page
is it a conspiracy page
viewpoints page
conclusion overview page
who benefits page
who suffers page
consequences page
alternatives page
interviewees page
bib/process overview page
annotated bibliography page
process paper page
Then, on September 16th, I received an email from Dakota of Weebly Policy Support, telling me that "unfortunately there is no way to convert NHD at this time or to connect a domain name in the current NHD account. Please go to the following link for further information about the NHD program and sites," providing a link to a page about this from their help site.
Basically, their "solution" was for you to send an email archive of your website to yourself, which I had already done, with an email of my website titled "The export of your site is ready to be downloaded" with a zip file attached. But what happened after that? They didn't answer that question. For me, that would have involved creating a whole new weebly website with the same content, something which I didn't want to do. So, I did the next best thing: I used webrecorder, which I had learned about in an appraisal class of my spring semester at UMD as part of my graduate school studies for a Master of Library and Information Science, with a concentration in Archives and Digital Curation. I created a public collection of the website, with the bottom picture showing what it looks like when you visit it online, presently:
I created a collection, which I arranged into lists, although its obviously not the same as viewing the original website itself, as some videos didn't even show up. For instance, while internal videos work just fine, the video of Hemp for Victory, shown below, on the Timeline page, NEVER shows up! To be clear, I'm not saying I endorse these videos, but rather I am adding them as examples of content that Webrecorder is not capturing, showing one of its flaws.
youtube
Similarly, a video on "Is It a Conspiracy?" page, where a Former LAPD detective argues that the CIA has dealt drugs throughout U.S. didn't appear in the Webrecorder archive either as it never showed up on the page when I went to archive it. In another instance, the video of a Harvard Economist saying that all drugs should be legalized, on my Viewpoints page, was never part of the Webrecorder archive either:
Strangely, the video on the "who benefits" page showed up in Webrecorder, despite these others not showing up. Of course, there is also the issue of dead video links across the website, which neither webrecorder nor internet archive can solve, as it means those videos were taken down from YouTube.
That led to my last attempt to archive this content: moving it to a new home, my YouTube channel, apart from the one video I had uploaded there, which used to be on my NHD website at one time. So, I aimed to upload them, choosing the most historical videos of the lot, cropping others for length, to make them better.

And the preservation continues onward. I look forward to your comments and would love suggestions on how I can preserve this website going forward.

I chugged a RedBull Amber Edition (Strawberyy Apricot) and currently on my favorite: SEA BLUE. I like when i have time to write out diary entries, i feel like more people talk to me. I feel more human :3.
I will be posting my blog and content about Ps2 Horror game series? blog(s) with all sorts of content. All short & simple for archive reasons till i decide how to do video game essay videos on YouTube. Man i hate demotivation, i feel like my youtube is going no where and its not like i play boring games. They’re all pretty top notch ‘niche’ unknown games. It takes double the time editing the content for me than recording or pressing ‘start stream’ and its pretty upsetting… Many beans tell me to not give ups and i really can’t, i still have +3 more years of this before i can offically call it off. If i end up with a smol community that is fine, i will do 5 year plan making it 4 years left. I’m a simple bean and i did research on my voice even to see whats the problem with people saying my voice makes them fall asleep. Some people are cewl crackheads and like shoot funni joke dopeamine into ya skull, but my voice is basically a milf YAY. My voice gives off oxytocin which is basically what new borns crave from their mother, WONDERFUL. Google is like “yeah u are the cuddle chemical”. WHY I WISH FOR VIOLENCE
Orginal vid
Basically how it feels, why can i not be villian?! Well i must lay down and rest before editing a long fallout archive stream bc i accdentally said free the nipple dressing a settler and her clothes were not compatable (god end me pls) but i shal continue to hunt my psp stuff, the money for it is coming soon and im getting a job so. I must ask fast!!! THERE WILL BE NO WHITE PSPS LEFTTT
